Chong (重)
What it means
Chong (heavy) is old yang. When casting the hexagram, three coins all showing backs (tails) is chong, recorded as "○", with the number 9. A heavy line is a yang line in motion; movement brings change: heavy changes to chai (broken), i.e., old yang transforms into young yin, like something accomplished then failing, reaching an extreme and then declining. When only one line moves, the heavy line mainly indicates the past; the matter divined often corresponds to what has already happened. The moving line is the key in the hexagram; when interpreting, one must examine its generation/overcoming of the useful spirit and the auspiciousness/inauspiciousness of the resulting changed line.
