Eight, Add household members.

獨夫處世，休言無子即忘情；君子治家，難道一身兼作僕。必須便嬖，乃足使令於前；若不螟蛉，焉繼宗支於後？老而無子曰獨，過繼他人子曰螟蛉。螟蛉，蟲類也。須別來占，方知主用。過繼小兒，以子孫為主。買婢、僱童僕、買寵妾，及收留迷失之人，皆以財為主。若窩藏有難之人，則看其人：與我相識朋友，以兄弟為主；尊長，父母為主；婦人，妻財為主；在官人，以官鬼為主也。

A person living alone does not mean that the absence of a son should end all hopes; a gentleman managing his household does not need to do all the work himself. There must be someone available to attend to tasks and obey orders. If a child is not adopted, who will carry on the family line in the future? Being old without a son is called "du" (solitude), while adopting a son from another family is called "minglei" (adopted son). "Minglei" originally refers to a kind of insect. When divining this matter, one must first clarify who is being asked about, in order to determine which line (yao) to take as the "yongshen" (useful god). If adopting a child, take "zisun" (children) as the main focus; if buying a servant, hiring a boy, taking a concubine, or taking in a lost person, take "qicai" (wealth) as the main focus. If hiding someone in difficulty, take according to that person's status: if it is a friend known to me, take "xiongdi" (siblings) as the main focus; if it is a superior, take "fuwu" (parents) as the main focus; if it is a woman, take "qicai" (wealth) as the main focus; if it is an official, take "guangu" (official ghost) as the main focus.

用不宜動，動必難留；用爻發動，其人難托。若遇游魂，或化入游魂者，異日主逃竄。雖螟蛉，亦不為爾子也。僱工借居，則主不久。若來生合世爻，則是吉兆，非逃與難留也。主不可傷，傷須夭折。主象衰弱，而被日辰動爻乘旺來刑傷克害，更無解救者，異日必然夭折。雖借居，亦主其人有大禍。若傷克之爻又無氣，或有制伏，不過災病，非夭折。得用爻在空避之地，無妨。

The Useful God should not be activated, as once it moves, the person will not stay: if the Useful God line moves, the person is unreliable; if it meets a wandering soul hexagram or the Useful God changes into a wandering soul, the person will eventually run away, even if it is an adopted son, in the end he will not become your son; for hired workers or those staying temporarily, it indicates they will not stay long. However, if the Useful God line moves to harmonize with the World Line, it is a good omen and does not indicate difficulty in keeping the person. The Useful God should not be harmed, as being harmed indicates a short life: if the Useful God is weak and is attacked by the Day Branch or a moving line that is strong, and there is no remedy, the person will certainly die young; even for temporary residents, they will suffer great misfortune. If the line that harms the Useful God is itself weak or is controlled by another line, it will only be a disaster or illness, not necessarily leading to death; if the Useful God falls into the Empty Void and thus avoids the harm, there will be no problem.

衰入墓中，擬定萎靡不振；旺臨世上，決然幹蠱有成。用爻入墓，其人性慵懶；衰弱無氣，及臨死絕，主萎靡不振；若得旺相不空，臨身持世，或生合世爻，大吉之兆。立嫡過房，必能成家；買納奴婢，亦能體我心力。動化空亡，有始無終之輩；蛇合官鬼，多謀少德之人。用爻發動，變入空亡，主其人有頭無尾。若臨螣蛇，動合官鬼，其人雖多謀，然奸詐不實，難憑。婦人見之，則主不貞潔。

If the used line is in the墓 (burial), the person is lazy in nature; if it is weak or located in the dead or exhausted position, they are even more listless. If the used line is prosperous and strong, not in the empty position, and is accompanied by the Hexagram Body or holds the World Line, or generates and harmonises with the World Line, this is a great auspicious sign: adopting a son or heir will surely revitalize the family, and purchased servants will be considerate to their master and willing to exert effort. If the used line moves into the empty position, the person will start things but not finish them; if the used line is occupied by the 螣蛇 (serpent) and combines with the Official Ghost, the person may be cunning but untrustworthy and deceitful; if a woman has such a used line, it indicates she is unchaste.

臨玄武而化兄爻，門戶須防出入；用臨玄武動，化兄弟；主其人貪財好色。托以財物，則必竊取自用，且必淫亂；男女皆然。故門戶防其出入。遇青龍而連福德，資財可付經營。用臨青龍，動化子孫，生合世爻，其人至誠忠厚。托以財物，則守而勿失；使之經營，則利盡歸於主。如占小兒，遇子孫化子孫者，反主多災。

When a line is seated on 'Xuanwu' and transforms into 'Xiongdi' (Siblings), this person is greedy for wealth and lustful: if given money or goods, he will surely steal them for his own use, and he will also engage in immoral relationships with others, both men and women. Therefore, the household should be more cautious about who enters and exits. When a line is seated on 'Qinglong' and transforms into 'Zisun' (Children), and also generates and harmonises with the 'Shiyao' (World Line), this person is sincere and loyal: if entrusted with money, he can keep it safely without losing it, and if allowed to manage business, the profits will all belong to the owner. However, if it is about an adopted child and 'Zisun' transforms into 'Zisun', it indicates that the child may suffer from many illnesses and misfortunes.

若逢太過及空亡，反主少誠兼懶惰。卦中用爻，有三四重太過，或主象又化主象，皆主其人暗藏機巧，反覆不實，且又事不宜向前。若主象空亡，亦是懶徒。決斷人物，已在前，此又補不足耳。用爻生合世爻，必得其力；主象克沖身象，難服其心。用爻生合世爻，其人可用。凡有事幹，必然用心；雖螟蛉，亦必歡愛於我，大吉之兆。大怕合住沖散，及克壞之。若用爻刑沖剋害世爻，必主其人心不悅服，難以使令。更加旺動，是乃奴婢欺主之象。兼以應亦刑剋，異日必遭其禍。

When the lines used in the divination chart overlap to three or four layers, it indicates excessive complexity, or when a line is transformed into another line used in the chart, it suggests that the person is secretive, fickle, and unwilling to take initiative. If the line used falls into "empty" (空亡), it indicates a lazy person. In general, the principles for evaluating people have already been discussed in the section on body and life, and this is just a supplement. If the line used generates and harmonizes with the world line (世爻), the person is reliable and will do their duty thoroughly, even if they are a foster son, they will be affectionate towards the person. This is a favorable sign. However, it is most feared if the line used is restrained, dispersed, or damaged. If the line used instead harms or conflicts with the world line, the person will be dissatisfied and difficult to manage. If it is also prosperous and strong, it indicates a servant who disrespects the master. If the response line (应爻) also harms or conflicts, there will be trouble from this person in the future.

財化子，攜子偕來；凡占妻妾婢女，財爻化出子孫，必有小兒帶來。若動財生合世爻，而化子反來刑剋者，其婢則可使，其子必頑劣不馴也。世合身，終身寵用。卦身一爻，占事為事之體，古人為人之身。若遇世爻生合，其人必得寵用。不拘借房投靠使婢，若遇世合財爻，其婦必通於家主。

When divining about a wife, concubine, or servant girl, if the "wife's wealth" changes into "children," this person will certainly come accompanied by her child. If the activated wife's wealth generates and harmonises with the "world line," but the transformed children come to harm the world line, then the servant girl may be useful, but the child she brings will certainly be unruly. The "hexagram body" represents the essence of the matter when divining. In ancient times, it was also used to represent the person themselves. If the hexagram body is generated and harmonised by the world line, this person will certainly be favored and employed throughout their life. Whether living in borrowed rooms, serving as a slave, or being a servant girl, as long as the world line and wife's wealth are harmonious, the woman will certainly have an affair with the master of the household.

受動變之傷，向後終難稱意；得日月之助，他時定見如心。月建日辰動爻克世，其人不可用；世爻衰，必被其害；若得變動日月生合扶助，然後為吉。若用爻空亦不濟。世與卦身，以和為貴；世身二爻，相合相生，比和為吉。相剋相沖，刑害為凶。

If the Month Builder, Day Branch, or moving line comes to harm the World Line, this person is not suitable; if the World Line is weak, it will certainly be harmed by others. It is only considered auspicious if the changing line, moving line, and the day and month branches come to support and harmonize with the line. However, if the used line falls into 'empty' condition, it still does not work. The World Line and the Hexagram Body are both important, and their relationship should be harmonious. If they generate each other, harmonize, or are mutually supportive, it is auspicious. If they control each other, conflict, or suffer from punishment or harm, it is inauspicious.

兄同官鬼，惟靜為佳。兄弟一爻者，為破財，為干眾，為虛詐，為阻滯，為是非，為災禍。官兄二爻者，皆不宜動；動必不稱意，有制不妨。兄鬼交重，誠恐將來成訟；三合絆住，須知此去徒勞。兄官或交變，或俱動，或從文書化出，皆主爭論紛壇，而至於成訟則已；若自三合六合絆住動爻，必有人阻檔，雖欲興詞，終不成訟。欲知何人阻住，以合住之爻斷之。

The 'Brothers' line indicates financial loss, multiple affairs, deceit, obstacles, disputes, and misfortune. The 'Brothers' line and the 'Official Ghost' line should not be activated; if either is activated, things will not go as intended. If there is a line controlling them, there will be no problem. When 'Brothers' and 'Official Ghost' lines change or both are activated, or if they arise from the 'Parents' line representing documents, it indicates disputes and conflicts, possibly leading to litigation. If these activated lines are restrained by Triple Harmony or Six Harmony, someone will interfere, preventing the case from proceeding. To determine who is interfering, look at the line that harmonizes with it.

若在間爻，乃是牙人作鬼；買賣交易，以間爻為牙行人。若臨兄弟官鬼發動，必是牙人作鬼斗謀，或多人爭保，或行人爭財，皆為不利。主事體難成。如居空地，不過賣主爭財。官鬼一爻空動，是賣主假虛空言，欲爭價耳。在間爻以牙人論。若兄鬼動而與應爻相合，必其賣主牙人作鬼論財，遇動爻化兄鬼亦然。

In trade transactions, the intermediary line is considered the broker. If the intermediary line is occupied by "Siblings" or "Official Ghost" and becomes active, it indicates that the broker is scheming or that multiple people are competing to act as guarantors, or that competitors are fighting over profits, all of which are unfavorable and indicate that the transaction will not succeed. If the "Official Ghost" line is empty and becomes active, it means the seller is just making empty threats to inflate the price; if the empty intermediary line becomes active, it is treated as the broker. If the "Siblings" or "Official Ghost" lines become active and combine with the "Response Line," it means the seller and the broker are colluding to set the price. If the active line transforms into "Siblings" or "Official Ghost," it is the same situation.

卦象兩官兩父，須知事繫兩頭；卦中父母、官鬼，俱有兩爻；或動爻化出官父，重疊太多；或卦無主象，而從官父化出；皆主其人曾經典賣，今是重易也。若父化父亦然。兩鬼俱動生合用爻，皆有人爭競買僱。兄鬼一動一沖，切莫財交一手。卦遇應爻克世，而兄官發動，或被日辰沖動，或臨應爻克世，須防設謀誆騙。故財物不可便交一手去也。

In the hexagram, "parents" and "official ghosts" each have two lines. If these lines are transformed from moving lines and overlap too much, or if the hexagram originally lacks the useful god but it arises from "official ghosts" and "parents," it indicates that the person was previously sold and is now being transferred for the second time. If "parents" transform into "parents," it is the same situation. If two "official ghosts" are activated and generate and harmonize with the useful god line, it suggests that someone is competing with me to buy or hire the person. If the "response line" overcomes the "world line," and "siblings" or "official ghosts" are also activated, or are stirred up by the "day branch" or sit on the "response line" to overcome the "world line," one should be cautious of the other party's schemes and deceit, so money and goods should not be transferred all at once.

應主世，他來就我；世生應，我去求人。凡占買僱奴婢，交易等事，以應為賣主。應生世是他人來就我，成事最易，吉；若世生應，我去求他，成事實難也。和合易成，最怕日辰沖破；世應生合，凡事易成。生合為上，克合次之。惟不宜世動，則是我去合他，又為難也。若是相合，又被日辰動爻刑害，必有破阻。要知何人，以破合之爻定之。如父母，為長上類。

When divining matters such as buying people or hiring people and trade, use the 'Response Line' as the seller. If the Response Line generates the 'World Line', it means the other party comes to me, and the matter is easily accomplished, which is auspicious. If the World Line generates the Response Line, it means I go to seek him, and the matter is difficult to achieve. If the World and Response Lines mutually generate and harmonize, all matters are easily accomplished. Among these, generation followed by harmony is the best, and generation with some conflict followed by harmony is next. However, it is not advisable for the World Line to move, as this means I go to harmonize with him, which again makes it difficult. If they are harmonized but are harmed by the 'Day Branch' or a moving line, there will be obstacles and disruption. To know who is causing the disruption, look at the line that breaks the harmony. For example, if 'Parents' is involved, it refers to elders or superiors.

相沖難就，偏宜動象生扶。世應刑沖剋害，凡事費力難成。若動爻日辰生扶合助，謂之有氣，必有貴人扶持，事亦可成。若當用爻，則是牙人能持其事。如生合爻是兄弟，又須用財囑託，方能成事。兄爻發動，為詐為虛；兄弟為反覆不定之神，故也。卦象亂興，多更多變。亂動則事不定，故多更變。

The World Line and the Response Line experiencing punishment, clash, control, or harm indicate that matters will require great effort and be difficult to achieve. If there is a Moving Line and the Day Branch generating and supporting or harmonizing with them, this is called having vitality, and there will certainly be a Nobleman to support the matter, making it possible to succeed. If the line that generates and supports is exactly the Useful Line, then a mediator can manage this matter effectively. If the line that generates and harmonizes is the Siblings Line, then one must spend money to make arrangements and seek favors, and the matter can then be accomplished. The Siblings Line indicates falsehood and lack of sincerity, as Siblings are spirits that are changeable and unreliable. When the lines in the hexagram are in disorder and movement, the matter becomes uncertain, leading to frequent changes and alterations.

六爻無父，定無主契之人；六爻以父母為文書契券，又為主契之人。若六爻皆無父母，必無主契之人。若無父母而動爻化出者，主有旁主。雖有父母而應爻空亡，亦無正主。兩間俱空，未有作中之子。間爻空亡，必無媒人。空亡而逢沖，必須央浼作媒。世沖，我去央他；應沖，彼去央他。動而空亡，其人假意推託，非真無心做也。

In the system of six lines of divination, "parents" represent documents and contracts, as well as the person who signs the contract. If there are no "parents" in the six lines, it definitely means there is no one to sign the contract. If there are no "parents" originally but they appear through a moving line, then someone else is acting on behalf of the principal. Even if there are "parents," if the "response line" falls into "empty亡," it is considered that there is no main person involved. If both middle lines fall into "empty亡," there is no intermediary to facilitate the matter. If a middle line falls into "empty亡" and is also in conflict, one must seek someone else to act as an intermediary. If it is the "world line" that conflicts, it means I need to ask someone else. If it is the "response line" that conflicts, it means the other party needs to ask someone else. If a middle line becomes active and falls into "empty亡," the person is pretending to refuse, but not really unwilling to act.

世獲間生，喜媒人之護向；間爻生世合世，媒人必然向我，生應則向他人。臨子孫旺相發動，必然執持其事。若不生世，而被應克，且居衰弱之地，彼必聽其謀為也。生扶弟出，防喜生之合謀。大抵間爻生合世爻，若卦中凶神不動，則是媒人誠心向我，無他意也。若兄鬼螣蛇玄武動克世，而應爻又來沖刑我者，則是間來生合，假意合謀，非真心也。空動亦非真心。若臨兄弟動化官，或臨父官兄，其言必不可信。

The intermediate line generating and harmonizing with the world line indicates that the middle person will definitely support me; if it generates the response line, it means support for the other side. If the intermediate line is seated on the children and is prosperous and strong, the person will certainly be able to accomplish the matter; if the intermediate line does not generate the world line and is instead overcome by the response line, and is in a weak state, then he will certainly be at the other's mercy. Generally, if the intermediate line generates and harmonizes with the world line, as long as theInauspicious Spirit in the hexagram does not move, it means the middle person is sincerely supporting me with no other intention; but if the brothers, official ghosts, tèshé, or xuánwǔ move to overcome the world line, and the response line also conflicts and harms me, then the generation and harmonization of the intermediate line is false, and he is actually conspiring with the other side, not sincerely supporting me; if the intermediate line is empty and moves, it is also not sincere. If the intermediate line is seated on the brothers and moves to transform into the official ghost, or is seated on the parents, official ghost, or brothers, then his words should not be trusted lightly.

父化兄，契虛事假；凡遇以上凶卦，而父母又化兄爻者，決主事體不真，文契不實。卦無父母，而從兄弟化出者，亦然。父化父主文書不實，又主交易重疊。兄持世，財散人離。兄弟持世，必然多費錢財，事亦干眾。僱工奴婢，不得力。更帶凶神旺動，必主人離財散。若占交易貨物，亦不正之物。

When encountering these ominous hexagrams, and if the "Parents" change into "Siblings," the matter is certainly not genuine, and the documents are not reliable. If the hexagram originally has no "Parents" but the "Siblings" change into "Parents," it is the same situation. If "Parents" change into "Parents," it indicates that the documents are not genuine and also suggests that the same transaction is repeatedly transferred. If "Siblings" hold the "World Line," there will certainly be many expenses, and the matter involves many people. The hired workers and servants are also ineffective. If further accompanied byInauspicious Spirit (malevolent spirits) that are prosperous and strong, it will certainly lead to family discord and loss of wealth. If this is about the goods of a transaction, then those goods are of dubious origin.

應若空亡，我欲成交徒費力；世如發動，彼來謀合亦難成。凡占交易，若我幹求於彼，而應爻空亡者，其事必不成。如彼欲求謀於我，而世爻空亡者，其事亦不成。蓋空世動，是我心疑惑；應動是他人更變；皆主難成，不為執滯。如或空逢沖動，而遇合，皆謂有解。至此月有成，自空妄動則凶。

When divining about trade, if I am the one seeking the other party and the Response Line falls into the Empty Void, the matter will certainly not succeed. If the other party is seeking me and the World Line falls into the Empty Void, the matter will also not succeed. This is because the World Line being empty and active indicates my own doubts and hesitations, while the Response Line being active suggests the other party is changing their mind. Both situations indicate difficulty in success, so one should not fixate on just one aspect. If an empty line is activated by a clash or meets a harmonious element, it indicates a possible resolution and the matter may still succeed by this month. However, if the empty line is itself inactive and moves recklessly, it is considered ominous.

弟因財乏，鬼必疑心。卦遇不成之象，而兄弟持世者，必因資財缺欠，故難成也。六爻無財，或落空亡者，亦然。鬼爻持世，則是心多疑，或進退不定，故難成也。不然必有他事阻，或有不測災病。卦無官鬼，又是無人執持其事，亦主不成。

The hexagram has already shown an incomplete image, and if "Siblings" is holding the "World Line," this is because the money is not available, making success difficult; if there is no "Wealth" in the six lines, or if "Wealth" falls in "Kongwang" (void), it is the same situation. If "Official Ghost" holds the World Line, it indicates the person is full of doubts and indecisive, thus making success difficult; otherwise, there must be something else interfering, or an unexpected illness or misfortune. If there is no "Official Ghost" at all in the hexagram, it means there is no one to take charge of the matter, which also indicates failure.

四復三番，事機不定；千變萬化，卦象無常。能求不見之數，自喻未來之事。凡占收留遺失子女，最怕鬼臨玄武發動，必是盜賊。用臨玄武，動化鬼爻，亦然。刑剋世爻，必被其害。或有遠方挈家逃來借居者，不論六親，以應為主。臨兄，為欠債來；臨官，為戶役避罪責；加玄武則是盜賊；逢沖，事已敗露；雖臨玄武，不帶鬼，而與財爻合，或臨玄武財爻，為姦情事來也。大抵皆怕兄鬼旺動克世，禍終及己。不傷世，或子孫持世者，不妨。

Things may change repeatedly, with unpredictable shifts; the hexagram patterns are countless and have no fixed rules. Those who can grasp the unseen numbers will naturally understand future events. When divining about taking in or recovering lost children, the most dangerous situation is when the "Official Ghost" is seated on the "Black Tortoise" and becomes active, which indicates thieves. If a line is seated on the Black Tortoise and transforms into the Official Ghost, it is also the same. If it further harms the "World Line," I will certainly be harmed by them. If there are people who have come from afar with their families to stay temporarily, regardless of the relationships involved, the "Response Line" should be considered as the main factor: if the Response Line is seated on "Siblings," they are fleeing due to debts; if it is seated on the "Official Ghost," they are escaping from legal obligations; if it also includes the Black Tortoise, they are thieves; if there is a conflict, the matter has already been exposed. Even if the Response Line is seated on the Black Tortoise without the Official Ghost, but it is in harmony with the "Wealth," or itself is the Wealth seated on the Black Tortoise, it indicates they have come for illicit affairs. In summary, the most dangerous situation is when the "Siblings" or "Official Ghost" are prosperous and active, and they harm the World Line, leading to trouble that will eventually affect oneself. If the World Line is not harmed, or if it is held by the "Children," there is no problem.

人孰無常，疾病無常；事孰為大，死生為大。占病以官爻為惡殺。凡病：症候輕重，得病根由，皆係此爻。獨發之爻，亦可以此推之。火屬心經，發熱咽乾口燥；水歸腎部，惡寒盜汗遺精。金肺木肝，土乃病侵脾胃；衰輕旺重，動則煎迫身軀。鬼爻屬火，心經受病；其病必發熱，咽乾口燥類。屬水，腎經受病；其病必惡寒，或盜汗，或遺精白濁類。屬金，肺經受病；其症必咳嗽虛怯，或氣喘類。屬木，肝經受病；其症必感冒風寒，四肢不和類。屬土，脾經受病；必虛黃浮腫，瘟疫時氣類。若鬼爻衰弱，病必輕；旺必重。安靜則穩然安臥，發動則煎逼急躁。

Human life has no fixed pattern, and illness also has no constant form; among all things in the world, birth and death are the greatest. In divination about illness, the "Official Ghost" is considered an evil influence. The severity of the illness and its origin are all determined by this line. If a line stands out alone in the hexagram, it can also be interpreted in the same way. If the Official Ghost belongs to fire, it indicates illness in the heart meridian, which will certainly cause fever, dry throat, and dry mouth; if it belongs to water, it indicates illness in the kidney meridian, which will certainly cause fear of cold, or night sweats, or seminal emission and leukorrhea; if it belongs to metal, it indicates illness in the lung meridian, which will certainly cause coughing, weakness, or shortness of breath; if it belongs to wood, it indicates illness in the liver meridian, which will certainly be due to external cold and wind affecting the body, causing discomfort in the limbs; if it belongs to earth, it indicates illness in the spleen meridian, which will certainly cause a sallow and swollen face, and susceptibility to epidemic diseases. If the Official Ghost is weak, the illness is mild; if it is prosperous and strong, the illness is severe. If the Official Ghost is quiet, the patient can rest peacefully; but once it becomes active, it will trouble the body, causing discomfort, restlessness, and difficulty in sitting or lying down.

若在坎宮，中滿血虛兼溼毒；如當離卦，內虛眼赤及尿黃。坎象中滿，故主中滿；離象中虛，故主內虛。然坎宮屬水，火鬼主血虛，水鬼主溼毒。離宮屬火，或火官主眼赤，水鬼主尿黃。坤腹乾頭，兌必喉風咳嗽；艮足震手，巽須癱瘓腸風。鬼在坤宮，腹中有病。火鬼：必患腹癰。水鬼：腹中疼痛。動化財爻，或財化水鬼，必患瀉痢。土鬼：則是癖塊，食積，或沙脹蠱症。木鬼：絞腸痧痛，或大腸有病。金鬼：脅肋痛。在上，胸隔痛；在下，腰痛。此鬼在坤宮斷法，其諸卦仿此推之。

The trigram Kan has one yang line submerged among two yin lines, symbolizing fullness in the center, hence it is associated with distension and fullness in the upper abdomen. The trigram Li has a hollow middle line, symbolizing emptiness in the center, hence it is associated with internal emptiness. The trigram Kan belongs to water, and within it, the fire nature of official ghost indicates blood deficiency, while the water nature of official ghost indicates damp toxicity. The trigram Li belongs to fire, and within it, the fire nature of official ghost indicates redness and inflammation of the eyes, while the water nature of official ghost indicates yellow and red urine. The trigram Kun represents the abdomen, Kan represents the head, Dui represents the throat and mouth, Gen represents the feet, Zhen represents the hands, and Xun represents wind. Therefore, the Dui trigram is often associated with throat conditions and coughing, while the Xun trigram is often associated with paralysis and hemorrhoids. When official ghost is in the Kun trigram, it indicates a disease in the abdomen: fire official ghost indicates internal abscesses; water official ghost indicates abdominal pain, and if it transforms into wife's wealth or wife's wealth transforms into water official ghost, it indicates diarrhea and dysentery; earth official ghost indicates痞 blockage, food accumulation, or ascites and蛊 disease; wood official ghost indicates severe abdominal pain or disease of the large intestine; metal official ghost indicates pain in the ribs and sides, pain in the chest if it is in the top line, and pain in the lower back if it is in the bottom line. This is the method of interpreting official ghost in the Kun trigram; the other trigrams are interpreted in a similar way.

螣蛇心驚，青龍則酒色過度；勾陳腫脹，朱雀則言語顛狂。虎有損傷，女子則血崩血暈；玄武憂鬱，男人則陰症陰虛。螣蛇鬼：則坐臥不安，心神不定。青龍鬼：則酒色過度，瘦弱無力。勾陳鬼：飽滿腫脹，脾胃不和。朱雀鬼：狂言亂語，身熱面赤。白虎鬼：跌撲打鬥，傷筋損骨；女人則血崩血暈，產後諸症；白虎血神，故也。玄武鬼：色慾太過，憂悶在心；在本宮主陰虛；化子孫，男子必陽痿；蓋玄武又闇昧之神，故也。宜通變。

The "Official Ghost" (官鬼) is associated with six spirits, each governing a specific type of illness. If "Official Ghost" is accompanied by "Teng She" (螣蛇), the person experiences restlessness and mental confusion. If accompanied by "Qing Long" (青龙), it indicates excessive indulgence in alcohol and sex, leading to weakness and emaciation. If accompanied by "Gou Chen" (勾陈), it signifies distension and fullness in the upper abdomen and disharmony of the spleen and stomach. If accompanied by "Zhu Que" (朱雀), the person may speak incoherently and have fever with flushed face. If accompanied by "Bai Hu" (白虎), it indicates injuries from falls or fights, causing damage to tendons and bones. For women, it may result in bloody discharge, fainting, and various postpartum conditions, as "Bai Hu" is the spirit of blood. If accompanied by "Xuan Wu" (玄武), it suggests excessive sexual activity and inner depression, indicating yin deficiency. If "Xuan Wu" transforms into "Zi Sun" (子孙), men will suffer from impotence, as "Xuan Wu" is also the spirit of darkness and obscurity. When making a diagnosis, one must consider the overall卦象 (divination image) and be flexible, not adhering rigidly to a single interpretation.

鬼伏卦中，病來莫覺；占病遇本宮鬼出現發動，得病初即曉根源。若本宮官鬼不出現，而他宮官鬼出現者，有病必然久伏在身，今因七情四氣感冒而發也。若本宮他宮皆無官鬼，必隱然得病，初莫知何由也。明夷、觀、賁、需、臨，切忌世身入墓；大畜、豐、同人、蠱、夬，莫逢財鬼俱興。

When divining about illness, if the "Official Ghost" in the native's own hexagram appears and becomes active, the patient knows from the beginning of the illness where the root cause lies. If the "Official Ghost" in the native's own hexagram does not appear, but instead the "Official Ghost" from another hexagram appears, this indicates that the illness has been hidden within the body for a long time, and now it erupts due to emotional disturbances such as joy, anger, sorrow, and thought, or due to external factors such as wind, cold, heat, and dampness. If neither the native's own hexagram nor another hexagram contains the "Official Ghost," then the illness was acquired without awareness, and the patient cannot even explain the cause at first. When divining about illness, one should also pay attention to the overall structure of the hexagram: if the hexagram is one of "Bright夷" (Mingyi), "Observing" (Guan), "Brightness" (Ben), "Need" (Xu), or "Approaching" (Lin), one must avoid the "World Line" and "Hexagram Body" being in a state of burial. If the hexagram is one of "Great Accumulation" (Daxu), "Abundance" (Feng), "Union" (Tongren), "Guilt" (Gu), or "Breaking" (Gua), one must avoid both the "Wealth" and the "Official Ghost" being active together.

官藏世下，病起如前。本宮鬼官伏在世下，必是舊病重發。若伏鬼不傷用爻，而用爻反被世克者，前日病輕，今日反沉重。如伏鬼刑傷用爻，而用爻反得世爻生扶者，前日病重，今日輕。用爻：妻病看財爻類。若伏妻財，必是傷飢失飽；如藏福德，必然酒醉耽淫。父乃勞傷所致，兄為氣食相侵。鬼伏財下，必是飲食不節，傷飢失飽；或因財物起因，或因婦人得病。鬼伏子下，必是飲酒過度；或恣行房事。夏或露臥，過取風涼；冬或傷暖，過穿裘帛；或過修煉養精等藥所致。鬼伏父下，必是勞心勞力，憂慮傷神。或因動土修造，或因尊長得病。鬼伏兄下，必是口舌爭競，停食感氣；或有咒咀，或因賭博爭財得病。

The "Official Ghost" in this palace is hidden beneath the "World Line," indicating a recurrence of an old illness. If the hidden Official Ghost does not harm the "Useful God," but the Useful God is instead harmed by the World Line, this suggests that the illness was previously mild but has now worsened. If the hidden Official Ghost harms the Useful God, but the Useful God is instead supported by the World Line, this indicates that the illness was previously severe but has now improved. The "Useful God" refers to the relevant element in the divination, such as the "Wealth" line when divining about a spouse's illness, and so on. If the Official Ghost is hidden beneath the "Wealth" line, the illness is likely due to improper diet, irregular eating and drinking, or issues related to money or women. If the Official Ghost is hidden beneath the "Children" line, the illness is likely due to excessive drinking or indulgence, or sleeping outdoors in summer with excessive exposure to cold, or wearing too much warm clothing in winter, or taking medicinal herbs for health preservation. If the Official Ghost is hidden beneath the "Parents" line, the illness is likely due to mental strain and worry, or due to construction activities, or due to matters concerning elders. If the Official Ghost is hidden beneath the "Siblings" line, the illness is likely due to verbal disputes, food stagnation and emotional stress, or being cursed by others, or due to gambling and disputes over money.

官化官，新舊兩病；鬼化鬼，遷變百端。本宮官鬼，仍伏他宮官鬼之下，必是舊病；或因舊病不謹，變生他症；或新舊兩般病。若遇鬼化鬼，其病進退。或有變症，或藥石駁雜，或寒熱不定。化出文書在五爻，則途中遇雨；變成兄弟居三位，則房內傷風。鬼化父母，必在修造之處得病。若在五爻屬水，則在途冒雨而得也。如化兄弟，必因口舌嘔氣，或是傷食。若在三爻屬木，必房中脫衣露體，感冒風寒所致。若化子孫，則在僧道寺院，或漁獵遊戲所致。若化財爻，多因傷食，或因妻奴，或因買賣交易得病。以上六親化出鬼爻，亦依此斷。

The "Official Ghost" in this palace is hidden beneath the "Official Ghost" of another palace, indicating an old illness; or it may be due to an old illness not properly treated, leading to other symptoms, or both old and new illnesses occurring together. If the "Official Ghost" transforms into another "Official Ghost," the illness will fluctuate, or the symptoms will change, or the medicine taken will be mixed, or the patient will experience alternating chills and fever. If the "Official Ghost" transforms into "Parents," the illness must have been contracted at a place where construction or breaking ground is taking place; if these "Parents" are in the fifth line and belong to water, then the illness was caught while traveling in the rain. If the "Official Ghost" transforms into "Siblings," the illness must have resulted from an argument or from eating improperly; if these "Siblings" are in the third line and belong to wood, then the illness was caused by removing clothes and exposing the body in a room, leading to a cold or wind-cold. If the "Official Ghost" transforms into "Children," the illness was contracted in a temple, monastery, or during fishing, hunting, or recreation. If the "Official Ghost" transforms into "Wealth," the illness is mostly due to improper eating, or from wife, concubine, servant, or trade and commerce. Conversely, if any of the six relations transform into the "Official Ghost," the same reasoning applies.

本宮為在家得病，下必內傷；他卦為別處染災，上須外感。鬼在本宮，家中得病。在下三爻，必是內傷症候；不然病亦在內。官在外宮，外方得病。更在上三爻，必是外感風邪；不然，亦是外科症候。上下有鬼，內傷兼外感，症候不一。上實下空，夜輕日重；鬼在內宮，病必夜重；鬼在外卦，病必日重；內外有鬼，晝夜不輕。若卦雖有二鬼，一旺一空，或一動一靜，必日輕夜重，或日重夜輕。分上下斷之。

The "Official Ghost" in the inner trigram indicates an illness acquired at home; if it falls in the lower three lines, it is definitely an internal injury, or the illness is within the body. If the "Official Ghost" is in another trigram, the illness was contracted outside; if it is in the upper three lines, it is definitely an external infection, or an external injury. If both the upper and lower trigrams contain the "Official Ghost," then it is a combination of internal injury and external infection, with multiple symptoms. If the "Official Ghost" is in the inner trigram, the illness worsens at night; if it is in the outer trigram, the illness worsens during the day; if both trigrams contain the "Official Ghost," the condition does not improve at either time. If the卦 contains two instances of the "Official Ghost," but one is strong and the other is empty, or one is active and the other is still, then the condition is either lighter during the day and worse at night, or worse during the day and lighter at night, depending on whether it is in the upper or lower position.

動生變克，暮熱朝涼。凡占，動爻為始，變爻為終。若卦中動爻生扶用爻，而變爻刑剋用爻者，其病必朝涼暮熱，或日輕夜重也；動克變生，反此斷。凡鬼爻化出所喜爻，所喜爻化出鬼爻，亦然。水化火，火化水，往來寒熱；卦爻水動化火，火動化水；不拘鬼爻，但有干犯世爻或主象者，皆是寒熱往來之症。卦有水火二爻俱動，亦然。水旺火衰，寒多熱少；水受傷，火得助，則常熱乍寒也。坎宮火動，內寒外熱；離宮水動，皮寒骨熱。若帶日辰，必是瘧疾。

When divining a hexagram, the moving line indicates the beginning of an event, and the changing line indicates its end. If the moving line generates and supports the useful god, but the changing line harms the useful god, the illness is likely to be cool in the morning and feverish in the evening, or light during the day and severe at night. If the moving line harms and the changing line supports, the opposite is true. If the official ghost changes into a favorable line, or a favorable line changes into the official ghost, the reasoning is the same. If a water line moves and changes into a fire line, or a fire line moves and changes into a water line, regardless of whether it involves the official ghost, as long as it offends the world line or the useful god, it indicates chills and fever alternating. If both water and fire lines move simultaneously, the result is the same. If water is strong and fire is weak, there will be more cold than heat. If water is harmed and fire is supported, there will be frequent fever and occasional cold. If the fire line in the kan palace moves, there is internal cold and external heat. If the water line in the li palace moves, there is cold on the skin but heat inside the bones. If these lines also involve the day branch, it is definitely malaria.

上沖下，下沖上，內外感傷。上下有鬼，病必內外兩感。俱動俱靜，一同受病。二鬼自相沖者，適感而遂傷也。如內鬼動，沖外鬼，先傷後感；外鬼動，沖內鬼，先感後傷。要分輕重，以刑合斷之，可也。火鬼沖財，上臨則嘔逆多吐；火性炎上，財為飲食。故占病，遇火鬼動克外財，必是嘔吐，重則反胃不食。若財帶螣蛇，吐上兼蟲；財在間爻，則是消渴易飢之症。

To determine the severity, one should refer to the relationship of punishment and harmony. Fire rises upward, and "Wealth" represents food and drink. Therefore, if the fire nature "Official Ghost" moves to attack the outer trigram's "Wealth," it indicates vomiting, and in severe cases, regurgitation and inability to eat. If "Wealth" is accompanied by "Teng She," vomiting may also involve worms. If "Wealth" is in the middle line, it indicates thirst and excessive hunger.

水官化土，下值則小便不通。水官化出回頭土克，在本宮內卦，是小便不通。屬陰，是大便不通。陽宮陰象，陰宮陽象，二便俱不通。若內卦水克，動加白虎，陽爻是尿血，陰爻是瀉血。白虎血神，故也。帶刑是痔漏。若患牙疔，兌鬼金連火殺；鬼在兌宮，口中病。若金鬼化火，或火化金鬼，必患牙疔。不化火爻，則是齒痛。金鬼逢沖，齒必動搖。

Water爻 as 「Official Ghost」 changes to earth爻 and comes back to克, if it is in the inner trigram, it indicates difficulty in urination; if the Official Ghost is yin, it indicates difficulty in defecation; when a yang palace is paired with a yin image or a yin palace is paired with a yang image, it indicates both urination and defecation difficulties. If the water爻 in the inner trigram is being克, and it is activated with 「White Tiger」, a yang爻 indicates blood in urine, while a yin爻 indicates blood in stool, because White Tiger is the god of blood; if there is also a刑, it indicates hemorrhoids or fistula. If the Official Ghost is in the兑 palace, the illness is in the mouth: if a metal Official Ghost changes to fire爻 or fire爻 changes to a metal Official Ghost, there will be a dental abscess; if it does not change to fire爻, it is just toothache; if a metal Official Ghost meets a冲, the teeth will definitely loosen.

如生腳氣，震宮土化木星。鬼在震宮，病在足。加勾陳，足必腫；加白虎，必折傷破損。土鬼化木，則患腳氣。木鬼，痠疼麻木；水鬼，必是溼氣；火鬼，必主瘡毒；金鬼，是腳骱膝疼骨痛，或刀刃所傷。鬼在離宮化水，痰火何疑；官來乾象變木，頭風有準。震遇螣蛇仍發動，驚悸顛狂；艮逢巳午又交重，癰疽瘡毒。離宮鬼化水爻，痰火症候；水動化鬼，亦然。乾宮鬼化木爻，頭風眩暈；木動變鬼，亦然。震在外卦，勿依此斷，可言其病坐臥不安，心神恍惚。蓋震主動，故也。更加螣蛇發動，必是顛狂驚癇之症，小兒乃驚風也。逢沖，則有踰牆上屋之患。艮象為山，山高故也。更逢火鬼，必患癰疽。若遇變出土鬼，可言浮腫蠱脹等症。餘可類推。

The "Official Ghost" is in the Zhen trigram, indicating illness in the feet: if "Gou Chen" is added, the feet will definitely swell; if "White Tiger" is added, there will certainly be a fracture or external injury. If a soil-type "Official Ghost" changes into a wood yao, it indicates foot qi; if a wood-type "Official Ghost" is present, there will be pain, numbness, and tingling; if a water-type "Official Ghost" is present, there will be dampness; if a fire-type "Official Ghost" is present, there will be sores and infections; if a metal-type "Official Ghost" is present, there will be pain in the ankle or knee, possibly with bone involvement, or injury from a blade. If the "Official Ghost" in the Li trigram changes into a water yao, it indicates symptoms of phlegm and fire; if a water yao changes into the "Official Ghost," it is the same. If the "Official Ghost" in the Qian trigram changes into a wood yao, it indicates headaches and dizziness; if a wood yao changes into the "Official Ghost," it is the same. If the Zhen trigram is in the outer trigram, then the above interpretation does not apply, and it can be said that the person suffers from restlessness and mental confusion, due to the active nature of Zhen. If "Teng She" is also activated, it indicates mania or epilepsy; for children, it indicates wind fright; if there is a conflict, there may also be a tendency for reckless climbing and disturbance. The艮 trigram represents a mountain, and its high and steep nature means that if the "Official Ghost" is in the艮 trigram and meets a fire-type "Official Ghost," it indicates abscesses; if it changes into a soil-type "Official Ghost," it can be diagnosed as swelling or distension. The rest of the trigrams can be interpreted in the same way.

卦內無財，飲食不納；財主飲食。動化官鬼，其病必因酒飲食而得。若遇空亡，飲食不納。若不上卦，不思飲食。財臨身世，或化財爻，雖病重亦能食。間中有鬼，胸膈不寬。世應中間，即病人胸膈處也。官鬼臨之，必然痞塞不通。金鬼胸肋骨痛，土鬼飽悶不寬，木鬼心癢嘈雜，水鬼痰飲填塞，火鬼多是心痛。若化財爻，或財爻化鬼，必是宿食未消，以致胸膈不利。

The "Wealth" line represents food and drink. If the Wealth line moves and changes into the "Official Ghost" line, the illness is definitely caused by drinking or eating. If the Wealth line falls into "Empty Wasteland," the person cannot eat. If the Wealth line does not appear in the hexagram at all, it means the person has no desire to eat. If the Wealth line is on the "Hexagram Body" or "World Line," or if the changing line again produces Wealth, then although the illness is severe, the person can still eat. The two intermediate lines between the "World Line" and "Response Line" correspond to the chest area of the patient. If the "Official Ghost" line falls here, there will be a feeling of obstruction and discomfort. Metal-type Official Ghost indicates pain in the chest and ribs, earth-type Official Ghost indicates fullness and discomfort, wood-type Official Ghost indicates a feeling of discomfort and itching in the chest, water-type Official Ghost indicates phlegm and blockage, and fire-type Official Ghost usually indicates pain in the center of the chest. If the Official Ghost changes into Wealth or Wealth changes into Official Ghost, it is due to undigested food, leading to discomfort in the chest area.

鬼絕逢生，病體安而復作；鬼在死絕爻，其病必輕。遇日辰動爻生扶，謂絕處逢生，其病必既輕復重，將安復作也。若財生鬼，必因飲食加重，或因婦人重合。故耳。世衰入墓，神思困而不清。世爻入墓，病必昏沉。旺相有氣，無非懶於行動；衰則不言不語。是怕明喜暗，不思食；愛眠，怕起，懶開目。更坐陰宮，必是陰症。用爻入墓亦然。世鬼入墓，鬼墓臨用，皆依此斷。

The "Official Ghost" falling on a dead or exhausted line indicates a mild illness; but if the "Day Branch" or a moving line comes to generate and support it, this is called a revival from despair, and the illness will first ease and then worsen, with the condition fluctuating. If the "Wealth" line comes to generate the "Official Ghost," the illness will definitely worsen due to diet or recur due to sexual activity. If the "World Line" enters its tomb, the patient will necessarily become dazed and confused: if the "World Line" is prosperous and strong, the patient is merely lazy and unwilling to move; if the "World Line" is weak, the patient will not speak, avoid bright light and prefer darkness, lose appetite, be sleepy and reluctant to get up, and even be too lazy to open their eyes; if it is in a yin palace, it is definitely a yin condition. The same applies if the "Useful God" enters its tomb; if the "World Line" follows the "Official Ghost" into its tomb, or if the tomb of the "Official Ghost" falls on the "Useful God," the same interpretation applies.

應鬼合身，纏染他人之症；應臨官鬼，刑剋合世爻，而世爻在交重之位者，必因探訪親友病而纏染也。鬼爻屬土，是時疫。用爻臨應，必病臥他家。世官傷用，重發舊日之災。大抵鬼爻持世，必然原有舊根。更傷用爻，必是舊病再發。否則必難脫體，須用保禳則吉。卦身持鬼，亦是舊病。

The Response Line is occupied by the Official Ghost, which either harms or combines with the World Line, and the World Line is located at a position where a moving line is intersecting or overlapping. This indicates that the illness is contracted from visiting relatives or friends. If the Official Ghost belongs to the Earth element, it signifies an epidemic disease. If the Useful God is located on the Response Line, the sick person must be ill in someone else's home. Generally, if the Official Ghost holds the World Line, the person already has a chronic illness. If the Useful God is also harmed, the chronic illness will recur. Otherwise, the illness will be difficult to recover from, and it is necessary to perform rituals for protection to bring good fortune. If the Hexagram Body is occupied by the Official Ghost, it also indicates a chronic illness.

用受金傷，肢體必然痠痛；主遭木克，皮骨定見傷殘。火為仇，則喘咳之災；水來害，則恍惚之症。卦中無鬼，以刑沖剋害用爻者斷。如金動來克，則木爻受傷，肢節痠痛；木動來克，則土爻受制，皮肉傷損。餘可類推。空及第三，此病須知腰軟；第三爻無故自空，為腰軟；有故而空，或旺相而空，為腰痛；不空，而遇動爻日辰官鬼克沖者，乃閃腰痛也；動空亦然。鬼在此爻者，亦主腰痛。

If the hexagram does not contain the "Official Ghost," then use the line that is affected by punishment, clash, control, or harm to determine the illness. If a metal line is activated and controls, it indicates the wood useful god is injured, leading to pain in the limbs and joints. If a wood line is activated and controls, it indicates the earth useful god is restrained, leading to injuries to the skin and flesh. If fire comes as an enemy, there will be symptoms of shortness of breath and coughing; if water causes harm, there will be confusion and mental unrest. The rest follows the same pattern. If the third line falls into "empty" without reason, it indicates weakness in the lower back. If it is empty for a valid reason or if it is prosperous and strong but empty, it indicates pain in the lower back. If the third line is not empty but is punished, clashed, controlled, or harmed by the moving line, the day branch, or the official ghost, it indicates a sudden lower back injury. If the third line is empty but activated, it is the same as before. If the official ghost falls on this line, it also indicates lower back pain.

官傷上六，斯人當主頭疼。上六。大抵不惟鬼爻臨處受病，被傷之處亦有病痛。如克上六，當主頭痛；克間爻，則胸隔不利。餘可類推。財動卦中，不吐則瀉；財在上卦動，主吐；在下卦動，主瀉。若逢合住，則欲吐不吐，欲瀉不瀉；如嘔逆噁心，裡急後重之例。

The sixth line is referred to as the upper sixth line. Generally, not only the area corresponding to 'official ghost' is affected by illness, but also the area that is harmed by the official ghost will be painful: if the official ghost overcomes the sixth line, it indicates headache; if it overcomes the middle line, it indicates discomfort in the chest and diaphragm, and so on. If 'wealth' is active in the outer trigram, it indicates vomiting; if it is active in the inner trigram, it indicates diarrhea; if it is restrained by another line, then there is a desire to vomit but cannot vomit, and a desire to diarrhea but cannot diarrhea, similar to symptoms such as vomiting and nausea, and tenesmus.

木興世上，非癢即疼。寅卯二爻屬木，寅木主痛，卯木主癢，若在本宮內卦，又是氣不順也。

The Wood Line is on the World Line and activates, causing the patient to experience either itching or pain on the body. Among the twelve Earthly Branches, the lines '寅' and '卯' belong to the Wood element: '寅' Wood indicates pain, and '卯' Wood indicates itching. Depending on which line appears, the corresponding suffering is diagnosed. If this Wood Line also falls within the Inner Trigram of its own palace, then the patient may also suffer from stagnant qi and obstruction in the chest and abdomen.

既明症候，當決安危，再把爻神搜索；箇中玄妙，重加參考，方窮就裡之精微。

The previous section has already clarified the patient's symptoms, so this section should determine whether the condition is safe or dangerous. To do this, the Useful Gods and Hostile Gods among the six lines of the hexagram must be carefully re-examined. The subtle intricacies involved require repeated comparison and careful consideration in order to thoroughly understand the underlying details of the illness.

先看子孫，最喜生扶拱合；子孫能剋制官殺，古人謂解神，又名福德，占病又為醫藥。卦中無此，則鬼無制伏。主服藥不效，禱神不靈。所以先宜看此。要生旺有氣，不要休囚死絕。日辰動爻生扶則吉，沖壞則凶。

The first thing to look at when divining about illness is the "Children" line. This line prefers to be supported, assisted, and harmonized with. Because the "Children" line can control the "Official Ghost" which represents the disease deity, ancients called it the "Relief Deity," also known as "Fortune Virtue." When divining about illness, it also serves as an indicator for medicine. If this line is absent in the hexagram, the "Official Ghost" will have no restraint, leading to ineffective medicine and no response to prayers. Therefore, it is essential to examine it first. The "Children" line must be in a prosperous and vital position, not in a weak or confined state. If it is supported or assisted by the day branch or a moving line, it is auspicious. However, if it is冲破 or damaged, it is inauspicious.

次觀主象，怕逢克害刑沖。主象即病人。如占夫，以官為主；占妻，以財為主之類。又自占，以世為主；代占，以應為主；亦是主象。刑沖剋害，即病人受症候折磨，故怕見之。若得世爻生合，旁爻扶持，必不至死。

After examining the "Children" line, the next step is to look at the "Main Line," which is most feared when it is subjected to punishment, clash, control, or harm. The "Main Line" refers to the line in the hexagram that represents the patient themselves. When divining for a husband's illness, the "Official Ghost" line is used as the Main Line; when divining for a wife's illness, the "Wealth" line is used as the Main Line, and the other six relations are treated similarly. When divining for oneself, the "World" line is used as the Main Line; when divining for someone else, the "Response" line is used as the Main Line, and these are all referred to as the Main Line. If the Main Line is subjected to punishment, clash, control, or harm, it signifies that the patient is suffering from the illness, so such occurrences are to be avoided. If the Main Line is supported by the World line or assisted by other lines, the patient may endure suffering but will not necessarily die.

世持鬼爻，病縱輕而難療；占病，怕鬼持世，必難脫體。大象縱輕，亦不易愈。若用爻有氣，子孫當權，目下雖可醫愈，日後必不斷根也。

The World Line is occupied by the Official Ghost, indicating that even if the illness appears mild, it is difficult to cure. In divination about illness, the Official Ghost on the World Line signifies that the disease is attached to the body and cannot be easily removed. Even if the overall situation of the hexagram is calm and the illness seems mild, recovery is unlikely. If the Useful God still has strength and the Children line is dominant and powerful, the illness can be treated with medicine for now, but the root of the disease will not be completely eliminated, and it will inevitably recur later.

身臨福德，勢雖險而堪醫。用爻為身，乃一卦之體。若得子孫臨之，決然無虞。縱然病勢凶險，自可有救，以藥治之，必定痊癒。

The Hexagram Body is influenced by "Fortune Virtue," indicating that although the illness appears dangerous, it can still be cured. Here, the term "body" refers to the used line within the hexagram, which is the main subject of the hexagram. If this line is influenced by "Children," there is certainly no danger; "Children" are both the Relief Deity and associated with medicine, so even if the condition seems severe, there will naturally be a response, and with proper medication, recovery is certain.

用壯有扶，切恐太剛則折；凡占皆喜旺相，惟占病則不喜。蓋人在病中，必衰弱；縱或素日強健者，至此必瘦，何旺之有？故凡得時有氣，又遇動爻日辰生扶者，乃太剛則折之兆，至生旺日必凶。若動爻日辰刑剋，則不嫌其旺相。

The useful god is already strong, but if it is further supported by generating and supporting elements, one should worry about "excessive strength leading to breakage." For divination in other matters, it is preferred for the useful god to be prosperous and strong, but in divination regarding illness, this is not the case. When a person is ill, their body is certainly weak. Even a person who is usually healthy will become thin when ill, so how can one talk about "prosperous" condition? Therefore, if the useful god is in its season and has vitality, and also encounters a moving line or the day branch that supports it, this is a sign of excessive strength leading to breakage, and on the day when the useful god is strong, misfortune is likely to occur. Conversely, if there is a moving line or the day branch that conflicts with it, then even if the useful god is prosperous and strong, there is no need to be cautious.

主空無救，須防中道而殂。主象若空，占病大忌。必得動爻日辰沖剋，謂之有救。蓋沖空則實，克空為用，故也。否則必死。

The main subject falls into "kongwang" and there is no one to rescue it, so one must be cautious that the patient may die halfway. When the main subject meets "kong," it is a major concern in divination about illness. At this time, there must be a moving line or the day branch to overcome or control it, which is called "having a rescue" — when the empty line is overcome, it changes from empty to real, and when the empty line is controlled, it can actually be effective. This is the reason. If the main subject falls into "kongwang" and there is neither overcoming nor controlling, the patient will certainly not recover.

祿繫妻財，空則不思飲食；壽屬父母，動則反促天年。占病，以妻財為食祿，父母為壽命。卦中不可無，宜靜不宜動。若主象遇絕，或化絕地，財遇之為祿絕，父母遇之為壽絕。大象若凶，此為死兆。卦若無財或落空亡，乃是不思飲食。父母爻動，占病大忌。以其剋制福神，官殺能肆其虐，故也。主服藥不效，禱神不靈。故云反促天年。

The patient's food and sustenance are represented by the "Wealth" line, and if this line is empty, the patient will lose appetite. The patient's lifespan is represented by the "父母" line, and if this line becomes active, it may hasten the end of life. When divining about illness, "妻财" represents food and sustenance, while "父母" represents lifespan. Both lines should be present in the hexagram and should remain quiet rather than active. If the main elements fall into the "绝" position, or if they change into the "绝" position, then "妻财" encountering "绝" indicates the loss of sustenance, and "父母" encountering "绝" indicates the loss of lifespan. Even if the overall hexagram is very ominous, this is a sign of death. If the hexagram lacks the "财" line entirely, or if the "财" line falls into the empty position, the patient will not desire food. Moreover, the activation of the "父母" line is particularly dangerous in divination about illness, as it restrains the "子孙" line, which is a blessing. The "官鬼" line then becomes more active and harmful, leading to ineffective medication and prayers that do not work. Therefore, the text says that this situation shortens the patient's lifespan.

主象伏藏，定主遷延乎日月；用爻不上卦，其病必難安。蓋凡出現之爻，日辰動爻能生能合；若不上卦，雖有生扶，著於何地？故其占如此，病亦是恍惚朦朧，不爽快之症。

The main image is hidden and not apparent, indicating that the illness will certainly persist for a long time. If the useful god does not appear in the hexagram, the illness will be difficult to resolve. All yao that are revealed in the hexagram can be generated and supported by the day branch and moving line; if the useful god does not appear in the hexagram, even though there is generating and supporting power, where can it go? Therefore, when this hexagram appears, it should be judged in this way, and the illness itself is of a type that is vague and indistinct, not clear and decisive.

子孫空絕，必乏調理之肥甘。子孫固為醫，又為酒肉。若在空亡，或臨死絕，或不上卦，其病必乏肥甘調理，亦纏綿難愈。若日辰應爻上帶子孫，生合世爻用爻者，必有饋送禮物資養。

The 'Children' line is both associated with medicine and with nourishing foods such as meat and wine. If the 'Children' line falls into an empty position or is in a dead and exhausted state, the patient will certainly lack rich and nourishing food for recovery. Conversely, if the day branch or response line carries the 'Children' line and generates and harmonizes with the world line and the useful line, then someone will surely send gifts to support the patient's recovery.

世上鬼臨，不可隨官入墓；世持官鬼，固非吉兆。若遇日辰帶墓爻，謂隨官入墓；本命爻隨官入墓，亦凶。若世爻用爻，化入鬼墓；及世爻命爻帶鬼動，化入墓者；與用爻命爻世爻，持鬼墓發動者，皆主大凶。

The World Line is afflicted by the Official Ghost, which is particularly dangerous if it also enters the tomb. The World Line already carries the Official Ghost, which is not a good omen; if the Day Branch also brings the tomb trigram, it is called "following the Official into the tomb." The fate trigram following the Official into the tomb is equally dangerous. Additionally, if the World Line or the useful trigram changes into the tomb, or if the World Line and fate trigram carry the Official and change into the tomb, or if the useful trigram, fate trigram, and World Line themselves carry the Official and tomb and activate, all these situations indicate great misfortune.

身臨福德，豈宜父動來傷。占病，以子孫為解神。身若臨之，大吉之兆。如父母動來克傷，仍為不美。

The Hexagram Body is overlaid with "Fortune Virtue," where can the "Parents" line come to harm it? In divination about illness, "Children" is considered the saving deity. If the Hexagram Body is overlaid with this line, it is a great auspicious sign. However, "Parents" can overcome "Children," and once "Parents" becomes active to overcome, this auspicious sign is broken, and it is no longer considered a good hexagram.

鬼化長生，日下正當沉重；鬼爻發動，病勢必重。若鬼化入長生，乃一日重一日之象，直過帝旺日，然後輕減。鬼在長生爻上發動，亦然。若化衰病，一日輕一日，與福化長生皆吉。

The 'Official Ghost' moves and transforms into 'Growth', indicating that the current illness is getting worse day by day. Whenever the 'Official Ghost' line moves, the illness must surely worsen; if it transforms into the 'Growth' position, this signifies that the illness is gradually increasing, and one must endure through the 'Prosperity' day before the illness begins to ease. If the 'Official Ghost' is originally sitting on the 'Growth' line and moves, the situation is the same. Conversely, if the 'Official Ghost' transforms into the 'Decline' or 'Illness' lines, the illness will gradually improve day by day; this is similar to the 'Children' line transforming into 'Growth', both being auspicious signs.

用連鬼殺，目前必見傾危。占病，不宜用爻發動，動則病體不安。若又化出鬼爻，謂病人變鬼。卦中更無子孫日辰解救，必死無疑之斷。

The useful god is connected to the "official ghost" which signifies a harmful and dangerous situation. When divining about illness, it is not advisable for the useful god to be activated, as its activation indicates that the illness will not be at rest. If the useful god is activated and then transforms into the "official ghost" line, this is called "the patient transforms into a ghost." If the divination also lacks the "children" line or the day branch to rescue, it can be concluded with certainty that death is inevitable.

福化忌爻，病勢增加於小愈；子孫發動，制伏官鬼，其病必減。若遇化出忌爻，反來傷克用神者，必因病勢少愈，不能謹慎，以致復加沉重。子孫化官爻，亦然。

"Children" moves but turns into a hostile god, indicating the illness has slightly improved but then worsens again. "Children" moving can control "Official Ghost," meaning the condition should ease; however, if it transforms into a hostile god, it instead harms the useful god, which definitely means that when the illness slightly improves, one fails to be cautious and properly care for oneself, leading to a relapse. The same principle applies when "Children" transforms into the "Official Ghost" line.

世撓兄弟，飲食減省於平時。兄弟持世，飲食必減。其病亦是貪食而得。若不動又無氣，而卦中財福爻旺者，則不然。乃是氣短力弱之症，不易痊可。

The world line is disturbed by the "Siblings" line, causing the patient's appetite to decrease from usual. When the "Siblings" line holds the world line, the appetite will certainly decline, and this illness itself is often caused by overeating which harms the spleen. However, if the "Siblings" line neither activates nor has strength, while the "Wealth" and "Children" lines in the hexagram are instead prosperous and strong, then we cannot make that diagnosis. Instead, it would be a type of deficiency syndrome characterized by shortness of breath and weakness, which is not easily cured.

用絕逢生，危而有救；大抵用爻，不宜死絕之地，以其一克則倒，故也。卦中動爻生助，謂絕處逢生，凶中回吉之象，病必將危有救。

The useful god, although situated in the "绝" (end) position, yet encountering a supportive element, indicates a situation of danger with a chance of salvation. Generally speaking, the useful god should not be placed in the "死" (death) or "绝" (end) positions, because at that time it is already weak and cannot withstand a single overcoming force; once overcome, it collapses. If at this time there is a moving line in the hexagram that comes to support it, it is called "绝处逢生" (salvation in the end), which is an omen of turning danger into good fortune. A sick person, although about to be in critical condition, will ultimately receive help.

主衰得助，重亦何妨。用爻雖不宜太旺，亦不宜太弱。弱則病人體虛力怯，卒難痊可。若得日辰動爻生合扶助最吉，縱是十分重病，亦不至死。

The main aspect is weak but can receive support, so even if the illness is severe, it is not a problem. The useful god should not be too strong, but also not too weak: if it is too weak, it indicates the patient is physically weak and lacks courage, making recovery difficult. At this time, if the day branch or moving line can generate and harmonise with it, it is most auspicious. Even if the illness is very serious, it will not lead to death.

鬼伏空亡，早備衣冠防不測；官鬼一爻，固是惡殺，然亦不可無。蓋凡得症因由，症候虛實，疾病安危，鬼神情狀，皆決於此。若不上卦，即當尋伏，庶可推測。若伏爻又空，其病必不能痊。縱有良醫，亦不能達其病源；縱有鬼神，亦無叩告之門，天年命盡。若病輕不在此論。

The "Official Ghost" is both hidden and falling into the empty void, so one should prepare a shroud and ceremonial garments in advance, to be ready for unforeseen events. Although this line is indeed a harmful influence, when divining about illness, it cannot be absent: the cause of the illness, the reality of the symptoms, the danger of the disease, and the nature of the haunting spirits, all depend on this line for judgment. If it does not appear in the upper trigram, one should look for the hidden god, at least to gain some understanding; but if even the hidden god falls into the empty void, the illness is certainly incurable—no matter how skilled the physician, they cannot find the root of the illness; even if there are real spirits, there is no way to consult or pray to them, and one can only wait for the natural end of life. Of course, this does not apply to mild illnesses.

日辰帶鬼，急為祈禱保無虞。日辰帶鬼，生合世爻，世爻看帶何等神，便知得何者為治。如帶父母，必須經籙符醮保扶則愈。如帶子孫，必須用藥調理。如帶兄弟，必須戒暴怒，節飲食。如帶財爻，必須好好將息。帶官鬼，祈禱鬼神。世持鬼，亦宜先禱。但世鬼是先曾許下，日辰鬼是未曾許下。要知求何神鬼，有福力，以日辰推之。如子為北斗或北陰；亥或溺死鬼，察其為河伯，或劃龍船。蓋亥水中有甲木，故也。餘仿此。

When the day branch carries the "Official Ghost," one should hurry to pray and perform rituals to avert misfortune. When the day branch's ghost generates and harmonizes with the world line, one should look at what kind of spirit is on the world line to determine the appropriate method of treatment: if it carries "Parents," one should recite scriptures, wear talismans, and perform temple rituals for protection; if it carries "Children," one should take medicine for regulation; if it carries "Siblings," one should avoid anger and control diet; if it carries "Wealth," one should rest and take care of oneself; if it carries "Official Ghost," one should pray to the spirits. When the world line holds a ghost, it is also advisable to perform prayers first. The difference lies in that the ghost on the world line is one that has already been promised to but not yet fulfilled, while the ghost on the day branch is one that has not yet been promised. As for which spirit or ghost to pray to for blessings, one should determine it based on the earthly branch of the day: for example, "Zi" water is associated with the Northern Star Lord or the Northern Yin deity; "Hai" water may be associated with drowned spirits, and further distinction is needed to determine whether it is the River God or whether a dragon boat ritual should be performed to send them off—because "Hai" water contains the wood of Jia, thus symbolizing boats and rafts. The rest can be similarly inferred.

動化父來沖剋，勞役堪憂；卦中動爻，化出文書沖剋世爻，宜自在，少勞碌。不然，病即復來，反加沉重。若化財來沖剋，須防食復；更加玄武，宜防色復；若化子孫克沖，被藥誤矣；若化兄弟沖剋，惱氣即復也。以上若日辰帶刑沖，不可依此斷。可言因此而復加沉重。蓋日辰是鬼在也。

If a moving line transforms into "Parents" and clashes with the world line, one should worry about a recurrence due to overwork. In the hexagram, if a moving line transforms into a document, which represents the "Parents" line, and it clashes with the world line, the patient should be peaceful and free from troubles and labor; otherwise, the illness will definitely recur and be more severe than before. If the moving line transforms into "Wealth" and clashes with the world line, one should be cautious of a recurrence due to overeating; if there is also "Black Tortoise," one should also be cautious of a recurrence due to sexual activity. If the moving line transforms into "Children" and clashes with the world line, it indicates that the illness was caused by improper medication; if it transforms into "Siblings" and clashes with the world line, it indicates that the recurrence is due to anger and frustration. The above points should not be interpreted as recurrence if the clash comes from a day branch that has punishment and clash. In such cases, it can only be said that the illness becomes more severe, because the ghost energy is still present on the day branch.

日加福去生扶，藥醫則愈。日辰臨子孫，生扶用爻，必得藥力而安也。

The day branch is combined with 'Fortune Virtue' to generate and support the Useful God, indicating that taking medicine will lead to recovery. The day branch is occupied by the 'Children' hexagram, and this 'Children' also generates and supports the Useful God. Since 'Children' is associated with medicine, it shows that the patient will certainly recover through the power of medicine.

身上飛伏雙官，膏肓之疾；凡遇卦身持鬼，而本宮官鬼爻又伏世下；或世持官鬼，而本宮官伏用爻之下；或自占遇世爻飛伏，上下皆值官鬼；總謂雙官夾身，最為不利。若大象不死，亦是沉困之疾，考終之患也。

The hexagram body and its flying and hidden gods are all "official ghosts," indicating a serious illness in the deep organs that is difficult to treat. Whenever the hexagram body holds a ghost, and the "official ghost" in its own trigram is hidden beneath the world line; or when the world line holds a ghost, and the official god in the trigram is hidden beneath the useful god; or when the flying and hidden gods of the world line in self-reading are both "official ghosts"—these situations are called "double official ghosts surrounding the body," which are most unfavorable. Even if the overall situation does not yet reach a fatal stage, it indicates a heavy and burdensome illness, which is a calamity that leads to death.

命入幽明兩墓，泉世之人。以日時看，身隨鬼入墓，命隨鬼入墓，世隨鬼入墓；有卦墓、鬼墓、世墓、主墓。凡遇動出卦中者，人皆見之，其墓為明；變入墓中者，人所不見，其墓為幽。不拘幽明，皆非吉兆。大象不死，病亦危困。若大象既凶，又逢墓動，或世爻主象俱入墓者，必死。得動爻日辰沖破墓爻，庶幾無事。

The personal hexagram line has fallen into both hidden grave and visible grave, meaning the person is already on the path to the underworld. One should examine the day branch and the hour branch: if the hexagram body follows the ghost into the grave, if the personal hexagram line follows the ghost into the grave, or if the world line follows the ghost into the grave, then there are several types of graves to consider, such as hexagram grave, ghost grave, world line grave, and main grave. Any grave line that is activated within the hexagram and becomes apparent to everyone is called a "visible" grave; any grave line that changes into the grave and is not noticeable to others is called a "hidden" grave. Whether it is a hidden grave or a visible grave, it is not a good omen. If the overall hexagram does not indicate death, the illness will still be severe and difficult; if the hexagram itself is already dangerous and there is an activated grave line or the world line and main image are both in the grave, then death is certain. Only when the moving line or the day branch breaks the grave line can one hope for no trouble.

應合而變財傷，勿食饋來之物；應爻動來生合世爻，當有問安之人。帶財福，必有饋送；兄弟，清訪而已。若應雖生合，而變出妻財，反來刑世克世；或應爻生合世爻，而刑剋主象；倘有饋送，切宜戒食。否則反能傷害。若上尊長，尤宜忌之。或加應值妻財，為變爻沖剋主象者，亦然。

The Response Line although comes to generate and harmonize with the World Line, yet changes into 'Wealth' and thus harms the self; food offered should not be eaten. When the Response Line moves to generate and harmonize with the World Line, it indicates someone coming to visit and inquire about the sick person's condition. If the Response Line carries 'Wealth' and 'Children', there will certainly be gifts brought; if it carries 'Siblings', then it is just a visit without gifts. If the Response Line generates and harmonizes with the World Line, but changes into 'Wealth' and thus harms and controls the World Line; or if the Response Line generates and harmonizes with the World Line but goes on to harm the main image, then if someone brings food, one must refrain from eating it, otherwise harm will result. If the food is intended for an elder, it is especially to be avoided. There is another situation: if the Response Line itself is 'Wealth', and its changing line clashes and controls the main image, it should also be avoided in the same way.
