Chapter 17: Seeking Profit by Trusting the Foundation

（以妻財為主，世應內外為憑。）凡將資本借親鄰，房室用車賃與人。凡放債求息並物件與人取利者，或將房船車轎賃與親朋同斷。卦有子孫逢善客，爻逢官鬼遇強賓，妻財最喜臨生旺，兄弟單憂克世身。爻有子孫妻財，或旺相或生世合世克世者，有財有利。若遇官鬼兄弟發動，沖世克世者，多耗多非，若動亦非吉象，切宜忌之。

If the hexagram contains the "Children" line, it indicates a trustworthy customer; if the "Official Ghost" line appears, it suggests a demanding guest. The "Wealth" line is most favorable when it is in a prosperous and strong position, but it is feared when the "Siblings" line comes to harm the "World Line" and the hexagram body. If the lines contain "Children" or "Wealth" and they are strong, or if they generate, harmonize with, or harm the "World Line," there will be profit and benefit. However, if the "Official Ghost" or "Siblings" lines become active and conflict with or harm the "World Line," there will be many expenses and disputes. These two lines being active are not auspicious and should be avoided.

世空我必心多變，應陷他須意不真，應克世爻遭虎噬，外傷內卦被鯨吞。世空則我不情原，應空則他必灰心。世應兩空，彼此皆休。若應克世爻，他必狠心欺賴。外傷內卦，亦彼不良，必致忘恩負義。

The World Line is empty, indicating my own thoughts are fickle; the Response Line is empty, showing the other party's intentions are not sincere. If the Response Line overcomes the World Line, it is like being devoured by a fierce tiger. If the Outer Trigram harms the Inner Trigram, it is like being swallowed by a huge whale. The World Line being empty means I am not willing; the Response Line being empty means he has already lost heart. If both the World and Response Lines are empty, both parties will give up. If the Response Line overcomes the World Line, the other party will certainly be ruthless and refuse to pay. If the Outer Trigram harms the Inner Trigram, it also shows the other party has bad intentions and will surely forget gratitude and be untrustworthy.

上下彼我無相剋，異姓相交勝嫡親，應生身世外生內，借主常思了債根，貞悔比和世生應，也主和諧無異心。內外比和，世應相合，乃兩我和順，同胞無異。若應生世、外生內，是信義不忘，利資不少。世生應、內生外，或比和，亦主義中取利，兩意綢繆永久耳。六合百年顏帶悅，六沖旬日面生嗔，前合後沖交不久，今人卻要細沉吟。六合之卦，魚水相投。六沖之卦，冰炭不投。前合後沖，聚而不久兩分離。前沖後合，分而再合交還可。

If the world line generates the response line, and the inner trigram generates the outer trigram, or if they are harmonious with each other, it indicates gaining profit through sentiment, with a lasting and entangled relationship. When the hexagram indicates six harmony, the relationship will be pleasant for a hundred years. When the hexagram indicates six clashes, they will turn against each other within ten days. Friendships that first harmonize but then clash do not last long; people should be careful in such cases. A hexagram indicating six harmony is like fish in water, with mutual attraction. A hexagram indicating six clashes is like ice and charcoal in the same vessel, incompatible. Friendships that first harmonize but then clash will not last long and will soon part. Friendships that first clash but then harmonize, although they may have a period of distance, can still reconcile.

（以財爻為主，應象為憑。）索債還從世應尋，應爻生世必歡忻，世臨兄弟財難取，應陷空中物送人。放債本圖利息，日久人心更變。若應爻生世，不負信行遂有償還之意。世臨兄弟，財亦休囚必然被騙。應落空亡，彼非逃故，亦是貧乏無力而還也。

If the "World Line" is occupied by the "Siblings," and the "Wife Wealth" is weak and confined, it is certain that the debtor will deceive and refuse to pay. If the "Response Line" falls into an empty position, the debtor is either avoiding the debt or is poor and unable to repay.

應值鬼爻如克世，彼生惡計賴其銀，應逢兄弟傷身命，口是心非定不仁。應值鬼爻克世，應臨兄弟克世者，皆主不良，口吐出穢之言，心存奸險之意，不惟無利，資本亦虧，若加雀虎，反有禍非。縱若鬼兄臨此應，不傷身世靜非嗔。但應爻臨兄、臨鬼、靜不傷世者，雖見遲延，終無抵賴。

The Response Line is occupied by the Official Ghost and it further attacks the World Line, indicating the other party will form bad intentions and refuse to pay the silver; if the Response Line is occupied by Siblings and harms the Hexagram Body and the native's fate, it signifies a person who speaks insincerely and lacks righteousness. If the Response Line is occupied by the Official Ghost and attacks the World Line, or if it is occupied by Siblings and attacks the World Line, it indicates the other party has improper intentions, speaking unpleasant words while harboring deceitful schemes, resulting in no interest and even loss of principal. If the Vermilion Bird and White Tiger are also present, it may lead to further troubles and disputes. However, even if the Official Ghost or Siblings are on the Response Line, as long as they are quiet and do not harm the Hexagram Body or the World Line, there is no need to worry. As long as the Response Line, although occupied by Siblings or the Official Ghost, remains quiet and does not attack the World Line, the debt collection may be delayed but will not result in the other party refusing to pay.

如帶文書遲可得，應居財福遂吾心，子興財旺兄爻靜，本利無虧倍獲金。如應臨父母不克世者，或加勾陳，不過遲遲而已，終久有財可得。應值財爻或臨福德，縱不生世，財亦如心。若得子興財旺，兄弟或休或靜，本不虧而利倍獲乃上分大吉之卦。兄動財空連本失，鬼化為財須訴論。兄弟動或財空，本利絕望。若鬼化為財，必經官追訴，方可得之。

If Children are strong and active, and Wealth is prosperous and strong, while Siblings are quiet, the principal remains intact and the interest can double. If the Response Line is occupied by Wealth or is associated with Children, even if it does not generate the World Line, the money will be obtained as desired. If further supported by strong and active Children and prosperous Wealth, with Siblings either weak or quiet, then the principal remains intact and the interest is doubled, which is an excellent omen. If Siblings become active or Wealth is lost, both principal and interest are lost. If Official Ghost transforms into Wealth, legal action is required to recover the money. If Siblings become active or Wealth is lost, neither principal nor interest can be expected. If Official Ghost transforms into Wealth, legal proceedings are necessary to obtain the money.

（以妻財為主，世應為憑。）借求資本要財興，財不空亡無改更，生合日期方可得，六沖爻象定虛名。借本經營，須靠財爻旺相，或不落空或生世克世，決然便得而無阻隔，然待日辰生合財爻之日，方可到手。六沖之卦萬事無成，豈有得財之理者也，休望！休望！

If the hexagram encounters "Six Clashes," nothing will be accomplished, so there is no reason to expect gaining wealth, and one should not expect it anymore.

世應不空兄不動，無財有鬼也須成，後查何日財爻值，便是人間交兌情。世應俱不落空，兄弟又不發動，乃無阻隔之神，雖無財爻上卦而有鬼爻出見，必主得財，要知何日得財，財值之期是也。凡若間爻空與絕，其間中保定無能。一卦之中兩間爻，係為中作保之人，但得旺相生合，決然扶助，若遇空遇絕，乃無力無能不能贊囊耳。若動來克世者，反生嫉妒阻撓。

Even if the 'Wealth' does not appear in the hexagram, as long as the 'Official Ghost' is present, wealth will certainly be obtained. To know on which day the transaction will succeed, look at the day when the 'Wealth' is in charge. If both middle lines fall into emptiness or are in a dead position, the person acting as an intermediary will certainly be incapable. The two lines between the 'World Line' and 'Response Line' represent the intermediaries. If they are prosperous and strong and generate and harmonize with others, they will certainly be willing to help. If they fall into a period of emptiness or a dead position, they will be incapable and unable to help. If these two lines activate and come to overcome the 'World Line', they will instead feel jealous and obstruct the process.

日辰沖應遭人破，月建扶財囊可盈。日辰沖應或加朱雀交重，必被饞言破阻，日月生用或加青龍福德同宮，決然財盈囊門耳。借貸衣舟尋父母，那移禽獸子孫憑。凡借貸之物，各取其用，冠服文書舟車器血之類，父母為用。飛禽走獸鱗介生氣之物，子孫為用。興隆大吉，空絕大凶。

The day branch conflicting with the response line indicates being sabotaged by others. If the month builder supports the wealth line, then the money bag can be filled. If the day branch conflicts with the response line, or if the response line has the Vermilion Bird as a reinforcing line, it will certainly be ruined by slander. If the day branch and month builder support the useful god, or if the Azure Dragon and children are in the same line, then the wealth will certainly be abundant. When borrowing clothes or vehicles, refer to the parents line. When borrowing animals or livestock, refer to the children line. All borrowed items have their own useful god: clothing, documents, vehicles, and utensils use the parents line; living creatures such as birds, beasts, fish, turtles, and insects use the children line. If the useful god is strong, it is very auspicious; if it is weak or in decline, it is very inauspicious.

（以財爻主為，世象為憑。）搖會求財忌六沖，財官不失便亨通，世無空破財不絕，管取其銀入手中。搖會者乃實銀赴會，祈而得之，最忌六沖，沖者散也，豈能成會而得財乎？惟要財官並見，生合世爻者必得自然之利。財世兩爻值空值破值絕，此乃用爻被害乃無用也，會豈得成，而銀豈得濟哉？

When seeking wealth through casting lots, the worst thing is encountering "Six Clashes." As long as both "Wealth" and "Official Ghost" remain intact, the matter will proceed smoothly. If the "World Line" does not fall into an empty position, is not broken by the month, and "Wealth" does not appear in a dead position, the money will certainly be obtained.the so-called casting lots refers to people bringing real silver together for a gathering, and obtaining money by drawing lots. The worst thing is encountering "Six Clashes" — clash means dispersion, if the gathering is broken up, how can one obtain money? If both "Wealth" and "Official Ghost" appear together and the "World" is harmonized with the "World," profit will naturally be made. If both "Wealth" and "World Line" fall into an empty position, are broken by the month, or appear in a dead position, the useful god is harmed and becomes ineffective, the gathering cannot be held, and the money cannot be properly circulated.

兄爻持世兄爻動，世或空亡財或空。兄弟者，乃阻耗之神，豈宜持世？又或發動卦中大忌。世為主者，財為用爻，安可落空？爻中值此定是會不財不得。無鬼無財皆不實，定然空去費心功。卦內無財則無財利，卦中無鬼則無張主，皆不成事，則枉費心機，徒然一番話柄耳。

When the "Siblings"爻 is sitting on the "World Line," or when the "Siblings"爻 is activated, or when the "World Line" or "Wealth"爻 is empty, these situations are all unfavorable. "Siblings" is a malevolent spirit that blocks and consumes wealth; it is not suitable to be in the position of the "World Line." If it is further activated, it becomes a major problem in the hexagram. The "World Line" represents the main position of the person seeking divination, and the "Wealth" is the key element in this context. How can these two important lines be empty? If these lines are missing, it is certain that the matter will not proceed and the money will not be obtained. If the hexagram has neither "Official Ghost" nor "Wealth," the matter will not be settled, and it will end up being a wasted effort. Without "Wealth" in the hexagram, there is no profit to be gained; without "Official Ghost," there is no one to take charge. Both things cannot be accomplished, resulting in a complete waste of time and effort, and ultimately nothing is achieved.

（以應爻為主，財象為憑。）要知產業何時脫，財值提綱便可拋，世應相沖多退悔，勾陳持世永堅牢。變賣產業，但看財爻生旺月日，便可賣去，財爻衰弱終難交易。世應相沖，彼此退悔兩不成交。勾陳者，乃職專田主，又為遲滯之神，若持世或動者，決難更變，永久無移，經云：勾陳職專田土，凡事終見遲留。

To know when land or property can be sold, if the "Wealth" line occupies the Month Builder (the main reference), then it is appropriate to sell. If the "Subject" and "Response" lines are in opposition, both parties are likely to regret the transaction. If "Gou Chen" is seated on the "Subject" line, the property will remain firmly in place and not be sold. Selling property should look at the month and day when the "Wealth" line is in a strong and flourishing condition, as then the sale can be made. If the "Wealth" line is weak, the transaction will ultimately fail. When the "Subject" and "Response" lines are in opposition, both parties will regret the deal and the transaction will not proceed. "Gou Chen" is a deity specifically in charge of land and fields, and it is a deity of delay. If "Gou Chen" holds the "Subject" position or becomes active, the property will be difficult to change hands and will remain unchanged for a long time. The classic text says: "Gou Chen is specifically in charge of land and fields; all matters will ultimately be delayed and dragged out."

應居空破誰人買，卦乏官爻孰與交，應生合世妻財旺，爭奪相求價必高。應爻為承買之人，若落空亡乃無力成交。日辰沖破，被人撓阻。用戶內外無官，亦難成事。應爻生世合世，又或財旺來生合，紛紛爭奪產價頓增。兄動財安難脫卸，鬼加雀動訟非招。兄弟若興，財爻安靜，又或空衰，決然難脫，不必多疑，若鬼鼓雀噪，必有訟累非招，牽纏不泰。

The Response Line represents the buyer. If it falls into an empty position or is broken, there will be no one to purchase. If the卦 lacks the Official Ghost, there will be no agreement. If the Response Line generates and harmonizes with the World Line, and the Wealth is strong, then buyers will compete for the property, and the price will certainly rise. The Response Line represents the buyer; if it falls into the empty position, it will be powerless to complete the transaction. If it is broken by the Day Branch, someone is obstructing the deal. If neither the Inner nor the Outer Trigrams contain the Official Ghost, the transaction will be difficult to complete. If the Response Line generates and harmonizes with the World Line, or if the Wealth is strong and generates and harmonizes with the World Line, then buyers will compete for the property, and the price will immediately rise. If the Siblings are active and the Wealth is still, the property will be difficult to sell. If the Official Ghost and Vermilion Bird are active, there will be legal troubles. If the Siblings are strong and the Wealth is still or falls into an empty and weak position, it is certain that the property cannot be sold, so there is no need to hesitate. If the Official Ghost and Vermilion Bird are active, there will certainly be disputes and troubles, leading to endless complications.

（以財福為主，世應為憑。）呼盧博戲忌兄興，子絕財空賭不亨。賭錢博奕之事，若兄弟興隆，必被抽籌竅碼，明取暗耗色不順而心不快，財物當輸。若子財不空不絕稍稍而已。一逢空，縱有萬貫囊資，渾如片雪投湯。

The dice will not be favorable, and the mind will not be at ease, leading to inevitable loss of money. If neither "children" nor "wife's wealth" are empty or in the绝, there will only be minor gains or losses. However, once they are empty, even if one carries a great fortune, it will be like a piece of snow thrown into boiling soup, disappearing in an instant.

世克應爻我已勝，應來傷世被他贏。世為自己應作他人，倘不傷克，彼我無異。克有數端；旺相能克休囚，休囚不能克旺相。安靜者，受克。發動者，難傷。故經云：靜休當受克，興旺決難傷。世克應爻者，我當全勝必滿心積意而返。應傷世象者，我必大敗，盡囊倒盧而歸。若旺世而生休應，若帶財子亦當大勝。不帶財子，稍得數文而已。旺應而生衰世，則彼來隨我，無不吉利。世應比和相生，彼此謙讓勝負無偏。

The "World Line" overcoming the "Response Line" indicates my victory, while the "Response Line" harming the "World Line" indicates the opponent's victory. The "World Line" represents oneself, and the "Response Line" represents the opponent. If neither side harms the other, there is no clear winner or loser. If the "World Line" overcomes the "Response Line," I will surely achieve a great victory, feeling completely satisfied and returning with joy. If the "Response Line" harms the "World Line," I will surely suffer a great defeat, returning with all my possessions exhausted. If the "World Line" is strong and goes on to generate the weak "Response Line," as long as the "World Line" carries the "Wealth" and "Children" lines, it will still result in a great victory; if it does not carry the "Wealth" and "Children" lines, it will only win a small amount of money. If the "Response Line" is strong and comes to generate the weak "World Line," this means the opponent is yielding to me, resulting in nothing but good fortune. If the "World Line" and "Response Line" are harmonious and mutually generating, they will show mutual respect and courtesy, with the outcome not favoring either side.

應空難遇輸錢客，世陷還遭資本傾。若應值空絕，場中寂寞而無對手。世當沖陷，袖裡空虛惟剩空拳。鬼靜兄衰財福旺，君回定唱凱歌聲。或遇官鬼安靜，兄弟衰絕，財爻旺相，子象興隆，乃獲大利，爽心遂意，復遊笑樂而歸矣。

The "Response Line" falling into an empty position means you won't find an opponent willing to bet in the gambling house. If the "World Line" is trapped in an empty position, you will lose even your own capital. If the "Response Line" falls into a旬空 or is in a dead position, the gambling house will be deserted with no one to bet against. If the "World Line" is being冲 (conflicted) or falls into an empty position, you will be empty-handed, with only empty fists left. If the "Official Ghost" is quiet, the "Siblings" are weak, and the "Wealth" and "Children" are strong, you will certainly return singing victory songs. If the "Official Ghost" is quiet, the "Siblings" are weak and in a dead position, the "Wealth" is prosperous, and the "Children" are flourishing, then you will gain great profits, be satisfied and happy, enjoy yourself fully, and return home laughing and talking.

（以妻財為主，世應內外為憑。）漁獵皆宜財旺相，爻中無鬼莫興張，財官兩備方能獲，一象逢空便不昌。凡漁翁獵戶來占，惟取財官為用，卦中缺一便不為美，必得財旺官隆並見，乃漁得巨鱗獵擒大獸。若財鬼二爻一值空亡，則鵝飛戾天魚躍於淵，空張戈矢而不能御。

For those who fish or hunt seeking divination, only "妻财" and "官鬼" are considered as useful gods. If either is missing, the outcome is not complete. Only when both "妻财" and "官鬼" are prosperous and strong can one catch a big fish or hunt a large animal. If either "妻财" or "官鬼" falls into "空亡" (void), then birds fly high in the sky and fish hide deep in the water, and even with bows and nets, nothing can be caught.

世克應爻內克外，管教年得利非常，外爻克內應傷世，枉費心機空自忙。世為人應為物，內為人外為物。若我克物，漁獵盡善俱獲大利。若物傷我，縱有強弓硬弩密網張戈，決難捕捉。世落旬空兄弟動，縱然有物不收藏。若世值旬空月破，乃自無良技奇能，或有兄弟發動，定是靈禽異獸怪鱗智介，畢竟高飛遠遁而難收捕。

The World Line爻 is strong and overcomes the Response Line爻, and the Inner Trigram overcomes the Outer Trigram, which indicates great profit during the year. However, if the Outer Trigram overcomes the Inner Trigram and the Response Line harms the World Line, then efforts will be wasted and there will be fruitless toil. The World Line represents the hunter, and the Response Line represents the prey. The Inner Trigram represents people, and the Outer Trigram represents things. If I can control the things, hunting and fishing will be smooth and successful, leading to great gains. But if the things harm me, even with strong bows, hard nets, and sharp weapons, it will be impossible to capture them. If the World Line falls into the旬空 and the Siblings move, even if the prey is seen, it cannot be caught. If the World Line is in旬空 and is also harmed by the month breaker, it shows lack of skill or special ability. If the Siblings also move, the birds, beasts, fish, and turtles will be clever and alert, eventually flying away or escaping, making capture difficult.

The text repeats this point again: storing property is good when the "Wife Wealth" is quiet, the "Official Ghost" is weak, and the "Children" are strong; it is bad when the "Siblings" are active, the "World Line" is broken, and the "Response Line" is empty. Whenever divining about leaving property in someone else's home, it is essential that the "Wife Wealth" line is quiet, the "Official Ghost" line is still, and the "Children" line is strong and prosperous; this is the best situation. If the "Siblings" line becomes active, it is not good. If the "World Line" is affected by a clash or the "Response Line" is empty, there will inevitably be loss, and such a trust cannot be considered reliable.

應傷衰世他非善，世隨鬼墓我非祥。世為我應為彼，而世不可空，若被旺應傷克衰世，他必非是善良之輩。或世隨官鬼入墓，而財為主象，忌入空亡，靜無後患之辭，動有變爻之論。貨物悉以財爻為主，當形象於六爻，切忌空亡無氣。財明沉靜，則久久無損。興發則有變動之機兆也。

The Response Line injures and overpowers the weak World Line, indicating that the family in question is not of good character; when the World Line follows the Official Ghost into the tomb, it is also an inauspicious sign. The World Line represents me, and the Response Line represents the other party. The World Line must not be empty. If a prosperous and strong Response Line injures a weak World Line, then the family is certainly not virtuous. Alternatively, if the World Line follows the Official Ghost into the tomb, it is also a凶兆. As for the Wealth Line, it is the main symbol in this chapter and should be avoided from falling into the void. If it is quiet, there is no danger; but once it becomes active, it should be interpreted according to the Changing Line. All stored goods are primarily represented by the Wealth Line, and one must clearly see its form within the six lines, avoiding emptiness and lack of vitality. A clear and calm Wealth Line indicates that the goods will remain undamaged for a long time; but once it becomes active and vigorous, there are signs of potential troubles.

化絕化空，終遭虧損。化兄化鬼，豈不成傷。動者化機括，化者動之變遷，如財爻一至於化絕則絕，無可生之理；或財爻一至於化空則空，寧有盈實之肘，故日終遭虧損。兄弟乃克財之神，化兄則財遭剝伐，鬼爻為洩氣之輩，化鬼則財被侵謀，故日豈不侵傷者也。

The "Wealth" line transforms into a dead end and an empty void, ultimately leading to loss; transforming into "Siblings" or "Official Ghost" cannot avoid damage. The movement is the mechanism of change, and the changing line is the turning point after movement: once "Wealth" turns into a dead end, it truly becomes dead and there is no way for it to revive; once "Wealth" turns into an empty void, it becomes completely empty, where can there be fullness? Therefore, it inevitably leads to loss. "Siblings" is a harmful spirit that restrains "Wealth," so when "Wealth" transforms into "Siblings," the wealth is taken away. "Official Ghost" is a line that drains the energy of "Wealth," so when "Wealth" transforms into "Official Ghost," the wealth is schemed and taken by others. Therefore, how can it avoid loss?

化子化財咸吉慶，化生化旺永平寧。子孫是福神，生財之母也。財爻為主宰，安寄之司也。咸皆吉慶，是為至理。財化生源，物化旺相，永獲平寧，而豈妄焉。化水防上下之玄冥，亥子父動皆然。玄冥，水神也。財化水爻，或卦申水火發動，恐遭上漏下溼而致腐爛也。化火防內外之祝融，巳午鬼興同意。祝融，火神也。財如化火，或爻中火鬼交重，應慮內失外延焚如之慘。

The "wife's wealth" transforming into "children" or into "wife's wealth" are both auspicious signs; transforming into the land of growth or into a prosperous and strong region brings long-term peace and safety. "Children" are the gods of fortune and virtue, and also the source of wealth; "wife's wealth" is the main element of this chapter, and is the useful god governing matters of storage. These two are both auspicious signs, which is the most appropriate interpretation. When "wife's wealth" transforms into its birth place, goods become prosperous and strong, naturally ensuring long-term safety, which is not empty talk. If "wife's wealth" transforms into a water element, one should be cautious of the water god "Xuanming" causing trouble. The same applies if the "parents" on the "Hai" or "Zi" water elements are activated. Xuanming refers to the water god: if "wife's wealth" transforms into a water element, or if water elements in the hexagram are activated, there is a fear of leaks from above and backflow from below, which may ruin the goods. If "wife's wealth" transforms into a fire element, one should be cautious of the fire god "Zhurong" causing trouble. The same applies if the "official ghost" on "Si" or "Wu" fire elements becomes strong and active. Zhurong refers to the fire god: if "wife's wealth" transforms into a fire element, or if the fire-related "official ghost" elements are strongly activated, one should be concerned about fires inside the house spreading to the outside, causing great disaster.

遇玄武，恆憂偷盜。逢朱雀，每恐生非。玄武是賊人，恆者常也，常常憂盜賊侵偷子財。朱雀唇吻也，每亦常也，每每恐怕激生口舌。六合最宜寄頓，六沖豈可安藏。六合之爻或日辰合世應，大官寄財頓物因其彼此心口投機。六沖之爻，或日沖主用，不得安貨藏財為其付託，後有更變也。後之學者宜細參詳。總言受讀之者，更宜參酌推詳，不可以其易而忽諸。

When the hexagram encounters "Xuanwu," one should constantly beware of theft; when it meets "Zhuque," one should always fear causing disputes. "Xuanwu" represents thieves, and "Heng" means constantly, so one should always be anxious about thieves stealing stored property. "Zhuque" signifies verbal conflicts, and "Mei" also means constantly, so one should be cautious everywhere to avoid provoking arguments. When the hexagram meets "Liuhe," it is most suitable for storing things; when it meets "Liu chong," one cannot feel secure in storing valuables. When the hexagram is "Liuhe," or when the day branch combines with "Shi" and "Ying" to be harmonious, it is most appropriate to store property, because both parties are in agreement. When the hexagram is "Liu chong," or when the day branch clashes with the main useful god, one should not store goods there, because after entrusting them, there will certainly be troubles. Later learners should carefully study these points. In general, those who read this chapter should repeatedly consider and explore it, without dismissing it because its wording is simple.

（以世爻為主，用象為憑。）收回人畜產和書，贖取衣衾實其珠，俱怕六沖兄獨發，還嫌世位值空時。但凡回贖男女、離獸、房產、車船、書籍、衣飾珍寶之類，皆忌六沖之卦。兄弟為阻節之神，不宜獨發。世象乃贖物之主，最怕空亡。

The specific "Useful Gods" (用神) for each type of item are considered. In general, when redeeming people, animals, property, vehicles, books, clothing, and treasures, the "Six Clashes" should be avoided. The "Siblings" areInauspicious Spirit that cause obstacles and difficulties, and should not act alone. The "World Line" represents the person redeeming the item, and it is most feared when it falls into the "Empty Wasteland."

更愁日月來沖世，合處加沖變定知，應克世爻難合就，用空鬼失嘆虛辭。凡占以世為自己，最嫌日月來沖，又怕應爻來克。世應雖逢相合，若被日主或變象沖開當允諧後必悔更。世象縱無沖破，鞝若用值旬空或卦無鬼，豈得如心，決難回贖。

What is more worrying is that the day branch and month builder come to clash and control the world line; originally compatible, now an additional clash occurs, and the matter will certainly change; the response line comes to control the world line, and the two sides cannot agree; the useful god falls into an empty period, and the hexagram loses the official ghost, making promised words turn into empty talk. In divination, the world line represents oneself, and one most fears the day branch and month builder coming to clash, and also fears the response line coming to control it. Although the world and response lines are compatible, if they are split by the day branch or changing line, although they agree readily at the moment, they will certainly regret it afterwards. Even if the world line is not split, if the useful god falls into an empty period, or if the hexagram lacks the official ghost, it will be difficult to satisfy one's wishes, and this property will certainly not be able to be redeemed.

諸般不犯方為得，見一一徒勞意相痴，再問所求何物件，用爻入卦原能知。但占回贖貨物，所忌六沖兄動，世空世破，合處逢沖用象落空，六爻無鬼，以上數端毫無所犯者，事必勝心，物能返璧。如犯忌爻，終當絕望，細查所贖何物，方定用爻。問妻僕、而看財爻，占書籍而觀父母，占禽獸而推福德，贖田地而察勾陳，若得用爻上卦，不值旬空便能如原。

If none of the above are violated, it is possible to redeem the item; if any of them are violated, it is in vain to worry and futile to be overly hopeful. As for what exactly is being redeemed, it can be understood by whether the Useful God is in the Upper Trigram. When divining about redeeming goods, the things to avoid are: the卦 encountering 'Six Clashes', 'Siblings' being activated, the World Line falling into emptiness or being destroyed, a harmonious relationship being interrupted by a clash, the Useful God falling into emptiness, and the six lines not seeing 'Official Ghost'. If none of these are violated, the matter will certainly go smoothly and the item can be fully recovered. If any of the forbidden elements are present, one can only end up in despair. One must also carefully examine what is being redeemed in order to determine the Useful God: for redeeming a wife, concubine, or servant, look at 'Wealth'; for redeeming books, look at 'Parents'; for redeeming animals, look at 'Children' (Fortune Virtue); for redeeming land, examine 'Gou Chen'. As long as the Useful God is in the Upper Trigram and not in the旬 empty position, the wish will be fulfilled.

（以用爻為主，不空不絕為佳。）物之真偽卻難憑，爻察虛盈必有因，僧道獸禽憑福德，神仙妖怪鬼為尊，珍珠古物財中取，印信文書父上尋，蘆藤竹木查寅卯，玉石鋼銅辨酉申，綾羅絹緞須從火，如此將來定用神。探辨物之真假，由加意而窺測難信虛浮遽為實切，必察物之虧盈，庶免彼之悔弄，緇流羽上子孫上究。飛禽走獸，福德中求。鬼是神仙妖怪，財乃玩器珠珍，父母尋印信文書，寅卯作蘆藤竹木，金銀銅鐵玉石莫逃於申酉，綾羅一疋絹絲，可索於南離，如斯剖決用神也。

This chapter discusses identifying the authenticity of objects, with the Useful God as the main focus, and it is best when the Useful God does not fall into emptiness or a dead end. Whether an object is genuine or fake cannot be determined solely by appearance; examining the lines will reveal the truth. Monks and Taoists rely on the "Children" (Fortune Virtue) line, while spirits and demons are associated with the "Official Ghost" line. Pearls and ancient artifacts are determined by the "Wealth" line, official documents and seals are found in the "Parents" line, reeds, vines, bamboo, and wood are checked through the "Yin" and "Mao" lines, and jade, steel, and copper are identified through the "Shen" and "You" lines. Silk, satin, and brocade must be examined through the fire line. By following this method, the Useful God can be determined. To discern the authenticity of an object, one must be cautious and careful, not easily deceived by superficial appearances. One must examine its condition and integrity to avoid being misled. Monks and Taoists are determined through the "Children" line, while flying creatures and animals are also found in the "Children" (Fortune Virtue) line. The "Official Ghost" line governs spirits and demons, the "Wealth" line governs playthings and jewels, the "Parents" line is where official documents and seals are found, the "Yin" and "Mao" wood lines represent reeds, vines, bamboo, and wood, and gold, silver, copper, iron, and jade cannot escape the "Shen" and "You" metal lines. Silk, satin, and silk threads must be sought in the southern fire line. By following this method, the Useful God can be discerned.

遇空絕推為假，逢旺逢生斷作真，受克受沖物必損，有扶有合價如金。用若空亡死絕，定為假物。用如旺相長生，非是贗品，為被克被沖，物身瑕玷有損，逢扶逢合，價值高貴不低。若伏生中宜用負，如居克下不須擒。設若伏處遇生，買之得當。倘伏制於克下，卻為非宜。世克用爻能易得，用爻克世最難求。易得易求之物，定是世克用爻。難求難取之珍，斷然用爻克世。物理隱蘊於幽微，人心旁搜於洞察。

The useful god falling into the empty space of the ten-day cycle and entering the state of death and decline indicates it is a fake; when the useful god meets prosperity and strength and receives support, it is genuine. If the useful god is attacked or conflicted, the object must have damage; if it receives support and forms a connection, its value is as precious as gold. If the useful god falls into 'empty death' or death and decline, it is certainly fake; if the useful god is prosperous or sits in the state of growth, it is not a fake. If it is attacked or conflicted, the object has flaws or damage; if it receives support and forms a connection, its value is certainly high. If the useful god is hidden but receives support, it is suitable to buy; if it is hidden and suppressed by the attacking god, it is not advisable to take. If the hidden god is in a position that receives support, buying it is appropriate; if the hidden god is controlled by the flying god above, it is not advisable to act. If the world line attacks the useful god, it is easy to obtain; if the useful god attacks the world line, it is the hardest to obtain. Things that are easy to get or obtain are certainly when the world line attacks the useful god; things that are hard to obtain are certainly when the useful god attacks the world line. The principles hidden in objects lie in subtle and profound places, but human minds must search from all sides to understand them clearly.

（以三爻為主，鬼靜為憑。）凡人問卜置眠床，卻把三爻作用詳。寢室為歇息之所，眠床乃寢臥之區，置之迪吉，居之定安，百姓下以否藏三爻用為判斷，忌值鬼爻多病疾，宜加財福永安康。用爻若逢官鬼，名曰忌神管攝，便有疾病生焉。如遇財福是為吉象，豈不安寧？

This chapter discusses the auspiciousness and inauspiciousness of placing a bed. The third line is the main focus, and the stillness of "official ghost" is the criterion. When people consult about placing a bed, the third line is regarded as the useful god, and it should be carefully analyzed. The bedroom is a place for rest, and the bed is where one sleeps. If the placement is favorable, living there will be stable and secure. Whether or not the household is peaceful depends on the third line as the useful god. This line should avoid having "official ghost" sitting on it, as this often leads to illness. It is favorable to have "wealth" and "children" added, which brings long-term health and security. If the useful god line encounters "official ghost," it is said to be controlled by the hostile god, and illness will arise from this. If it encounters "wealth" and "children," it is a favorable sign, how could one not be peaceful?

但逢兄弟妻當厄，僧道占之反吉祥。財為妻室，兄爻鬼之定主荊人有厄，兄是比和，孤獨見之，即為同伴何妨。床爻克世身遭患，如臨父母損兒郎。凡是我御之者，得之安，則世世安然。凡克世爻者遭之否，則常常染患。父母為傷兒之殺，不可親臨。

If the bed line is occupied by the 'Brothers' hexagram, the wife may suffer misfortune, but if a monk or Taoist diviner encounters it, it is auspicious. The 'Wealth' hexagram represents the wife, and 'Brothers' is the one that harms 'Wealth'. If 'Brothers' appears on the bed line, it certainly indicates difficulties for the wife at home. However, 'Brothers' is a similar and harmonious hexagram to me, so a solitary monk or Taoist encountering it would regard it as a companion, causing no harm. If the bed line harms the 'World Line', the person himself will suffer illness. If the bed line is occupied by 'Parents', it will harm the children. Any hexagram that I can control brings stability and ensures peace throughout life. Any hexagram that harms the 'World Line' brings misfortune and frequent illness. 'Parents' is aInauspicious Sha that harms the children; it should not appear on the bed line.

推官不獨三爻上，凡鬼交重便作殃。官若作殃，不獨三爻而見，鬼能為禍，寧辭六位而推。六沖非是安身，所用神不可犯空亡。床欲安身，沖並難能寧諡，三為床體，空亡豈得安祥？屋猶榻定夫婦之居，床即房為蕃息之處，事非小可，樂莫大焉。

The concept of "official ghost" (官鬼) is not limited to the third line; in the six lines of a hexagram, whenever "official ghost" appears in an intersecting line or a repeated line and becomes active, it can cause trouble. The trouble caused by "official ghost" does not only appear on the third line; it can bring harm, and therefore all six lines should be considered together. When a hexagram encounters "six clashes" (六冲), it is not a sign of stability, and the chosen useful god (用神) should not be in "empty loss" (空亡). A bed is used for resting, but when a hexagram shows clashes, it is difficult to find peace; the third line corresponds to the bed itself, and if it falls into "empty loss," where can stability be found? A house is like a bed, and it is meant for the couple to live together; the room where the bed is located is the place for raising children. This matter is not trivial; if it is properly arranged, there is no greater happiness in life than this.

（以用爻為主，福德為憑。）修合壽木用爻求，安靜興隆百載留。人以百歲為期，棺以七寸普厚，為親而充虞敦匠，因子而顏路請車治造，或吉歲而閏年停閣，原千秋而萬紀，取舍憑占，喜忌愛卜。用爻安靜綿遠淹留，主象旺興延長永久。

This chapter discusses the auspicious and inauspicious aspects of constructing a coffin. The main focus is on the "useful god" (用神), with the "children" (子孙) and "fortune virtue" (福德) as the basis. When making a coffin, one should seek the "useful god." If the "useful god" is calm and prosperous, the coffin can be preserved for a hundred years. Humans are considered to have a maximum lifespan of a hundred years, while the standard thickness of a coffin is seven inches. Mencius once sent Zhongyu to supervise the making of a coffin for his mother's burial, and Yan Lu also once asked to sell his cart to buy a coffin for his son Yan Hui's funeral. Some people prepare coffins in good years or leap years, keeping them ready for use. Their intention is to ensure the coffin remains intact for generations. Whether to make or not to make a coffin depends on divination. If the "useful god" is calm, the coffin will last long. If the main symbol is prosperous and strong, it also signifies a long life.

如陷如無延數日，逢生逢旺度千秋。用若原無或傾陷，止活數日而已。用如長生或旺相，壽享長一。化空化鬼身難久，無破無傷壽未休。主爻化空化鬼，其身難久不損，無沖厥壽靡竅。

If the useful god falls into emptiness or does not appear in the upper trigram, the person's life will be only a few days; if the useful god meets birth and prosperity, he can live for thousands of years. If the useful god originally does not appear in the upper trigram or falls into emptiness and decline, he can only live a few more days; if the useful god is in the state of growth or is prosperous and strong, his lifespan will be long. If the useful god transforms into emptiness or into the official ghost, his body will not be able to last long; if it is not broken and not injured, his lifespan has not yet come to an end. If the main爻 changes into emptiness or into the official ghost, the person's body will not be able to last long; conversely, if it is not damaged or conflicted, his lifespan will be endless.

鬼動忌興休合槨，龍搖子發任興修。鬼爻為凶惡之神，忌神乃克用之煞，故不宜動，動則不可做材。龍福乃禎之兆，青龍為喜慶之星，興搖允宜合木。鬼克世身終害己，隨官入墓即丁憂。應克世身者，鬼也。忌興而反來克害於我，亦何益矣！葬埋棺槨者，墳也。忌鬼而反去，隨官入墓，豈不憂哉？

When the "Official Ghost" moves and the "Hostile God" becomes strong, one should not proceed with making a coffin. If the "Azure Dragon" moves and the "Children" activate, then it is appropriate to proceed with construction. The "Official Ghost" is an evil spirit, and the "Hostile God" is a harmful force that restrains the "Useful God," so neither should be activated, as any movement would be inauspicious. The "Azure Dragon" and the "Children" are auspicious signs, and the "Azure Dragon" is especially a star of celebration. When it moves, it is most suitable to make wooden coffins. The "Official Ghost" restrains the "World Line" and the Hexagram Body, ultimately harming oneself. If the "World Line" follows the "Official Ghost" into a grave, one will encounter mourning. The one that restrains the "World Line" and the Hexagram Body is the "Official Ghost." Although we already dislike its strength, it now turns to harm us. What benefit can there be? The place where the coffin is buried becomes a grave. We already dislike the "Official Ghost," yet the "World Line" follows it into the grave. How can this not cause worry and fear?

凡遇間爻傷世者，尤防工匠起奸謀。匠人在間爻上看，不發動傷世，工師不謀損於吾。若發動克身，匠作必肆奸害於我。倘然驚倒尋官鬼，縱動無官莫慮愁。又有一等木匠不存恆心主人家，或有怠慢，則魔禳陰害，但官鬼不作，萬無妨己，縱然別爻發動，不繫官鬼，亦何愁慮之有？

Whenever the "Intermediary Line" harms or restrains the "World Line," one should be especially cautious about craftsmen harboring ill intentions. When examining the "Intermediary Line," if this line does not activate or harm the "World Line," the craftsman will not scheme against you. However, if it activates and harms the Hexagram Body, the craftsman will certainly act deceitfully to harm you. If you are worried about being secretly harmed, check the "Official Ghost." Even if other lines activate but are not the "Official Ghost," there is no need to worry. There are also some carpenters who do not intend to maintain a long-term relationship with the homeowner. If the homeowner shows even slight negligence, they will use witchcraft to harm them secretly. But as long as the "Official Ghost" does not activate, they will not be harmed. Even if other lines activate, as long as they are not the "Official Ghost," there is nothing to worry about.

（以財爻為主，應象為憑。）留妻留僕財為用，逢旺逢生必遂機，應帶煞神沖剋世，陰謀誠恐害身軀。男女原有室家，夫得婦以陪衾枕，無今人不成君子主得僕以當侯門屙，或去或留決同人之美惡，宜取宜舍，究藏獲之吉凶。妻房以妻財為主，童僕以財象為憑，旺相而妻女在心，生扶而廝養得力，應帶官鬼大煞而沖剋於世，我後被設陰險之謀。用坐煞害而刑傷於我，世被彼生奸宄之驗。

To retain one's wife and servants, the "Wealth" line is considered the useful god. If this line is prosperous and strong, it will certainly bring satisfaction. However, if the "Response Line" carries凶煞 and clashes with the "World Line," one should be wary of hidden schemes that may harm oneself. Men and women should each have their own households; a husband gains a wife to share his bed and sleep together, and a master gains servants to guard the home. Whether to keep or dismiss depends on the character of these individuals, and whether they are auspicious or not should be carefully considered. Wives are judged by the "Wealth" line, and servants are also judged by the "Wealth" line: if this line is prosperous and strong, it indicates that the wife is loyal to the family; if this line is supported and assisted, it means the servants are diligent. If the "Response Line" brings the "Official Ghost" and great sha to clash with the "World Line," one will later find out about his sinister intentions. If the useful god is seated on凶煞 and suffers injuries, it is a sign that the "World Line" has developed wicked thoughts.

應空身在心不在，財破情虛命又虛，應不空亡財不破，妻無他意僕無欺。應空則身浮心詐，財破則壽夭情虛，若得應不空亡，雖荊布而同心力，則無破損不欺主而赤膽忠心。財安子動留還吉，鬼發兄興去速宜，六合始終無變易，六沖朝夕應分離。凡留妻僕，最宜財安子旺相。招養屬，不宜鬼發兄興，六合則有始有終，永無更變。六沖則難防不測，早晚分離。

The "Response Line" falling into an empty position indicates that a person's body is here but their mind is already elsewhere; the "Wealth" line being broken suggests false affection and a short lifespan. If the "Response Line" does not fall into an empty position and the "Wealth" line is not broken, the wife will have no double heart and the servant will not deceive the master. If the "Response Line" falls into an empty position, it means the person is superficial and deceitful; if the "Wealth" line is broken, it means a short life and false affection. If the "Response Line" does not fall into an empty position, even if the wife is poor and wears simple clothes, she will be loyal and work together with the husband. If the "Wealth" line is not broken, the servant will not deceive the master and will be loyal and devoted. If the "Wealth" line is quiet and the "Children" line is active, staying is auspicious. If the "Official Ghost" line is active and the "Siblings" line is strong, it is advisable to send them away early. If the hexagram meets the "Six Harmony," it will remain unchanged throughout; if it meets the "Six Clashes," separation is inevitable soon. To retain a wife, concubine, or servant, it is most favorable for the "Wealth" line to be quiet and the "Children" line to be strong. For adoption or recruitment, it is not favorable for the "Official Ghost" line to be active and the "Siblings" line to be strong. If the hexagram meets the "Six Harmony," there will be a beginning and an end, with no change. If it meets the "Six Clashes," it is difficult to prevent unexpected events, and separation is certain.

如留子侄兒憂絕，若用他人應莫虛，手足卻嫌兄弟陷，各分用象決高低。如留子孫，取子孫為主，留他人，取應象為憑。留手足，觀乎兄弟。留尊長，察其文書，各定用爻，莫臨空絕。凡用爻生世合世則吉，沖世克世則凶。用應有拱向之理，世我大要生扶，若也無情而不如始不相識，如臨有益而門祚到底竟克合終。

If you want to retain descendants, be cautious that the 'Children' line enters the绝 (decline) position; if you want to retain outsiders, the 'Response' line must not be empty; if you want to retain siblings, then the 'Siblings' line should not be in an empty position. Each should determine the Useful God according to their status, in order to judge whether to retain or let go. To retain descendants, take the 'Children' line as the main reference; to retain outsiders, take the 'Response' line as the basis; to retain siblings, look at the 'Siblings' line; to retain elders, examine the 'Parents' (document) line. Each Useful God must be clearly determined and must not fall into the旬空 (empty period) or the绝 (decline) position. Whenever the Useful God generates the 'World' line or harmonizes with the 'World' line, it is auspicious; if it conflicts with or overcomes the 'World' line, it is inauspicious. The Useful God and the 'Response' line originally have the principle of mutual support and facing each other; they are also very important in supporting the 'World' line. If they show no affection towards each other, it is better that they had never met before; if they can support and benefit each other, then this line of fortune will be harmonious and complete from beginning to end.

（以世應為主，生克為憑。）彼我相爭世應尋，忌沖忌克喜相生。凡占爭鬥，只把世應分為兩我，若世應行合，彼此並無大忿，亦無大損大益，倘遇克害刑沖，則爭長競短，各用機謀，故經云：欲分勝負，先將世應推詳。

This chapter discusses divination for disputes and conflicts, focusing on the "World" and "Response" lines, using the relationships of generation and control between the two lines as a basis. When two parties are in conflict, the information about the dispute can be found in the "World" and "Response" lines. It is undesirable if they clash or control each other, and favorable if they generate each other. In any divination concerning disputes, the "World" and "Response" lines are considered as two opposing sides. If the two lines are in harmony, there is no major conflict between the parties, and there is no significant gain or loss. However, if there is control, harm, punishment, or clash between them, then there will be arguments and strategies from both sides. Therefore, the classic text says: to determine the outcome, first investigate the "World" and "Response" lines thoroughly.

日月沖身我受辱，交重克應彼遭刑。世乃我之用爻，豈可傷克？若日辰月建沖剋世者，我必被辱。若內外動爻克應者，彼必受虧。應爻克世他當勝，世爻克應我當贏。應爻為彼，若克我世者，我必有虧。彼旺克我，世又衰微大受損傷。若帶官兄雀虎劫煞等神來克者，小則受辱破財，大則經官被責，莫可輕視。倘或應雖伐世，彼當衰絕之鄉，或被日辰月將沖應克世者，名曰自己受制無能害人，我雖被克決無大害，空則亦然。若世旺克應或世動克應、日辰生我克應、或動爻助我克應者，則不費心力理直勢順，大獲全功。

The day branch and month builder clash and control the hexagram body, and I will suffer humiliation; the moving line clashing with the response line indicates the other party will suffer loss. The world line is my useful god, and it should not be harmed. If the day branch and month builder clash with the world line, I will certainly be humiliated; if the moving lines within the inner and outer trigrams clash with the response line, the other party will certainly suffer. If the response line controls the world line, the other party will win; if the world line controls the response line, I will win. The response line represents the other party, and if it controls my world line, I will certainly suffer loss; especially since they are strong and I am weak, the world line will suffer serious damage. If the line that is coming to control the world line also carries the official ghost, siblings, vermilion bird, white tiger, or robbery sha, the consequences can be minor humiliation and financial loss, or severe legal troubles and punishment, and this should not be taken lightly. If the response line although attacks the world line, is itself in a declining or dying state, or is controlled by the day branch or month builder, even though it attacks the world line, it will be powerless, which is called the other party being controlled first and thus unable to harm me, so even though I am attacked, there will be no major harm. If the response line falls into an empty position, it is the same situation. If the world line is strong and controls the response line, or if the world line moves and controls the response line, or if the day branch supports me and controls the response line, or if there is a moving line assisting me to control the response line, then there is no need to worry, the situation is just and the trend is favorable, and I can achieve a great victory.

世空自退無相敵，應空彼避不相徵。如世爻逢旬空，乃自己理屈心辰有始無終而已，但得天乙青龍天喜吉神動扶，當有維持之力，若值兄鬼兩動，必要破財。應爻落空，乃虎頭蛇尾之事，彼必漸退，訟無了結。世應兩空，則彼此甘休，官父並衰，乃公私盡釋。

The World Line falls into emptiness, indicating that I am yielding and have no intention to oppose; the Response Line falling into emptiness means the other party is avoiding and not coming to dispute. If the World Line meets the ten-day emptiness, it suggests I am at fault and feeling uneasy, and the matter will start but not finish. However, if the Heavenly Ethical God, Azure Dragon, and Heavenly Joy gods are activated to support it, there may still be someone mediating. If both the Siblings and Official Ghost lines are active, then there will certainly be financial loss. If the Response Line falls into emptiness, the matter will end in a half-hearted manner, with the other party gradually withdrawing and the case being dropped. If both the World and Response Lines fall into emptiness, both parties will be willing to give up; if both the Official Ghost and Parents lines are weak, then both public affairs and personal grievances will be settled together.
