One: What official position is it?

凡四直貴馬聚於身世爻，更德合相扶，在官印陽爻者，必職在阿衡助和鼎昧也。加刑刃大殺者，出將入相也。加太歲或五爻生合之者，必榮膺燕賜，後蔭前卦也。又太歲與五爻生合世身者，朝仕也。沖剋世身者，外任也。世爻官爻在內卦動者，外任也。在外卦動者，朝仕也。（五為君位，四六皆近君者。）官貴持世，在陽宮陽爻者，文職。陰宮陰爻者，武弁也。世持歲破者朝仕，則六部通都在大也。外任則布按都司也。（太歲為天子，風歲破取重臣遙對天子之象。）世持月建者，巡方安撫行人也。（取四時巡環之象。）世持日建者，郡邑之宰也。（取朝夕蔽民之象。）

All instances of "Nobleman" and "Post Horse" among the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches of the year, month, day, and hour are gathered on the Hexagram Body and World Line. If further supported by "Heavenly Virtue" and "Six Harmony," and if they fall on the Yang lines of "Official Ghost" and "Seal of Favor," the person will certainly hold a high official position, like Yi Yin as the Grand Minister, harmonizing the state affairs. If further combined with "Three Punishments," "Sheep's Blade," and "Great Sha," the person will be a prominent minister who serves as a general in the field and a minister in the court. If the year stem is involved, or if the fifth line generates and harmonizes with the Hexagram Body and World Line, the person will certainly receive royal feasts and rewards, with descendants benefiting from the honor and ancestors receiving titles. If the year stem generates and harmonizes with the Hexagram Body and World Line, the person holds an official post in the capital; if it clashes and controls the Hexagram Body and World Line, the person holds an official post in the outside regions. If the World Line or "Official Ghost" line is activated within the Inner Trigram, the person holds an outside post; if activated in the Outer Trigram, the person holds a court post. (Original note: The fifth line represents the sovereign's position, while the fourth and sixth lines are positions close to the sovereign.) If "Official Ghost" and "Nobleman" hold the World Line and fall on Yang palace and Yang lines, the position is civil; if they fall on Yin palace and Yin lines, the position is military. 世持官貴祿馬，又得歲月文書來生合，威權風憲之職也。世持官印旺相，而旁爻帶貴人祿馬來扶者，但為正官，而不風憲也。又世持官貴祿馬，不空刑剋破者，其在金爻旺相，京官則司馬司寇大理中丞也。衰則尚寶鄉武選車駕職方武庫郎也，武則五府衣使也。在外任者，旺則總制撫按，觀察，總兵也，衰則恤刑司理，參遊，把總也。

The world line is occupied by the official star, nobleman, official salary, and post horse, and is also supported and harmonized by the heavenly stem, month builder, and official documents. This indicates a position of authority in the imperial court's supervisory and disciplinary office (the Board of Censors). If the world line is occupied by the official ghost and official seal, and is prosperous and strong, but only has the nobleman, official salary, and post horse supporting it from other positions, then it is only a regular official, not a supervisory or disciplinary official. If the world line is occupied by the official star, nobleman, official salary, and post horse, and is not empty, not harmed, not attacked, and is strong, then if it is in the metal element and is strong, the official will be a high-ranking official such as the Minister of War, Minister of Justice, Grand Judge, or Deputy Director of the Censorate. If it is weak, then the official will be a lower-ranking official such as the Keeper of the Imperial Seal, the Minister of Military Selection, the Minister of Military Transport, the Minister of Military Affairs, and the Minister of Military Supplies. For military positions, it will be the Commander of the Five Military Commands or the Director of the Imperial Guard. If the official is stationed outside the capital, then if strong, the official will be the Grand Commissioner, the Governor, the Inspector General, the Inspector, or the Commander. 木爻旺相京官則司空，衰則營繕，虞衡司也，在外任者，旺則關津主稅，衰亦稅課茶水之職也。水爻旺相京官則家宰也。（取其銓衡如水之平。）衰則文選稽勳封驗都水郎也。在外任者，旺則鹽漕河道操江也。衰則水利鹽運糧運之職也。

In the world, if the "official star" falls on the wood trigram and is prosperous and strong, then the official in the capital would be the Minister of Works (Director of the Ministry of Works) ; if it is weak, then the official would be a subordinate of the Bureau of Construction and the Bureau of Supervision and Inspection. If it is an external appointment, then prosperity would mean an official in charge of customs and taxation at key river crossings, while weakness would mean duties in the Bureau of Taxation and the Office of Tea and Water. If the "official star" falls on the water trigram and is prosperous and strong, then the official in the capital would be the Minister of Personnel (Chief Minister of the Ministry of Personnel) — taking the meaning of balancing talents like water; if it is weak, then the official would be a deputy in the Bureau of Selection of Officials, the Bureau of Records and Honors, the Bureau of Seals and Verification, and the Bureau of Waterways. If it is an external appointment, then prosperity would mean positions such as the Commissioner of Salt Transportation, the Commissioner of Grain Transportation, the Commissioner of Waterways, and the Commissioner of the Yangtze River; while weakness would mean duties in the Bureau of Waterways, the Bureau of Salt Transportation, and the Bureau of Grain Transportation.

火爻旺相京官則宗伯宮詹學士司成司業太常翰林之官也，衰則中書也。旺加雀，則科道。衰則鴻臚也。在午爻者，旺則司馬，衰亦苑馬也。在外任者，帶文昌驛馬加月建者，非典試之官，必督學之官也。衰則文學爐冶坑場之職也。

In the world, if the official star (官星) falls on the fire line (火爻) and is prosperous and strong (旺相), then officials in the capital such as the Minister of Rites (宗伯), the Deputy Director of the Hanlin Academy (少詹事), the Scholar-official (学士), the Director of the National University (司成), the Vice Director (司业), the Minister of Rites (太常寺卿), and various officials of the Hanlin Academy are involved. If it is weak (衰), then the Attendant of the Secretariat (中书舍人) is involved. If it is prosperous and strong and also accompanied by the Vermilion Bird (朱雀), then officials such as the Six Departments' Attendants (六科给事中) and the thirteen imperial censors (十三道御史) are involved; if it is weak, then officials of the Office of the Imperial Guest (鸿胪寺) are involved. If it falls on the午爻, then if it is prosperous, it refers to the Minister of War (兵部尚书,司马); if it is weak, it refers to the Superintendent of the Imperial Stables (苑马寺卿). For officials in the outer provinces, if they carry the Wen Chang star (文昌) and the Post Horse (驿马) and are accompanied by the Month Builder (月建), then they are either examiners (典试官) or officials overseeing education (提督学政); if it is weak, then they are local educational officials (府州县教官), or officials managing metallurgy, mines, and other related duties.

上爻旺相，京官則司農京兆巡城倉院也，加龍德則光祿也。在外任者，旺則方伯，屯田督運督糧也。衰則郡守邑宰開礦取石墾闢之使也。世持官貴祿而無印綬者，佐貳也。世持衰官得日辰動財來生合，或伏財化財者，倉場府庫驛典之官也。世持官印，而無財者，非正選而差委之官也。（筮訣曰卦若無財必非正選。）官衰印旺者，署印官也。

In the world, if the "official star" falls on the earth branch of earth and is prosperous and strong, then the official position would be the Minister of Revenue (Director of the Ministry of Agriculture), the Governor of the Capital (Capital Governor), the Inspector of the City, and the Grand Superintendent of the Granaries. If the world line only has the "official star," "nobleman," and "salary" but lacks the "imperial seal," then it is an assistant official (such as the Deputy Governor or Commissioner). If the "official star" is weak but is supported by the day branch or activated "wealth" to generate and harmonize, or if there is hidden "wealth" or it transforms into "wealth," then the official is in charge of granaries, treasuries, and relay stations. If the world line has the "official ghost" and "imperial seal" but the divination lacks "wealth," then it is not an official appointment through the regular selection process, but rather a temporary assignment. (Original note: The "Said of Divination" states that if the divination lacks "wealth," it is definitely not a regular appointment.) If the "official ghost" is weak but the "imperial seal" is strong, then it is an acting official in charge of administrative duties.

官臨身世，與財爻獨發，或世官加書貴，帶龍雀動，或歲月帶官印生合世身者，選也。世下伏官，或伏驛馬印綬者，遲選。世持官貴值升爻，而休囚受克者，下選。世加夜貴帶龍雀動者，方催選陪點也。卦無官印，與官印空絕，或身世空絕，或子持世旺動，或子孫獨發者，俱不得選也。鬼化鬼者，事多反覆也。鬼動而財空絕者，選司無力也。官絕逢生者，事雖有沮，終得貴人力而成也。身世隨鬼入墓者選不成，成亦不如意也。若值丁未戊戌二殺墓者，雖選官到任，而旅親回鄉也。鬼帶亡劫大殺克世身者，雖選官而不得赴任也。

When the Official Ghost is on the Hexagram Body and World Line, and the Wealth爻 rises alone; or when the World Line has the Official Ghost with the daytime Nobleman, accompanied by the Azure Dragon and Vermilion Bird; or when the Year Master and Month Builder bring the Official Ghost and Seal Cord to generate and harmonize with the Hexagram Body and World Line: these all indicate the possibility of being appointed to an official position. If the World Line is covered by the Official Ghost, or by the Post Horse and Seal Cord, the appointment should be delayed. If the World Line is occupied by the Official Star and Nobleman but falls on the rising爻 and is weak and confined, one can only be appointed to a lower position. If the World Line has the night Nobleman and is accompanied by the Azure Dragon and Vermilion Bird, it indicates that the appointment is currently in the stage of being urged and accompanied. If the hexagram lacks the Official Ghost and Seal Cord, or if the Official Ghost and Seal Cord fall in emptiness or decline, or if the Hexagram Body and World Line fall in emptiness or decline, or if the Children爻 holds the World Line and is prosperous and strong, or if the Children爻 rises alone: none of these can result in an appointment. If the Official Ghost transforms into another Official Ghost, the matter will be complicated and repeated. If the Official Ghost is activated but the Wealth爻 falls in emptiness or decline, it indicates that the appointment office is unwilling to exert effort. If the Official Ghost falls in decline but is supported by a beneficial force, although there may be obstacles, it will eventually succeed with the help of a Nobleman. If the Hexagram Body and World Line fall into the tomb along with the Official Ghost, the appointment will not be successful; even if it is successful, it will not be satisfactory. If encountering the two bad tomb positions, Dingwei and Wuxu, although one is appointed to an official position and reaches the post, one must return home to mourn and accompany the deceased. If the Official Ghost is accompanied by the Wandering Spirit, Robbery Sha, and Great Sha to attack the Hexagram Body and World Line, although one is appointed to an official position, one cannot go to take office.

卦有官無父，或父值空死墓絕胎者，無在所也。欲知何日得官，官旺動者，遠則以值年合月為期，近則以值月合日為期也。官旺靜者，以沖動之年月日為期也。官伏藏者，以臨值之年月日為期也。官臨火動，選速，水動選遲也。又看卦宮，宮居艮，立春後選。宮居震，春分後選。宮居巽，立夏後選。宮居離，夏至後選。宮居坤，立秋後選。宮居兌，秋分後選。宮居乾，立冬後選。宮居坎，冬至後選也。

If the hexagram contains "Official Ghost" but not "Parents," or if "Parents" are in the position of emptiness, death, burial, decline, or fetal stage, there will be no official appointment or position. To determine the day when an official appointment is obtained: if "Official Ghost" is prosperous and active, then for distant timing, take the year it is in charge of, and the month it matches; for near timing, take the month it is in charge of, and the day it matches. If "Official Ghost" is prosperous but inactive, then take the year, month, and day that stimulate it. If "Official Ghost" is hidden, then take the year, month, and day it is in charge of. If "Official Ghost" is activated by the fire line, the selection is quick; if activated by the water line, the selection is slow. Additionally, one must consider the hexagram's affiliated palace: if it belongs to the mountain palace, selection occurs after the Beginning of Spring; if it belongs to the thunder palace, after the Vernal Equinox; if it belongs to the wind palace, after the Beginning of Summer; if it belongs to the fire palace, after the Summer Solstice; if it belongs to the earth palace, after the Beginning of Autumn; if it belongs to the lake palace, after the Autumn Equinox; if it belongs to the heaven palace, after the Beginning of Winter; if it belongs to the water palace, after the Winter Solstice.

以文書為用。旺則墓日可領，衰則生旺日可領，伏藏則臨值之日領也。卦無父，與父臨空死墓絕胎者，候久而不得也。又父化父者，文憑不實也。

Receive the official document by using the "Parents" line as the useful god. If the "Parents" line is prosperous and strong, you can receive the document on the day it enters its tomb. If it is weak, you can receive it on the day it is born or becomes strong. If it is hidden, you can receive it on the day it is active. If the卦 does not have the "Parents" line, or if the "Parents" line is in an empty, dead, tomb,绝, or fetal position, you will not be able to receive the document for a long time. Also, if the "Parents" line transforms into another "Parents" line, the official document is not genuine and there may be other changes.

一二世者近，三四世者遠，五六世者愈遠也。六合近，而六沖遠也。世屬子，則坎宮女虛危三宿之分野。今山東濟南東昌青州登州萊州五府之地也。世屬丑，則艮宮牛斗二宿之分野，今南京應天揚州徽州寧國池州太平安慶蘇州松江常州鎮江等府，與浙江杭州嘉興湖州寧波紹興台州金華衛州嚴州溫州處州等府，與江西南昌瑞州饒州撫州建昌吉安南安臨江贛州南康九江廣信等府，與福建福州泉州興化福寧州邵武延平建寧汀州漳州等府，及廣東廣州南雄惠州潮州肇慶高州瓊州之地也。

To determine the distance of the appointed place, look at the position of the World Line (世爻). The first and second generations of the hexagram indicate a nearby place, the third and fourth generations indicate a farther place, and the fifth and sixth generations (including wandering souls and returning souls) indicate an even more distant place. The hexagram of Six Harmony (六合) indicates a nearby place, while the hexagram of Six Clashes (六冲) indicates a distant place. Then, according to the earthly branch of the World Line and the twenty-eight star constellations (二十八宿), determine the direction. If the World Line belongs to the earthly branch Zi, it corresponds to the three star constellations of Kan Palace: Nu, Xu, and Wei, which correspond to the areas of Jinan, Dongchang, Qingzhou, Dengzhou, and Laizhou in Shandong today. If the World Line belongs to Chou, it corresponds to the two star constellations of Gen Palace: Niu and Dou, which correspond to the areas of Yingtian, Yangzhou, Huizhou, Ningguo, Chizhou, Taiping, Anqing, Suzhou, Songjiang, Changzhou, and Zhenjiang in Nanjing today, as well as Hangzhou, Jiaxing, Huzhou, Ningbo, Shaoxing, Taizhou, Jinhua, Weizhou, Yanzhou, Wenzhou, and Chuzhou in Zhejiang, Nanchang, Ruzhou, Raozhou, Fuzhou, Jianchang, Ji' an, Nan'an, Linjiang, Ganzhou, Nan' kang, Jiujiang, and Guangxin in Jiangxi, Fuzhou, Quanzhou, Xinghua, Fufengzhou, Shaowu, Yanping, Jianning, and Dingzhou in Fujian, and Guangzhou, Nanxiong, Huizhou, Chaozhou, Zhaoqing, Gaozhou, Qiongzhou in Guangdong. The term '分野' refers to the allocation of the twenty-eight star constellations in the sky to the states and prefectures on earth. If the World Line belongs to a particular branch, find the appointed place in the area corresponding to that branch's constellation. The listed prefectures and states are all from the Ming Dynasty, so when reading, they should be understood according to the Ming Dynasty's territorial boundaries.

世屬寅，則艮宮尾箕二宿分野，今北京順天昌平永平保定河澗等府，與遼東瀋陽等處地也。世屬卯，則震宮氏房心三宿之分野，今南京徐州淮安之地也。世屬辰，則巽宮角亢二宿之分野，今山東兗州府之地也。世屬巳，則巽宮翼軫二宿之分野，今湖廣荊州嶽州長沙寶慶辰州常德衡州永州武昌黃州承天等府，與四川虁州府貴州銅仁黎平府廣東廉州府廣西桂林梧州潯州南寧太平思明柳州慶遠思恩鎮安等府之地也。世屬午，則離宮柳星張三宿之分野，今河南河南府南陽府湖廣鄖陽襄陽德安三府之地也。

世屬未，則坤宮井鬼二宿之分野，今陝西西安漢中鳳翔平涼臨洮鞏昌慶陽延安等府，甘州潼關榆林寧夏甘肅等處，與四川成都龍安順慶保寧重慶敘州馬湖等府，盧州嘉定州卯州眉州雅州等處，與雲南雲南府臨安廣西楚雄姚安武定景東順寧大理蒙化永寧永昌等府，北勝州雲州麗江府鶴慶府與貴州貴陽都勻思州石阡銅仁等府之地也。世屬申，則坤宮畢觜參三宿之分野，今山西太原平陽潞安府沁州澤州汾州渣州之地也。

The World Line belongs to the Earthly Branch of Wei, which is the territory of the two stars Jing and Gui in the Kun Palace. In Yunnan, it includes the governorates of Yunnan, Lian'an, Guangxi, Chuxiong, Naya, Wuding, Jindong, Shunning, Dali, Menghua, Yongning, Yongchang, as well as Beixingshou, Yunzhou, Lijiang, and Heqing in Yunnan. Additionally, it covers the governorates of Guizhou such as Guiyang, Duyun, Sizhou, Shiqian, Tongren. The World Line belonging to Shen is the territory of the three stars Bi, Zui, and Shen in the Kun Palace, corresponding to the modern regions of Taiyuan, Pingyang, and Luxian in Shanxi Province, as well as Qinzhou, Zhezhou, Fenzhou, and Zhaizhou. The territory of Wei is the broadest, spanning across the five provinces of Shaanxi, Gansu, Sichuan, Yunnan, and Guizhou, all belonging to the territories of Jing and Gui. Therefore, those who are appointed to posts outside the region when the World Line belongs to Wei are often assigned to the western frontier. The territory of Shen mainly governs Shanxi Province, belonging to the stars Bi, Zui, and Shen, located in the eastern river region.

世屬酉，則兌宮胃昂二宿之分野，今北直真定順德二府山西大同府之地也。世屬戌，則乾宮奎婁二宿之分野，今南京鳳陽盧州二府徐州之地也。世屬亥，則乾宮室璧二宿之分野，今河南開封彰德衛輝懷慶汝寧等府與北直大名府之地也。

The World Line belongs to You, which corresponds to the celestial regions of Wei and Mao in the Dui palace, that is, the areas of Zhen Ding and Shun De prefectures in present-day Beizhili, as well as Da Tong in Shanxi. If the World Line belongs to Xu, it corresponds to the celestial regions of Kui and Lou in the Qian palace, that is, the areas of Fengyang and Luozhou prefectures under the jurisdiction of Nanjing, as well as Xuzhou. 鬼谷分爻：任所；道路、賓師；車馬；家眷；伴侶；行李。分爻值旺相而逢生合者吉，遇鬼值空，而被刑害克破者，必有災難也。又世為官，應為任所。世克應，道途無阻。應克世，到任不利。世生應，因官耗損。應生世，因官進益也。世空必有災難。陸行憂跌撲，舟行憂風浪。若旺空，惟病而已，或得日辰動爻來沖剋，庶幾免咎也。

The "Ghost Valley Division of Lines" assigns each of the six lines from top to bottom to different aspects of taking office: the top line represents the destination, the fifth line represents the journey and also oversees guests and attendants, the fourth line represents vehicles and horses, the third line represents family members, the second line represents companions, and the first line represents luggage. If a line is prosperous and strong and also receives support and harmony, that aspect will be favorable. However, if that line is occupied by "Official Ghost," falls into emptiness, and is subjected to punishment, harm, or destruction, that aspect will certainly encounter disaster. In addition, the World Line represents the official taking office, and the Response Line represents the destination. If the World Line overcomes the Response Line, the journey will be unobstructed. If the Response Line overcomes the World Line, it will be unfavorable after arriving at the post. If the World Line generates the Response Line, there will be financial loss due to this position. If the Response Line generates the World Line, there will be an increase in income due to this position. If the World Line falls into emptiness, there will certainly be disaster on the way: traveling by land fears falling or getting injured, traveling by water fears storms and waves. If it is prosperous but falls into emptiness, it will only result in an illness. If it is further subjected to conflict or destruction by the Day Branch or a moving line, the disaster can be largely avoided.

官加貴祿臨扶身世者，到任操權也。父加貴馬臨扶身世者，臨庭掌印也。官加龍貴，在陽宮陽爻旺相者，政聲籍甚也。父受傷而財空絕者，地瘠民貧也。父身動而兄世動者，政繁賦缺也。日並兄動傷世者，吏多舞文也。兄化子孫克世者，民多梗化也。道路爻空，巡方之使多驚。子孫旺動，剿捕之官奏凱。太歲傷官，朝仕必黜。月日生世，外任可升。官化財，非獎，則薦也。官貴旺動生合世者，目下蒙薦也。

The official ghost combined with the nobleman and the禄神, located on the hexagram body and world line and generating and supporting it, indicates that after taking office, one can wield real power. 凡財爻帶白衣殺，或財加虎殺，會月建動來刑剋父母爻者，陽丁父艱，陰丁母艱也。又二爻五爻（二為母五為父）帶白衣殺旺動傷世克官者，二爻則母憂，五爻則父憂也。後遇生合官印之年月必起復，或官印生旺之年月起官也。

The interpretation states: The hexagram Qian has the line statements "favorable to meet a great man" on both lines nine two and nine five, which is originally auspicious; however, since it is a hexagram of six clashes transforming into another hexagram of six clashes, and line two, the wood of wife wealth, is in motion to control the documents, while line five, the siblings, is in motion causing further obstruction, the current situation is not favorable for seeking official position. One must wait until the years Chen and Xu, when the official seal is in charge, to seek official position, and only when the fire of official ghost is in charge can one truly obtain an official position.

庚寅年壬午月甲戌日，占在任安否，得歸妹之泰。兌宮：雷澤歸妹（歸魂）；坤宮：地天泰（六合）。伏神、【本卦】【變卦】：父母庚戌土應、兄弟癸酉金應；兄弟庚申金、子孫癸亥水；子孫丁亥水、官鬼庚午火、父母癸丑土；父母丁丑土世、父母甲辰土世；妻財丁卯木、妻財甲寅木；官鬼丁巳火、子孫甲子水。午得化入戌墓，丑印化入辰墓，主災死，惟致仕可免也。

The interpretation says: the world line is zi water, with shen gold hidden below, and gold generating water is the 'imprint and support'; also, the year of yin, the month of wu, and the day of xu form a fire trinity, the post horse gathers at shen, and the world line has both the imprint and the post horse hidden below, so he will surely regain his position. However, the official ghost wu fire in the same palace is hidden in the墓 of xu soil, so it must wait until the year of chen to break open the xu墓 and reveal the wu fire official ghost; also, the year of chen forms a triple harmony with the flying god zi water and the hidden god shen gold of the world line, forming the shen zi chen water trinity. Therefore, in the first month of the year, which is the yin month, he can use money to make efforts, because the official ghost's growth is in yin; in the month of bingwu, he will regain his official position, because the official ghost is strong in wu. The day he takes office is either in the month of wei or the month of xu: soil is the imprint and support, wei and wu official ghost form a six harmony, and xu and wu official ghost form a triple harmony.

遊南子曰，文書之占，有公私之辨焉。雖俱以父母為用，然公占則以官旺為助，私占則以子旺為助也。三傳刑害克破父母者，不成。卦無官父或官父臨空絕，與化空絕者，非不發，則遺失。父值墓胎，與化墓胎，或加勾土旺動者，必阻滯耽隔逗留月日也。

Younanzi said: Divination concerning official documents differs from that concerning private matters. Although both use the 'Parents' line as the useful god, divination concerning official documents requires the 'Official Ghost' to be prosperous and strong as assistance, while divination concerning private documents requires the 'Children' to be prosperous and strong as assistance. If the Three Transmissions, namely the Reigning Year, the Month Builder, and the Day Branch, inflict punishment, cause harm, or overcome the 'Parents' line, the documents will not be processed. If the hexagram lacks the 'Official Ghost' and 'Parents', or if the 'Official Ghost' and 'Parents' are in the state of emptiness or death, or if they are activated into the state of emptiness or death, then the documents are either not issued at all or are lost along the way. If the 'Parents' line is in the墓地 or胎地, or if it is activated into the墓地 or胎地, or if it is combined with the 'Gou Chen' earth line and is prosperous and active, there will certainly be delays and obstructions, which will prolong the matter for some time.

若乃在官而占，文憑誥勅，與夫公文差劄者，但身世坐祿馬貴官印綬，或三傳值官印動來生合身世者，必可得也。為商而占鹽引鈔文，與私居而占契券田貼者，但父母旺動生合世身，而財子旺靜者，有也。應爻空絕墓胎，與世持財加武動者，無也。（財克文書，武克朱雀。）至問文書何時可得者，旺則待入墓之月日，衰則候生旺之月日，旺動則逢合之月日，旺靜則沖動之月日也。若文書伏藏者，待文書臨值之月日得也。

If an official is divining about official documents, imperial edicts, and official letters, as long as the hexagram body and world line have the "Lush" (wealth), "Post Horse", "Nobleman", "Official Star", or "Seal Cord" sitting on them, or if the Tai Su, Yue Jian, and Ri Chen (year, month, day branches) in the three transmissions are exactly "Official Ghost", "Seal Cord" and act to generate and harmonize with the hexagram body and world line, then it is certain to obtain them. If a merchant is divining about salt permits, customs documents, or a household member is divining about contracts and land, as long as the "Parents" are prosperous and strong and act to generate and harmonize with the world line and hexagram body, and the "Wealth" and "Children" are also prosperous and quiet, then it is present. If the response line falls in an empty, dead, tomb, or fetal position, or if the world line has "Wealth" with "Black Tortoise" acting upon it, then it is absent (original note: "Wealth" harms documents, "Black Tortoise" harms "Vermilion Bird"). As for when the documents can be obtained: if "Parents" are prosperous, wait until the month and day when they enter the tomb; if they are weak, wait until the month and day when they become strong; if they are strong and active, wait until the month and day when they harmonize with them; if they are strong and quiet, wait until the month and day when they are stimulated. If the documents are hidden and not visible, wait until the month and day when "Parents" are in charge to obtain them.

庚寅年戊寅月乙卯日，代占求文書，得剝之觀。乾宮：山地剝；乾宮：風地觀。伏神、【本卦】【變卦】：妻財丙寅木、妻財辛卯木；兄弟壬申金、子孫丙子水世、官鬼辛巳火；父母丙戌土、父母辛未土世；妻財乙卯木、妻財乙卯木；官鬼乙巳火應、官鬼乙巳火；父母乙未土、父母乙未土應。傍爻巳官臨應，受歲月日生，人多雲吉，終是被歲月刑巳，又世上旁爻子動傷官，本宮辰戌文書，皆值時空，三傳克之，且世應相剋，人事不和，決主徒勞無成也。

The earth soil of the palace,辰 and戌, are both empty due to the proper season, and the three transmissions are also attacking them; in addition, the world and response lines are in mutual control, indicating disharmony in human affairs. Therefore, it is concluded that this matter will be in vain and ultimately unsuccessful.

庚寅年庚辰月己巳日，占託人求文書，得豐之復。坎宮：雷火豐；坤宮：地雷復（六合）。【本卦】【變卦】：官鬼庚戌土、父母癸酉金；父母庚申金世、兄弟癸亥水；妻財庚午火、官鬼癸丑土應；兄弟己亥水、官鬼庚辰土；官鬼己丑土應、子孫庚寅木；子孫己卯木、兄弟庚子水世。主文書卻在，其人必死也。緣申金文書，與月辰巳火六合，而動爻亥水兄弟，化入辰墓，又犯月破，況病於歲建寅，申墓於月建辰，申絕於日建巳中，故知其必死也。

The interpretation states that the document itself is still present, but the person entrusted with the task is certainly going to die. This is because the metal of the document (Shen metal) forms a Six Harmony with the day branch Si fire; however, the moving Jihai water (Brothers, i.e., the person entrusted) enters the earth's tomb, and also commits the Month Breaker. Moreover, the Jihai water is afflicted by the Tai sui (the year's ruler) Yin wood, the Shen metal is buried by the month's ruler Chen earth, and the Shen metal is also in a state of decline within the day's ruler Si fire. Being in all these adverse positions, it is certain that the person will die. This example shows that when consulting about entrusting someone to handle affairs, both the document and the person entrusted must be considered together. Although the document is present, if the person's line is in the tomb and commits the Month Breaker, the matter will still not be resolved.

庚寅年甲申月庚辰日，求占文書，得升之小過。震宮：地風升；兌宮：雷山小過（游魂）。伏神、【本卦】【變卦】：官鬼癸酉金、妻財庚戌土；父母癸亥水、官鬼庚申金；子孫庚午火、妻財癸丑土世、子孫庚午火世；官鬼辛酉金、官鬼丙申金；兄弟庚寅木、父母辛亥水、子孫丙午火；妻財辛丑土應、妻財丙辰土應。二爻亥水文書，動化午火子孫，水胎於午，是為文收化入胎爻，乃小墓也，主事難成。卻喜申月旺生，文書化胎不能為害，後於子日成就，蓋文書旺於子，且沖破午胎也。

The interpretation states: the second line, Xihai water, represents the documents and is moving, but changes to Wu fire "children"; the birthplace of water is at Wu, which is called documents transforming into the birth line. The birth line is like a small tomb, indicating that the matter will be difficult to accomplish. Fortunately, the month of Jiashen is the birth month of Xihai water, so the documents are prosperous and strong. Although the transformation to the birth line is an ominous sign, if the useful god is in its season and receives support, the ominous sign is suppressed. As long as the day arrives when the birth line is broken by a clash, the matter will naturally be completed. Indeed, the matter was completed on the day of Zi, because documents are strong on the day of Zi, and Zi clashed with Wu, the birth line. This shows that although transformation to the birth line is an ominous sign, if the useful god is in its season and receives support, the ominous sign is suppressed. Once the birth line is broken, the matter will naturally be completed.

寅年丁亥月丁酉日，日占託人求文書，得大壯安靜。坤宮：雷天大壯（六沖）。【本卦】：兄弟庚戌土；子孫庚申金；父母庚午火世；兄弟甲辰土；官鬼甲寅木；妻財甲子水應。主本月可成，出月則不成也。蓋世持午火文書，生本宮世下丑土，應上飛神，子與世下丑合，應下伏神未，與世上午合，故可成也。若出月，則十一月建子，並動應爻，沖脫文書，所以不成也。

In the year of Yin, month of Ding Hai, day of Ding You, the person consulted about entrusting someone to request a document and obtained the hexagram Da Zhuang (Hexagram 34). All six lines are quiet. This hexagram belongs to the Kun palace and is a hexagram of six clashes. Counting from the top line to the first line, the lines are: siblings Geng Xu earth, children Geng Shen metal, parents Geng Wu fire holding the world line, siblings Jia Chen earth, official ghost Jia Yin wood, and wife wealth Jia Zi water as the response line. The interpretation says: the matter can be completed within this month, but not after this month. Because the world line is Wu fire representing the document, which can generate the hidden god in the palace, the earth of Chou under the world line; the flying god on the response line is Zi water, which combines with the earth of Chou under the world line; the hidden god under the response line is Wei earth, which combines with the fire of Wu on the world line, and the two combinations result in the matter being completed. If it goes beyond this month, the month builder in November is Zi, which will combine with the response line and activate, thus conflicting and breaking the fire of Wu on the world line representing the document, so the matter will not be completed.

遊南子曰，人之謁貴，必有所求，必有所託也，故始焉恐其不得見也。見矣，恐其不如所請也，是不可以無占也。鬼谷分爻：大貴、中貴、朝貴、州郡省貴、縣貴、鄉貴。占者，但看所謁之貴，是何分爻出現，旺動生合身世者，往必得見，見必如吾所請也。如逢伏藏空死墓絕胎，而刑害克沖世身者，往必不見，見必不遂吾求也。

Younanzi said: When a person goes to visit a powerful official, he must have some request or some favor to ask. At first he fears he may not be able to meet the official, and even if he does meet him, he fears the official may refuse to comply with his request. Therefore, he cannot help but consult a divination. The "Ghost Valley Division of Lines" assigns the rank of the nobleman according to the six lines, from top to bottom: the top line represents the highest rank of nobleman, the fifth line represents a middle rank, the fourth line represents an official in the court, the third line represents a nobleman of the province, state or prefecture, the second line represents a nobleman of the county, and the first line represents a nobleman of the village or town. When divining, one only needs to see which line the nobleman one wishes to visit belongs to. If that line appears in the hexagram, is prosperous and strong, and generates and harmonizes with the hexagram body and the world line, then he will certainly meet the nobleman and his request will certainly be granted. If that line is hidden and not present, or if it falls into an empty, dead, buried, extinct, or fetal position, and if it also punishes, harms, or conflicts with the world line and the hexagram body, then he will certainly not meet the nobleman, and even if he does meet him, his request will not be granted.

外卦與應爻官爻屬陰者，在家也。屬陽者，出外也。陽變陰者，外方回也。陰變陽者，方出外也。應爻官爻出現者，在家也。伏藏者不在也。動者難見，空者不見。空而旺者，過旬乃見。出現旺動而不帶土者，不見也。陰爻化陽者，而見而遇。陽爻化陰者，再見而拒也。占六合者見，六沖者不見也。卦無身，或無鬼，或世應俱空，世應俱鬼者，不必往見也。凡世應內外官鬼，生合比和者，待應爻官爻生世合世之日可見，或應爻官爻生旺之日相見也。

A yang line changing to a yin line means the person has just returned from outside; a yin line changing to a yang line means the person is about to go out. If these two lines are activated, it is difficult to see the person; if they fall into the empty state, they cannot be seen. If they are empty but prosperous and strong, the person can be seen after ten days. If they appear and are prosperous and active but do not have the earth element, the person cannot be seen. A yin line changing to a yang line means the person can be seen immediately; a yang line changing to a yin line means the person needs to go again, and the first time will be rejected. If the hexagram is of the Six Harmonies, the person can be seen; if it is of the Six Clashes, the person cannot be seen. If the hexagram lacks the hexagram body, or lacks the official ghost line, or if both the world line and the response line fall into the empty state, or if both the world line and the response line are occupied by the official ghost line, there is no need to go in vain. Whenever the world line and the official ghost lines of the inner and outer trigrams are in mutual generation or in harmony with the five elements, one should go to meet on the day when the response line and the official ghost line generate and harmonize with the world line, or on the day when the response line and the official ghost line are strong and prosperous.
