Abstract from the Siku Quanshu

外宅德，宜作學習道藝，功巧立成，亦得名聞，千里四方來慕，亦為師統，子孫居之有信，懷抱義，壯勇無雙。外天德、金醫、青龍，此三神並宜濃厚實，大舍高樓，或有客廳。卿相遊宴，過往一家，富貴豪盛，須賴三神，尤宜開拓。若冷薄荒缺敗陷，即貧窮也。外青龍，不厭清潔，焚香設座，延遲賓朋，高道奇人，自然而至，安井及水讀，甚吉。

The outer Dwelling Virtue position is proper as a place for studying arts of the Way; skill is soon mastered, and a name can also be won, so that people from a thousand li in all directions come in admiration, and one may even become the founding teacher of a school. Descendants who live here keep faith and righteousness, take responsibility, and are strong and brave without peer. The three spirit-positions of the outer courtyard—Heavenly Virtue, Golden Physician, and Azure Dragon—should all be built dense and substantial, with large buildings and tall towers, or a reception hall: ministers and chief counselors come to wander and feast, guests pass without cease, and the wealth, honor, and magnificence of the household all depend on these three spirits, so they are especially proper to extend outward. If this place is cold, thin, neglected, vacant, ruined, and sunken, there is poverty. The outer Azure Dragon position is the cleaner the better; burn incense, set seats, and invite guests and friends, and men of high attainment and strange worth will naturally come to the door. To sink a well here and to open watercourses and culverts (the original 'water-reading' is 'water culvert') is extremely auspicious.
