奇门
Qi Men Dun Jia works on a nine-palace board carrying several stacked layers: the Three Marvels and Six Instruments on the earth plate, then the heaven plate, the Nine Stars, the Eight Gates and the Eight Spirits. Its layout rules are the most involved of the Three Rites, but every step is a definite procedure that does not depend on the caster’s judgment in the moment.
A large share of the surviving literature is in verse. The Yan Bo Diao Sou Ge sets out the essentials of fixing the structure and putting the board to use in rhymed form, and later writers built their commentaries around it. Much of the rest discusses patterns, the specific configurations formed by stem, star, gate and spirit together.
How to read this branch
The layout rules have to be clear first or the material on patterns has nothing to attach to. Work a board by hand alongside the verses.
