The Xiu Men is the position occupied by yin energy, serving as the gate of the Kan palace, paired with the first star of the nine stars, the Tianpeng star, which belongs to water. The character Kan means to sink, and water ranks first among the Five Phases and can generate all things, yet it does not dare to confront the fire of the Li palace directly, hence it is called Xiu Men. Xiu means beauty, and it presides over winter, being strong in the years, months, days, and hours corresponding to Ren, Zi, Gui, and Hai, as well as the directions associated with these. Departing from this gate is favorable in all directions; matters coming from this direction are auspicious. After leaving this gate and traveling twenty li, one will meet officials or noblemen, or people leading pigs and sheep, driving carts and horses, or a lame person; after traveling thirty to fifty li, one will see snakes or aquatic creatures, which are all omens that come true.

The Xiu Men is suitable for submitting memorials, selecting generals, mobilizing troops, setting up camps, taking office, traveling on official business, visiting noblemen, taking exams, moving house, marriage, seeking talent, long journeys, business ventures, construction, erecting pillars, resting, and ceasing military operations. The classic text says: Xiu Men gains the virtue of the Kan palace, thus all affairs are peaceful; going to war is highly advantageous, and traveling far is also good; if leading troops under the 'Three Marvels', the divine path will be clearly visible and there will be spiritual assistance. The Tianpeng star is suitable for guarding border outposts, building fortifications, stationing troops for defense, excavating graves for burial, and relocation. The matters it governs include fires, construction, harm to pregnancy, conflicts, seeing blood, taking up office, and many thieves. The "Death Gate" is the gate of execution and killing, belonging to the Gate of Earth (Kun), paired with the second star of the nine stars, "Tian Rui," which belongs to earth. The meaning of "Kun" is to follow, because it is opposite to "Gen" (Mountain) earth and they complement each other in a cycle of renewal. Since there is life, there is also death, hence it is called the Death Gate. Death signifies an end, and it is most powerful in the four seasons' months, namely Chen, Chou, Wei, and Xu, as well as in the years, months, days, and hours corresponding to Wu and Ji. When leading an army into battle, attacking from the direction of the Life Gate while facing the Death Gate can result in a great victory. Events coming from this direction often relate to revenge, counterintelligence, ambushes, and conflicts, indicating ominous matters that should be carefully guarded against. The classic text says: The Death Gate combined with the Earth element is especially effective; if one walks beneath it mistakenly, one will lose one's soul and life. Only when transporting criminals through this gate is it considered auspicious; if used for other purposes, the consequences are unimaginable. The star Tian Rui is suitable for stationing troops, holding fortifications, training soldiers, studying under a teacher, pursuing spiritual cultivation, trade, purchasing land, burial, recruiting talented people, making friends, exorcism, and treating illness, and it is favorable in all seasons. "Du Men" is a closed door, the gate of the Xun palace, paired with the fourth green star among the nine stars, whose star "Tian Fu" belongs to wood. Xun means entering, but because it is subject to the opposing palace Qian metal, it can only conceal its form and retreat to hide, hence it is called Du Men. Du means to cut off or sever. It is strong during the years, months, days, and hours corresponding to Jia, Yi,寅, and卯. At such times, it is not advisable to lead troops into battle; instead, one should remain defensive or engage in half-way interception and concealment.
