Charting guides: BaZi Chart Calculator

Heavenly Stems fighting are still manageable, but Earthly Branches fighting are urgent and fierce like a raging fire. The original commentary says: when Heavenly Stems such as Geng, Yi, and Xin appear, which are mutually controlling or harmonizing, it is called "Heavenly War." As long as the Earthly Branches are smoothly generating each other, there is no great harm. When Earthly Branches such as Yin and Shen clash, or Mao and You clash, it is called "Earthly War." At this time, the Heavenly Stems are powerless. Earthly War comes quickly and is dangerous, because Heaven is active and Earth is still. When both Heaven and Earth are in conflict, it is called "Heaven and Earth War," which is certainly dangerous. If a favorable year or fortune comes to harmonize or combine with it, one should look at the strength of the harmonizing or combining forces. Sometimes it is possible to maintain the situation or even achieve success. If there is one or two clashes in the birth chart, as long as there is a strong harmonizing force, or a repository god or noble god to restrain the moving energy and calm the competing energy, it can turn into a favorable situation. As for the beneficial and essential gods that are hidden and located in dead or declining positions, they actually need to be stimulated to bring out the generating energy for use.

Ren explained: The energy of the heavenly stems is pure and concentrated; if the earthly branches are quiet, it is easy to control and resolve the situation, hence the saying "heavenly conflict can still be managed." However, the energy of the earthly branches is mixed and complicated; even if the heavenly stems are smooth and quiet, it is difficult to control and resolve, hence the saying "earthly conflict is as fierce as fire." The heavenly stems should be active rather than passive; only when they are active do they have function; being overly passive leads to isolation and concentration. The earthly branches should be passive rather than active; only when they are passive do they have function; once they are active, their foundation is destroyed. It is necessary to have harmonious and powerful elements that form a complete pattern, to calm the active energy, or have a storage element to contain the active element and stabilize the passive one, which is called "helping stillness in motion," transforming danger into good fortune. For example, the combinations of Jiayin with Gengshen, Yimao with Xinyou, Bingyin with Renshen, and Dingmao with Guiyou, where the heavenly stems and earthly branches are mutually conflicting, belong to a heaven-earth conflict. Even with harmonious and meeting elements, they cannot suppress the active energy, which comes quickly and is dangerous.

As for the common saying that 'two do not conflict with one,' this is a fallacy. When two Yins meet one Shen, one Yin is conflicting and the other remains; if two Shens meet one Yin, even if it is said that there is no conflict, since metal is abundant and wood is scarce, it will still be able to completely overcome the wood. Therefore, in the heavenly stems, we speak of 'overcoming,' and in the earthly branches, we speak of 'conflict.' Conflict is actually a form of overcoming, which is an obvious truth, so what is there to doubt? As for the useful god being hidden or being combined, and there being no other god in the chart to bring it out, it is actually appropriate to use conflict to stimulate it into action. This shows that 'combination' has appropriate and inappropriate situations, and 'conflict' also has appropriate and inappropriate situations, and must be thoroughly examined.

Four pillars: Guiyou year, Yimao month, Dingwei day, Xinhai hour; the big years in order are Jiayin, Guichou, Renzi, Xinhai, Gengxu, Jiyou. This is Li Dusishi's birth chart. The Ding fire is born in the middle spring month of Yimao, with the earth branches Hai, Mao, and Wei forming a triple harmony of wood. The Gui water is sitting on You metal, which seems like 'wealth star nourishing a weak seven killer' and also a good pattern of 'killer and印star mutually generating'. However, the Mao and You branches are in opposition, breaking the印star structure. The heavenly stems Yi wood and Xin metal are in conflict, damaging the origin god of the印star. Thus, the wealth star and seven killer become unrestrained. When arriving at the Xinhai big year and encountering Renzi stream year, the wealth star and killer star appear again, leading to a violation of the law and punishment.

Four Pillars: Guiyou year, Xinyou month, Yimao day, Jimao hour; the big years in order are Gengshen, Jiwei, Wuwu, Dingsi, Bingchen, Yimao. The heavenly stems are arranged as Yi, Xin, Ji, Gui, and the earthly branches have two Mao and two You. The metal is sharp and strong, while the wood is weakened and damaged. The heavenly stems and earthly branches are in conflict. Metal is in its prime season, yet there is Ji soil to generate it. Wood is in a weak and confined position, and Gui water is also unable to generate and support it. In the middle years, the big year moves to the south, and the fire element can control the seven deadly enemies, so he rises from an unusual background to become a county magistrate. When he reaches the Chen big year, the Chen soil generates metal and supports the seven deadly enemies, and he eventually breaks the law.

Four pillars: Renshen year, Renyin month, Renwu day, Jiachen hour; the big luck sequence is Guimao, Jiachen, Yisi, Bingwu, Dingwei, Wushen. The壬water is born in the寅month, with both the year and month dry branches showing the same壬water, which is a companion. The year's dry branch壬water sits on申metal and meets the growth stage, indicating the water has a source. Moreover, in early spring the wood is still weak and tender, and encountering the寅and申 opposition seems not favorable. However, the day's stem sits on午fire, which can dispel the spring cold, allowing the wood to grow and the metal to be restrained. It is even more favorable that the hour's dry branch shows甲wood, with the origin god revealed, and the water in the sky has a destination. When the luck moves through wood, there is a harmonious relationship, and no conflict arises. Therefore, he succeeded in the imperial examination and was appointed as a county magistrate in a famous area; when he reached the申luck, the two申met and opposed the寅wood, leading to his death.

Four Pillars: Renshen year, Renyin month, Renshen day, Xinchou hour; the big years in order are Guimao, Jiachen, Yisi, Bingwu, Dingwei, Wushen. There are three Renshen in the heavenly stems and two Shens in the earthly branches. In early spring, the wood is still weak and cannot withstand the conflict between the two Shens on either side. Among the Five Phases, there is no fire, so there is no controlling or resolving force. It is even worse that Chou is a damp earth which gives birth to metal, which is called the "appearance of turbid qi and withered spirit." In the early years Guimao and Jiachen, there is some compensation for the lack of wood, and there is still some surplus from the ancestors' blessings. In the Yisi year, there are both conflicts and clashes, leading to punishment, loss, and family decline. In the Bingwu year, there is competition for wealth, and since there is no wood in the heavenly stems to resolve it, the family eventually breaks down and the person dies.

Four pillars: born in the year of Yihai, month of Xinsi, day of Wushen, and hour of Jiayin; the big years in order are Gengchen, Jimao, Wuyin, Dingchou, Bingzi, and Yihai. The heavenly stems are Yi, Xin, Ji, and Wu, while the earthly branches are Yin, Shen, Si, and Hai, which are all in the four generative positions and mutually conflict, indicating a struggle between heaven and earth, which seems unfavorable. However, it is fortunate that the heavenly stems Yi and Xin mutually control each other, removing the official star and avoiding confusion between official and killer stars. The earthly branches Yin and Shen conflict, restraining the excessive power of the killer star. The conflict between Si and Hai damages the official star, which is generally not good. Fortunately, the person was born ten days after the beginning of summer, when Wu earth is in command, so the Hai water is restrained and the Si fire is not harmed. In the middle years, the wood and fire in the big years support the official star and strengthen the day stem, leading to successive success in the imperial examinations and holding a high official position. When reaching the Yihai big year, the Hai water is supported, which generates the killer star and harms the official star, leading to death.

Four pillars: born in the year of Yihai, in the month of Xinsi, on the day of Jiazi, and at the hour of Gengwu; the big years in order are Gengchen, Jimao, Wuyin, Dingchou, Bingzi, and Yihai. The heavenly stems Jia, Yi, Geng, and Xin are all present, while the earthly branches Si and Hai are in opposition, and Zi and Wu are also in opposition, indicating a conflict between heaven and earth. In the chart, fire is strong and water is weak. The birth star (印绶) is not necessarily happy to have officials and killers (官杀) to generate it. But it is unknown that Geng and Xin are sitting on the fire branches Si and Wu, and have nothing to do with the water branches Hai and Zi. This is exactly what is called "control and drain" (克泄交加). Moreover, the destiny path does not reach the water element, leading to frequent injuries, losses, and destruction. It results in the death of three wives and four sons. When entering the Dingchou big year, the Zi water is combined, which also obscures the fire and generates metal, leading to no success and eventual death.

Six Relations Theory · Nineteen, Harmonious Combination

"HE" has both suitable and unsuitable aspects. Too much "HE" is not unusual. Original note: The favorable deities rely on "HE" to assist them. For example, if the favorable deity is Geng metal, then Yi wood combining with it helps the metal. The unfavorable deities rely on "HE" to eliminate them. For example, if the unfavorable deity is Jia wood, then Ji earth combining with it can restrain it. The dynamic structure relies on "HE" to make it calm. For example, Jia wood born in the month of Hai, when Yin and Hai combine to form the structure, this belongs to this category. If the combination promotes the unfavorable deity, such as Ji earth being the unfavorable deity and Jia wood combining with it instead strengthens the earth's power; if the combination hinders the favorable deity, such as Yi wood being the favorable deity and Geng metal combining with it becomes a hindrance; if the combination blocks the dynamic structure, such as Chou earth being the favorable deity and being blocked by adjacent branches, it becomes blocked. Another example is when one does not favor Jia wood, but Yin and Hai combining instead strengthens the wood's power. These all belong to the unsuitable cases. Generally, too much "HE" leads to stagnation and lack of vitality. Even if there is refined energy, it cannot be considered unique.

Ren Shi explained: It is good when things combine, but the best is when the favorable elements combine harmoniously. When the disliked elements combine, it is even more dangerous than a conflict. Why is that? After a conflict, if a harmonious combination comes to calm it, it is easier to resolve. But after a harmonious combination, if a conflict is needed to break it, it is more difficult. Therefore, the best situation is when the favorable elements are supported by harmonious combinations, for example, if the庚 metal is the favorable element, the乙 wood combines with it to support it. The idle elements and harmful elements can also be transformed into favorable elements through harmonious combinations, for example, the癸 water is a harmful element and the戊 soil is an idle element, and their combination transforms into fire, becoming a favorable element. Similarly, the idle element壬 water and the disliked element丁 fire combine to form wood, becoming a favorable element. Another example is the conflict between子 and午, where the favorable element is in午, and the丑 soil combines with子 water to neutralize it. Similarly, the conflict between寅 and申, where the favorable element is in寅, and the亥 water combines with寅 wood to neutralize it. These are all considered favorable situations.

As for the case where the Hostile God is strengthened by a harmonious combination, for example, if the earthy soil is considered the Hostile God and the wood of Jia combines with it, this combination strengthens the Hostile God. Another example is when the wood of Yi is considered a favorable god and the metal of Xin is considered an idle god; when the combination of Bing and Xin occurs, it turns into the Hostile God. There are also cases where an idle god combines with a Hostile God to form a malevolent god, such as when the water of Ren is considered an idle god and the fire of Ding is considered the Hostile God; the combination of Ding and Ren transforms into wood, resulting in a malevolent god. Another example is the conflict between卯 and酉; if the favorable god is in卯, but the earth of Chen combines with酉 metal, transforming the metal into something that instead harms the fire—these are all considered inappropriate. Generally speaking, only when the Hostile God is combined and transformed away is it considered truly removed, and only when the favorable god is combined and transformed into existence is it considered truly present. If the Hostile God combines but is not removed, it is not considered favorable; if the favorable god combines but is not properly transformed, it is not considered beneficial, but instead becomes a hindrance and a distraction, which is useless. What is meant by 'coming or not coming' is essentially 'being transformed or not being transformed,' and this should be carefully examined.

The four pillars are: Xinhai year, Gengyin month, Bingzi day, Yiwei hour. The big years in order are Jichou, Wuzi, Dinghai, Bingxu, Yiyou, Jiashen. This is Zhu Zhongtang's birth chart. Bingzi day stem is born in early spring, with fire weak and wood tender. The useful god is wood, and the hostile god is metal. Most favorable is Hai water in the hour branch, which flows through the metal energy, and combines with Yin to generate wood, which is very suitable. The hour branch Wei earth is also restrained by the hour stem Yi wood, which removes turbid energy and leaves clear energy, achieving harmony and purity. Therefore, the person is broad-minded and peaceful, with a stable career throughout life.

Four pillars: born in the year of Wuzi, month of Gengshen, day of Rennyin, and hour of Xinchou. The big years in order are Xinyou, Renxu, Guihai, Jiazi, Yichou, and Bingyin. The day stem Rennyin was born in the early autumn month of Shen, which is a water month, with abundant water and multiple印绶 (imperial seals). The Wutu and Chou soil can generate metal but cannot control water, so they are not used. Instead, following the strength of water, the wood of Yin is taken as the useful god. When the big year is Guihai, it releases metal and generates wood, and he became a student. When the big year is Jiazi, the earth branch classes together with northern water, removing the stagnation of Chou soil, and also harmonizes with Yin wood, so he passed the imperial examination consecutively and had a high reputation in the Hanlin Academy. However, the problem is that Yin and Shen are in conflict, causing the loss of refined energy, and he was reduced to a county magistrate. When the big year is Jiazi, water and wood come together, and his career was temporarily stable. When the big year is Yichou, Yichou and Gengshen are in harmony, and wood gets support, but he was dismissed from his post and returned home. When the big year is Chou, metal is generated, and he died.

Four pillars: Dinghai year, RENYIN month, BINGWU day, Dingyou hour; the big years in order are Xinchou, Gengzi, Jihai, Wuxu, Dingyou, Bingshen. The day stem BINGWU is born in the YIN month, with two Ding fire stems appearing in the heavenly stems, indicating a strong body. The REN water stem has its root in the亥 branch, which originally forms a proper pattern of the killing and printing mutual generation. However, the objection is the combination of Ding and REN, and the combination of YIN and HAI, which allows Yangren and劫财 to act strongly, leading to a struggle for the wealth star. In the early years, when the person enters the northern region of metal and water, the ancestors' legacy is still abundant; in the WUXU year, the fire will form a fire trinity, completely overcoming the metal wealth, leading to the destruction of the family and death.

Four Pillars: Jihai year, Jiaxu month, Wuyin day, Bingchen hour; the great years in order are Guiyou, Renshen, Xinwei, Gengwu, Jisi, and Wuchen. This is the destiny of Xie Shilang. The Wutu is born in the late autumn month of Xu, when the earth is in command and holds power, so it is not weak. However, the Yimu is just beginning to gain strength, and in the earth branches it gets Hai for growth and Yin for the day of strength, while Chen is the residual qi of wood. This can release fire and nourish wood. Since there is no metal in the chart to control it, the seven killing force becomes strong. Fortunately, the heavenly stem of the year, Jitu, combines with the heavenly stem of the month, Yimu, which is very suitable, so the day stem is not attacked. Moreover, during the middle years of the great years, the path of earth and metal is traveled, which effectively controls and resolves the situation, thus bringing high reputation and generous salary.

Four pillars: Dingwei year, RENYIN month, JIAZI day, BINGYIN hour; the big years in order are XINCHOU, GENGZI, JIHAI, WUXU, DINGYOU, BINGSHEN. This chart differs from the previous one only by the character "Hai," causing the earth to lose the nourishment of water and be unable to nourish wood. The combination of Jia and Ji becomes inappropriate; the seven killer (seven deadly) loses its strength, and the劫财 (robbery wealth) becomes rampant. In the RENSHEN big year, there is both generation and transformation, although one obtains a scholar's robe and cap, but fails to pass the examination. In the middle age, the big years meet earth and metal, leading to the punishment of wife and children, and the family business is gradually consumed in secret. Death occurs in the Si big year. Compared to the two charts, it is a difference of a hair's breadth, yet leads to a difference of thousands of miles.

Four pillars: Ding Hai year, Ren Yin month, Jia Xu day, Jia Zi hour; the big years in order are Xin Chou, Geng Zi, Ji Hai, Wu Xu, Ding You, Bing Shen. Jia wood is born in the Yin month and Yin hour, so the wood is tender and weak. Taking Bing fire to melt the ice and keep warm is the useful god, while Ren water that controls Bing fire is the hostile god. Most favorable is the Ding Ren combination that transforms into wood, which in turn supports Bing fire. The Gui You year is generally unfavorable, but since the big year is Ji, which controls Gui water, it is beneficial, and thus the person passed the imperial examination in the autumn. In the Wu year, the卯 year brought success, but due to limitations in the region, it was not fully utilized.

Four Pillars: Ding Hai year, Ren Yin month, Jia Xu day, Jia Zi hour; the big years in order are Xin Chou, Geng Zi, Ji Hai, Wu Xu, Ding You, Bing Shen. Jia wood is born in the Yin month, getting the right time and being in command. If we take Ding fire as the useful element, it is combined by Ren water; if we take Wu earth as the useful element, Yin and Hai support and combine with each other, and then they come to harm Xu earth. Therefore, success and failure in life are uncertain, with many injuries, damages, and losses. However, it is still pleasant that the fortune has not gone against the person, and only a moderate level of sustenance is obtained. From this we can see: if the combination is appropriate, both fame and profit are achieved; if the combination is inappropriate, there will be injuries, damages, and failures.

The Six Relations theory, section twenty, the image of the ruler.

The sovereign cannot be defied; what is valuable is to reduce the superior to benefit the inferior. The original commentary says: the day ruler is the sovereign, and the wealth god, which is overcome by the day ruler, is the minister. For example, if the day ruler is Jia Wood or Yi Wood, and the entire chart is full of wood, with only a little earth, this indicates a strong sovereign and a weak minister. In such a situation, one must support the minister's position by using fire to generate earth, earth to strengthen it, and metal to protect it. In this way, the inferior is preserved and the superior remains secure.

Ren Shi explained: The statement "the ruler cannot be resisted" is because there is no principle of a lower person rising against a higher one. The term "reducing the superior" refers to the release of what is above, not the restriction of it; when what is above is released, what is below naturally benefits. For example, if the day master is Jia or Yi wood, and the entire chart is full of wood, with only a little earth, this is a case where the ruler is extremely strong and the ministers are extremely weak. In such a situation, the only way is to follow the ruler's nature and use fire to promote the wood energy. When fire is used, the wood is released and the earth is supported, which is called "reducing the superior to benefit the inferior." In this way, the superior is not offended and the inferior is properly settled. If gold is used to protect the earth, that would be resisting the ruler; moreover, strong wood can cause gold to be damaged. Since the ruler cannot be resisted, this action would anger the ruler, causing the ministers to lose their strength. Not only is there no benefit, but there is actually harm, how can there be peace above and safety below?

Four Pillars: Jia Xu year, Bing Yin month, Jia Xu day, Yi Hai hour; the big years in order are Ding Mao, Wu Chen, Ji Si, Geng Wu, Xin Wei, Ren Shen. Jia wood is born in the Yin month, and also gets Hai water to generate it and siblings to assist it. The two Xu earth branches in the year and day are very weak, which can be said to be the king strong and the minister weak. Most favorable is the Bing fire appearing in the month dry branch, following the king's nature to release the wood energy, and the Xu earth getting fire to generate and support it, thus the superior is stable and the inferior is also protected. In the Ji Si year, fire and earth are both strong, and the person passed the imperial examination consecutively. In the Geng Wu and Xin Wei years, fire has a strong root and metal is rootless, with two layers of fire turning back to overcome metal, so Geng and Xin cannot resist the king, and Wu and Wei are sufficient to benefit the minister's position, reaching the rank of provincial governor and judicial commissioner. In the Ren Shen year, Shen metal conflicts with Yin and Ren water overcomes Bing, which goes against the king's nature, leading to death.

Four pillars: Jiazi year, Jiaxu month, Jiayin day, Yihai hour; the big destiny progresses in order as Yihai, Bingzi, Dingchou, Wuyin, Jimao, Gengchen. The day stem Jiayin is born in the late autumn month of Xuxu, where earth is strong and dominant, different from the weak earth in spring. Therefore, this single Xuxu in the chart is sufficient to compensate for the two Xuxus in previous charts. Born in the Hai hour, the heavenly stems are all wood, indicating the ruler is strong and the ministers are weak. The problem is that there is no fire in the chart to promote the wood energy; the group of same stems compete for the wealth star, and there is no way to support the minister's position. Thus, although the superior is secure, the inferior is difficult to maintain. In the early destiny, the person moves to the northern water旺 area, which strengthens the ruler's power, leading to punishments, injuries, losses, and the loss of ancestral property. In the Dingchou destiny, fire and earth come together, slightly establishing the family business. In the Wuyin and Jimao destinies, the earth is rootless while the wood is in its旺 position, resulting in three fires, great ups and downs, punishment of wife and children, and death by the Mao destiny.

The Six Relations theory, section twenty-one, the image of a minister.

A minister should not be overly strong; what is valuable is to reduce the lower to benefit the upper. Original commentary: The day stem is the minister, and the official star is the sovereign. For example, if the day stem is Jia or Yi wood, and the entire chart is full of wood with only a little bit of metal, this indicates the minister is strong and the sovereign is weak. In such a situation, the metal must be supported in various ways: using fire with earth to release the wood's strength, and using earth with fire to assist the metal. In this way, the sovereign is secure and the minister is also protected. If both wood and fire are strong, there is really no way to resolve it, so one should preserve the son of the sovereign (water generated by metal), use less earth, and proceed through a path of fire, which can bring good fortune.

Ren Shi explained: A minister must not be too strong; instead, he should be guided by virtue so that his heart becomes loyal and the ruler's position remains secure. For example, if the day stem is Jia or Yi wood, and the entire chart is full of wood with only a little gold, this indicates that the minister is extremely strong while the ruler is weak. If the ruler's fortune is gold, which is weak, and it is used to restrain the minister, the minister will certainly develop rebellious feelings. Instead, the ruler should go through a path of fire and earth. When wood meets fire, it is mutually generated, and the minister's heart becomes obedient. When gold meets earth, it benefits the ruler, and the ruler's heart becomes secure. If wood is very strong and there is no fire or earth, then the ruler should preserve his son and proceed through a path of water and wood, which can also secure the ruler's position. If both wood and fire are strong, then the ruler should follow the minister's wishes and proceed through a path of fire. This is because even though the minister is strong, his nature is gentle, and even though the ruler is weak, he remains kind-hearted. This results in both the ruler and the minister being secure. If one only uses earth and gold to suppress, this is not the original intention of securing the ruler and the minister.

Four Pillars: Wuyin year, Jiayin month, Jiayin day, Gengwu hour; the big years in order are Yimao, Bingchen, Dingsi, Wuwu, Jiwei, Gengshen. The day stem is Jiayin. The year and month pillars are both Yin, so the whole chart is full of wood. The Geng metal in the hour has no root, which indicates the minister is very strong and the sovereign is weak to the extreme. Fortunately, the Wu hour can circulate the wood energy, so the weak Wu earth gains a root, and the minister's heart becomes harmonious. Also, encountering the big years of Bingchen, Dingsi, Wuwu, Jiwei, which are fire with earth, the generation and transformation are not contradictory, so the minister is harmonious and the sovereign is secure. Therefore, he passed the imperial examination early and reached the position of Attendant Minister. However, in the Gengshen big year, it cannot harmonize with the minister, leading to his death.

Four Pillars:Guimao year, Yimao month, Jiayin day, Xinwei hour; the big years in order are Jiayin, Guichou, Renzi, Xinhai, Gengxu, Jiyou. The day stem is Jiayin, the year and month pillars are both卯, and the heavenly stems also reveal 乙 wood and 癸 water. 未 is dry earth of the south, the warehouse of wood, not earth that can generate metal, so the metal 金, the "sovereign," is powerless. Therefore, we should preserve the son of the sovereign, and take 癸 water as the useful god. When the big years are Jiayin and Guichou, the ancestors' wealth is abundant; when the big years are Renzi and Xinhai, both fame and fortune are achieved. When the big year reaches Gengxu, the earth and metal become strong, and the minister cannot be accommodated, leading to being implicated in affairs and losing position, with losses, harming children, and death.

Four pillars: Wuwu year, Wuwu month, Wuwu day, Jiayin hour; the big years in order are Jiwei, Gengshen, Xinyou, Renxu, Guihai, Jiazi. In this case, three Wuwu pillars appear together. Although the seven killing Jia wood is sitting on the strong branch of寅, there is no water in the chart, and the fire and earth are dry and fierce, which is a situation where the minister is strong and the sovereign is weak. Moreover, the寅 and午 branches form a fire trinity, and the wood follows the fire, which in turn supports the day's ruler. Although the sovereign's grace is deep, the day's ruler does not think much of the Jia wood. Therefore, when the destiny moves to the western metal land, there is great fame and success, but it is very focused on private affection and does not think much of the sovereign's grace. When the destiny reaches the water旺, it cannot protect the sovereign's son, and due to official matters, it is implicated in wrongdoing and loses position.

Four Pillars: Jiayin year, Bingzi month, Jiyou day, Jisi hour; the big years in order are Dingchou, Wuyin, Jimao, Gengchen, Xinsi, Renwu. The day stem Jiyou is born in the middle of winter in the Zi month. The Jia寅 official star is strong and sits on its own stem, the Zi water wealth star is in its season, wealth generates official; the hour branch Si contains the印star, which is called the ruler and minister both flourishing. It is even more remarkable that the month stem reveals a bit of Bing fire, which warms the cold earth and turns it to assist the day stem, indicating deep royal favor. Therefore, he passed the imperial examination early and had a high reputation in the Hanlin Academy. However, the day stem sits on You metal, and with the Si hour forming a trine, fire generates it, metal supports it, and water nourishes it. The day stem's strength is sufficient to overcome the wealth star, so he became an official who valued wealth and forgot the royal favor.

Six Relations Theory · Twenty-Two, Mother's Image

Understanding the principle of a kind mother showing compassion to an orphaned child leads to the result of continuous descendants and boundless blessings. The term "guadie" comes from the "Book of Songs · Da Ya · Mian" which says "mian mian guadie," symbolizing the unending proliferation of descendants. The original note says: the day ruler is the mother, and the food and injury (representing children) born from the day ruler are the children. For example, if the day ruler is Jia or Yi wood, and the entire column is filled with wood, with only a little fire, this indicates a strong mother but an isolated child. In such a situation, one must provide various supports to the children to achieve the image of continuous descendants, and only then can the blessings be passed down for generations.

Ren's explanation states that when there are many mothers but few children, the child is not only dependent on the mother's strength, but the mother's affection also relies on the child. Therefore, neither the mother nor the child should be harmed or suppressed. Instead, one should support the child's strength. In this way, the mother is kind and the child becomes increasingly prosperous. For example, if the day stem is Jia or Yi (wood), and the chart contains only a few points of fire, with the rest being wood, this is considered an excess of mothers, which is harmful. First, water should not be present, as it would harm the child. Second, metal should not be present, as it would offend the mother's nature. When mother and child are not harmonious, the child's strength becomes even more isolated. Only when the path of fire and earth is traveled does the mother's nature turn kind, inevitably supporting the child. The child then obeys the mother's will and produces "grandchildren" (earth), achieving the image of a flourishing lineage, bringing blessings for generations. If instead, the path of water and earth is traveled, the mother's affection changes, and she can no longer accommodate the child.

Four Pillars: Wuwu year, Jiayin month, Yimao day, Jimao hour; the major destiny cycles in order are Yimao, Bingchen, Dingsi, Wuwu, Jiwei, Gengshen. The day stem Yimao is born in the Jiayin month and Yimao hour, with all the pillars filled with wood, except for the year branch which has a single Wu fire. This is a case of the mother being strong and the son being isolated. Fortunately, there is a half-fire trine between the Jiayin and Wu fire, which changes the mother's nature to be kind and affectionate towards the son, and the son is obedient to the mother, thus producing the Wu earth as the "grandson." It is even more fortunate that the major destiny cycles include fire and earth, so in youth he achieved high honors, entered the Han Yuan (imperial academy), and held an official position as a Deputy Minister. However, when he entered the Gengshen cycle, he offended the mother's nature and eventually died.

Four pillars:Guimao year, Bingchen month, Jiayin day, Yihai hour; the big years in order are Yimao, Jiayin, Guichou, Renzi, Xinhai, Gengxu. The day stem Jiayin is born in the third month of spring, the earth branch is 辰, which belongs to eastern wood. A little 丙 fire is floating and exposed, which indicates many mothers but a lonely child. 辰 is damp earth, which obscures the fire light and nourishes the wood; plus 癸 water appears in the heavenly stem, and the hour branch also meets 亥 water which is strong, the mother has no compassion for the lonely child, but rather has the intention to destroy the child. In the first big year Yimao and Jiayin, there is still the feeling of supporting and helping the child, so the days are happy; but when entering the big year Guichou, which is a large earth with water, the mother's heart will change, the child will not be safe, and there will be abnormal breakdown; when reaching the big year Renzi, the child is destroyed, the family breaks up, and the child dies by hanging.

The Six Relations theory, section twenty-three, the image of the son.

Understanding the method of a filial son serving his parents enables one to achieve great harmony and success. The original commentary says: if the day stem is Zi (water), the birth stem's nourishing element is the mother. For example, if the day stem is Jia or Yi (wood), and the entire chart is full of wood, with only a little water, this indicates many sons (Zi) but a weak mother. In such a situation, one must take measures to support the mother: using metal to generate water and earth to generate metal, thus forming the relationship between mother and son, which is called great harmony. If there is no metal in the chart, the water element can only rely on wood. Traveling through areas where wood, fire, and metal are strong can also be beneficial.

Ren Shi explains: When there are many sons but the mother is weak, the mother's nature is attached to the sons, so it is necessary to calm the mother's mind, while also not contradicting the sons' nature. For example, if the day stem is Jia or Yi wood, and the whole chart is full of wood, with only a little water present, this is called many sons but the mother is isolated. The mother's feelings depend on the sons, so it is essential to calm the mother's mind. First, one must not see earth, because if earth appears, the sons will be attached to their wives (wealth stars) and neglect the mother, causing the mother to be unsettled. Second, one must not see metal, because if metal appears, the mother's power becomes strong and oppressive, leaving no room for the sons, causing the sons to rebel. Only when the path of water and metal is followed, allowing metal to generate water rather than harm wood, will the mother's feelings be attached to the sons, and the sons' feelings will be obedient to the mother, thus achieving a great harmonious flow. If the path of earth and metal is followed, the "wife" nature will inevitably become fierce, and neither the mother nor the sons can be at peace. All worldly affairs are like this. The above four sections (king's image, minister's image, mother's image, son's image) although discussed using wood as an example, can be similarly applied to fire, earth, metal, and water.

Four Pillars:Guihai year, Yimao month, Jiayin day, Yihai hour; the major years in order are Jiayin, Guichou, Renzi, Xinhai, Gengxu, Jiyou. The day stem Jiayin is born in the middle spring month of Yimao. The卯 and 亥 are in harmony, and the 寅 and 亥 are also in harmony, so the whole chart is full of wood. The癸 water on the year pillar has no support, which is considered as the son being strong and the mother weak. Water depends on wood, and wood also depends on water, so it is considered that the mother is weak and the son is strong, yet the relationship is harmonious. In the first major year Jiayin and Guichou, there was enough support from ancestors, and he passed the local examination to become a scholar. In the major year Renzi, he passed the provincial examination. In the major year Xinhai, metal and water support each other, and he was promoted from county magistrate to governor of a province. In the major year Gengxu, earth and metal are strong, causing instability between mother and son, and he was implicated in official matters, lost his position, and died.

Four pillars: born in the year of Yihai, month of Jimao, day of Jiayin, and hour of Jiazi. The big years in order are Wuyin, Dingchou, Bingzi, Yihai, Jiaxu, and Guiyou. The day stem Jiayin was born in the middle spring month of Jimao, which is full of wood. The combination of Hai and Mao forms a triple conjunction, and the hour branch Zi water is extremely weak, so the water is even more dependent on wood. The day stem is attracted to the private relationship of Ji soil (wealth star), neglecting the mother. In the Dingchou year, fire and soil come together, but they cannot accommodate the mother. The proverb says, "If the wife is not virtuous, the family will not be harmonious," so there is injury, damage, and loss. In the Bingzi year, fire does not have its root, so it remains safe. In the Jiaxu year, soil is strong again, causing more damage and loss. In the Yihai and Guiyou years, the generation and transformation are not contradictory, leading to remarriage and having children, restoring family honor. In the Renshen year, the later years are even better, due to the mutual generation of metal and water.

The Six Relations theory · Twenty-four, Nature and Character

The five phases' energies do not contradict each other; when they are in harmony, the nature and emotions are upright and peaceful. If they are mixed, chaotic, or unbalanced, then the nature and emotions become perverse and contrary. The original commentary says: the five energies exist in heaven as the principles of originality, prosperity, benefit, and constancy; when they are bestowed upon human beings, they become the five virtues of benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom, and faith, as well as the five emotions of compassion, shame and aversion, courtesy and humility, discernment of right and wrong, and sincerity. When the five energies do not contradict each other, they become the nature within the heart and the emotions expressed outwardly, all being upright and peaceful. In contrast, those who are chaotic and unbalanced tend to become perverse and contrary.

Ren's explanation: The so-called "five elements" refer to the qi of the Earlier Heaven Luo Writing. The yang numbers are located at the four cardinal directions, while the yin numbers are located at the four corners. The earth element resides in the Gen and Kun trigrams, which corresponds to the positioning of the Later Heaven trigrams. The east belongs to wood, representing spring in the seasons and "ren" (benevolence) in human qualities; the south belongs to fire, representing summer in the seasons and "li" (ritual propriety) in human qualities; the west belongs to metal, representing autumn in the seasons and "yi" (righteousness) in human qualities; the north belongs to water (the original text says "fire," which should be "water"), representing winter in the seasons and "zhi" (wisdom) in human qualities. The Gen and Kun trigrams are centered on earth: Kun is located in the southwest, symbolizing the generation of earth from fire and the production of metal from earth; Gen is located in the northeast because all things return to earth, and without earth, water cannot be retained and trees cannot be planted. Just as the four virtues of ren, yi, li, and zhi require "xin" (trustworthiness) to be fulfilled, the sage placed the Gen trigram in the northeast, embodying the meaning of "achieving through trust." To bestow a human form, the five elements must not contradict each other and must be in harmony and purity, thus giving rise to feelings of compassion, humility, and sincerity. If the elements are imbalanced, excessive, or deficient, it will lead to disputes, discord, and arrogance.

Four Pillars: born in the year of Jichou, month of Bingyin, day of Jiazi, and hour of Wuchen; the big destiny sequence is Yichou, Jiazi, Guihai, Renxu, Xinyou, and Gengshen. The day stem Jiazi is born in the early spring month of Bingyin, where wood is in its season but not excessive; fire is in its phase but not intense; earth is abundant but not dry; water is scarce but not dry; metal is not present in the four pillars but is hidden in Chou and Chen, thus not being harmed by fire and being generated by earth. The whole chart has no conflict but mutual generation. Therefore, the person is not fickle, without arrogance, flattery, cruelty, or unkindness, but has the qualities of integrity, respectfulness, benevolence, and kindness.

Four Pillars: born in Jiyou year, Dingmao month, Jimao day, Yichou hour; the big years in order are Bingyin, Yichou, Jiazi, Guihai, Renxu, Xinyou. The day stem Ji is the day ruler, born in the middle spring month of Dingmao. The earth is weak and lacks credibility, while wood is excessive and metal is damaged. The Yin fire Ding is not strong enough to support the damp earth, so 'credibility' and 'righteousness' become empty words. Moreover, the entire八字 consists of Yin stems and branches, showing a tendency to flatter and follow others, with the mind full of schemes to harm others for personal gain, and a desire to rejoice at others' misfortunes.

Four Pillars: Bingxu year, Yiwei month, Bingzi day, Jiawu hour; the big years in order are Bingshen, Dingyou, Wuxu, Jihai, Gengzi, Xinchou. Bing fire is born in the late summer month of Wei, where fire is intense and earth is dry. The heavenly stems Ji and Yi, both wood, are dry wood, which actually intensify the fire's strength. It is even worse that Zi water comes to clash, making the fire more urgent and creating a state of imbalance and disorder. Therefore, the nature is erratic, and in dealing with the world, he tends to be proud and impetuous, like wind feeding fire. When things go his way, he is willing to spend thousands; when they go against him, he insists on distinguishing even the smallest thing. Thus, his family's fortune is ruined and he ends up with nothing left.

A person whose nature is fiery and impetuous is most afraid of encountering metal and water that clash with it. The original commentary says: although fire is fierce, if it follows its nature, it will be clear and smooth; but if metal and water provoke it, its fierce and impetuous nature becomes uncontrollable. Ren Shi explains: fire is both dry and fierce, and its upward nature can only be tempered by moist earth, thus becoming respectful and embodying the virtue of kindness; if it meets metal and water, the fire becomes even more intense and loses its sense of propriety, leading to calamity. The moist earth refers to the earth branches Chou and Chen, which can obscure the fire's brightness and restrain its intensity, allowing the fire to become clear and bright.

Four Pillars: Bingxu year, Jiawu month, Bingwu day, Jichou hour; the big years in order are Yiwei, Bingshen, Dingyou, Wuxu, Jihai, Gengzi. The Bingwu day stem is born in the Wu month, and the year and month pillars also meet Ji wood and Bing fire, which are extremely intense. Most favorable is the Jichou hour, where both the heavenly stem and earthly branch are moist earth (Ji earth and Chou earth), which can restrain the intensity of Bing fire and obscure the brilliance of Wu fire. It follows its nature and satisfies its emotions, without overpowering the things below. Therefore, the person is stern but not fierce, strict but not cruel, and their fame and fortune are bright and honorable.

Four Pillars: born in the year of Xinsi, month of Jiawu, day of Bingzi, and hour of Jiawu; the big years in order are Guisi, Renchen, Xinmao, Gengyin, Jichou, and Wuzi. The fire of Bing is born in the month and hour of Wu, which is the month and hour of fire. The wood follows the fire's strength, becoming extremely fierce. There is no earth in the chart to moderate the fire, and the metal has no root, while the water has no source. This only intensifies the fire's fierce nature. Therefore, he lost his parents at a young age and had to rely on his uncle and aunt. He was bold and impulsive, not keeping to his proper role. At about sixteen or seventeen, he was tall and strong, with great arm strength, and enjoyed practicing boxing and wrestling. He liked to associate with local rascals, was reckless and unrestrained, and his uncle and aunt could not control him. Later, he died after fighting a tiger, being bitten by it.

Water, though flowing strongly, becomes gentle in nature when properly paired with the right divine element. The original commentary states: When water is abundant and rushing, its nature is extremely strong and urgent. Only by using metal to guide its flow and wood to release its energy can it become gentle. Ren Shi explains: Water is inherently soft, but its rushing momentum is the most forceful among all elements. If it encounters fire to confront it or earth to provoke it, it will go against its nature and become even more fierce. The term "奔" refers to the extreme strength of its flow. Using metal to follow its momentum and wood to clear its blockages is to follow the strong flow and contain the wild energy, thus transforming its nature into gentleness. This is known as "the virtue within strength," implying ease in advancement and difficulty in retreat. Such a person is intelligent and versatile, yet does not lack compassion and righteousness.

Four Pillars:Guihai year, Jiazi month, Renshen day, Gengzi hour; the great years in order are Guihai, Renxu, Xinyou, Gengshen, Jiwei, Wuwu. The day stem Renshen is born in the month of 子, with the year branch 亥 and the hour branch 子, and the heavenly stem also reveals 癸 water and 庚 metal. The water force rushes strongly and cannot be stopped. The month heavenly stem 甲 wood is withered and is cut by metal, unable to contain the water force, instead taking 庚 metal to follow the momentum. The person is both strong and gentle, with benevolence and virtue, diligent in study and steadfast in action, not seeking empty fame. In the early years Guihai, following the strong force, the ancestors' blessings were very good; in the year 壬戌, the water does not have a root and the戌 earth stimulates the water, leading to injuries, losses, and death; in the years 辛酉 and 庚申, he entered the examination hall as a candidate, was promoted to a廪生, had four sons, and the family's business gradually increased; when entering the year Jiwei, the rushing water force was stirred up, resulting in the death of three sons consecutively, with extreme losses, and he died in the year 戊.

Four pillars: Renyin year, Renzi month, Renchen day, Renyin hour; the big years in order are Guichou, Jiayin, Yimao, Bingchen, Dingsi, Wuwu. There are four Ren water heavenly stems, born in the Zi month, forming a rushing and conflicting situation. Most favorable is the Yin hour, which can unblock the Chen earth and collect the strong Ren water, so the person is not arrogant or proud, with extraordinary talent, able to memorize books at a glance, and write essays quickly, with thousands of words in a single sitting. In the Jiayin big year, he entered the academy as a student, and in the Yimao big year, he passed the imperial examination. Unfortunately, his fate was not favorable, and he was unable to fully apply his knowledge. In the Bingchen big year, the strong water was stimulated, and there was competition for the wealth star, leading to his death.

Four Pillars: Guiwei year, Guihai month, Renzi day, Wushen hour; the major years in order are Renxu, Xinyou, Gengshen, Jiwei, Wuwu, Dingsi. The Renzi day stem is born in the Hai month and Shen hour. Both the year and month dry branches reveal Gui water, so one should follow its momentum and not oppose its flow. The problem is the presence of Wei and Wu, which agitate the water nature, leading the person to act in reverse order, not follow the right path, and act without restraint. In the early years of Renxu, the earth branch meets strong earth, causing the parents to pass away. In the Xinyou and Gengshen years, the earth is drained to generate water, although the person has mischievous and improper behavior, they are fortunate to avoid serious misfortune. When entering the Jiwei year, the earth supports and agitates the water, resulting in the death of all five family members in a fire.

The wood element tends toward the southern fire land, and thus appears weak and timid. Original commentary: The nature of wood, when encountering fire, becomes compassionate; moving toward the south, it expresses the nature of "ren" (benevolence) in the context of "li" (ritual propriety), and thus its nature becomes weak and timid. Those who follow the middle path display compassion and propriety; those who deviate become indulgent and accommodating, or overly formal and ritualistic. Ren's interpretation: Wood moving toward the south exhausts its energy excessively. If there is metal in the pillar, there must be water to mediate, so that fire does not become too intense; if there is no metal, there must be辰 earth to restrain the fire, which is considered balanced. Such a person is respectful and courteous, harmonious and measured. If there is no water to assist or earth to weaken the fire, the energy is exhausted too much, leading to self-assumed intelligence and frequent change, resulting in the weakness of a woman's compassion.

Four Pillars: born in the year of Gengchen, month of Renwu, day of Jiawu, and hour of Bingyin; the big years in order are Guiwei, Jiashen, Yiyou, Bingxu, Dinghai, and Wuzi. The day stem Jiawu is born in the month of Wu, which is the southern direction, so the wood is running south. Although the hour stem meets the strong and prosperous Bingyin and the fire is supported by the丙 fire, these are no longer something the day stem can control. The most favorable thing is that the month stem reveals Ren water to balance the fire. However, the Ren water needs to be generated by Geng metal, and cannot be used solely by overcoming Bing fire. If Geng metal lacks Chen soil, it cannot generate water. The key to this birth chart lies in the Chen character: it obscures the fire, nourishes the wood, stores water, and generates metal. This makes the fire not too intense, the wood not dry, the metal not melted, and the water not dried up. All depends on the Chen character, achieving a balanced state. In the Shen big year, the Ren water is supported, and in the Yiyou big year, the metal is strong and generates water, leading to entering the academy, being selected for the county granary, and passing the local examination. In the Bingxu big year, fire and earth are both strong, leading to frequent mourning. In the Dinghai big year, the Ren water is in its proper place, and he was appointed as a county magistrate in Fujian, practicing virtue and education, achieving a transformation in the local customs. This is exactly what is meant by the harmonious combination of strength and flexibility, and the combination of benevolence and virtue.

Four Pillars: Bingxu year, Jiawu month, Jiashen day, Bingyin hour; the big years in order are Yiwei, Bingshen, Dingyou, Wuxu, Jihai, Gengzi. The day stem Jiashen is born in the Wu month, with two visible Bing fire in the heavenly stems, and the earthly branches form a fire trinity, with wood rushing southward. The dry earth cannot obscure fire to generate metal, and since there is no water in the chart, the Shen metal is completely overcome, becoming extremely soft. Therefore, the person only cares about personal favors and small benefits, lacks understanding of the bigger picture, and is hesitant and indecisive in doing things. Because of their suspicious nature and pursuit of small gains at the expense of great righteousness, they ultimately achieve nothing.

When gold meets water, it becomes smooth and flowing. Original commentary: Gold has a nature that is most upright and square, with decisiveness and the ability to hold firm to its resolve. When it meets water, the nature of "righteousness" is promoted and becomes "wisdom," and with wisdom, the origin god is not blocked, thus allowing flow. If the energy is pure and correct, then distinctions are clear and one does not act recklessly; in handling affairs, there is deliberation and adaptability. If the energy is deficient and imbalanced, then there will be excessive flow and disorder. Master Ren's explanation: Gold has a body that is strong, upright, and just, capable of shouldering great responsibilities and making decisive plans. When it meets water, it smooths out its rigid and square nature, allowing the use of strategy. If the energy is pure and correct, it is when gold is strong and meets water; such a person is internally upright and externally adaptable, understands flexibility, and in dealing with the world, does not lose integrity or kindness, and his actions naturally conform to the middle path. If the energy is deficient and imbalanced, it is when gold is weak and water is strong; such a person acts foolishly, speaks insincerely, and harbors the intention of manipulating others with cunning.

Four Pillars: Jia Shen year, Gui You month, Geng Zi day, Yi You hour; the big years in order are Jia Xu, Yi Hai, Bing Zi, Ding Chou, Wu Yin, Ji Mao. Geng metal is born in the You month, and the year stem and hour stem are Shen and You, which indicate extremely sharp autumn metal. Fortunately, the day's main stem is Zi water, and the heavenly stem also reveals the Gui water Origin God, which circulates the nature of metal and releases its essence. Therefore, the person can shoulder great responsibilities and arrange things properly, handle complicated affairs with firm principles, and be generous and helpful, restraining oneself for the benefit of others.

Four pillars: Renshen year, Renzi month, Gengchen day, Bingzi hour; the big years in order are Guichou, Jiayin, Yimao, Bingchen, Dingsi, Wuwu. Geng metal is born in the middle winter month of Zi, with two visible Ren water in the heavenly stem, and the earthly branches form a water trinity, so the metal is weak and the water is strong, which is a sign of imbalance. It is even worse that the hour stem shows Bing fire, which mixes up the whole situation. Metal represents 'righteousness' and is square and upright, while water represents 'wisdom' and is round and flexible. When there is too much metal and not enough water, wisdom may be round but action remains square; when water is excessive and metal is weak, the upright energy is cut off, leaving only a smooth and cunning mind. In the middle years, the big years meet fire and earth, which disturb the nature of Ren water, causing damage and loss, scattering wealth and separating people. For half of his life, he is deceitful, deceiving others' property, which eventually all goes to waste. In general, a person's poverty, success, wealth, and status are already determined by fate. A gentleman enjoys being a gentleman, while a petty person is in vain being a petty person.

The most stubborn case is when water from the west flows contrary to the south. Original commentary: Water from the west originates the longest and has the strongest momentum; without earth to control it or wood to receive it, it flows with a vast and unrestrained force. If it does not flow in its natural direction but instead flows toward the south, it goes against its nature, which is not easily restrained. Ren Shi explains: Water from the west originates from Kunlun, with a mighty and unstoppable flow. It can only be guided by wood to receive it, reflecting the nature of wisdom being expressed through benevolence. If earth is used to control it, and it does not conform to its nature, it may cause sudden surges and disasters. Its nature remains rebellious and stubborn.

Four pillars:Guihai year, Gengshen month, Renshen day, Jiachen hour; the big years in order are Jiwei, Wuwu, Dingsi, Bingchen, Yimao, Jiayin. The day stem Renshen is born in the亥 year and 申 month:亥 is the heavenly gate, 申 is the heavenly gate, which is exactly the mouth of the天河, belonging to the western water, with the longest source. What is appreciated is that the hour stem 甲 wood has 辰 soil to root and nourish the wood, which is sufficient to contain the water flow. Thus, the nature of "wisdom" is extended to "benevolence," and "ritual" is also complete. Therefore, the person has surprising ability and character, but lacks the talent for taking shortcuts to gain profit. In middle age, when the southern fire big year comes, it can generate and transform the 甲 wood, achieving both fame and fortune.

Four pillars:癸hai year, gengshen month, renzi day, bingwu hour; the big years in order are jiwei, wuwu, dingsi, bingchen, yimao, jiayin. The day stem renzi is born in the shen month and hai year, which is the western water, flowing strongly but without a place to gather. When the hour is bingwu, it conflicts and goes against its nature. Therefore, the person is strong-willed and stubborn, and does not know propriety. Moreover, when the big years go to the southern fire and earth, the family business is ruined completely. When reaching the wu big year, he forcefully takes another man's wife and is beaten to death. The common saying takes bing fire as the useful god, thinking that encountering fire and earth is good, but they do not know that metal and water are in harmony, and can only be followed, not opposed. It is necessary to meet the mu big year for generation and transformation, to avoid calamity, and the person will then know propriety.

The most fierce and violent is the fire of the East reversed to the North. Original commentary: The fire of the East has a tendency to burn upward without restraint; if there is no earth to contain it and no water to control it, how can this fierce burning be calmed? If it is not allowed to proceed in its natural direction but is instead reversed to the North, it would go against its nature, and thus become fierce and violent. Ren Shi explains: The fire of the East relies on the strength of wood, and its upward burning nature is uncontrollable. It can only be guided along its fierce nature by using damp earth to contain it, transforming its fierce nature into benevolence. Once it is reversed to the North, how can it be controlled? It will certainly be fierce and unruly. If there is no earth to contain it, yet it still proceeds in the fire and wood cycle, following its momentum, it would still retain some compassion and kindness.

Four Pillars: Bingyin year, Jiawu month, Bingwu day, Jichou hour; the big destiny sequence is Yiwei, Bingshen, Dingyou, Wuxu, Jihai, Gengzi. The Bingwu day stem is born in the Wu month and Bingyin year, with the year and month pillars revealing Yi wood and Bing fire. This creates a fierce and upward burning fire that cannot be restrained. Fortunately, the earth branch has Jichou hour, which is moist earth that restrains the intense fire. Therefore, the person is tolerant and cultivated, without showing arrogance or flattery. When the destiny flows through earth and metal, it still receives the resolution from Jichou earth, leading to consecutive success in exams and holding an official position as a prefect.
