The method of drawing the符 is as follows: first write the "Shang" character head at the top of the符 (the top three strokes represent the Three Pure Ones); on the left, write the cursive form of the "Qu" character, followed by a vertical stroke slanting upward to the right; on the right, draw a single stroke folding down and add three dots. Below, write the shape of the "Yi" and "Yi" characters, and add three dots. "The first符 for treating childhood wasting disease" is used for childhood wasting. The spell is: du, ma, sha, ma, ba, lu, ti. The method of drawing the符 is as follows: first write the "Shang" character head. On the left, write the "Dou" character, followed by a vertical stroke slanting upward. Method of drawing: First draw two dots on the left, with the tails of the dots pointing upward, shaped like a bird; then place two small dots in front; then draw a large dot in the center, write two vertical strokes on the left and one dot on the right; then start from the center and draw a ring shape to the left; draw one dot and one stroke below the left; on the right, draw one vertical stroke with a hook, with two "yi" characters at the top of the vertical stroke ("yi" stands for "chi"); beside the hook, draw one dot and one stroke. Recite the incantation three times while drawing.

The incantation says: Thunder rolls in the sky, thunder rumbles on the earth; the gods of the sixth heavenly stems and sixth earthly stems, upon hearing my name, shall not delay or stop; they will bring auspiciousness and bestow blessings, forever guarding the position of the dragon god in the residence. Method of drawing: First write the two characters "Anning" in seal script; within the character "An," write the four characters "Longshen Yongzhen" (Dragon God Forever Guards). Then draw a circle above the character "Long" (Dragon), and write the incantation inside the circle. When writing the last character, smoothly swirl to the left and smear the circle, while reciting the incantation seven times. When the recitation is completed, the circle is also fully smeared.

功用：凡家宅流年沖犯，致人口疾病，怪異出現者，宜以符咒鎮之。咒語：焚香昭告，家宅六神，各居各位，勿亂勿紊，消災降福，坐鎮門庭。筆順：先在正中寫六神二字，向左作圈塗之，頌咒一遍，塗後向左右二撇，一橫一豎，豎下寫一鎮字，塗沒如下法。再從左方起筆徐徐向右方及下方圈去，圈後向左上提，旁加七點，又從右下方向左方作一提筆。

Use: When a household is affected by the annual clash and control in this year, causing illness or strange occurrences among family members, this talisman should be used to pacify and resolve the issue. The incantation says: Burn incense and clearly declare, the six spirits of the household reside in their respective directions, do not be confused or mixed up; eliminate disasters and bring blessings, to guard this family's gate. Method: First write the two characters "Six Spirits" in the center, then draw a circle to the left and cover it while reciting the incantation once; after covering, draw one stroke to the left and one to the right, then write one horizontal and one vertical stroke, with the character "Zhen" (calm) below the vertical stroke, covering it according to the following method; then start from the left, slowly draw a circle towards the right and downward, after completing the circle, lift the brush to the upper left, adding seven dots beside it; then draw one stroke from the lower right towards the left.

"The符for Suppressing Evil Spirits in a Haunted House." Purpose: This符is used for any haunted house, or a house where ghosts have been seen, or where something has harmed living people. Using this符can ensure peace and safety. The incantation says: In the dim and dark realm, the heavens and earth are in a state of confusion; the officials, generals, and soldiers of the departments of thunder, lightning, wind, and fire, if they hear my name, should quickly descend. Drive away the evil spirits from the underworld, capture the malevolent spirits; stabilize the dragon spirits in the house and secure this residence, and the merit will be recorded in the heavenly court. Method of drawing: First, write the character "斗" (dǒu) in the center. From the end of the vertical stroke, draw a circle to the right, continuing until it meets the strokes, then turn right and go straight down, then turn up to the right and draw a slanting stroke. On both vertical strokes, write the character "火" (huǒ); the one on the left is slanted to the left, and the one on the right is slanted to the right. Finally, start from the middle and draw five curved strokes straight to the bottom, adding a dot at the bottom. While writing, recite the incantation seven times.

"The符 for Suppressing Ghosts in a New House." Purpose: When ghosts or spirits suddenly appear in a newly built house, this符 is suitable for suppressing them. The incantation says: "Devil stars and evil ghosts, ancient cave spirits, look at the same sky above, listen to the same words below; above there are the Six Jia, below there are the Six Ding deities; if you disturb and cause trouble, you will certainly provoke the anger of thunder and lightning. The Elder Laojun has given this command, ordering me to carry it out as instructed." Method: Start from the center, draw a stroke to the left and another to the right; then from below the left stroke, draw a circle, adding three dots above the circle on both sides; then on the left side, draw a vertical line downward, draw two connected circles, turn left from below, draw another circle, and then draw a stroke downward; on the right side, draw in the opposite direction. Then write the character "Huang" in the middle of the two strokes, and cover it as before; add three dots on top of the circle, shaped like a rat's claw; add a small mark below the circle; finally, draw a stroke from the bottom to the upper left.

"The符 for subduing the four凶符 in the dwelling." Usage: When the direction of a residence is afflicted by the four majorInauspicious Sha, this符 should be used to neutralize the influence. The incantation states: The Thunder Lord Saint Emperor resides far in the heavenly court, governing the Thunder Department generals Deng, Xin, Zhang, and Tao (the four great generals of the Thunder Department: Deng Boyun, Xin Hanchen, Zhang Yuanbo, and Tao Yuanxin); they can warn against all evils and do not pardon demons and devils; when thunder sounds, all calamities of ten thousand generations are eliminated. Method of drawing: First, draw a line to the right with a sweeping stroke, then write the four characters "Deng Xin Zhang Tao" below it, and cover them as before; in the center, draw a vertical line downward, then proceed to draw circles: first draw two circles on the left, then two circles on the right, and then move down to the bottom; the specific way of drawing the circles can be arranged freely. Next, draw a line downward to the center of the bottom, then draw a circle, and smoothly move to the right upward; finally, add three "yi" characters in the middle, then write the character "huo" (fire).

功用：凡家中時有失物或人有東置西忘記等皆係五鬼為崇，以此符鎮之。咒語：五鬼五鬼，奔逐忙忙，迷人藏物，搬運無常，我奉敕令，逐厲避荒，如敢有違，化骨飛揚。筆順：先一畫向左方下撇共畫四曲，如草書虎字。至末一筆折向下方，向右方連作二圈，然後轉向右上方，中間加一豎，豎末寫一殷字，如前法塗沒之。

"Zhenzai Fan Wugui Fu." Purpose: Whenever there are frequent losses of items at home, or when people place things on one side but forget them on the other, old beliefs say that the Five Ghosts are causing trouble. This talisman is used to suppress them. The incantation says: Five Ghosts, five ghosts, always running about without rest, confusing people and hiding objects, moving them around without any regular pattern. I now command you, these evil spirits, to be driven to remote places; if you dare to resist, you will be turned into bones and ashes. Method of drawing: First draw a line to the left, making four curved strokes, resembling the cursive character for "Tiger"; at the last stroke, turn downward and draw two circles to the right, then turn toward the upper right; in the middle, add a vertical line, and at the end of the vertical line, write the character "Yin," then cover it up as before.

The incantation says: The Azure Dragon resides on my left, the White Tiger stands on my right, the Vermilion Bird guards my front, and the Black Tortoise stands behind me; these four divine generals from all four directions guard my original form; the Seven Evils are merely malevolent spirits, how dare they enter my home. Method: Begin from the center, draw a circle towards the left direction, then turn downward at the point where the strokes meet, and draw another circle towards the upper right; then turn downward towards the left, and upward to form a shape; add a vertical stroke in the center, and add a 'yi' character on both sides; then start from the circle on the right, draw a single stroke to the left; add two dots on the left end of the vertical stroke and three dots on the right.

功用：此符咒於將登法壇時用。咒語：誦淨身咒及護身咒各三遍。筆順：先寫敕令二字，左方二曲三圈，轉下向右方上挑，挑上加四曲，中間一劃一點，向右方一撇帶至左方加劃撇，正中間先作十字形，後加四小圈，上下寫護衛二字。

"Amulet." Use: This talisman is used when about to ascend the altar. Incantation: Recite the "Purification Incantation" and the "Protective Incantation" each three times (the original notes mention that these two incantations are not included in the text, and suggest seeking them from other sources; this note is added by a modern person, and is therefore omitted). Method of drawing: First write the two characters "Edict." On the left, draw two curved lines and three circles, then turn the brush downward and then upward to the right; above the lifted stroke, add four curved lines; in the middle, draw one straight line and one dot, then a stroke to the right leading to the left, followed by another stroke and a slash; in the center, first draw a cross shape, then add four small circles; above and below, write the two characters "Guardian."

"The Purification Tablet." Use: This talisman is used before opening the altar to purify the altar area. "The Opening Heaven Gate Symbol." Usage: It is used before performing a ritual. The incantation uses the previously mentioned "Opening the Altar咒" (Opening the Altar Spell): I uphold the decree of the master teacher, urgently go to the Penglai Fairyland, urgently summon the fairy beings of Penglai, and quickly come to the altar. If there is any delay, it is considered to be defying the command of the Supreme Deity. The ending "Om Ha Na Pao" is a secret sound symbol. This spell should be recited seven times. (Here, "ji ru" should be "ji zhaO," and "chang he" should be "tang he," which differ slightly from the previous text.) Drawing method: First write the character "Da" (Great); then write one vertical line to the left and one downward to the right; in the middle, write three dots forming a "Ren" (Person) character shape; outside the "Ren" character, add two crossed strokes and then write a vertical line downward; write a "Wei" character (representing the character "Chi," meaning decree) on both sides; in the middle, write three "Huǒ" (Fire) characters; at the end of the vertical line, write the character "Lei" (Thunder) and cover it; then draw one stroke on both sides.

Although the names of the two formulas are different, their forms are identical, and they can be referred to by different names depending on the occasion they are used.

The method for drawing the first符: first draw two "mouth" characters side by side, then a single stroke below them; on the left, draw a small vertical stroke, then a stroke curving to the left and then downward, followed by a vertical stroke; on the left inner side, add a long vertical stroke, with five half "mouth" characters shaped on the right side of the vertical stroke; on the right, draw four curved strokes followed by a vertical stroke; in the middle, add a "zi" character—this符 is used for rituals at the hour of zi. The second符 is used in the same way as the first, with the same incantation; the drawing method: first write the character "si," then a stroke curving to the left and then downward, followed by a vertical stroke; below that, write the character "chou," then write two "huo" characters below the "chou," then write a secret character "gui" below, and finally write another "chou"—this符 is used for rituals at the hour of chou.
