Ruo Hou and Ji Du force the Tai Yin out of its original position. At this time, if Tai Yin can occupy the positions of殿, 驾, 禄, or 贵, it will be auspicious; if it falls into a malefic position, it will be inauspicious. The Moon, being a star of yin and softness, has cycles of waxing and waning, such as the new moon, full moon, and the first and last quarters. It relies entirely on the assistance of other stars. Those born during the day should see Jupiter, Venus, Qi, and the Sun; those born at night should see Mercury, Bo, Ji Du, Mars, and Ruo Hou. These stars should appear before and after Tai Yin. The most feared situation is when yin and yang are reversed and the stars lose their proper positions. If there are auspicious stars in front of Tai Yin, and it is close to the禄 star and Nobleman, while malefic stars pursue it from behind, it is actually better. (This sentence in the original text reads '尤吉', which seems inconsistent with the meaning. It might have been '尤急', but we follow the original text.)
Passing Through the Gate Example
The method of "passing through" (通关) is as follows: starting from the Mao palace, count backwards, adding Chou to Yin, Yin to Chou, Zi to Mao, Hai to Chen, Xu to Si, You to Wu, Shen to Wei, Wei to Shen, Wu to You, Si to Xu, and Chen to Hai. In this way, Zi communicates with Mao, Chou with Yin, Chen with Hai, Si with Xu, Wu with You, and Wei with Shen. For example, if a person's natal palace is Zi, then their passing through palace is Mao. If the Mao palace has the禄星 (favorable star), 贵人 (nobleman), 殿星 (palace star), 驾星 (chariot star), and also 火星 (fire star), 罗睺 (Rahu), which are considered the mother of the natal lord, then the person's life will be auspicious. Conversely, if the passing through palace contains Yangren (sheath blade), Jiesha (calamity), and 破碎 (fragmentation), along with 木 (wood), 气 (energy), and 鬼星 (ghost star), then the person's life will be difficult and obstructed. Scholars should understand this principle.
Limitation into an empty gate
When one's great limit enters the "Empty Closure," it means that although there are deities, stars, and celestial influences in this limit, they are far away and have no connection to the person. Once the current year's star collides with this, it brings about malevolent influences (the original text is missing a character, marked as "□," which should be "malevolent"), and this person is destined to be like someone in a dream, dying during this limit. The term "empty limit" refers to when one's limit reaches the position where the harmful stars were at birth, but there are no stars governing this place, and the ruling star is far away, located in the triple harmony positions. This is called an "empty limit." If Mars, Rahu, Kedou, and Bo star happen to be exactly at this limit's degree and clash with each other, then this person becomes like Zhuangzi's dream of a butterfly, unable to return.
The position of the person's birth chart at the time of birth, along with the body palace and life palace, if guarded by the "qi" and Jupiter, and if the palace ruler is located in a very peaceful position, such a person is likely to become a monk or Taoist. If it is also in a flourishing position, or if the person was born with the presence of noblemen or stars of academic achievement, they will certainly become a highly esteemed monk. If only Rahu is guarding, it indicates taking control of great power. Those born at night, if their body palace is harmed by Saturn or the comet star, they will eventually return to secular life. If they commit offenses involving punishments or exile, they will also return to secular life; but if there are protective stars, they can avoid this fate.
The凶 star is as terrifying as the「忌」star.「夺」originally refers to the凶 star (the original text is missing a character, marked as「□」, which should be「凶」). If the planet of metal, RuoHou, JiDu, Bo star, fire star, and earth star transform into evil stars, they are also evil. Suppose there is an evil star coming from behind, about to finish the critical period and the final period; yet another凶 star is coming directly from the initial period and the critical period, with the two evil stars shining directly at each other. The person will certainly become someone who is buried according to the「XieLuGe」song. For example, if a strong star fights in the field of property and wealth, or if strong stars gather in auspicious houses to fight, they could be resolved by mutual control and「气」. But beware, once the light of「气」star appears,「忌」or「夺」will come to meet it, which indicates great worry and a quick death, with no room for leniency.
Venus carries a malevolent energy and meets the star Luo Hui, two malevolent stars reinforcing each other. This method of calculation reverses the usual distinction between old and young, making all calculations unfavorable. It only awaits the decree of the King of the Underworld to summon the person to Peng Lai and Ying Zhou, which signifies death. Specifically, this occurs when Venus with the 'stealing' aspect falls exactly on the correct degree within the inner gate, or when it is precisely at the point of sharp confrontation. It also occurs when the fire and earth malevolent stars are the main factors, and Venus, Bo Star, and Luo Hui are all involved. If an elderly person encounters this situation and the stars are in a prosperous and vital position, or if a young person encounters this situation and the stars are in a dying and exhausted position, such configurations often indicate death.
Golden Ox Spirit Poem
The song says: When the main star returns to its original position, it is most concerning; if the five stars come with the "steal" evil star to conspire, and the "taboo" star joins to intensify the calamity, this fate is destined for the White Jade Tower — that is, the death of a scholar. The explanation follows: The method of reversing the limit is first determined by the "steal" star. If the "steal" star is in the limit and meets the "energy" star that generates it, or if the palace main star is in mutual generation with it, or if it transforms into a malevolent star and goes against the season, then the limit is definitely reversed. Mars and Saturn are called "taboo" stars, which are also evil stars; when these two stars meet, it is called "two evils conspire," which is the most harmful. In such a configuration, even if one has more merit than the seven stars of the Big Dipper, it cannot escape the fate of being taken by the inevitable. If the "taboo" and "steal" stars meet and mutually control each other, although they are both called two evils, they are actually opposing each other, and if they meet more than ten degrees apart, they only cause some disasters, and even if there is a sign of death, it can still be saved. But if the limit is exactly at this position, then death is certain.
Malevolent star accompanied by a cutting blade
The song says: When the fire and earth stars come together with the Yangren, how can they be resisted when they combine smoothly in their native palace and temple? Once the flowing year's sovereign comes to clash and overturn them, even the nobility of a marquis or duke will suffer misfortune. Explanation: The fire and earth stars are originally malevolent stars, and with the addition of 'duo' (taking), their malevolence becomes even worse. Moreover, since they each align with their regular positions and occupy their native palaces, their power is strong. When they meet the sovereign of the flowing year and the month general to clash, the resulting calamity is endless. When one's great period reaches this point, even with the medical wisdom of Bianque, it cannot be saved. If these two stars are in the native palace along with the Yangren, broken pieces, and other malevolent stars, the person will certainly not end well.
On the reversal of fate's limits
The Tai Sui is the leader of all evil spirits, leading them to walk along the Black Path, so it brings calamity without missing the right time. A person's lifespan, poverty, lifelong circumstances, fortune and misfortune, and marital fate (the original text has several missing characters marked as '□', which should be read as 'misfortune' or similar) all depend on the Tai Sui. If the position of the person's body palace, life palace, as well as the day, month, and main star of their destiny all fall into the area of evil spirits, and the evil spirits also flank from both sides, occupying a strong and prosperous position, then even if one enjoys temporary blessings, it is not a lasting situation. When the major life period enters the area of evil spirits, it is inevitable to meet a violent death. Or when auspicious stars are纠缠 by malevolent spirits, or malevolent stars are overshadowed by auspicious spirits, the punishments and misfortunes can be predicted, and one should carefully examine these matters.
Therefore there are ten taboos: first, the star of fortune is broken by a clash; second, the post-horse falls into kongwang; third, the year star directly presses upon the destiny; fourth, sitting on a malevolent star while facing it; fifth, the malevolent star is powerful and dominant; sixth, the great limit enters the land of ghosts, that is, the place that conquers me; seventh, forming the "ghost formation"; eighth, two malevolent stars sandwich the great limit; ninth, the main star of the person is restrained; tenth, the mother star that nourishes me is conquered by the season. If the destiny and the great limit violate these ten taboos, the danger is extreme. The classic says: longevity does not need to be sought, it has already been determined, so there is no need to discuss it further; such people often face difficulties in their lives, and are often lonely and sad. If at birth the day, month, and main star are each restrained, and the great limit has just entered the beginning of the malevolent god, or is just leaving the end of the malevolent god, and there is no saving star coming, there is no way to avoid misfortune (the original text is missing characters, marked as "□", which should be the character for "misfortune"). Now various malevolent stars' strength and weakness are compiled into twenty poems, which are attached afterwards.
Twenty Reverse Limitation Verses
The first poem discusses jiesha: jiesha originally is the leader among all evil stars, if the person's body palace falls into the empty position and the main star is not supposed to be here, then it should not come again; if it forms a 'ghost formation'—that is, a formation that harms the person's body, then death is inevitable, evil stars appearing above do not need further guessing. If there is no star sitting here, one must carefully check the triple harmony positions; once the heaven plate shifts and adds an evil star here, life is like a dying lamp in the wind, soon to be broken. The second poem discusses the three evils: one must know that the three evils are extremely凶 (the original text is missing a character, which should be '凶'), they cannot appear together with the destiny, if they do, the person will not have a good end; if there are no good stars within the triple harmony, it is even more to be avoided, do not let them meet with other evil stars again. If the sun and moon stars also reside here, and there is also an official fortune star pressing down, the disaster will be even heavier; when the great limit is about to leave the end of the evil period, the person's fate is already fixed in the underworld.
The third section discusses Yangren: Among all the malevolent stars, Yangren is the most凶. If both the body宫 and the命宫 are afflicted by Yangren simultaneously, it indicates financial loss and legal troubles. When the great limit period reaches this position, one should be fearful, for the malevolent stars are pressing down upon it, and it may be difficult to pass through. If there is not even a single auspicious star here, it is especially to be avoided. One must thoroughly examine the entire situation to determine life and death. If within the Triple Harmony there are also divine stars supporting, then just as one leaves Yangren, one enters the realm of the underworld (the original text has several missing characters marked as '□', which should be words like '凶' or '冥', and I do not dare to make up them). The fourth section discusses Wangshen: Everyone says that the seventh malevolent star is Wangshen, but do not think that the calamity of Wangshen is light. If the body宫 and the命宫 fall into this position, one will be poor and encounter obstacles throughout life. If additional凶stars and evil stars are present, traveling through the great limit period is like walking on thin ice. The Triple Harmony position should be carefully examined. If malevolent stars come to join, this limit period will be even more difficult to pass through.
The fifth verse discusses the "soul's evil spirit" in the Si (Snake) palace: Si is the place where metal grows, and the evil spirit is here, with a severe and heavy evil energy, causing fear; one must never allow the Jiesha (calamity evil spirit) to be in the same palace, for that would lead one to the Yellow Spring (underworld). If someone has a water destiny and the earth star is also present, the earth will overcome water, forming a true evil spirit situation. People should not only fear those born in autumn, but those born in the seasons of Chen, Xu, Chou, and Wei (the four seasons of earth) are even more dangerous, because these seasons belong to earth. The sixth verse discusses the "soul's evil spirit" in the You (Rooster) palace: You is the flourishing place for metal, and the evil spirit is here, with metal energy like autumn frost, the evil energy is extremely deep; if Yangren (sharp weapon) also arrives, then the evil star and the sun and moon should not appear here. If it is not an evil energy attack, it would be considered a premature death; once the great limit enters, the steps become hurried. The year of the heavenly stem is directly opposing, how can this life continue?
The seventh verse discusses the evils of the Chou palace: if the evil star falls into the Chou palace, Chou is the metal storehouse, and the evil spirit enters the storehouse, it is not originally凶 (dangerous). But if it is combined with the three evils and the Yangren, then the fate of this period is decided in an instant. If the Wangshen and the evil star also arrive, although there is an evil, it does not lead to death, but it is still dangerous. If it is further supported by the sun and moon from three directions, the calamity and danger will be even more severe. The eighth verse discusses the limit star and the evil star: if the star of the limit does not share the palace with the evil star, it can be safe. But if the sun and moon come from three directions, it becomes even more dangerous. Two evil stars enclosing the limit in the middle are especially terrifying. When the Heaven Plate moves and凶 stars are added, the calamities accumulate layer by layer. The person born in the Wu palace is most afraid of the wood star, and the Hai palace is called the 'eight evil palace'. In fact, it is not necessary for the wood star to arrive here; if the water star arrives, it will also lead to death.
The ninth verse discusses the overall situation: the situation must be carefully examined, for ordinary people do not understand this level of heavenly mechanism. Even if malevolent stars are not present, one should still be cautious, because "ghost stars" are stars that harm the person, and when they appear in the limit, it is still dangerous. If the Moon is in the ghostly configuration, just entering this limit, the situation becomes perilous; adding jiesha and yangren, and with malevolent stars on the heaven plate, misfortunes come without hesitation. The tenth verse discusses the secret of reversing the limits: star fortune masters have true methods for reversing the limits, first one must push the malevolent stars and celestial lights; but one must not be confined to this single path, one must also look at whether the main star of the person is damaged. If the main star is secure and not harmed, then the person is indeed safe and trouble-free; if the main star is harmed by other stars, then even the gods would be puzzled.
The eleventh verse discusses where the malevolent spirits exert their power: one must know where the malevolent spirits stop and exert their influence, for when two malevolent stars are in the same position, it is most terrifying; one should also observe where the malevolent spirits move after the Heaven Plate is added and the palace positions shift repeatedly, for that is what is truly worth worrying about. Even if no malevolent stars are added, one should still be cautious of the year's Tai Sui (Great Year) invading; once the malevolent star on the year's position shines upon the heavens, the fate of the heavens is doomed and cannot be stopped. The twelfth verse discusses Jiesha (劫煞) and Yangren (羊刃): Jiesha is feared at the beginning of the limit, the three malevolent stars are feared at the end of the limit, and Yangren is to be avoided both at the beginning and the end. If Yangren falls in the appearance palace, it is certain to cause disfigurement and damage to one's appearance. This malevolent star is included in the 'Eight Malevolent Stars,' and when the Tai Yin (Too Yin) arrives here, it becomes dangerous (the original text is missing a character, marked as '□', which should be 'dangerous'); when Yangren and Jiesha support from both sides, it is difficult to avoid misfortune when it occurs.
The thirteenth section discusses flying malevolent influences: if a malevolent force arrives at a certain place and becomes even more harmful (the original text has three missing characters marked as 「□」, which should be read as 「凶」), then one should not place the body palace and life palace within that area. One must understand that the ghostly formation is extremely heavy, and the person's fate, whether yin or yang, should not meet with it. This malevolent force does not require looking for harmonious combinations; instead, one should investigate its effects based on the original earthly branches. If the life period is exactly moving to that place, the malevolent stars will be present, and the person will certainly not have a good ending. The fourteenth section discusses the fact that malevolent forces are not always harmful: malevolent deities should not be considered entirely as harmful. If a malevolent force is located in Kongwang, it will not ultimately be harmful. If the sun and moon are not present there, and the life palace is not there, then the malevolent star is not on the person's fate, and the person will not suffer harm. However, if the life period is just leaving the tail of the malevolent deity, it will certainly bring about a disaster, and the person's fortune will be poor. This is a truly subtle aspect of heavenly mechanisms; those with shallow foundations who encounter it will face endless misfortunes.
The fifteenth verse discusses the strength and decline of malevolent stars: malevolent stars and evil influences must also be considered in terms of their birth, prosperity, decline, and death. The seasons of spring, summer, autumn, and winter must be carefully calculated. If a malevolent star is currently in its prime and powerful, it should also be divided into those born during the day and those born at night to assess safety and danger. If the sun and moon, representing yin and yang, are inverted or misaligned, this is especially to be avoided, as it can shorten one's lifespan and plant the roots of misfortune. If a malevolent star called Yangren is also pressing down, it becomes even more terrifying, and how could such a life last for a hundred years? The sixteenth verse discusses the two palaces of Yin and Chou: if one's destiny is established in the palaces of Yin or Chou, the yin and yang are in a state of union, and it should be regarded as a difficult star. Those born at night should take the sun as their main influence, while those born during the day should take the moon as their main influence, both of which are considered unfavorable. If such a person also encounters a malevolent position, this period will be unstable and troubled. Even if they are seated on the position of a nobleman or a lucky star, their power will be reduced, and their fate will be bleak. If they are further surrounded by malevolent stars, the danger becomes even greater, and death may occur shortly after the major period begins, which is not unusual.
The seventeenth verse discusses the signs of a violent death: if one is a wicked person who dies an untimely death, often both the destiny palace and the body palace are afflicted byInauspicious Spirit (malevolent spirits). A煞星 (malevolent star) enters the destiny palace, and the destiny palace also falls into a凶地 (dangerous place). The sun and moon further press upon it, inevitably harming the body palace. It is even more dangerous if the煞神 (malevolent spirits) are flanking from both sides, transforming「刑囚」(punishment and imprisonment) into煞星 (malevolent stars) that take turns attacking. In such a case, the person will surely die by weapons, and their life will be like withered flowers scattered all over the ground. The eighteenth verse discusses the「空限」(empty limit): when a person enters the「空限」, there are no stars shining upon them, and the limit has no stars, so blessings cannot be generated. If the Heaven Plate combines and connects with the通关 (passage) position, and the煞神 (malevolent spirits) are attracted there, the煞神 (malevolent spirits) press upon the top, making this empty limit even harder to pass. It is not only poverty and frequent misfortunes (the original text is missing a character, which should be「凶」(misfortune)), but even land and property will flow away like water, leading to ruin. If the degree of this limit coincides with a place where heaven's fate is cut off, even if one survives by chance, they will be lonely and destitute.
The nineteenth verse discusses "Flying Light and Falling Shadow": evil stars are always afraid of being observed in the dark. What is called "Flying Light and Falling Shadow" refers to the initial signs they reveal. If one's destiny is exactly at this point, the officials of the underworld will immediately set a death limit. When the four remaining stars become evil stars, the harm is even greater (the original text has two missing characters, which should be "evil"), and if the movement of the stars is on the Black Path, calamity follows closely. When the five elements become malevolent stars, they should also be distinguished by their strength and weakness. Once they are restrained, the arrival of good fortune will be delayed. The twentieth verse discusses the sun and moon residing in the official fortune palace: when the sun and moon are both in the official fortune palace, and the star of the limit enters this palace, fortune is originally exceptionally abundant. However, if it reaches the degree between the two stars, when everything is going smoothly, death suddenly occurs, leaving everything empty. This does not even require the presence of malevolent stars or malevolent formations; as long as "punishment and captivity" transform into malevolent wheels that attack alternately, it is sufficient. To seek the true secret of overturning destiny limits, this one point is enough to shock even the old masters of star divination in the world.
Miscellaneous Discussion on Reversed Fate Limits
The degree of the limit should especially be cautious of malevolent stars directly shining upon it. For example, if this limit falls on a degree belonging to the earth element, it is undesirable for the actual Jupiter to be added, since wood overcomes earth, which weakens the host star of the limit; if a year's malevolent star adds further strength, it will reverse the limit, and the influence of the triple harmony position is especially accurate. The limit should also be cautious of conflicting stars: if the Mars is in front and the Bo star is at the back, it is a sign of great calamity. If Jiudu and Bo stars are one facing forward and one facing backward (the original text is missing characters, marked as '□', which should be a word like 'evil' or 'two'), it will definitely reverse the limit, and both the native palace and the triple harmony positions should be carefully examined. There are also cases where this limit originally has no stars sitting in it at birth, but is reversed by malevolent stars in the current year; there are also cases where the limit is reversed due to conflicting malevolent stars, for instance, fire and Bo, water and Jiudu, Jiudu and Bo, and Bo and Luo meeting, all will reverse the limit.
If a person's destiny is governed by a 'taboo' star, nine out of ten times it brings misfortune. Those born during the day have fire as their taboo, while those born at night have earth as their taboo; once these become malevolent stars, the calamities are severe. If the nayin sound element also meets the 'conflict' condition, there will certainly be serious disasters; when the destiny limit reaches this point and encounters a star that transforms into a malevolent force, death is certain. The star that serves as the destiny limit does not need to be considered for its transformation into other forces; however, the star that combines with the destiny limit should be examined for its transformation. If a malevolent star merely transforms into a 'force', the harm is still relatively light; but if it transforms into a malevolent celestial body, the consequences are particularly severe. If the Jupiter star transforms into a beneficial star, it brings great fortune; if it transforms into a malevolent star, it brings misfortune. If these stars repeatedly shine upon the命宫 (life palace) and the destiny limit, the injuries will come swiftly.
