Miscellaneous: Family fortune and misfortune, analogy, Six Relations, Triple Harmony, Qimen and Taiyi, chasing the Yin spirit, adding Heavenly Stems

家人貴賤。一人來占命，或占一事，設問及家中人休咎，各問其年庚，看其上乘何將、何神煞，以卜目前之吉凶動靜。又視其二貴來夾命者，某人必貴之類，而一家之貴賤分矣。

To determine the fortune of family members, if someone comes for a fortune telling or consults about an event, they may also inquire about the fortune of other family members. Then, each person's birth year and heavenly stem are asked. By examining which heavenly stem is occupied by a particular heavenly general or divine omen, one can predict the current fortune and changes. Then, if someone's destiny is between the day nobleman and night nobleman, that person is sure to be prominent. By examining this way, the distinction of fortune among family members becomes clear.

類推。有一占病判訖，見酉支上臨子，曰：家中當胎喜，一陰而二陽。其人曰：三媳各有妊。因其言年庚而推其行年，天盤屬陽者男，屬陰者女，後一女二男，皆如其占。又一占病，而見玄武支上發用，定當失賊，果然。

He gave two examples of deduction. Once, after divining a disease, he saw the branch You with Zi on top, and said: "Your family is going to have a happy pregnancy, one girl and two boys." The person replied that all three of his daughters-in-law were pregnant. Then he asked them to report their birth years, and calculated their ages. Those whose ages fell on a yang position on the Heaven Plate would give birth to boys, and those on a yin position would give birth to girls. Later, indeed, one girl and two boys were born, exactly as predicted. Another time, when divining a disease, he saw Xuanwu issuing from the day branch, and concluded that there would certainly be a theft. Later, it indeed happened.

六親類推。陽干生今日為父，陰干生今日為母，陽支生今日為叔，陰支生今日為嬸，納音陽干生今日為外翁，納音陰干生今日為外母。今日比陽干為兄弟，今日比陰干為姊妹。今日生陽支為侄，今日生陰支為侄女，納音今日生陽干為外孫，納音今日生陰支為外甥女。今日克陰干為妻，今日克陰支為妾。納音亦四課，止取旬遁。

The method of classifying the Six Relations. Any yang heavenly stem that is born on the same day is considered the father, and any yin heavenly stem that is born on the same day is considered the mother. Any yang earthly branch that is born on the same day is considered the uncle, and any yin earthly branch that is born on the same day is considered the aunt. According to the Nayin sound element, any yang heavenly stem that is born on the same day is considered the maternal grandfather, and any yin heavenly stem that is born on the same day is considered the maternal grandmother. Any yang heavenly stem that harmonizes with the day is considered the brother, and any yin heavenly stem that harmonizes with the day is considered the sister. Any yang earthly branch that is born on the same day is considered the nephew, and any yin earthly branch that is born on the same day is considered the niece. According to the Nayin sound element, any yang heavenly stem that is born on the same day is considered the grandson, and any yin earthly branch that is born on the same day is considered the granddaughter. Any yin heavenly stem that is overcome by the day is considered the wife, and any yin earthly branch that is overcome by the day is considered the concubine. The Nayin sound element is also paired according to the Four Lessons, but only the heavenly stem that appears in the ten-day cycle is used as the standard.

假令庚年正月甲寅日酉時占，日上土神用。甲日以辰為財，其為子孫何也？為日上遁得丙為子孫，將六合木與今比和為吉；若乘太陰、白虎克日，木為鬼，財化為鬼也。餘見《課金集》十干圖。

For example, if a divination is made on the day of Jiayin (甲寅) in the first lunar month of the Geng year at the You hour, the initiating transmission is taken from the earth god on the day stem. On the day of Jia, the earth god is Chen (辰) soil, which is considered the wife and wealth. But why is it regarded as the son here? Because the heavenly stem hidden on the day stem is Bing (丙), which is the son generated by the Jia wood. This position also carries Liu He (六合), which belongs to wood and harmonizes with the day stem Jia wood, so the divination is favorable. If instead it were carried by Tai Yin or White Tiger, which would come to overcome the day stem, then the wood would become a ghost, and the wealth would turn into a ghost as well. 三合。以當時令為主，如春得曲直、冬得潤下者，誠遇之。雖不作官文而作兄財，亦主見取，而且前刊生日更佳。

On Triple Harmony, the key is whether the Triple Harmony is in season: for example, in spring getting the curve and straight (wood formation), or in winter getting the moist and downward (water formation), is truly in season. Such a formation, even if not considered as official stars or documents, regarded as brothers or wife and wealth, still indicates being appreciated and selected by others; and even better if it is placed earlier and can nourish the day stem.

刻日期。以克用之日為憑，如用屬水，以土日為刻期；用屬火，以水日為刻期。干支皆看。

Another method to determine the time of response is to use the day that can control the useful god. For example, if the useful god is water, then the day of earth is the time of response; if the useful god is fire, then the day of water is the time of response. When determining, both the heavenly stem and earthly branch should be considered.

加入奇門太乙。一越人壬數甚驗，問其故，曰：進一層加奇門以斷事，再進一層加入太乙，則精甚也。予謂壬數無不可加入，子平、易數、拆字、觀梅、七政、地理，又何嘗不驗乎？

Incorporate the methods of Qi Men and Tai Yi as well. There is a person from the Yue region who is extremely accurate in using Liu Ren divination. When asked the reason, he said: go one step further, incorporate Qi Men into the interpretation; go another step further, incorporate Tai Yi into the interpretation, and it becomes very precise. I think there is nothing in Liu Ren that cannot be incorporated: Zi Ping命理, Yi Shu, character analysis, Plum Blossom Numerology, Seven Stars and Celestial Positions, and Feng Shui geography, when incorporated, are no less effective.

追陰神。四課是干支之陰神，三傳又四課之陰神。凡用神皆有陰神，直追到底，遇空則止，吉凶見矣。能追陰神，則雖學問平常，思過半矣。一雲間人慣用此法，頗驗。

The method of pursuing the Yin spirit. The four lessons are originally the Yin spirits of the day stem and day branch, and the three transmissions are again the Yin spirits of the four lessons. Any useful god has its own Yin spirit, and one follows it layer by layer until it reaches the place of emptiness, where the fortune or misfortune becomes evident. Those who know how to pursue the Yin spirit, even if their learning is ordinary, have already grasped most of this method. There is a person from Yunjian (Songjiang) who is accustomed to using this method, and it is quite effective.

加天干。於天盤上加入天干，遠事於歲月上多加，近事只加日時，而以天干再配六親，以定吉凶，決日期。

The method of adding heavenly stems is to place the heavenly stems on the heaven plate. For divination about distant matters, the heavenly stems are added mainly on the sovereign and month builder; for matters concerning the near future, they are added only on the day and hour. Then these heavenly stems are used to match the six relations: parents, brothers, sons, wife and wealth, officials and ghosts. Based on this matching, the fortune is judged and the date when the outcome will be realized is determined.
