Divination for Escape from Capture, Twelfth Section

逃捕占第十二 問逃問捕 以干為己，干上所乘之神將應己。以支為彼，支上所乘之神將應彼。以三傳為初中末，三傳所現之神將初中末應逃應捕。以格局為綱領，三傳四課所現之格局綱領應逃應捕。

Twelfth Chapter, Divination on Escape and Pursuit. First establish the general principles: the day stem represents the party being pursued, that is, the owner or the person being captured; the gods and generals riding on the day stem indicate our side's strength and timing. The day branch represents the fleeing party; the gods and generals riding on the day branch indicate the situation of the fugitive. Use the three transmissions to divide into the initial escape, concealment, and capture or escape. The gods and generals appearing in the three transmissions correspond sequentially to the initial escape, concealment, and capture or escape in three stages. Furthermore, use the lesson pattern to serve as the overall framework; the pattern formed by the three transmissions and four lessons governs the outcome of this pursuit. Below, we distinguish between 'asking about escape' (the whereabouts of the fugitive) and 'asking about capture' (matters concerning the pursuit), and use the useful god accordingly.

問逃 以逃人本命為逃，逃人本命與上乘下臨之神將應逃人，所臨之將應逃方。以類相為逃人，類相與所乘之神將應逃方。以馬煞為程途，馬九與所乘之神應程途，所臨之將應程期至期裡數。

To find the whereabouts of a missing person, take three useful gods. Use the person's birth year's earthly branch to represent the missing person, as this branch corresponds to his body. Look at the heavenly general on the position of his birth branch and the earthly god beneath it to determine whether he is safe or in danger, and whether he can hide or not. Then look at the position that the branch is on to determine the direction he is fleeing. Also, use the category of things to find the image of the missing person. Look at the branch of the category and the heavenly general it is riding on to determine the kind of place he is hiding in and the direction he is fleeing. Use the post-horse to represent the journey. The post-horse indicates movement; look at the post-horse and the heavenly general it is riding on to determine the route he is taking. Then look at the position that the post-horse is on to determine the time he left, the time he will arrive, and the distance he has already traveled.

問捕 以朱雀為呈詞為拘票為信息，朱雀與所乘之將應呈詞拘票信息，所臨之方應呈詞拘票信息期。以鬼煞為官，鬼煞與所乘之神應官，所臨之將應訊期。以寅為書吏，寅將與所乘之神應書吏。以勾陳為捕人，勾陳與所乘之將應捕人，所臨之將應捕期。 問逃問捕，視干支三傳占時本命所現神將，並應視神將一一詳其所屬何煞，並較所臨何煞，其干支等處所現神將仍與干支等處所現神將相較，更較其所現之格局，方可定其逃捕焉。

Special inquiry for capturing a fugitive involves taking four useful gods. The Vermilion Bird represents the complaint submitted, the arrest warrant issued by the authorities, and messages received from various places — the Vermilion Bird governs official documents and information. Observe the Vermilion Bird and the general it rides with to determine whether the complaint is properly handled, whether the arrest warrant can be issued, and whether there is certainty. Then look at the direction it is located in to determine the dates of submitting the complaint, issuing the warrant, and receiving the message. The ghost and evil spirits represent the official in charge of the case; observe the ghost and evil spirits and the general they ride with to determine whether the authorities are making an effort. Then look at the position it is located in to determine the date of interrogation. The寅 represents the clerk handling the case; observe the general at the寅 position and the god it rides with to determine whether the clerk is willing to exert effort. The Gou Chen represents the officers responsible for the arrest — Gou Chen governs arrest and connection; observe the Gou Chen and the general it rides with to determine whether the officers can successfully capture the fugitive; then look at the position it is located in to determine the date of capture. General method of judgment: For inquiries about escape or capture, one must examine the day stem, day branch, three transmissions, the time of divination, and the native's destiny, and the gods and generals appearing in all these places, along with the aforementioned useful gods, and analyze each one to determine which type of god or spirit it belongs to. Then compare the type of god or spirit it is located in. The gods and generals appearing in the heavenly stems and earthly branches should also be compared with each other. Finally, consider the resulting pattern to determine whether the fugitive can escape or whether the captors can successfully capture him.
