According to the initial table of contents, this section should be followed by three chapters: "Determining the Appearance of the Twelve Branches," "Appearance of the Ten Heavenly Stems," and "Divination of Human Appearance." However, the original text continues directly with a colophon, and these three chapters are only listed without content, indicating they are missing from the original. They are recorded as they appear without supplementation.
The above text of "One Character诀" is also known as "Jade Ring," written by Xu Cibin from Luxi. The preface was written by Wang Shun, who styled himself "Cuiwei Qiaoyan." Originally, it was a work from the Jin dynasty. I once obtained a book titled "Chen状元 Jade Ring" passed down by Luo Ziman, which was attributed to Guan Lu of the Three Kingdoms era (whose name was Gongming). Its content is roughly similar to this one, though the order of chapters differs. The book also included seven-character verse rhymes and sections on predicting rain and wind, but unfortunately, these were lost during a war when the book was stored in a pavilion, and it has been a long time since then.
Luo Zi man later went to Jiangxi, and has not been seen since. Now, copying down this book, my heart is stirred, and I cannot help but feel a sense of regret. Xu Cibin said in the book that all the examples in it were passed down by the Master of Fencheng, but he did not know what relationship Xu Cibin had with this Master of Fencheng, nor who that Master was. Those who know the truth would surely be willing to enlighten us. However, to be honest, all good words and profound truths must have their origins; the important thing is to understand the principles thoroughly, and there is no need to insist on finding out who exactly he was.
