The twelve earthly branches each have their own yin and yang distinctions, and each oversees different affairs, all arranged within the framework of the twelve palaces for divination. All aspects such as the order of the Five Phases and the Five Directions, the cyclical changes of the four seasons, the positions and degrees of the three enclosures (San Yuan)—namely, the Purple Micro Enclosure, the Tai Wei Enclosure, and the Tian Shi Enclosure—and the twenty-eight constellations, the seven celestial bodies (Qi Zheng)—the sun, moon, and five planets—and the four additional celestial bodies (Si Yu)—the Purple Qi, the Moon孛, the Luo Hui, and the Ji Du—along with the territories and affiliations of the nine provinces and myriad countries under heaven, as well as the principles of generation and overcoming between yin and yang, are all included within the twelve palaces, interwoven with each other through their meridians and parallels. This is a general overview of the twelve heavenly deities.
Therefore, from the perspective of the rotation of the Big Dipper's handle, the sequence begins with the "Heavenly Gang" (天罡) and proceeds clockwise. From the perspective of the sun's position and the monthly movement of the palace, the sequence begins with "Dengming" (登明) at亥 and proceeds counterclockwise. This counterclockwise sequence is called "Month General" (月将), which is actually the same set of deities as the twelve gods. When using and combining these in the process of establishing a hexagram in Six壬, they are all referred to as "deities" (神) rather than "Generals" (将). One only needs to observe whether they are placed on the Day Stem, Day Branch, the Reigning Lord of the Year, or one's own birth year, and determine if they are mutually generating, mutually controlling, mutually injuring, or harmonizing, thereby judging the fortune, misfortune, and outcomes.
When the twelve gods are interacting with each other, if the upper god overcomes the lower god, or if there is mutual generation or harmony between the upper and lower gods, the discussion is based on the Heaven Plate god. If the lower god overcomes the upper god, the discussion is based on the Earth Plate god.

The reason it is called "Dengming" is because in the first month, the Tai trigram shows the beginning of three yang energies emerging on the ground, just as the "Jian Long Zai Tian" (Seeing a dragon in the field) in the second line of the Qian hexagram from The Zhou Changes, indicating that the world henceforth shines with brightness. The Mingyi hexagram also mentions "Chu Deng Yu Tian" (First ascending to heaven), referring to the initial rise of brightness reaching the heavens and illuminating all nations. Furthermore, since the亥 position is exactly where the heavenly gate is located, it is called "Dengming."

Riding Tian Hou indicates drowning death, as it represents pouring water into flowing water, causing it to disappear. Riding Tai Yin indicates hidden matters. Riding Zhu Que indicates keys, because the four Meng months of Yin, Shen, Si, and Hai are the dwelling places of the key god; if this appears in a divination about litigation, it signifies release and exemption. The explanation states: When the White Tiger is positioned over the From-Qiu You branch and the energy is prosperous and strong, it signifies gold and jade; if the energy is in a state of captivity or death, it indicates weapons and blades. When the Azure Dragon is positioned over the You branch and the energy is prosperous and strong, it also signifies gold and jade; if the Azure Dragon initiates the transmission, there is mutual control between metal and wood, and the matter being divined will have a beginning and an end. On the six days of Xin, the Tai Yin governs, and if the energy is prosperous and strong, it signifies gold and jade; if the energy is in a state of death, it indicates weapons, blades, and slaughter. On the days of Bing and Ding, when Tai Yin is added to the You branch, it signifies money: because without fire to forge the metal of You, the metal cannot be shaped into the form of money.
As for the days of Jia, Wu, and Geng, even if the You branch is occupied by Tai Yin, it is not considered as related to wealth. On the day of Jia, when it is in spring, Tai Yin energy is in a state of imprisonment, indicating affairs of servants and concubines involving deceit. On the day of Wu, Tai Yin energy is in a state of mutual generation, with metal and earth supporting each other, and two Yin generals meeting, indicating matters of marriage. On the day of Geng, Tai Yin energy is in a flourishing state, indicating matters concerning gold, silver, silk, and cloth. Tian Kong relates to servants, Cong Kuai relates to maids, and the branches Xu and You are adjacent to each other, so together they indicate servants engaging in private affairs.
The "He" in Liu He refers to private doors, and when both卯 and酉, which are private doors, appear together, it is called the left and right internal and external private doors.酉 is also called "Jiu Jiang," and Xuanwu is the general of water. The metal of酉 can generate water, so it is said that the matter is by the water. If it occurs on one of the six Ji days, the earth of Ji will control the water of Xuanwu, and the water vapor will be dried up and no longer be water.
Tai Chang governs wheat: when divining on days of Ren or Gui, the metal and water mutually generate, and the wheat sprouts ears and shows signs of growth. However, if divining on days of Jia, Wu, or Geng, the situation differs. On Jia day, Tai Chang is located over You, and although the wheat is already mature, it first suffers damage because the metal You harms the Jia wood day stem. On Wu day, metal and earth mutually generate, the soil is strong and fertile, so the wheat not only sprouts ears but also produces grain. On Geng day, the metal energy is overly rigid, resulting in grains that are firm but small in size.
The Heavenly Empress is placed over You, and You metal generates water, which is deep and has a source, hence called "Nine Rivers." The Nobleman placed over You, with strong and prosperous energy, indicates receiving rewards; if the energy is in captivity or death, it suggests the Nobleman's anger and blame, and if it is about litigation, there will be worry and imprisonment. The Vermilion Bird placed over You indicates chickens and flying birds; if it also harms the day stem, it suggests litigation and official documents. The Teng Snake placed over You, if divined during the day, indicates strange birds causing trouble, and if divined at night, it indicates another kind of strange occurrence (the original text lacks one character here); if divined on six Ji days in the second month, with the Month Aversion also on You, it will be more accurate. The Gou Chen placed over You indicates the resolution and dispersal of matters.
On days of Jia, the Azure Dragon is in charge, and wood overcomes Gou Chen's earth. However, the son god of Gou Chen's earth is You metal, which in turn overcomes Jia wood. Each side relies on its own strength and engages in conflict, but the conflict causes them to disperse, so no grudge is formed. On days of Wu and Geng, the deities unite and do not fight, also leading to dispersal. On days of Ren and Gui, water is overcome by Gou Chen's earth, but it is saved by You metal, the son god of Gou Chen's earth. This is called "no favor leading to dispersal."
