Charting guides: Qi Men Dun Jia Chart

Dun Jia is the overall system of the Six Jia, the general principle of all books on yin and yang and feng shui, and the key to fortune and misfortune. With Dun Jia, all evil spirits and malevolent forces cannot cause harm. The three marvels, Yi, Bing, and Ding, symbolize the sun, moon, and stars, and can control all evil forces. When the three lights are present, the land god gains the marvels and remains peaceful. When a country has the marvels, it enjoys peace; when a house has the marvels, it prospers; when a tomb has the marvels, it becomes prosperous; and when one is appointed to a position and has the marvels, promotion is certain. When both the marvels and the gate are present, all spirits retreat and bow. If the marvel is in the south and also reaches the north, it is favorable. If one is in the east and constructs a building in the west, as long as one marvel star is seated on the mountain peak, all evil spirits will hide. If one has the marvels but not the gate, it can still be used. If one has the gate but not the marvels, it cannot be used. When both the marvels and the gate are present, there is nothing that can bring misfortune.

Direct Symbol and the Ten Spirits in Charge

"The Chief Symbol" is the deity of Tianyi Guiren, and for auspicious affairs, one should travel in the direction where it is located; this is called following the auspicious god, hence it is considered auspicious. The "Art of War" says that a skilled attacker launches his campaign from Jiu Tian. "Jiudi" is a deity of solidity, suitable for stationing troops, holding fortifications, and defending cities. Guo Zichen said: In general, the method of Dun Jia is used for military purposes when applied in high places, and for human affairs when applied in ordinary places. For all daily uses such as marriage, seeking a name, planning matters, burying the dead, and traveling, everything depends on the direction they face. As long as the three auspicious gates, rest, opening, and life, are obtained, the affairs will be favorable. If furthermore the three marvels are present, it is even more advisable to use them. However, the auspiciousness of the year is less than that of the month, the month less than the day, and the day less than the hour. Therefore, choosing the right time is most important. Although there are many methods for choosing the time, the Dun Jia Qi Men is the best. Among the twelve hours, the odd, gate, star, and instrument each have their own merits and are suitable for all matters. Only the "five unencountered times" and the five kinds of burial, even if there are gates and marvels, are not advisable to use.
