Divination for escaping from disaster

凡占逃難，以番禽為逃難之人，到將為追捕之人，日禽為逃難之處。須要日禽生旺，我禽落泊得地為好。若我禽□他禽者，莫妨。如他禽□我禽，必被所捕。若日禽□我禽，我禽生他禽者，則主逃難之處不穩，惟生我則吉。如日間逃難，要他人是夜禽；如夜間逃難，要他人是日禽，仍要出杜門，或地戶，或華蓋方，或九地、太陰、六丁下出，則人不見我，可以免難也。

When predicting escape from danger or fleeing, the term 「番禽」represents the person fleeing, 「到将」represents the pursuer, and the day's animal represents the place of refuge. It is favorable if the day's animal is strong and flourishing, and the animal representing our side is well established. If our animal overcomes the opponent's animal, there is no problem. However, if the opponent's animal overcomes our animal, we will certainly be captured. If the day's animal overcomes our animal, and our animal in turn supports the opponent's animal, it indicates that the place of refuge is unstable. Only when the day's animal supports us is it auspicious. During the day, when fleeing, the opponent should be the night animal; at night, the opponent should be the day animal, because at this time the opponent is in a concealed position. Additionally, one should escape through the Du gate, or through the land gate, or through the Huagai direction, or from under the Nine Earth, Taiyin, or Liu Ding, so that people cannot see us and thus avoid danger.

凡捕逃，以番禽為捕逃之人，到將為逃亡之犯，日禽為逃避之處。須要日禽與他禽生我，其人自必相遇。如我禽太高，□伏他禽者，彼必畏我，深躲不出。尤須擇驚門而出，其人可獲也。

When divining about the capture of a fugitive, use 'Fan Qin' to represent the person conducting the search, 'Dao Jiang' to represent the fugitive, and the 'Daily Animal' to indicate the place where the fugitive is hiding. It is necessary that both the 'Daily Animal' and the 'Opposite Animal' should generate me, so that the person will naturally come forward. If the 'Daily Animal' is too strong and suppresses the 'Opposite Animal' too much, the fugitive will certainly fear me and hide even deeper, unwilling to come out. Especially, one should start from the 'Jing Gate' to be able to capture the person.

凡占失物，以我禽為失物之主，他禽為所失之物並所得之人，日禽為所失所藏之處。若他禽來生我禽者，其物易尋易見；如是生物，則主自回。如我禽□他禽者，急尋必見，遲則難矣。若日禽□他禽者，其物被藏深處不出。仍以鎖泊定其所藏之方，逢山在山，逢水在水，若逢湯火、刀砧，其物已被烹宰矣。

When divining about lost items, use the animal of the self direction to represent the owner, the animal of the opposite direction to represent the lost item and the person who finds it, and the day animal to represent the place where the item was lost and hidden. If the animal of the opposite direction comes to the animal of the self direction, the item is easy to find and visible; if it is a living thing, it will return on its own. If the self direction animal overcomes the opposite direction animal, it is advisable to search immediately as the item can be found; if delayed, it will be difficult to find. If the day animal overcomes the opposite direction animal, the item is hidden deep and will not be seen. Then use the 'Lock and Boat' twelve positions to determine the direction where the item is hidden: if it meets the mountain character, it is in the mountain; if it meets the water character, it is in the water; if it meets the position of soup and fire or knife and砧 board, the item has already been cooked or slaughtered by someone.

凡占天時晴雨，皆以日辰與日宿所屬五行而斷。如日辰屬水，其宿屬火，是日辰□日宿，則主陰無雨。如日辰屬火，日宿屬水，是日宿□日辰，其日主晴。如日辰生日宿，主陰晦。若日辰與日宿比和，皆火則晴，皆金作雨，皆水即雨，皆土則陰，皆木則風也。

When predicting weather conditions such as clear skies, rain, snow, or clouds, one should refer to the Day Branch and the Five Phases of the guardian star for that day. For example, if the Day Branch belongs to water and the guardian star belongs to fire, the Day Branch overcomes the guardian star, indicating cloudy weather without rain. If the Day Branch belongs to fire and the guardian star belongs to water, the guardian star overcomes the Day Branch, indicating clear weather. If the Day Branch generates the guardian star, it indicates gloomy and obscured weather. If the Day Branch and the guardian star share the same Five Phases, then if they are both fire, the weather is clear; if both metal, it rains; if both water, it rains immediately; if both earth, the weather is cloudy; if both wood, there is wind.

凡軍中聞報聲息，即以所聞、所報之時占之。如到彼□我弱，彼又得地，旺而生□我者，又以其時起遁。如遁合「太白入熒惑」者，其賊必來。如番我禽旺而得地，又能吞啖擒制他禽，而又遁合「熒入太白格」者，其賊必自恐懼而逃遁矣。若時直伏斷、截路空亡，更彼我之禽比和，或與同類，或他禽旺而低弱者，則主驚虛，其賊□是虛報者也。

Whenever a military unit receives news from a scout, they should cast a divination using the hour when the news was heard and reported. If the enemy's bird is strong and the allied bird is weak, and the enemy is well-positioned with strong energy that turns to attack us, then cast the Dun Jia chart for that hour. If the Dun Jia chart forms the pattern of 'Tai Bai entering Ying Huo', the enemy troops will certainly come. Conversely, if the allied bird is strong and well-positioned, and can devour and control the enemy's bird, and the Dun Jia chart forms the pattern of 'Ying entering Tai Bai', the enemy troops will certainly be frightened and flee on their own. If the hour coincides with a hidden break, a cut-off path, or an empty void, and the enemy and allied birds are like and harmonious, or belong to the same category, or the enemy's bird is strong but its position is weak, then it will be a false alarm, and this enemy situation is definitely a false report.
