Charting guides: Liu Yao Divination Chart, Da Yan Yarrow Stalk Divination

The concept of "Six Jia Empty" is determined by dividing the sixty Jiazi cycles into ten-day periods. In the Jiazi cycle, the branches Wu and Hai are empty; in the Jiaxu cycle, the branches Shen and You are empty; in the Jiashen cycle, the branches Wu and Wei are empty; in the Jiawu cycle, the branches Chen and Si are empty; in the Jiachen cycle, the branches Yin and Mao are empty; and in the Jiayin cycle, the branches Zi and Chou are empty. The principle of empty branches cannot be universally applied: if theHostile God (hostile god) falls into an empty branch, it is actually favorable, while theUseful God (useful god) falling into an empty branch is considered unfavorable. If the empty branch coincides with the four seasons' thriving energy, it should not be treated as an empty branch. For example, if a divination is made in the spring during the Jiazi cycle, the empty branches are Wu and Hai. The branch Wu belongs to earth, and when earth falls into an empty branch, it is like falling into a void with no support, which is called "true emptiness." Since spring is the season of wood's strength, earth is restrained and lacks vitality, hence it is called true emptiness. Ancients said: fire falling into an empty branch may actually flourish, earth falling into an empty branch may sink, metal falling into an empty branch may produce sound, water falling into an empty branch may flow freely, and wood falling into an empty branch may break.

The "截路空" is determined by matching the day stem with the hour branch: on Jia or Ji days, the hours of Shen and You are most worrying; on Yi and Geng days, the hours of Wu and Wei do not require further consideration; on Bing and Xin days, the hours of Chen and Si are unnecessary to inquire about; on Ding and Ren days, the hours of Yin and Mao bring sorrow; on Wu and Gui days, the hours of Zi and Chou mean one can only sit idly at home. If the time of divination falls into this kind of emptiness, all matters will come to a halt. The "Six Clashes" of the Earthly Branches are: Zi clashes with Wu, Chou clashes with Wei, Yin clashes with Shen, Mao clashes with You, Chen clashes with Xu, and Si clashes with Hai. If theHostile God (hostile god) encounters a clash, it is auspicious; if theUseful God (useful god) encounters a clash, it is inauspicious. The mnemonic for the "Three Punishments" is: Yin is punished by Si, and Si is punished by Shen; Chou is punished by Xu, and Xu is punished by Chou; Zi is punished by Mao, and Mao is punished by Zi; the branches Chen, Wu, You, and Hai each punish themselves. The mnemonic for the "Six Harmful Relationships" is: Zi and Wei are harmful to each other, and should not be close; Chou harms Wu, Yin and Si are hostile to each other; Mao harms Chen, Shen harms Hai; You and Xu meet, and the harm is even deeper.

The "Guan Gua Sha" (Single and Widowed Death) indicates loneliness: In spring, avoid Chou (Ox); in summer, avoid Chen (Dragon flies up to heaven); in autumn, avoid Wei (Goat); in winter, avoid Xu (Dog). If this appears in a divination about marriage, the relationship will not last long. The "Xian Chi Sha" (Salty Pool Death) is the Harmful Love Star: In the Fire triad (Yin-Wu-Xu), see Mao (Rabbit comes out from the grass); in the Metal triad (Si-You-Chou), see Wu (Horse jumps southward); in the Water triad (Shen-Zi-Chen), see You (Rooster disrupts human relationships); in the Wood triad (Hai-Mao-Wei), see Zi (Mouse at the head is forbidden). On the Assignment of the Six Spirits

When interpreting a hexagram, one must always consider the movement and condition of the Six Spirits. The fortune or misfortune follows the changes of the lines. The Azure Dragon belongs to the Wood element; when it moves, all things go smoothly. The White Tiger belongs to the Metal element; when it is strong and active, affairs tend to be unfavorable. The Vermilion Bird belongs to the Fire element; it governs disputes and gossip. Gou Chen belongs to the Earth element; it signifies delays and stagnation. If the Snake is in the position of the world, the matters involved are usually secret or private. The Black Tortoise belongs to the Water element; hidden losses of wealth occur when it is active. Strange dreams and sudden fears are usually caused by the Snake. When the Black Tortoise is strong, rain is expected; when the Vermilion Bird moves, the weather will clear. If the Azure Dragon is in the empty position, there is no need to doubt the family's bad luck. If the White Tiger moves and the matter is about pregnancy, it is actually a good sign. When the Vermilion Bird moves, official documents or messages will arrive soon. When Gou Chen moves, the matters one seeks and the people one expects will face obstacles. When seeking official positions or involved in lawsuits, the strong Vermilion Bird is favorable. When buying land or property, there is no need to fear the interference of Gou Chen. The above is only a general explanation; the subtle aspects must be determined by careful analysis of the specific hexagram.

The affairs governed by the Six Spirits

The Six Spirits Song and Explanation

The Azure Dragon presiding over a yao indicates harmony and smoothness in all affairs; the Vermilion Bird presiding over a yao signifies a continuous flow of official documents and legal matters; Gou Chen overcoming the World Line may lead to disputes over land and property; the Snake presiding over a yao brings dreams and nightmares, causing much misfortune; the White Tiger presiding over a yao often indicates fear and calamity; as for the Black Tortoise, it suggests loss of money. Now I will explain the secrets of the Six Spirits, using the eight characters 「Wang, Xiang, Tai, Mei, Si, Xiu, Qiu, Fei」 to match the Eight Trigrams. The Azure Dragon belongs to the Wood element, being in its prime in the Zhen Trigram and in its phase in the Xun Trigram. It is strong in spring, born in the亥 position, at its peak in the卯 position, buried in the未 position, and in decline in the申 position, with a yang nature. If this spirit holds the World Line or becomes active, it signifies fortune, marriage, pregnancy, and matters related to relatives by marriage; regardless of which yao it is attached to, it brings good fortune. The Vermilion Bird belongs to the Fire element, being in its prime in the Li Trigram and in its phase in the Kun Trigram. It is strong in summer, born in the寅 position, at its peak in the午 position, buried in the戌 position, and in decline in the亥 position, with a yin nature. If this spirit holds the World Line or becomes active, it signifies documents, disputes, arguments, and conflicts; attached to any yao, it brings good or bad fortune depending on the yao.

Gou Chen belongs to the Earth element and is associated with the trigrams Zhen, Li, Kan, and Dui. It is yang in spring and winter, and yin in autumn and summer. If it holds the world position or becomes active, it indicates darkness, delays, and matters concerning land and property. Teng She has no original position in the Eight Trigrams and is associated with the trigrams Qian, Kun, Gen, and Xun. When it appears in the first month (January, April, July, October), it is yang, and when it appears in the third month (March, June, September, December), it is yin. If it holds the world position or becomes active, it indicates fear, anxiety, dreams, and strange occurrences; when attached to the six lines, each line has different implications. Bai Hu belongs to the Metal element, is strong in the Dui trigram and in the Qian trigram, is strong in autumn, is yin in nature, and is the god of the west. If it holds the world position or becomes active, it indicates illness, death, and loss of wealth; when attached to the six lines, there is no line that is not ominous. Xuan Wu belongs to the Water element, is strong in the Kan trigram and in the Gen trigram, is strong in winter, is yang in nature, and is the god of the north. If it holds the world position or becomes active, it indicates being deceived, theft, and secret matters; when attached to the six lines, each line has different ominous implications.

The Six Spirits are active within the day.

If the Six Spirits move at the third line of the inner trigram: the Azure Dragon moving internally often indicates joy and celebration; the White Tiger moving internally causes fear and worry about illness; the Vermilion Bird moving internally signifies restlessness and disputes over words; the Black Tortoise moving internally brings concern about distant travel. The "Kill Yin" spirit moving internally indicates worry about death; the螣 Snake moving internally suggests sudden strange and frightening events. If "Great Kill" is located in the inner trigram, there will be casualties. If Gou Chen is present, it mainly indicates legal disputes and accusations. "Great Kill below the sun" needs further analysis: on days of Jia and Yi, it is in亥 (pig); on days of Bing and Ding, it is in未 (sheep); on days of Wu and Ji, it is in戌 (dog); on days of Geng and Xin, it is in寅 (tiger); on days of Ren and Gui, it is in巳 (snake). If it is on the wife and wealth line, it indicates the death of the wife; if it is on the siblings line, it indicates the division of the family; if the parents or children lines encounter this kill, there will certainly be cries and sorrow heard inside the house. If the Six Spirits move at the third line of the outer trigram: the White Tiger moving externally causes worry about distant travel; the Vermilion Bird moving externally causes fear, indicating the other party is anxious; Gou Chen moving indicates someone is scheming and providing testimony; the Black Tortoise moving indicates there will be losses to be worried about. The Azure Dragon moving externally refers to opportunities in official positions; the螣 Snake moving externally indicates worry about external matters; the "Great Kill" moving causes disaster for all six beasts; the "Kill Yin" moving instead brings good fortune, honor, and prosperity.

The Six Spirits have a qi that brings good or bad fortune.

The Azure Dragon in a prosperous and strong state indicates good fortune and joy; the Vermilion Bird in a prosperous and strong state brings about documents and disputes. The Boa Serpent in a prosperous and strong state signifies sudden fright and fire-related calamities; the Black Tortoise in a prosperous and strong state warns of theft and the need for vigilance. The White Tiger in a prosperous and strong state indicates warfare and loss; however, if the White Tiger is in a weak and confined state, it is actually auspicious. The Gou Chen in a prosperous and strong state suggests disputes and lawsuits, which are ominous; even buying land or property may lead to imprisonment. If the Big Killing Star is present on the line, all matters will face resistance and obstruction. The Six Spirits should be interpreted in the same way. It is not necessary to mention that the Vermilion Bird on the wealth line brings problems, the White Tiger on the wealth line leads to illness due to financial matters, the Black Tortoise on the wealth line indicates theft, the Azure Dragon on the wealth line brings good fortune, the Boa Serpent on the wealth line causes loss, and the Gou Chen on the wealth line brings entanglements and difficulties. Even without financial disputes, there will certainly be jealousy among people. As long as one can interpret the divination in this manner, there will be no error in predicting the fortune or misfortune of any matter.

The Six Spirits' Image and Meaning Song

When studying the Zhou Changes and distinguishing hexagram images, one should first carefully examine the Six Spirits. Begin by looking at the World Line, the Response Line, and the position of the Hexagram Body. Then, assign good or bad fortune to each line according to the earthly branches. If the Azure Dragon falls on a water line and harmonizes with the Hexagram Body and the Response Line, seeking official positions will certainly go smoothly; if it falls on the Wealth line, it indicates the wife is pregnant; if it is about land transactions, there is no need for doubt. If the Azure Dragon falls on a wood line and is prosperous and strong, supporting the World Line, then as long as it does not fall into emptiness, anything can be done: marriage proposals will be successful, wealth will be obtained, and if one asks about a traveler, they will certainly return. However, if the Azure Dragon enters water and meets fire that burns it, there will often be worries about children's illness in the household; if the Azure Dragon activates and falls on the Hexagram Body, one will still encounter blockage and obstacles; if it enters wood, one should know that good things will happen. If the Azure Dragon enters earth, there will be fear and trouble in the household; if it meets metal and activates, one should be cautious of sorrow; if it is further trapped by emptiness, there will certainly be obstacles, and both young and old will suffer from punishment.

The Vermilion Bird falling on the fire line indicates legal disputes, and also requires vigilance regarding women and prevention of harm to the fetus; falling on the metal line brings wealth but requires caution against disputes; falling on the earth line indicates official matters with documents being summoned. Falling on the wood line is not problematic, and the body remains healthy; falling on the water line does not lead to disaster. Gou Chen falling on the earth line indicates official documents arising, disputes over land, and unexpected misfortunes; falling on the wood line indicates disputes over mountain fields and residences; encountering fire indicates the need to prevent injury to women; falling on the metal line brings in land property but causes concern over mourning attire. Falling on the water line indicates disputes and diseases of sores. Tan She falling on the earth line indicates dreaming of evil spirits; falling on the fire line indicates concern for children's frequent illness; encountering metal indicates matters of mourning attire disliked by women; falling on the wood line suggests the need for relocation but is mostly untrue; falling on the water line indicates pregnant women having difficulty in childbirth or there being sorrowful cries in the household.

The White Tiger falling on the Metal line indicates heavy mourning; if it meets the Water line, there will be worry about disputes escalating to the authorities. If it falls on the Earth line, misfortune arises from land and property. If it falls on the Fire line, the household suffers disaster. If it falls on the Wood line, it is also inauspicious. The Black Tortoise falling on the Water line indicates fear of thieves; on the Fire line, there will be loss of money; on the Earth line, someone in the family will fall ill; on the Wood line, a woman giving birth may suffer an unexpected disaster; if it falls on the Metal line, although there is wealth, it must come from outside, or it may be given by others or stolen property. Furthermore, if the Six Spirits fall on the void, the Azure Dragon in void means there is only the name of good news in the family; the Vermilion Bird in void means that even though there is a lawsuit, the side is justified; the Gou Chen in void means no involvement or entanglement; the Boa Snake in void means no disaster; the White Tiger in void means no illness; the Black Tortoise in void means thieves are not a problem.

The "Heavenly Horse" if present on a yao of wood, indicates a joyful event of promotion and gain in official position within one year. When it appears together with the "Post Horse," it signifies a general celebration; when it appears together with the "Post Horse," it signifies personal joy; when it appears together with the "Fortune Virtue" and "Children" yao, there is family gain. If it falls within the inner trigram, the joy is within the household; if it falls within the outer trigram, the joy is from outside, such as financial gain. If it appears together withInauspicious Sha (evil killing) spirits, it indicates an inauspicious outcome. The "Heavenly Horse" on a fire yao indicates joy for scholars and gentlemen in promotion, official positions, and matters of documents; if it appears together withinauspicious sign (evil signs), it indicates separation, fire disasters, fear, and conflicts. The "Heavenly Horse" on a earth yao, when appearing together with good signs, indicates acquiring land and promotion; when appearing together with evil signs, it indicates legal troubles and loss of property. The "Heavenly Horse" on a metal yao, when appearing together with good signs, indicates smooth travel and favorable long journeys; when appearing together with evil signs, it indicates sorrow, setbacks, mental exhaustion, and even bloodshed and mourning. The "Heavenly Horse" on a water yao, when appearing together with good signs, indicates acquiring boats and ships, and gaining wealth from alcohol and water-related sources; when appearing together with evil signs, it indicates theft and disasters related to boats and water. In addition, the "Heavenly Horse" calculated according to the year's heavenly stem is called "Year Builder Heavenly Horse," according to the month's heavenly stem is called "Month Builder Direct Heavenly Horse," according to the day's heavenly stem is called "Day Builder Transmission Heavenly Horse," and according to the hour's heavenly stem is called "Hour Builder Direct Heavenly Horse."

On the method of dividing the sixty-four hexagrams by months.

The oral诀 for determining the "month hexagram body" is: if the world line is yin, start counting from the month of Wu; if the world line is yang, start counting from the month of Zi. To determine which month the hexagram belongs to, count from the first line to the world line. To distinguish between yin and yang, if the world line is an intersecting or split line, it is yin; if it is a repeated or single line, it is yang. The term "hexagram month" refers to the month hexagram body; once it is determined, the matter being divined is also fixed. Starting from the first line, count sequentially to the world line to determine which month it is. Counting to the month of Zi refers to the eleventh month. This method differs from the method of determining the world hexagram body known as "Zi and Wu hold the world, the body resides in the first line." The month hexagram body prefers to be prosperous and strong; if it is accompanied by auspicious deities such as Heavenly Joy, Nobleman, Relief Deity, and Fortune Virtue, it is very auspicious, indicating gains and joy. The hexagram body should be avoided from falling into emptiness, and should not be troubled by official ghosts, documents, siblings, or other lines that interfere. It should also avoid being conquered, buried, or affected by conflict, collision, destruction, or harm, all of which are inauspicious signs that should be carefully examined.

Determine the fortune based on the prosperity, strength, weakness, and confinement of the coming intention

To determine what the person seeking divination is asking about, first examine the strength and condition of the hexagram: if the hexagram is prosperous and strong, it is likely about marriage or official position; if the hexagram is weak and confined, it is likely about disputes over money or loss of official status. If the hexagram body falls on the world line, it indicates a desire to travel far. If the ghost爻 is in the position of the main gate, matters concerning official position or illness should be avoided. If the hexagram is in the position of fetal development or non-existence, it suggests pregnancy or offending spirits, and also indicates people coming for private matters, evasion, or loss of wealth. If the outer trigram is activated and meets the position of fetal development or growth, it means someone else is coming to seek the person. If the inner trigram is activated and is prosperous and strong, it means the person is seeking others. If the day branch and month builder generate and harmonize with the hexagram, it is favorable; if there is conflict or harm, it is unfavorable. If the hexagram body is in the wealth position, it indicates seeking wealth, but also worries about disaster to parents and wife. If the hexagram body transforms into emptiness, it indicates loss of servants or slaves, and certainly some death, with good fortune coming later. If the day branch generates the hexagram and the hexagram generates the world line, it is mostly about parents and oneself; if the hexagram and the world line go to generate the day branch, it is about wife's childbirth and children's matters.

When the hexagram and the world line share the same day branch, it is likely about livestock or marriage. If the hexagram and the world line share the same day branch without any mutual control, it is about grave sites or brothers and relatives. If the day branch overcomes the world line, it is about funerals or possibly strange occurrences and disputes between people. If a wandering soul hexagram is obtained and the world line and response line mutually overcome each other, it indicates uncertain thoughts in the mind of the person consulting the oracle or that the question is asked on behalf of someone else. If the world line and response line are attacked and harmed by the day branch and the month builder, it indicates official troubles, theft, death, and fear. If it is not about disputes with others, there will certainly be loss of money and crying. If the response line overcomes the world line, it means others are scheming against me. If the world line moves to overcome the response line, it means I am scheming against others. If the world line is prosperous and mutually generating, there will be official interference. If the world line is weak and accompanied byInauspicious Sha (evil killing), it means ghosts are invading. If the world line is yin, the matter occurs before the month builder; if the world line is yang, the matter has already passed after the month builder. As long as one carefully examines these meanings, what else can be included in the hexagram?

Fragmented Gold Essay

Critical: The output must be English prose. Do NOT rewrite the text in Chinese. Do NOT paraphrase it in Chinese. Every sentence you write must be in English. Heavenly Stems: Jia = Jia, Yi = Yi, Bing = Bing, Ding = Ding, Wu = Wu, Ji = Ji, Geng = Geng, Xin = Xin, Ren = Ren, Gui = Gui Earthly Branches: Zi = Zi, Chou = Chou, Yin = Yin, Mao = Mao, Chen = Chen, Si = Si, Wu = Wu, Wei = Wei, Shen = Shen, You = You, Xu = Xu, Hai = Hai Trigrams: Qian = Qian (Heaven), Dui = Dui (Lake), Li = Li (Fire), Zhen = Zhen (Thunder), Xun = Xun (Wind), Kan = Kan (Water), Gen = Gen (Mountain), Kun = Kun (Earth) Glossary: Sheng Fu = generate and support Fu Mu = Parents Xiong Di = Siblings Zi Sun = Children Qi Cai = Wealth Guan Gui = Official Ghost Children's hexagram moves and can generate and support wealth. However, it is feared that the Parents' hexagram also moves — "bai" means movement. Because when the Children's hexagram moves, it generates wealth. If the Parents' hexagram moves and restrains the Children's hexagram, then the Children cannot generate wealth. When the Siblings' hexagram moves, it restrains wealth. At this time, if the Children's hexagram moves, the Siblings will certainly be greedy to support the Children and forget to restrain wealth. This is called "tan sheng wang ke", and wealth is thus actually generated. When the Wealth hexagram moves, it can generate the Official Ghost. The most feared situation is when the Siblings' hexagram moves — "yao" also means movement. Because when wealth moves, it can generate the Official Ghost. If the Siblings' hexagram moves and restrains wealth, then the Official Ghost cannot be supported. If the Children's hexagram moves, it can naturally restrain the Official Ghost; however, at this time, if the Wealth hexagram also moves, it will drain the Children's energy to the Wealth, and the Wealth will then generate the Official Ghost, thus nourishing the Official Ghost's energy.

The parents'爻 becomes active and can generate the siblings; however, if the wife's wealth爻 becomes active, it will restrain the parents. When the official ghost爻 becomes active, it will restrain the siblings, and at this time, if the parents'爻 becomes active, it can release the ghost's energy. The parents are the original god of the siblings, and they fear the wife's wealth爻 restraining them; the official ghost is the hostile god of the siblings, and it is welcomed when the parents release it. If the parents'爻 becomes active and generates the siblings, but the wife's wealth爻 also becomes active, the parents will be ineffective and unable to generate the siblings. When the official ghost爻 becomes active and restrains the siblings, if the parents'爻 becomes active, it will release the official ghost's energy, preventing the ghost from causing great harm; because the ghost generates the parents, and the parents generate the siblings, this is the principle of "desiring to nourish rather than to restrain." When the official ghost爻 becomes active and generates the parents, it is disliked if the children's爻 becomes active—"intersecting" means movement. The official ghost naturally generates the parents, but if the children's爻 becomes active, it will restrain the official ghost, preventing it from generating the parents. When the wife's wealth爻 becomes active and restrains the parents, if the official ghost爻 becomes active, the wife's wealth will desire to generate the ghost rather than restrain the parents, and the official ghost becomes the mediator between the wealth and the parents.

The brothers' line moving can generate the children's line, but it is unfavorable if the official ghost line moves. "Shaking" also means movement. When the brothers move, they generate the children; if the official ghost moves and restrains the brothers, the children lose their original god. If the parents' line moves and restrains the children, then if the brothers move, it reduces the parents' harmful influence, and the children are not harmed. If the children's line moves to restrain the official ghost, and the parents' line also moves, it is not a problem; but if the brothers move along with it, the official ghost will certainly be harmed. "Xing" also means movement. When the children's line moves, it certainly harms the official ghost. If the parents' line moves and restrains the children, the official ghost is not harmed; but if the brothers move to generate the children, the children become even stronger, and the official ghost will definitely be harmed.

When the wealth line is activated, it will necessarily harm the parents. At this time, if the siblings line is activated, there is no need to worry. However, if the children line is activated, the parents' lives are in danger. Once the wealth line is activated, it will definitely harm the parents. If the siblings line is activated to overcome the wealth line, then the wealth line will no longer be able to harm the parents. If the children line is activated to support the wealth line, the wealth line will surely rise in power, making it difficult for the parents to rescue themselves. When the parents line is activated, it will harm the children. At this time, if the wealth line is activated, there will be no problem. However, if the official ghost line is activated, the children will surely die. When the parents line is activated and harms the children, if the wealth line is activated to overcome the parents, the children will be saved. However, if the official ghost line is activated, it will further intensify the parents' harmful influence, and the children will certainly die.

The official ghost moves and can overcome the siblings, at this time if the children move, it can save the siblings; if the wife's wealth also moves, the siblings will not last long. The official ghost's power can overcome the siblings, if the children move and overcome the official ghost, the siblings will be saved; if the wife's wealth moves to generate the official ghost, the official ghost's evil will become stronger, and the siblings will be difficult to save. If the siblings move, they can overcome the wife's wealth, at this time if the official ghost moves and overcomes the siblings, the wealth will be safe; if the parents move to generate the siblings, the siblings will become even more fierce, and the wife's wealth will certainly suffer harm. Those who understand divination should carefully examine these points.
