同人之漸:魁行搖尾,逐雲吹水。淤泥為陸,下田為稷。
The魁星 moves, the dragon's tail sways, chasing clouds and stirring water currents. Mud accumulates to form land, low fields change to grow millet. This forest is auspicious, indicating gradual transformation into benefit and converting harm into useful outcomes.
同人之歸妹:跛踦相隨,日暮牛罷。陵遲後旅,失利亡雌。
A lame person walks along, but by evening the ox is tired. Gradually falling behind the group, he loses wealth and also loses a female animal. This forest is凶 (dangerous), indicating that those traveling together have weak strength, suffering loss without gain.
同人之豐:三人俱行,北求大祥。長子病足,請季負囊。柳下之責,不失驪黃。
Three people traveled north together to seek great fortune. The eldest son had a foot ailment, so he asked his younger brother to carry the luggage. They each fulfilled their duties, like Liuxiahu, and like Jiufanggao who identified a thousand-mile horse without being concerned with its color or markings. This is Lin Ji, who values proper division of labor and obtaining the real merit without focusing on external appearances.
同人之旅:鳳凰在左,麒麟在右。仁聖相遇,伊呂集聚。傷害不至,時無殃咎,福為我母。
Phoenixes are on the left, qilins on the right, and virtuous and wise persons meet each other. The talents like I Yin and Lü Shang gather together. Harm does not come, and there is no misfortune in the time. Blessings are like a mother nurturing me. This forest is very auspicious, indicating the gathering of virtuous people and safety on journeys.
同人之巽:乘筏渡海,雖深不殆。曾孫皇祖,累累具在,受其大福。
Traveling across the sea by raft, the water is deep but there is no danger. The great-grandson worships his illustrious ancestor, and the spirits of ancestors from all generations are present, receiving great blessings. This forest is highly auspicious, indicating smooth entry without misfortune, and protection from ancestral virtue.
同人之兌:比目四翼,來安吾國。畿福上堂,與我同床。
The fish swim side by side, forming four wings together, coming to stabilize my state. Blessings enter the inner region, entering the hall and living with me in the same bed. This forest is very auspicious, indicating mutual harmony between two parties, with blessings coming to the family.
同人之渙:娶於姜呂,駕迎新婦。少妻在門,夫子悅喜。
Married a woman from the Jiang family of the Lu clan, and drove to meet his new wife. The young wife was already at the gate, and the husband was happy. This is a favorable omen, indicating that even in times of dispersion, a good marriage will be achieved.
同人之節:螟蟲為賊,害我稼穡。盡禾單麥,秋無所得。
Locusts cause great disaster, damaging my crops. The rice seedlings are completely eaten, the wheat is entirely devoured, and in autumn there will be no grain to harvest. This is a great凶 omen, indicating severe pest damage and crop failure, making it impossible to manage resources properly.
同人之中孚:衣裳顛倒,為王來呼。成就東周,邦國大休。
The clothes are worn upside down, due to the king's urgent summons. This is based on the "Book of Songs · Qi Wind · Eastern Light Not Yet Bright." In the end, the Eastern Zhou dynasty was established, and the states gained great peace. This refers to Lin Ji, who fulfilled his mission hastily and ultimately achieved great success.
同人之小過:王孫季子,相與為友。明允篤誠,升擢薦舉。
King Sun and Ji Zi became friends. They were enlightened, trustworthy, sincere, and loyal, thus gaining promotion and recommendation. This is a favorable omen, indicating assistance from like-minded people and advancement through sincerity.
同人之既濟:湧泉滑滑,流行不絕。汙為江海,敗壞邑里,家無所處。聞虎不俱,向我笑喜。
A spring flows steadily, continuously, accumulating into rivers and seas, which flood the villages and destroy homes, leaving people nowhere to take shelter. It is said that tigers do not all come at once, so I am able to smile slightly. This forest's water has become excessive and caused disaster, reaching its peak and then returning to danger, causing fear and anxiety, yet offering a slight comfort.
同人之未濟:桑戶竊脂,啄粟不宜。亂政無常,使心亂明。
The thief bird perched above the桑 tree feeds on fat but is not appropriate. The government's decrees are chaotic and changeable, causing people to be confused and lose their clarity. This forest is ominous. During the time of《Unfinished》, names and realities are not aligned, indicating disorder between superiors and inferiors.
The Great Possession Forest (the 64th forest of the Great Possession hexagram)
大有之大有:白虎張牙,征伐東來。朱雀前驅,讚道說辭。敵人請服,銜璧前驅。
The White Tiger spreads its sharp teeth, with a large army advancing from the east to conquer. The Vermilion Bird leads the way, proclaiming words of command. The enemy requests submission, coming forward with a jade tablet in its mouth to surrender. Carrying a jade tablet is an ancient ritual of submission. This forest is highly auspicious, indicating the exercise of both authority and virtue, achieving victory without battle.
大有之乾:南山大行,困於空桑。老沙為石,牛馬無食。
Traveling southward across a great mountain range, one encounters a distant and arduous journey. One becomes stranded in the empty mulberry grove. Over time, the old sand hardens into stone, and cattle and horses have no grass to eat. This forest is凶 (dangerous), indicating a path that is barren and land that is poor, where strength and vigor have nowhere to be applied.
大有之坤:蟠枝失岐,與母別離,絕不相知。
The twisted branches have detached from their fork and separated from the mother plant, hence cutting off all communication. This forest is ominous, indicating the dispersion of family members and the lack of communication.
大有之屯:噂噂所言,莫如我垣。歡樂堅固,可以長安。
People are all talking, but the saying "噂沓背憎" from the Book of Songs, Xiao Ya, "October's Meeting" is not as reliable as my own walls. Joy brings stability and can last long, ensuring peace. This forest is auspicious, indicating that one should guard their own home, face difficulties, and remain unharmed.
大有之蒙:李桃零墜,心思精憒。歡憂小愧,亂我魂氣。
Plums and peaches fall abundantly, causing confusion in the mind. There is a mixture of joy and sorrow, a slight sense of shame, disturbing my spirit and vital energy. This forest indicates an unsettled mind and fluctuating emotions of joy and sorrow.
大有之需:火雖熾,在吾後。寇雖多,在吾右。身安吉,不危殆。
The fire is fierce, but it is behind me; the thieves are numerous, but they are on my right. I myself am safe and auspicious, with no danger. This forest is favorable, indicating that dangers do not reach me. One needs to wait and naturally attain safety.
大有之訟:虎臥山隅,鹿過後朐,弓矢設張,蝟為功曹,伏不敢起,遂至平野,得我美草。
A tiger lies at the mountain's corner, a deer passes by behind it. The bow and arrow are drawn and ready. A hedgehog acts as a minor official, crouching in fear and not daring to rise. Eventually, it reaches the level field and eats the delicious grass I offer. The master of this forest is hiding and avoiding harm, ultimately achieving his desires. In disputes, retreating and yielding is the wise course.
大有之師:三火起明,雨滅齊光。高位疾顛,驕恣誅傷。
Three fires flared up at the same time, but a rainstorm extinguished all the light. Those in high positions quickly collapsed, their arrogance and recklessness leading to punishment and injury. This is a forest of凶 (danger), indicating sudden decline after great prosperity and certain defeat for the arrogant troops.
大有之比:疋居楚鳥,遇饞無辜,久散離憂。
A bird living alone in the land of Chu is falsely accused and suffers unjust harm, enduring prolonged dispersion and unending sorrow. This forest is ominous, indicating isolation and slander, with close relatives but no support.
大有之小畜:一室十子,同公異母。以義防患,禍災不起。
A family with ten children, all from the same father but different mothers. By upholding righteousness and preventing disputes, calamities and misfortunes will not arise. This is a favorable omen, indicating that although the family is large, there is order and discipline. Even if their resources are limited, there is no internal chaos.
大有之履:商人行旅,資無所有。貪貝利珠,留連王市。還家內顧,公子何咎。
A merchant went out on a journey, having no capital at all, yet he coveted shells, coins, and jewels, and remained stuck in the market of the royal capital. Returning home to take care of his family, what fault could the son have? This man is greedy for profit and forgets to return, but fortunately he knows to come back, so there is no fault.
大有之泰:禹將為君,北入崑崙。稍進陽光,登入溫湯。代舜為治,功德昭明。
Daxu was about to become the ruler, heading north to Kunlun. Gradually facing the sunlight, he entered the warm spring land. He succeeded Yu舜 in governing the world, his achievements and virtue clearly evident. This forest is highly auspicious, indicating succession to a great position and remarkable merit.
大有之否:乾行天德,覆幬無極,嘔呼烹熟,使各自得。
The Trigram Qian represents the movement of Heaven, embodying the virtue of Heaven which covers and protects endlessly. It nurtures all things as cooking does, enabling each thing to mature according to its nature. This indicates great auspiciousness, signifying that the virtue of Heaven's covering is widespread. Even in adverse conditions, there is an inherent element of prosperity within.
大有之同人:南國茂盛,庶稷釀酒。可以享老,樂我嘉友。
In the southern country, the land is rich and productive, using abundant millet to make wine. It can be used to honor the elders and share joy with distinguished guests and good friends. This forest is auspicious, presiding over abundance and shared prosperity, as well as unity and joy together.
大有之謙:方船備水,旁河燃火。終身為禍,與夫吉昌,永得安康。
They also built boats to prevent water disasters and made fires by the riverbank for warmth. Although there is continuous misfortune, it is connected with good fortune and prosperity, ultimately ensuring lasting peace and health. This indicates that the person in charge first took precautions and thus achieved safety, turning misfortune into good fortune.
大有之豫:雷行相逐,無有休息。戰於平陸,為夷所覆。
Thunder continues to roll without ceasing. Fighting on level land, they were defeated by the barbarians. This forest is凶 (dangerous). Acting rashly without restraint and lacking proper preparation led to their downfall.
大有之隨:躑躅踟躕,拊心搔頭。五晝四夜,睹我齊候。
Wandering and hesitating, he pounded his chest and scratched his head. After waiting five days and four nights, he finally saw the Qi Duke he had been waiting for. This forest master endured a difficult wait but eventually met someone, and in the end, he gained something.
大有之蠱:大口宣唇,神使伸言。黃龍景星,出應侯門。與福上堂,天下吉昌。
A person with a large mouth and thick lips is a sign of being entrusted by the divine to convey messages. When the Yellow Dragon and the Auspicious Star appear, they should be seen in the court of a noble. Blessings enter the hall, bringing prosperity and flourishing throughout the world. This is a great auspicious omen, indicating a manifestation of divine favor, rectifying chaos and achieving good fortune.
大有之臨:陰衰老極,陽建其德。離陽載光,天下昭明。
When the Yin energy is exhausted to its extreme, the Yang energy establishes its virtue. Attached to Yang and bearing the light, the world becomes clearly bright. This is a great auspicious sign, indicating the return and illumination of Yang energy over the entire realm.
大有之觀:三塗五嶽,陽城太室,神明所伏,獨無兵革,下有保國。
San Tu Mountain and the Five Peaks, Yang Cheng and Tai Shi Mountain, are all places where deities dwell in concealment, free from military calamity; there are states that are naturally protected beneath them. This forest is highly auspicious, indicating a sacred land free from warfare, where peace is attained through moral virtue.
大有之噬嗑:年歲豐熟,政仁民樂。利以居止,旅人獲福。
The year is bountiful, the government is benevolent, and the people are content. It is suitable for settling down and resting, and travelers also receive blessings. This forest is very auspicious, indicating clear governance and benevolence, with peace both inside and outside.
大有之賁:楚烏逢矢,不可久放。離居無辜,意昧精喪。作此哀詩,以告孔憂。
In the land of Chu, crows encountering flying arrows should not remain long in the open fields. Being separated from home without any wrongdoing, the mind is confused and the spirit is exhausted. This poem is written in sorrow to express deep grief. This forest is ominous, indicating innocent people suffering hardship, and their sorrow cannot be concealed.
大有之剝:出門大步,與凶惡忤。罵公詈母,為我憂恥。
Going out with big steps, one encounters conflict with wicked people. The other party insults one's elders and scolds one's mother, becoming my sorrow and disgrace. This is a凶 (fate of misfortune), indicating encountering evil people while traveling outside, suffering humiliation and shame.
大有之復:火之井谷,楊芒生角。犯歷天市,#觀太極,登上玉床,家易六公。
Fire falls into the well and valley, the thorns of the poplar tree grow horns, all are strange omens. In the star chart, there is a conflict with the Heavenly Market Enclosure, looking afar at the Taiji, ascending the jade bed, and six officials in the family have been replaced; the original text here is missing some characters. This forest indicates frequent changes and frequent changes in positions.
大有之無妄:牧羊逢狼,雖憂不傷。畏不惕息,終無禍殃。
While herding sheep, encountering a wolf caused worry but no harm. Though fearful and unable to relax, there was no misfortune. This forest is auspicious; it signifies vigilance that averts calamity. The danger of unwarranted action is resolved through caution.
大有之大畜:繭栗犧牲,敬奉貴神。享者飲食,受福多孫。望季不來,孔聖厄陳。
Offering a young ox with horns just beginning to grow, like a small husk, as a sacrifice, respectfully presenting it to the noble deities. The deities relish the food and drink, bestow blessings and grant many children. The desired son Ji Zi does not come, while Confucius is trapped between Chen and Cai. In this forest, there is both fortune and misfortune; the one who performs the sacrifice receives blessings but encounters difficulties in practicing the Way.
大有之頤:大澤治妝,南歸羖羊。長伯為我,多得馬牛。利於徙居。
By the great marsh, preparing for the journey, heading south to return with a black ram. The eldest brother manages my affairs, obtaining many horses and cattle. It is favorable for moving and settling. This forest is auspicious, indicating success in business and acquiring livestock, and profit from moving.
大有之大過:枯樹無枝,與子分離。飢寒莫養,獨立哀悲。
A withered tree has no branches, separated from the child. Suffering from hunger and cold with no one to support, standing alone and grieving. This forest is extremely凶 (dangerous), indicating the parent is separated from the child, with no one to rely on for support.
大有之坎:天地九重,堯舜治中。正冠衣裳,宇宙平康。
Heaven and Earth have nine layers, with Yao and Shun residing in the center to govern. Properly wearing caps and robes, the universe is peaceful and secure. This forest is highly auspicious, indicating a person who resides in the center and upholds righteousness. Even when facing difficulties, the world remains tranquil.
大有之離:鳧鷖游涇,君子以寧。履德不愆,福祿來成。
Wild geese and swans glide in the stream of Jing, referencing the "Book of Songs · Great Odes · Fu Yi." Thus, the gentleman finds peace. Practicing virtue without error brings natural success in blessings and honors. This is a favorable omen, indicating no deficiency in virtue and blessings following closely.
大有之咸:裸裎逐狐,為人所笑,牝雞司晨,主作亂根。
A man naked chasing a fox is laughed at by others; a hen takes the place of a rooster to crow at dawn. The Book of Shangshu, Mu Shi says, "A hen crows at dawn, which brings ruin to the family." This is the root of disorder. This forest is凶, indicating a loss of propriety, inversion of order, excessive female influence leading to chaos.
大有之恆:典冊法書,藏在蘭臺。雖遭亂潰,獨不遇災。
Classical texts, legal codes, and official documents were stored in the LanTai, which was the repository for books during the Han dynasty. Although it faced turmoil and collapse, it alone remained unscathed. This forest of吉祥 (auspiciousness) signifies that those who guard the constant and reliable can preserve themselves even in times of chaos.
大有之遁:三痴俱狂,欲之平鄉。迷惑失道,不知昏明。
Three madmen set out together to Pingxiang, but they are confused and have lost their way, unable to distinguish between night and day. This forest is dangerous, indicating a group losing their way and retreating with nowhere to go.
大有之大壯:癭瘤瘍疥,為身瘡害。疾病癃痢,常不危殆。
Swelling lumps, sores, and skin diseases are ailments on the body, and also suffering from urinary retention and dysentery, but fortunately they do not often endanger life. This indicates a person with minor ailments but not major misfortune, though strong and healthy, yet carrying illness.
大有之晉:三豕俱走,斗於谷口。白豕不勝,死於坂下。
Three pigs ran together and fought at the mouth of the valley. The white pig could not win and died beneath the hill. This forest is凶, indicating disputes leading to failure and loss. Advancing further results in setbacks.
大有之明夷:賴主之光,受德之佑。遂造顛沛,獨不凶咎。
Relying on the brilliance of the sovereign, receiving the protection of grace. Even if encountering hardship and wandering, there is no calamity or blame. This is a favorable omen, indicating that in a time of obscurity one receives protection, and amidst danger one can remain unharmed.
大有之家人:上義崇德,以建大福。吉宜誥旦,周武功立。
Pursuing virtue and morality to establish great blessings. Good fortune is appropriate in the morning of a royal decree, through which King Wu of Zhou established his achievements. This forest is auspicious, indicating that one should cultivate virtue and govern the family before attaining great success.
大有之睽:四亂不安,東西為恨,身止無功。不出國城,乃得完全,賴其生福。
The four directions are in turmoil and unrest, with both east and west causing resentment. The person remains stationary without achieving anything. As long as one does not leave the capital city gate, they can remain safe and enjoy blessings. This forest is suitable for staying and avoiding action during a time of discord and separation.
大有之蹇:金牙鐵齒,西母王子。無有患殆,涉道大利。
Those with golden teeth and iron jaws are the sons of the Queen Mother of the West. With their protection, there will be no calamities or dangers, and traveling far is highly beneficial. This forest is auspicious; it indicates divine assistance and the ability to overcome difficulties.
大有之解:賀喜從福,日利蕃息,歡樂有得。
Celebrating joyous occasions, blessings accompany, daily gains increase and multiply, happiness brings rewards. This forest is very auspicious, indicating the resolution of difficulties and the arrival of blessings, with daily growth of benefits.
大有之損:昊天白日,照臨我國。萬民康寧,咸賴受福。
Heaven is bright and the sun shines high, illuminating my country. All the people are safe and peaceful, each person receiving blessings. This forest is highly auspicious, although it is said to be diminished, in reality there is no loss. The sovereign is enlightened and the people are at peace.
大有之益:左眇右盲,視暗不明。下民多櫱,君失其常。
The left eye is blind, the right eye is also blind, and things appear dim and unclear. The common people often encounter misfortunes, and the ruler loses the proper way. This forest is凶 (auspiciousness is absent), the sovereign cannot clearly perceive matters, and what is meant to be beneficial becomes harmful instead.
大有之夬:吾有黍梁,委積道旁。有架服箱,運我到鄉,藏於嘉倉。
I have millet and rice, piled up by the roadside. There is a cart with a large box that can carry them, and I can transport them back to my hometown and store them in good granaries. This forest is very auspicious, indicating decisive action and the ability to harvest and store abundant grain.
大有之姤:殊類異路,心不相慕。牝豕無#,鰥無室家。
Different categories, different paths, they do not admire each other. A sow has lost her mate, the text here is missing a character; a widower has no wife. This forest is凶, indicating encountering someone who is not one's mate, being lonely and unable to find a match.
大有之萃:雀行求食,出門見鷂。顛蹶上下,幾無所處。
Sparrows go out to find food, but as soon as they leave, they meet a hawk. They are tossed about and flee desperately, almost having nowhere to take shelter. This forest is dangerous, indicating that seeking profit meets danger, and gathering leads to losing one's place.
大有之升:野有積庾,穡人駕取,不逢虎狼,暮歸其宅。
Out in the open, there are heaps of grain piled up outdoors. A farmer drove his cart to take some, and on the way did not meet any tigers or wolves. In the evening, he safely returned home. This is a favorable omen, indicating a good harvest and no worries on the way back and forth.
大有之困:膚敏之德,發憤忘食。虜豹禽越,為王求福。
A virtuous and capable person, diligent and striving to the point of neglecting sleep and food, as mentioned in the Analects with the phrase "forgetting to eat through intense study." Capturing leopards and subduing the Yue people, seeking blessings for the sovereign. This is Lin Ji, indicating effort and perseverance amidst difficulties, achieving success and receiving rewards.
大有之井:光祀春成,陳寶雞鳴。陽明失道,不能自守,消亡為咎。
The bright worship was completed in spring, with the divine chicken crowing in the temple of Chenbao; King Wen of Qin obtained the Chenbao, which appeared like the crowing of a rooster, as recorded in the "Records of the Grand Historian: Book of Propitiation." Unfortunately, Yangming lost the proper way, could not maintain himself, and thus perished into misfortune. This forest first brings good fortune then misfortune, indicating that if one does not firmly hold on, the blessings will eventually be exhausted.
