《乾》剛《坤》柔,《比》樂《師》憂;《臨》《觀》之義,或與或求。《屯》見而不失其居。《蒙》雜而著。《震》,起也。《艮》,止也。《損》、《益》盛衰之始也。《大畜》,時也。《無妄》,災也。《萃》聚而《升》不來也。《謙》輕而《豫》怠也。《噬嗑》,食也。《賁》,無色也。《兌》見而《巽》伏也。《隨》無故也。《蠱》則飭也。《剝》,爛也。《復》,反也。
The "Zagua Zhuan" does not follow the order of the "Xugua," but instead pairs the sixty-four hexagrams in a mixed manner, each with one or two words to indicate their meaning. It says: "Qian" represents strength and vigor, "Kun" represents softness and compliance; "Bi" brings joy from mutual support, while "Shi" brings worry from military campaigns. The difference between "Lin" and "Guan" is that the former is one who governs from above, giving out, while the latter is one who looks up from below, seeking something. "Zun" is the initial emergence without losing its place, while "Meng" is confusion and disorder that will eventually become clear. "Zhen" is a sudden rise, while "Gen" is stillness. "Sun" and "Yi" mark the beginning of decline turning into growth and growth turning into decline. "Da Xu" discusses waiting for the right time to act, while "Wu Wang" discusses unexpected calamities. "Cui" is gathering at the lower level, while "Sheng" is rising without returning. "Qian" is humility without self-importance, while "Yu" is ease leading to laziness. "Shi He" discusses eating, while "Ben" discusses the extreme of ornamentation returning to plainness. "Dui" is outward expression, while "Xun" is inward concealment. "Sui" is following others without fixed principles, while "Gu" is rectifying accumulated evils. "Bo" is decay and rot, while "Fu" is returning to life.

The hexagram "Jin" represents daylight and brightness, while "Mingyi" signifies brightness being harmed. "Jing" represents a well that provides sustenance, whereas "Kun" signifies encountering difficulties and dangers. "Xian" represents quick response and mutual influence, while "Heng" signifies enduring steadfastly. "Huan" represents dispersion, and "Jie" signifies restraint. "Jie" represents relief, while "Jian" signifies hardship. "Kui" represents separation and a mind turning outward, whereas "Jiaoren" signifies harmony and a mind turning inward. "Po" and "Tai" are exactly opposite to each other. "Da Zhuang" represents reaching the peak of strength and thus needing to stop, while "Dun" signifies timely retreat. "Da You" represents having many possessions, whereas "Tongren" signifies being close to others. "Ge" represents removing the old, while "Ding" signifies adopting the new. "Xiao Guo" represents a slight excess, and "Zhong Fu" signifies sincerity in the heart. "Feng" represents many affairs, while "Lv" signifies few close relatives.
《離》上而《坎》下也。《小畜》,寡也。《履》,不處也。《需》,不進也。《訟》,不親也。《大過》,顛也。《姤》,遇也,柔遇剛也。《漸》,女歸待男行也。《頤》,養正也。《既濟》,定也。《歸妹》,女之終也。《未濟》,男之窮也。《夬》,決也,剛決柔也。君子道長,小人道憂也。
The Trigram Li represents the nature of fire, which ascends and burns. The Trigram Kan represents the nature of water, which flows downward and moistens. The hexagram Xiao Xu indicates that what is accumulated is still very little. The hexagram Lu means to walk without stopping, and to be unsettled in one's place. The hexagram Xu means to wait without advancing rashly. The hexagram Song means to engage in disputes without mutual affection. The hexagram Da Guo means that both the beginning and the end are weak, leading to collapse. The hexagram Gou means meeting, specifically a soft line meeting a strong line. The hexagram Jie means that a woman's marriage should await the proper ceremonial invitation from the man. The hexagram Yi means to nourish in a proper way. The hexagram Ji Ji means that each is in its proper place and thus is settled. The hexagram Gui Mei means that a woman has found her match, marking the completion of human relationships. The hexagram Wei Ji means that a man has not yet achieved his purpose and is in a desperate situation. The hexagram Gua means to decisively remove, specifically the strong line decisively eliminating the weak line. The entire book concludes with this: the way of the superior man grows day by day, while the way of the petty man gradually becomes anxious and declines.
