Qian Trigram (Heaven)

This entire chapter discusses the interpretations of supernatural phenomena caused by the movement of each line in the Eight Palaces Trigrams. The method of reading is: after casting the hexagram, first determine which line is active, then refer to the "Najia" stem and branch assignment to find the corresponding stem and branch. Based on this, the interpretation will state what kind of supernatural entity is involved, what household object is causing trouble, and often concludes with methods of appeasement. The Inner Trigram of the Qian Palace takes the stem and branch assignments of Jiazi, Jiayin, and Jiachen, while the Outer Trigram takes Renshen, Renwu, and Renxu. When the first line (Jiazi) of the Qian hexagram is active: it indicates that there is a temple for the Five Holy Ones at the front gate, and the household population will decrease by two or three pairs. It is advisable to burn down old walls covered with nets and dust, as a broken stove and a perforated pot bottom are ominous signs. There must be a stone-paved pond in front of the house, and boats and ponds will bring misfortune. There is also a widow living with a person of another surname in the house. When the second line (Jiayin) is active: it indicates that the grain mill in the house and the farmland are damaged, and they should be repaired as soon as possible. The interpretation says that there is a hole on the left side of the cupboard, and Buddhist images are hung with iron or wooden hooks. It is advisable to hold a ritual offering to the local land deity, as the vows made to the incense and flame offerings in previous years have not been fully fulfilled. When the third line (Jiachen) is active: it indicates that the parents are suffering from illness, and it is advisable to pray to gods and Buddhas. The interpretation says that Jiachen belongs to the earth element, which conflicts with the central earth deity. There is a broken water barrel moved under the cupboard. It is advisable to hold a ritual offering to the incense and flame deity and the house deity, to appease the calamity and remove the earth demon, thus avoiding disaster.

The fourth line (Renshen) of the Qian hexagram: This indicates that the family's kettle has lost its mouth, and there is an old gourd hanging in the room. The vows for incense and fire have been delayed and not fulfilled; this prediction will certainly come true. The fifth line (Renwu) of the Qian hexagram: This indicates that the house has two doors facing each other, and the woman in the family is about to give birth. The interpretation says that there is an ancient object and a kettle in the house; vows made to the temple and monastery's guardian deity have not been fulfilled. One should welcome the incense and fire, and make a banner and canopy, because the incense and fire of the Buddha and deity have not been properly arranged. The sixth line (Renxu, the original text lacks the character 'Ren') of the Qian hexagram: This indicates that old vows have not been fulfilled for a long time, and there are also wronged ghosts and evil spirits to be cautious of, as they may harm the family's bloodline and lives. The interpretation says that there is a triangular stone in the cabinet; broken goldware, axes, and swords will bring misfortune; broken pestle and stone mill are not auspicious; the evil dog in the house will even climb onto the bed. The carefully corrected volume two of the Ghostly Spirit Divination Classic · Divination of Strange Phenomena and Ghostly Spirits

When divining whether a household has strange things or ominous signs, one should look at the hidden yao (lines) that are not apparent in the "flying and hidden" (fei fu) structure. If the "Tengshe" spirit is activated and falls into a particular trigram and is associated with a particular "Six Relations" yao, then one should use the oral formula provided in this chapter for interpretation, which has been verified. The general conclusion from the "Ghost Spirit Classic" states: this divination technique is called the "Ghost Spirit Classic," and the results obtained from the hexagrams are more accurate than those of the gods. When interpreting the trigrams, the trigrams Qian, Gen, and Xun should be interpreted according to the Five Phases. However, the first step is to examine the yao where Tengshe falls. The specific interpretations for Tengshe entering the eight trigrams are as follows: if Tengshe falls into the Qian trigram, it indicates disaster related to wealth and objects; if it falls into the Dui trigram, it suggests damage to buckets and doors, and family disputes; if it falls into the Xun trigram, it indicates mice damaging boxes and containers; if it falls into the Gen trigram, it suggests anomalies with scales; if it falls into the Li trigram, it indicates ominous stones at the front door ("liang" refers to Gen, "cheng" refers to scales).

The divination interpretation for the snake (腾蛇) affecting the Six Relations (六亲) is as follows: If the snake falls on the Siblings (兄弟爻), it indicates misfortune for children; if it falls on the Parents (父母爻), there should be caution of mourning within the family; there may also be snakes or similar creatures entering the house; otherwise, it may relate to disturbing dreams at night, causing unease in the mind. When the snake is on a yao belonging to the Metal (五行属金) element, the movement of the snake into metal indicates financial loss, or trouble from a furnace or iron cauldron; borrowed money, tinware, copperware, or similar items are not auspicious, and this yao indicates mourning attire. When the snake is on a yao belonging to the Wood (五行属木) element, the movement of the snake into wood indicates damage to cabinets or wardrobes; if it also enters the Water element, there will be a ditch or channel passing through the center of the house (a water ditch directly facing the front or back of the house); it definitely indicates immoral behavior by women, jealousy, and quarrels; one should act early to prevent future regret.

If it appears on the寅 line, it mainly signifies sudden fears and disputes, along with foxes entering the house and chickens or ducks being harmed; if it appears on the卯 line, it mainly indicates wild cats howling on the roof and also requires vigilance regarding chickens and ducks. The snake hexagram appearing on the辰 or巳 lines indicates snakes entering the house, livestock loss, and the death of cats and dogs; if it appears on the午 or未 lines, one should be cautious of the ominous sound of the cooking pot, which signifies destruction and harm. The snake hexagram appearing on the戌 or亥 lines indicates a dog climbing onto the roof or bed, causing trouble frequently, which is not a good omen; when it appears on the亥 line, one may frequently see pigs and dogs behaving strangely. In summary, each line should be analyzed separately, and the reasoning is endless.

The meticulously corrected divination manual "Ghostly Spirits Classic" Volume Three · The sixty-four hexagrams' strange and mysterious secrets

This section explains the interpretation of the sixty-four hexagrams in relation to strange occurrences in an old family's possessions. General rules state: whenever a "wandering soul hexagram" appears, it is advisable to adopt a child from another family, marry a woman from outside the family, or take in a son-in-law by marriage, and to change the residence for good fortune; otherwise, the family's ancestral property will be difficult to maintain. The interpretations for the hexagrams Qian (Heaven) and Dui (Lake) indicate that these hexagrams suggest the presence of metal objects such as knives, spears, drums, and bells, which are items belonging to others found on the road, and these can cause people to be unable to move their hands and feet. There are also dirty shoes, axes, and grinding stones, which can lead to shortness of breath and lower back pain. The hexagram Huan (Dispersing) indicates the removal of gourds and inkstone vessels, otherwise it can cause stomach pain and food poisoning. The hexagram Kan (Water) indicates the presence of a pond, and the hexagram Guan (Observing) indicates the presence of a wall, both of which can lead to people from other families moving into the house, causing the family to become divided. The hexagram Jie (Regulation) mainly suggests resolving valuable items in others' chests; the hexagrams Kui (Dispute) and Li (Crossing) indicate clothing that has passed through others' hands; and the hexagram Jin (Progress) originally indicates that someone in the family is having an affair with an outsider.

The interpretations for the hexagrams Kūn and Xùn (Earth and Wind), which indicate a broken old chest damaged by rats: Kūn and Xùn signify an old tomb and an old ladder; if these are located at the entrance, it is very inauspicious. The hexagrams Zūn (Sprouting) and Dǐng (Tripod) relate to cooking and the stove, which may cause disorder in meals and irregular eating habits. The hexagrams Bǐ (Union) and Mēng (Youth) indicate broken ancient tiles and a stone mill; when encountering 'jiāo zhòng' (a situation where old yin and old yang lines are activated), one must carefully distinguish to understand the subtle implications. The hexagrams Jìjì (Completion) and Lí (Fire) suggest the presence of scissors in the home, which may lead to marital discord and possibly separation. The hexagrams Dàguò (Great Excess) and Xiǎoguò (Small Excess) indicate old cabinets and wardrobes, suggesting that there are two families with adopted sons living together in the household. The hexagrams Jiān (Family) and Sǔn (Loss) point to a broken lamp stand, which may bring in disputes and verbal conflicts.

Continuation: The卦 of Tongren is most suitable for living with others, as money matters are often based on integrity, and neither side suffers loss. The卦 of Dàyǒu indicates that the cowshed needs repair, otherwise it may invite foreign ghosts into the house. The卦 of Fù indicates the presence of ghosts with bloodshed, and women's illnesses may not be cured. The卦 of Zhōngfú indicates the presence of evil spirits causing suicide, which often lurk in secret and are hard for children to escape. The卦 of Jiàn and Guān indicate broken scales, broken measures, and broken measuring cups. Another section discusses human affairs and difficulties: the master has something on his mind that he cannot speak of; there are wandering spirits and ghosts coming from outside ("ling zu" refers to foreign ghost soldiers), which may cause financial loss and much gossip. The卦 of Qiān indicates there is a sharp object in the house. The卦 of Kǎn indicates that the door, screen, and bed are in bad condition and need attention. The卦 of Gèn indicates measuring tools such as scales, rulers, measuring cups, buckets, etc. The卦 of Zhèn indicates there are flowering trees and branches in the northeast direction.

This passage discusses the hexagram influences on the main house and its entrance and pathways. The Xun hexagram indicates that there must be some disturbance within the house, and the path in front of the door is sloping, requiring repair. The Li hexagram suggests that the entrance is damaged, the path is winding like a carpenter's square, and the fire stove and the deities worshipped will not provide support. The Kun hexagram indicates that the house is connected to neighboring houses, which is ominous. The Dui hexagram suggests that a small building may suffer sudden misfortune. The Bo hexagram indicates that the entrance and path are unfavorable for travel. The Jie hexagram suggests that a high building should be relocated. The Kui hexagram indicates that jars and pots may cause trouble. Further, regarding the hexagrams of wells, stoves, beds, and objects: the Jing hexagram indicates that the bed is unstable. The Zhen hexagram indicates that the ancestral graves are collapsing in terms of feng shui. The Xun and Li hexagrams indicate a pit behind the house, which is ominous. The Dui hexagram indicates that old cabinets are entirely inauspicious. The Tongren hexagram suggests that household spirits often clash with people. The Jie hexagram indicates that bamboo items will ultimately bring no benefit. The Xu hexagram suggests that vows made to imperial deities must be repaid to avoid calamity.

The analysis of the乾宫 according to the eight states of strength, prosperity, infancy, decline, death, captivity, rest, and decay (旺、相、胎、没、死、囚、休、废) is as follows: The乾 star indicates that the road in front of the door is straight and orderly, with many households gathered together; if not, the pillars of the door are leaning. On the southern side, there is a small house, which is connected to the ancestral tombs. Further, regarding the signs of decay (主有旧斗, door with a widow): if not, there are 'official ghost' hexagrams activated in the north and south directions; the stove is broken, and the cabinet is damaged, indicating misfortune. The official hexagram with the sound of feathers suggests that a woman cannot assist. In the months of寅 and申, there is worry about illness and toothache; there is also fear of legal troubles in the direction associated with winter. There is an unusual deity entering the house, so be cautious of sacrificing chickens for worship. It is necessary to perform rituals and exorcisms early to avoid misfortune.

The interpretation for the "T'ai" position in the Gen palace: The Gen star indicates a remote road with tall trees and hemp growing nearby; this is due to the disturbance of the incense burner before the Buddha; women and children will suffer from calamities; crows calling and strange creatures appearing indicate the presence of ghosts; building a house may offend the earth deity and cause conflict; the family head will soon face misfortune; a broken stove should also consider the condition of other items in the house; old iron tools broken will not be wrong; the ancestral tomb is located in the directions of Yi, Xin, Ren, and Bing. Further discussion on the Gen star (concerning disturbance of pregnancy): The Kun direction indicates a big mountain, with children passing through it; there are ancestors named Si Lang, Liu Lang, and Ba Lang buried there; the Huan hexagram indicates misfortune, damaging sheep; there is a crossroad in front of the door; a relative in the family has died by hanging; snakes will be brought in, causing trouble; the wish for incense or help from a temple or monk's dwelling; old tombs may cause disputes; one or two household deities are also causing trouble.

The interpretation of the Qian Star (on the collapse of tombs and surrounding landforms): Tombs have collapsed, water has eroded the soil, and disasters have occurred; the graves in the directions of Xin, Dui, and Geng have not received proper worship; the ancestors of the eighth daughter and ninth younger sister have accumulated much resentment; be cautious of the months of Yin, Shen, Chou, and Wei, as they will cause financial loss for your family; strange occurrences are found in the eastern mountain and northern area; the orientation of the tomb is Bingyin, Kun, and Gen, and the interpretation is accurate. The interpretation of the "Xiang" position in the Kan Palace (on strange occurrences, with many Tengshe hexagrams in the Xun Palace): The Kan Star indicates that people live in the southwest direction; if the day branch coincides with Jiayin, Ding, or Gui, there will be no harm; there is a winding road and a flowing body of water in front of the door; a person who died violently is causing trouble at the entrance; this belongs to the category of ghost and spirit interpretations. In previous years, there were wandering souls without masters, whose corpses were not properly buried; centipedes and snakes are worrying about causing injury through the mouth; the incense burner will bring disaster next year; someone who died violently is纠缠 with family members; there is already a sign of dogs barking and causing alarm at the front door; be cautious of disputes and sores and boils; the local community shrine still has unfulfilled vows, with insufficient paper money and no fish prepared for worship; thus, theInauspicious Sha "Tian Hong" has been attracted, causing trouble; if one gets sick in the western direction, there will be danger.

The interpretation for the position of the Zhen Trigram (Thunder) in the "No" position (discussing the dwelling and entrance): The Zhen Trigram indicates that the family lives near a pond or pool; if not, there is a wall outside the door. The family is likely to have many dreams. Someone in the family may feel restless and uneasy. There may have been an incident where the incense burner was knocked over, leading to punishment from the gods and spirits. Alternatively, there may be a disaster caused by wooden boards. There is a heavy object placed in the Northwest direction, so one should be cautious of legal troubles. There may also be a stranger living with them. Further discussion on the Zhen Trigram (when the腾蛇 is present, there will be disturbances caused by chickens, snakes, mice, and dogs): There is a crowing chicken at midnight and a broken jar. Old household items may cause trouble. There is a woman who committed suicide outside the door. The grave nearby has been freshly dug. Disasters arise from the direction of Ren and Gui, where water flows continuously. The ancestors of the fifth, sixth, and third daughters may cause trouble together. Ghosts from outside may enter the house, swaying about.

The interpretation for the Wind Trigram (Xun) in the 'death' position (discussing the dwelling and entrance): The dwelling is located at the foot of a mountain, with nearby ancient tombs and streams; the entrance, cabinets, and stove are either moved or repaired; someone has whispered curses behind the back ('micro sound' refers to murmuring), thus creating a grudge regarding property; one should worship the cross death spirits and the land god to pray for fortune and be free from worries; there must also be an old brick stove made of earth. Further discussion on the Wind Star (discussing the arrangement and adjustment of objects): otherwise, sharp objects are placed on the stove's waist; the souls of women who died in childbirth, such as the eighth and third daughters, cry by the door continuously; one should also avoid blood wealth (livestock) loss and lawsuits from outside; during the卯 month,酉 month, and申 month, there will be troubles; if two families live together, there will be financial loss, loss of energy, and additional worries.

The interpretation of the "captured" position in the Li (Fire) trigram (discussing the fortune of the entrance): two fires are connected, and the hexagram belongs to Li; there is a winding road and a pond in front of the door; there is a ghost of a young relative who died unjustly, who often cries at midnight by the door; when one dreams of him, one feels happy, but when one does not dream of him, one feels sad (indicating that this ghost has deeply entangled itself); the bed and the cabinet are broken and have no legs; the house faces in the directions of Yi, Xin, Ding, or Ji. Further discussion on the Li star (discussing the entrance and direction): the directions of Xun, Qian, and Ren are also to be interpreted in this way; if one finds objects belonging to a family that has become extinct, it will cause the domestic animals to run away; a large stone at the entrance brings disaster, inevitably causing heart pain and damaging the silk business; a clay stove made of stones is inauspicious; or it is caused by the disorderly placement of axes and saws.

The area of the坤 (Earth) direction is in the 「墓」 (burial) position. If there is a straight road facing the坤 direction, and the entrance is elevated, plus there are ponds, ditches, and canals; if the kitchen is ruined, tree roots break through the walls, and rotten wood is present, these together invite misfortune, which is hard to avoid. Previously, a vow was made at the village shrine, but it has not been fulfilled for several years, and now disaster has come. Further, regarding the坤 direction (the fortune of the ancestral tomb): it is also advisable to avoid marrying people from afar; in middle age, there will be mutual harm, with both good and bad outcomes. If the ancestral tomb is located in the丁 or癸 directions and there is water coming from the乾 or巽 directions, it is advisable to move and change it early to avoid hardship. If there is an incident of hanging at the front door, it will bring disaster; otherwise, it may result in death by weapons. One should urgently seek a spiritual talisman to suppress the evil, to prevent the disaster from spreading like fire scorching hair.

The interpretation of the "发" position in the Dui palace (concerning pathways and directions): The Dui palace indicates there is an old path near the entrance; there is a crossroads where people pass through frequently; on days of Yihai, Mao, and Chen, there will be troubles involving livestock; ghosts with surnames Zhang and Wu may harm people; the pillars and beams of an old house have been renovated; an ancient tomb by the stream may bring misfortune; there is a woman who died secretly; if a weapon falls to the ground, it may injure a person; thus, mountain ghosts may cause trouble. Further discussing the Dui star (concerning the family shrine not being worshipped): The ghosts transform into birds in the Xun direction that call out at night; the graves at Kun, Gen, Gui, and Ding need to be filled with soil; there has never been a ritual offering or tomb sweeping on Qingming Festival; once seen at the crossroads of heaven and earth, but it is unknown which one is the mountain god. This is the true transmission from the gods, and should not be casually spread or used.

The refined edition of the Ghostly Divination Classic Volume Four · Song of Divining Family Residences and Ancient Objects

This section is a rhyming mnemonic for divination regarding the appearance of ancient objects in a household that cause strange phenomena. The general principle is: whenever an ancient object appears in a house and causes strange occurrences, use the "Holistic Heaven Stem Assignment" to determine which line is activated. According to the paired stem and branch, compare it with the ancient object and new items in the house, which is most accurate. "Value balance" means to be present, and "follow the heart" should be "follow and search." The interpretations of the trigrams in the Qian Palace are most effective: if a line meets Jiazi, it indicates there is a pond in front of the door, the teapot has no mouth, and there is loss of money and grain; if a line meets Gengzi, it indicates there is a road shaped like a carpenter's square in front of the door, and there was once a tree that bloomed white flowers nearby; if a line meets Wuzi, it indicates there was a bend in front of the door, and this family prefers to plant green bamboo. The lines used in the Xun Palace trigrams: if a line meets Xinchou, it indicates there is a well with a spring in front of the door, and there are winding trees nearby; if a line meets Yiwei, it indicates there is a straight tree like a writing brush in front of the door, and this family has wealth but cannot retain it; if a line meets Dingsi, it indicates there is a crossroad in front of the door, and several families live in the same entrance.

The use of lines in the Zhen palace hexagrams: if a line meets Gengyin, it indicates there are two layers of tombs in front of the house, and this family will surely decline gradually (「xiao suo」means dwindling and desolate); if a line meets Renshen, it indicates there is a crossroad in front of the house, with an old path left by ancestors on the upper side; if a line meets Bingzi, it indicates there is a main road directly in front of the house, and the head of the family will often encounter misfortune; if a line meets Xinmao, it indicates there is a broken chopping board in front of the house, and cattle and horses often suffer damage near the enclosure; if a line meets Jisi, it indicates there is a winding stream in front of the house, and this family has accumulated wealth (「qian ke」refers to money); if a line meets Gengchen, it indicates there is aInauspicious Sha之神 (god of凶杀, meaning violent death) in front of the house, and this family certainly has someone who is sick for a long time without recovery.

The trigram Zhen indicates the presence of ancient artifacts. Interpretations: If the line meets Gengxu, it signifies that the road in front of the door is intersected, and there is now a good family living nearby; if the line meets Jiaxu, it indicates that the road in front of the door must be renovated, otherwise the family will decline and the situation will be difficult to manage (the phrase "Jia Wu" should be read as "Jia Xu"); if the line meets Renshen, it indicates that there is a winding stream in front of the door, and a mountain will be present at the lower part to collect the water; if the line meets Dingwei, it indicates that the front of the door faces west, with withered vines entwined around the trees, damaging new branches; if the line meets Bingwu, it indicates that there is a tree blocking the front of the door. The subtle applications of the trigrams in the Kan palace: this household can accumulate wealth and land (continuing from the previous sentence); if the line meets Renwu, it indicates that there is cultivated farmland in front of the door, and there are often deceased males and females who come to "stand as relatives" (referring to spiritual marriages or similar entanglements); if the line meets Wushen, it indicates that there is a purple bamboo fence in front of the door, with money coming and going, causing suspicion; if the line meets Jihai, it indicates that there is a shrine in front of the door, with a crowd of wild ghosts coming to pay homage and demand repayment; if the line meets Xinyou, it indicates that there is a large tree in front of the door, where evil spirits and devils reside.

The fifth volume of the meticulously edited "Ghost and Spirit Classic" · Deciding on the Essential Days for the Month General in October

This section explains how to determine illness and the spirits causing it based on the twelve month generals. "Shengguang" is the name of the month general for the hour of Wu. When the month builder meets Wu, it is known that the illness caused by Shengguang entering the hexagram is a strange disease, with the sickness rising to the heavens. Out of ten cases, nine are dangerous, with the illness lingering. There is a feeling of depression in the chest accompanied by fever and rapid, disordered breathing. Additionally, there is pain, making the illness unbearable to describe. The spirits involved are the Director of Destiny, the Kitchen God, and the river and stream gods. It is necessary to perform rituals for appeasement and liberation. Moreover, the souls of those who died violently and the family ancestors are also causing trouble. The hexagram for the Wu palace indicates that there is a great sha at the gate, so it is advisable to perform a ritual of sending away and expressing gratitude. The local deity and the ghosts coming from the morning have been lingering for many years. Use items such as wooden boards as substitutes for the patient to send away the sickness. In this way, the patient will gradually recover.

"Xiao Ji" is the name of the month general for the sign Wei. When the month builder meets Wei, it indicates that Xiao Ji is present in the hexagram and the image of illness appears. The interpretation states: if Xiao Ji is the day of the divination for illness, it indicates headache; the three jiao are feverish and restless, with pain in the abdomen; the whole body feels heavy and one cannot get up; there is a flyingStorage (storage) evil spirit, which is extremely dangerous; the illness was contracted in the卯 (eastern) direction, and after wandering around, it still returns to this place; there is a conflict between the ghosts and people under the corridors of the temples in the north and south. The hexagram for the Wei palace indicates: the soul of someone who died violently and the earth deity are both causing trouble, making the person speak nonsense; the wooden boards used for a substitute body are not yet prepared, hence causing ominous dreams; one must invite a shaman to perform a ritual to appease and send away the spirits, and then the medicine will take effect.

"Transmission" is the name of the Month General for the hour of Shen, used to interpret matters related to the seventh month.
