詩曰：夜有紛紛夢，神魂預吉凶。莊周虛化蝶，呂望兆飛熊。丁固生松貴，江海得筆聰。黃粱巫峽事，非此莫能窮。

The poem at the beginning says: People have various confused dreams at night, which are actually the spirit and soul foretelling good or bad fortune in advance. Zhuang Zhou's dream of himself turning into a butterfly is a typical example of a illusory dream; Qi Taigong, the famous statesman Li Wan, was dreamed by King Wen as a "flying bear," which was a sign of obtaining a virtuous person. During the Three Kingdoms period, Ding Gu, a man from Wu, dreamed that a pine tree grew on his abdomen, and later he indeed rose to the position of the Three Grand Ministers; in the Southern Dynasties, Jiang Yan dreamed that he received a pen of five colors, and from then on his literary talent greatly improved. As for Lu Sheng's dream of a single grain of rice cooked in a pot and the dream of the clouds and rain in Wushan by the King of Chu, the principles of human dreams cannot be fully explained without referring to these examples. This poem is placed at the beginning of the book to indicate that dreams are not entirely without basis, and that ancient dream interpretation has its own established principles.

天門開，貴人薦引。天光灼身，疾病除。天晴雨散，百憂去。天明，婦有生貴子。天門未至，有兵荒。仰面向天，大富貴。乘龍上天，主大貴。上天求妻，兒女貴。上天取物，位王侯。飛上天，富貴大吉。癸天上屋，得高官。天裂有分，主國憂。天皇明主，公卿至。天欲曉，益壽命，吉。渡天河，主有所吉。天地合，所求皆得。

Dreaming of the heavenly gate opening indicates that there will be a nobleman who recommends and introduces you. Dreaming of heavenly light shining on oneself indicates the removal of illness. Dreaming of the sky clearing and rain clouds dispersing indicates the departure of all worries. Dreaming of bright skies indicates that one's wife will give birth to a noble child. Dreaming of the heavenly gate about to open but finally not opening indicates military disaster and chaos. Dreaming of looking up to the sky indicates great wealth and honor. Dreaming of riding a dragon to ascend to heaven indicates great fortune. Dreaming of seeking a wife or husband from heaven indicates that one's children will be prominent. Dreaming of heaven taking something indicates attaining the rank of king or marquis. Dreaming of flying into the sky indicates wealth and great good fortune. Dreaming of climbing the house of the 'Gui' heaven indicates obtaining a high official position ('Gui' is the position of the north, and this entry may have an error in the original text). Dreaming of the sky splitting open with a crack indicates national worries and troubles. Dreaming of the heavenly emperor or a wise ruler indicates the arrival of ministers and noblemen. Dreaming of the heavenly general breaking dawn indicates an increase in lifespan and good fortune. Dreaming of crossing the Milky Way indicates that whatever one goes to will be smooth and successful. Dreaming of heaven and earth joining together indicates that whatever one wishes for will come true. All these interpretations are based on heavenly phenomena: opening of the sky, bright skies, and clear skies are signs of smooth yang energy, thus indicating success and smoothness; splitting of the sky and the heavenly gate not opening are signs of abnormal heavenly order, thus indicating worries and troubles.

天公使，有大吉祥。日月初出，家道昌。日月照身，得重位。日月落，憂沒父母。日月昏暗，孕婦吉。日月欲出，有官職。日月合會，妻有子。日月銜山，奴欺主。負抱日月，貴王侯。吞日月，當生貴子。禮拜日月，大吉昌。日光入屋，官位至。日初出無雲，大吉。日出有光，有好事。雲開日出，凶事散。日入懷，貴子；月，女。

Dreaming of the messenger of Heaven indicates great auspiciousness. Dreaming of the sun and moon just rising indicates the family will prosper. Dreaming of the sun and moon shining on one's body indicates receiving an important official position. Dreaming of the sun and moon falling indicates worry about the death of parents. Dreaming of the sun and moon being dim indicates good fortune for a pregnant woman. Dreaming of the sun and moon about to rise indicates an official position will arrive. Dreaming of the sun and moon meeting indicates the wife will become pregnant and give birth. 拜星月燒香，大吉。雲忽遮日，有陰私。星入懷，主生貴子。星落，有病及官事。星列行，主添奴婢。持執星宿，大富貴。流星不落，主移居。巡天摩星，位公卿。雲起四方，交易吉。五色云，主大吉昌。雲赤白吉，青黑凶。見浮雲，作事不成。雲霧遮，事大吉利。黑雲壓地，時氣病。霜雪降，主事不成。雪下及時，大吉利。

Dreaming of numerous stars arranged in rows indicates the acquisition of servants. Dreaming of holding star mansions indicates great wealth and honor. Dreaming of a falling star suspended in the sky without falling indicates a move to a new residence. Dreaming of touring the heavens and touching the stars indicates attaining a high official position. Dreaming of clouds rising from all four directions indicates favorable trade. Dreaming of colorful auspicious clouds indicates great auspiciousness and prosperity. Dreaming of clouds of red and white color is auspicious, while clouds of blue and black are ominous. Dreaming of floating clouds in the sky indicates that affairs will not succeed. Dreaming of clouds and fog blocking the view indicates that matters will be greatly favorable. Dreaming of black clouds pressing down on the ground indicates contracting a seasonal illness. Dreaming of snow falling at the right time indicates great auspiciousness. Stars symbolize nobility, so stars entering the arms or being held are auspicious; cloud colors are considered auspicious if they are colorful, red, or white, and ominous if they are blue or black, consistent with the ancient method of observing the sky's aura.

雪落身上，萬事成。雪不沾身，主孝服。雪落家庭，主喪事。陰雨晦時，主囚事。行路逢雨，有酒食。雷霆作聲，官位至。雷聲恐怕，私居吉。雷從地震，主志遂。身被霹靂，主富貴。電光照身，有吉慶。赤虹見吉，黑虹凶。霞滿天，百事歡悅。狂風大雨，人死亡。風吹人衣，主疾病。忽大風，國有號令。風如吼，主遠信至。

Dreaming of snow falling on one's body signifies that all things will be successful. Dreaming of snow falling but not touching one's body signifies that there will be matters concerning mourning attire. Dreaming of snow covering the courtyard signifies that there will be a death in the family. Dreaming of dark and gloomy rain signifies that there will be imprisonment or detention. Dreaming of encountering rain while traveling signifies that there will be invitations for wine and food. Dreaming of thunder roaring signifies that an official position will come. Dreaming of hearing thunder and feeling fear signifies that it is auspicious to remain at home and be cautious. Dreaming of thunder arising from the ground signifies that one's aspirations will be realized. Dreaming of being struck by lightning signifies wealth and prosperity. Dreaming of being illuminated by lightning signifies good fortune. Dreaming of a red rainbow signifies good fortune, while a black rainbow signifies misfortune. Dreaming of colorful clouds in the sky signifies joy in all affairs. Dreaming of fierce winds and heavy rain signifies that someone will die. Dreaming of wind moving a person's clothes signifies illness. Dreaming of a sudden strong wind signifies that the state will issue decrees. Dreaming of wind roaring like a shout signifies that there will be letters from afar. Thunder and lightning are signs of the heavens' vigorous power, so they often indicate official positions and wealth; however, if the winds and rains are excessive, they signify a disturbance in the atmosphere, leading to illness and death.

地動，主遷官位，吉。地裂，主疾病，大凶。修平田地，大吉昌。地高下不平，主病。臥於石上，主大吉。地中黑氣上，主凶。運石入家，主富貴。石上得利祿，大吉。盤石安穩，無憂疑。登巖抱石，官職遷。手弄小石，生貴子。身人土中，百事吉。自身取土，被恥辱。

Dreaming of the earth trembling indicates a promotion in official position and is auspicious. Dreaming of the land cracking indicates illness and is very inauspicious. Dreaming of leveling and cultivating fields indicates great good fortune and prosperity. Dreaming of uneven ground indicates illness. Dreaming of lying on a stone indicates great good fortune. Dreaming of black mist rising from the ground indicates misfortune. Dreaming of moving stones into the house indicates wealth and honor. Dreaming of obtaining benefits and honors on a stone indicates great good fortune. Dreaming of a solid rock that remains stable indicates no worries or troubles. Dreaming of climbing a rock or embracing a stone indicates promotion in official position. Dreaming of playing with small stones in the hand indicates the birth of a son of high status. Dreaming of one's body entering the earth indicates that all affairs will be auspicious (the character 「人」 should be 「入」, as the original text has a similar character that was mistakenly written). Dreaming of oneself digging up soil indicates being humiliated by others. Earth and stone belong to the earth; stability and thickness are auspicious, while cracking and unevenness are inauspicious. This is determined by the normal and abnormal conditions of the earth.

升山落地，主失位。居住高山，有喜事。山行得財，有福祿。抱物上山，孕貴子。山中農稼，衣食豐。枯木再發，子孫興。堂上地陷，主安憂。園林茂盛，大吉利。樹木枯死，宅不安。林中坐臥，病欲痊。樹木凋零，主人凶。林中樹生，添貴子。種樹木者，大吉昌。

Dreaming of climbing a mountain and then falling to the ground indicates losing one's position. Dreaming of living on a high mountain indicates good fortune. Dreaming of walking in the mountains and finding wealth indicates prosperity and official favor. Dreaming of carrying something up the mountain indicates the birth of a noble son. Dreaming of farming crops in the mountains indicates sufficient food and clothing. Dreaming of withered trees regrowing new shoots indicates that the children will flourish. Dreaming of the floor of the hall collapsing indicates worries and troubles (the character 「安」 at the bottom is possibly a mistake for 「家」). Dreaming of a garden with flourishing grass and trees is very auspicious. Dreaming of trees dying indicates that the residence is unstable. Dreaming of resting in the woods indicates that illness will soon be cured. Dreaming of trees shedding leaves indicates misfortune. Dreaming of new trees growing in the woods indicates the birth of a noble son. Dreaming of planting trees by hand indicates great good fortune and prosperity. The growth and flourishing of grass and trees is considered auspicious, while withering and dying is considered inauspicious, based on the principle of the flourishing or declining of life qi.

登大樹，名利顯揚。上樹忽折，有死傷。與人分花，主分散。枯木開花，興子孫。大樹落葉，屋中吉。立樹下，貴人庇陰。樹生堂上，父母憂。大木忽折，主凶惡。擔水來家，得財喜。砍伐大樹，多得財。草木茂盛，家道興。門中生果樹，有子。松生屋上，位三公。

Dreaming of sharing flowers with others signifies separation and dispersion of affairs. Dreaming of a withered tree blooming again indicates children's prosperity. Dreaming of a mulberry tree growing over a well indicates some misfortune (「sang」sounds like 「sang」, meaning loss, thus indicating worry). Dreaming of fruit trees bearing abundant fruit indicates peace and security for children. Dreaming of cutting bamboo shoots and bringing them home indicates a woman's pregnancy and childbirth. Dreaming of seeing bamboo shoots indicates the addition of children. Dreaming of sweeping and removing dung indicates the decline of family fortune. Dreaming of dung piled up in heaps indicates the gathering of wealth. Pine, cypress, orchid, and bamboo are all symbols of enduring prosperity, thus indicating official rank and children. Bamboo shoots symbolize new growth and continuity, thus indicating the addition of sons. Dung, in ancient divination, is contrary to wealth, so removing it signifies the dispersal of wealth.

自身白衣，人所謀。梳頭洗面，百憂去。身拜尊長，大吉昌。身上汗出，主凶惡。身病蟲出，得重職。身上蟲行，病患安。繩索繫身，長命吉。枷索臨身，病欲來。身或肥瘦，皆為凶。面對官者，主大吉。露體無衣，吉大利。婦人披頭，有私情。頭白，主長命大吉。頭生兩角，有爭競。頭禿髮落，皆凶事。

Dreaming of your hair turning white indicates longevity and great good fortune. Dreaming of having two horns growing on your head indicates disputes and competition. Dreaming of baldness and hair falling out indicates bad events. The body and hair are the foundation of a person; being neat and intact brings good fortune, while falling out or being dirty brings bad fortune; being tied with a rope takes the meaning of 'long', hence indicating a long life.

面生瘡黑，主子凶。頭須自落，憂子孫。頭須再生，主長命。沐浴遷官，疾病除。洗手洗足，舊患除。照鏡明吉，暗者凶。破鏡照人，主分散。手足濃血出，大吉。屎尿汙人，大吉亨。露頭披髮，陰人謀。披頭蓋面，官訟至。剪剃頭髮，家內凶。眉與發齊，祿位至。齒自落者，父母凶。齒落更生，子孫興。

Dreaming of excrement and urine soiling the body indicates great good fortune and smoothness. Dreaming of not wearing a headscarf and having hair loose indicates being schemed against by a scheming minor person. Dreaming of covering the face with hair indicates legal disputes coming. Dreaming of cutting or shaving hair indicates misfortune within the family. Dreaming of eyebrows and hair growing at the same rate indicates promotion in official position. Dreaming of teeth falling out on their own indicates misfortune for parents. Dreaming of teeth falling out and then growing back indicates prosperity of children. In divination, teeth and hair are associated with parents and children: falling out indicates loss to relatives, regrowth indicates continuation of descendants; dirty things actually indicate good fortune in wealth, following the ancient divination principle of 'dirty things gather wealth'.

戴冠登車，官欲遷。自戴帽頭巾帽，吉。簪冠登臺，職位遷。貴人與之衣冠，吉。新換衣冠，祿位至。燒燬官帽，欲更官。失去官帽，主退職。拾得冠帶，祿位至。與人公服，主得職。人與公服，加官職。女著冠帶，主生子。洗笏染服，新官來。執笏見貴人，大吉。

Dreaming of inserting a hairpin and wearing a crown on a platform indicates a promotion in position. Dreaming of a nobleman giving you clothes and headgear is auspicious. Dreaming of wearing new clothes and headgear indicates the arrival of official rank. Dreaming of the official hat being burned indicates a change in official position. Dreaming of losing the official hat indicates dismissal from office. Dreaming of picking up a cap and sash indicates the arrival of official rank. Dreaming of giving away official robes indicates that you will obtain an official position. Dreaming of someone giving you official robes indicates promotion. Dreaming of a woman tying on a cap and sash indicates the birth of a child. Dreaming of washing the handboard and dyeing official robes indicates the arrival of a new official. Dreaming of holding a笏 board to meet a nobleman is very auspicious. Crowns, caps, sashes, and official robes are symbols of official rank. Gaining or receiving them indicates promotion, while losing or damaging them indicates demotion. The symbolism is very direct.

笏破憂凶，主不祥。與人笏授，主官遷。腰帶者，主官至，吉。文書用印，有名聲。帶印，主妻生貴子。著新袍，主添妻妾。著錦繡衣，子孫榮。洗染衣服，皆大吉。披蓑衣，主大恩至。被油汙衣，大恩澤。衣服忽破，妻外心。新衣攢來，百事凶。與人衣服，主患至。

Dreaming of tying a sash around one's waist indicates the arrival of official position, which is favorable. Dreaming of stamping on documents indicates gaining reputation. Dreaming of wearing an official seal indicates that one's wife will give birth to a noble son. Dreaming of wearing new robes indicates acquiring a concubine. Dreaming of wearing embroidered clothes indicates that one's children will achieve honor and success. Dreaming of washing or dyeing clothes indicates great good fortune. Dreaming of wearing a raincoat indicates a great favor coming. Dreaming of clothes stained with oil indicates receiving great favor. Dreaming of clothes suddenly tearing indicates that one's wife has an affection for someone else. Dreaming of accumulating new clothes one by one indicates misfortune in all affairs. Dreaming of giving clothes to someone else indicates that disaster is coming. Clothes cover the body and symbolize favor and grace: being stained or wearing a raincoat indicates receiving favor, while tearing or giving away clothes indicates separation and trouble.

裁衣著孝衣，皆吉。衣帶自解，百事吉。著黃衣皂衣，皆吉。著白衣，主有人請。著青衣，神有助力。著藍繡衣，妻大利。從人著紫，主情弊。眾人著青，家人散。眾人著白，主官事。眾人著紅，大吉利。妻著夫衣，生貴子。女人著衫，平無事。

Dreaming of making or cutting clothes or wearing mourning clothes indicates good fortune. Dreaming of your clothes loosening by themselves signifies that all matters will be favorable. Dreaming of wearing yellow or black clothes indicates good fortune. Dreaming of wearing white clothes indicates that someone will invite you. Dreaming of wearing blue clothes indicates that you will receive help from the divine. Dreaming of attendants wearing purple clothes indicates that there will be problems in matters of affection. Dreaming of everyone wearing blue clothes indicates that family members will be separated. Dreaming of everyone wearing white clothes indicates that there will be legal disputes. Dreaming of everyone wearing red clothes indicates great good fortune. Dreaming of your wife wearing your clothes indicates that you will have a noble son. Dreaming of a woman wearing a robe indicates peace and safety. The interpretation of clothing colors is based on the five colors: yellow and black are the proper colors and indicate good fortune, while blue and white are mourning colors. If many people wear the same color, it indicates changes in the family or state. Red is a festive color and thus signifies great good fortune.

與人共衣，妾私情。失卻衣服，妻難產。好被自蓋，得富貴。人著己履，妻有私。得靴鞋，主奴婢吉。的履，主奴婢逃走。脫靴束帶，主有凶。鞋破，子孫妻妾病。著麻鞋，百事和合。新授官爵，主貴子。乞得鞋履，人助力。木履脫時，已出危。

Dreaming of being covered with a good quilt indicates gaining wealth and status. Dreaming of someone wearing your shoes indicates that the wife has an affair. Dreaming of receiving boots indicates that matters concerning servants will be favorable. Dreaming of shoes falling off indicates that servants will run away (the character 「的」 is a mistake for 「脱」, due to similarity in form). Dreaming of taking off boots and tightening the waistband indicates an omen of misfortune. Dreaming of broken shoes indicates that children and the wife will be ill. Dreaming of wearing straw shoes indicates that all affairs will be harmonious. Dreaming of being awarded an official title indicates the birth of a noble son. Dreaming of begging for shoes indicates that someone will help and exert effort. Dreaming of wooden sandals falling off indicates that one has already escaped danger. Shoes and sandals are located below, so they often relate to matters concerning servants and the inner household; obtaining them brings peace, while breaking or losing them brings dispersion.

君主隊杖，有異吉。旌旗受寵，大吉利。抱旌節，主貴人扶。旌旗引入山，主凶。造旌蓋，主大吉利。羽益蓋身，主富貴。旌旗迎接，大富貴。旗幡競出，主疾病。手持旌節，有恩償。自蓋覆身，大吉利。見做新旗，大吉利。與人分金，主分散。拔刀出行，大吉利。得人刀，主行人至。

Dreaming of the ceremonial procession of a sovereign indicates great good fortune. Dreaming of receiving favor due to banners and flags indicates great good fortune. Dreaming of embracing a banner and staff indicates receiving assistance from a nobleman. Dreaming of banners leading oneself into the mountains indicates misfortune. Dreaming of making banners and canopies indicates great good fortune. Dreaming of a feathered canopy covering oneself indicates wealth and honor. Dreaming of someone carrying banners to greet one indicates great wealth and honor. Dreaming of banners and flags competing to emerge indicates illness. Dreaming of holding a banner and staff indicates receiving rewards and recognition. Dreaming of using an umbrella or canopy to cover oneself indicates great good fortune. Dreaming of seeing someone making new banners indicates great good fortune. Dreaming of dividing gold with others indicates separation and parting. Dreaming of drawing a knife and going out indicates great good fortune. Dreaming of receiving someone else's knife indicates that someone who has left will return. Banners and canopies are all ceremonial items of the court; seeing them or holding them indicates nobility. However, if they lead one into the mountains or compete to emerge, this indicates disorder and loss of position, hence indicating misfortune and illness.

人與三刀，作刺史。與人相砍，大吉慶。被刀出血，得酒食。持刀刺人，主失利。刀斧自傷，大吉利。得人刀斧，祿位至。刀落水中，妻妾亡。失落刀劍，主破財。帶刀劍行，有財利。磨刀劍鋒快，大古。與人刀劍，皆主凶。劍在床頭，大吉利。女人帶刀，大吉慶。

Dreaming of someone giving three knives signifies being appointed as a governor. A Jin dynasty person named Wang Jun dreamed of three knives hanging from the eaves of his house, and then another knife was added.
