Important methods of divination used in various regions of China
Fifty-Ninth, if the four colors of slickness, stickiness, dryness, and dullness appear on a person who is decisive and venturesome, it will result in hidden endurance and bearing humiliation, with anger accumulating in the chest and causing illness from blocked life qi; being startled and harmed without knowing the cause, suffering unexpected loss of money; pushing forward forcefully, seeing success near at hand, yet suddenly failing; being accustomed to luxury, losing what has already been obtained; insulting others and causing them embarrassment, accumulating shame which becomes future trouble; being too harsh in exploiting others, leading them to hold resentment and retaliate; handling funerals with negligence, causing the family's fortune to decline, and mismanaging affairs due to laziness and negligence. Sixtieth, if these four colors appear on a person who is cautious and venturesome, it will result in illness caused by internal and external factors attacking alternately, with intermittent flare-ups and recoveries; being burdened by relatives, deceived by friends, and forced to spend money by others; preventing one problem only to encounter another, gaining one thing but losing two; setting up one's own traps, getting entangled in several disputes that cannot be resolved; being indecisive, and experiencing several hardships without achieving completeness. It is evident that being decisive and venturesome differ, and when loss occurs, whether it is due to excessive caution or hasty action, it varies accordingly.
Section 61: If the four colors of slickness, stickiness, dryness, and obscurity appear on someone in a stable situation, the consequences will be illness caused by indulgence in rich and fatty foods and excessive indulgence in wine and women, leading to the invasion of evil spirits; laziness, arrogance, and slow thinking, relying on family wealth to cause financial loss; additional unexpected losses and being implicated in others' troubles; because of neglecting small matters, they are hindered by them spreading out; because of over-coddling the body, they are invaded by those who take advantage of situations. Section 62: If these four colors appear on someone in a desperate situation, the consequences will be illness of the mind caused by anger and mental strain; uncertainty in staying or leaving, sacrificing money to cope with situations; unstable circumstances where gains do not compensate for losses; indiscriminate association with friends, leading to more harm than good; disputes over rights and conflicts of opinion causing suspicion and jealousy.
Section 63: If the four colors of slickness, dryness, clarity, and obscurity appear on someone whose situation is between stability and pressure, the outcome will be that neglecting small actions leads to illness in habits; not being careful in minor matters causes gradual loss of money; a slight setback leads to unresolved worries; a small flaw causes endless worries about the future; grievances pile up, and disputes never end; close and distant relationships entangle continuously, causing endless burdens. It is evident that the difference between a stable environment and one of pressure is significant. Whether the obstruction and loss result from cause or not varies accordingly. Section 64: If these four colors appear on a person of great capacity, the outcome will be that although free from worries, they still suffer from external pathogenic factors known as the 'six yin' diseases; sacrificing minor details for the greater good leads to some minor expenses; taking a small loss or enduring a little hardship is for the sake of righteousness; experiencing minor setbacks or humiliations is due to the necessity of patience and adaptability; most disputes arise from misunderstanding, and most jealousy comes from others' unwillingness to speak more.
Section 65, if the four colors of slickness, dryness, heat and obscurity appear on a person with a narrow mind, the result will be damage to the spirit and brain, leading to nervous disorders; stubbornness and inflexibility, due to prejudice and arrogance, causing financial loss; being unable to tolerate wicked people, who in turn oppress him; being unable to endure humiliation, which in turn leads to greater humiliation; being overly concerned with small matters and thus harming greater ones, or striving for a momentary sense of pride and thus sowing the seeds of misfortune. Section 66, if these four colors appear on a person whose mind is of moderate breadth, the result will be inner restraint but inability to resolve, leading to illness due to blocked qi and blood flow; improper handling of matters, spending excessively to maintain appearances; initially being able to endure but eventually breaking down and causing legal disputes; initially refusing but eventually failing to resist and leaving future troubles; out of familial kindness, entrusting power to relatives, which results in delay; a small grudge, neglected due to carelessness. It is evident that the difference in the breadth of a person's mind leads to different degrees of harm.
Gongdu's Methods of Physiognomy, Volume Eight (Continued)
Chapter Five: The Five Phases and the Four Seasons
First, people with the wood form are slender and tall, with a straight and upright posture. A green and moist complexion is their natural color, indicating safety, as it harmonizes with the wood form. However, white and slippery colors are contrary to them and most undesirable, which is the principle of 'metal overcoming wood.' Therefore, they most fear autumn (when metal is strong), and next fear winter. Second, people with the fire form have sharp and exposed features, with an intense and fiery presence, and their bones and flesh are peculiar and prominent. A red and lively complexion is their natural color, indicating safety, as it harmonizes with the fire form. However, black and withered colors are contrary to them and most undesirable, which is the principle of 'water overcoming fire.' Therefore, they most fear winter (when water is strong), and next fear spring.
Third, people with the metal form have a square and solid body, which is flat and thick yet well-proportioned. Any white and clear coloration is the natural color of their essence, indicating safety, as it harmonizes with the metal form. The only color to be most avoided is red and crimson, which are opposite to metal and are particularly inauspicious, following the principle of 'fire overcoming metal.' Therefore, the most unfavorable time is summer (when fire is strong), followed by the months of March, June, September, and December, when earth is strong. Fourth, people with the water form have a round and thick body, which is well-proportioned, and their voice is long and resonant. Any black and moist coloration is the natural color of their essence, indicating safety, as it harmonizes with the water form. The only color to be most avoided is yellow and dull, which is particularly inauspicious, following the principle of 'earth overcoming water.' Therefore, the most unfavorable times are the months of March, June, and September when earth is strong, followed by autumn.
Fifth, people with a earthy constitution have a heavy and solid body shape, their structure is deep and profound, and their complexion tends to be turbid. Any yellow and moist color is the natural color of their essence, indicating safety, because it harmonizes with the earth element. However, green and greasy colors are most to be avoided, which is the principle of "wood overcoming earth." Therefore, spring (when wood is strong) is most to be avoided, followed by summer. Sixth, each body type has a corresponding relationship with the four seasons and the lunar months: in spring, green and moist colors are not to be avoided, and seeing them in the first and second lunar months is especially auspicious; in summer, red and dry colors are not to be avoided, and seeing them in the fourth and fifth lunar months is especially safe; in autumn, white and bright colors are not to be avoided, and seeing them in the seventh and eighth lunar months is considered a minor blessing; in winter, black and moist colors are not to be avoided, and seeing them in the tenth and eleventh lunar months is especially stable; in the third, sixth, and ninth lunar months when earth is strong, yellow and bright colors are not to be avoided, and seeing them brings especially good fortune. All these belong to the situation where the season and complexion are in harmonious and supportive relationship.
Seventhly, in reverse: in spring, white and gloomy colors are to be avoided, and their appearance in January and February is especially unfavorable; in summer, black and withered colors are to be avoided, and their appearance in April and May indicates a great misfortune or even death; in autumn, red and crimson colors are to be avoided, and their appearance in July and August indicates encountering sudden dangers and calamities; in winter, yellow and dull colors are to be avoided, and their appearance in October and the eleventh month indicates financial loss and legal troubles; in the months of third, sixth, and ninth when earth is strong, green and greasy colors are to be avoided, and their appearance indicates illness, misfortune, and decline of family fortune. These all belong to situations where the seasonal timing and color are conflicting and opposite. The above seven points are a general summary of how the five phases' forms correspond with the four seasons' colors.

Chapter Ten: Secrets of Judging by Qi and Color
First, the area around 「Heavenly Peak」 and 「Huagai」 is high and spacious, and in the art of physiognomy it is called 「High and Broad Academy」, which is the proper position for official rank. If this area shows yellow or purple, it indicates joy and celebration arriving at the door: officials may be promoted in rank and position, receive salary and achieve merit, while common people may experience an increase in wealth and an addition to family members. At this time, if there are plans to be carried out, they are generally considered secure, and one can expect about seven or eight parts of benefit. If it shows green, it indicates inner worry and depression, and uncertainty. If it shows oily and sticky color, it indicates loss and crying, and damage to family members, along with troubles from the six relations, loss in social dealings, and being secretly schemed against and suffering loss. If it shows red, it indicates losing official position and suffering financial loss, and the family falling into decline, also indicating fear and obstacles. If it shows red, it mainly indicates wearing mourning clothes, loss of family members, and danger and harm, along with lawsuits, and even being imprisoned. If it shows a dark white color, it indicates mourning, punishment, and harm to family members, or serious illness and disaster. If it shows a dark color, it indicates that all matters are not smooth, sudden misfortunes, danger and loss, and evil diseases and epidemics. When making a judgment, one must consider the current season and the relationship of generation and overcoming between the color and the season, as well as the depth and intensity of the color. Also, one must take into account the person's status and seniority to determine the extent of the matter. The same color, appearing on a person of high rank, indicates official position and authority, while appearing on a common person indicates wealth and family members.
Second, the "Zoushu" section mainly concerns the final decision on major matters and the truth of official documents and letters. At present, the appearance of yellow and purple colors indicates promotion and advancement in position, along with good news arriving, and common people will also receive favorable messages regarding wealth and profit. If the color is green but slick and sticky, it suggests difficulties for parents, delays in letters, troubles in decision-making, and being restricted by relatives. If the color is red and fiery, it indicates forming enmity with others, receiving bad news, and suffering losses due to being involved. If the color is bleak and pale, it suggests receiving news of calamity affecting family members or sudden illness. If the color is dark, dry, and withered, it indicates losing official position and power, being deprived of authority and dismissed from office, and receiving messages full of plots, danger, and alarm, along with jealousy, resentment, and even legal troubles and imprisonment. Similarly, one should judge the extent of good or bad fortune based on the intensity and depth of the color.the so-called "久暂" means whether the matter will be resolved immediately or will take a long time to conclude.
Third, the "Yintang" area is the head of the entire face, and the matters it indicates are most important. If it shows a yellow or purple color, it signifies promotion, gaining power, establishing achievements, and increasing wealth; for common people, it also indicates joyous events and a flourishing source of income. If it shows a green color and is smooth, it indicates minor losses and setbacks, inner worries, things not going as planned, wasted effort with no results, and also suggests minor illness. If it shows a red or crimson color, it indicates danger and loss, possible imprisonment or bondage, leading to injury or even death; for officials, it may result in dismissal or loss of power. If it shows a pale or dismal color, it indicates all affairs going awry, causing harm to family members, prolonged illness, and attracting jealousy and enmity. If it shows dark, dull, or obscure colors, it indicates danger, death, loss, and misfortune, as well as epidemics and imprisonment. The method of interpretation is the same as before, still determining the actual situation based on the intensity and depth of the color: lighter colors indicate smaller matters, while darker colors indicate more serious matters, which is a general rule.
Fourth, "Fu Jiao" and "Yi Ma" are the main indicators for movement and also relate to the flow of financial resources. The appearance of yellow and purple colors indicates smooth travel and the successful completion of plans, along with messages from afar bringing good news. If the color is green and slick, it suggests being delayed on the way, leading to unexpected changes, no messages from afar, or messages reporting losses or obstacles. If the color is pale and bleak, it indicates punishment or injury to parents, or the loss of an important family member. If the color is red or crimson, it suggests loss and fear during the journey, damage to goods, or being detained. If the color is black, dark, dry, or withered, it indicates danger and hidden harm, encountering bandits, or a family funeral; in such cases, it is better not to travel. The actual situation should still be judged based on the intensity and clarity of the color, as well as the person's status and experience. The greater the status, the more significant the implications of the same color.

Fifth, the "day angle" and "moon angle" on the forehead are the main positions for the parents' palace, and they also relate to official rank. If these areas show yellow and purple colors, it indicates that the parents are healthy and safe, and the person's official rank will also improve. If they appear blue and smooth, it suggests that the parents are worried and have unspoken troubles, and may even be ill or suffer misfortunes, while the person's official rank will stagnate and they will not be promoted. If they show a pale and white color, it indicates that the parents may have serious illness or disaster, possibly even death. If they appear dry and deep red, it suggests that the parents may have disputes with others and verbal conflicts, and the person may also be involved and suffer a bad reputation. If they show red and fiery colors, it indicates that the parents are in danger and may need to wear mourning clothes, and there will be major losses in the family. If they show dark, dull, and withered colors, it indicates that the parents may encounter danger or even die, and the person will lose their position and official rank, and suffer financial loss. The judgment should be made based on the intensity and depth of the color, and also consider the person's status and experience. For parents who are elderly, dangerous colors should be taken more seriously; for those in higher official positions, the loss of rank will be more severe.
Sixth, the 「Guoyin」 on the two cheeks represents the important area for authority and salary. If it shows a yellow or purple color, it indicates gaining authority and salary, and the current plans will be effective, ensuring success; it also suggests directly promoting something and gaining profit. If it shows a green color and is smooth, it indicates the parents suffering illness or misfortune, and the siblings, cousins, and uncles experiencing urgent difficulties, with the person's position slightly shaken. If it shows a pale white color, it indicates the plans will not succeed, resulting in wasted effort without any achievement. If it shows a dry and deep red color, it indicates a reduction in authority, bringing about disputes and suspicion, and rekindling old grudges. If it shows a red or crimson color, it indicates mourning and major losses, or being robbed, frightened by bandits, or imprisoned due to enmity; lighter cases may involve diseases like hemorrhoids, while severe cases may lead to a fatal outcome. If it shows dark, dry, or withered colors, it indicates financial loss, danger, misfortune, or sudden calamities, possibly even the loss of family members; even if it is less severe, it may involve internal and external troubles, disputes among the six relations, and legal troubles. The determination of fortune or misfortune should be based on the color's intensity and the person's status: for those in positions, it should be judged based on their authority; for those not in positions, it should be judged based on their home and the six relations.

The seventh point is that the nose's "Earth Star" is the specific area governing wealth. If this area shows a yellow or purple color, it indicates gaining official rank and wealth, with everything going smoothly. If it shows a green color and is moist, it suggests minor troubles and losses, with affairs encountering obstacles and even losing money that was about to be obtained. If it shows a dry and deep red color, it indicates losses from unconventional sources, often due to indulgence and entertainment leading to troubles. If it shows a red or crimson color, it suggests fire-related incidents, or a decline in family fortune and financial loss, losing official position, getting into legal trouble, being deceived, and also indicates the loss of family members. If it shows black, dark, and withered colors, these are all ominous signs, causing harm to others and financial loss; in severe cases, there may be incidents such as hanging oneself, poisoning, or drowning; in lighter cases, there may be legal disputes, verbal conflicts, illness, and misfortunes. For common people, it may indicate loss of livestock. These should be judged based on the intensity and depth of the color to determine the extent of the loss. If a pale and sorrowful color appears, it indicates the death of a cousin or close relative, and also suggests a decline and deterioration of family fortune.

If it shows a green color and is smooth, it indicates illness involving pain; when traveling by boat, there will be delays during the journey. If it shows a deep red and dry color, it indicates minor illness in the children. If it shows a red and fiery color, it indicates disaster befalling the children and loss in boat travel. If it shows dark, dry, and withered colors, it indicates danger in boat travel, loss and failure, or even robbery by bandits, or being dragged and collided into causing the boat to capsize. If it shows a pale and dismal color, it indicates the death of the nephew or甥 (cousin's son), the family's fortune declining and suffering losses, or illness caused by emotional distress. One must combine the individual's condition with the current situation for a comprehensive judgment: those traveling by boat should focus on the water route, while those staying at home should focus on the children.

If it appears green and slick, it suggests injury to the yin aspect and insomnia at night, indicating a disorder where the spirit cannot remain settled in the dwelling. If it shows dry and deep red or pale colors, it suggests the death of a paternal uncle or cousin, or internal family conflicts leading to minor losses. If it shows red or fiery colors, it indicates encountering danger, legal troubles, being deceived, or water loss and fire accidents. If it shows black, dark, dry, or withered colors, it indicates kidney deficiency and weak body, possibly leading to serious illness or even life-threatening conditions, or symptoms of venereal diseases. If there are green veins running across this area, it indicates nocturnal emissions and old diseases; in children, it suggests bedwetting and ailments like hernia and abdominal pain.
The tenth point is that the "Mingmen" area in front of the ear is the main area governing illness and misfortune, and from a medical perspective, it belongs to the kidney meridians. If this area shows yellow, purple, or white and moist colors, it indicates that there are no diseases or misfortunes in the body. If it shows a greenish color and is smooth, it indicates a minor illness that lingers and unresolved worries in the mind. If it shows red or a pale color, it indicates a serious illness with a deep-rooted condition, possibly accompanied by palpitations, loss of mental clarity, and confusion. If it shows a dark, dry, and withered color, it indicates a deadly illness—physiognomists regard this as a sign of the kidney energy being completely cut off, and it is considered incurable.

If one sees a bright and moist purple or white color, it indicates no illness and a peaceful state. If one sees a green color that is smooth and slick, it indicates a minor illness, as well as injuries involving blood or venereal diseases. If it shows red and dry or deep crimson, it indicates disputes involving speech, wasted effort in social interactions, and loss within the family with a reduction in population. If it appears red or dry and deep red, it indicates symptoms of damp-heat, as well as ailments of the hands and feet, muscle and bone aches; it also signifies internal disputes, troubles from the Six Relations, and conflicts among brothers and sisters. If this area shows yellow or purple with a smooth and moist appearance, it indicates a peaceful and safe year. If it shows a greenish color and is smooth and moist, it suggests stomach illness, difficulty in swallowing, reduced appetite, and worries and long-term anxieties in the mind. It is also important to note that when the dark and dull color is covered with a layer of dust-like spots, it indicates the time of death. If it is one step less severe, the person will die in sorrow and under very bad circumstances.

The fifteenth point: The "Jian Men" located outside the eye is the main position for the wife's palace. If this area shows a yellow or purple color, it indicates that the wife's family is experiencing joy and there is a real cause for celebration. If it appears pale and white, it suggests that there is a death in the wife's family, and the person will have to mourn for the maternal side. If it is green and slick, it indicates that the wife is often sick, suffering from a chronic illness. Therefore, the book of physiognomy says that if the Jian Men has green veins visible, the family often keeps a sick wife; the left side corresponds to the main wife, and the right side corresponds to a concubine. If both yellow and green colors appear together, it means that there is a transition from illness to joy, or joy mixed with illness. If it appears dry and deep red, it indicates arguments with the wife or secretly supporting the wife's family. If it appears red and intense, it suggests that the wife faces danger or fire, or is involved in troubles from the wife's family. If it appears dark and dry, it indicates harm to the wife or concubine. However, this only truly indicates such harm if the "Zhong Gou Chen" also shows a dark red color; otherwise, it may only mean a serious illness or disaster. If there are three or four mixed colors appearing like falling flowers, it suggests that the wife or concubine has immoral behavior, or the person has contracted a sexually transmitted disease. Conversely, if this area is yellow and bright, it indicates that the wife's family will help and bring in wealth. When examining this area, the left and right sides must be analyzed separately, and not treated as one.

The sixteenth position, the " LuoHouYao " and " JiDuYao " at the inner corners of the eyebrows, correspond to the position of the brothers' palace, and also oversee disputes and official documents. If this area shows a yellow-purple color, it indicates that brothers and sisters are safe and sound, and plans are somewhat successful; if the yellow-purple color fluctuates and becomes active, there will be good news, or official documents and appointments will arrive, and common people will receive good news about gaining wealth. If it shows a green color that is slick and smooth, it indicates being dragged down by brothers and sisters, and there will be matters that are difficult to decide. If it shows a dark white or dry and deep red color, it indicates that there is a death among brothers and sisters, and one will be involved and affected. If it shows a red or reddish color, it indicates legal disputes and being involved in troubles, being deceived and suspected, causing disputes and accusations; the right side corresponds to family matters, and the left side corresponds to external matters. If it shows a black, dark and withered color, it indicates that there is a death among brothers and sisters, and oneself will also be affected, and bad news and alarming letters will certainly follow one after another. This area corresponds to internal and external matters on both sides, with the right side corresponding to family matters and the left side corresponding to external matters.

The seventeenth point: the area around the eyebrows is the part that indicates strategic thinking. If this area shows a dark blue color that is smooth and glossy, it indicates inner worry and hesitation. If it shows a yellowish-purple color, it indicates that plans will succeed and matters will proceed smoothly, with joy among siblings. If it shows an oily, dark, dry, and dull color, it indicates disputes in social interactions, a decline in family fortune and financial loss, being secretly harmed by others, and conflicts arising from jealousy. If it shows red or black color, it indicates encountering danger or even imprisonment, or loss and mourning.

Eighteen, the area above the eyebrow known as the "Fu Tang" is the main area governing external wealth and also oversees matters related to external interactions and disputes. If this area shows a yellow or purple color, it indicates gaining external wealth, smooth financial circulation, effective social interactions, and mutual benefit in cooperation. If it appears green and slick, it suggests disputes in external dealings, suspicion from others, disagreement, and each party holding their own views. If it shows red, deep crimson, or dry and parched colors, it indicates being slandered and envied, possibly leading to legal troubles, changes in social interactions resulting in failure, and both parties suffering losses. If it appears black, dark, bleak, or withered, it signifies the risk of theft, epidemic diseases, hearing bad news, and suffering losses or decline; or being surrounded by so-called friends who indulge in pleasures and excess, leading to financial loss followed by misfortune. This area also harbors the signs of being secretly harmed by others, with the root cause lying here.

If it appears purple and dry yet still moist, it indicates the birth of a daughter. If it shows a smooth deep reddish color, it indicates excessive worry and contemplation, forming grievances with others, being suspicious and cautious, and events gradually developing in this way. If it shows a red and fiery color, it indicates being startled, suffering misfortune, getting into legal trouble, and causing decline. If it shows a dark, gloomy, and withered color, it indicates contracting a plague or severe illness leading to death, as well as punishment of children and family loss. If one sees a fine red thread-like pattern descending into the eye, it indicates encountering danger and injury, with minor cases resulting in disability, damage to skin and flesh, and injury to limbs.

The twenty-first, the "Three Yin" on the lower eyelid is also the main position for the children's palace. If this area shows a clear, bright, and moist yellowish color, it indicates the birth of a son. If it shows a purple color that is dry and rough but still bright, it indicates the birth of a daughter. If it appears slippery, dry, or dark and dull, it suggests illness or misfortune, and the children will not thrive, also indicating that the person has indulged excessively in alcohol and pleasures, leading to physical and mental exhaustion. If it shows a bright red color, it indicates that the children may suffer from injuries involving blood, or diseases such as sores or broken bones, or accidents like burns, scalds, falls, or bruises. If it shows a dark and gloomy black color, it indicates being secretly harmed by others, causing harm to the children, and also suggests the death of the wife's family or the grandparents' generation, with close relatives suffering injuries or punishments. It also indicates that old grudges may turn into disasters, or that someone with personal vendettas may suddenly take revenge under some pretext.
The twenty-first point: The "silkworm sac" beneath the lower eyelid is an auxiliary part of the children's palace, and it also relates to illness and death. If there are straight blue or red veins extending downward, it indicates there will be mourning in the family, mostly affecting the maternal relatives, the wife's family, and close relatives of the same clan, and the relationship is serious. The left side indicates male descendants, and the right side indicates female descendants; for women, the left and right are opposite. If the blue or red veins are curved and extend downward, the loss will be to more distant relatives or through bad news received by letter. If the blue or red veins are horizontal and exposed, it indicates harm to children, and even if it is mild, it suggests children will suffer great misfortune. If the veins appear pale, slippery, dry, or withered, it indicates minor illness or inner worries and indecision. If the veins appear red, dark red, or black and gloomy, it indicates being deceived by sinister people, suffering from serious illness or malignant disease, and also suggests contracting venereal disease; it also indicates being punished for immorality, the family falling into decline, and children suffering misfortune leading to harm. If the veins appear yellow or purple, it indicates joy for children, and also suggests the person has accumulated Yin virtue or done good deeds. This area distinguishes the severity and closeness of the situation based on the straight, curved, and horizontal shapes of the veins, and it is most important to pay attention to these.

The Twenty-second, "Yuanwu" is the main position governing sudden fright, danger, and disputes, and the auxiliary position for worries and doubts. If yellow, purple, or white and smooth colors appear here, they indicate peace and no obstacles. Even if one is in a dangerous situation, harm will not occur. If blue or red veins extend downward, it indicates old grievances, and there will be worries and hidden dangers for the next three years, or being entangled in legal troubles during those three years. If green and slippery colors appear, it indicates being slandered and envied, encountering minor frights, and facing schemes and conflicts. If red or bright red colors appear, it indicates imprisonment, danger, and calamity. If dry, deep purple, and dull colors appear, it indicates being involved and frightened, suffering losses due to being dragged into matters, with small people secretly harming one, or receiving letters that cause worry and suspicion. If black, dry, dark, and dull colors appear, it indicates sudden misfortunes, dangers, injuries, or even loss of family members—these are all unexpected misfortunes and losses, which should still be judged according to one's status and position. Since this section mainly concerns unexpected events, seeing an evil color should prompt one to remain calm and still.

The twenty-third interpretation: The area around the cheeks, known as the "Sai Yi," represents the servant's palace. If this area shows yellow or purple with a white and moist appearance, it indicates that servants will be loyal and helpful. If it appears blue and slick, it suggests that servants may steal or cause loss within the household. If it shows dry and deep red color, it indicates disputes among servants or conflicts between them. If it appears dark like smoke or dirty like dust, it suggests that servants may secretly harm the household, or that servants may commit crimes and involve the master, or that livestock may be harmed. If it appears black and dry, it indicates that servants may steal and run away. If it shows red and fiery color, it suggests that servants may face legal troubles or be involved in lawsuits due to livestock issues. The left and right cheeks can be divided into internal and external. Those employed within the household should be represented on the inner side, while those hired from outside should be represented on the outer side.
Number twenty-four, "Chengjiang" is the main area governing boat travel. If it shows yellow, white, purple, or other moist and lustrous colors, it is favorable for boat travel and profits from water-related activities will be smooth and prosperous. If it shows a smooth greenish color, it indicates a false alarm on the water and minor ailments in the lower body. If it shows a dark, dry, and dull red color, it suggests disputes caused by mockery or rebellion, or infection of a sexually transmitted disease. If it shows red or crimson, it indicates alarm from matters of desire and potential loss during boat travel. If it shows black, dry, dark, and dull colors, it indicates a water disaster and should not travel by boat; it also suggests death from drunkenness or disability due to a severe sexually transmitted disease. Anyone planning to travel by water must first examine this area before departure.
Chen Gongdu said: The appearance of auspicious or inauspicious colors reflects the immediate fortune or misfortune of the present moment, which everyone knows. The reason for understanding it is simply to seek good fortune and avoid misfortune. Therefore, I have explained each point in detail above. However, people differ in their inherent constitution, social status varies, their wisdom differs between the wise and the foolish, their circumstances are good or bad, their ages are old or young, and their temperaments are strong or gentle. Those who use mirrors to observe people should judge according to the specific situation of the person, and further distinguish the depth and intensity of the color. One must know that the appearance of colors is the manifestation of the heavenly qi movement before the occurrence of good or bad fortune; it is the harbinger of impending good or bad fortune. When auspicious colors appear, one should seize the opportunity and take bold action to achieve great results. Then, can misfortune be avoided? My answer is: misfortune can indeed be avoided.
There are two kinds of danger: one is encountered when one goes out, which is mostly caused by previous attractions of power, wealth, or profit, or by the movement of wealth stirring one's thoughts; the other is unavoidable even when one stays still, usually due to being bound by power or held back by family members. Therefore, for dangers caused by action, if one does not desire power and does not entertain such thoughts, simply sitting still can avoid them. For dangers that occur even when one does not move, if one is willing to give up power and is not held back by relatives, and decisively withdraws, they can also be avoided. Major dangers can be escaped by fleeing a thousand li; minor dangers can be avoided by rushing three hundred li— the key lies entirely in whether one can make a decision at the right time. As for lawsuits, delaying can lead to reconciliation; verbal disputes can be resolved through humility and courtesy; accumulated grievances can be dispelled by showing more kindness; hidden harm can be avoided by being vigilant; suspicion from others can be resolved by being cautious; and illness or misfortune can be overcome by quiet rest and proper care. All these are based on the same principle.
