Mi Ben Zhu Ge Shen Shu (秘本諸葛神數) · Volume 1

凡占卦者。必先報字。報字不拘何字。必先以三字為度。不可報四字。亦不可報二字。

Anyone seeking a divination must first "report a character" — the person seeking the divination will spontaneously say out a Chinese character. The characters reported can be any, with no restrictions, but the number must strictly be three: they cannot report four characters or two. These three characters will then serve as the hundreds, tens, and units place respectively to generate a number. Adding or subtracting any character will prevent the formation of the correct number, so this is the fundamental rule of the entire divination method.

將所報之字。先寫於紙上。數其筆畫。以便查字。其法有三。 一）第一字作百數。第二字作十數。第三字作個數。例如報佑咱統三字。佑字筆畫作百數。咱字筆畫作十數。統字筆畫作個數。餘仿此舉例如下。

Write the three characters reported by the person seeking divination on a piece of paper, and count the strokes of each character one by one, so that the numbers can be used to look up the fortune-telling sign. There are three rules for counting. The first rule is about the order of positions: the stroke count of the first character serves as the hundreds place, the stroke count of the second character serves as the tens place, and the stroke count of the third character serves as the ones place. For example, if the three characters reported are 「佑、咱、统」, the stroke count of 「佑」 is placed in the hundreds position, the stroke count of 「咱」 is placed in the tens position, and the stroke count of 「统」 is placed in the ones position. All other examples follow this order, as demonstrated below.

林 - 百位　山 - 十位　沖 - 個位 二）凡字筆畫。在九筆以內者照算。在十筆以外者。減十筆算。（二十筆同）若恰在十筆或二十筆。俱照零筆計算。例如佑咱統三字。一佑字七筆。咱字九筆。俱照算。統字十二筆。則減去十筆。照二筆算。餘仿此。舉例如下。

The character "Lin" occupies the hundreds place, "Shan" the tens place, and "Chong" the ones place. The second rule determines the number of strokes: if a character has nine strokes or fewer, count the strokes as they are; if it has more than ten strokes, subtract ten strokes and count the remainder; if it has twenty strokes, subtract twenty strokes. If the number of strokes is exactly ten or twenty, it is counted as zero strokes, and that position is recorded as zero. For example, the characters "You," "Zan," and "Tong": "You" has seven strokes, "Zan" has nine strokes, both less than ten, so they are counted as they are; "Tong" has twelve strokes, which is more than ten, so subtract ten strokes and count it as two strokes. All other characters are calculated in the same way. The demonstration is as follows.

林 - 百 八　山 - 十 三　沖 - 個 六 三）此書照大易三百八十四爻。作為三百八十四籤。所報之字筆畫以三百八十四為度。過於三百八十四。則須減去三百八十四計算。減後仍多。再減之。必減至不過三百八十四為止。假如佑咱統三字。為七百九十二數。減去三百八十四為四百零八數。仍過法數須再減三百八十四。為二十四，即照二十四查。餘仿此。舉例如下。

The third rule is to determine the "method number": this book establishes 384 divination signs based on the 64 hexagrams and 384 lines in the Zhou Yi. Therefore, the total number of strokes obtained from the reported characters should not exceed 384. If it exceeds 384, subtract 384; if the result still exceeds 384, subtract again, continuing until the remaining number is less than or equal to 384. The remaining number is the sign number. For example, if the three characters "佑, 咱, 统" total 792 strokes, subtract 384 to get 408; since 408 still exceeds 384, subtract again to get 24, and then look up the 24th sign. All other cases are calculated in the same way by repeatedly subtracting. The example is as follows.

報字 – 韶 山 沖 總數 – 八 三 六 減去 - 三八四 存 - 四零八 再減 - 三八四 存 - 二四

The example given is: the three characters announced are "Shao, Shan, Chong." The number of strokes for each character is recorded as hundreds, tens, and units, resulting in eight, three, and six, which equals eight hundred and thirty-six. First, subtract three hundred and eighty-four, leaving four hundred and eight; since this is still over the limit, subtract three hundred and eighty-four again, leaving twenty-four—thus referring to the twenty-fourth sign. Note: eight hundred and thirty-six minus three hundred and eighty-four actually equals four hundred and fifty-two. The original text writes "four zero eight," which is an error following the example of "seven hundred and ninety-two" from the previous text "You Zan Tong." Now, the text is recorded as is without correction. Readers should calculate according to the method of "subtracting until the result is no more than three hundred and eighty-four."

數已計定。即可查籤。

Once the number of strokes has been calculated, a remainder not exceeding 384 is obtained. This remainder serves as the sign number, which is then used to refer to the corresponding sign below, reading its sign poem and interpretation, which provides the answer to the matter in question.

1。天門一掛榜，預定奪標人；馬嘶芳草地，秋高聽鹿鳴。 2。地有神，甚威靈，興邦輔國，尊主庇民。 3。長安花，不可及，春風中，馬蹄疾，急早加鞭，驟然生色。 4。春花嬌媚，不禁雨打風飄；秋菊幽芳，反耐霜凌雪傲。 5。春雷震，夏風巽，臥龍起，猛虎驚，風雲會合，救濟蒼生。

Sign 1: On the day the heavenly gate opens and the list is posted, the person who will win the top position is already determined. A fine horse neighs on the fragrant grassland, and in the crisp autumn air, the sound of deer calls is heard. "Deer's call" is the music played at ancient banquets for newly successful examinees. This sign indicates that one is destined for fame and success, and by taking the initiative early, one can achieve it. Sign 2: There are divine spirits on the earth, majestic and highly effective. Their power is sufficient to revitalize the country and assist the court, honoring the ruler above and protecting the people below. This sign indicates that one has a powerful backer, and the endeavors are righteous, so one can take them on confidently. Sign 3: The spring flowers of Chang'an seem out of reach, but in the spring breeze, the horse's hooves are swift. This is inspired by Meng Jiao's line, "With spring wind in my heart, my horse gallops fast, and in one day I see all the flowers of Chang'an." It advises people to seize the opportunity and push forward early, as the situation will suddenly improve. The opportunity is right before you, and hesitation will lead to loss. Sign 4: Although spring flowers are beautiful, they cannot withstand wind and rain; autumn chrysanthemums, though fragrant and subtle, can endure frost and snow. This indicates that those who appear lively and bustling are unreliable, while those who are calm and enduring will have a better future. It is advisable to be cautious and not to be envious of superficial things. Sign 5: Spring thunder belongs to "Zhen" and signifies movement, while summer wind belongs to "Xun" and is gentle. The dormant dragon rises, and the fierce tiger is startled. This is a sign of a meeting of winds and clouds, indicating that the time has come and talented people will emerge. The actions taken will be great endeavors to help and save the world.

6。非玄非奧，非淺非深，一個妙道，著意搜尋。 7。君須悟，勿誤疑，有平路，任驅馳，隨時變易，件件咸宜。 8。虎戀高山別有機，眾人目下尚狐疑，雁來讖炕蘋果?此際聲名達帝畿。 9。貴客相逢更可期，庭前枯木鳳來儀，好將短事求長事，休聽旁人說是非。 10。嘹嚦徵鴻獨出群，高飛羽翼更紏紛，雲程北進好音遂，聞朝雲暮雨交加，有憑。

Sign 6: The matter in question is neither mysterious nor profound, nor is it shallow or difficult. There is only a subtle path in between. The answer is not hard to find, but one must be willing to seek it diligently; the fear is that one does not put in effort and yet expects to succeed by chance. Sign 7: I urge you to understand things yourself, and not let doubts delay you. There is already a broad and smooth path ahead, which you can freely ride upon. Just follow the trend and act accordingly, and everything will be appropriate. The future is unobstructed, and the thing to avoid is self-doubt. Sign 8: A tiger remains loyal to its high mountain, and there is a special opportunity in this. Others are still uncertain and doubtful at present. The third line of the text is corrupted and missing, and the words "Chen kang ping guo" do not make sense when read together. It should be something like messages sent by geese, and we record it as is with doubts. The last line says that one's reputation can now reach the capital, indicating a change of fortune and recognition by the court. Sign 9: Meeting a nobleman is something to look forward to. A phoenix has even perched on the withered tree in the courtyard. It is advisable to turn short-term matters into long-term plans, and not to listen to others spreading rumors. This indicates that the withered tree will revive, and one will receive help from a nobleman. The thing to avoid is verbal disputes. Sign 10: In the high call of a goose, one lone goose separates from the group, its wings spread wide and more scattered. A journey of ten thousand miles to the north is advancing, and good news will follow. The last two lines of the text are corrupted and do not form proper sentences, "Wen chao yun mu yu jiao jia, you ping" is recorded as is without correction. Overall, this indicates standing out above others and achieving success in distant travel.

11。無蹤又無跡，遠近均難覓，平地起風波，似笑還成泣。 12。神黯黯，意悠悠，收卻線，莫下鉤。 13。得意宜逢婦，前程去有緣，利名終有望，三五月團圓。 14。鼎沸起風波，孤舟要渡河，巧中卻藏拙，人事轉嗟跎。 15。意在閒中信未來，故人千里自徘徊，天邊雁足傳消息，一點梅花春色回。

Sign 11: The matter you seek has no trace, neither far nor near can you find it; on level ground, a sudden storm arises, just now smiling, in an instant you must weep again. This indicates empty efforts and joy turning to sorrow, all matters should be retreated from, and not act recklessly. Sign 12: Spirit is dim, mind is uncertain; at this time, you should take up the fishing line and stop casting. This indicates the time has not come, and your plans will not succeed, it is suitable to temporarily stop and wait quietly, forcing it will only bring trouble. Sign 13: When you are in success, it is suitable to meet the help of a woman, the future will have fate; wealth, profit, and fame will eventually be achieved, by the fifteenth day of the lunar month, you will be reunited. This indicates both love and fame will be achieved, but it needs time. Sign 14: Water is boiling in a pot, causing waves, yet you want to cross the river in a single boat; you think it is clever, but it hides clumsiness, thus human affairs become more delayed. This indicates the situation is dangerous and your strength is weak, trying to be clever leads to failure, it is suitable to delay your actions. Sign 15: Heart matters are idle, but messages have not arrived; a distant friend is also hesitating. Eventually, a wild goose from the sky will bring the message, like a single plum blossom reporting the return of spring. This indicates messages will arrive, and long separation will be reunited, but it will be a bit late.

16。心和同，事和同，門外好施功，交加事有終。 17。欲行還止，徘徊不已，藏玉懷珠，寸心千里。 18。心慼慼，口啾啾，一番思慮一番憂，說了休時又不休。 19。不遠不近，似易似難，等閒一事，雲中笑看。 20。桃李謝春風，西飛又復東，家中無意緒，船在浪濤中。

Sign 16: People's hearts are in harmony, and matters will also align. Going out and acting is just right, and all the confusion and complexity will eventually be resolved. This is favorable for harmony within and outside, and it is suitable to exert effort outwardly, and matters can be concluded well. Sign 17: One wants to move but stops, hesitating back and forth. Though a beautiful jade pearl is hidden in the heart, the mind has already traveled a thousand miles. This indicates a situation where talents are not yet recognized, and one is caught between advancing and retreating. Although capable, the right time has not yet come. Sign 18: The heart is sorrowful, and the mouth keeps murmuring endlessly. Thinking about it once brings worry once, and though one says to stop, it cannot be stopped. This indicates being troubled by doubts and constant verbal disputes. One should decisively let go and not be indecisive. Sign 19: The matter one seeks is neither far nor near, appearing easy yet seeming difficult. In reality, it is just a common small matter, which should be laughed off from the clouds. This indicates a normal situation, which does not need worry, and one should remain calm and at ease. Sign 20: Peach and plum trees have bid farewell to the spring breeze, and the flying fluff drifts westward then eastward. The people at home are in a dull mood, and the traveler's boat still rocks in the waves. This indicates that the time of bloom has passed, and there is no fixed course, with the household in disorder. It is suitable to remain quiet and wait for peace.

21。一水遠一水，一山旋一山，水窮山盡處，名利不為難。 22。事相扶，在半途，翻覆終可免，風波一點無。 23。喜喜喜，春風生桃李，不用強憂煎，明月人千里。 24。意孜孜，心慼慼，要平安，防出入。 25。見不見，也防人背面；遇不遇，到底無憑據。

Sign 21: There is a stream outside another stream, and a mountain follows another mountain. When you reach the end of water and mountains, fame and fortune will no longer be difficult. This indicates many obstacles but eventually reaching the destination, with the key being to persist without turning back. Sign 22: The matter is supported by someone, and it is still on the way. The troubles of reversal and confusion will eventually be avoided, with no disturbance. This indicates receiving help on the way, with no danger, and proceeding steadily. Sign 23: Three times the word 'joy' is mentioned, and the spring wind blows the peach and plum trees to bloom together. There is no need to worry and suffer unnecessarily. Under the bright moon, even though separated by thousands of miles, the heart is connected. This indicates joy coming to the door, worries are unnecessary, and distant people are safe. Sign 24: The mind is diligent and unremitting, yet the heart is sorrowful. To ensure safety, one must be cautious of mistakes in coming and going. This indicates an unstable mind and minor dangers outside, so careful behavior will avoid trouble. Sign 25: Whether seen or not, one must be cautious of someone acting behind the scenes. Whether encountered or not, in the end there is no proof. This indicates uncertain human relationships and matters without resolution, so one should not lightly believe verbal agreements.

26。一番桃李一番春，誰識當初氣象新；林下水邊尋活計，見山了了稱心情。 27。莫怪我見錯，心性自成屙；偏僻不通心，真人卻不魔。 28。祿馬交馳，男兒得志時；行程早辦，榮歸樂期頤。 29。了卻心頭事，三生夙有緣；香聞十里桂，移步入天邊。 30。緣黃閣，白了頭，畢竟成何濟，不如趁此精神，猶好買些真氣。

Sign 26: Once peach and plum blossoms have bloomed and faded, it is another spring; who can remember the original fresh appearance? It is better to seek a livelihood by the woods and riversides; when you see green mountains, your heart will be clear, and you can express your true feelings. This sign indicates a peaceful and unambitious success, and a safe retirement. Sign 27: Do not blame me for seeing things wrong; it is your own nature that has formed a disease; being stubborn and unwilling to understand, in reality, those who truly understand are not possessed by illusions. This sign indicates illness in the mind; it is better to change your thoughts first, and not to seek outside help. Sign 28: The stars of fortune and horses are competing, which is the time for a man to achieve success; it is advisable to prepare for the journey early, for future glory can bring joy for a hundred years. This sign indicates the arrival of fame, wealth, and honor; it is advisable to act quickly and not delay. Sign 29: After resolving the matters that have been pressing on the heart, one realizes that there was an earlier karmic connection; the fragrance of osmanthus can be smelled ten miles away, and with each step, one can directly reach the sky. This sign indicates the fulfillment of long-held wishes, achieving success in the imperial examination, and a broad future. Sign 30: To serve the mansion of a minister (the "Yellow Hall" refers to the official residence of a chancellor) and turn white-headed, in the end, what good does it do? It is better to take advantage of still having spirit, and cultivate more vital energy. This sign indicates a fruitless career, and advises people to turn back and focus on health.

31。離別間，雖不易，同伴行，獨不滯，早早起程，免他失意。 32。樂之極矣憂將至，巽兌分明吉與凶；未能光大終幽暗，日落西山返照中。 33。歷過波濤三五重，誰知浪靜又無風；須教明達青雲路，用舍行藏不費功。 34。缺月又重圓，枯枝色更鮮；一條夷坦路，翹首望青天。 35。行路難，行路難，今日方知行路難，前程廣大何足慮，勉力今朝度此灘。

Sign 31: Although parting is not easy, traveling together will prevent stagnation; it is advisable to start off early to avoid regret later. This is favorable for travel and partnership, and unfavorable for solitary delay. Sign 32: When joy reaches its peak, sorrow follows; the trigrams 「Xun」 and 「Dui」 divide fortune and misfortune. Matters cannot reach their full potential and will ultimately turn dark, like the sun setting in the west with only a faint glow remaining. This indicates a turning from prosperity to decline; it is advisable to act promptly and withdraw. Sign 33: Having experienced three or five waves, who would have thought that suddenly the waves calm and the wind is still; as long as one sees through the path to the clouds, whether to advance or retreat requires no effort. This indicates that obstacles have been overcome and success is in sight, with freedom to advance or retreat. Sign 34: The missing moon has once again become full, and the withered branches are now more vibrant; before one lies a smooth path, and looking up reveals a clear sky. This indicates a change from adversity to prosperity, old matters being renewed, and a bright future ahead. Sign 35: Having sighed three times about the difficulty of the journey, today one truly experiences hardship; however, the future is vast and not worth excessive worry. As long as one makes an effort to cross this dangerous stretch of the present, it will be overcome. This indicates current difficulties followed by a broad future.

36。春景明，春色新，春意傍水生，春天無限好，好去宴瓊林。 37。萬馬歸元，千猿朝洞，虎伏龍降，道高德重。 38。黃鸝報上林，春色鮮明，提鞭快著，馬上速行程。 39。大肆放靈丹，救人行萬千，到頭登彼岸，渡過入仙班。 40。一帶水，碧澄澄，舟住江上，月到天心，穩步其中，玄妙不聞，非人誤己，幾喪生身。

Sign 36: The spring scenery is bright and pleasant, the spring colors are fresh and clear, the spring spirit spreads along the riverside, and the spring light is boundless in beauty, just the right time to attend the Qionglin feast. "Qionglin feast" is a historical reference from the Song dynasty, where newly passed imperial examination candidates were honored with a banquet. This sign indicates success in the imperial examination, and favorable opportunities. Sign 37: Ten thousand horses return to their original source, a thousand monkeys pay homage to the cave. Tigers wear robes and dragons are subdued. This is a sign of profound spiritual cultivation and great moral reputation, indicating widespread support, the natural subjugation of evil forces, and the success of endeavors based on virtue. Sign 38: The yellow oriole sings in the Upper Forest Garden, the spring colors are exceptionally vivid; quickly pick up your whip and set off immediately. This indicates that good news has arrived, and it is advisable to act quickly, as delay may lead to mistakes. Sign 39: Widely distribute miraculous elixirs and medicines, saving thousands of lives; in the end, one also reaches the other shore and is admitted into the ranks of immortals. This sign indicates the reward of accumulating virtue and performing good deeds, where actions that benefit others will ultimately benefit oneself. Sign 40: A stretch of green and clear river flows, a small boat rests on the river surface, the moon has reached its zenith; being able to stand steadily in the middle, this mystery is hard to describe. If one entrusts oneself to the wrong person, it would be self-harm, almost leading to one's death. This sign indicates a beautiful and serene environment that hides danger, and one must be cautious in choosing people.

41。桃李舒妍，春光鮮麗，良辰美景君須記；隨心所往，事事相宜，無用多疑，幹瀆神只。 42。隱中顯，顯中微，箇中有玄機，參得透了，直上仙梯。 43。無上去，在前頭，回頭一悟，繩韁好收，千條萬線路常在，自好搜求。 44。四顧無門路，桃源路可通；修煉成正果，萬歲壽如松。 45。不用忙，不用慌，自有駐足鄉；鳴鼓響鐘地，三寶見門牆。

Sign 41: Peach and plum trees stretch out in graceful beauty, spring light is bright and lovely, please remember these fine days and beautiful scenery; at this time, wherever you go with your heart's desire, everything will be suitable, do not doubt, nor need to pray again to desecrate the gods. ("Shen Zhi" should be "Shen Qi", a mistake in the original text, it is recorded as is.) This indicates that all matters will go smoothly. Sign 42: When hidden, there is revelation; when apparent, there is subtle concealment, there is a profound mystery in between; once you understand it, you can directly ascend the ladder to the immortal's realm. This indicates that the key lies in recognizing the hidden and subtle, and upon realization, you will leap forward. Sign 43: The highest level is just ahead, as long as you turn back and realize it, the reins can be easily controlled; countless paths are originally there, just go and find them yourself. This indicates that you should not seek outwardly, but turn inward and you will find it. Sign 44: Looking in all directions, there is no way forward, only one path leading to the Peach Blossom Spring is available; by secretly cultivating along this path, you can achieve enlightenment, living as long as the evergreen pine. This indicates that the worldly path has reached its end, and it is suitable to turn towards quietness and self-restraint. Sign 45: Do not rush nor be anxious, there is a place where you can settle and stand; it is right where the gongs and drums sound, and the Buddhist "Three Treasures" appear between the gate and walls. This indicates that you will eventually find a resting place, and the opportunity lies in a quiet place.

46。奔波一世，總是虛浮，無常一到萬事休，急早回頭。 47。真真真，人不識。真真真，神有靈。歸宗返本，方是元精。 48。走盡天涯，風霜歷遍，不如問人三天，漸漸有回首見。 49。沉沉屙染，不見天心；雷門一震，體健身輕。 50。財馬兩匆忙，官祿有定方；豬羊牛犬，自去主張。

Sign 46: Having labored all one's life, in the end it is all empty and futile; when death comes unexpectedly, everything comes to an end, so it is better to turn back early. This sign indicates labor without results, and advises people to realize the truth in time. Sign 47: Repeatedly calling it true, but the world does not recognize it; repeatedly calling it true, and the gods know it. Returning to the original source and purpose is the true "original essence." This sign suggests returning to the origin as the best course, and all external pursuits are false. Sign 48: Having traveled all over the world and experienced many hardships, it is not better than asking people for advice for three days; gradually, there will be a time when you meet again. This sign indicates that seeking far away is not as good as asking nearby, and the turning point lies in people, not in the path. Sign 49: Suffering from a heavy illness, unable to see a ray of light; suddenly there is a thunderclap at the gate, and one feels light and healthy again. "Er" is the same as "ke," referring to illness. This sign indicates that after a long illness, a turning point appears, and recovery comes with a single thunderclap. Sign 50: The stars of wealth and horses are both in motion, and official positions have a certain direction; in the years and days of pig, sheep, ox, and dog, someone will come forward to take charge. This sign indicates that wealth and official positions have fixed portions, and the time of fulfillment is in these four branches.

51。空空空，空裡得成功；蟠桃千載熟，不怕五更風。 52。愁臉放，笑顏開，秋月掛高臺，人從千里來。 53。須著力，莫遠遊；長竿釣向蟾蜍窟，直欲雲中得巨鰲。 54。無蹤無跡，遠近難覓；旱海行舟，空勞費力。 55。細雨濛濛溼，江邊路不通；道途音信遠，憑仗借東風。

Sign 51: Saying three empty words in succession, success is achieved precisely in emptiness; the peach of immortality takes a thousand years to ripen, and even the cold wind at the fifth watch is not feared. This signifies that at first there is nothing, but eventually great achievements are made, and it is important to be patient. Sign 52: Worry fades away, a smile spreads; the autumn moon hangs high on the pavilion, and someone comes from a thousand miles away. This signifies the dispelling of worries and the arising of joy, with someone coming from afar. Sign 53: Effort should be made nearby, not far away; trying to fish with a long rod towards the moon palace's moon cave, one longs to fish up a giant turtle from the clouds. "Moon cave" and "giant turtle" both symbolize the top scholar, indicating a grand ambition and the need to study nearby. Sign 54: No trace, no sign, difficult to find near or far; like sailing on dry land, wasting effort in vain. This signifies that what is sought is empty, the more effort, the more futile, and it is advisable to stop early. Sign 55: Light rain dampens the ground, the path by the river is blocked; the road is far and messages are few, only hoping for a helping east wind. This signifies current obstacles, requiring external help to be overcome.

56。平地起風煙，時下未能安，高處覓姻緣。 57。正直宜守，妄動生災，利通名達，葉落花開。 58。君子升，小人阻，征戰生離苦；前有吉人逢，信在馬牛人在楚，事要營求妥。 59。紛紛復紛紛，欷歔獨掩門；斂眉望燈火，伴我坐黃昏。 60。紅顏美，休掛懷；人在車中，舟行水裡。

Sign 56: A sudden wind and smoke arise on level ground; at present there is no peace. One must seek this relationship from a higher place. It indicates current disturbances, with opportunities at a higher level. Sign 57: One should remain upright and steadfast; rash actions will bring disaster. If one can remain steady, wealth will come and reputation will be achieved. Just as after leaves fall, flowers will bloom again. It indicates benefits from maintaining righteousness, and one must avoid impatience. Sign 58: The virtuous advance, while the petty obstruct. In times of conflict, there will be added sorrow of parting. However, a fortunate person will appear ahead. News will come in the period of the午 horse and丑 ox, and the person will be in the southern part of the Chu region. All matters should be carefully planned and arranged to succeed. Sign 59: After disturbance comes more disturbance, one sighs alone and closes the door. Frowning, one looks at the lamp, which is the only companion until dusk. It indicates loneliness and worry, with no one to rely on. One should remain quiet and not seek. Sign 60: Although beauty is good, do not let it occupy your heart. "Jar Heaven" symbolizes a realm beyond the mundane, signifying enduring hardships and encountering a new beginning. Sign 145: Facing danger need not cause worry, and storms are not to be feared. If one meets someone with a surname containing the grass radical, the path to success is within reach. This signifies turning danger into good fortune and achieving success through the help of others.

146。船棹中流急，花開春又離；事寧心不靜，惹起許多疑。 147。可蓄可儲，片玉寸珠，停停穩穩，前遇良圖。 148。小子早趨庭，青雲久問程；貴人來助力，花謝子還成。 149。一心兩事，一事兩心；新花枯樹，直待交春。 150。大事恐難圖，殘花不再鮮。

Sign 146: The oar is being rowed vigorously in the middle of the river, flowers have just bloomed but spring is already leaving; although the matter has been settled, the mind remains unsettled, and many suspicions arise. The matter is decided but the heart is not at peace. Sign 147: It is possible to save and store, although it is only a piece of jade or a fragment of a pearl; keeping it steadily and safely, there will be good plans ahead. It is favorable to accumulate and to hold on, for small things can grow into great ones. Sign 148: The children have been taught early in the family, and the path to high rank has been sought for a long time; a nobleman comes to help, though the flowers have withered, the fruit still forms. The descendants will achieve success and eventually obtain their reward. Sign 149: One mind is trying to do two things, and one thing is held with two different hearts; a withered tree wants to bloom anew, waiting only for the season of spring. Matters that require divided attention will not succeed, and one must wait for the right time. Sign 150: Great matters may be difficult to plan, and fallen flowers will not regain their brightness. The time is past, and it is not favorable to take great action.

151。莫道事無訛，其中進退多；桂輪圓又缺，光彩更揩磨。 152。莫嘆事遲留，休言不到頭；長竿終入手，一釣上金鉤。 153。事前應有忌，未為恐先躓；欲往且遲遲，還須借勢力。 154。足不安，輿不安，兩兩事相得，憂來卻又歡。 155。鼎折足，車脫輻；有貴人，重整續。

Sign 151: Do not think things are without error, for there are many changes and shifts in advance and retreat; the moon waxes and wanes, and its brilliance still needs polishing. This indicates that the outcome is not yet decided, and further effort is needed. Sign 152: Do not lament the delay or stagnation of things, nor say that they will not reach an end; a long pole will eventually reach the goal, and one pole can fish up a golden hook. This indicates that although delayed, success is certain. Sign 153: Before taking action, there should be some caution, for fear of falling before even starting; if you want to go, do so slowly, and rely on external help. This indicates that it is advisable to proceed slowly and to seek assistance from others. Sign 154: The feet are not steady, and the vehicle is also unstable; yet the two matters can complement each other, and sorrow turns into joy. This indicates that amidst turmoil, something is still gained. Sign 155: The tripod is broken, and the wheel is detached; fortunately, a nobleman comes forward to restore and reconnect. "The tripod is broken" is taken from the fourth line of the ninth hexagram in The Zhou Changes, indicating that after initial failure, salvation is eventually achieved.

156。參詳言語，波濤揚沸，事久無傷，時間不利。 157。貴客自相親，功名唾手成；獲金須積德，仰望太陽昇。 158。平地起波瀾，所求事日難；笑談中有忌，同心事覺歡。 159。狂風吹起墨雲飛，月在天心遮不得；閒時無事暫相關，到底依然無剋剝。 160。人倚樓，許多愁；澹然進步，事始無憂。

Sign 156: Be careful with your words, for the situation is like boiling waves; if things are delayed, they will not be harmful, but the present time is not favorable. It is advisable to wait for the right time. Sign 157: A nobleman will naturally come close, and success will be easily attained; to gain wealth, one must first accumulate virtue, and one should wait for the sun to rise. It is favorable for a nobleman's help to achieve fame, and the reward will come from virtue. Sign 158: A wave is raised on flat ground, and the matter you seek will improve day by day; even in casual conversation, there are hidden taboos, and only through unity and effort will you feel joy. It is favorable to cooperate with others in external disturbances. Sign 159: Strong winds scatter dark clouds, yet the moon in the middle of the sky cannot be hidden; during idle times, occasional interference may occur, but it will not cause real harm. It is favorable that small people may cause disturbance but will not cause damage. Sign 160: A person leans on the top of a building, with countless worries; as long as one calmly takes a step forward, there will be no cause for worry. It is favorable to open one's heart and be at ease.

161。一點著陽春，枯枝朵朵新；志專方遇合，切忌二三心。 162。道路迢遙，門庭閉塞；霧擁去兮，雲開見日。 163。魚上鉤，絲綸弱，收拾難，力再著。幹 164。相引更相牽，殷勤喜自然；施為無不利，愁事轉團圓。 165。疑疑疑，一番笑罷一番悲，落紅滿地無人掃，獨對西風悵黛眉。

Sign 161: A single touch of spring's warmth upon the withered branches brings new buds; with a single-minded heart, one will meet favorable circumstances, but must avoid being fickle. Success comes from focus, failure from division. Sign 162: The path is long and the gate is closed; wait until the thick fog clears and the sun appears. This indicates temporary hardship that will eventually lead to success. Sign 163: Although the fish has been hooked, the fishing line is too weak to pull in; it must be reeled in with more strength. This suggests that the opportunity has been seized but strength is lacking, requiring assistance. Sign 164: Mutual support and encouragement bring joy naturally; all endeavors proceed smoothly, and troubles turn into harmony. This indicates success through the help of others. Sign 165: Only suspicion prevails, laughing once and weeping again; fallen petals lie uncleaned, and alone one faces the west wind, sorrowful and troubled. This indicates self-inflicted mistakes and fluctuating emotions of joy and sorrow.

166。上下不和同，勞而未有功，出門通大道，從此保初終。 167。大事可成功，有益還無咎，雲中執鞭人，報在三秋後。 168。桑榆催暮景，缺月恐難圓，若遇刀錐客，方知喜自然。 169。遍書前後事，艱險往來難，若得清風便，扁舟過遠山。 170。莫嘆殘花，花開枯樹；屋頭春意，喜笑嘻嘻。

This sign indicates a generally mild ending, which can turn favorable with the right person. Sign 169: Write down all past and future events, facing difficulties in the process; if a clear breeze carries you, a small boat can cross distant mountains. This sign indicates that relying on favorable conditions makes things easier. Sign 170: Do not lament the withered flowers, for even withered trees can bloom again; spring has already arrived at the roof, bringing joy to everyone. This sign indicates revival from a seemingly hopeless situation.

171。一事總成空，一事還成喜；若遇口邊人，心下堪憑委。 172。欲得月中兔，須憑桃李拂；高山來接引，雙喜照雙眉。 173。事遂勿憂煎，春風喜自然；更垂三尺鉤，得意獲鱗鮮。 174。圓又缺，缺又圓，低低密密要周旋，時來始見緣。 175。乘病馬，上危坡，防失跌，見嗟跎。

Sign 171: One matter ends in vain, another turns into joy; if you meet someone with a mouth radical in their name, you can fully entrust them. This indicates a loss and a gain, and it is advisable to choose a trustworthy person. Sign 172: To obtain the jade rabbit in the moon, you must rely on the effort of the peach and plum branches to polish it; a high mountain comes to welcome you, and double joy shines upon your eyebrows. This indicates the need for someone to recommend you, and double happiness will come about. Sign 173: The matter has already been fulfilled, so there is no need to worry; joy naturally arises in the spring breeze; then lower the fishing hook three feet more, and happily catch a fresh fish. This indicates a joy followed by another gain. Sign 174: It is full then empty, empty then full again; you must be humble and meticulous in your efforts, and only when the right time comes will you see the connection. This indicates the need to be flexible and patient, waiting for the right time to come together. Sign 175: Riding a sick horse up a steep slope, beware of falling and only seeing wasted effort. This indicates insufficient strength, and forcing matters will lead to failure.

176。雨事已和同，輕舟遇便風；道迷人得意，歌唱急流中。 177。白玉蒙塵，黃金埋土；久久光輝，也須人舉。 178。上接不穩，下接不和；相纏相擾，平地風波。 179。背後笑嘻嘻，中行道最宜；所求終有望，不必皺雙眉。 180。憔悴無人問，林間聽杜鵑；一聲山月笛，千里淚涓涓。

This presages possessing talent waiting for the right time, and becoming prominent when recognized by others. Sign 178: The upper part is not stable, and the lower part is not harmonious; mutual entanglements and disturbances arise, causing trouble even on level ground. This presages lack of harmony above and below, and inevitable disputes. Sign 179: Someone is smiling behind, walking the middle path is most appropriate; the desired outcome is ultimately hopeful, so there is no need to frown. This presages good fortune by maintaining the middle path. Sign 180: Appearing weary and neglected, only listening to the cuckoo's mournful cry in the woods; a single flute sound under the mountain moon, causing tears to flow from a thousand miles away. This presages loneliness, longing to return, and no one to confide in.
