Official and Killing Stars: Five, the Pattern of Mixed Official and Killing Stars

壬辰　壬子　丙寅　癸巳【癸丑　甲寅　乙卯　丙辰　丁巳　戊午】此造壬癸當權，殺官重疊，最喜日坐長生，寅能納水，化殺生身，時歸祿旺，足以敵官；更妙無金，印星得用，煞勢雖強，不足畏也。至丙運幫身，又逢己巳流年，去官之混，捷報南宮，出宰名區。

Four pillars: Renchen, Renzi, Bingyin, Guisi; Grand Destiny: Guichou, Jiayin, Yimao, Bingchen, Dingsi, Wuwu. In this case, the water of Ren and Gui is in power, with seven killers and the official star appearing repeatedly. Most fortunate is the day stem sitting on the position of growth, with the寅 wood able to receive the water's energy, transforming the killer into a beneficial force for the self; the hour branch also returns to the position of strength, sufficient to counteract the official star. Even more favorable is the absence of metal to generate water in the chart, allowing the official star to be used effectively. Although the killer force is strong, it is no longer a cause for concern. When the丙 cycle comes, it supports the day stem, and with theJisi flow year removing the confusion of the official star, the news of success in the southern examination hall arrives, leading to an appointment to govern a famous region.

甲子　乙亥　己巳　丁卯【丙子　丁丑　戊寅　己卯　庚辰　辛巳】此造官遇長生，殺逢祿旺，巳亥雖沖破印，喜印木仍能生火，寅運合亥，化木生印，連登甲榜。庚辰辛巳制官服煞，失幡皂蓋，出守大郡，名利兩優。

The four pillars are Jiazi, Yihai, Jisi, and Dingmao; the big years are Bingzi, Dingchou, Wuyin, Jimao, Gengchen, and Xinsi. In this case, the official star meets the growth position, and the seven deadly stars meet the strong and prosperous position. The Si and Hai branches clash, though this breaks the印 (nourishing element) under the day's stem, but it is fortunate that wood still can nourish fire, so the nourishing energy continues. The Yin year combines with Hai, transforming into wood to nourish fire and the nourishing element, thus achieving consecutive success in the imperial examination. In the Gengchen and Xinsi years, metal comes to control the official star and subdue the deadly stars, allowing for establishing banners and governing major cities abroad, with both fame and profit being abundant.

丙辰　丁酉　庚午　戊寅【戊戌　己亥　庚子　辛丑　壬寅　癸卯】此造殺逢生，官得祿，喜其秋金秉令，更妙辰土洩火生金，不失中和之象；尤喜運走北方水地。庚子運沖去官根，鹿鳴方宴飲，雁塔又題名；辛丑壬寅運，橫琴而歌解慍，遊刃而賦烹鮮。

Four pillars: Bingchen, Dingyou, Gengwu, Wuyin; major years: Wuxu, Jihai, Gengzi, Xinchou, Rennyin, Guimao. In this case, the seven deadly enemies meet Yin wood which generates them, and the official star is also strong at Wu, where it gets its fortune. Both official and deadly enemies have strength. Fortunately, the day's ruler is strong in autumn when metal is in command, and even more so because Chen earth can release fire and generate metal, maintaining a balanced and harmonious situation. Especially commendable is the journey through the northern water regions, which controls the official and deadly enemies. In the Gengzi major year, the official star's root at Wu is destroyed by the clash, and after finishing the local examination and the Lu Ming banquet, the name is also inscribed on the pagoda (passing the imperial examination with ease). In the Xinchou and Rennyin major years, he plays the zither and sings to ease the people's grievances, governing with ease like a butcher cutting meat or cooking a small fish.

戊午　己未　壬申　辛亥【庚申　辛酉　壬戌　癸亥　甲子　乙丑】此造官殺並旺當令，喜日坐長生，時逢祿旺，足以敵官擋殺。坐下印綬，引通財殺之氣，運走西北金水之鄉。所以少年科甲，裕經綸於管庫，人推黼黻之工，乘撫宇於催科，世讓文章之煥。

Four pillars: Wuwu, Jiwei, Renshen, Xinhai; Great Destiny: Gengshen, Xinyou, Renxu, Guihai, Jiazi, Yichou. In this case, the official star and the seven deadly stars are both strong and in season, which is favorable. The day master sits on the position of growth, and the hour pillar also meets the position of strength, which is sufficient to resist the official stars and block the seven deadly stars. The metal印star in the position of the day master can channel the wealth and deadly star energies. The destiny path also moves towards the northwest region of metal and water. Therefore, this person achieved success in the imperial examination at a young age, and was able to display his talents in administrative positions, earning praise for his literary skills. In roles involving tax collection and local governance, he was able to handle affairs with ease, and was widely recognized for his literary achievements.

任氏曰：官殺混雜者，富貴甚多。總之殺官當令者，必要坐下印綬，則其殺官之氣流通，生化有情：或氣貫生時，亦足以扶身敵殺。若不氣貫生時，又不坐下印綬，不貧亦賤。如殺官不當令者，不作此論也。

Ren Tieqiao said: There are actually many cases where a person with both official and seven killer stars can still achieve wealth and status. In general, for a birth chart with seven killer and official stars in command, the day's stem must have a seal star beneath it, so that the energy of the seven killer and official stars can flow and transform harmoniously. Alternatively, if the day's stem energy reaches the time column (the person is born in a favorable position), it is sufficient to support the self and resist the seven killer stars. If neither of these conditions is met, then the person will either be poor or of low status. As for birth charts where the official and seven killer stars are not in command, they are not judged according to this principle.

辛卯　戊戌　丙辰　己亥【丁酉　丙申　乙未　甲午　癸巳　壬辰】時逢獨殺，四食相制，年支卯木被辛金蓋頭，況秋木本不足疏土，所賴亥中甲木衛殺，至乙未運暗會木局，捷報南宮，名高翰苑：甲午運木死於午，合已化土，丁外艱；已巳年又沖去亥水，不祿。

Four Pillars: Xinmao, Wuxu, Bingchen, Jihai; Grand Years: Dingyou, Bingshen, Yiwei, Jiawu, Guisi, Renchen. The亥 branch in the hour position contains the only seven killer (seven deadly), but there are four heavy earth elements to restrain it, which is excessive restraint. The卯 wood in the year branch could normally loosen the earth and protect the killer, but it is covered by Xin metal; moreover, in autumn the wood is not strong enough to loosen the thick earth, so the only reliance is on the hidden甲 wood in亥 to protect the seven killer. When entering the Yiwei Grand Year, it forms a hidden wood trinity, and the news of the examination (Southern Palace) comes in, ranking in the Hanlin Academy with high reputation. In the Jiawu Grand Year, the甲 wood dies in the午 position, and combines with己 earth to form earth, leading to the father's death. In the Guisi flowing year, the亥 water is again冲 by the year, resulting in death.

辛卯　戊戌　丙辰　壬辰【丁酉　丙申　乙未　甲午　癸巳　壬辰】此亦一殺逢四制，所不及前造者，無亥卯之會也。雖早采芹香，以致蹭蹬秋闈納捐矚，仁路亦不能通達。喜時殺透露，行甲午運，無化土之患，然猶刑耗多端，而己身無咎。

Four pillars: Xinmao, Wuxu, Bingchen, Renchen; Grand Destiny: Dingyou, Bingshen, Yiwei, Jiawu, Guisi, Renchen. This case also involves a seven killer (seven deadly) being restrained by four forces, but the difference from the previous case is that there is no亥卯 (Hai Mao) conjunction to support the killer. Although this person passed the local examination (became a scholar) at an early age, he failed to pass the provincial examination (xiucai) in the autumn examination, and had to pay money to become an official, thus his career path was not smooth. Fortunately, the heavenly stem of the hour isRen Water (Ren Water), the seven killer clearly appears on the heavenly stem, so during the Jiawu Grand Destiny, there was no danger of the seven killer combining with the earth to form soil. Although various injuries, damages, and losses continued, he himself remained safe and unharmed.

壬辰　丙午　丙午　壬辰【丁未　戊申　乙酉　庚戌　辛亥　壬子】此殺逢四制，柱中印雖不見，喜其殺透食藏，通根身庫。總之夏火當權，水無金滋。至酉運，合去辰土，財星滋殺，發甲點中書；庚運仁版連登，入參軍機；戌運，燥土沖動壬水之根，又逢戊土透出，緊制壬水，不祿。

Four pillars: Renchen, Bingwu, Bingwu, Renchen; big years: Dingwei, Wushen, Yiyou, Gengxu, Xinhai, Renzi. In this case, the seven killing stars are restrained by four forces. Although the birth chart does not show the presence of the nurturing star, it is fortunate that the seven killing stars appear in the heavenly stem while the food god is hidden in the earthly branches. The壬water is also rooted in the辰water reservoir. Overall, summer fire is dominant, but water lacks metal to nourish it. When the酉year comes, the酉and辰combine, which restrains the辰soil. Metal acts as the wealth star to nourish the seven killing stars, thus achieving the first class examination and being appointed as a middle council official. In the Geng year, the official rank keeps rising, and he enters the military council. When the Xu year comes, the dry earth disturbs the root of the壬water, and when the Wu earth appears in the heavenly stem, it tightly restrains the壬water, leading to his death.

甲寅　戊辰　壬辰　壬寅【己巳　庚午　辛未　壬申　癸酉　甲戌】此造五殺逢五制，土雖當權，木亦雄壯，幸日主兩坐庫根，又得比肩匡扶。壬申運，日主逢生，沖去寅木，名登桂籍，雁塔高標；接連癸酉二十年，由縣令履黃堂。名利裕如。

Four Pillars: Jiayin, Wuchen, Renchen, Renyin; Great Years: Jisi, Gengwu, Xinwei, Renshen, Guiyou, Jiaxu. In this case, the seven deadly enemies (Wutu soil) have five parts of strength, and the wood that controls the deadly enemies also has five parts. Although the soil is dominant, the wood is also strong. Fortunately, the day's main element sits twice on the Chen water reservoir root, and gets support from the same heavenly stem in the hour. In the Renshen Great Year, the day's main element meets the growth, and the Sheng metal clashes with the Yin wood, which is one of the controlling forces against the deadly enemies. Thus, he achieved success in the imperial examinations and was promoted to high office, with both reputation and wealth. In the next twenty years of Guiyou, he rose from county magistrate to prefect, with both fame and fortune abundant.

庚申　戊寅　戊寅　庚申【己卯　庚辰　辛巳　壬午　癸未　甲申】此兩殺逢四制，幸春木得時乘令，克不盡絕。至午運，補土之不足，去金之有餘，登科擢縣令；至甲申支，又逢食制，死於軍功。

Four pillars: Gengshen, Wuyin, Wuyin, Gengshen; great years: Jimao, Gengchen, Xinsi, Renwu, Guiwei, Jiashen. In this chart, two seven killers (the methyl wood in Yin) are restrained by four heavy metals. Fortunately, the spring wood is in its season and has the right timing, so although it is being overcome, it does not become cut off. When the year of Wu comes, fire replenishes the deficiency of earth and removes the excess of metal, thus he passes the imperial examination and is appointed as county magistrate. When the year of Jiashen comes, the branch of Shen metal is again a place where the food god restrains the killer, and the person dies while serving in a military position.

任氏曰：與其制殺太過，不若官殺混雜之美也。何也？蓋制殺太過，殺既傷殘，再行制煞之運，九死一生。官殺混雜，只要日主坐旺，印綬不傷，運程安頓，未有不富貴者也。如日主休囚，財星壞印，即使獨殺純清，一官不混，往往憂多樂少，屈志難伸。學者宜審焉。

Ren Tieqiao said: It is better to have a mixture of official and seven killing stars than to have excessive control over the seven killing stars. Why? Because a destiny with excessive control over the seven killing stars will have the seven killing stars already damaged and weakened. If such a person encounters a period of further control over the seven killing stars, they will face a very dangerous situation. However, for a destiny with a mixture of official and seven killing stars, as long as the day master is strong, the nourishing star is not harmed, and the fortune is properly arranged, there is no failure in achieving wealth and honor. On the contrary, if the day master is weak and the wealth star damages the nourishing star, even if the seven killing star is pure and clear and there is only one official star, the person will often have more worries than joys, their ambitions will be suppressed and difficult to realize. Those who study destiny should carefully examine and distinguish these points.

傷官見官果難辨，可見不可見。 原注：身弱而傷官旺者，見印而可見官；身旺而傷官旺者，見財而不見官。傷官旺，財神輕，有比劫而可見官；日主旺，傷官輕，無印綬而可見官。傷官旺而無財，一遇官而有禍；傷官旺而身弱，一見官而有禍；傷官弱而財輕，一見官而有禍；傷官弱而見印，一見官而有禍。大率傷官有財，皆可見官；傷官無財，皆不可見宮。又要看身強身弱，何財官、印綬、比肩不同方可，不必分金、木、火、土也。又曰：傷官用印，無財不宜見財；傷官用財，無印不宜見印，須詳辨之。

The concept of "Wounding Official" (Shang Gan Jian Guan) is difficult to categorize as either auspicious or inauspicious. Some cases allow the appearance of the official star, while others do not. The original commentary states: if the day ruler is weak and the "Wounding Official" is strong, then the presence of the "Seal Star" (Yin Shou) allows the official star to appear. If the day ruler is strong and the Wounding Official is also strong, then the presence of the "Wealth Star" (Cai Xing) means the official star does not need to appear. When the Wounding Official is strong and the Wealth Star is weak, the presence of "Competition and Assistance" (Bi Jie) can allow the official star to appear. If the day ruler is strong and the Wounding Official is weak, and there is no Seal Star, the official star can still appear. Conversely, if the Wounding Official is strong but there is no Wealth Star, encountering the official star brings misfortune. If the Wounding Official is weak and the Wealth Star is also weak, encountering the official star brings misfortune. If the Wounding Official is weak and there is a Seal Star, encountering the official star also brings misfortune. In general, in a Wounding Official pattern with Wealth Star, the official star can appear. In a Wounding Official pattern without Wealth Star, the official star should not appear. Additionally, one must consider the strength of the day ruler, the type of Wealth, Official, Seal Star, and Competition and Assistance, as each case is different and requires careful judgment. It is not necessary to distinguish between metal Wounding Official, wood Wounding Official, fire Wounding Official, or earth Wounding Official. It also says: in cases where the Wounding Official uses the Seal Star, if there is no Wealth Star in the chart, it is not advisable to encounter the Wealth Star. In cases where the Wounding Official uses the Wealth Star, if there is no Seal Star in the chart, it is not advisable to encounter the Seal Star. These points must be carefully distinguished.

任氏曰：傷官者，竊命主之元神，既非善良，傷日干之貴氣，更肆縱橫。然善惡無常，但須駕馭，而英華發外，多主聰明。若見官之可否，須就原局權衡，其間作用，種種不同，不可執一而論也。

Ren Shi explained: The "Wang Guan" is a divine evil that steals the origin god of the day stem, and it is inherently not a benevolent force. It also damages the noble quality of the day stem, acting recklessly and beyond control. However, the nature of Wang Guan is not fixed as good or evil. If properly guided, it can allow the essence of the day stem to radiate outward, indicating that the person is intelligent and talented. As for whether the Wang Guan pattern can see the official star, it must be judged based on the overall structure of the original chart. There are various methods of selection and use, and one should not make a conclusion based on a single perspective.

有傷官用印，傷官用財，傷官用劫，傷官用傷，傷官用官。若傷官用財者，日主旺，傷官亦旺，宜用財；有比劫而可見官，無比劫有印綬，不可見官。日主弱，傷官旺，宜用印，可見官而不可見財；日主弱，傷官旺，無印綬，宜用比劫，喜見劫印，忌見財官。日主旺，無財官，宜用傷官，喜見財傷，忌見官印；日主旺，比劫多，財星衰，傷官輕，宜用官，喜見財官，忌見傷印。

There are five methods of using the official star in the context of the official star: "official star uses seal," "official star uses wealth," "official star uses same kind," "official star uses official star," and "official star uses authority." If the official star uses wealth: if the day master is strong and the official star is also strong, wealth star should be used; at this time, if there are same kind stars to protect, then authority star can be seen, but if there are no same kind stars and there is a seal star, then authority star should not be seen. If the day master is weak and the official star is strong, then the seal star should be used; in this case, authority star can be seen but wealth star should not be seen. If the day master is weak, the official star is strong, and there is no seal star, then same kind stars should be used to support the day master; in this case, same kind stars and seal stars are favorable, while wealth star and authority star are unfavorable. If the day master is strong and there is no wealth star or authority star in the four pillars, then the official star should be used to release its elegance; in this case, wealth star and official star are favorable, while authority star and seal star are unfavorable. If the day master is strong, there are many same kind stars, the wealth star is weak, and the official star is light, then the authority star should be used to control the same kind stars; in this case, wealth star and authority star are favorable, while official star and seal star are unfavorable.

所謂“傷官見官，為禍百端”者，皆日主衰弱，用比劫幫身，見官則比劫受克，所以有禍。若局中有印，見官不但無禍，而且有福也。傷官用印，局內無財，運行印旺身旺之鄉，未有不顯貴者也；運行財旺傷旺之鄉，未有不貧賤者也。傷官用財，財星得氣，運逢財旺傷旺之鄉，未有不富厚者也；運逢印旺劫旺之地，未有不貧乏者也。傷官用劫，運逢印旺必貴；官民用官，運逢財旺必富；傷官用傷，運遇財鄉，富而且貴。與用印用財者，不過官有高卑，財分厚薄耳。宜細推之：

The ancient saying "Wounding official meets official, causing calamity in all directions" refers to those命 (destinies) where the day master is weak and needs a helper, such as a same-element helper (比劫). When an official star appears, it will harm the same-element helper, thus causing misfortune. If the original chart already has a seal (印绶), which can be generated by the official star and protect the day master, then the appearance of an official star does not bring misfortune, but rather fortune. For those with a wounding official (伤官) using a seal (印), and without wealth (财) in the chart, when the fortune moves to a place where the seal is strong and the day master is strong, they will certainly achieve high status; when the fortune moves to a place where wealth is strong and the wounding official is strong, they will certainly be poor and lowly. For those with a wounding official using wealth, and the wealth star is strong, when the fortune moves to a place where wealth is strong and the wounding official is strong, they will certainly be rich and prosperous; when the fortune moves to a place where the seal is strong and the same-element helper is strong, they will certainly be poor. For those with a wounding official using a same-element helper, when the fortune moves to a place where the seal is strong, they will certainly achieve high status; for those with a wounding official using an official star, when the fortune moves to a place where wealth is strong, they will certainly be rich; for those with a wounding official using a wounding official, when the fortune moves to a place with wealth, they will be both rich and noble. Compared to those using a seal or wealth, these differences are only in the level of official position and the thickness of wealth. Scholars should carefully examine and understand these distinctions.

一曰傷官用印格 己丑 辛未 丙寅 己丑 庚午 己巳 戊辰 丁卯 丙寅 乙丑 火土傷官重疊，幸在季夏，火氣有餘，又日坐長生，寅中甲木為用。至丁卯運，克去辛金，破其丑土，所謂有病得藥，騰身而登月殿，慶集瓊林；接運丙寅，體用皆宜，仕至黃堂。

The first type is called "Wounding Official Using Seal Pattern." The birth chart is: year Jichou, month Xinwei, day Bingyin, hour Jichou; the big years are Gengwu, Jisi, Wuchen, Dingmao, Bingyin, Yichou. In this case, there is a heavy accumulation of fire and earth wounding officials. Fortunately, the birth occurs in the late summer month of Wei, where the fire still has some strength. Also, the day branch is located in Yin, which is the place of growth for Bing fire. Therefore, the wood in Yin is taken as the useful god. When the Dingmao big year comes, the Ding fire overcomes the month's dry gold wealth star, and the Mao wood breaks the Chou earth wounding official. This is exactly what is called "a sick person gets the medicine." Thus, one suddenly rises to the moon palace, celebrates at the jade forest banquet, passes the imperial examination, and attends the jade forest banquet. Then, when entering the Bingyin big year, both the body (day master) and the useful god (seal) are in harmony, and the official position reaches the level of a prefectural governor.

辛酉 丁酉 戊午 辛酉 丙申 乙未 甲午 癸巳 壬辰 辛卯 此土金傷官重疊，喜其四柱無財，純清氣象。初運木火體用皆宜，所以壯歲首登龍虎榜，少年身到鳳凰池。惜中運癸巳壬辰，金生火克，所以生平志節從何訴，半世勤勞只自憐。

The birth chart is: year Xin You, month Ding You, day Wu Wu, hour Xin You; the major years are Bing Shen, Yi Wei, Jiawu, Guisi, Renchen, and Xinmao. In this chart, there is a heavy accumulation of earth and metal, which is a type of injurious official. Fortunately, there is no wealth star in the four pillars, creating a pure and clear atmosphere. At first, when the wood and fire years come, the body (day master) and the use (scholarly support) are both suitable, so in his prime he passed the "Longhu Bang" examination and in his youth he reached the "Fenghuang Chi" (a term for high official posts), entering the Han Yuan (imperial academy) and holding a position close to the emperor. Unfortunately, in the middle years, when the years Guisi and Renchen come, the metal turns into water and the water then overcomes the fire, causing the scholarly support to be harmed. Thus, "where can one express his lifelong aspirations? Half a lifetime of hard work is only for self-pity" — his ambitions have nowhere to be expressed, and his life of toil is only for self-pity.

壬戌 壬子 庚辰 己卯 癸丑 甲寅 乙卯 丙辰 丁巳 戊午 此金水傷官當令，喜支藏暖土，足以砥定中流。因時財為病，兼之初運水木，以致書香不繼；至三旬外，運逢火土，異路出身，仕至州牧；午運衰神沖旺，臺省幾時無謫宦，郊亭今日倍離愁。

The birth chart is: year Renxu, month Renzi, day Gengchen, hour Jimao; major years Guichou, Jiayin, Yimao, Bingchen, Dingsi, Wuwu. In this case, the metal and water official stars are in the correct position of the month, which is favorable. However, the earth branch contains warm earth (the Wu earth in Xu and the Wu earth in Chen), which acts as a pillar to control the overflowing water. The problem arises because the wood branch at the hour, which represents wealth, becomes a harmful element. Combined with the initial years of water and wood, it hinders academic success and official rank. After the age of thirty, when the fortune moves into fire and earth, it allows for a career through alternative means, achieving a position as a state governor. However, when the Wu fire year comes, the weak fire element conflicts with the strong water element of the month, leading to a situation where one is inevitably demoted and resigns with sorrow.

丙辰 癸巳 乙丑 丙子 甲午 乙未 丙申 丁酉 戊戌 此木火傷官，印綬通奶祿支，格局未嘗不美。雖嫌財星壞屯，而丑辰皆溼土，能蓄水晦火。惜乎運途無水，以致一介寒儒，至申運火絕水生，名列泮宮，後九赴秋闈不捷。

The native's birth chart is: year Bingchen, month Guisi, day Yiwei, hour Bingzi; the major years are Jiawu, Yiwei, Bingshen, Dingyou, Wuxu. This chart has wood and fire as the official stars, and the癸water official is rooted in the hour's Zi branch, which is its禄. The overall pattern is not without merit. Although there is a concern that the earth (wealth) star has damaged the water official, it is fortunate that the Chou and Chen earth are moist earth, which can retain water and obscure fire, thus not helping fire to harm the body. Unfortunately, the native's fortune has never encountered a water element, leading to a life as a poor scholar. It was not until the Shen year that fire reached its end and water began to grow, allowing the native to pass the local examination and become a scholar. After that, the native took the autumn examination nine times but failed to pass.

二曰傷官用財格 丙申 戊戌 丁卯 乙巳 乙亥 庚子 辛丑 壬寅 癸卯 甲辰 此火土傷官，劫印重疊，旺可知矣，以申金財星為用。遺業本豐，辛丑壬運，經營獲利，發財十餘萬；至寅運，金臨絕地，劫遇長生，又寅申沖破，所謂“旺者沖衰衰者拔”，不祿宜矣。

The second type is called "Wang Guan Yong Cai Ge." The birth chart is: year Bing Shen, month Wu Xu, day Ding Mao, hour Yi Si; the big years are Yi Hai, Geng Zi, Xin Chou, Ren Yin, Gui Mao, Ji Chen. This chart has fire and earth as the official and minister, with rivals and the seal of the teacher appearing repeatedly. The day's ruler is obviously strong, so the year's branch, Shen metal, is taken as the useful element. The ancestors left a wealthy legacy, and during the Xin Chou and Ren years, there was business success and earnings of over ten thousand. However, during the Yin year, the Shen metal wealth star was in the absolute decline, while the劫财 in Si was in the growth stage, and there was also a conflict between Yin and Shen, which broke the situation. This exactly matches the saying, "When the strong element conflicts with the weak, the weak becomes even weaker." Therefore, the person's death in old age was inevitable.
