The Tai Yin represents a woman, and it is associated with the planet Venus; it may be either auspicious or inauspicious, and its true nature is not immediately clear. When it stands on water, it tends to bring good fortune; however, when it meets wood or fire, there may be secret schemes and ambiguous matters arising. The Black Tortoise represents a man who looks sideways and watches secretly; it indicates that someone may plot harm and there may be fleeing or moving away. If it enters wood, it brings disputes; if it enters fire, it brings injury. Tian Kong signifies fear and initial worries. If Chen or Xu are involved in the family, illness and worries are expected. If there is conflict and suppression, it indicates being summoned by the authorities and having to rush to fulfill duties. Gou Chen signifies legal disputes and conflicts over property, family quarrels with the wife's family being dominant; it also indicates confusion and indecision in the mind. If it is suppressed, it indicates the wife falling ill, encountering strange phenomena, and financial loss. The Azure Dragon, if moving in reverse, can conceal matters; one should carefully check for loss of people, money, or verbal disputes. When prosperous and strong, noblemen will come to guide. If suppressed, it indicates disputes over objects and being injured by others.

If it is on the metal position, metal generates water and brings life, indicating marriage will occur. Tai Yin and the Earthly Branches Chou and Wei in the same palace indicate communication regarding women and wealth. If it meets fire, misfortune arises. If it meets wood, someone will conspire against. If it is on Chen and Xu, the illness becomes more severe. Xuan Wu indicates both ghosts and thieves occurring together; being accused and having unclear legal documents. If it meets two waters, it is not a good omen. If it is on the metal position, metal generates water and the energy is smooth, definitely not ominous.

Tai Chang governs matters concerning women setting up wine and food for banquets, marriage, and vows made orally. When seeking success in affairs, there is no failure. However, if one stands at the position of a well or stove, it violates the taboo of the Middle Autumn. Bai Hu governs hearing of death news on the road; people dying, others fleeing and losing property, which is ominous; it also brings worry about military conflicts at the borders; one wishes to escape from misfortune but is struck by a horse at a bridge over a river. Tian Kong governs fear leading to loss of spirit; servants fleeing, strange noises in the house; it also signifies worry upon seeing donkeys or mules, having seen strange phenomena before; in the end, these are all ominous matters, but after being restrained, they result only in a false alarm.

Human Originates in the Auspicious and the Inauspicious

This passage explains the ten Heavenly Stems, each with a four-line verse. Jia (甲) falling on the divine tree and the Heavenly Horse indicates many vows have been made but not yet fulfilled. If Jia is attacked, it signifies loss of wealth and damage to donkeys and dogs, as well as disturbances caused by rabbits and cats. Yi (乙) in a prosperous and strong position indicates abundant wealth; if it appears in the heavenly stem, it brings good fortune. If Yi is attacked, it suggests disaster at the gate and broken windows. If the lower position attacks the upper, horses will frequently suffer from disease. Bing (丙) in a prosperous and strong position indicates seeing smoke and light, with birds and snakes appearing and damage to the stove. If the Black Tortoise attacks, it brings worry, disputes, and theft.

When the stem Ding is in its own position, it indicates a situation where there is a deficiency between nobility and common status, but heroes will emerge among the descendants, achieving prominence through military prowess. If it is overcome, it signifies injury to livestock, death of dogs, and also the early death of sons and prolonged illness. When the stems Wu and Ji are in the chart, the family will be poor, and legal disputes from outside will lead to being sued in court. When predicting the house, it clearly indicates that the family residence has already been ruined. If it is overcome, it brings disaster and harm to the person. When the stem Geng is like a bull and appears above the Vermilion Bird, fire overcomes metal, leading to injury and disaster. When the superior position overcomes the inferior position, it indicates death of people in the household. If it is prosperous and strong and receives support, it instead indicates that horses will be exceptionally outstanding.

If辛 is weakened and attacked, it indicates frequent consumption diseases, suicide attempts, and severe sores, causing helplessness; if辛 is strong and prosperous, the family will be very fortunate, wealthy, and harmonious in human relations. If壬 is strong and prosperous, there will be continuous celebrations and a new atmosphere; when it is in the position of metal and receives support from metal, the person will be refined and superior to ordinary people; if it falls on wood, the wood is nourished by water, which is considered favorable; if it is weakened and attacked, it indicates injuries, failures, being falsely accused, and getting involved in disputes. If癸 appears in the chart, it indicates the activation of strange spirits, and it should be considered together with the general and the earthly branch; if they multiply each other and the爻 is strong and prosperous, it definitely indicates family troubles.

The Five Phases each govern four positions.

In human affairs, calamities and blessings are very subtle and profound. One must consider the relationships formed by multiplying the four positions together. If the earthly branches are attacked, the calamity should be related to livestock, and also involves death of people and loss of money. If the divine forces are attacked, the calamity relates to wealth, indicating that the wife has died several years ago. If the noble god is attacked from outside by the heavenly stem (person element), it indicates that family members suffer disasters or injuries. If the lower position attacks the person element, it indicates someone fleeing; if the lesson's energy is in the dead or imprisoned position, legal matters will be unsmooth. If the earthly branch attacks the person element, misfortunes should occur outside; if the person element attacks the earthly branch, the misfortune should be related to objects.

When the heavenly stem is overcome by the person's original stem, it indicates good fortune and repeated joy, symbolizing prosperity and flourishing. If the person's original stem overcomes the heavenly stem, it signifies the destruction of the family and loss of wealth, and there should be vigilance against thieves. When two fires meet gold, it indicates loss of wealth and secret disputes from outside. When one fire overcomes two golds, it suggests a conflict between two women, with outsiders' women hiding within the household. When two waters meet gold, gold and water mutually generate, indicating literary success; when there are two golds and two waters, it brings great joy. When two woods suddenly fall into fire, it indicates fire, disputes, and calamities from people's words. When two earths contend with two waters, it signifies disputes over land, frequent lawsuits and repeated dangers; crops fail, wealth is hard to accumulate, and outsiders fall ill within the household.

Then one must also investigate which deity is paired with which heavenly stem, checking whether the favored deity appears more than once in the same position. If the heavenly stem of the person comes to harm the deity, and the star mansion associated with that deity is also harmed, calamities will certainly be continuous and severe; if this star mansion further harms the earthly branches, livestock will die and injuries will occur, and the calamities will become even deeper. The sun and the moon are auspicious stars; when they appear, harmony will be achieved between superiors and inferiors, and people will be united in purpose. The above is a true and profound secret passed down by someone claiming to be Sun Bin. Later generations should pay special attention and carefully examine it.

Four Positions Mixed Divination Song

When the heavenly stem overcomes the nobleman, it indicates that someone is plotting against oneself. When the nobleman overcomes the heavenly stem, it indicates that oneself is plotting against others. If the ground division and general spirit overcome the heavenly stem, it signifies that the younger generation is offending the elders. If the heavenly stem overcomes the general spirit, it indicates that the wife may suffer misfortune. If the general spirit overcomes the ground division, it indicates harm to the young. If there is a continuous sequence of overcoming upwards, only Gou Chen can achieve honor and prominence. If there is a continuous sequence of overcoming downwards, it leads to many calamities and illnesses. Internal conflicts and external struggles will persist without end. If the heavenly stem generates the noble spirit, it often indicates wealth and honor. If the ground division generates both the noble spirit and the general spirit, the matter will proceed smoothly and peacefully.

The divine stem generates the earthly branch, indicating joy from wealth; when the human origin generates the noble spirit and the commanding spirit, it signifies that a friend will come from outside. If the noble spirit generates the human origin, it is auspicious for searching someone; if the commanding spirit and the noble spirit mutually generate each other, it indicates that the children are filial. If the earthly branch generates the commanding spirit, it indicates a harmonious marriage; if there is a successive generation upwards, it suggests respect from outsiders. If all four positions mutually generate each other, all matters will be auspicious; but if there is a conflict or mutual restriction, the outcome will still be inauspicious. In the divination, if there are more yang branches and fewer yin branches, the matter will relate to a woman; if there are more yin branches and fewer yang branches, the matter will relate to a man.

The heavenly stem controls the spirit of the official, causing officials to lose their rank and common people to face theft of their wealth; if there is worry about legal matters, it can instead dissipate the trouble. In terms of illness, it indicates sores on the chest and ribs, which are personal misfortunes. When the heavenly stem controls the general spirit, and the general spirit in turn controls the earthly branch, the layers of control continue, leading to failure in seeking wealth and further decline. If the heavenly stem controls the general spirit and the earthly branch controls the spirit of the official, the affairs in question will not succeed, and one will also be scolded by superiors. If the earthly branch generates the heavenly stem, it indicates gaining official favor; if the heavenly stem generates the earthly branch, good fortune naturally arrives. If the earthly branch harms or controls the general spirit, it indicates damage to wife and wealth; if the general spirit harms or controls the earthly branch, it indicates legal troubles. If the heavenly stem and earthly branch are of the same type, it indicates brothers taking action, meeting peers, and the matter can be relaxed.

The Upper Section Discusses Calamity and Blessings Song

At the beginning, when chaos was divided into heaven and earth, the Five Phases gave rise to all creatures. In divination, if there are many yang branches and they are all yang, the subject being questioned is a man; if there are many yin branches and the yin energy is strong, the subject is a woman. If two yang branches surround one yin, it indicates a woman; if two yin branches surround one yang, it indicates a man. If wood lacks vitality and is harmed, then if it is harmed above, the illness is in the head and face; if it is harmed below, the illness is in the waist and knees. If wood is in the墓 or 绝 position, it indicates paralysis. These matters must be carefully examined and inferred within the Five Phases. If earth reaches the dead or ruined position, it indicates the person will suffer from madness or swelling. If Taichong (Mao) (Mao wood) overcomes earth, it indicates deafness; if it is in the墓 or 绝 position and further overcomes downward, it indicates disability.

When the lower element overcomes the upper, it indicates the presence of ghosts, spirits, and poisonous vapors; when the upper element overcomes the lower, it suggests drowning. If fire is above and water below, it indicates blindness in the head and eyes; if fire is below and water above, it definitely means a reversal of qi upwards. When fire overcomes metal, it indicates frequent coughing; if the lower element overcomes metal, it indicates a newly acquired illness. The White Tiger combined with庚 and辛 metal indicates death away from home; if it is also combined with fire, it definitely means a wound from a blade. If Bingwu and the Vermilion Bird are combined with water overcoming, it indicates death by hanging or jumping into a well. If Tai Chang meetsRobbery Sha, it indicates being poisoned by others, accompanied by vomiting and seeing blood. If the four young branches 寅, 申, 巳, and 亥 have excessive fire, it indicates a widespread epidemic. If Tai Yin enters the grave, it indicates injury to women or suffering from a severe illness with painful sores, with ambiguous circumstances and the consequences being self-inflicted.

The Black Tortoise is weakened, indicating the owner may have crooked eyes, or die on the way, meet a violent death, or suffer injuries. If Liu He is taken as representing officials of successive generations, they will certainly face punishment and execution. The Snake brings many calamities and will lead to a fall into a pit or trap. The Azure Dragon falling into the area of Death Qi indicates generations of poverty. The Gou Chen being weakened leads to financial loss and even death. In such a case, men will remain unmarried and women will remain widowed, with no clothing, food, or salary, and live in poverty. The Heavenly Empress and Shenhou both belong to water and are weakened, indicating drowning. If this is combined with Tian Kong, there will be sudden difficulties in financial matters.

In the middle phase, the discussion concerns women.

This passage specifically discusses matters concerning women. Women's misfortunes are determined by the mutual control between yin and yang. If water and earth fall into the墓乡 (graveyard), it often indicates sorrow and distress. Although disasters from childbirth and bleeding may occur repeatedly, if wood is weak and destroyed, it indicates suffering from wind illness and coughing, which harms the body. When water meets the earth of the four seasons, namely the years of chen, xu, chou, and wei, it indicates widowhood, and if combined with evil spirits, the judgment is certain. When the divine and the land are in mutual control, it inevitably harms the husband. If it falls into the墓地 (graveyard) direction, it indicates water swelling and sores. If Tai Yin (you metal) enters卯 (mao), it indicates suicide by hanging; if Taichong (mao wood) reaches you, mao and you are in opposition, and the outcome is the same. If the Heavenly Empress is subjected to阴刑 (negative punishment) and falls into the dead position, it is almost certainly a bad omen.

Xiaoji (Wei) and Tai Chang are located on Si and Wu, and if wood sha comes to control them, it indicates illness of choking and stomach injury; if another Robbery Sha is on top of them, when starving to death, there is no way to resist. If the metal of Xinyou is met with thief god below and fire comes to control it, it indicates death from flesh and blood, with nowhere to escape. If庚 and辛 are present, death occurs on the road; if Tai Yin and White Tiger are in the same place, there will be injury. If the control is in the寅 direction, the father dies first; if the control is in the卯 direction, the mother dies first. If the noble god and general god are in mutual control, the first wife dies; if the person's original energy and noble god are in mutual control, the husband and wife cannot last long.

The Lower Section Discusses Childbirth

This passage specifically discusses determining the gender of a newborn. Humans receive the essence of yin and yang and the vital energy from their parents, which combine and respond to each other to form a fetus in the womb. During the ten months of pregnancy, it is difficult to determine whether the fetus is male or female. Therefore, one must use the pairing of hardness and softness with the Five Phases to predict. Place the Month General on the twelve positions, like a mirror that reveals ghosts, to distinguish between yin and yang and determine the gender. Among the twelve noble spirits, Tian Yi, Liu He, Teng She, Zhu Que, Bai Hu, Xuan Wu, and Tian Kong belong to one category, while Qing Long, Gou Chen, Tai Chang, Tian Hou, and Tai Yin belong to another. Those born during the day are males, and those born at night are females; one must carefully examine the situation of the four positions and consider them repeatedly.

The complexion of an infant is determined by the hour of birth, using the Five Phases to predict future wealth and status. If it falls in a strong position, the complexion is clear and distinct; if it falls in a declining or weak position, things will not succeed. The colors associated with the Five Phases are: wood is green, water is black, metal is white, fire is purple, and earth is yellow. These are the fundamental colors. If it falls in a strong position, it indicates honor and success; if in a weak position, it indicates low status. These can be further analyzed through yin and yang. In terms of appearance, metal indicates a thin and sharp look, earth indicates a sturdy and solid look, and water indicates a clear and refined look. If it falls in a weak position, the appearance is ugly; if in a strong position, the person is intelligent. If it encounters failure, decline, empty days, or Robbery Sha, there is a fear that the infant may not survive the birth.

The noble deity presides over the twelve positions each governing their respective domains.

The following twelve sections are divided according to where each nobleman falls on the twelve earthly branches. Each section has four lines, with the first two lines predicting human affairs and fortune, and the last two lines predicting "shè fù" (guessing the hidden object) and "yāo hòu" (encounters on the way out). When the nobleman is at寅, it indicates receiving imperial edicts and favors, and matters concerning noblemen and documents, but it also conflicts with the dwelling spirit. The hidden object is precious and strange items. On the way, one may meet officials, spirits, and wandering people. When the nobleman is at卯, it indicates discord among brothers, lawsuits, and loss of wealth. The hidden object is something small and fragmented that grows in water. On the way, one may meet doctors and magicians, or hear the sound of wheels rolling. When the nobleman is at辰, it indicates empty documents, disputes with wicked people through documents, which is ominous. On the way, one may meet soldiers and officials, or see a dead cow. The hidden object is round objects and bronze mirrors.

When Tianyi is over the snake (Si), there will be an urgent message arriving, with strange noises coming from the kitchen and the stove, leading to strange occurrences and disasters; when guessing the covered object, it should be directly stated as a precious vessel; on the way, one will meet people leading oxen and riding horses passing continuously. When Tianyi is over the horse (Wu), it indicates being summoned by the court, receiving increased salary and additional wealth, with abundant blessings; the covered object is precious treasures and offerings for worship; on the way, one will encounter scenes of welcoming and sending officials, with carriages and horses rushing. When Tianyi is over the sheep (Wei), it indicates sending letters to make friends and find kindred spirits, with various joyful events quickly becoming clear; the covered object is fragrant spices and precious fruits; on the way, one will meet people preparing sheep and wine, discussing marriage arrangements.

Heavenly Stem Tianyi is over the branch Shen. This indicates a meeting with an important guest, but a letter from a distant place brings bad news and causes worry; on the way, one will meet a military unit wearing armor and officials; the hidden items are treasures, money, and medicinal herbs. Heavenly Stem Tianyi is over the branch You. This indicates setting up food and wine, and business activities without disaster; the object covered in the game of shooting is a knife, money, and cups and mirrors; there will be servants coming from outside to accompany the master. Heavenly Stem Tianyi is over the branch Xu. This indicates legal troubles and old matters that were delayed now causing conflict; on the way, one will see a dog biting a cow or a donkey, and will meet important people again; the hidden items are medicines, money, and fire sources.

Heavenly Stem Tianyi falls on Hai, indicating disputes over land and property; the outcome of legal cases depends on whether the female relatives or young children are far away. On the way, one will encounter flowers, precious objects, and young women. The hidden object has holes, is hard in texture, and has a round shape. When Heavenly Stem Tianyi falls on Zi, it indicates suffering from divine punishment; if a cat and a mouse are seen walking together, a child will surely die. The object hidden in the cover game is something decorated with bright colors and touched by a woman; someone will die outside, and the woman will also get injured. When Tianyi falls on its own position, forming a Hidden Chant pattern, it indicates promotion and increased wealth, bringing joy. However, if it meets a failed or exhausted period or an empty ten-day period, there is a fear that even life may be lost during childbirth.
