The Heavenly General Teng Snake holds the position equivalent to a Lieutenant of the Horse Commandery, and its original nature is associated with the Dingsi (丁巳) fire. Fire is strong for sixty days. It generally governs matters related to writing, sudden alarms, official letters, and minor skills. It resides at the junction of water and fire. If it is凶 (malevolent), it indicates sudden frights and strange dreams; it also signifies strange occurrences such as flickering flames and the strange noises of pots and cauldrons, as well as disputes in both public and private affairs. If it is in its prosperous and strong state and harmonizes with the day stem, it brings good fortune; if it is weak and confined, it brings disaster; if it falls into Kongwang (空亡), it reduces both good and bad fortune by half. The classic text says, "If Teng Snake generates me, there will be no disaster; if Teng Snake overcomes me, there will be disaster." The original text here mistakenly writes "Teng Snake's Liu" instead of "Teng Snake's God," and "Da Gu" instead of "Da Du." I have preserved the original text without alteration.

In terms of illness, the patient experiences swelling in the limbs and face; the cause is the interference of the water god and wood god, who come to form a deadly enmity.

If the situation is prosperous and strong with mutual generation, then matters concerning servants and attendants will bring good fortune; but if it is in the state of death and suffers punishment and restriction, he will be involved in trouble leading to loss, injury, or harm. In terms of illness, the patient will feel discomfort in the chest and ribs and have phlegm; it is the well spirit and stove spirit causing trouble, how can there be peace? The original text here says 'jun le' which should be 'jun zi', but it is recorded as is.

The sky falls upon the twelve earthly branches, each with its own image: at Zi it is called "Small Person," indicating coldness, hardship, and distress; at Chou it is called "Three Hot Corpses"; at Yin it is called "Involvement in Affairs," indicating disputes and verbal conflicts; at Mao it is called "Observing the Ritual," indicating lying and deception; at Chen it indicates false and fraudulent matters; at Si it is called "Approaching the Door," indicating stirring up gossip and engaging in cunning affairs; at Wu it is called "Entering Transformation," indicating slight success brings good fortune; at Wei it indicates giving away empty and insubstantial things; at Shen it is called "Loud Tongue," indicating lawsuits; at You it is called "Leaving the Door," indicating stubbornness and argument, with trivial matters not being settled clearly; at Xu it indicates fear and terror; at Hai it is called "Scholar's Cap," suitable only for minor matters, and beneficial for searching for lost items.

Those who study the Six壬 (Liuren) system, if they can only memorize the statements but fail to grasp the essential techniques, will make mistakes in judging fortune and misfortune when dealing with the three transmissions. Therefore, nowadays people often say, "The Azure Dragon is a favorable general, the White Tiger is an ominous spirit; Tai Chang usually indicates food and drink, and Gou Chen only signifies entanglements." But they do not realize that when the Azure Dragon is in the position of Wei, it is "without scales," which actually causes harm to the body; when it is in the positions of Shen or You, "broken horns" lead to disputes and lawsuits. When the White Tiger is in the position of Wei, it is "mountain climbing," which actually means holding power externally; when it is in the position of Shen, "receiving documents," it actually means smooth communication on the road. When Tai Chang is in the position of Zi, it leads to being locked in chains; when Gou Chen is in the position of Si, "holding the seal," it actually results in promotion to high office. Such examples are numerous, yet most people do not understand them.

Twelve Heavenly Generals Initiating Transmission Based on Day Stem Meaning

This passage explains how to determine the nature of a question based on the initiating transmission and the heavenly general. If the nobleman is located in the丑 or 未 and approaches the day stem, and coincides with the twelve divination gods of construction and removal (建除), specifically on days of 除, 定, 危, or 开, the question is about a child. When theLiu He is combined with the禄神 and the post-horse, the question is mostly about travel and official positions, which is most suitable. If the Teng Snake is located in the巳, 午 or the Taichong in the卯, it indicates a fright in a dream or strange and ominous events; if it is not about financial loss or loss of property, it is mostly about people's gossip and unwillingness to comply. If the Vermilion Bird enters the transmission, it indicates that news will arrive; if the killing god is located in the巳 or 午, it relates to legal matters. If it coincides with the monthly virtue or heavenly virtue, it definitely relates to wealth connected with metalworking and casting, where the character '财' in the Lu edition is written as '才'. If theLiu He is combined with the卯 or 酉 stars, the question is definitely about marriage or a pregnant woman; if it is located on the day stem or day branch, disputes and matters concerning money will immediately occur.

Gou Chen falling on寅 or卯, which are the gates of the second and eighth months, indicates that the person is involved in legal disputes and arguments. If it meets the position of yang extinction or yin extinction, the patient's illness will persist continuously, and he will be dazed as if drunk. If Qinglong initiates the transmission and is in harmony with the day stem, it indicates abundant production of mountains, forests, fields and land, and all affairs are safe and peaceful; if it is not about seeking official positions, it must be about correspondence and communication. Tiankong governs loss and escape; if it coincides with Hekui in戌 and Tiangang in辰, it indicates bad servants. If Tiankong is added and the day stem is in prosperity and strength, it indicates business travel and commercial activities. Baihu appearing at the gate indicates regrettable matters, illness affecting the elderly and children, both sides suffering; if the useful god falls on午, 未, 申 or 酉, it indicates fights on the road, disputes initiated by others.

Tai Chang indicates that wealth and finances are flourishing today, and matters concerning clothing and documents will be resolved in order. If the禄神 (favorable deity) is added upon the合神 (cooperating deity), then a banquet is set and relatives are invited. Yuan Wu (Black Tortoise) riding on亥, 子, 辰 and adding upon卯, 酉 indicates thieves harming people; if it is added upon午, 未, it instead indicates promotion and transfer of official posts. This should be carefully analyzed, and not be hastily judged. Tai Yin falling on巳 indicates a situation where someone has a change of heart during a gathering; if it is not an act of deceiving superiors or officials, then there will certainly be disputes and quarrels that continue until dawn. Heavenly Empress is mostly related to matters concerning women; if the earth element is strong, then it refers to selecting palace attendants and purchasing clothing. If Heavenly Empress is on午 or 未, and the day stem is壬 or 癸, then nothing planned will be genuine.

The twelve heavenly officials are associated with both good and bad fortune.
