Six Yi Rat Wealth Pattern
Charting guides: BaZi Chart Calculator
Zhang Nan said: The Six Yi Rat Nobleman pattern only takes Yi Hai and Yi Wei days paired with Bing Zi hour. The method is that Zi (the rat) moves the Si (the snake), and Si then combines with Shen (the monkey) to produce Geng metal, which is the official star of Yi wood. If the column already contains Geng or Xin metal, Yi wood is being restrained, and this pattern cannot be used. As for Yi Chou, Yi You, and Yi Si days, the official star is already in the day branch, so the pattern is already filled and not used. If there is a proper pattern, it is only considered as the proper pattern; if there is no proper pattern, then this pattern is considered. In reality, it is almost illogical. The "Xiji篇" says: When Yin wood meets Zi hour alone, it is the Six Yi Rat Nobleman pattern. "Yin wood" refers to Yi wood; "meeting Zi hour alone" means only using the rat and not the monkey, because "nobleman" refers to Tianyi Nobleman, and Yi wood uses Zi and Shen as Tianyi Nobleman. If the Shen hour is used, the official star is clearly present, so it cannot be used.
Old commentaries say: This pattern is most afraid of the character Wu coming to clash with Zi. If there are many Zi characters in the column when Bingzi time is present, it is excellent, as it signifies many rats gathering to achieve nobility. If the four pillars contain the characters Geng, Xin, Shen, You, or Chou, especially Geng and Xin metal, they should be reduced in score. The same applies to the heavenly stem and earthly branch of the year. If the month ruler already has a official star, this pattern is not used. It must be that the four pillars originally have no official star before it can be used.
The ancient song praises the "mouse prosperity" pattern on the second day of the heavenly stem: "When the heavenly stem is Yin Wood and the earthly branch is Bingzi, and the destiny is Yisi, it is truly remarkable. If there is no clash and no official or killer element to disrupt, it is a good omen, and the young man will be able to serve the emperor in court." It also says: "When Yin Wood is naturally paired with Bingzi, and there is no official clash or harm, this is the case. It will surely lead to a sudden success, achieving the highest rank, and the name will spread throughout the four seas, shaking the world and the ages."
Another poem on the Six Yi Rat's Wealth pattern says: "Yin wood meets Yang and needs many Zi, known as the Rat's Wealth, lofty and majestic. The column fears the Southern Fire position, leading to hardship and suffering, which is unbearable." When Yi wood is paired with Yang, many Zi are needed to bring about high prestige; however, fear the Southern Fire position which conflicts, leading to unavoidable hardship and suffering. The poem "Zhègū Tiān" says: "Six Yi meets Bingzi in the hour, official position high, fortune prosperous and flourishing. The character Wu exposed is not valuable, defeating the Useful God brings misfortune. Guard against You and Chou, avoid Geng and Xin, the injurious official combines with the four pillars for prosperity. If there is no official or killer in the column, honor and fame will be evident, with a path to the jade hall and golden steps."
Supplementary explanation: This pattern should avoid official stars and harmful influences. The earthy branch Chou is the repository of official stars, so it should also be avoided. As for those who cite the saying 'Chou hinders Zi', interpreting the avoidance of Chou as fear of it hindering Zi, that is incorrect. The Zi here refers to the Tianyi Nobleman on the sixth day of the ethereal stems, which prefers to combine rather than clash. It is different from the Zi in the pattern of remote combination and hidden clash, where the Zi is meant to be combined with or clashed against. Therefore, Chou does not constitute an obstruction to it.
Six Yin Facing the Sun Pattern
Zhang Nan said: The Six Yin Facing the Sun pattern requires six days of Xin (辛) and must have no official or killer stars in the four pillars. For Xin metal, Bing fire is the official star. On a Xin day, the time should be Wuzi (戊子), using the Zi (子) to trigger the Si (巳), and the Bing fire in Si is the official star. Xinwei (辛未) day is not suitable, because the Ding fire in Wei (未) is a killer star for Xin metal, and its presence breaks the pattern. Xinmao (辛卯) day is also not suitable, because Mao (卯) and Zi (子) are in conflict, and if Zi is broken, it cannot combine with Si. Additionally, it is feared that the pillar contains Si (巳), which would make it solid, or Wu (午) which would clash with Zi, causing Zi to be disturbed and unable to trigger Si. This pattern only favors wealth, and fears the official or killer stars' influence which would break the pattern. If there is another standard pattern available, it is better to use that one, because this method is not based on natural principles.
An old song says: "When Xinchou meets Wuzi, it is called the rising sun; good fortune favors the west and the official position flourishes. If Bing and Ding do not appear, and if Wu does not clash with Zi, one will wear golden robes and enter the court." Additional explanation: The phrase "Bing and Ding do not appear" means that Bing and Ding should not fully manifest the official star, and Wu should not clash with Zi. According to the classic texts, these interpretations are indeed correct. However, outside the classic texts, there is a saying that "the character Chou should not appear," which is incorrect. Chou is actually the metal warehouse, the place where Xinhui is strong, and it is exactly what the rising sun pattern favors. Looking at the ancient examples: The Western King's Grand Minister was born on Xinchou day and Wuzi hour, achieving the highest level of wealth and honor. This shows that Chou does not hinder Zi.
The difference lies in the fact that the Zi Yao Si pattern relies on Zi and Si combining across positions, so it fears Chou blocking Zi and preventing the distant combination. The Fei Tian Lu Ma pattern depends on Zi secretly conflicting, so it fears Chou blocking Zi and preventing the conflict. However, in the Chao Yang pattern, the Zi is a real character, neither relying on combination nor conflict. So why fear Chou then?
The "Ji Shan篇" says: If the Yin metal forms the "Chao Yang" pattern, it should avoid the presence of Bing and Ding and the position of Li. Additional explanation: Here, "Li position" refers to the southern position of Si and Wu, which corresponds to Bing and Ding and mutually reflect each other. The "Ge Jie" text interprets "Li position" as including Si, Wu, and Wei, including Wei, which is incorrect. Wei is originally the native land of wealth star and the flourishing place of official star. Therefore, the "Ji Shan篇" has another statement: if the "Chao Yang" pattern is born in the season month, it can be called official star. Looking at the ancient birth charts: the Princess Wang has Ji Wei, Xin Wei, Xin Wei, and Wu Zi. There are three Weis in the column, yet she is esteemed as a princess and noble, showing that Wei is not necessarily to be avoided.
The Secret Manual says: A person born on the day of Xinhai at the first hour (Zi) should avoid traveling on fire land, and it is auspicious to go towards the Northwest, but if going towards the Southeast, it will bring worries and misfortune. Additional explanation: The "North" character in the phrase "coming from the Northwest" in the Grasp the Meaning text is likely a mistake. In fact, the term "Northwest" refers to the great movement arriving at Xinhai. Xinhai consists of Xinh (which belongs to the West) and Hai (which belongs to the North), hence it is called Northwest. Moreover, the Nayin sound element of Xinhai belongs to metal, and the Rising Sun pattern favors traveling to places where the official (earthly branch) is strong and metal is prosperous. This is why "going towards the Northwest is auspicious."
The "Grasping the Essentials" text doubts the character "North" is incorrect, being stuck to the conventional saying that "Northern water regions are greatly inauspicious," not understanding that the "Northwest" mentioned in the "Secrets" refers to the Nayin sound element. Similarly, "Southeast movement brings worry and misfortune" refers to the great movement reaching Yisi: Yi belongs to the East, Si belongs to the South, hence called Southeast; the Nayin sound element of Yisi belongs to fire, and the Bright Sun Pattern is most averse to the fire element, which is why it is said "Southeast movement brings worry and misfortune." Otherwise, the East is originally the land of wealth for Xin metal, so why would it be said to bring worry and misfortune?
An old song says: "On a Xin day, encountering Wuzi alone is favorable; the noble pattern of six yin prefers the sun to rise. For Bing and Ding, Si and Wu should not be filled in; when age and luck take turns, they should be treated the same." Additional explanation: Many star scholars mistakenly interpret "Xin day alone" as the day stem being suitable for being single and not seeing another Xin character. This is wrong. It means that only one Wuzi should be seen, not another Si. Si is the position where the first yang begins; seeing another Si would no longer be "alone." Therefore, it is said that where the yin energy is exhausted, the first yang returns. This point is not mentioned in the "Pattern Explanation," so it is added here.
In ancient times, Zhang Zhiyuan's birth chart was Wuchen, Xinyou, Xinyou, Wuzi. The birth chart of the ancient Western General was Wuchen, Xinyou, Xinchou, Wuzi. Looking at these two noble patterns, there are not just one instance of the character Xin in the columns, which shows that interpreting "single" as meaning only one Xin is incorrect. The poem "Zhe Gu Tian" says: "At Wuzi time, six days of Xin, the rising sun meets the propitious fire to form the official star. If庚and辛 meet, they can be considered auspicious, and one can receive purple robes and golden seals from the holy emperor. If there are寅and卯, it is considered noble, but if there are丙and丁, it is considered poor. If one reaches the northern destiny, it will surely harm the body. If the middle and harmony are pure, one will become an official and noble, surely becoming a minister of the three platforms and eight positions."
Crime of mutual destruction in the trigrams
Zhang Nan said: The "刑合格" is taken on the days of Guihai, Guimao, and Guiyou, paired with the time of Jiayin. Since the original four pillars do not have any official or killer stars, this is the way to use it. The time of Jiayin is chosen because the寅 can刑 the巳, bringing out theWu Earth in the巳 to act as the official star. TheWu Earth also combines with the癸, hence it is called "刑合格". If the day is Gui巳, the day branch already has theWu Earth, thus breaking the pattern. If the day is Guiwei or Guichou, the day branch contains the hiddenJi Earth, which is the seven killer, also breaking the pattern. Moreover, it is also feared that the pillar contains the巳, which would fill it up and break the pattern. If there is the申 in the pillar, the申 will conflict with the寅, making the寅 unable to刑 the巳. All these principles are ultimately man-made arrangements.
The *Xiji Section* says: For six days of癸, if the time pillar meets the寅 position, the year and month pillars should avoid seeing戊 and己. The old commentary explains: This refers to the harmony of刑 and合格. Taking six癸 days as the main, using戊 earth as the official star, it is favorable to meetJiayin time, relying on寅 to刑 out the戊 earth in巳. Thus, the癸 day obtains the official star. If it meetsGengyin time, the刑 cannot be formed, so onlyJiayin time is suitable. The good and bad fortune of the running years and months are the same as the Flying Heavenly禄 and Horse pattern. If the four pillars contain戊 or己, filling the official star, or contain庚 to harm the甲 wood in the time pillar, the刑 structure is ruined. It is disliked to see申, and if seen, it reduces the score. The same applies to the heavenly stem and earthly branch of the year and the big years.
An old song says: "A person born on a癸 day, with the time pillar being甲寅, is most disliked if the four pillars contain official stars. If there is no戊,己,庚, or申, then in adulthood one can achieve glory and reach the imperial capital." Additional explanation: A person born on a癸 day refers to being born on one of the six days when癸 is the heavenly stem. The time pillar beingJiayin means the time pillar has the branch寅. Only in this way is the pattern considered valid. The phrase "most disliked if the four pillars contain official stars" refers to the need for寅 to secretly刑巳中的Wu Earth to serve as the official star for癸 day. The concern is that if the pillar already contains戊 or巳, it would fill in and negate this effect. The term "official star" also includes seven杀. Therefore, the next sentence says: as long as there is noWu Earth official star, noJi Earth seven杀, no巳 to fill it in, noGeng Metal to overcome甲, and no申 to冲寅, then this pattern is pure, and thus one can achieve success early in life and be appointed to official positions.
The second song says:癸 water is paired with the寅 hour, the structure is originally pure and clear, but worries about庚 metal coming to harm甲 wood and causing injury, thus failing to form a complete structure; as long as the big destiny does not enter the snake's巳 position to fill the structure, it can maintain purity and high moral standing, gaining fame and profit. The third song says: when the癸 water day master meets theJiayin hour, it is truly a structure of mutual restraint and harmony; if there are no戊 earth,己 earth,庚 metal, or申 branch in the pillar to disrupt, it will be a person of great wealth and honor, with a golden belt and a beautiful jade pendant. The fourth song says: when the癸 water day master meets the寅 hour and forms a structure of mutual restraint and harmony, entering this structure will lead to prominence; however, officials and seven killers must not be encountered, for the appearance of庚,申, or巳 will bring disaster.
"The Zhègū Tiān" says: "Only wish for a day of Gui and an hour of Jia Yin, punishment and clash can reveal the official star and noble status. If the Yin and Shen clash, there will be many disasters. If there is Geng metal, it will bring sorrow. When meeting Wu or Ji, and encountering punishment and clash, one's fame and fortune will certainly be absent. If the year, month, day, and hour have no punishment or harm, then one will surely achieve honor and glory on horseback." Additional explanation: Old annotations only mentioned that the Yin secretly punishes the Si in the earth, which is the official star of the day of Gui, fearing Geng to attack the Jia wood in the Yin, and fearing Shen to clash with Yin, thus preventing the official star from being activated; they never mentioned fearing the Hai or Wu and Xu characters to hinder. Some people made up the idea that Hai and Wu and Xu are hindrances, which is wrong. Looking at the birth chart of Pan Jieshi from ancient times: Yi Wei, Gui Wei, Gui Hai, Jia Yin, we can see that Hai does not hinder Yin. Another example is the birth chart of Chen Sirang from ancient times: Jia Xu, Jia Xu, Gui You, Jia Yin, showing that Wu and Xu cannot hinder Yin. It is different from the pattern of forbidden hindrances such as distant Si and flying heavenly禄 and 马."
Combined Wealth and Favor Pattern
Zhang Nan said: The Hei Lu pattern uses six Wu days paired with Gengshen hour. The original four pillars must not have any official stars or minister stars. The method is to use the Geng metal in the hour stem to combine with Yi wood, and Yi wood becomes the official star of Wu earth. One should be cautious of the presence of Jia wood, which may restrain Wu earth and weaken the day stem. Also, one should be cautious of Bing fire, which may weaken Geng metal, making it impossible for Geng to combine with Yi. Also, one should be cautious of the presence of Yin, which may clash with Shen, and also of Mao, which may bring the official star into the open. The book says that when Gengshen hour meets Wu day, it is called the pattern of the food god in the flourishing land. However, if the year or month pillars contain Jia, Bing, Mao, or Yin, it becomes a case of meeting without actually meeting. The reason is that this pattern should actually be viewed as the pattern of the food god in the hour. If the year and month pillars do not contain any official or killing stars, this pattern is reasonable, as long as Geng and Shen are not harmed or destroyed, and the result will be effective.
There is another pattern called the Arching Wealth Pattern, which only takes the day stem Jia and the time stem Jiayi. Why is this considered wealthy? Because the Jia wood takes Xin metal as its official. Between Zi and Yin there is a Chou, which contains Xin metal. This official is thus enclosed between them. The beauty of this pattern lies in the fact that Zi and Yin are positioned one before and one after, with Chou in between, making it impossible for Chou to escape. Additionally, the day stem and the time stem are both Jia, enclosing the Xin metal in Chou. This pattern is vulnerable to the presence of Geng, which would break the Jia and prevent the enclosure; it is also vulnerable to the presence of Shen, which would clash with Yin and again prevent the enclosure.
The branch Chou is also afraid of the character Wu coming to break the Zi, for once Zi is broken, it cannot support Chou; additionally, the characters Geng, Xin, Shen, You, Ji, and Chou are also feared as they break the pattern. This pattern is quite accurate, but it is always necessary for the day master to be balanced and moderate; if it is too strong or too weak, it is not taken. In the end, this pattern values the Xin metal hidden in Chou, and also takes into account the meaning of the day master Ji seeing Chou, which is considered Tianyi Nobleman.
The "Gejie" says: This pattern is most favorable when born in autumn and winter. The "Xiji" says: When a person is born at the Gengshen hour and on a Wu day, it is called the food god in the旺 direction; if the year or month is tainted by Jia, Bing, Mao, or Yin, it is considered as meeting but not truly meeting. Additional explanation: This passage is traditionally referred to as the Zhuangwang Shishen pattern, and some call it the Heshen pattern. Both interpretations are reasonable. Because the Hulü pattern originally includes both Wu day Gengshen hour and Gui day Gengshen hour, both are based on the food god combining with the official star, and their likes and dislikes are fundamentally the same.
Old writings say: This pattern involves people born on six days of Wu paired with the Gengshen hour. It uses Geng to virtually combine with the Bing wood in Mao, taking it as the official star and noble energy. If there is Bing wood in the four pillars, it becomes the seven killer; if there is Jia wood, it becomes theOwl Spirit. If there is Mao, it fills the official star. If there is Yin to clash with Shen or Si to punish Shen, the noble energy is ruined, which is called meeting but not meeting. If someone is born in the autumn or winter months, the day master and the wealth star are both strong, and they do not encounter the official killer, punishment, clash, destruction, orOwl Spirit, then they will achieve great wealth and status, so it is called pure and indicates great fortune. Once the official star is filled, the fortune will be reduced by half.
An old song says: "During the Gengshen hour on a Wu day, the heavenly stem and earthly branch are harmonious, most favored in autumn and winter with abundant blessings. When Bing and Jia with Mao and Yin come to overcome and break it, if it meets but does not meet, the person will be lonely and poor." It also says about Gui days: taking the six Gui days as the main focus, it is favorable to meet the Gengshen hour. The Shen hour combines with the Si branch to bring out the Wu earth, thus the Gui day obtains the official star. If the four pillars contain Xu or Si, which harm the Shen hour, or if Bing harms Gengshen, the score should be reduced. The same applies to the heavenly stem and earthly branch of the year and the big destiny. It also says that this pattern is only used when the original four pillars do not have the official star.
The four examples of the He Lu Ge: Shi Chunfang's birth chart is Renwu, Jiyou, Wuwu, Gengshen; Zheng Zhifu's birth chart is Renshen, Xinhai, Wuyin, Gengshen; Wu ZhiXian's birth chart is Bingshen, Gengzi, Wushen, Gengshen. These three charts all have the day of Wu and the time of Gengshen. The fourth chart, belonging to the same official, is Guiyou, Yichou, Guichou, Gengshen, which is a case of the day of Gui and the time of Gengshen.
Curved and Straight Kindness and Longevity Pattern
Zhang Nan said: The "Qu Zhi Ren Shou" pattern is like a day master of Jia wood with the three earthly branches Yin, Mao, and Chen all present. This gives the person a strong reception of the benevolent and long-lived energy from the East, hence the name "Ren Shou." This pattern often proves accurate. It is most afraid of characters like Geng Shen and Xin You that break the delicate Eastern energy. Even if the person does not die young, their noble status will not be pure. The cases I have seen of this pattern are not afraid of having too many Yin, Mao, and Chen characters, nor do they fear壬癸 water to nourish the wood. They only fear the presence of Shen or You, or Geng or Xin, which break the pattern. In summary, the three characters Yin, Mao, and Chen must all be present to form this pattern. If even one of Shen or You appears, it will not be auspicious.
The "Gejie" says: This pattern mainly involves Jia and Yi wood, and the earthly branches must include Yin, Mao, and Chen completely, or Hai, Mao, and Wei completely; there must be no trace of Geng or Xin metal at all; the favorable luck is from the east and north, while the worst luck is from the west, especially when there is punishment and clash. Li Bu Bing's birth chart is Jiayin, Dingmao, Yiwei, and Bingzi. The poem says: "Jia and Yi born with Yin, Mao, and Chen, also known as benevolence and longevity, both worthy of evaluation. If Hai, Mao, and Wei are complete, it is feared to meet the White Emperor; if there is the Kan position, the person will surely achieve honor." The White Emperor refers to western metal, and the Kan position refers to northern water: forming a wood circle while fearing western metal, once northern water comes to nourish wood, the person will surely achieve honor and distinction.
The *Biyuan Fu* says: On days ruled by Jia and Yi, if the Heavenly Stems meet the Triple Harmony of Hai, Mao, and Wei, wealth and honor are certain; it also says that the wood energy flows through Yin, Mao, and Chen, and success in officialdom comes naturally. The birth chart is: the year pillar is Renyin, the month pillar is Guimao, the day pillar is Jiazi, and the hour pillar is Wuchen. This is the destiny of Lingchuan Jiqiao Qiutou Pu Yi. The wood energy is complete and like kind gather together. Zhang Nan interpreted: Jia wood is born in a place where Yin, Mao, and Chen are all present; the wood is complete and like kind gather together, which is a good sign; the hour pillar Chen is a water reservoir and also a treasure store, which can be relied upon; if one goes through the southern fire fortune to generate wealth, he will become an extraordinary person.
Jia wood is born in the Mao month, with pure wood energy. The earthly branches Yin, Mao, and Chen fully capture the eastern vitality, creating a refined and elegant atmosphere. It is also favorable that the time stem has Wu earth, the wealth star, appearing clearly, and the day stem is strong enough to bear the burden. Therefore, the wealth star in the hour is used as the key element. This person is very happy to give and help the lonely and poor. The pattern is indeed established. Another person with the same year and month but with the day stem as Jiashen ends up poor and humble, because the additional Shen metal breaks the refined and elegant energy of the east. Those who do not understand mistakenly consider Shen metal as a good element, not realizing the principle of straight and flexible wood. That person died when he entered the Shen cycle, as Shen breaks the wood, and the reason is clear.
Agricultural and Cultivation Pattern
Zhang Nan said: The Jia Si pattern takes the day stem of Wu or Ji earth. The earthly branches should have many instances of Chen, Xu, Chou, or Wei, or many instances of Si, Wu, and Wei. As long as the four pillars do not contain officials or killers, this pattern can be used. However, it is usually for those born in the months of Chou, Chen, or Xu. The four pillars should be pure earth without wood to overcome it, before this pattern is considered. Favorable luck comes from southern fire and earth, or western metal, which can control wood. This often leads to wealth and honor. Once the person enters a wood luck that overcomes and destroys the Jia Si pattern, it will certainly lead to death. The subtle details are explained later in "Verification of Jia Si Patterns." Those born on Wu day with earth too strong in Wei month do not fit this pattern. Only those born in Chen, Xu, or Chou months, when the earth is relatively weak, are considered to fit this pattern.
The "Gejie" says: This pattern has the day master as Wu or Ji earth, and the earthly branches must include Chen, Xu, Chou, and Wei. There should be no wood to restrain it, and there must be water as the useful god, then the pattern is formed. Favorable directions are west and south, while east and north are to be avoided. Zhang Zhenren's birth chart is Wu Xu, Ji Wei, Wu Chen, and Gui Chou. The poem says: "Wu and Ji are born in the four seasons, Chen, Xu, Chou, and Wei must all be present. Favoring the wealth land and disliking officials and killers, when the direction is east, there will certainly be misfortune." Another view holds that both the eastern officials and killers and the northern wealth are to be avoided, so the word "dislike" is used; east and north are especially feared for punishments and clashes. The "Biyuan Fu" says: When the day master is Wu or Ji earth and the four seasonal branches are complete, the person will be prosperous and prominent among peers.
The birth chart is: the year pillar is Renwu, the month pillar is Guichou, the day pillar is Jichou, and the hour pillar is Wuchen. This is the prosperous fate of two elders from Fucheng, Zhang Hua, with complete earth energy forming the Jia Se pattern. Zhang Nan explained: Jichou earth is born in the month of Chou, with abundant earth energy; cold earth can still achieve the success of Jia Se; there is only a slight weakness of wood in between, causing a problem; when the big destiny reaches the metal element, metal can overcome wood, indicating abundant wealth sources.
The person with Ji (己) earth in the heavenly stem was born in the twelfth lunar month, and the day branch is also occupied by Chou (丑) earth. The four pillars consist entirely of earth, and the earth energy is cold. This can be viewed as a complete earth of the farming and rearing type. However, the hour branch contains Chen (辰), which slightly contains water energy, secretly weakening the earth quality. Is this not a kind of illness? In early years, when the person traveled through the eastern path of Jiayin (甲寅) and Yimao (乙卯), the hidden wood in Chen was brought out to overcome the farming and rearing earth, which was very unfavorable. When the person reached the paths of Bingchen (丙辰), Dingsi (丁巳), Wuwu (戊午), and Jiwei (己未), the cold earth received fire to generate and support it, which was exactly what was desired. As a result, the person accumulated wealth amounting to tens of thousands of strings of cash.
Then the person goes through Geng Shen, Xin You, and Ren Xu, and the metal energy completely overcomes the sick wood spirit in the辰 (Chen) earth, leading to great wealth surpassing the entire region. Until the person enters the Hai (Water) destiny cycle, when Hai, Mao, and Wei form a wood trinity, the person dies at an old age with all five blessings. This is natural. Another person has the birth time of Ren Wu, Gui Chou, Ji Chou, and Ji Si, differing only in the hour pillar. However, because Si and Chou form a metal trinity, it is considered as a Wounding Official pattern rather than a Farming and Cultivation pattern. This person is poor and suffers from deafness, becoming only an ordinary doctor, due to the Wounding Official pattern and the weak wealth destiny cycle.
Fire Ascending Pattern
Zhang Nan said: The "Inflaming Ascendancy" pattern occurs when the day master is a Bing or Ding fire born in the寅 or卯 month, and the earthly branches Yin, Wu, and Xu are all present, which is called "fire with root but not overly dry." It fears water to break the pattern, and also fears excessive fire, because if the fire becomes too strong, it is no longer "virtual." It also fears metal and water to break the fire and wood. This pattern only has slight effect. The "Pattern Explanation" says: When Bing and Ding days meet the presence of Yin, Wu, and Xu, or Si, Wu, and Wei, it is called "Inflaming Ascendancy." It fears water and metal, prefers the Eastern Wood direction, and fears being冲. It also requires the day master to be strong, and the favor or dislike of the heavenly stem and earthly branch of the year and big destiny should be the same.
Zhang Taibao's birth chart is Yiwei, Xinsi, Bingwu, Jiawu. The poem says: "In the summer heat, the fire burns fiercely high, without water one knows it is a bold and prominent figure. When it reaches the wood element, the fire becomes refined and becomes a valuable talent, achieving success and winning glory." In summer, the fire is very strong, and because there is no water to counteract it, its boldness is evident; when it reaches the wood element, the fire has something to rely on and becomes refined, achieving success and winning glory. The "Biyuan Fu" says that for a day master of Bing and Ding, encountering the triple harmony of Yin, Wu, and Xu brings prosperity and honor; it also says that those whose fire energy occupies the area of Si, Wu, and Wei are destined for success and prominence.
Moistening and Descending Pattern
The "Gejie" says: The "Runxia" pattern is for days ruled by Jia or Yi water, with the earthly branches Shen, Zi, and Chen all present, or Hai, Zi, and Chou all present; it is unfavorable to travel through the branches of Chen, Xu, Chou, and Wei, which are earth elements, and favorable to the western metal direction. It is not suitable for the southeast wood and fire directions, and it fears clashes and controls. The preferences and aversions of the heavenly stem and the big year are the same. The poem says: "The days of Ren and Gui water prefer winter, and when Shen and Chen are joined, success is achieved. Or when all are in Hai, Zi, and Chou, one can easily rise to fame." Wan Zongren's birth chart is Gengzi, Gengchen, Renshen, and Xinhai. The "Biyuan Fu" says: For days ruled by Ren and Gui water with Shen, Zi, and Chen present, one has great fortune and wealth; it also says that when the water element returns to its source in Hai, Zi, and Chou, one is a prosperous and successful person.
From-Revolution Pattern
The *Gejie* says: The From-Revolution pattern is for days ruled by Geng or Xin metal, with the earthly branches Si, You, and Chou all present, or Shen, You, and Xu all present; it dislikes the Southern Fire cycle, and if it enters the Geng or Xin metal strong cycle, it is auspicious. A poem says: "Metal in From-Revolution is honored by the Nobleman, its creation and transformation are pure and lofty, bringing deep blessings and titles. If fire appears in the four pillars and mixes with the metal, one can only labor in vain in the fields of monks, Taoists, and artisans." When metal forms the From-Revolution pattern, it is respected by the Nobleman, the pattern is pure and lofty, and blessings and titles are deep; but once fire appears in the four pillars and interferes with the metal, one can only work in vain in the fields of monks, Taoists, and artisans. The *Biyuan Fu* says: For days ruled by Geng or Xin metal with Si, You, and Chou forming a complete pattern, one attains high rank and power; it also says that when the metal occupies the entire Shen, You, and Xu cycle, one attains wealth and honor without loss.
Zhang Nan said: The From-Revolution pattern is when the day master is庚 or 辛 metal and sees 申, 酉, 戌 all present, or 巳, 酉, 丑 all present. Such a destiny usually has scattered and mixed fortune, and naturally cannot be considered pure and commendable. The reasoning is similar to the Moistening-Down pattern of 壬 and 癸. I have seen many such patterns, but have never encountered any that truly lead to wealth and honor. Therefore, one should look for other principles. The ones that actually bring wealth and honor are only the Curved-Strait and Cultivated-Field patterns. The Blazing-Up pattern, which has all of 巳, 午, 未, also has good cases. Therefore, I definitely confirm the correct ones and refute the absurd ones.
Year and Hour Official Star Pattern
Zhang Nan said: The so-called official star in the year or hour position refers to an official star that is floating and rootless in the chart, which is used as the useful god. Such a configuration often leads to high status, and it is favorable to have the wealth star to generate it. An official star located in the year stem or day branch can also be used. However, the true official star in the month position is not usable in reality. The reason is explained in the later section "Human Fate Verified · Official Star in Hour Position." If the original chart's official star is floating, it is especially afraid of the official killer to destroy it. There is also the configuration of the wealth repository in the hour position, for example, a person with Jia or Yi day stem seeing Xu hour; for a person with Ji day stem, this configuration can also be considered as the wealth and official star in the hour position, using the floating wealth. When the wealth is strong, the person will be wealthy and noble.
The "Zuanyao" song says: "The heavenly stem of the year is the official star, and it is favorable to meet the wealth and official star in the palace of the self. If there is no seven killer, one will hold an official position, and wealth and honor will surpass Shi Chong." The birth chart is: the year pillar is Xinyou, the month pillar is Dingyou, the day pillar is Guimao, and the hour pillar is Renxu. This is a noble destiny of a high-ranking official in Lincun, belonging to the pattern of wealth repository and official star on the hour pillar. Zhang Nan said:癸 water is born in the酉 month, and itself has no achievement; all the elegance and wealth and official star are favorable and fall on the hour pillar; that slight official star on the hour pillar is really useful; this person must surely rise to prominence smoothly.
The癸 water is born in the酉 month, and酉 gold is a偏印, which originally cannot be used as the useful god. Fortunately, the hour branch 戌 is the warehouse for wealth and official positions. In the酉 month, fire and earth are extremely weak, and it is fortunate that the wealth and official positions are light and can be treated. Moreover, the day branch卯 contains 乙 wood, which secretly damages the戊 earth official star in 戌, making the illness more severe and obvious. A severe illness leads to great fame and high status. Furthermore, the year branch has酉 gold, which can overcome the卯 wood, the disease god. The book says: "If the illness is removed in the pattern, wealth and official positions will follow." Therefore, when the big movement reachesGuisi, theSi-You-Chou (Metal triad) form a metal group, which breaks the 乙 wood disease god in卯, thus leading to successive success in the imperial examination, achieving the position of censor and enjoying high authority, which is natural. When the movement enters寅卯, the wood becomes strong and overcomes this weak official position, so he retires from official life. This can be considered as a subtle understanding.
In general, the official star in the month pillar is not useful, but the official star in the hour pillar, though weak, can be useful. The birth chart is: the year pillar is Yi Si, the month pillar is Yi You, the day pillar is Geng Wu, and the hour pillar is Ding Hai. This is a wealthy fate of Yang Hong Liu, a famous person from the Da Yuan period. The metal and fire forces are balanced, and the pattern is to take the official star in the hour pillar. Zhang Nan said: the Geng metal is strong, and the Ding fire official star is revealed in the hour pillar. However, the metal is slightly weak, while the wood and fire are very strong. When the person walks the paths of Xinh巳 and Geng Chen, which are metal paths, the metal energy is supplemented, and the person becomes wealthy and famous in the same year.
Geng metal is born in the酉 month, though the day's main element is very strong. Metal naturally prefers to be strong, but it is not good for fire to be too strong and melt its essence. Fortunately, the year's branch巳 and the month's branch酉 form a metal trinity, making metal even more powerful. However, there are three instances of fire and three of wood in the column, which makes the wood and fire too strong, and the metal energy is actually insufficient. Therefore, when the fortune moves into the Xinsi or Gengchen or Wujǐ (earthly branch) years, which support metal and earth, wealth arises. Another person only changed the year's branch to Hai, adding another Hai, which made metal even weaker and wood and fire more abundant, leading to a life of poverty. This is the fate of my fellow townsman Wang Tu.
The birth chart is: the year pillar is Dingchou, the month pillar is Jiyou, the day pillar is Gengshen, and the hour pillar is Xinsi. This is a noble destiny, belonging to the year's empty official position pattern. Zhang Nan interpreted that stubborn metal meets fire for forging, so nobility is certain; since there is little fire and much metal, the combination is most suitable; as the official star is weak, the most suitable direction is a place where the official star is strong; therefore, he can rise to success smoothly in his youth.
Geng metal is born in the You month, where both metal and water energies are strong. Although there is hidden Bing fire seven killer in the Si branch of the hour, it is overcome by the Ren water in the Shen branch of the day. Only the Ding fire in the year stem remains, which is a useful official position. Since the official is weak, it is most suitable to go through a prosperous official star fortune to supplement it, hence achieving high status. Conversely, if the metal itself is weak, even traveling through the southern fire fortune will not lead to prestige—this principle has already been explained earlier.
