Ren mountain combined toward Zi (Ren belongs to the yang Water of the Kan trigram, due north by west; sitting Ren and facing Bing, combined with Zi-Wu): it governs descendants both rich and noble; every branch of every house obtains the auspicious; cattle, sheep and the six domestic animals multiply; male issue is abundant and landed property increases by the day; sons, grandsons and daughters-in-law are all loyal, filial, worthy and good; fame spreads to the four quarters; generations stretch on without end; those who take office rise rank by rank. This is an auspicious combination and may be used.

壬山兼亥：初代子孫富貴發如雷，二代子孫不出人倫立嗣過繼，三代出軟瘋、跛足，又為賊首定遭凶，日後單丁過代。

Ren mountain combined toward Hai (Ren belongs to the yang Water of the Kan trigram, due north by west; sitting Ren and facing Bing, combined with Hai-Si): the first generation of descendants is rich and noble, rising to fortune as swiftly as a thunderclap; the second generation cannot beget and transmit the line in the ordinary way, and must take an heir by adoption from another house; the third generation produces the palsied, the mad and the lame, and also one who takes to the wilds as a robber-chief and dies a violent death; thereafter the household dwindles, and only a single male remains to carry on with difficulty. An inauspicious combination, to be shunned.

子山兼壬：子孫初代發如雷，半吉半凶，二代不吉，內外男女淫亂，瘋疾破敗，妻離賣子，食藥吊頸割喉，過後單丁，投河自諡，休日後方二房絕。

Zi mountain combined toward Ren (Zi is the middle mountain of the Kan trigram; its Earthly Branch belongs to Water and occupies due north; sitting Zi and facing Wu, combined with Ren-Bing): the first generation of descendants rises like thunder, yet good and ill are half and half; by the second generation it turns inauspicious—men and women within and without the house lose their virtue, fall into madness and ruin the family estate; husband and wife part, children are sold, and there are even cases of taking poison, hanging from a beam, or cutting the throat; thereafter the household is thin, and there are those who drown themselves; in the end the second house cuts off the incense fire. ("Self-eulogising" should be read as "self-strangling.") An inauspicious combination; it should not be established.

子山兼癸：初代子孫人丁興旺，廣進田莊千萬萬，富貴武權鎮邊疆，二代房房興盛，男婦孝順，賢肖千丁，萬口子孫，壽如彭祖。

Zi mountain combined toward Gui (Zi is the middle mountain of the Kan trigram; its Earthly Branch belongs to Water and occupies due north; sitting Zi and facing Wu, combined with Gui-Ding): the first generation of descendants is abundant in people; manors are acquired by the thousand and ten thousand without number; they obtain both wealth and nobility and hold military command, garrisoning the frontier; the second generation sees every house flourish, men and women filial, worthy and good sons by the thousand and ten thousand, their span of years as long as Pengzu's. A combination of the highest auspiciousness.

癸山兼子：初代子孫人丁，發無周全，半凶半吉發如雷，敗如灰，日後子孫抽氣瘋疾吐血，嫖賭浪蕩，百件武藝皆凶。

Gui mountain combined toward Zi (Gui belongs to the yin Water of the Kan trigram, due north by east; sitting Gui and facing Ding, combined with Zi-Wu): the first generation, though it has heirs, cannot prosper completely; ill and good are mixed, rising like a thunderclap and failing like cold ash; later descendants suffer convulsions, madness and coughing of blood, sink into whoring and gambling and roam without measure; whatever has to do with arms or the arts of skill brings only the inauspicious. Good and ill intermingled; use it with caution.

癸山兼丑：初代均平發如雷，富貴齊全，二代家門昌盛，滿堂和順，千丁萬口學門著紫衣世官應。

Gui mountain combined toward Chou (Gui belongs to the yin Water of the Kan trigram, due north by east; sitting Gui and facing Ding, combined with Chou-Wei): the first generation sees every house profit evenly, rising like thunder, wealth and rank both complete; the second generation finds the gate flourishing, the household in harmony, descendants by the thousand and ten thousand, who by study and examination don the purple robe (under the old system, officials of the third rank and above wore purple); the response of generation after generation in office does not fail. An auspicious combination, to be taken.

丑山兼癸：初代子孫發如雷，不久年月後，瘋疾損丁，妖凶孤寡，大敗三代，子孫漂危，路風黃疼、貧窮，若離妻沐浴為賊，首人充軍絕嗣。

Chou mountain combined toward Gui (Chou belongs to the Gen trigram; its Earthly Branch belongs to Earth, northeast by north; sitting Chou and facing Wei, combined with Gui-Ding): the first generation of descendants rises like thunder, yet before many years have passed madness cuts down the household; strange and inauspicious affairs and orphaned mothers follow one another, and three generations fail in succession; descendants drift in peril and hardship, catch wind-cold and yellow-swelling and are poor; there are also those who put away a wife, offend by the peach-blossom, or take to the wilds as robbers, and who are sent in exile as convicts until the line is cut off. ("Yellow ache" is suspected to be "yellow swelling"; "bathing" is a technical euphemism for sexual licence.) A combination of great inauspiciousness; strictly avoid it.

丑山兼艮：人丁大旺，田莊萬頃，富貴室外無疑，滿門著紫衣，官世應子孫，受恩女進蟬宮，男作公候守邊疆，富貴極品。

Chou mountain combined toward Gen (Chou belongs to the Gen trigram; its Earthly Branch belongs to Earth, northeast by north; sitting Chou and facing Wei, combined with Gen-Kun): this configuration has male issue in great abundance, manors stretching to ten thousand qing, wealth and rank that may be counted on; the whole household wears the purple robe of high office, and the official fortune of generations answers upon the descendants; women, favoured by grace, enter the palace; men are enfeoffed as dukes and marquises and garrison the frontier, noble to the last degree among ministers. ("Gong hou" is "duke and marquis.") A combination of the highest auspiciousness.

Gen mountain combined toward Chou (Gen occupies the exact northeast; of the Five Phases it is Earth; sitting Gen and facing Kun, combined with Chou-Wei): the first generation has some wealth and office, yet good and ill are half and half and nothing is complete; men and women conduct themselves improperly, wealth is wasted and issue cut down, and peach-blossom licence runs riot in the house; by the third generation there are youths who die early and widows who keep an empty chamber, and the calamities of coughing blood and consumption; madness, muteness, blindness, deafness and a hunched back are all to be judged as certain to appear. ("Tuo bei" is "hunched back.") An inauspicious combination, to be avoided.

艮山兼寅：初代富貴齊全，千丁萬口淑賢良，家門昌盛足興隆，兒孫代代受皇封，三公及第永無窮。

Gen mountain combined toward Yin (Gen occupies the exact northeast; of the Five Phases it is Earth; sitting Gen and facing Kun, combined with Yin-Shen): the first generation has wealth and rank both fine; descendants are many and each is worthy, refined and good; the gate flourishes and prospers; sons and grandsons receive court honours generation after generation, rise to the Three Dukes, and examination successes follow one another without end. A combination of great auspiciousness.

寅山兼艮：初代富貴齊，二代英雄之子，長兵權，千丁萬口武將郎，代代高增，福壽全全，金玉袍無休，數滿門朱衣盡來監。

Yin mountain combined toward Gen (Yin belongs to the Gen trigram; its Earthly Branch belongs to Wood, northeast by east; sitting Yin and facing Shen, combined with Gen-Kun): the first generation has both wealth and rank; the second generation begets heroic sons who hold military command; descendants are many and many become military officers; official rank rises generation by generation; fortune and longevity are both complete; gold belts and jade robes do not cease, and the whole household of crimson-robed nobles enter court to serve. An auspicious combination, which may be used.

寅山兼甲：初代富貴，人丁旺，凶多吉少，二代瘋疾麻症，虎傷雷打，食藥吊頸，淫亂為賊首，孤寒寡宿，日後人丁敗弱。

Yin mountain combined toward Jia (Yin belongs to the Gen trigram; its Earthly Branch belongs to Wood, northeast by east; sitting Yin and facing Shen, combined with Jia-Geng): the first generation, though it has wealth, rank and a flourishing household, has more of the inauspicious than of the auspicious; the second generation suffers madness and paralysis, or is torn by a tiger or struck by lightning, or takes poison and hangs from a beam; through sexual licence they become robber-chiefs, lonely, poor and cold, sleeping without a mate; thereafter the household dwindles by the day. An inauspicious combination; it should not be established.

甲山兼寅：初代小富貴不吉，一興一敗，二代命人至貧寒，孤妖損少丁，瘋疾跛足黃腫病，雷打妻子又賊首，日後沐浴，百事不吉。

Jia mountain combined toward Yin (Jia belongs to the yang Wood of the Zhen trigram, due east by north; sitting Jia and facing Geng, combined with Yin-Shen): the first generation, though it has some wealth and office, is in the end inauspicious, rising and failing by turns; the second generation has those who sink into poverty, lonely and dying young, with young issue cut down, suffering madness, lameness and yellow swelling; there are wives struck by lightning, and robber-chiefs appear; later the house offends by peach-blossom licence, and nothing goes smoothly. An inauspicious combination, to be avoided.

甲山兼卯：人丁大旺，六畜成群，富貴齊全，科甲及弟，男女節孝賢良。

Jia mountain combined toward Mao (Jia belongs to the yang Wood of the Zhen trigram, due east by north; sitting Jia and facing Geng, combined with Mao-You): this configuration has male issue in great abundance; cattle and sheep and livestock gather in herds; wealth and rank are both complete; the sons rise by examination; men and women keep chastity and filiation and are of worthy conduct. ("Ji di" should be read as "ji di," to pass the examination.) An auspicious combination, which may be used.

卯山兼乙：初代人丁大旺，六畜興盛，三代廣駿，田業科甲，富貴齊全，武將登舉，男女孝順賢淑良。

Mao mountain combined toward Yi (Mao is the middle mountain of the Zhen trigram; its Earthly Branch belongs to Wood and occupies due east; sitting Mao and facing You, combined with Yi-Xin): the first generation has male issue in great abundance and livestock multiply; by the third generation there is wide prosperity, land is acquired and an estate founded, examinations are passed, wealth and rank are both complete, and military officers appear who receive recommendation; men and women are filial, worthy, refined and good. ("Guang jun" is suspected to be "guang jin," wide advance.) An auspicious combination.

乙山兼卯：初代小發，不久長子，人丁興旺，二代至向興衰，退財損丁禍未熾，貧窮孤寒，嫖賭淫亂，絕嗣不吉。

Yi mountain combined toward Mao (Yi belongs to the yin Wood of the Zhen trigram, due east by south; sitting Yi and facing Xin, combined with Mao-You): the first generation has a slight rise; before long the eldest house has abundant male issue; by the second generation it tends to be unsettled between rise and decline, wealth is wasted and issue cut down and the seeds of disaster grow fierce, ending in poverty, loneliness and cold, sinking into whoring, gambling and licence, with the line cut off—decidedly inauspicious. An inauspicious combination, to be shunned.

乙山兼辰：六畜興旺，永世富貴齊全，二代廣進田莊，男女節孝，滿門卷身著朱紫，福祿盈。

Yi mountain combined toward Chen (Yi belongs to the yin Wood of the Zhen trigram, due east by south; sitting Yi and facing Xin, combined with Chen-Xu): this configuration has cattle, sheep and livestock multiplying; generation after generation wealth and rank are both complete; the second generation acquires manors on a great scale; men and women keep chastity and filiation; the whole household, high and low, wears the crimson robe and the purple sash (under the old system, the third rank and above wore purple, the fifth and above crimson); fortune and emolument are full to overflowing. Chen mountain combined toward Yi (Chen properly belongs to the Xun (巽) trigram; its Earthly Branch belongs to Earth, southeast by east; sitting Chen and facing Xu, combined with Yi-Xin; the original book inserts this article among the mountains of the Zhen trigram, and it is here recorded in the original order): the first generation has wealth and rank flourishing; the second generation has descendants filling the hall, granted the rank of military officers; the third generation produces heroic figures who hold the outlines of court government. 卯山兼甲：初代富貴齊全，均平進田莊，子孫忠孝賢良，高官進職。

Mao mountain combined toward Jia (Mao is the middle mountain of the Zhen trigram; its Earthly Branch belongs to Wood and occupies due east; sitting Mao and facing You, combined with Jia-Geng): the first generation has wealth and rank both complete; every house profits evenly and acquires manors on a wide scale; descendants are loyal, filial, worthy and good; those who take office are high in rank and repeatedly promoted. This too is an auspicious combination.

辰山兼巽：主房均大富貴，六畜興旺，錢糧萬頃，二代富貴極品，千丁萬口武將登舉，神童出賦，四海名揚，兵部滿堂受封。

Chen mountain combined toward Xun (Chen belongs to the Xun trigram; its Earthly Branch belongs to Earth, southeast by east; sitting Chen and facing Xu, combined with Xun-Qian): this configuration gives every house great wealth and great rank; livestock multiply; money, grain and fields are counted in ten thousand qing; the second generation is noble to the last degree among ministers; descendants are many and military officers receive recommendation; there also appear divine children able to compose rhapsodies, their fame spreading to the four quarters; the whole household serves in the Ministry of War and is enfeoffed. 巽山兼辰：財退損丁，人命官非，離妻賣子逐凶食藥，吊頸人丁敗。

巽山兼巳：富貴齊全，房房均吉，代代興隆。

Xun mountain combined toward Si (Xun occupies the exact southeast; of the Five Phases it is Wood; sitting Xun and facing Qian, combined with Si-Hai): this configuration has wealth and rank both complete; not one descendant of any house is inauspicious; generation after generation they flourish and prosper. 巳山兼辰：後代平平，一興一敗，幸子孫賢良。

午山兼丁：日後孤寡退財損丁，嫖賭，為賊首人，命離妻，官司疾病賣子，內外出怪，後必絕。

申山兼坤：房房富貴，代代興隆，福祿壽全。

辛山兼酉：久後富貴不周全，損丁破財，官司人命，食藥奇死，家門淫亂，瘋疾火症，單丁貧苦。

Xin mountain combined toward You (Xin belongs to the yin Metal of the Dui trigram, due west by north; sitting Xin and facing Yi, combined with You-Mao): as the days lengthen wealth and rank are hard to make complete; the household is cut down and money wasted; lawsuits and homicide seek one another out; they take poison or die an unnatural death; the gate is licentious; they suffer madness and fiery-heat disorders; only a single male remains, poor and in hardship. 辛山兼戌：房房均平，富貴雙全旺丁，子孫賢良。
