The mnemonic says: When Kongwang acts as the official ghost and carries the "Fumian" evil spirit, and is further accompanied by Tiankong and Taiyin, the matter being divined will involve people deceiving and being negligent. Explanation: When the ghost of Kong carries Fumian, and is accompanied by Tiankong and Taiyin, it indicates deception and secret harm. The method of calculating the "Manyu" evil spirit is: starting from the fifth branch in the first month, proceeding in order through the twelve branches. The mnemonic also says: When Kongwang acts as the official ghost and carries the "Wudao" evil spirit, and is further accompanied by Dahaos, there will certainly be loss and dispersion. Explanation: When the ghost of Kong is accompanied by Xuanwu, Wudao, and the two types of Dahaos and Xiaohao, the thief will certainly come from the place of Kong, and the property will also disappear from the place of Kong, so loss and dispersion are inevitable. The "Wudao" starts from Chou in the first month, proceeding in reverse through the twelve branches; the "Dahaos" starts from Xu in the first month, proceeding in reverse through the twelve branches; the "Xiaohao" starts from Mao in the first month, proceeding in order through the twelve branches. Any divine spirits and evils found in the "Warp and Weft of Liuren" are marked with vermilion ink. This is the vermilion annotation by Qingya.
The mnemonic says: If Kongwang acts as the official ghost and carries the Post-horse and Ding spirit, there must be someone fleeing away, and the matter will be in great disorder. Explanation: If Kongwang and Ding spirit with Post-horse are present, there will certainly be someone fleeing; otherwise, it also indicates leaving home and being adopted by another family. Another mnemonic says: If the Day Branch is 'Tian Kong', then a person away from home will receive news; if it also carries the Joy spirit, it is even better, but it is not suitable to fall into emptiness. Explanation: Tian Kong is originally a spirit governing messages and communications. When it appears on the Day Branch, it indicates that news from outside will come into the family; if it falls into emptiness, it should not be taken as a sign of receiving messages.
The mnemonic says: If Kongwang (empty) comes to overcome the Day Stem, a person will have no support, living a lonely and desolate life. Explanation: When the Initiating Transmission is a fallen official ghost (officer ghost), it indicates that this person will live a life of isolation and coldness. The mnemonic also says: If the Nobleman and Vermilion Bird take on the role of official ghosts and fall into Kongwang (empty), then documents, letters, and valuable items are the places where stolen goods are hidden. Explanation: When the Useful God is accompanied by the Nobleman and Vermilion Bird and acts as an empty ghost, all matters concerning documents and valuable items can only be determined by one's own Life Qi, and the rest should be further analyzed according to various divine influences and astrological factors.
The mnemonic says: "Teng Snake" acting as official ghost falling into Kongwang indicates alarm and loss, also indicating fire and candle-related disasters. Explanation: Although the useful god falls into Kongwang, one still cannot avoid alarm and confusion, as well as people going missing and fire causing calamity. The mnemonic also says: "Vermilion Bird" acting as ghost falling into Kongwang inevitably leads to false and unreliable words, and news and messages tend to be extravagant and absurd. The mnemonic also says: "Liu He" acting as ghost falling into Kongwang, although the words are good, one should still be cautious. Explanation: Although the words are pleasant and beautiful, one should still be careful.
The mnemonic says: "When Gou Chen acts as a ghost and enters Kongwang, there is internal collusion and external involvement, especially needing to beware of this calamity. When Qinglong acts as a ghost and enters Kongwang, joy is mixed with theft and harm, and one should be cautious oneself. When Tiankong acts as a ghost and enters Kongwang, one should especially beware of hidden losses, and all matters are obscure and unclear. When Baihu acts as a ghost and enters Kongwang, it indicates injury, fighting, lawsuits, and also a false alarm."
The mnemonic says: "Tai Chang" acting as a ghost entering Kongwang, leads to loss of money, grain, wine, food, seals, and even clothes. "Xuan Wu" (originally written as "Xuan Hu") acting as a ghost entering Kongwang, indicates the possibility of people going missing or theft, and one should be prepared in advance. "Tai Yin" acting as a ghost entering Kongwang, signifies plots and mutual jealousy, and there may be the death of female servants. "Heavenly Empress" acting as a ghost entering Kongwang, warns against the loss of clothes and jewelry.
On Breaking the Gods
The song says: "The breaking god is most inauspicious. If it falls on the day stem, relatives will come to bully you. If it falls on the day branch, you will be bullied by outsiders. All social interactions and dealings will be unsatisfactory." Explanation: The method of calculating the breaking god is as follows: on a yang day, take the third heavenly stem after the day; for example, on a Zi day, the breaking god is You; on a Yin day, take the third heavenly stem before the day; for example, on a Chou day, the breaking god is Chen; on a Mao day, the breaking god is Wu. If either of these breaking gods falls on the day stem, it indicates that family members and neighbors will bully you. If it falls on the day branch, it indicates that outsiders and friends will bully you. If the day stem and day branch mutually break each other, it means external and internal conflicts, with both sides harming each other.
In general, when something is broken, nothing succeeds: if the wealth sign is broken, there will be financial loss; if lost items are broken, the items become damaged; ifinauspicious sign is broken, the凶 effect does not occur. If the Nobleman is broken, then achievements, recommendations, and requests to the Nobleman cannot be fulfilled; if the Teng Snake is broken, although there may be connections and help, the affairs do not last long; if the Vermilion Bird is broken, official documents and disputes are suppressed secretly and cannot proceed; if the Liu He is broken, business transactions, recommendations, marriages, and adoption of children do not succeed; if the Gou Chen is broken, disputes, property, tombs, and transactions do not succeed; if the Azure Dragon is broken, seeking wealth, marriage, official documents, and case files cannot be carried out.
When "Tian Kong" is broken, matters concerning documents, donations, servants, and scholarly pursuits fail. When "Xuan Wu" is broken, secret plots and activities of thieves cannot be carried out, and starting school also fails. When "Tai Yin" is broken, private schemes, financial transactions, and connections are blocked. When "Tian Hou" is broken, imperial favors and pardons do not come, and marriages fail. When "Tai Chang" is broken, recommendations, promotions, marriages, and banquets are interrupted. When "Bai Hu" is broken, one should beware of robbery on the road, and military examinations cannot be taken. Jin Zhengyin notes: This is called "Month Breaker." Another view is that it refers to when a trigram is added to a position four places away, which is considered broken.
The song says: If you discuss spiritual and malevolent influences immediately at the moment of harmony, it will certainly cause damage and destruction without any leniency. Explanation: Here, "break" refers to the "Four Breaks," and one must examine the spiritual and malevolent influences to determine the cause of the break. The song also says: The annual break is added to the monthly break, and even if a good general is encountered, it cannot be tolerated; if combined with malevolent spirits and malevolent generals, it will lead to financial loss and failure of affairs, resulting in the master's poverty. Explanation: When the annual break and the monthly construction enter the lesson through the initiating transmission, a single break is already difficult to handle, let alone when two breaks occur simultaneously in the initiating transmission. In such a case, good things will not succeed, and bad things are inevitable; if further assisted by malevolent spirits and malevolent generals, wealth will be scattered, affairs will fail, and the person will remain poor all their life, achieving nothing.
The song says: When encountering "conflict," how should we assess the divine omens? There will certainly be calamities coming from the side, and we must examine where they come from. Explanation: Here, "conflict" refers to "broken destruction omen." The method of calculation is: for the years of Zi, Wu, Mao, and You, the conflict occurs in Si; for the years of Yin, Shen, Si, and Hai, the conflict occurs in You; for the years of Chen, Xu, Chou, and Wei, the conflict occurs in Chou; further reference to other divine omens can determine where the calamity comes from. The song also says: if destruction or waste falls upon the three transmissions, all matters will be ruined and abandoned, there is no need for further doubt. Explanation:the so-called "破" refers to destruction caused by the sovereign year, the month builder, the day, and the hour;the so-called "废" refers to the "four wastes" omen. If the useful god is accompanied by destruction or waste omens, all affairs will not proceed smoothly.
The song says: "The Broken Fate" falling in the first transmission means the matter will not succeed, falling in the middle transmission means hesitation and indecision, and falling in the final transmission means no further development. Explanation: The Broken Fate, when encountered by the wealth爻, causes financial loss; when encountered by a matter, causes failure; when encountered by an object, causes damage. If it falls in the first transmission, the matter fails immediately; if it falls in the middle transmission, there is hesitation and indecision in the middle; if it falls in the final transmission, there is no conclusion in the end.
The rhyme says: When巳 and亥 are in opposition, and there is also a Nobleman and Tian Kong above, and if there are also the "Mishen" and "Guangge" stars, then one cannot move when wanting to move, and cannot speak when wanting to speak. Everything becomes cold and desolate, and there is not even a shadow. Explanation: When巳 and亥 are combined and there are a Nobleman and Tian Kong above, and since巳 and亥 themselves are in opposition, together with the "Mishen" and "Guangge" stars, one cannot move when wanting to move, and cannot speak when wanting to speak. This indicates that affairs are hesitant and progress is blocked.
The song says: When human feelings are cut off, it is because of the presence of punishment and destruction; if this falls into a place of decline, it indicates that one has no support from the six relations. It also says: If both destruction and ruin enter the three transmissions, the person is either physically disabled or suffers from illness, which is pitiful. Explanation: If the useful god and the three transmissions carry the signs of destruction and ruin, nothing will succeed, and all endeavors will fail; if further accompanied by the 'bingfu' and 'tian gui' evils, it indicates a person who is disabled.
The rhyme says: When you are being harmed or insulted by others, you must know to hold your anger within and not speak recklessly to harm others; you should quickly keep your mouth shut and not delay, so that good strategies can be carried out, achieving both victory and success. Explanation: When the Useful God encounters the four destructive forces, along with punishment and harm, silence, Vermilion Bird, and slanderous speech as divine signs, once the destructive forces have taken shape, when you are being insulted, you must not immediately retaliate with words. Instead, you should keep your mouth closed, endure silently, and calmly think through strategies to win. In this way, how could those destructive forces harm you?
The rhyme says: If the Month Breaker falls on the Chen or Xu palace, there will certainly be an accident involving falling or injury in that year; if it is also combined with Death Qi, there will be a serious illness causing confusion and mental dullness; if it is combined with Life Qi, it will instead bring about a thick atmosphere of auspiciousness. Explanation: Chen and Xu are the positions of "falling killer," and if the initiating transmission of the Month Breaker falls on them, it indicates a disaster involving falling or collision; if combined with Death Qi, it indicates a disaster of confusion and mental fog; if combined with Life Qi, although there may be danger, it will ultimately result in no harm. The rhyme also says: If the Annual Breaker is on top of the Month Builder and is also combined with "Black Tortoise" and "Heavenly Void," there will certainly be someone leaving home and being unable to keep them. Explanation: If the Day Stem is occupied by Black Tortoise and Heavenly Void, and also combined with the Annual Breaker, the family will certainly have someone who leaves home and cannot be retained.
Discussing punishment, clash, and harm.
The term "刑" refers to a severe and destructive aspect, specifically the Three Punishments. It indicates a lack of harmony between superiors and inferiors, and an inability of strength and flexibility to complement each other. It signifies a restless and fierce nature, leading to self-inflicted harm, as if caught between two blades. When "刑" appears in a chart, whether it is auspicious or inauspicious depends on the overall situation: if there are many auspicious elements, the "刑" will assist in enhancing the auspicious; if there are many inauspicious elements, the "刑" will assist in intensifying the inauspicious. If "刑" occurs during a period of prosperity and strength, it is like having a carriage and a horse, which is favorable. If "刑" occurs during a period of weakness and confinement, it is like being imprisoned and whipped, indicating disputes, evil, worries, and missed opportunities. If "刑" does not fall into the empty void and is related to illness, seeking favor, or interactions between guests and hosts, it may bring guilt to ordinary people, but it is favorable for matters such as capturing thieves. For officials and gentlemen, however, encountering "刑" can signify authority. There are four types of "刑."
The first type is called "self-punishment": the branches of Chen, Wu, You, and Hai harm themselves. If they fall in a position of defeat, another chart should be used. Those who suffer self-punishment are arrogant and self-willed, taking pride in their own abilities and suffering the consequences of their own actions, possibly even meeting a violent end. The second type is called "punishment of impropriety": Zi harms Mao and Mao harms Zi. This is because the essence of the sun is born in Zi, and the yang energy is stored in the Zi position; while Mao is the gate of sunrise, Zi is in a low position relative to Mao, yet refuses to maintain the humble and respectful demeanor. Zi is also the "greedy wolf," and Mao is the "secret villain," two destructive spirits that mutually harm each other, leading to family misfortune and immoral behavior among both adults and children. For example, if Mao is placed over Zi, it signifies something entering openly but leaving secretly, with neither waterways nor land routes being accessible, and the behavior of children not following proper conduct.
The third type is called "Punishment of Ingratitude":寅 is harmed by巳,巳 is harmed by申, and申 is harmed by寅. This is because寅 contains hidden miscellaneous fire,巳 contains hidden miscellaneous metal, and申 contains hidden miscellaneous water. Each is harmed by what it should generate, hence it is called "Punishment of Ingratitude." When寅 is harmed by巳, the harm also involves conflict, indicating difficulty in action, and when the other party harms me, I will fight back, leading to lawsuits and calamities; when巳 is harmed by申, the harm also involves harmony, indicating disorder in family hierarchy, where the younger first offends and then reconciles, and when the other party harms me, I can resolve it, indicating mutual retaliation between grievances; when申 is harmed by寅, the harm also involves breaking through, indicating that the person and ghosts together attack, with men and women involved, and when the other party harms me, I will act, indicating mutual harm and injury.
The fourth type is called "Punishment of Overbearing Power": Earth's upper position is in Xu, and Earth is also strong in Chen, Xu, Chou, and Wei, with its main strength in Wei. Wei, relying on its own strength, goes on to刑 (injure) Chou's Capping position. Chou, relying on its Capping position to gain strength, then goes on to刑 (injure) Xu. Xu, relying on its position as Heavenly Punishment, turns back to刑 (injure) Wei's main strength. Another explanation says that Chou刑 (injures) Xu, and Xu transfers this anger, relying on its position at the beginning of the ten-day cycle to刑 (injure) Wei. Chou刑 (injures) Xu, and this刑 (injury) carries an invisible ghost, indicating a situation where the powerful injure the weak, the superior injure the inferior, leading to punishment, imprisonment, and legal disputes. Xu刑 (injures) Wei, and this刑 (injury) carries a breaking element, indicating inferior people offending superiors, lack of wealth in wife and property, and unfavorable actions. Wei刑 (injures) Chou, and this刑 (injury) does not carry a breaking element, indicating discord between family members, lack of harmony among brothers, or the presence of mourning in the family. When these刑 (injuries) occur at the initiating transmission, they often lead to disasters.
When the刑 falls on the day stem, it indicates harm to a male; when it falls on the day branch, it indicates harm to a female. When a strong god is刑 by a weak god, good fortune arises; when death qi is刑 by a strong qi, calamity begins. If the time of divination刑 the day stem, worry comes from small people; if the useful god刑 the time of divination, it indicates unfavorable travel. When a good god刑 an evil god, there is no cause for worry; when an evil god刑 a good god, misfortune arrives immediately. If the刑 involves the month builder, one should not engage in legal disputes; if the刑 involves the day branch, one should not travel far; if the刑 involves both the stem and branch, both people and the home will be unsettled. The day stem being刑 comes quickly, while the day branch being刑 comes slowly. If there is mutual刑 between the upper and lower, and the day stem's official ghost is present, this indicates a chaotic and perverse situation, with repeated legal troubles, continuous worries, and no moment of relief.
In addition, there is the 'Control and Punishment' (制御之刑): when the ten heavenly stems gather together and mutually control and attack each other, disorder and rebellion arise, so punishment is added to restrain and control them. Whenever a heavenly stem and earthly branch combine, the conflict and struggle do not occur outside the area of the earthly branch they are added to. The pairing method is: Jia is punished by Shen, Yi by You, Bing by Zi, Ding by Hai, Wu by Yin (the original text says 'Xu', which should be a mistake for 'Wu'), Ji by Mao, Geng by Wu, Xin by Si, Ren by Xu, and Gui by Wei.
the so-called "chong" refers to a disruptive force that initially brings some benefit but ultimately leads to downfall, indicating instability, fluctuation, and restlessness. If it falls on the day stem, it signifies personal movement; if it falls on the day branch, it indicates changes in residence. Riding on aInauspicious General (malevolent general) leads to injury and movement; riding on "Xuanwu" (Black Tortoise) indicates fleeing and movement; riding on "Tianhou" (Heavenly Empress) and "Taiyin" (Great Yin) indicates secret movement. Riding on "Xuanwu" and "Liuhe" (Six Harmonies) indicates loss of property and licentiousness, as well as frequent changes. Riding on "Gouchen" (Hooked Earth) indicates private misconduct, disputes, and changes. The conflict between Zi and Wu indicates travel, disputes between men and women, and changes in affairs; the conflict between Mao and You indicates division within the household, loss, and changes. The conflict between Yin and Shen indicates disputes with spirits and injuries between men and women; the conflict between Si and Hai indicates many reversals, repeated efforts with little reward; the conflict between Chou and Wei indicates discord among brothers and failure in affairs; the conflict between Chen and Xu indicates mixed emotions, confusion between high and low status, servants fleeing, and blocked communication. In general, auspicious signs should not be confronted by conflict, while inauspicious signs are further dispersed by conflict.
The concept of "harm" refers to situations of infringement, injury, and oppression. When yin and yang are not in harmony, it is like water being blocked and unable to flow, or blood circulation being unsmooth, leading to many obstacles and frustrations. When the Earthly Branch Zi is placed over Wei, it indicates affairs that start but do not finish, and may bring about legal troubles and disputes. When Wei is placed over Zi, it suggests difficulties in planning and operations, and dangers in going out or coming in. When Chou is placed over Wu, it indicates frequent illness and lawsuits, and marital discord. When Wu is placed over Chou, it signifies younger generations offending elders, and matters often being unclear and difficult to resolve.
Yin is placed over Si, indicating contention and mutual harm, leading to changes and movements, with advantage in retreating and disadvantage in advancing; Si placed over Yin indicates difficulty in accomplishing tasks. Mao placed over Chen indicates harm from the lower position to the upper, leading to empty reputation and disputes over wealth with obstacles; Chen placed over Mao indicates unrest in the mind. Shen placed over Hai indicates harm from speed and deceit, leading to initial obstacles followed by some gain, but ultimately incomplete results; Hai placed over Shen indicates schemes that cannot be realized and matters without clear order. You placed over Xu indicates danger from darkness and confusion. Whenever disputes or legal matters involve the Six at the Top, it is advisable to maintain the status quo and receive little favor from others. The term 'reach' refers to obstruction, and its intensity lies between punishment and maleficent influence.
On Ding God
The "Ding deity" refers to the deity associated with change. It is determined by the branch in the current ten-day cycle that is paired with the character "Ding." In divination, only days with the heavenly stem "Geng" or "Xin" are associated with the occurrence of misfortune. Days with the heavenly stems "Ren" or "Gui" are associated with the movement of wealth. On days of Gengwu and Xinwei, the Ding deity is in the branch "Mao." "Mao" is the metal wealth, so misfortune arises due to the wife and also leads to calamity related to wealth. On days of Gengchen and Xinsi, the Ding deity is in the branch "Chou." "Chou" is the earth warehouse, so misfortune arises due to ancestral property and land. When "Chou" is strong and prosperous, it is considered as land; when it is weak and declining, it is considered as ancestral property. On days of Gengyin and Xinmao, the Ding deity is in the branch "Hai." "Hai" is water generated by metal, representing descendants, so misfortune arises due to sons and sons-in-law. On days of Gengzi and Xinchou, the Ding deity is in the branch "You." "You" is of the same type as "Geng" and "Xin," representing brothers, so misfortune arises due to brothers and also affects oneself ("Geng" represents the elder brother, "Xin" represents the younger brother, which refers to oneself). On days of Gengxu and Xinhai, the Ding deity is in the branch "Wei." "Wei" earth generates metal, representing parents, so misfortune arises due to parents and elders. On days of Gengshen and Xinyou, the Ding deity is in the branch "Si." "Si" fire overcomes metal, representing officials and spirits, so misfortune arises due to legal disputes and supernatural disturbances.
The壬 in the ten-day cycle is the place where water energy is hidden and stored. When combined with the six Dings, how could there be no effect? On days of Renshen and Guiyou, the Ding is in the卯, which is the son of wood, which is generated by water, thus indicating wealth related to offspring and children, which brings about a dangerous movement. On days of Renwu and Guiwei, the Ding is in the丑, which is earth that controls water, indicating wealth related to officials and ghosts, which brings about a dangerous movement. On days of Renchen and Guisi, the Ding is in the亥, which is water of the same type as the day stem, indicating wealth related to oneself and siblings, which brings about a dangerous movement. On days of Renyin and Guimao, the Ding is in the酉, which is metal that generates water, indicating wealth related to parents and elders, which brings about a dangerous movement. On days of Renzi and Guichou, the Ding is in the未, which is earth as an official, indicating wealth related to lawsuits, which brings about a dangerous movement. On days of Renxu and Guihai, the Ding is in the巳, which is fire as wealth for water, indicating wealth related to spouses and concubines, which brings about a dangerous movement. For example, on the day of Guiyou, although the initial transmission is the未, it cannot be taken as wealth, because the three transmissions are fire, which is the ghost of water, just like honey mixed with arsenic.

When encountering the Ding spirit, if it is used for divination about a missing person, it indicates the person has escaped to a distant place; if used for divination about thieves, it indicates the thief is hidden and difficult to capture; if used for divination about marriage, it indicates frequent separation and secret affairs; if used for divination about illness or lawsuits, it indicates darkness and difficulty in clarification, with grievances hard to resolve; if used for divination about an official, it indicates the official will go out to inspect. If the deity Ding is accompanied by the lesson patterns of 'Three Yang', 'Three Lights', 'Six Instruments', and 'Three Marvels', it indicates promotion in official position and smooth financial affairs. If it is accompanied by 'Three Yin', 'Spirit Transformation', 'Mourning-and-Condolence Spirit', 'Hidden Harm', and 'Funeral Guest', it suggests incurable illness. If it is accompanied by 'Heavenly Net', 'Heavenly Prison', 'Guanfu', and moving deities, it indicates that those previously suppressed can now rise, and unexpected changes may occur amidst harmony, requiring renewal between old and new. If it is accompanied by 'Lonely Deity', 'No Succession', and 'No Official Rank', there may be plots for revival and continuation. If it is accompanied by the lesson patterns of 'Disorder Leader', 'Stepson', and 'Dragon Strife', there will be extraordinary disturbances.
When encountering the "Closed Mouth" divination, the mouth cannot open; when encountering the "Cutting the Gate" divination, matters can be decided. When encountering the "Three Intersections" divination, it signifies a change of place; when encountering the "Wandering Child" divination, those who have left will not return. When encountering the "Single Master" and "Excess Woman" divinations, illness will occur after some time. When encountering the "Head" divination, fortune or misfortune lies with the superior, and once it is violated, it will definitely manifest. When encountering the "Re-examination" divination, fortune or misfortune lies with the subordinate, and once it is violated, it will definitely come to pass. When encountering the "Comparison" divination, people have a tendency to rebel and act against the will. When encountering the "Injury" divination, there is a tendency for troubles to arise. When encountering the "Return Chant" divination, the mind is inclined towards distant travel; when encountering the "Hidden Chant" divination, the chariot for returning home is in motion. If the "Teng Snake" and "Vermilion Bird" are also present, strange events will occur. In summary, when the "Ding" spirit moves, the still will desire movement, and the moving will not stop; trivial matters will arise, old matters will resurface, and those who have left will not return. If auspicious spirits are present, auspicious events will occur; if malevolent spirits are present, malevolent events will occur.
The song says: On a yang day, if a lesson of hidden chant occurs and there is the spirit of the heavenly stem Ding and the post-horse, the person who went out will return that day; on a yin day, even though the post-horse and Ding spirit appear, the person who went out may not necessarily turn back. Explanation: Lessons of hidden chant usually cause delays, and travelers do not come back. However, on a yang day, if the lesson includes the post-horse, the spirit of Ding, and the 'wandering evil', one can still hope for the traveler's return. On a yin day, only those who went out temporarily can return home, but those who went far still cannot come back. The method for calculating 'wandering evil' is to start from the second month's卯 and proceed in order through the twelve branches.
The song says: On a yang day, a hidden chant is called "self-reliance," meaning the matter can be entrusted to others; on a yin day, a hidden chant is called "self-trust," meaning one can only rely on oneself. Explanation: The god on the day stem is already active, and if it also moves to the day branch, with the god of this ten-day cycle, or if it is riding the Heavenly Horse and the Post-horse, then even in stillness, there is a demand for movement. For example, on the five hidden chant days ofRenchen, Wuwu, Bingchen, Jiayin, and Gengshen, the god of the ten-day cycle is within the three transmissions; addingGuiwei, Jiyou, Xinhai, and Guichou, making a total of nine days, if one visits people on these days, people are sure to be away, and the matter is first agreed upon but later changes, hence it is called "no reliance" and "no trust."
The Heavenly Horse is determined according to the month. If the divination does not include both the Heavenly Horse and the Post-horse, nor does it have the Decanal Ding, then the matter being considered will be stagnant and unable to start. If there is no Ding Horse, but the person's age and birth year are riding on "Hekui" (Xu) or "Tiangang" (Chen), then the matter will initiate more actively. For example, if the day is Gengzi and the divination is made in February or August, the Heavenly Horse follows the White Tiger into its temple, which indicates immobility. If one goes to visit someone, they can only meet them outside. The method of calculating the Heavenly Horse starts with Wu in the first month, and proceeds in order through Wu, Shen, Xu, Zi, Yin, and Chen, the six Yang positions.
The mnemonic says: "The Ding spirit is lively and ever-changing; when it enters the day branch representing the residence, one must change the door and alter the household, and even if one desires peace, it cannot be attained." The explanation states: When the Ding spirit is prosperous and strong and is placed on the residence position, it indicates that the family's dwelling is unstable, and there is an omen of changing doors and households. If the person's birth year and destiny, along with the three transmissions and four lessons, contain spirits that generate and support the day branch, then the house merely needs some modifications and can still be inhabited. However, if there are no spirits that generate and support the day branch, but instead bring about punishments, losses, and kongwang, then the house has already experienced a change, and it is no longer suitable to reside there.

If the Ding spirit falls in the positions of Mao, Chen, Si, Wu, Wei, and Shen, misfortune occurs during the day and should be guarded against during the day; if it falls in You, Xu, Hai, Zi, Chou, and Yin, misfortune occurs at night and should be guarded against at night. If there is a Saving God, the misfortune can be avoided; if there is no Saving God, one should hide and avoid danger until the number of days and months have passed before emerging.

If the day stem is in a state of birth or strength, it still cannot avoid bloodshed." Explanation: The spirit of Ding is riding on "Black Tortoise," "Thief God," and "Jiesha" to invade my territory. If the day stem is injured and accompanied by punishment and clash along with "Blood Branch" and "Blood Taboo," then I myself will be injured and bleed. Explanation: When the spirit of Ding is on the position of Yangren, it indicates warfare and killing; if it also carries Three Punishments, Great Sha, and Metal God, and the day stem is strong and flourishing, then killing people and invading others can be done. Explanation: The day branch and the birth year are the main gateways of a person. If the spirits on the day branch carry the 'bath tub', 'mountain', and 'grave', and the spirits on the birth year carry punishment and harm along with death qi and death deity, then both the heavenly stem and earthly branch of the year and birth year fall into death and grave, which definitely indicates death. The song诀 says: "The Mourning-and-Condolence spirit and the Guest-of-Condolence both enter the lesson and the personal year, causing one to wear white mourning clothes every day; it is either the loss of parents or the loss of close relatives, with cries shaking the heavens." Explanation: The Mourning-and-Condolence spirit is the second earthly branch before the year's stem, for example, in the year of Zi it is in Yin, and in the year of Chou it is in Mao. The Guest-of-Condolence is the second earthly branch after the year's stem, for example, in the year of Zi it is in Xu, and in the year of Chou it is in Hai. If these two evils appear in one's personal year, the main consequence is wearing mourning clothes.
The song says: On a Yihai day, if the day branch is not placed on Wei, there will be a woman involved in a lawsuit that brings about wrongdoing. Explanation: This is because the day branch has 'Tai Yin' riding on寅, and寅 is exactly 'Guanfu', while the final transmission is 'Heavenly Empress', and the three transmissions mutually injure each other, thus indicating that a woman is involved in litigation.
The song says: When the sun shines, all things receive warmth, and those who go with it will achieve great fame. Common people and artisans will have smooth affairs, while scholars and gentlemen will achieve success in official positions. Explanation: If the Month General (i.e., the sun) initiates the transmission and is accompanied by the Nobleman, it indicates holding a position of power. If it carries 'Imperial Book' and 'Imperial Edict', it signifies receiving imperial appointment. If it rides the Azure Dragon, it indicates a civil post; if it rides Tai Chang, it indicates a military post.
The song says: The sun carries resentment and sets behind the mountain, even though there is still some remaining light, it does not last long; after this period of sunlight, there is still something to be cautious of, and the originally approaching fame and fortune suddenly come to an end. Explanation: Counting from the寅 position to the酉 position, the sunlight does not reach, and thus people do not receive blessings, while villains gain power and give rise to misfortune (later it is also said that from酉 to寅 is entering the yin, and the two accounts differ slightly). If the month general is riding the parents' yao, it indicates the father's prominence; if it is riding the sons' yao, it indicates the son's success; the other six relations are interpreted in the same way. If it falls on an object, it signifies an object that brings wealth and prominence at the right time. If the month general is riding theBlack Tortoise, thieves who have fled can be captured; if it is riding theThe Post-horse, traveling will turn danger into safety and ensure a smooth journey.
The Month General carries the Sun and shines upon "Guanfu," making official disputes and lawsuits clear and transparent, and private grievances will be resolved by the authorities. If the Sun shines upon a sick person, it prevents evil spirits from harming them. The Sun is a position everyone likes, but it is avoided when it falls into emptiness, is overcome, or is buried. Moving from the You position to the Yin position is called "entering the Yin," which brings darkness and obscurity, meaning the Sun cannot shine. If the Sun is before the Day Branch, it indicates progress and is auspicious; if the Sun is after the Day Branch, it indicates retreat and is inauspicious.
The song says: When the current year's sovereign takes office as the nobleman, there is joy in promotion, transfer, and taking office. It is most unfavorable if there are punishments, clashes, emptiness, destruction, or harm. The timing of the outcome should be determined by triple harmony and mutual harmony. The explanation says: If the day stem and day branch reverse and overcome the age, birth year, and current year's sovereign, it indicates rebellion and defiance leading to misfortune. If the current year's sovereign overcomes the day stem, it harms the head of the family; if it overcomes the day branch, it harms the younger members, or causes family breakdown, theft, or relocation. If the nobleman is accompanied by death qi and tomb spirits, it indicates the death of the superior. If the current year's sovereign is on the day branch and acts as the mourning-and-condolence spirit, but it falls into emptiness or does not overcome the stem and branch, it should not be interpreted as a funeral. If the current year's sovereign acts as "Heavenly Net" and is accompanied by punishments and harm, it indicates imprisonment and calamity. The method of "Heavenly Net" is: in the first month,寅; second month,亥; third month,巳; fourth month,申, and so on in a cycle.
