Charting guides: Liu Yao Divination Chart, Da Yan Yarrow Stalk Divination

This chapter focuses on "Wealth" and uses "Fortune Virtue" and "Children" as references. The original text says: first examine the success or failure of sericulture, then look at the price of mulberry leaves. In a divination about sericulture, only the third and fourth lines are used to determine the price of mulberry leaves; in a divination specifically about mulberry leaves, only the "Wealth" line is considered. If the "Wealth" line is prosperous and strong and supports the "World Line" or overcomes it, the price of mulberry leaves will be as valuable as gold; if the "Wealth" line is weak and is overcome by the "World Line," the price will be as cheap as white earth. In a divination about sericulture that also includes mulberry leaves, look at the third and fourth lines: if these lines are associated with "Official Ghost," the price of mulberry leaves will certainly be high, and if they are prosperous, the price will be even higher; if the third and fourth lines do not encounter the "Official Ghost" image or are in a weak and confined state, the price of mulberry leaves for the year will certainly be low. In a divination specifically about mulberry leaves, do not consider the third and fourth lines, only examine the "Wealth" line: if the "Wealth" line is strong, the price will be high; if the "Wealth" line is weak, the price will be thin; if the "Wealth" line is empty, the price will be very low; if the "Wealth" line is held by the "World Line" or overcomes the "World Line," the price will certainly be as valuable as gold; if the "World Line" or the "Month Builder" overcomes the "Wealth" line, the price will be as cheap as dust.

The text says: If the wife's wealth changes into brothers or official ghosts, or if children change into parents, the price starts heavy and ends light; if the wife's wealth transforms into 'fortune virtue' or children, or if official ghosts transform into wife's wealth, the price starts light and ends heavy. If the wife's wealth is in a favorable position, the current price is high; but if it changes into brothers, or into official signs, or is transformed into a tomb or dead position, the later price will not be as good as before. If the wife's wealth transforms into children, or changes into growth or prosperity positions, the price will definitely rise day by day, becoming extremely valuable. Even if there is no wife's wealth in the hexagram, as long as official ghosts or children transform into water signs, it also indicates that the price starts low and ends high.

The useful god reaching the dead position, or the wealth element on a dead day, will certainly result in minimal profit; when the main aspect is in a prosperous and strong state and receives support, the price of leaves will return to a high level. To know which day the price of leaves is expensive or rises, focus on the wealth element: if the wealth element is on a dead day, a failed day, an end day, or if the day is occupied by siblings, the price will definitely be low; if the wealth element is on a birth day or a prosperous day, or if the day is occupied by children, the price will be high. If the divination is about the price within a single day, then determine it based on the changes throughout the hours. The text says: when the seller comes for divination, focus on the 'children'; when the buyer comes for divination, the 'siblings' hold power. When the seller comes for divination, the wealth element must be strong: if the wealth element generates the world, is in a prosperous state, overcomes the world, or holds the world, and if the children are activated and reinforce this, the price will certainly be high. When the buyer comes for divination, the wealth element must be weak: if the siblings hold the world or are activated, the buyer can certainly purchase at a low price, spending little. The text also says: if the inner trigram is strong and the outer trigram is weak, one can buy elsewhere; if the inner trigram is weak and the outer trigram is strong, one should plan within the local area.

The inner trigram and the native hexagram both represent the local area; the outer trigram together with the foreign hexagram should be viewed as elsewhere. If the inner trigram is strong, or the native hexagram is strong, or the wealth trigram is in the inner trigram's native hexagram, then the local price is high, and it is suitable to buy elsewhere. If the outer trigram is strong, or the foreign hexagram is strong, or the wealth trigram is in the outer trigram's foreign hexagram, then the distant area is more expensive, and buying locally is more appropriate. If both the inner and outer trigrams are weak or both are strong, then the prices in both near and far areas are the same. The original text says: if the native hexagram has a wealth trigram but the changing hexagram does not, then one should delay buying. If the native hexagram does not have a wealth trigram but the changing hexagram does, then one should delay selling. If the wealth trigram in the native hexagram is strong but the changing hexagram does not have a wealth trigram, then the leaves should be sold early. If the native hexagram does not have a wealth trigram but the changing hexagram produces one, then the leaves must be sold later. The original text also says: if the wealth trigram belongs to fire, the price of the leaves will definitely rise early in the day and again in the evening; if the wealth trigram belongs to water, the price will definitely decrease gradually and fall gradually. The price of the leaves is mainly determined by the wealth trigram. In general, when the wealth trigram is in its season and timely, it is expensive; when it is out of season and not timely, it is cheap. Selling mulberry leaves is usually done around April, so the wealth trigram should be in the fire element. Even if the divination was done in the previous winter, as long as the wealth trigram is of the fire element, although it may currently be in a state of weakness and confinement, by early summer of the following year, the fire trigram will naturally be strong and timely, how could the price of the leaves not be high? If this chapter is well understood, then the price of mulberry leaves can be clearly known.

Chapter Sixty: Divination on Domesticated Animals and Livestock

This chapter takes the "Children" line as the main focus, using the six lines of the hexagram and the zodiac signs as references. The original text says: all flying birds prefer the "Children" line to be prosperous and strong; all kinds of land animals also benefit from the flourishing of "Fortune Virtue." When divining various birds and animals, one should look at the "Children" line. If the "Children" line is prosperous and strong and receives support, the livestock will certainly grow well and be easy to raise; if it falls under the旬空 (ten-day void) or Month Breaker (month breaker), there will certainly be losses. The original text says: the first line represents a chicken, the second line a dog, the third line a pig, the fourth line a sheep, the fifth line a cow, and the sixth line a horse; ducks share the position of chickens, and cats share the position of dogs. For livestock that have been raised for a short period, only the fixed positions of the sixth line are used for divination; for animals raised for many years, one should refer to the Eight Trigrams to determine their respective positions: Qian represents a horse, Kun represents a cow, Zhen represents a dragon, Kan represents a pig, Dui represents a sheep, Gen represents a dog, Li represents a pheasant, and Xun represents a chicken. In addition, one should also consider the zodiac signs to determine the prosperity of the livestock's wealth. Furthermore, there are additional pairings:亥 (Hai) corresponds to fish, 酉 (You) corresponds to chickens, 午 (Wu) corresponds to deer, and 寅 (Yin) corresponds to cats. All domesticated animals have their own positions in the six lines: the first line represents chickens, ducks, and geese; the second line represents dogs and cats; the third line represents pigs; the fourth line represents sheep; the fifth line represents cows; and the sixth line represents horses, donkeys, and mules. For animals raised for a few months, one should look at the fixed positions of the six lines; for animals raised for more than five years, one should use the Eight Trigrams for divination.

The eight trigrams are associated with specific animals: Qian (Heaven) corresponds to the horse, Kun (Earth) corresponds to the ox, Kan (Water) corresponds to the pig, Zhen (Thunder) corresponds to the dragon and the rabbit, Dui (Lake) corresponds to the sheep, Gen (Mountain) corresponds to the dog and the bird, Li (Fire) corresponds to the pheasant, and Xun (Wind) corresponds to the chicken. Regardless of the length of time an animal is raised, it is essential to consider the animal sign of the yao (line). The animal signs are: Zi (rat), Chou (ox), Yin (tiger), Mao (rabbit), Chen (dragon), Si (snake), Wu (horse), Wei (sheep), Shen (monkey), You (chicken), Xu (dog), and Hai (pig). To further examine the method of "Yan Qin" (evolving animals), which is a system that pairs the sixty jiazi (heavenly stems and earthly branches) with animals. The same earthly branch may correspond to different animals depending on the paired heavenly stem, so both the heavenly stem and earthly branch must be considered together. For example, Ding Hai corresponds to the pig, and Gui Hai corresponds to the fish, so the fish is associated with the Hai position. Ding You corresponds to the chicken, Ji You corresponds to the chicken, and Gui You corresponds to the crow, so birds are associated with the You position. Bing Wu corresponds to the horse, Wu Wu corresponds to the civet, and Ren Wu corresponds to the deer, so civet and deer are associated with the Wu position. Bing Yin corresponds to the tiger, Ren Yin corresponds to the leopard, and Wu Yin corresponds to the cat, so the cat is associated with the Yin position.

Six yao are positioned and divided among the eight trigrams. If they are not in empty positions, not affected by conflict, and are prosperous and strong, they are auspicious. If the yao corresponding to the person's zodiac animal is in the position of siblings, official ghost, or is in an empty position, it is inauspicious. If the yao in the division of trigrams is in the position of ten empty, month breaker, or day branch conflict, it is not good. If the yao is in the position of official ghost or siblings, livestock will certainly suffer misfortune. If the yao in the position is in the position of wife's wealth or children, and is supported and prosperous, then it will certainly raise a group. As for the person's own yao, it is the one corresponding to their zodiac animal. Even if it is in an empty position, is conflicted, broken, in a dead position, or is in the position of siblings, it is not a problem. However, if it is in the position of official ghost, it will immediately result in injury or disability.

The "Parents" are consideredHostile God, and if they remain stationary or fall into an empty position, it is actually a blessing; "Wealth" represents interest, and it is favorable when it is supported or prosperous; "Siblings" are considered劫财 gods, and any movement leads to loss; "Official Ghost" is an evil spirit, and any activation brings disaster. The "Parents" beingHostile God are most suitable to remain quiet; "Wealth" representing interest requires the most support; "Siblings" as劫财 gods must be avoided from activation; "Official Ghost" as an evil spirit, even if it does not appear in the relevant宫爻 or the person's birth animal, any activation will surely bring misfortune. If both the "Siblings" and "Official Ghost" lines fall into empty positions, it is always favorable.

The text says: Cats, dogs, pigs, and sheep most dislike the White Tiger; chickens, geese, cattle, and horses only favor the Azure Dragon; when the Vermilion Bird is present with the ghost爻 and activates, worries and legal troubles arise; when the Black Tortoise brings the official爻, livestock and property may be lost. Only cats, dogs, pigs, and sheep among these four most dislike the White Tiger activating strongly; other livestock do not fear this star. When the Azure Dragon activates, everything can be raised and obtained. When the ghost爻 is present with the Vermilion Bird and activates, legal troubles are likely; when the ghost爻 is present with the Black Tortoise and activates, loss is inevitable. The text says: When the hexagram meets the Six Harmony, it is still suitable to continue raising; when the hexagram meets the Six Clashes, one must not keep the livestock. To determine the temperament of the animal, one should carefully examine the movement of the lines; to know whether it is fat or thin, look at the rise and decline of the lines. The Six Harmony lines are most suitable for raising; the Six Clashes hexagram is not suitable for keeping livestock. If the original hexagram is Six Harmony but encounters a clash in the middle, the livestock will not live long. One should always look at the lines of the respective palace and the children lines: if they activate and are accompanied by evil stars, the animal is stubborn and unruly; if they are quiet and accompanied by auspicious stars, the animal is gentle and docile. Strong lines indicate fatness, while declining lines indicate weakness.

Chapter Sixty-One: Concern and Doubt Causing Harm

This chapter discusses divination for matters of anxiety, fear, suspicion, and being harmed by others. The main focus is on the "World Line" and "Body Line" as the primary Useful Gods, with the "Children" (Fortune Virtue) as the basis. If a person lacks long-term planning, they are prone to sudden troubles arising from day to day. The "Zhou Yi" (I Ching) has been effective for a long time and can judge all past and future events. If the "World Line" falls into "Kongwang" (void), then one will not be obstructed or troubled by others. If the "Response Line" falls into a declining or exhausted position, the other party will not come to complain about the situation. If someone is falsely accused or harmed by others in official matters, the greatest danger is when the outer trigram overcomes the inner trigram, or the "Official Ghost" line becomes active. If someone is harmed secretly, the greatest danger is when the "Response Line" and "Hostile God" attack the body line, or the "Siblings" line moves and causes financial loss. To prevent being falsely accused or harmed, one should first examine the "World" and "Response" lines. If the "World Line" falls into "Kongwang", all misfortunes can be escaped. If the "Response Line" falls into "Kongwang", the other party will find it difficult to harm me. If both the "World" and "Response" lines are not in "Kongwang", then one should look at their relationships of generation and overcoming. If the "World" overcomes the "Response", or the inner trigram overcomes the outer trigram, then regardless of official or private matters, there will be no harm or damage. Conversely, if the "Response" overcomes the "World", or the outer trigram overcomes the inner trigram, one will certainly suffer from this calamity and responsibility. At this time, if the "Official Ghost" line is activated, the matter will certainly reach the court for a trial. If the "Siblings" line is active, financial losses are inevitable.

If "Children" are prosperous and strong, calamity and legal troubles will not trouble oneself; if "Official Ghost" becomes active as the main爻, how could misfortune not involve oneself? If "Month Builder" generates and supports "Official Ghost," even visiting a peaceful household may lead to unexpected troubles; if "Day Branch" restrains "Official Ghost," even accompanying the sick on their sickbed will not cause any harm. If "World Line" is prosperous and not harmed, one may go to visit the sick or inquire about lawsuits; if "Body爻" is weak and being restrained, one must not attend funerals or hold banners. All matters such as visiting the sick, inquiring about disasters, dealing with lawsuits, or fearing being attacked or harmed by enemies are most忌 to "Official Ghost." If "Children" are prosperous, or active, or located on "World Line," or supported by "Day Branch" and "Month Builder" to restrain "Official Ghost," nothing will be harmful. If "Official Ghost" becomes active, or is prosperous, or located on "World Line," or restrains "World Line," or is supported by day or month, misfortune will be brought about. If "Official Ghost" falls into "Empty亡," then all these worries need not be considered. In addition, one should also look at "World Line": if it is prosperous and meets harmony and generation, it is auspicious; if it is weak and meets conflict and restraint, it is inauspicious.

The "Official Ghost" combined with the "Six Spirits" can indicate six different kinds of calamities; when the "Official Ghost" is located in a particular trigram palace, it can distinguish the dangers in the eight directions. If the "Official Ghost" is in the same palace as the "Vermilion Bird," one should not be involved in relaying messages or delivering letters. If it is in the same position as the "Azure Dragon," one should not newly take on the role of a guarantor or matchmaker. If encountering the "Gou Chen," activities such as demolishing old houses or renovating homes may lead to illness. If encountering the "White Tiger," funeral-related activities such as making coffins may bring misfortune. If it falls on the "Teng Sha," one should beware of being involved in others' affairs. If it falls on the "Xuan Wu," one should be cautious of theft of property. By observing which spirit creature the "Official Ghost" is associated with, one can determine the nature of the calamity: if the "Official Ghost" is associated with the "Vermilion Bird," the matter often involves documents, letters, disputes, lawsuits, or visiting a place of fire and causing trouble, and one should quickly avoid such situations. If the "Official Ghost" is associated with the "Azure Dragon," the matter often arises from drinking, enjoying flowers, fulfilling vows, or visiting a wedding, yet it brings misfortune. If the "Gou Chen" brings the "Official Ghost" as an ill omen, or if one arrives at a battlefield, misfortune is inevitable. If the "Official Ghost" is associated with the "Teng Sha," it indicates supernatural disturbances, nightmares, falls, or false alarms, or may result from breaking ground and starting construction. If the "Official Ghost" is associated with the "Xuan Wu," the matter often involves thieves, latrines, waterworks, women, or illness contracted while traveling.

If the "Official Ghost" falls in the Gen palace, it is taboo to go to the northeast and also not suitable to enter forests or woods. If it falls in the Kun palace, one should not go to the southwest and should avoid visiting graves. The Zhen palace represents the east, and the Xun palace represents the southeast; if these two palaces have ghosts, one should not go to congratulate on the raising of a house beam. The Dui palace represents the west, and the Qian palace represents the northwest; if these two palaces have ghosts, one should not go to the altar for reciting scriptures or holding religious discussions. If the Kan palace has a ghost, it is taboo to go to the north or near rivers and waterbanks; if the Li palace has a ghost, it is taboo to go to the south or near furnaces, forges, and kilns.

The "Official Ghost" in the Guan (Gèn) Palace moves, indicating misfortune originating from the Northeast, possibly related to mountains, forests, tombs, or involving the youngest son and dogs. It may also be connected to activities such as quarrying stone or gathering firewood. The "Official Ghost" in the Kun (Kūn) Palace moves, indicating misfortune originating from the Southwest, possibly related to tombs or wastelands, or involving elderly women, cloth, dogs, and cattle. It may also be connected to activities such as building walls or breaking ground. The "Official Ghost" in the Zhen (Zhèn) Palace moves, indicating misfortune originating from the East, possibly related to construction projects, trees, and boats, or involving the eldest son, or matters related to timber and boat planks. The "Official Ghost" in the Xun (Xùn) Palace moves, indicating misfortune originating from the Southeast, possibly related to construction and wind conditions, or involving the eldest daughter, chickens, or bamboo, reeds, and flowers. The "Official Ghost" in the Dui (Duì) Palace moves, indicating misfortune originating from the West, possibly related to monasteries, nuns, water management, and taverns, or involving young women, sheep, witches, and concubines, or activities such as reciting scriptures and burning incense. The "Official Ghost" in the Qian (Qián) Palace moves, indicating misfortune originating from the Northwest, possibly related to temples, monks, and tall buildings, or involving gold and jade, elderly men with white hair, horses and donkeys, and city walls, or activities such as reading scriptures and discussing teachings. The "Official Ghost" in the Kan (Kǎn) Palace moves, indicating misfortune originating from the North, possibly related to rivers and lakes, thieves, and prison gates, or involving the second son, pigs, and swine, or matters related to ditches, pits, ponds, and wells. The "Official Ghost" in the Li (Lǐ) Palace moves, indicating misfortune originating from the South, possibly related to stoves, kilns, and fortune-tellers, or involving the second daughter, or matters related to gunpowder and shooting stars.

The "Official Ghost" is in the Monkey and Rooster signs, so one should avoid attending funerals or visiting mourning households, and also avoid military campaigns. When it is in the Tiger and Rabbit signs, one should be cautious of cutting down trees and also be wary of starting construction projects. The "Official Ghost" belongs to the Water element, causing worry about traveling by water. Hidden fire is considered a ghost, causing concern about moving through areas where fires have broken out. When the "Official Ghost" is in the Dragon and Dog signs, one should avoid climbing mountains or crossing hills. When it is in the Ox and Goat signs, one should avoid visiting cemeteries and graveyards. In general, if the "Official Ghost" is of the Metal element, one should avoid mourning households, military campaigns, and slaughtering. If it is of the Wood element, one should avoid construction and cutting down trees. If it is of the Water element, one should avoid rivers, ponds, wells, and bathhouses. If it is of the Fire element, one should avoid areas where fires may cause burns and places like kilns and furnaces. If it is of the Earth element, one should avoid mountains and forests, wastelands, and cemeteries. If the "Official Ghost" does not activate, then these concerns are not necessary. Additionally, one should look at which line and which palace the "Official Ghost" falls into, and determine which direction should be avoided. For example, if the "Official Ghost" is in the "Earth" palace, one can conclude that going to the Southwest will bring misfortune, and the same logic applies to the other palaces.

The "Official Ghost" once activated will certainly bring calamity, even if it does not clash with the "World Line" or "Body Line," it is still not a good omen; although the "Official Ghost" being still will not cause major problems, once it harms the "World Line," it will definitely lead to danger. If it forms the situation of "following the Official into the tomb," everything will be difficult and unsmooth (the original text has a missing character here); if it forms the situation of "helping the Ghost to injure the body," everything will be full of obstacles. Any "Official Ghost" line, regardless of which line or which hexagram it falls on, once activated will bring misfortune; even if it does not clash with the "World Line" or harm the "Body Line," once it is activated, there will be no avoiding disaster. For example, if the hexagram "No" is drawn, the fourth line, which is the fire "Official Ghost," alone activates. The previous warnings about avoiding fire and avoiding kilns and furnaces are indeed important, but one should not be so rigid as to suspect even going north along waterways. Once the "Official Ghost" moves, danger is everywhere, and there is no need to further distinguish directions such as southeast or northwest. If the "Official Ghost" is still, it will never cause trouble; but if it clashes with the "World Line," even when still, it can still bring disaster. Any situation where the "World Line," "Body Line," or the line representing one's birth year "follows the Official into the tomb," or forms the situation of "helping the Ghost to injure the body," everything will certainly not be favorable.

When the "Useful God" moves and produces the "Official Ghost," calamity will arrive quickly; but when the "Official Ghost" moves and transforms into "Children," the misfortune will be secretly resolved. If the "World Line" carries the "Official Ghost," even with auspicious stars flourishing, there will still be harm; if the hexagram contains no "Official Ghost," even if malevolent stars move, they will never harm anyone. If the "Official Ghost" does not move and does not affect the "World Line," the hexagram is originally peaceful and auspicious, but if the "Useful God" moves and produces the "Official Ghost," misfortune will occur. If the "Official Ghost" moves but transforms into "Children," it certainly indicates a transition from misfortune to good fortune, and the troubles will naturally dissipate. Even if the "Official Ghost" does not move, as long as it is on the "World Line," even with auspicious deities like "Heavenly Joy" and "Nobleman," the calamity will be difficult to resolve. If the hexagram contains no "Official Ghost," or if the "Official Ghost" falls into "Empty Wasteland," then even if malevolent stars like "Vermilion Bird" and "White Tiger" move as heavy lines, there will be no harm. In matters of worry and doubt, if the "Official Ghost" does not touch the "World Line," does not affect the "World Line," and does not move, and if the "Children" are prosperous and do not produce the "Official Ghost," such a hexagram definitely has no misfortune. If a person wishes to seek good fortune and avoid misfortune, and casts a hexagram before the matter is decided, it is precisely to resolve doubts and clarify whether to act or to stop. If the mind is sincere in prayer, the question asked will certainly have a response.

Chapter Sixty-Two: Preventing Evil and Avoiding Litigation

This chapter discusses divination concerning the prevention of disputes and avoiding lawsuits, with the "Official Ghost" as the main useful god and the "Vermilion Bird" as the evidence. Those who often consult divination and worry about getting involved in lawsuits should pay particular attention to whether the "Official Ghost" is in "Empty" or "Terminal" positions. If the "Children" move or the "Azure Dragon" is active, there will be no unexpected incidents. However, if the "Official Ghost" is strong and the "Vermilion Bird" is noisy, a lawsuit will certainly arise. To determine whether there is a lawsuit, one must examine the "Official Ghost" line. If the "Official Ghost" falls into "Empty" or is in "Terminal" position, or does not appear in the hexagram, there will be no disputes or lawsuits. Even if the hexagram contains the "Official Ghost," as long as the "Children" move or are on the "World Line," there will never be a lawsuit. If the "Official Ghost" is accompanied by the "Azure Dragon," there will also be no unexpected misfortune. However, if the "Official Ghost" is in the "Vermilion Bird" position and is active, litigation will certainly arise. If the "Official Ghost" transforms into the "Children," it indicates encountering misfortune but ultimately leading to good fortune.

The 'Official Ghost' on 'Tengshe' indicates being involved in a lawsuit due to being implicated. The 'Official Ghost' on 'Xuanwu' suggests trouble arising from a woman or a thief. The 'Official Ghost' on 'Baohu' indicates a case involving injuries and a determination of guilt or innocence. The 'Official Ghost' on 'Gou Chen' suggests disputes over land property and arguments over who is right or wrong. When 'Tengshe' with 'Official Ghost' is activated, one is either implicated in a legal case or troubled by rascals and villains. When 'Xuanwu' with 'Official Ghost' is activated, the trouble comes from a woman, possibly due to theft or disputes over water resources. When 'Baohu' with 'Official Ghost' is activated, the matter involves mourning clothes or injuries from weapons like swords and sticks. When 'Gou Chen' with 'Official Ghost' is activated, the trouble originates from land property, possibly involving government officials or debt-related lawsuits.

A song verse also says: one must also investigate which type of line has changed into "Official Ghost," thus determining the origin of the dispute. If "Children" (Fortune Virtue) changes into "Official Ghost," the dispute arises from the younger generation or from monks, Taoists, musicians, or entertainment. If "Wealth" changes into "Official Ghost," the dispute involves a woman or servant, or arises from business dealings or trade. If "Siblings" changes into "Official Ghost," the cause is disputes among brothers or friends, or gambling. If "Parents" changes into "Official Ghost," the cause is from elders, documents, clothing, land, or boats. If "Official Ghost" changes into "Official Ghost," it indicates a reopening of an old case; if the changed line falls into "Empty" position, it is no longer considered. To determine the cause and person involved in the dispute, one should look at which line has changed into "Official Ghost": if "Children" changes into "Official Ghost," the dispute arises from the younger generation, or from monks, physicians, musicians, vows, animals, or drinking and singing. If "Wealth" changes into "Official Ghost," the dispute arises from a woman, or from servants, trade, property, or grain. If "Siblings" changes into "Official Ghost," the dispute arises from brothers, or from cousins, friends, or colleagues, as well as intermediaries, guarantors, or matchmakers; if "Vermilion Bird" is also present, it indicates a dispute arising from gambling. If "Parents" changes into "Official Ghost," the dispute arises from elders, or from documents, houses, boats, clothes, or tombs. If "Official Ghost" changes into "Official Ghost," the dispute arises from an old case, or it indicates disputes from both sides, or involves three courts, or a case that has been settled but is refiled. The above reasoning about the Six Relations applies only if the "Official Ghost" changed by "Official Ghost" exactly falls into "Empty" position, in which case it is no longer considered according to the previous statements.

The "Official Ghost" in the "Fire" hexagram is activated, originating from the second daughter; the "Official Ghost" in the "Mountain" hexagram is activated, originating from the youngest son; all other hexagrams are judged in the same way. Each hexagram governs a category of people and a category of objects. By combining people and objects, the origin of disputes becomes clear. If the six lines remain undisturbed, there is no connection to disputes. The "Official Ghost" in the "Fire" hexagram being activated indicates disputes related to the second daughter, such as those involving firecrackers, stoves, magicians, or written documents. The "Official Ghost" in the "Mountain" hexagram being activated indicates disputes related to the youngest son, such as those involving mountains, tombs, dogs, or livestock. The "Official Ghost" in the "Heaven" hexagram being activated indicates disputes related to an elderly man, such as those involving temples, monks, city walls and towers, or donkeys and horses. The "Official Ghost" in the "Water" hexagram being activated indicates disputes related to the second son, such as those involving rivers and lakes, bandits, water management, or pigs. The "Official Ghost" in the "Thunder" hexagram being activated indicates disputes related to the eldest son, such as those involving construction, trees, and boats. The "Official Ghost" in the "Wind" hexagram being activated indicates disputes related to the eldest daughter, such as those involving flowers, bamboo, sailing, and chickens. The "Official Ghost" in the "Earth" hexagram being activated indicates disputes related to an old woman, such as those involving dividing burial grounds, wastelands, cattle, cloth, and large carts. The "Official Ghost" in the "Lake" hexagram being activated indicates disputes related to a young woman, such as those involving monasteries, nuns, water management, wine shops, and sheep. If there is no dispute, and the "Official Ghost" is weak and still, with the "Vermilion Bird" also remaining still, there will be no disputes. In summary, the "Official Ghost" is the root of disputes, and the "Vermilion Bird" is the sound of disputes. If the root remains still and the sound does not arise, disputes naturally do not occur.

Chapter Sixty-Three: Fire Prevention and Avoiding Flames

This chapter discusses divination for fire prevention and disaster avoidance. When considering auspicious times, the "Children" (子孙) is the useful god (用神). When considering inauspicious times, the "Official Ghost" (官鬼) serves as the useful god and the basis for judgment. When divining about a fire, only the "Official Ghost"爻 is used to seek the cause. If the "Official Ghost" moves and becomes the main爻, and it overcomes the "World Line" (世爻), disaster from fire is imminent. If the "World Line" encounters the "Official Ghost," the fire starts from within the house. If the "Response Line" (应爻) encounters the "Official Ghost," the fire starts from the neighbor's house. If the inner trigram contains the "Official Ghost," the concern is for the family's own house. If the outer trigram contains the "Official Ghost," the concern is for the neighborhood. To determine from which direction the fire originates, use the eight trigrams to identify the eight directions: if the "Official Ghost" is in the "Mountain" (艮) trigram, the fire starts from the northeast. If the "Official Ghost" is in the "Fire" (离) trigram, the fire burns in the due south.

Divination for fire disasters only requires examining the "Official Ghost" (官鬼). If the "Official Ghost" is activated, there will be fire calamity. As long as it does not harm the "World Line" (世爻), "Body Line" (身爻), and the Inner Trigram (内卦), even though there is a ghost image, there is no harm. If the "Official Ghost" harms the "Residence Line" (宅爻) or harms the "World Line," it is difficult to avoid fire. If the "Official Ghost" moves on the "World Line," the fire starts from one's own home; if the "Official Ghost" moves on the "Response Line" (应爻), the disaster starts from the neighbor's house. If the Inner Trigram or the "Official Ghost" of the same trigram is activated, the misfortune stays within one's own home; if the "Official Ghost" of another trigram or the "Official Ghost" in the Outer Trigram (外卦) is activated, the fire comes from the neighborhood. Then look at which trigram the "Official Ghost" is activated in, and determine which direction the fire is most intense. If the "Official Ghost" is activated in the "Heaven" (乾) trigram, disaster starts from the Northwest. If the "Official Ghost" is activated in the "Water" (坎) trigram, disaster starts from the North. If the "Official Ghost" is activated in the "Mountain" (艮) trigram, disaster starts from the Northeast. If the "Official Ghost" is activated in the "Thunder" (震) trigram, disaster starts from the East. If the "Official Ghost" is activated in the "Wind" (巽) trigram, disaster starts from the Southeast. If the "Official Ghost" is activated in the "Fire" (离) trigram, disaster starts from the South. If the "Official Ghost" is activated in the "Earth" (坤) trigram, disaster starts from the Southwest. If the "Official Ghost" is activated in the "Lake" (兑) trigram, disaster starts from the West. If the "Official Ghost" is present in the hexagram but not activated, then there is no need to consider it in this way.

If "Official Ghost" falls into "Empty Wasteland" or is in "Terminal Ground," there will be no fire; if it is quiet and weak and confined, fire will not trouble. If "Children" move to injure "Official Ghost," the disaster will be immediately extinguished; if "Children" (Fortune Virtue) is on "World Line," the fire will naturally subside. If "Official Ghost" is secretly triggered and then injures "Body Line," there may be a hidden revenge from an enemy. If the hexagram has no "Official Ghost," or even if it does, but it falls into "Empty Wasteland" or "Terminal Ground," there will certainly be no fire disaster. If there is "Official Ghost" in the lines, as long as it is weak and quiet and does not injure "World Line," there will be no harm. If "Children" move in the hexagram, or if "Children" is on "World Line," or if "Official Ghost" is restrained by the sun and moon, the fire disaster will certainly be secretly eliminated. Although "Official Ghost" is still, if it is triggered by moving line or by "Day Branch," and this "Official Ghost" together with "Response Line" injures "World Line," it is likely that an enemy deliberately set fire, so precautions must be taken. To ask about fire disaster, "Official Ghost" must be weak and confined, not moving, and not injuring "World Line," then there will be no fire disaster.

Chapter Sixty-Four: Preventing Bandits

This chapter discusses divination for detecting thieves, using "Official Ghost" as the main useful god and "Black Tortoise" as the evidence. If "Children" are prosperous and strong, "Official Ghost" is empty, and "Black Tortoise" is still, then doors and windows left open will never bring trouble. However, if "Black Tortoise" moves and "Official Ghost" activates, and there is also a distant moving line supporting it, even if walls are strong, theft will still occur. Whether there are thieves or not depends entirely on the "Official Ghost" line: if "Official Ghost" falls into "Empty Wasteland" or does not appear in the hexagram, and "Black Tortoise" does not move, there will certainly be no thieves. Even if the hexagram contains "Official Ghost," as long as it does not meet "Black Tortoise" or does not become a heavy line, thieves will not come. Although "Official Ghost" may activate, if "Black Tortoise" does not move, and "Children" activate or meet the world line, things will not be lost. If both "Children" and "Official Ghost" move, we need to look at their strength: if "Children" are strong and "Official Ghost" is weak, there is no need to worry; if "Children" are weak and "Official Ghost" is strong, thieves will be hard to prevent. If both "Black Tortoise" and "Official Ghost" move, and there is a moving line supporting "Official Ghost," or the sun and moon support "Official Ghost," then even if the house is very strong, it will still be vulnerable to theft through walls. If "Official Ghost" transforms into "Children," even if theft occurs, it will certainly be captured and recovered.

If the "Official Ghost" is in a month of growth or prosperity, or receives support, then thieves will come in that month. If "Xuanwu" is the heavy line but there is no "Official Ghost" in the hexagram, it is just empty talk and not to be worried about. In the "Gen" trigram, the "Official Ghost" should be guarded against in the Northeast direction; in the "Kan" trigram, guard against the North; in the "Li" trigram, guard against the South. These are all based on the same principle. To know when thieves will come, look at the month when the "Official Ghost" is in "Changsheng" (growth), "Diwang" (prosperity), or receives support, and also consider the month's branch. For example, if the hexagram is "Mingyi" and the fourth line, which is earth "Official Ghost," is active, earth needs fire to generate it, so guard against May. The "Changsheng" of earth is in Shen, so also worry about July. If the "Official Ghost" is on Chou earth, then December is the time. All other hexagrams should be analyzed in the same way.

The "Black Tortoise" has already activated, but the "Official Ghost" is exactly in "Tens of Days Void," meaning although the thief has formed the intention to steal, he will ultimately not come to commit the crime. To know where the thief is hiding, look at the position of the "Official Ghost" in the hexagrams: if the "Official Ghost" is in the "Heaven" hexagram, the thief is in the northwest or in temples and monasteries; if it is in the "Water" hexagram, the thief is hiding by the water source or in the north; if it is in the "Mountain" hexagram, the thief is in the northeast or in the mountains and forests; if it is in the "Thunder" hexagram, the thief is hidden in the east or near the trees, if not under the trees, then near the boatyards or timber shops; if it is in the "Wind" hexagram, the thief is in the southeast, definitely near the bamboo groves or haystacks; if it is in the "Fire" hexagram, the thief is in the south, if not near the kilns, then definitely in the homes of silversmiths, copperworkers, or blacksmiths; if it is in the "Earth" hexagram, the thief is in the southwest, if not in the graveyard, then definitely in the desolate fields; if it is in the "Lake" hexagram, the thief comes from the western path, or is near the fishponds and pavilions, or near small temples and shrines. The key point of this passage is: the thief's location is determined by the hexagram where the "Official Ghost" resides to determine the direction, and then by the object associated with that hexagram to determine the hiding place. By confirming the direction and the object, the pursuit can be traced effectively.

In the hexagram, although there are many "Official Ghosts" but they remain unmoving, while "Black Tortoise" and "Vermilion Bird" both rise up together. Also, the "Siblings" line transforms into "Official Ghosts," which indicates someone who lost money through gambling and then turned to theft. When "Black Tortoise" is on "Wealth" and transforms into "Official Ghosts," it is either a relative of the wife or concubine, or a servant from the household. If "Black Tortoise" is on "Children" and transforms into "Official Ghosts," one should be cautious of the younger generation or monks and Taoists stealing. If "Black Tortoise" is on "Parents" and transforms into "Official Ghosts," one should beware of being deprived by elders or being robbed by an unsuccessful scholar. If "Black Tortoise" and "Official Ghosts" transform into "Official Ghosts" again, it is certainly a habitual thief. If the "Official Ghosts" line of "Black Tortoise" also carries "White Tiger," it indicates someone in mourning. If the "Official Ghosts" within the hexagram and those transformed are located in the "Empty Wasteland" or a sinking position, they should not be considered as thieves.

Chapter 65: The Chapter on Avoiding Calamities and Evading Misfortunes

This chapter discusses divination regarding resistance and avoidance of calamities and diseases. When assessing auspicious times, the "Children" (子孙) is the main useful god (用神). When assessing inauspicious times, the "Official Ghost" (官鬼) serves as the basis. Preventing disasters and avoiding dangers most strongly avoids the "Official Ghost"爻. If it is quiet and weak and confined (休囚), it will not bring misfortune. If it meets strength or is supported by other elements, calamity will soon arise. If it is not in the upper trigram (上卦) or falls into the "empty void" (空亡), the illness will be secretly resolved. As long as it does not harm the "body爻" and the "world line爻" (世爻), there will be no disease or harmful influences. If it becomes active as a heavy爻, disaster will be difficult to avoid. If the "day branch" (日辰) or "month builder" (月建) controls it, the misfortune will naturally dissipate. When the "Children" becomes active, evil spirits and malevolent influences will immediately be eliminated. When divining whether one has a disease, one should carefully examine the "Official Ghost". If the "Official Ghost" meets strength or is vigorous, disaster will certainly appear soon. If it falls into the "empty void" or is not present in the hexagram at all, it will never cause harm. If the "Official Ghost" becomes active, how can disaster not arise? However, as long as it does not harm the "world line爻" and the "body爻", there will ultimately be no illness or misfortune. Even if the "Official Ghost" becomes active, if it can be simultaneously activated by the "Children", or if the "Children" is located at the "day branch" or "month builder", or if the "Children" occupies the "world line爻", myriad troubles will be secretly resolved. If the hexagram does not contain the "Official Ghost", there will be no disaster.

When a line transforms into "Official Ghost," it indicates that the corresponding person is being offended. If someone's birth branch is adjacent to "Official Ghost," they will suffer misfortune. Further, by examining which of the six relations is being restrained, we can determine the severity of the illness. To assess whether the whole family is ill, first identify each person's "Useful God." If the "Parents" line transforms into "Official Ghost," the parents will suffer. If the "Siblings" line transforms into "Official Ghost," the brothers and sisters will be affected. If the "Children" line transforms into "Official Ghost," the children will be harmed. If "Wealth" is the Useful God and transforms into "Official Ghost," the wife or servant will be ill. If "Official Ghost" transforms into itself, the whole family will be affected. If the "World Line" transforms into "Official Ghost," the illness is on oneself. If the "Response Line" is "Official Ghost," the wife or concubine will be troubled. Also, check if the person's birth branch is adjacent to "Official Ghost," as this will definitely bring disaster. For example, if a hexagram has a fire line with "Official Ghost," it indicates that those born in the horse sign will be affected, and other zodiac signs can be similarly analyzed. If "Official Ghost" falls in "Empty Wasteland," this method does not apply. Additionally, check if any of the six relations are harmed: if "Wealth" is active, the elders will be worried; if "Official Ghost" is active, the brothers will be affected; if "Siblings" is active, the wife will be ill; if "Parents" is active, the children will suffer. If the wife is the one consulting, then an active "Children" line indicates the husband will be affected. For other types of questions, a thriving "Children" line indicates health. To determine if there is illness, if the "Taboo God" is not active, "Official Ghost" is not the main line, and the "Useful God" is not in "Ten Empty" or "Month Breaker," then it can be concluded as safe.

Chapter 66: Where Did the Illness Originate?

This chapter discusses the origin of illness, using the "Official Ghost" line as the main reference and the moving line as the basis. To determine where the calamity originates, one must accurately identify the direction of the activated line; if all six lines are still, then the outer trigram can be used for interpretation. If the "Official Ghost" is not present in the hexagram, one should look within the corresponding palace. To determine where the "Official Ghost" is hidden, one should examine the "Flying God" that is above it, thereby identifying the source of the illness. For example, if the hexagram is "Family," and the "Official Ghost" is hidden under the third line, which is Xinyou metal, then one should look at the "Flying God" above it, which is Jihai water, and conclude that the illness is caused by an offense in the northwest. If both the "Flying God" and the hidden "Official Ghost" fall into "Kongwang" (void), then the body will not be disturbed by evil spirits.

When divining about illness, one should determine from which direction the illness originates, and also check which direction is conflicting with the ghostly influences. Regardless of whether the hexagram contains the 'Official Ghost' (官鬼), if there is a moving line (动爻), then use the moving line to determine the direction: if a fire line moves, it indicates the south; if a water line moves, it indicates the north. If all six lines are still and the hexagram contains the 'Official Ghost', then use the outer trigram (外卦) to determine the direction: if the outer trigram is 'Wind' (巽), the disaster originates from the southeast; if the outer trigram is 'Heaven' (乾), the calamity comes from the northwest. If the hexagram is both still and does not contain the 'Official Ghost', then do not use the outer trigram, but instead look for where the 'Official Ghost' is hidden beneath a line, and use the 'Flying God' (飞神) that is above it to determine the direction. For example, in the hexagram 'Strife' (讼), if all six lines are still and the 'Official Ghost' is hidden beneath the third line, which is a fire line (午火), then the illness originates from the south. Another example is the hexagram 'Retreat' (遁), where the third and sixth lines move. Since there are moving lines, use the moving lines to determine the direction: the line of the monkey (申) indicates the southwest, and the line of the dog (戌) indicates the northwest. The illness comes from only one direction, so why would there be two directions? Therefore, both should be considered together, and it is said to be from the west. Another example is the hexagram 'Retreat' where all six lines are still, and although the hexagram contains the 'Official Ghost', there are no moving lines. In this case, use the outer trigram to determine the direction, and the calamity comes from the northwest. Another example is the hexagram 'Small Accumulation' (小畜), where the first and second lines move. Although the hexagram does not contain the 'Official Ghost', the moving lines can still be used: the line of the rat (子) indicates due north, and the line of the tiger (寅) indicates the northeast. Both lines are considered together, and the direction is generally said to be the north. Another example is the hexagram 'Small Accumulation' where the first and second lines move. Since there is no 'Official Ghost', the outer trigram cannot be used, so instead look for where the 'Official Ghost' is hidden beneath the third line, and determine that the ghostly influence comes from the northwest. If the hexagram contains neither the 'Official Ghost' nor a hidden 'Official Ghost', then there is no ghostly influence at all.

The first point is to discuss again the method of interpreting when the "Official Ghost" in the eight palaces is activated. The rhyme says: When the "Official Ghost" in the "Kun" palace is activated, it indicates a collision in a graveyard or wasteland; when the "Official Ghost" in the "Gen" palace is activated, the illness starts in the mountains or forests; when the "Official Ghost" in the "Li" palace is activated, it may be due to having been near a kiln or furnace; when the "Official Ghost" in the "Qian" and "Dui" palaces is activated, it indicates a disturbance near a temple gate; when the "Official Ghost" in the "Zhen" and "Xun" palaces is activated, it suggests a path through woods and flowers; when the "Official Ghost" in the "Kan" palace is activated, it refers to a village near a river, pond, or marsh. If the "Official Ghost" is located in its own palace, it means the person has not traveled far; if the "Official Ghost" is located in another palace or direction and causes trouble, then it should be judged separately.

When the 'Official Ghost' line is active, the method of interpretation differs from the previous one (where a still line takes the outer trigram). If the 'Official Ghost' is in the 'Kun' trigram, it indicates a conflict to the southwest, or visiting a grave, or being in the fields. If it is in the 'Gen' trigram, it suggests movement to the northeast, or entering the mountains. If it is in the 'Li' trigram, it implies trouble in the south, or visiting a place where a fire occurred, or a kiln. If it is in the 'Qian' trigram (the original text mistakenly says 'Kun'), it suggests movement to the northwest, or visiting temples and shrines, or being on a high building. If it is in the 'Dui' trigram, it indicates conflict in the west, or visiting a monastery, or staying by a water source. If it is in the 'Zhen' trigram, it implies trouble in the east, or being under a tree, or riding a boat or a palanquin. If the 'Official Ghost' is in the 'Xun' trigram, it suggests movement to the southeast, or being near a bamboo grove, or staying by a pile of firewood. If it is in the 'Kan' trigram, illness comes from the north, or crossing a river or a ferry, or being caught in a sudden rain. If the 'Official Ghost' is a single active line, one should also consider the direction indicated by its earthly branch. For example, if the first line of the 'Bian' hexagram is active alone, illness originates from the east, and similar reasoning applies to other hexagrams. If the 'Official Ghost' is not a single active line, then this method is not needed. If multiple lines are active, use the previous method based on the eight trigrams. Then check whether the 'Official Ghost' is in its own trigram or in the inner trigram, indicating the disaster originates locally; if it is in the outer trigram or another trigram, then the illness originates from outside. Those who study the Yi Jing should be flexible and adaptable.

The second point is about the interpretation of the "Six Spirits" paired with "Official Ghost." The rhyme says: When "Azure Dragon" is associated with "Official Ghost," the illness arises during times of joy and happiness, or when visiting friends for a wedding, or when going to a place with trees and fragrant grass, or when disturbing someone's banquet, or when wearing flowers. When "Official Ghost" is paired with "Azure Dragon," the disaster comes from festive occasions, such as visiting relatives and friends, attending banquets and drinking, going out for a mountain tour, resting under trees, or visiting noble persons—the illness comes from these situations. The rhyme also says: When "Vermilion Bird" is associated with "Official Ghost," the illness arises from anger, and is related to disputes, lawsuits, and written documents; reading, writing, and even singing are places where misfortune may occur. When "Official Ghost" is paired with "Vermilion Bird," the disaster comes from anger, such as being involved in unjust disputes and lawsuits, having written letters or documents, encountering quarrels and noise, coming across performances and entertainment, or witnessing a fire and thus suffering misfortune.

The rhyme says: "Gou Chen" with "Official Ghost" in motion, illness is difficult to recover from, perhaps due to having been near fields or tombs, or assisting others in construction, or starting work on one's own property, mostly because of violating the taboo of breaking ground. "Official Ghost" paired with "Gou Chen," disaster comes from falling or bumping, or climbing near tombs, or walking in front or behind fields, or having worked on construction inside or outside the house, thus causing illness. The rhyme also says: If "Teng She" brings forth "Official Ghost," the illness is caused by fright or fear, or by injuring qi and blood through the seven emotions of joy, anger, worry, thought, sorrow, fear, and shock, or encountering ghosts and demons. "Official Ghost" paired with "Teng She," disaster comes from fear or anxiety, or excessive thinking, or being troubled by worries, or encountering evil spirits, thus causing illness.

The song says: "When 'White Tiger' is adjacent to 'Official Ghost,' calamity arises, which may be due to hearing nearby crying, or seeing a funeral procession passing by, or encountering weapons and slaughtering animals. When 'Official Ghost' is adjacent to 'White Tiger,' misfortune comes from sorrowful sounds, or from neighbors holding a funeral, or from a newly made friend's banquet being broken up, or entering a mourning hall, or seeing weapons, or encountering butchery—these are the sources of calamity. The song also says: 'Disease related to 'Black Tortoise' comes from the water path, which may be due to indulgence in wine and lust, or getting wet after bathing, or suffering from cold and the illness worsening. When 'Black Tortoise' is adjacent to 'Official Ghost,' disaster arises from wine and lust, or from going to rivers and lakes, or having been caught in the rain, or losing property, or being startled by thieves—these are the causes of illness, which should be carefully considered."

Chapter Sixty-Seven: On the Treatment of Measles and Scarlet Fever

This chapter discusses the appearance and resolution of measles and rashes, using "Official Ghost" (官鬼) as the main reference. When asking about whether measles will appear before they show, if the divination does not contain "Official Ghost," then the measles will not develop. If "Official Ghost" falls into "Empty" (空亡) or is in "Absolute Decline" (绝), there will be no rash. If "Official Ghost" is active and strong, then the measles will appear. When divining about measles, one must examine the "Official Ghost" line: if "Official Ghost" falls into "Empty" or is not in the upper trigram, it will definitely not appear. Even if "Official Ghost" is active in the divination, but it is weak and lacks vitality, or is dispersed, or falls into "Absolute Decline," or is transformed into a line that overcomes or cuts off it, it will not appear. If "Official Ghost" is active but not in the positions of death, decline, or injury, or if "Official Ghost" is weak but transforms into a vital state, then the measles will appear. Even if "Official Ghost" is not active, once it meets a time when it is strong and prosperous, it will still appear. If the divination does not contain "Official Ghost," but the current month's branch is exactly the one associated with "Official Ghost," then measles will still appear.

When the branch of the Heavenly Stem of the Tai Su is occupied by "Official Ghost," there will be an outbreak of smallpox that year. If the branch of the Month Builder is occupied by "Official Ghost," there will be an outbreak of smallpox that month. If "Official Ghost" is weak and confined while "Children" are prosperous and strong, the smallpox will be sparse and clear. If "Official Ghost" is prosperous and strong while "Children" (Fortune Virtue) are weak, the smallpox will be dense. If "Teng Sha" is on a fire element and becomes active, it will definitely result in both measles and smallpox occurring together, with no error. If the question is about which year smallpox will occur, look at the year when "Official Ghost" is in a favorable and strong position. If the hexagram does not contain "Official Ghost," then check which year's branch is exactly "Official Ghost." If the question is about which month smallpox will occur, determine the month when "Official Ghost" meets favorable and strong conditions. To find out the day, look at the day when "Official Ghost" is strong. The principle is basically the same, consistent throughout. If "Official Ghost" is weak and confined while "Children" are strong, or if "Children" are located at the position of the World Line, even if smallpox occurs, it will be sparse. If "Official Ghost" is strong and "Children" are weak, the smallpox will be extremely dense. Further, if "Teng Sha" is on a fire element and becomes active, even if "Official Ghost" is quiet, smallpox will definitely occur.

Chapter Sixty-Eighth: On the Authenticity of Disease Origins

This chapter distinguishes between true and false origins of illness, taking "official ghost" as the main element, and using its strength and decline as the basis. When divining about illness, if "official ghost" moves as a heavy line, the illness definitely arises; if "official ghost" is prosperous and strong, it will still suffer from the illness; if "official ghost" falls into "empty loss" or meets "decline," it is a false symptom. When determining whether there is a real illness, only the line of "official ghost" is considered, and there are no other opinions. If "official ghost" moves as a heavy line, the illness is definitely real; even if "official ghost" does not move, as long as it meets support and prosperity, it is still considered a real disaster. If the hexagram does not contain "official ghost," or if "official ghost" falls into "empty loss," or is in "decline," then it is ambiguous, and the illness is not real. If it forms the situation of "following the official ghost into burial," the disaster is real; if it forms the situation of "helping the official ghost to injure the body," the disaster will definitely arise. If "day branch" and "month builder" restrain "official ghost," the illness is real but with some falsehood; if "children" are prosperous and move, the illness is even less likely. Whenever "following the official ghost into burial" or "helping the official ghost to injure the body" occurs, the disaster is severe and difficult to avoid. To know when the illness will dissipate, look at "children": if "children" are strong and "official ghost" is weak, or if "day branch" and "month builder" directly meet "children" (fortune virtue), or if the line of "children" in the hexagram moves to restrain "official ghost," the illness can dissipate.
