First, we discuss the De Shen. The Five Virtues refer to the Annual Virtue, Heavenly Virtue, Monthly Virtue, Daily Virtue, and Branch Virtue. They are all deities who bestow grace and spread virtue, capable of transforming misfortune into good fortune. They can also, like the Month General, resolve punishments and injuries. When they appear in divination, they should be given particular attention.

The tenth item is mutual harmony. Harmony means being amicable and close, while inharmony indicates being distant. There is harmony between earthly branches, such as Zi and Chou combining; there is also harmony between heavenly stems, as the original text gives the example of Jia combining with Wei. As for triple harmony, it forms a set, such as Si, You, and Chou combining to form the metal set, and Hai, Mao, and Wei combining to form the wood set. Such harmonious sets involve many people and have wide-ranging implications. They represent an image where various contradictions are unified.

The eleventh item is the禄元, which is the禄神 of the day stem. If the禄神 is present on the self or enters the three transmissions, and is prosperous and strong, it is auspicious. The area where the禄神 is located indicates the direction where one can obtainofficial stipend. If it is only present on the day branch, it is only temporary, and it is most忌 to fall intoKongwang. The twelfth item is官鬼. If there are too many官鬼 in the lesson pattern and the three transmissions, nothing will go smoothly. Nighttime ghosts indicate confusion of the self, while daytime ghosts indicate disputes with the government, both due to being controlled by others and unable to act freely. At such times, one should strive to strengthen oneself and endeavor to counteract these forces before advancing.

The thirteenth item is the Storage. The Storage is dark and obscure, blocked and unsmooth, so it must be clearly distinguished. To move from darkness to light, one must seek the place that opens the Storage to save oneself, thus leading to good fortune. The fourteenth item is the Terminal Point. Even in a terminal situation, one can still meet the God of Growth and thus turn it into good fortune. The fifteenth item is punishment and clash. Punishment means injury, and mutual punishment indicates discord. The punishment between Zi and Mao is called the punishment of disrespect. The trine punishments between Yin and Si, and between Chou, Xu, and Wei are called the punishment of no kindness. The self-punishment among Chen, Wu, You, and Hai requires caution to avoid legal troubles.

The sixteenth item is the God of Conflict. Conflict indicates conflict and change, separation of mind and spirit, and rebelliousness and recklessness. When this occurs, one should comfort oneself and seek a way out from the opening caused by the conflict. The seventeenth item is the God of Destruction. There are two types: day destruction and branch destruction. The conflict between卯 and午 is considered destruction of the gate and household. Once destruction occurs, it signifies loss and dispersion; even if something is already completed, it will need to change. It is advisable to make efforts to reconcile and remedy the situation. The eighteenth item is the God of Harm. The six harms are unfavorable to the six relations. Harm indicates obstruction and lack of harmony between parties, leading to contradiction. Once action is taken, there will certainly be loss. Therefore, one must be cautious when moving forward.

Number nineteen is Kongwang, which refers to the旬空. Kongwang indicates dispersion, loss, emptiness, passivity, retreat, and lack of practicality. However, if aInauspicious Spirit falls into Kongwang, it is actually beneficial. Gods associated with fire do not dislike Kongwang. Number twenty is the Post-horse, which signifies travel and toil. There are four types: year horse, month horse, day horse, and hour horse. The day branch determines the main Post-horse, with the Heavenly Horse as secondary. The Post-horse indicates promotion. It is most unfavorable if it falls into Kongwang or陷落. If the Post-horse is in the long life position, when asking about a traveler's return, it indicates that the traveler will not return.

The twenty-first item is about response and fulfillment. In the Six Rats system, the fulfillment depends on the first transmission and the useful god, which indicates the time when the response will occur. If the heavenly stem of the year is the initiating transmission, the fulfillment should occur within the current year; if the month builder is the initiating transmission, it should occur within the current month; if the month general is the initiating transmission, it should occur within the current zodiac sign of the sun's position; if the branch of the four beginnings (立春, 立夏, 立秋, 立冬) is the initiating transmission, it should occur within the current season; if the god of the twenty-four solar terms is the initiating transmission, it should occur within the current solar term; if the god of the seventy-two phases is the initiating transmission, it should occur within the current phase; if the first day of the ten-day period is the initiating transmission, it should occur within the current ten-day period; if the day branch of the current day is the initiating transmission, it should occur on the current day; and if the actual time is the initiating transmission, it should occur at that moment.

If the initiating transmission deity is not among the above items, use the day branch of the current day and count forward sequentially. For example, if today is the Zi day and the initiating transmission is Chou, it should be tomorrow; if the initiating transmission is Yin or Mao, it should be the next day or the third day; if the deity is not found within four positions, this method is no longer used.

You also need to examine the heavenly stem on the earth plate's position of the sovereign year, to determine the date. For example, if the year is Zi, and Si is placed on the Zi position, it should be in the fourth month, because the fourth month is built by Si. If You is placed on the Zi position, it should be in the eighth month, because the eighth month is built by You. Additionally, if the sovereign year falls on the middle transmission, it refers to events from last year; if it falls on the final transmission, it refers to events from two or three years ago. The same reasoning applies when the middle and final transmissions meet the month builder.

If the initiating transmission is based on the flourishing energy, it refers to current affairs; if based on the auxiliary energy, it refers to future affairs; if based on the declining energies such as rest or captivity, it refers to past affairs. This point should also be considered together.

There are also various methods to determine the timing of events: some use the day stem as a favorable sign and its being overcome as an unfavorable sign; others take the god that forms a trine with the first transmission as the time when matters are completed, and the god that forms a conflict with the final transmission as the time when matters disperse; there are also methods that use the absolute place and storage of the initiating transmission god as the timing, with yang stems taking the absolute place and yin stems taking the storage; there is also a method that uses the god beneath the trine of the final transmission as the time when favorable matters conclude. For example, in divining about a traveler, if the lesson pattern already shows signs of return, then the god beneath the墓 and 绝 of the first transmission is directly taken as the return date.

Divination also emphasizes verifying predictions through subsequent events. Some rely on the old Five Phases, using the numbers from the River Chart and the Lo Shu Square. Others depend on the Great Derivation number, such as taking the number nine for Jia, Ji, Zi, and Wu. There are also cases based on the law of response timing, for example, if the initiating transmission begins at Hai or Zi, then the Sheng at Chou position is the response; if it begins at Shen or You, then the Sheng at Xu position is the response.

There is also the concept of "guo ge" (obstruction and barrier). When the term "chen" (earth dragon) is placed on the "zi" (rat) position, it is called "tian guan" (heavenly gate), and when placed on the "wu" (horse) position, it is called "di guan" (earthly gate), indicating that matters are obstructed by heavenly and earthly advantages. When "chen" is placed on the "mao" (rabbit) position, it is called "tian ge" (heavenly barrier), and when placed on the "you" (rooster) position, it is called "di ge" (earthly barrier), indicating that matters are hindered by heavenly and earthly advantages. The "gen" (mountain) palace is also known as the "ghost gate," and should be considered together. In summary, one should respond to events as they occur, base decisions on actual circumstances, avoid being confined by later heavenly patterns, and flexibly analyze and interpret.

All these are secret teachings passed down by sages through word and deed, representing a living approach based on time before they are used by the people. As for the living approach based on space, it is no different from the principle that "the positive is the movement of the Dao, and the negative is the function of the Dao": generation and overcoming are the normal state, while control and transformation are the abnormal state. One must seek unity within contradictions and approach things with a balanced and dialectical perspective. All things move forward and develop upward, with quantitative change transforming into qualitative change, and within this process lies the principle of negation of the negation.
