十二月癸水，寒極成冰，萬物不能舒泰，宜丙火解凍，或丙透年時，加以壬透，支中多戊，名水輔陽光，主顯達名臣，無戊者，異途之職，若有丙無壬，黌門之客，有壬無丙，戊又出干者，皂隸之流。

The twelfth month builder is Chou, when cold reaches its extreme and water turns to ice, making all things unable to stretch or grow. Therefore, it is suitable to use Bing fire to melt the ice. If Bing fire appears in the year stem or the hour stem, and Ren water also appears, and there is also Wu earth in the earth branches to control the water, this is called "water assisting sunlight"—a situation where water reflects the sun and has embankments to rely on—indicating a prominent official. If there is no Wu earth, one can only hold an unconventional position. If there is Bing fire but no Ren water, one is a scholar in the academy. If there is Ren water but no Bing fire or Wu earth appearing in the stem, one is a low-ranking official or a servant in the government office.

或支見子丑，比肩出干，即有丙透，不能解凍，此屬平常，或無癸水，有辛與合，亦不為美，有丁出，頗吉。或一片癸己會黨，年透丁火，名雪後燈光，夜生者貴，日生者否，若無丁火，又主孤貧。

If the Earthly Branches include Zi and Chou, the coldness is strongest. If the Heavenly Stems also have a helper for water, even if Bing fire appears, it cannot break through this coldness, and it is only ordinary. If the column does not have another Gui water, but instead has Xin metal combining with Bing fire to bind the Bing fire, it is not good. At this time, if Ding fire appears on the Heavenly Stem, it is quite favorable. If the column has full Gui water and Ji earth forming a group, and the year stem reveals Ding fire, it is called "Snow After Lantern Light"—a single lamp in the snow. Those born at night are prosperous, but those born in the day are not. If even Ding fire is absent, it indicates loneliness and poverty.

或支成水局，無丙者，四海為家，一生勞苦。或支成火局，有庚辛透者，衣食充足，無金出，孤苦零丁。

If the earthly branches form a water trinity without the presence of Bing fire to melt the ice, the person will be rootless and have a hard life. If the earthly branches form a fire trinity, wealth will be abundant but the body weak. If there is a revelation of Geng or Xin metal to harmonize and drain the wealth to strengthen the body, then food and clothing will be sufficient. If there is no metal appearing in the heavens, the person will be lonely and destitute.

或支成金局，丙透得地，名金溫水暖，彼此相生，定許光大門閭，聲馳翰苑，乏丙者，即文章駭世，總為孫山。或支成木局，洩水太過，主殘病呻吟，得金出干輔救，技藝之流。凡冬月用丙，須丙火得地方妙，不然，即重重丙火出干，安能輕許富貴哉。

If the earthly branches form a metal group and the propitious fire (bing) appears above and has a root in the earth, it is called "gold warms water and water becomes warm." Metal and water support each other, and the person will surely have a prosperous family and a reputation spreading throughout the literary circles. Those lacking the propitious fire, even if their writings astonish the world, will ultimately fail in the imperial examinations. If the earthly branches form a wood group and the water is excessively drained, the person will suffer from chronic illness and constant suffering. If gold appears above to restrain wood and save water, they can only rely on one skill for a living. In summary, in the month of winter, using the propitious fire must have the fire rooted in the earth; otherwise, even if many propitious fires appear in the heavens, being superficial and rootless, how can they be easily granted wealth and honor?
