If in the divination the three transmissions are successively generating the day stem, or if the god of the day branch assists the god on the day stem to generate the day stem, or if the heavenly general assists the three transmissions to generate the day stem, then all matters will be smooth and favorable, and it is appropriate to take action without waiting further. These three situations are all external forces continuously coming in, differing from relying solely on one's own strength. They are listed below as separate points.

"The 'Successive Generation' pattern: The three transmissions are successively generated to support each other, finally supporting the day stem. This pattern has two types. One type is when the day is Jia or Bing, and the three transmissions are Shen, Hai, and Yin: the first transmission Shen metal generates the middle transmission Hai water, Hai water generates the final transmission Yin wood, and Yin wood generates the day stem Jia or Bing fire. This indicates that there are three or four layers of relationships in between, with someone helping in the middle, so the matter will certainly be completed from beginning to end. Another type is when the day is Gengwu, and the three transmissions are Xu, Wu, and Yin: the final transmission Yin wood generates the middle transmission Wu fire, Wu fire generates the first transmission Xu earth, and Xu earth generates the day stem Geng metal. The interpretation is the same as before. If these patterns meet Kongwang, it means there will be much talk but little sincerity; once the year and month fill Kongwang, the matter can still be accomplished."

"The 'Assisting Life Qi Pattern' is divided into two types. One type is when the day branch helps the day stem to generate life qi: for example, on a Renxu day, if the stem is supported by Shen and the branch by Wei, the Wei earth generates the Shen metal on the stem, and the Shen metal then generates the day stem Ren water. The day branch adds extra support from behind. The other type is when the heavenly general helps the three transmissions to generate life qi: for example, on six days with the stem癸, if the three transmissions are You, Chou, and Si, forming a metal cycle to generate the day stem癸 water, and if the day is daytime, the heavenly general is a group of earth deities such as Nobleman, Gou Chen, and Tai Chang. Earth generates metal, thus lifting the life qi of the three transmissions even higher. Both types indicate that there must be someone helping either openly or secretly."

From the墓 (grave) to the生 (life), there will ultimately be good fortune.

The first transmission is a墓 (grave), and the final transmission is aGrowth (growth), which is called "self from grave to birth." For example, on aBingyin day, if the three transmissions are戌, 午, 寅: the first transmission戌 is the墓 of丙 fire, and the final transmission寅 is theGrowth of丙 fire, starting from the墓 and ending at theGrowth. This indicates old matters left behind are revived, and those who have resigned may be reinstated; although the beginning is difficult, there will be eventual success. Conversely, if it is "self from birth to grave" — for example, on anYiwei day, if the three transmissions are亥, 卯, 未: the first transmission亥 is theGrowth of wood, and the final transmission未 is the墓 of wood — this indicates that the beginning is prosperous, but later things fall apart and fail to succeed. The whole course of a divination lesson depends on the relationship between the first and final transmissions in terms of birth and grave.

Bright generates, dark controls, and the branches are scattered and confused.

On the surface, it appears to be a beneficial aspect, but in reality, it is actually harming and draining me. This is called 'apparent generation but hidden harm,' which indicates that all matters will be unfavorable. For example, on a Gengyin day, the stem is occupied by Si and the branch by Hai. Si is the long life of metal, and Hai is the long life of wood, so both are occupied by the long life energy, which seems good. However, upon closer examination, the day stem Geng metal is actually drained by Hai water (as metal generates water, which is a loss of energy), and the day branch Yin wood is also drained by Si fire. Both ends are being drained by others, so how can it be considered as generating? Another example is on a Gengzi day, where the stem is occupied by Si, which is the long life of metal, seemingly a favorable situation. However, if the night general is used, the first transmission is occupied by Teng Snake, which causes the wealth element to be attacked from above and below, preventing it from manifesting. The final transmission, although being the long life, is occupied by a ghost and the White Tiger, which areInauspicious General, leading to many unfavorable outcomes. All these examples demonstrate how favorable aspects can turn into unfavorable ones. When examining a divination chart, one should not only look at the names but also consider the actual directions of generation and harm.

Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches harmonize to bring joy and happiness.

When the day stem and day branch initiate the transmission and encounter a harmonious god, it forms a "Harmonious Joy" divination. Harmony has three levels: the first is heavenly stem harmony, such as Jia with Ji and Yi with Geng, which are the five harmonies among heavenly stems; the second is earthly branch harmony, such as Zi with Chou and Yin with You, which are the six harmonies among earthly branches; the third is triple harmony, such as Shen-Zi-Chen (Water triad) and Yin-Wu-Xu (Fire triad), which are the triple harmony formations. Heavenly stem harmony is the highest, earthly branch harmony is next, and triple harmony is the lowest. If the harmonious god enters the four lessons and three transmissions, it indicates mutual affection and mutual assistance, leading to success. It is suitable for seeking official rank, petitioning noblemen, making transactions, and discussing marriage. However, when divining about pregnancy and childbirth, it suggests a delayed birth; when divining about illness, it indicates difficulty in recovery; when divining about lawsuits, it suggests reconciliation is favorable; and when divining about capturing thieves, it suggests difficulty in apprehending them. Harmony signifies continuity and connection, so matters that should be concluded become unfavorable. If the initiating transmission includes both harmonious and conflicting or destructive pairs (such as Yin and You, or Shen and Si), it indicates internal good fortune and external misfortune, requiring effort to resolve the matter. If there are auspicious gods in the transmission, it can ultimately be accomplished. However, if the harmonious god instead overcomes the day stem, it indicates hidden harm within the harmony, and one should not entrust others to handle one's affairs.

"The Example of Both Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch Being in Harmony": When the heavenly stem above the day stem and the heavenly stem above the day branch form aLiu He (Liu He), and the palace where the day stem resides and the day branch itself also form aLiu He, then both inside and outside are harmonious. For example, on an Yiyou day encounteringHidden Chant (Hidden Chant), Yi resides in Chen and Chen harmonizes with You; on a Bingshen day or Wushen day encounteringHidden Chant, Bing and Wu reside in Si and Si harmonizes with Shen; on a Xinmao day encounteringHidden Chant, Xin resides in Xu and Xu harmonizes with Mao; on a RENYIN day encounteringHidden Chant, Ren resides in Hai and Hai harmonizes with Yin. This indicates harmony between upper and lower, coordination inside and outside, and smooth progress in affairs. However, it is not suitable for predicting lost items, escape, or concealment—when there is harmony, things stick together and do not scatter, making them difficult to find. (Original note: This example is most accurate when applied to伏吟 lessons.)

"Sky and Earth Stems and Branches are in mutual harmony": The Day Stem harmonizes with its upper god, and the Day Branch also harmonizes with its upper god. For example, on a Jiashen day, the Day Stem is Jia, which is associated with寅 (Yin), and寅 harmonizes with亥 (Hai); the Day Branch is Shen, which harmonizes with巳 (Si). Another example is on a Dingchou day, the Day Stem is Ding, which is associated with未 (Wei), and未 harmonizes with午 (Wu); the Day Branch is Chou, which harmonizes with子 (Zi). The interpretation is the same as the previous example, indicating harmony between internal and external factors.

"The Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches are in harmony": This refers to the Heavenly Stem and the Earthly Branch of the day being in a harmonious relationship. For example, on a Wuchen day, the Heavenly Stem is multiplied by Chou and the Earthly Branch by Zi, and Zi and Chou are harmonious. On a Xinwei day, the Heavenly Stem is multiplied by Yin and the Earthly Branch by Hai, and Yin and Hai are harmonious. The interpretation is the same as the previous example. This pattern indicates that a mediator will first reach an agreement, and then the matter will be completed.

"The六合 of Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches" refers to the combination of the day stem's palace and the day branch itself forming a六合. For example, on the days of Yiyou, Bingshen, Wushen, Xinmao, and Rennyin, either the heavenly stem's hidden god is added to the day branch, or the day branch is added to the heavenly stem's palace, both of which qualify for this pattern. All the aforementioned combinations are considered unfavorable if they fall into Kongwang, as a union that falls into Kongwang is merely empty joy.

"The Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branches are close and harmonious": The palace where the day stem resides and the day branch meet, the upper god forms aLiu He, and this god is of the same qi as the god where the day stem resides. For example, on a Renzi day, the stem is on Zi and the branch is on Chou; Zi and Chou form aLiu He. The branch Zi is added to the palace where the day stem resides, and Zi is of the same water qi as the亥 where the Ren stem resides. On a Bingwu day or a Wuwu day, the stem is on Wu and the branch is on Wei; Wu and Wei form aLiu He. The branch Wu is added to the palace where the day stem resides, and Wu is of the same fire qi as the巳 where the Bing or Wu stem resides. Thus, the gods harmonize with each other, and the qi connect with each other, and matters can be accomplished quickly. There are no other examples. (The original text had a '谓' at the beginning mistakenly written as three characters; this is recorded as is.)

"The 'Outer Harmony, Inner Harm' pattern": The heavenly stem and earthly branch of the day's stem and the heavenly stem and earthly branch of the day's branch may form aLiu He (Liu He), but the Earthly Branches beneath them are actually harmful to each other. For example, on a Xinyou day, the stem is乘 (occupied by) Wei and the branch is乘 by Wu, Wu and Wei form aLiu He; however, the Earthly Branch associated with Xin (Xu) and the day's branch (You) are in a harmful relationship on the Earth Plate. "槎砑" means uneven and conflicting: it indicates that things appear harmonious on the surface but are actually problematic underneath. If this harmony falls in the旬空 (decade void), the harmony is illusory while the harm is real, making the situation even more dangerous.

The mutual combination of the vehicle and the carriage together maintain harmony.

When the heavenly stem on the day stem combines with the day branch, and the heavenly stem on the day branch combines with the day stem, they form aLiu He (Liu He) by crossing each other, which is called "crossing car六合" (jiao che liu he). For example, on a Jiazi day, the heavenly stem on the day stem is Chou, which combines with the day branch Zi; the heavenly stem on the day branch is Hai, which combines with the stem of the day's hidden stem, which is Yin. Another example is on a Gengwu day, the heavenly stem on the day stem is Wei, which combines with the day branch Wu; the heavenly stem on the day branch is Si, which combines with the hidden stem of Geng, which is Shen. This pattern is favorable for matters involving negotiation and transactions. However, it is not suitable for matters such as illness, lawsuits, or lost items, as these situations tend to be stuck and difficult to resolve. This pattern applies to every day except the five days of eight special days, and the fortune of each day is listed below.

The "Intersecting Vehicles and Joyful Pattern" has two types. The first type is generation and harmony: for example, if the divination is done on a Jia Shen day, the heavenly stem is乘 by Si, and Si is the growth of Shen metal; the earthly branch is乘 by Hai, and Hai is the growth of Jia wood. Both sides intersect and carry the energy of growth, making it most suitable for partnership in one's own business. The second type is wealth harmony: for example, if the divination is done on an Xin Chou day, the heavenly stem is乘 by Zi, and Zi water is the wealth of Chou earth; the earthly branch is乘 by Mao, and Mao wood is the wealth of Xin metal. Both sides intersect and carry wealth, making it most suitable for trading for profit. (The original text mistakenly wrote "for the southern branch" instead of "for the branch's wealth.")

The "Intersecting Vehicles Prohibited Pattern" has five types. The first is刑合 (self-punishment conjunction): For example, on a Guimao day, the stem is乘戌 (mounted on Xu) and the branch is乘子 (mounted on Zi), although the intersecting vehicles form aLiu He (six harmonies), the two spirits each刑 (punish) the day stem and branch, indicating harmony with competition. The second is害合 (harm conjunction): For example, on a Dingchou day, the stem is乘子 (mounted on Zi) and the branch is乘午 (mounted on Wu), although the intersecting vehicles form aLiu He (six harmonies), the two spirits each害 (harm) the day stem and branch, indicating conspiracy with hidden harm. The third is冲合 (clash conjunction): For example, on a Jiashen day, the stem is乘巳 (mounted on Si) and the branch is乘亥 (mounted on Hai), although the intersecting vehicles form aLiu He (six harmonies), but Si and Hai directly clash, indicating initial harmony followed by separation. The fourth is克合 (control conjunction): For example, on a Gengzi day, the stem is乘丑 (mounted on Chou) which controls the day branch, and the branch is乘巳 (mounted on Si) which controls the day stem, indicating disputes in dealings. The fifth is空合 (empty conjunction): For example, on a Xinhai day, the stem is乘寅 (mounted on Yin) and the branch is乘卯 (mounted on Mao), both falling into the旬空 (decade void), indicating something that starts but does not finish.

There is also a concept called "tuo he" (disconnection and combination). For example, on a Wuchen day, if the day stem is covered by You, the You metal drains the energy of the day branch Chen earth; and if the day branch is covered by Shen, the Shen metal drains the energy of the day stem Wu earth. Although they appear to be combining, in reality they are each draining the energy of the other. This indicates that in interactions, both parties are secretly trying to weaken each other and take advantage of the other.

When the heavenly stems and earthly branches form aLiu He (Liu He), the heavenly stem on the day stem and the heavenly stem derived from the day stem also form aFive Harmony (Five Harmony). For example, on a Jiaxu day, the day stem is Jia, and the heavenly stem on the day stem is卯 (Mao). Mao and the day branch戌 (Xu) form aLiu He. The heavenly stem derived from Mao is己 (Ji), and Jia and Ji form aFive Harmony. Similarly, on a Bingchen day, the day stem is Bing, and the heavenly stem on the day stem is酉 (You). You and the day branch Chen form aLiu He. The heavenly stem derived from You is辛 (Xin), and Xin and Bing form aFive Harmony. This situation of double harmony indicates joy in relationships and suitability for both reputation and wealth. (There are also ten other cases, but they are not listed here.)

"Intersecting in the六合, two yin spirits also form a harmonious combination": The heavenly stem and earthly branch have already formed aLiu He, and the two yin spirits also form aLiu He with each other. For example, on a Yichou day, the heavenly stem is accompanied by Zi and the earthly branch by You, forming an intersectingLiu He. Then looking at the yin spirits, the one on the heavenly stem is Shen and the one on the earthly branch is Si, which also form a perfectLiu He. Both the yang and yin positions are harmonious, indicating that the internal and external aspects are converging, making it most favorable for proposing marriage.

Three and six harmonize with each other in sound.

If the Triple Harmony Formation enters the Three Transmissions, then the three deities of Growth, Prosperity, and Storage each occupy their own position but combine into one, making it possible for matters to come together smoothly. However, the outcome will take a long time to conclude because there are many involved parties. If another deity, either on the Day Stem or Day Branch, forms a Liu He with one of the deities in the formation, it is called 'San Liu Xiang Hu'. If the stem and branch form a mutualLiu He, it is called 'San Liu Xiang Hui'. This is especially auspicious for matters such as forming partnerships or entering into marriages. The details are listed below.

The "San Liu Xiang Hu Ge" pattern refers to when the three transmitters form a complete set, and another deity on the day stem or day branch forms aLiu He with the deities in the set. This is called San Liu Xiang Hu. For example, on a Bingzi day, if the three transmitters are Shen, Chen, and Zi, forming a water set, and the day stem's Chou forms a六合 with Zi (Zi and Chou combine), then it is San Liu Xiang Hu. On a Renwu day, if the three transmitters are Wei, Hai, and Mao, forming a wood set, and the day branch's Xu forms aLiu He with Mao (Mao and Xu combine), then it is also San Liu Xiang Hu. (In addition, there are seven other cases: on Renwu and Renyin days, the deity on the day stem is Wei; on Bingshen, Bingchen, Wushen, and Wuchen days, the deity on the day stem is Chou; and on Yiyou day, the deity on the day branch is Chou.) This pattern indicates that any plan can be realized smoothly without obstacles. The classic text says: "San Liu Xiang Hu brings joy, even if there is an evil deity, it does not cause anger." The term "carrying an evil deity" refers to the deity that forms theLiu He being either the day's official ghost or a detached energy. Even in such cases, it does not harm the person. Moreover, if the deity is originally the day's wealth or a deity that generates the day, it is even better. (If the六合 is in an empty position, it can still be used once the empty position is filled by the person's destiny year, or by the current year, month, or day.) However, this pattern is not suitable for divination regarding the resolution of worries or doubts; when divining about illness, it is ominous—because theLiu He is fixed and does not disperse, the illness remains and does not leave.

The "Three and Six Convergence Pattern" refers to the three transmitters forming a harmonious combination, while the day stem and day branch also form a mutual combination, which is called Three and Six Convergence. For example, on a Bingzi day, if the three transmitters are Shen, Chen, and Zi, they form a water pattern; the day stem's Chou combines with the day branch's Zi, and the day branch's Shen also combines with the day stem's lodging palace. This indicates that people from both inside and outside will offer assistance, leading to the successful negotiation of cooperative matters. If among the three transmitters there is a hidden stem that transforms into an official ghost, there will inevitably be disputes later on; conversely, if there is an initial dispute, later on it may turn into harmony.

"The day branch forms a complete set with the three transmissions": The three transmissions could normally form a complete set, but they are missing one spirit. This missing spirit is exactly provided by the day stem or day branch, completing the set. This is called forming a set by coincidence. If the spirit added is a good one, the outcome is favorable; if it is a bad one, the outcome is unfavorable. For example, on a Guimao day, the three transmissions are Wei, You, and Hai, missing the Mao. The day stem is riding on Mao to complete the set. If the divination is done at night, the Mao is riding on the nobleman, indicating assistance from a nobleman. Another example is on a Jisi day, the three transmissions are Hai, Chou, and Mao, missing the Wei. The day branch is riding on Wei to complete the set. If the divination is done at night, the Wei is riding on the Teng Snake, indicating worries, doubts, and fear.

The combination is in the middle, but it incurs aInauspicious Sha, like honey containing arsenic.

In a Triple Harmony divination, if a god on the day stem or day branch forms a crime, harm, or clash with a god within the chart, it is called 'harmony with a curse.' It is like adding arsenic to honey, where there is certainly an obstruction. For example, on an Yihai day, the three transmissions are Wei, Mao, and Hai, forming a wood chart, and the day stem is multiplied by Zi, which forms a crime with Mao; on a Bingyin day, the three transmissions are Xu, Wu, and Yin, forming a fire chart, and the day stem is multiplied by Chou, which forms a six harm with Wu; on a Jiazi day, the three transmissions are Chen, Shen, and Zi, forming a water chart, and the day stem is multiplied by Wu, which forms a six clash with Zi. This indicates that kindness turns into enmity, and there is a flaw hidden within the harmony. The classic text says: 'Triple Harmony with a curse is little known, only beware of being deceived in good situations, a knife behind a smile is hard to detect, and when things are about to succeed, the advantage is lost.' If one wishes to accomplish something, it must wait until the day when the cursed god is removed by a clash, or until the cursed god itself falls into Kongwang, or until the person seeking the divination has a god in their birth year that can control it, then it can be successful.

The "External Harmony, Internal Separation" pattern occurs when the Triple Harmony is already in the transmission, and the Day Stem and Day Branch also form a mutual connection. However, the two deities involved in the mutual connection mutually punish, clash, and control each other, which is called External Harmony and Internal Separation. For example, on a Jiazi day, the three transmissions are Xu, Wu, and Yin, forming a fire trinity. The Day Stem is on Xu and the Day Branch is on Shen, and the mutual connection is at a point of mutual control. On a Xinchou day, the three transmissions are Si, Chou, and You, forming a metal trinity. The Day Stem is on Wu and the Day Branch is on You, and the mutual connection is at a point of mutual harm. This indicates that although the appearance seems harmonious, there are doubts and suspicions in the heart. Other cases can be similarly inferred.

The prosperity or decline of wealth depends on the time.

The wealth hexagram should not be too strong: if it is too strong, it will establish its own domain and not be willing to serve as my wealth, so it is actually better for it to be weak and confined. Only when the wealth is something that I can control does it count as my wealth. For example, on a day with the day stem Dingsi, if the three transmissions are Shen, You, and Xu, these are all wealth for the Dingsi fire. If the divination takes place in summer, this wealth can be obtained, because the day stem Dingsi fire is in its season and strong enough to control the metal. However, if the divination takes place in autumn, the metal is at its peak, and the wealth is only concerned with its own strength and prosperity, while the Dingsi fire is weak and confined in autumn and unable to control the metal. How can we obtain this wealth? The saying "the generation of metal does not fear dead fire, the generation of water does not fear dead earth" refers exactly to this principle: an element that is in its season does not fear being controlled by an element that is out of its season. Therefore, when judging wealth, we must first consider the season, and we cannot simply say there is wealth just because there is a wealth hexagram.

The "Three Wealths Pattern" refers to having the wealth of the day stem, the wealth of the day branch, and the wealth of the birth stem all present. For example, on a Jiaxu day, if someone born in Wu comes to consult, the day stem is Chen, which is the wealth of Jia wood; the day branch is Zi, which is the wealth of Xu earth; and the birth stem is Wu, which is the wealth of the birth stem. Another example is on a Wushen day, if someone born in Hai comes to consult, the day stem is Zi, which is the wealth of Wu earth; the day branch is Mao, which is the wealth of Shen metal; and the birth stem is Wu, which is the wealth of Hai water. If all three places have wealth and they are in a prosperous and strong condition, then seeking wealth will certainly bring great success.

"The External Wealth Enters the Interior Pattern": When the day stem's wealth爻 falls on the day branch's two lessons, this is called external wealth entering the interior, indicating the acquisition of wealth; when divining about business operations, it certainly indicates that goods will be very prosperous. For example, on a day of Bingxu, the yang spirit on the day branch is You, and the yin spirit is Shen, You and Shen are both wealth for Bing fire, precisely falling on the dwelling position. (In addition, there are six other days: Wuxu, Jichou, Gengchen, Xinchou, Renchen, and Guiwei.) Conversely, when the day branch's wealth爻 falls on the day stem's two lessons, it indicates spending out wealth. For example, on a day of Jisi, the yang spirit on the day stem is Shen, and the yin spirit is You, Shen and You are both wealth for Si fire, but they fall on the person's position. (In addition, there are eleven other days: Xinsi, Guichou, Dingsi, Xinchou, Xinwei, Guiwei, Jiyou, Guiyou, Yihai, Dinghai, and Jihai.) However, among the cases of spending out wealth, there are both good and bad outcomes: On Xinsi day, the day stem is multiplied by You, which is the旺禄 of Xin; on Dingsi day, the day stem is multiplied by Shen, which is also the wealth of Ding; on Jihai day, the day stem is multiplied by Wu, which is the birth god for Ji. These three are all good. On Guiyou day, the day stem is multiplied by Yin, which drains the Qi of Gui water, thus it is not good. On Xinchou day, the two lessons of the day stem see Hai and Zi, the two lessons of the day branch see Yin and Mao, and the three transmissions are Yin, Mao, and Chen, indicating that the amount coming in is greater than that going out. On Guiwei day, the two lessons of the day stem see Zi and Hai, the two lessons of the day branch see Wu and Si, and the three transmissions are Si, Chen, and Mao. Although the initial transmission is wealth, the middle transmission Chen is both the ghost of Gui and the burial place of water, and the final transmission Mao is also a loss of Qi, thus the amount coming in is insufficient to cover the amount going out.

Carefully examine the transformation of the ghost into wealth.

This passage discusses two situations where wealth and official ghosts are entangled: one is when the Triple Harmony Formation acts as wealth, but this wealth instead generates official ghosts for the day stem and day branch; the other is when the Three Transmissions function as official ghosts, with two lessons falling under Kongwang, leaving only one character as wealth. Both cases need careful distinction, and one should not be overly pleased upon seeing the wealth element. The details are listed below.

"The Transmission of Wealth Producing Ghosts Pattern": The three transmissions are all wealth, but they go on to generate the official ghost of the day stem or day branch. For example, on a Xinhai day, the three transmissions are Wei, Mao, and Hai, forming a wood trinity. Wood is the wealth of Xinhai gold, but this wood goes on to generate the fire of the day stem, which is the ghost of Xinhai gold. The ghost is nourished and turns back to harm the day stem. Another example is on a Yihai day, the three transmissions are Chou, Xu, and Wei, all earth. Earth is the wealth of Yihai wood, but this earth goes on to generate the metal of the day branch, which is the ghost of Yihai wood. In both examples, the fortune is certain to bring disaster due to seeking wealth. The person's birth year and age must have a god that can control the ghost to avoid misfortune. This type of divination is only suitable for purchasing an official position, as it allows wealth to be exchanged for an official post, enabling wealth to generate officials without harming oneself.

"The Transmission of Ghost Transforming Wealth Pattern": The three transmissions are originally official ghosts, but two of them fall into Kongwang, leaving only one character as wealth. For example, on a Bingshen day, if the three transmissions are Zi, Shen, and Chen, the initial transmission Zi and final transmission Chen are both official ghosts of Bingshen fire and fall into Kongwang, leaving only the middle transmission Shen metal as wealth. This kind of wealth is obtained from danger, and even if it is obtained, it is not secure. If the person's own birth year and age also have the day's ghost, misfortune will occur, and there is no way to obtain wealth at all.

Ding Ma enters the transmission to attract wealth quickly

When the wealth hexagram is accompanied by the Ding god or the Post-horse and initiates the transmission, it indicates that the wealth moves most quickly. For example, on days of Gengwu and Xinwei, seeing the卯 (Mao) hexagram (which is Dingmao in the Jiazi cycle, and wood is the wealth for a metal day), on days of Jiaxu and Yihai, seeing the丑 (Chou) hexagram (which is Dingchou in the Jiaxu cycle, and earth is the wealth for a wood day), on days of Wuzi and Jichou, seeing the亥 (Hai) hexagram (which is Dinghai in the Jiashen cycle, and water is the wealth for an earth day), on days of Bingshen and Dingyou, seeing the酉 (You) hexagram (which is Dingyou in the Jiawu cycle, and metal is the wealth for a fire day), on days of Jiachen and Yisi, seeing the未 (Wei) hexagram (which is Dingwei in the Jiachen cycle, and earth is the wealth for a wood day), on days of Renxu and Guihai, seeing the巳 (Si) hexagram (which is Dingsi in the Jiayin cycle, and fire is the wealth for a water day)—these are all cases where the Ding god is exactly on the wealth hexagram. Among these, on days of Jichou and Guihai, the wealth god is also the Post-horse, so the wealth moves even faster. Additionally, if the Ren and Gui heavenly stems encounter both Ding and the Post-horse in the transmission, the situation is the same. Details can be found in the section titled '要将' (Transmission of the Wealth).

The transmission will assist in giving birth to benefits and gains.

The three transmissions form a single set, and they go back to support the wealth hexagram on the day stem or day branch, which is called "transmission aiding birth." For example, on a Jichou day, the stem is covered by亥, which is water and the wealth for Jichou earth. The three transmissions are酉, 丑, and巳, forming a metal set, which generates water, thus supporting this wealth. Another example is on a Renxu day, the three transmissions are未, 卯, and亥, forming a wood set, which generates fire, supporting the fire on the day branch, which is the wealth for the戌 earth. Both situations are very favorable for seeking wealth. It is important not to regard this as a loss of energy: although the energy is released, if it is released to the wealth, it is gathering wealth, different from losing it completely. Even if the wealth hexagram falls in Kongwang, this pattern can still be used.

The principle of "Branch God Assisting Wealth" can be understood as explained in the previous section: if there is a wealth yao on the day stem, and the day branch's god also generates this wealth yao, it signifies that the branch supports the wealth. For example, on a Dingmao day, if the day stem is occupied by Shen, Shen metal is the wealth for Ding fire; and if the day branch is occupied by Chen, Chen earth generates Shen metal. This is like the family helping to increase one's wealth. In all cases, the same principle applies, and it is favorable for seeking wealth.

"The Heavenly General Assists Wealth Pattern": When the three transmitters are all wealth, and the Heavenly General comes to generate these three transmitters. For example, if the day is the sixth Jia day, and the three transmitters are You, Chou, and Si, forming a metal pattern, metal is the wealth of Bing fire; if the divination is done at night, and the Nobleman, Gou Chen, and Tai Chang appear, which belong to the earth element, the earth generates metal, thus raising the wealth pattern even higher. This is very favorable for seeking wealth. However, if this pattern appears in a divination about illness, it is extremely dangerous—wealth being strong will harm the official star and injure the body, which the patient cannot bear.

Volume Six · Additional Remarks on the Method of Divination Five: Malevolent Stars

Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches combine with ghosts, leading to calamity.

"The 'ghost' is a spirit that harms the body. For days with Jia or Yi as the day stem, the metal element is the ghost; for days with Bing or Ding, the water element is the ghost; for days with Wu or Ji, the wood element is the ghost; for days with Geng or Xin, the fire element is the ghost; and for days with Ren or Gui, the earth element is the ghost. If the ghost appears in the divination, and among the four lessons, three transmissions, and the year's destiny, there is a god that generates me which can transform this ghost, then this ghost becomes 'official'; if there is no such generating god in these six places, then it is truly a ghost. The old saying that a yang element overcoming a yang stem and a yin element overcoming a yin stem is considered a ghost, while a yin overcoming a yang stem and a yang overcoming a yin stem is considered an official, is not accurate (the original text mistakenly wrote 'generating me' as 'generating me's review'). If the ghost is used in the initiating transmission and is located on the day stem or day branch, the divination result is mostly unfavorable; however, if this ghost also has the day's virtue, five harmony, or strong energy, there may be some good in the bad.所谓 'virtue and harmony' refers to when on the day of Yi, the element of Shen appears; on the day of Ding, the element of Hai appears; on the day of Ji, the element of Yin appears; and on the day of Xin, the element of Si appears. These are not only the day's virtue but also form the five harmony with the day stem.the so-called 'strong energy' refers to, for example, on the day of Wu Chen, if the three transmissions are Mao, Yin, and Chou, and the divination is done in spring, the wood ghost is strong and thus does not harm. If the divination is done in summer, autumn, or winter, it remains unfavorable."

The "Dry Branches Carry Ghosts" pattern refers to a situation where the day stem and day branch each carry a ghost. For example, on a Wuchen day (戊辰), the stem is carried by卯 (Mao) and the branch by寅 (Yin), both of which are ghosts ofWu Earth (Wu Tu). On a Bingwu day (丙午), the stem is carried by亥 (Hai) and the branch by子 (Zi), both of which are ghosts ofBing Fire (Bing Huo). When the day stem and day branch each carry their respective ghosts, if this is applied to a person, it indicates harm to the body; if applied to a house, it indicates damage to the dwelling; if applied to a legal case, both parties are equally liable. If these ghosts fall into the Kongwang (空亡), there is no need to be concerned. However, it is still preferable to have a deity that can control them.

The "Mutual Control of Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch" pattern occurs when the heavenly stem above the day stem controls the day branch, and the earthly branch above the day branch controls the day stem, resulting in a crosswise mutual control. For example, on a Guimao day, the heavenly stem is carried by Shen, which is metal and controls the day branch Mao, which is wood. Meanwhile, the earthly branch is carried by Xu, which is earth and controls the day stem Guimao, which is water. Another example is on a Renwu day, where the heavenly stem is carried by Zi, which is water and controls the day branch Wu, which is fire. Meanwhile, the earthly branch is carried by Wei, which is earth and controls the day stem Renwu, which is water. This pattern indicates mutual harm between the person and the house, or between oneself and others, with both parties harboring grievances and disputes in their hearts.

"The Upward Disarray Pattern": When the god of the day branch attacks the day stem from above and initiates the transmission, it is called upward disarray. For example, on a Gengwu day, the god of the day branch, Wu, is placed on the day stem's host, Shen, and initiates the transmission, with Wu fire attacking Geng metal. This indicates that a younger relative offends an elder, causing disorder within the family, and one should not take any action. If among the six places there is a god that can overcome this, it is called "the afflicted gate has a remedy," and there will be no harm. Conversely, when the god of the day stem is placed on the day branch and is attacked by the day branch, it is called "self-induced disarray." For example, on a Gengwu day, the day stem's host, Shen, is placed on the day branch, Wu, and initiates the transmission, with Wu fire below attacking Shen metal above. This indicates that the superior party first loses propriety, leading to the inferior party's offense. The interpretation is the same as before.

"Branch God Assists the Restraining and Forming a Pattern": For example, on a Yihai day, if the heavenly stem is occupied by You, then You metal restrains the day stem Yi wood; meanwhile, the day branch is occupied by Chen, which earth nourishes You metal, equivalent to helping the ghost gain strength. This indicates that a family member turns against the person and helps an outsider commit evil deeds, making the calamity even worse. When examining the ghost, one must not only look at the ghost itself but also check if there is someone assisting it nearby.

"The Three Transmissions Successive Harm" is divided into two types. One type is successive harm from bottom to top: for example, on a Bingzi day, the three transmissions are Zi, Wei, Yin. The final transmission Yin wood harms the middle transmission Wei earth, Wei earth harms the initial transmission Zi water, and Zi water then harms the day stem Bing fire. Each layer harms the one above it. This indicates that people are harmed in sequence, suffering from slander and defamation from many mouths. If someone in an official position divines this, they will certainly be impeached. The other type is successive harm from top to bottom: for example, on a Bingchen day, the three transmissions are Yin, Wei, Zi. The initial transmission Yin wood harms the middle transmission Wei earth, Wei earth harms the final transmission Zi water, and Zi water then harms the day stem Bing fire. The interpretation is the same as the previous case.

"Full Plate of Ghosts Pattern": For example, on a Guiwei day encountering a hidden chant, all four lessons and three transmissions are earth, meaning all are ghostly enemies of the Gui water. A large area of earth surrounds a single drop of water, with no trace of life qi, reaching the extreme of misfortune. This pattern can only be resolved if the person seeking divination has their birth year and destiny connected to寅 or卯 wood to restrain the earth. This pattern applies only to the eight lessons of Guiwei and Guichou days.
