Charting guides: Liu Yao Divination Chart, Da Yan Yarrow Stalk Divination

A horse wandering in the land of the Post Horse indicates a person breaking away from their family and leaving their homeland. The land of the Post Horse refers to Jiayin, Wuchen, and Dingsi. If the stars of winter or the current year fall into these positions, it signifies a person being separated from their family and going far away; otherwise, it may indicate entering a religious order. When the "Zhen Water Earthworm" enters the Double Fish territory, it causes harm to the parents and injures oneself. The Double Fish refers to Dinghai. Hai is the territory of the pig and the wild boar. If the Earthworm falls into this palace, and if it occurs in spring or summer during the day, or if the fortune, time, or celestial movement aligns with this, it indicates harm to the parents, injury to the spouse, and self-suffering as well.

Those whose命宫 is at Tian Chong and 身宫 is at Ji Di are destined to die young. (Tian Chong is You, Ji Di is Chou. If these two positions are occupied, and if there is also a shallow and evil transformation, death in youth is certain.) Those whose 胎宫 is at Di Wang and 命宫 is at Tian Luo will experience hardship and not live long. (Di Wang is Jiachen and Yisi, Tian Luo is Jiaxu and Yihai. If the stars 胎 and 命 are afflicted by these, they will not live long.)

A person who lives in a tiger's den will face worries of being demoted in official position. (When "Shi Fire Pig" falls on Yihai or Xinhai, it transforms into a flying bear, indicating a noble destiny; but if the year or limit encounters Bingyin or Renyin, which are tiger lands, there will certainly be loss of official position and retirement.) A fox entering a horse courtyard, even if reduced to being a courtesan, will eventually find a good path. (A fox entering Bingwu transforms into a golden-saddled horse. Although the palace it falls into is lowly, if the year or limit brings the meteor to this position, it will certainly find a way to leave the world of courtesans and become virtuous.)

The rat in the snake's den will certainly encounter the hanging needle calamity. (Dingsi transforms into a sickly condition, which is also the hanging needle calamity, indicating physical disfigurement.) The sheep entering the dog's herd will certainly face legal punishment. (The dog's herd refers to Gengxu. If this falls in the palace position, it indicates a different lifespan; if the palace is in a favorable position, it may still be bearable, but if the age or year of destiny coincides with this, it will bring numerous disasters and continuous punishments. )

"The Neck mansion" suffers damage from thunder when it occurs out of its proper time. (The method of interpreting thunder damage has already been explained in the previous annotations.) "The Water Leopard of Ji" will inevitably be devoured when it leaves the mountains and forests and encounters the狴犴. (The leopard fears the犴. If the leopard loses its territory, and in the large or small limits it falls under "the Wood犴 of Well," or if the person's age or destiny falls in the乙未犴 mansion, the person will surely die without salvation.)

A swallow flying into the vast sea will surely suffer water calamity by the time of Winter Solstice. (The vast sea refers to Renxu and Guihai. Those born in the month of Winter and falling into this palace are most inauspicious; even if they do not die young, they will certainly be lonely and destitute.) "Female bat" fears the staff and rod; those born in summer will surely be beaten to death with the staff and rod. (Jiawu is the correct staff and rod. If a bat is born in summer and also falls into the hours of寅, 卯, 酉, or 戌, and later encounters this in their destiny, they will certainly suffer punishment and death.)

A pig entering the empty gate and encountering a tiger fight, all his life is confined in prison and emptiness. (The empty gate is Xinwei. If a pig falls into this palace, and during the years or cycles there is again a tiger, leopard, jackal, or wolf, it indicates legal troubles and suffering, eventually dying in prison.) A sheep residing in a broken shed and suffering dog injury, half his life is poor and his eyes are injured. (The broken shed is Bingshen. If a sheep falls into this palace, and during the cycle or major and minor limits there is again a dog, wolf, or similar, it certainly causes hidden injury to the eyes and poverty and loss of home.)

A horse encountering weapons will surely become a headless ghost. (Weapons refer to Bingxu and Wuxu. If the horse's position falls in a declining or exhausted place, and the person was born in winter, with the year or fortune cycle coinciding with this, and further encountering a sharp blade conflicting, it indicates a death by misfortune.) A獐 encountering arrows will certainly become someone with facial tattoos. (Arrows refer to Jiashen and Bingshen. If the position falls on the Black Path, and the person was born at night, they are certainly a bad person; if the year or fortune cycle coincides with this, they will certainly suffer the punishment of facial tattooing and forced labor; otherwise, they will die from hidden injuries.)

The "Well Wood Omen" meets Guimao, resulting in self-suspension and hanging corpse. (This entry has already been mentioned in previous annotations.) The "Ox Gold Ox" meets Bingyin, leading to sorrow and self-cutting. (When the Ox is in the mountains and forests, born in autumn or winter night, and its course meets Bingyin, with additional occurrences of meteors, tigers, leopards, etc., it will certainly die by non-official punishment.)

The rabbit enters the hunting ground and meets the dog, just like Tian Heng who had the worry of dying in a roadside inn. The hunting ground is Gengwu, and Gengxu is the hunting dog. The rabbit falls into the four wilderness palaces, is born in winter, moves to the Geng position, and meets a shooting star again like "Lou Jin Gou" and will surely die without rescue. Tian Heng's main star is "Fang Ri Tu", born in August, falls into the Jiachen palace and turns into a lion; at the age of thirty-two, he enters the Dingwei period and turns into a trap and is greatly trapped. "Xing Ri Ma" is the shooting star, "Lou Jin Gou" falls into the Gengwu palace, and that year he committed suicide.

The "Well Wood Beast" encountering a pit and seeing a fox is like Xiang Yu's defeat at Wu River. Bingxu is a fire pit, Bingchen is a fire gun. If the Beast is in the four wild mansions or in the mountains and forests, and runs through Bingxu, the small limit sees foxes, hares, and red monkeys, and the year of the Great Age also meets Bingshen and Xinyou, then death is inevitable and cannot be avoided. Xiang Yu's main star is "Well Wood Beast," located in the Yiwei mansion, born in May; at thirty-three years old, he was in the Wuxu destiny, transformed into a jade pit; the small limit "Heart Mansion Fox" was in the Yiwei mansion, and the meteor "Root Mansion" reached the Bingshen mansion, and that year he committed suicide by cutting his throat.

A deer standing with an empty void indicates a white-haired poor scholar. (Since the胎星, 命星, or 身星 are all deer, when they fall into an empty void, they will ultimately find it hard to achieve success.) A horse moving about encountering a noble deity signifies an extraordinary person of high status. (所谓马往来 means that the main star is a horse, or the 身星 or 命星 is a horse, all in a flourishing palace, and both the large and small limits also meet the main star, which is considered the supreme kind of nobility.)

Deer being broken and horse falling into emptiness indicate corrupt officials and soldiers. (If the胎, 命, and 身 stars are deer and horse, but they are located in the empty and conflicting positions, the nature of deer becomes corrupt and greedy. Generally, it is determined by the principle of transformation. If the transformation is auspicious, it is auspicious; if it is inauspicious, it is inauspicious.) Pigs in the pigpen facing dogs indicate people from the marketplace who are butchers. (If the胎, 命, and 身 stars are pigs and dogs, and they are located in the sharp and harmful positions, and if they are born in autumn, they are definitely people like butchers and traders who are stingy.)

A tiger fighting against the mansion of the Neck (Kang Jin Long) will be wealthy but certainly not long-lived. (The main star is the tiger and it is in a strong palace, while the body and life star are both in the same palace as the Neck mansion, which is called mutual conflict. If the year, destiny, or limit also meets Yi Wei or the mansion of the Well Wood Ox (Jing Mu An), the person will suddenly die while feeling content and successful.) A fox that is suspicious and relies on the mansion of the Dog (Lou Jin Gou) will, even if prosperous, inevitably die young. (Foxes are naturally suspicious, and foxes fear dogs; so 'going together' means being in the same palace. Even if born in autumn night with strong spiritual power, they will still suffer injury; if the small or large limit also meets the meteor of the Dog (Lou Jin Gou), death is certain.)

When the tiger meets the dog and the dog meets the fox, there will certainly be imprisonment and binding. (The main star is 'Tail Fire Tiger', the major limit 'Well Wood Dog' injures the tiger, and the minor limit meteor 'Heart Moon Fox' injures the dog; they mutually restrain each other; although there is damage, it only indicates official troubles and financial loss.) When the water worm of the轸 meets the chicken and the chicken meets the hawk, it will certainly result in death in the mud. (The main star is 'Zhen Water Worm', the major limit is '昴 Day Chicken', and the meteor minor limit sees 'Bi Moon Crow' falling in the Wei palace, where the Wei position transforms into a hawk; furthermore, if born in autumn and located on the empty field, it will certainly result in death with no one to save.)

The horse with banners and official seals indicates a servant in charge of punishment; the pig of Fei Lian encountering harm from the top hex is a person destined to marry far away. (These transformations are not well documented, so I dare not explain them forcefully.) When pigs and Yu fall in Bingwu, those born in summer will perish by fire. (Bingwu is the most vigorous fire; those born in the fifth month are certain to face a calamity of fire.)

Birds and swallows flying in Bingyin are doomed to die in ashes if born in winter. (Bingyin signifies the burning of mountains. Birds make noise on winter nights, and swallows hide in mountains during winter. Once they meet the fire of burning mountains, they cannot survive.) Foxes pierced by arrows suffer from hidden diseases. (Jiashen represents the bow, and Xinyou represents the arrow. Those born in autumn or winter during the day are prone to internal injuries and hidden ailments.)

An animal wounded by swords and spears, running in panic with its movements exposed. (Jiashen and Gengshen indicate swords and arrows, Bingshen and Xinyou indicate spears and halberds. Those born in autumn, winter, or during the day are likely to suffer minor calamities and troubles, or even die from legal punishment.) The "Water Monkey" has lofty and pure aspirations. (Monkeys are naturally greedy and stubborn, yet their actions are clean and free-spirited.)

The nature of the Ox, Jinniu, is steady and mild. (The nature of Jinniu is most steady and mild, with a concern for others, yet it does not gain the favor of people.) Those with Ch轸 Shui Yun and Yì Huo She in the position of Wei should avoid being bitten by hawks, which would harm the body. (Yiwei is the Horned Hawk. When Yun and She fall in this palace, it is most dangerous to be born in autumn, which is a dead end with no fortune to be gained.)

Stars of strength and ferocity falling on the Black Path indicate a person will receive their lifetime's fortune. (The Black Path refers to Ren and Gui. Strong stars refer to tiger, leopard, wolf, and dog. Tigers and leopards thrive on Renwu and Guichou, while wolves and dogs thrive on Renwu, Renshen, and Guiyou, and they must be born at night to be prosperous.) Hidden dwellings falling in the bright direction mean a person will never achieve success in their lifetime. (The bright direction refers to Bingwu, Dingwei, Bingyin, and Dingmao. Foxes, leopards, rabbits, wolves, rats, and bats are not suitable for this palace. Especially avoiding birth during the day, which leads to confusion, indecision, ignorance, and lack of wisdom.)

The "Shan Shui Yuan" (Water Monkey) attains fortune when it crosses over the "Zhang Yue Lu" (Moon Deer), especially if born in autumn, leading to wealth and a noble bearing. (Crossing the deer may refer to the palace position falling on Renwu or the destiny and body stars being "Zhang Yue Lu." Both animals belong to the mountain and forest category; if born in autumn, the person will achieve both wealth and prestige.) The "Wei Tu Zhi" (Earth Chicken) attains a superior pattern by riding a dragon, especially if born in summer, leading to honor and solid achievements. (Riding a dragon refers to the positions of Jiachen or Gengchen. If these positions are occupied, it is most favorable for birth in summer.)

"The Star of the Celestial Wolf (Bi Yue Wu) perches on the back of the Ox Gold Ox (Niu Jin Niu), and in spring, promotion and honor come about. (The Gold Ox is Xinchou. The Wolf falling in this palace is favorable for birth in spring.) The Water Monkey (Can Shui Yuan) follows the authority of the Heavenly Horse, and those born in autumn will be wealthy. (The Heavenly Horse is Bingwu. Either the palace position falls here or the person's star is of the Star Mansion type, and being born in autumn, although the Five Phases may have conflict, it still indicates a life of comfort and wealth.)"

The ones called "Yi Huo Sha" (Winged Fire Snake) and "Zhen Shui Yin" (Zhen Water Worm) residing in the Chen position may experience the joy of evolving into a dragon. (Snake and worm are both creatures that move in a winding manner. If they fall in Jiachen, Gengchen, or Renchen, they can transform into dragons. They must be born in the third spring season, and also require the presence of壬,癸,亥, or 子 in the age or destiny to receive assistance from wind and thunder, allowing them to achieve great success.) However, if a dragon falls into the Si position, it may suffer the sorrow of degenerating into a snake or worm. (When the stars of dragon and jiao fall into Dingsi, Jisi, or Guisi, they degenerate into snakes and worms, indicating a poor and humble fate. The original text mistakenly wrote 'ren' instead of 'ru', and this is recorded as is.)

"The Wood Ox (Jingmu An) can eat tigers, leopards, and dragons, but must be extremely cautious of foxes and hares. (This kind of beast is fierce and venomous, difficult to resist; it can capture tigers and leopards on the mountain and devour dragons in the water. However, it fears foxes and hares. If the palace it falls into is strong and the fortune period also encounters such transformed paths, the master will have great authority and an overwhelming presence over all officials. But if a meteor or short period encounters 'Xin Yue Hu' (Heart Mansion) and similar things, there will be unexpected calamities.) 'Di Tu He' (Root Mansion) can swallow rats, bats, pheasants, and chickens, but fears encountering jackals and dogs. (Hare takes these four things as its food. If the fortune period encounters Geng Xu or Wu Xu, or if the meteor is 'Lou Jin Gou' (Dog Mansion), it will bring disaster and injury even when it is supposed to get food.)"

The person named Niu JinNiu who is in the Bingzi palace should be cautious of fire burning the enclosure at night. (Fire burning the enclosure refers to Bingshen, Dingchou, and Dingyou. Cows and sheep born in winter at night in this palace will be displaced, wandering elsewhere, unable to hold onto their ancestral property.) The person named Zhang YueLu who encounters Yin or Mao in the year will have honor of picking flowers in spring. (Jiayin and Yimao represent the main mountain forest. Jiab and Yib represent the land of grass and trees, and the homeland of beasts. The deer in this palace transforms into a auspicious deer. If born in the second or third month during the day, it indicates wealth and honor, prosperity and success.)

Bats entering the vermilion gate indicate great fortune in spring. (The vermilion gate refers to Bingzi, Bingwu, and Dingmao. A bat of the Xinyou type entering this palace is auspicious when born in spring.) The "female earth bat" flying into the hall indicates wealth if born in summer. (The hall refers to Gengzi, Wuwu, and Yiyou. A bat entering this palace is auspicious when born in summer, indicating high status.)

The dragon resides in the vast sea but lacks the壬癸, resulting in a state of dryness and obstruction. The vast sea refers to Renzi, Renxu, and Guihai. When the dragon falls into this palace, those born in autumn or winter are at the time of hibernation, relying entirely on water for harmony. If the four pillars do not contain癸,亥, or 子, and the fortune does not come to support, then it becomes dry and stagnant. Even if a temporary flow of water appears to assist, it is only a short-term relief, and there is no lasting fortune.

A swallow entering the empty gate accompanied by Bing and Ding transforms into a laughing nest. The empty gate refers to Wu Zi, Geng Wu, Xin Mao, and Ji You. If a swallow lands in this palace and there are many instances of Bing and Ding in the four pillars, or if the year or fortune includes Bing Yin, Ding Mao, Ding Wei, or Bing Xu, and if the time is also lost, the person will not inherit ancestral property. It is like a peach blossom drifting with the waves, without fixed form, or willow fluff carried by the wind, without constant sentiment. Such a person is one who blooms in the morning and withers by evening.

The crow and pheasant regard the snake and earthworm as food andofficial stipend. (Dingsi represents the snake, and Guisi represents the earthworm, which are usually disliked by the crow and pheasant; however, this palace is favorable for birth in spring and summer, and thus is considered as food god. If the year or big fate encounters the snake or earthworm, it indicates plans made in the east will be realized in the west, work done in the morning will be completed in the evening, and everything will be to one's satisfaction.) The tiger and leopard gain food when encountering the pig and sheep. (The pig and sheep refer to Xinwei and Dinghai, or Wuwu and Renwu, which are all food gods. Or if during the small or big fate period, the meteor appears along with the pig, sheep, deer, or antelope, it is the same. It is necessary to be born in autumn or winter at night to attain official rank.)

The swallow entering the ocean, there is worry of living in poverty with no family. (The ocean refers to Renxu and Guihai. When the swallow falls into this palace, it does not bring benefit in any of the four seasons. The master is intelligent but lonely and poor all his life.) The rabbit entering the mountains and forests, may attain an official position of third rank. (The mountains and forests refer to Jiayin and Yimao. When the rabbit falls into these two palaces, or when one's fortune or time reaches these positions, it is favorable for high office in the government and legal departments; being born in spring or autumn at night is most auspicious.)

A dragon roaring in the vast sea at the right time will attain a high position, such as the Three Dukes. (The vast sea refers to Renzi and Guihai. When the dragon falls into this palace, it is suitable for birth in February or March. The four pillars should contain characters such as Ren, Gui, Hai, Mao, and Zi to assist. When the destiny moves to such palace positions, success is possible, indicating the ability to harmonize the state affairs and balance yin and yang, which is the highest rank of nobility.) A tiger roaring in the mountains and forests and entering a pattern can be granted the title of ten thousand households. (When the tiger is in the mountains and forests, it should be born in autumn or winter at night. The five stars should be calm, and the years and destinies should be mutually generating. When noble, it indicates a position as a general in the border defense or a marquis with land, indicating great power and authority.)

The dragon and phoenix are represented by the combination of Ren and Wu, which is known as Renwu. If a dragon is born in this combination during spring, and the four pillars support it, with the year and the ten thousand things (years and months) generating it, then the person will have the ability to gather scholars and warriors around him, and the people will look up to him. The tiger roaring amidst clouds and winds indicates the emergence of a general or minister who issues commands.
