Once free of these Three Realms, the spirit dwells in the homeland of immortals and sages, and the nature rests in the realm of Jade Purity.

What is called the Dharma body (dharmakaya) is an image that has no trace of form.

It is neither empty nor existent; it has no before or after, no high or low, and is neither short nor long. In use it penetrates everywhere; in storage it is dim and leaves no trace. If you grasp this principle, then you are ready to nourish it.

The more you nourish it, the deeper your attainment; the less you nourish it, the shallower.

Do not set your heart on going away, and do not cling to the human world; go or stay as things naturally go, and that is right.

What is called leaving the ordinary world does not mean the body leaves; it speaks of the ground of the mind.

The body is like the lotus root and the mind like the lotus flower: the root is planted in foul mud, yet the flower opens in empty air.

One who has attained the Dao, though his body is in the dust of the world, has a mind already at rest in the sacred realm.

People today, seeking not to die, take "leaving the ordinary world" to mean the physical body leaving the human realm. This is truly foolish, and shows a failure to understand the principle.

I speak these fifteen discourses to awaken those in my school who have resolve, hoping they will examine and grasp them deeply.
