Miao Gong's method of determining the prosperity and decline of the year

《苗公密寶》云：“五行每二日一遷換，每十日則一輪轉。”此六壬占法，旺相之精髓也。常行說卻以四季分之用者，謬矣。在抵天元六甲運氣治病，次五行相四時，而分五臟，乃醫家治病法之妙處。若在譚式之中，每月三十日之間，五行三周，每旬十日，五行輪一遍，此六壬式用課之活法也。

The *Miaogong Mibao* says: The energy of the Five Phases changes every two days and completes a cycle every ten days. This is the essential principle in the Six Rats divination method for determining the prosperous and strong phases. However, the common practice of assigning the prosperous and strong phases according to the four seasons is incorrect. Generally, the heavenly stems of the Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch system are used in the context of treating illness. By combining the Five Phases with the four seasons and associating them with the five internal organs, this is the subtle method of the medical profession for treating illness, not the method of the Six Rats system. If within a month of thirty days in the Six Rats system, the Five Phases go through three cycles, with each ten-day period completing a full rotation of the Five Phases—this is the practical application of using the Six Rats system for divination.

山陰道士云：“凡丙日計二十四時，五行各有旺相死囚休處。過兩日而遞收換也。假令甲乙日森旺火相土死金囚水休，象春之時序也。餘仿此。先賢之玄秘，聖人之奧妙，愚欲隱之，恐後人不明，故為是說也，學者秘之。”二十八宿起法因是納甲內容，略。大六壬苗公射覆鬼撮腳卷終。

The mountain shade hermit said: Every two days consist of twenty-four hours. Within these two days, the Five Phases each have their respective positions of strength, prosperity, death, captivity, and rest. After two days, they follow each other in sequence. For example, on the days of Jia and Yi, wood is strong, fire is prosperous, earth is in death, metal is in captivity, and water is in rest, which corresponds to the seasonal order of spring. The rest of the days follow the same pattern. This is the profound secret of the ancients and the profound wisdom of the sages. I originally intended to keep it hidden, but fearing that later generations would not understand, I have written this passage. Scholars should keep it secret.
