From this point on, the table does not list generations or years, only the names of the cycles are listed one after another. The following list covers the 191st to the 200th cycle, then the 210th cycle, making a total of twenty cycles. Each cycle lasts 360 years, so twenty cycles amount to 7,200 years, covering the period from the year 1384 to 8583. The 210th cycle is the last of the thirty cycles in the seventh division, the 'Wuhui' division. From the 181st cycle to the 210th cycle, the entire 10,800 years of the Wuhui division are fully accounted for. According to Shao Yong's calculations, all historical events since the time of Yao and Shun are confined to the first half of the Wuhui division, while the latter half of the Wuhui division and the subsequent cycles remain as empty names, waiting for the sun and moon to pass through them naturally.

The stem of the day is Jia, and the branch of the month is Wei.

This line 「The first Jia of the day, the eighth Wei of the month」 marks a new coordinate: still within the first cycle, having already transitioned from the seventh cycle Wu cycle to the eighth cycle Wei cycle. Each cycle encompasses thirty transitions, totaling eleven thousand and eight hundred years; the Wei cycle covers the 211st to the 240th transitions, beginning in the year 8584 AD. Here, the first fifteen transitions, from the 211st to the 225th, amounting to five thousand four hundred years, are listed, corresponding to the years 8584 AD to 13983 AD. The twelve cycles rotate in the order of Zi, Chou, Yin, Mao, and so on. Once the Wu cycle is completed, the vital energy of heaven and earth begins to shift from its peak to decline, which Shao Yong referred to as 「when yang reaches its extreme, yin arises」; however, the table does not make any explicit judgment, merely listing the names of the transitions in sequence, allowing readers to observe the changes through the progression of numbers.

Following the fifteen cycles of the "Wei" phase, which spans from the 226th to the 240th cycle, totaling 5,400 years, corresponding to the years 13984 to 19383 AD. The names of the cycles are marked by the ten heavenly stems in sequence, with each ten cycles forming a complete cycle. When the stem "Gui" is reached, it completes a full cycle of ten. For example, the 230th and 240th cycles are both titled "Jingxing zhi Gui" (癸 of the Star Path), and by referring to the stem and branch, one can determine their position within a ten-year period. Converted to the Gregorian calendar, the 226th cycle begins in 13984 AD, the 230th cycle begins in 14424 AD, and the 240th cycle ends in 19383 AD. Once the 240th cycle is completed, the 10,800 years of the "Wei" phase are exhausted, and the next phase, the ninth cycle of the "Shen" phase, begins with a new coordinate system.

The Heavenly Stem Jia occurs once on the day, and the Earthly Branch You occurs nine times on the month.

"The 'Jing Ri' (Heavenly Stem) Jia and the 'Jing Yue' (Monthly) Shen Ji" refers to the fact that we are still in the first cycle, but have already progressed to the ninth cycle, the Shen cycle. The Shen cycle governs the 241st to 270th eras, beginning in the year 19384. Here we first list the first fifteen eras, from the 241st to the 255th, totaling 5,400 years, corresponding to the years 19384 to 24783. According to Shao Yong's theory, one cycle consists of twelve cycles, totaling 129,600 years, just as a year has twelve months and a day has twelve hours. Heaven was created in the Zi cycle, Earth was formed in the Chou cycle, and humans appeared in the Yin cycle. All things were created in the 76th era of the Yin cycle and ended in the 315th era of the Xiu cycle. The Shen cycle comes after Wu and Wei cycles, representing the period when the cycle of energy transitions from growth to decline. The actual rise and fall of people during this time cannot be predicted by Shao Yong, so this table only lists the names of the cycles."

This is the fifteenth cycle of the Shēn (申) Great Period, i.e., the 256th to 270th cycles, lasting 5,400 years, from the year 2478 to 3018. When the 270th cycle is completed, the entire 10,800 years of the ninth Great Period of Shēn will be finished. The entire table is arranged in such a systematic manner to clearly demonstrate the proportional relationship among the four levels: one Yuan consists of twelve Great Periods, one Great Period consists of thirty cycles, one cycle consists of twelve Eras, and one Era lasts thirty years. Multiplying these levels together results in exactly 129,600 years. Converted into the Gregorian calendar, the 256th cycle begins in the year 2478, the 260th cycle begins in 2622, and the 270th cycle ends in 3018.

The Heavenly Stem Jia appears once on the day and the Earthly Branch You appears ten times on the month.

"The passage 'The day stem Jia and the month branch You ten' refers to the first cycle, which has already progressed to the tenth cycle of You. The period covered by the You cycle spans from the 271st to the 300th cycle, beginning in the year 30184 AD. Here, the 271st to the 288th cycles, totaling eighteen cycles or 6,480 years, are listed, covering the period from 30184 AD to 36663 AD. After the You cycle comes the Xu cycle, and Shao Yong believed that all things would close at the 315th cycle of the Xu cycle, with the heavens and earth returning to chaos. Then, after a period, a new cycle would begin. Therefore, the You cycle is already a time of convergence. The text continues to list the remaining cycles one by one, proceeding in order until all twelve cycles and 360 cycles are completed. The final cycle, the 288th, is converted into the Gregorian calendar, starting in 36304 AD and ending in 36663 AD; the following cycles follow the same pattern."

Continuing with the discussion on the conjunction of stars and their movements, the section covers the stars from the 289th to the 300th in the sequence of the star systems, specifically the ones associated with the water element, which are referred to as the癸 (Gui) stars.

This section continues from the end of the "Meeting of the Celestial and Terrestrial" table. "Jing Xing" refers to "Yun," with one Yun spanning 360 years, continuously numbered from the beginning of the Ben Yuan; "Jing Xing Zhi Ren 289" corresponds to the 289th Yun of the Ben Yuan, which covers the years 103,681 to 104,040 of the Ben Yuan. Following this, the next Yins are: Gui 290, Jia 291, Yi 292, Bing 293, Ding 294, Wu 295, Ji 296, Geng 297, Xin 298, Ren 299. Each subsequent Yun adds another 360 years. When reaching "Jing Xing Zhi Gui 300," it marks the 300th Yun, which exactly fills the "Jing Hui Zhi You 10" cycle. One cycle consists of thirty Yuns, totaling 10,080 years, and the You cycle ends here. These twelve Yuns are only labeled with their names and not associated with any historical events, as they all lie far in the future after Shao Yong's time and are merely empty spaces calculated numerically.

When the day stem is Jia and the month stem is Wu, it is considered to be closing the matter.

"The phrase 'passing through the day's Jia one' indicates that the record is still within the first cycle, the Jia cycle; 'passing through the month's Xu eleven' indicates entering the eleventh phase, which is the Xu phase. Each phase governs thirty cycles, and the Xu phase covers the 301st to the 330th cycles. In the table, the stars are listed in order: Jia 301, Yi 302, Bing 303, Ding 304, Wu 305, Ji 306, Geng 307, Xin 308, Ren 309, Gui 310, Jia 311, Yi 312, Bing 313, Ding 314, up to Wu 315. Shao Yong believed that all living things in the world 'begin to manifest in the star Ji seventy-six,' which is in the Yin phase, where they start to grow and multiply; by the 315th cycle, 'the closure of all things' occurs, meaning the cessation of vitality and the gathering in of all things, thus closing the cycle of life and death within the first cycle. The original text's record of the Xu phase ends here, hence it is said 'the end of the month's Xu.'"

The Supreme Principles Governing the World, Volume Five Upper · The Twenty-Fifth Chapter on Observing Things: Using the Cycle to Govern the World (The Cycle of the癸, 180)

Starting from this volume, the structure of The Supreme Principles Governing the World changes from "using the 'he' to govern the 'yuan'" to "using the 'yuan' to govern the world": each "yuan" (360 years) becomes the main framework of a chapter, and under each "yuan" there are twelve "shi" (each 30 years). Each year is marked with the heavenly stem and earthly branch, and historical events are linked to the corresponding stem and branch. "Jing Yuan Zhi Jia Yi" indicates that the recorded events are still within the first "yuan"; "Jing Hui Zhi Si Liu" refers to the sixth "hui" of the "si" type; "Jing Yun Zhi Gui Bai Ba Shi" means the 180th "yuan" of the current "yuan," which is also the last "yuan" of the "si" hui, covering the period from 64,441 to 64,800 years of the current "yuan," equivalent to 2577 BCE to 2218 BCE. The "shi" also start numbering continuously from the beginning of the "yuan," with one "yuan" containing 4,320 "shi." In this "yuan," the 2,149th to 2,160th "shi" are included. Among these, the 2,149th "shi" (Zi), 2,150th (Chou), 2,151st (Yin), 2,152nd (Mao), 2,153rd (Chen), 2,154th (Si), and 2,155th (Wu) "shi" correspond to the period from 2577 BCE to 2368 BCE. These seven "shi" only list the name of the "shi" without marking the heavenly stem and earthly branch or recording historical events, because Shao Yong's chronological system officially began with the year when Yao the Great Emperor ascended the throne.

The 2156th generation belongs to the Yiwei era, spanning from 2367 to 2338 BCE. These thirty years began with the sequence of the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches: Jiawu, Yiwei, Bingshen, Dingyou, Wuxu, Jihai, Gengzi, Xinchou, Rennyin, Guimao. There are no notable events recorded during this period. In the year Jiachen, which was 2357 BCE, Emperor Yao of the Tang dynasty established his capital at Pingyang and ascended the throne, founding the state of Taotang. The Chinese chronology from the Huangji Jingshi begins with this year. Yao appointed the Xi and He families to diligently follow the heavenly laws, observing and calculating the movements of the sun, moon, and stars, and announcing the seasons to the people. He set a year at 366 days and used intercalary months to correct the four seasons, aligning the calendar with the natural seasons. At that time, the term 'year' was called 'zai', and the first month of the Xia calendar, which is now the lunar January, was considered the beginning of the year. Yao also thoroughly organized the duties of the officials, and as a result, all government affairs flourished. The following nine years from Yisi to Guichou and the next ten years from Jiayin to Guihai are only listed by their Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches, with no significant events recorded in historical records.

In the 2157th generation, the original title is "Jingshi zhi Jia." According to the order of the twelve earthly branches, this should be the Shen generation, corresponding to the period from 2337 to 2308 BCE. The starting year, Jiazi, is 2337 BCE, which is the 21st year of Tang Yao's reign. The following years from Yichou to Guiyou span nine years, from Jiaxu to Guiwei span ten years, and from Jiashen to Guisi span ten years, all listed year by year with the heavenly stems and earthly branches. During these thirty years, Yao ruled the world in peace and stability, and no historical events are recorded in the table.

The 2158th generation belongs to the You era, spanning from 2307 BCE to 2278 BCE. The Jiawu year, 2307 BCE, was the 51st year of the reign of Emperor Yao. The years from Yiwei to Guimao lasted nine years, and from Jiachen to Xinhai lasted eight years, all without significant events. The Renzi year, 2289 BCE, was when Emperor Yao sent Gun to manage the floods. Gun used the method of blocking, but after many years, there was no success. The Guichou year, 2288 BCE, was when Emperor Yao intended to pass on the rule of the world to a virtuous person. He asked his ministers to recommend a person of moral excellence, regardless of their humble origin or low status, so that none would be overlooked. Thus, Yu Shun was first summoned and appointed. Emperor Yao tested Yu Shun in many ways, making him experience various difficult situations. He also married his two daughters, Emperor Huan and Empress Yv, to the area around the bend of the Gui River, so that they could live as wives in Yu Shun's family, thereby observing his methods of managing the household and governing within.

The year Jiayin, which corresponds to 2287 BCE, had no significant events. In the year Yimao, which was 2286 BCE, Shun reported that all the affairs he was entrusted with were successfully completed. Yu, the emperor, recommended Shun's virtue to heaven and officially appointed him as regent. In the year Bingchen, which was 2285 BCE, on a propitious day in the first lunar month, Shun received his official appointment in the ancestral temple of Yu. He used the astronomical instruments "Xuanji Yuheng" to measure the movements of seven celestial bodies: the sun, moon, and five planets. He performed the "Lai" sacrifice to the heavenly deities, the "Yin" sacrifice to the six ancestral gods, offered sacrifices to the mountains and rivers from afar, and worshipped all the deities. He collected the five sacred jade objects held by the feudal lords and distributed them to the various regions. He divided the land into twelve states and designated a sacred mountain for each state. He traveled the country according to the four seasons, standardizing the calculation of time, months, and days, unifying the musical scale, and setting standards for measurement. He established five types of rituals and depicted punishments as illustrations to serve as warnings. He exiled Gonggong to Youzhou, sent HuanDou to Chongshan, drove the Sanmiao to Sanwei, and executed Gun for his failure in flood control at Yu Mountain. These four individuals were properly dealt with, and the people across the land were convinced and pleased. From the year Dingsi to Guihai, which spanned seven years from 2284 BCE to 2278 BCE, there were no significant events.

The 2159th generation belongs to the Xu era, spanning from 2277 to 2248 BCE. The Jiazi year, 2277 BCE, was the ninth year of Yu Shun's regency. From Yichou to Guiyou, Jiaxu to Guiwei, and Jiashen to Yiyou, a total of twenty-two years were peaceful. In the year Bingxu, which was the first month of 2255 BCE on a propitious day, Shun officially ascended the throne in the ancestral temple of Yao, becoming the Son of Heaven. The state was named "Youyu Shi" and its capital was located at Pusan. He consulted the leaders of the four directions, opened the gates of the four directions to welcome talents, clarified the eyes of the four directions to observe affairs, and listened to the voices of the four directions. He also asked the governors of the twelve states about governance and appointed nine ministers: Bo Yu as the Minister of Works to manage earthworks, water conservancy, and construction, Ji as the Minister of Agriculture to oversee farming, Xi as the Minister of Education to manage moral instruction, Gao Yao as the Minister of Justice to handle legal matters, Chui as the Minister of Industry to supervise artisans, Yi as the Minister of Forestry to manage mountains, rivers, lakes, and marshes, Boyi as the Minister of Rituals, Kui as the Minister of Music, and Long as the Minister of Communication to convey the royal commands. These nine officials occupied the positions of the heads of various government departments. They were assessed every three years. Those who were incompetent were demoted, and those who were virtuous were promoted. Thus, all affairs became stable and successful. From Dinghai to Guisi, a period of seven years, from 2254 to 2248 BCE, was also peaceful.

The second thousand one hundred and sixtieth generation belongs to the亥 (Hai) era, spanning from 2247 to 2218 BCE, and is the final generation of the one hundred and eightieth cycle, ending with the巳 (Si) phase. The Jiawu year, 2247 BCE, was the thirty-ninth year of Yu Shun's reign. From Yiwei to Guimao, Jiachen to Guichou, and Jiayin and Yimao, a total of twenty-two years were peaceful. The Bingchen year, 2225 BCE, saw Shun seeking a successor, and because Da Yu had made great achievements in controlling the floods, he was recommended to heaven and given the position of regent. The Dingsi year, 2224 BCE, on the first day of the first lunar month, Yu received his appointment in the ancestral temple of Shun, known as "Shen Zong." He then began to manage the water and soil of the world, dividing the nine provinces, clearing the nine mountains, opening the nine rivers, and repairing the nine lakes, so that all rivers would flow into the four seas. He also organized the benefits of gold, wood, water, fire, soil, and grain, the "six granaries," and set tax rates according to the quality of the land, divided into upper, middle, and lower grades. Thus, the system of tribute and taxation in the Central Plains was established. From Wuwu to Guihai, six years, from 2223 to 2218 BCE, were peaceful.

Chapter Twenty-six of the Observing Things Section: Using the Heavenly Stems to Govern the World (The Heavenly Stem of the First Hundred and Eighty-first Cycle of the Heavenly Stem's Movement)

This passage remains within the first great cycle, but the count has advanced from the "巳" cycle to the "经会之午七" cycle, which is the seventh cycle of the "午" cycle. The "午" cycle encompasses the 181st to 210th cycles, and Shao Yong believed that his era was in the middle of the first great cycle. The "经运之甲一百八十一" refers to the 181st cycle of this great cycle, which spans from 2217 BC to 1858 BC. The twelve generations following this cycle begin with the 2161st generation. The first generation, the 2161st, spans from 2217 BC to 2188 BC. The year Jiazi, which is 2217 BC, marks the eighth year of King Yu of Xia's reign. From Yi Chou to Ren Shen, there were eight years of inactivity. The year Gui You, 2208 BC, was when the Emperor Yu of the Yu dynasty died during his southern tour. The year Jia Xu, 2207 BC, was when Yu established his capital at Anyi, later moved to Yangdi, and convened the feudal lords at Tusun, where the tribes bringing jade and silk to pay homage were said to number ten thousand. The Fengfeng clan was late and was executed by Yu. From Yi Hai to Ren Wu, there were eight years of inactivity. The year Gui Wei, 2198 BC, was when King Yu of Xia traveled east for inspection and died at Huiji Mountain, with his eldest son Qi succeeding him. The year Jia Shen, 2197 BC, was when Qi fought the Hu氏 clan at Gan in the outskirts of Gan, which is the battle recorded in the Book of Documents, the "Gan Shi." From Yi You to Xin Mao, there were seven years of inactivity. The year Ren Chen, 2189 BC, was when King Qi of Xia died, and his eldest son Taokang succeeded him. The year Gui Si had no events.

The 2162nd generation belongs to the Chou branch, spanning from 2187 BCE to 2158 BCE. The year Jiawu, which was 2187 BCE, was the second year of King Taikang of the Xia dynasty. From Yiwei to Guimao, Jiachen to Guichou, and Jiayin to Gengshen, a total of twenty-seven years were peaceful. The year Xinyou, which was 2160 BCE, marked the loss of the Xia kingdom by King Taikang. He indulged in hunting excessively, fleeing to the south of the Luo River for hunting and did not return to the capital for one hundred days. The leader of the Youqiu clan, Houyi, took advantage of the people's frustration and blocked Taikang's passage across the Yellow River, ultimately leading to Taikang's death outside the country. His son Zhongkang was then established as the ruler, but actual power had already fallen into Houyi's hands. The year Renxu, which was 2159 BCE, saw Zhongkang ordering Yinhou to attack Xi Shi and He Shi, the officials in charge of celestial phenomena, because they indulged in alcohol and neglected the calendar, failing to report solar eclipses. The 2163rd generation belongs to the Year of Yin, spanning from 2157 BCE to 2128 BCE. The Year of Jiazi, which was 2157 BCE, marks the third year of King Zhongkang of the Xia dynasty. From the Year of Yichou to the Year of Guiyou, there were nine years with no recorded events. The Year of Jiaxu, which was 2147 BCE, saw the death of King Zhongkang of Xia, and his son Jie succeeded him. At this time, Houyi held power, and Jie could not remain in the capital, so he had to rely on his fellow clan, the Zhengguan and Zhengxun clans, and reside with them. From the Year of Yihai to the Year of Guiwei, and from the Year of Jiashen to the Year of Guisi, there were twenty years during which only the heavenly stems and earthly branches were recorded, with no historical events. During this period, the Xia dynasty was in a low point, with the Qiong clan seizing power and the royal lineage declining.

From Yiwei to Xinchou, there were seven years of inactivity. The Renyin year, 2119 BCE, saw Hanzhuo, a loyal follower of Houyi, kill the leader of the Youqiong clan, Houyi, and seize his position. He then sent his sons Jiao and Yi to attack the Zhen Guan and Zhen Xun clans separately, eventually eliminating King Xiang of Xia who had taken refuge there. Xiang's former minister Mi fled to the Youge clan for safety, while Xiang's queen, the daughter of the Yuren clan, returned to her maternal home in the Yuren clan, where she gave birth to her unborn son Shao Kang. This preserved the remaining lineage of the Xia dynasty. From Guimao to Guichou, there were eleven years of inactivity, and from Jiayin to Guihai, there were ten years of inactivity.

The 2165th generation belongs to the Chen era, spanning from 2097 BCE to 2068 BCE. The Jiazi year was 2097 BCE, the year when Xia King Shao Kang was already twenty-three years old. At that time, the throne was still occupied by Han Zhuo, so the record does not mention the years of his reign but instead states "he was twenty-three years old." From Yichou to Guiyou and from Jiaxu to Xinsi, a total of seventeen years, there were no significant events. The Renwu year was 2079 BCE, when the loyal minister Mi of the Xia dynasty, starting from Youge, gathered the remaining forces of the states of Zhen Guan and Zhen Xun, and defeated Han Zhuo in one campaign, establishing Shao Kang as king. After Shao Kang's ascension, he eliminated Han Zhuo's son Jiao in the place of Guo, and his son Yi in the place of Ge, completely removing the Yuqiong clan. This period is known as the "Shao Kang Revival," and the legitimate lineage of the Xia dynasty was thus restored. The Guiwei year and the ten years from Jiashen to Guisi had no significant events.

The Gengshen year, 2041 BCE, marked the death of Xia King Zhu, and his son Huai succeeded him. The years Xinyou, Renxu, and Guihai lasted three years with no significant events.

The Bingxu year, 2015 BCE, marked the death of King Hui of Xia, and his son Mang succeeded him. From Dinghai to Guisi, seven years were peaceful. During this era, the Xia dynasty was stable, with no major events except for the succession of the throne. This shows that Shao Yong's chronology only recorded significant events concerning the rise and fall of the dynasty.

The year Gengshen, 1981 BCE, was the year King Xie of Xia died, and his son Bujiang succeeded him. The last three years were originally recorded as 'Xinyou, Renwu, Guihai', among which 'Renwu' is likely a clerical error for 'Renxu'. These three years had nothing significant.

The 2169th generation belongs to the Shen (Monkey) era, spanning from 1977 BC to 1948 BC. The first year, Jiazi, which was 1977 BC, was the fourth year of King Buchang's reign. The following nine years from Yichou to Guiyou, ten years from Jiaxu to Guiwei, and ten years from Jiashen to Guisi, making thirty years in total, had a well-ordered sequence of heavenly stems and earthly branches, yet no historical events are recorded, making it the most peaceful period of the middle Xia dynasty. The next 2170th generation belongs to the You (Rooster) era, spanning from 1947 BC to 1918 BC. The year Jiawu, which was 1947 BC, was the 34th year of King Buchang's reign. The following nine years from Yiwei to Guimao, ten years from Jiachen to Guichou, and five years from Jiayin to Wuwu, totaling twenty-five years, were also peaceful. The year Jiwei, which was 1922 BC, marked the death of King Buchang, who reigned for fifty-nine years, the longest reign of any Xia king. He did not pass the throne to his son Kongjia, but instead passed it to his brother Hong, an unusual case of brother succeeding brother in the Xia dynasty. The years Gengshen to Guihai, four years in total, were also peaceful.

From Xinsi to Guiwei, three years had no significant events, and from Jiashen to Guisi, ten years had no significant events. This generation also records only one change of kingship, indicating that since the middle of the Xia Dynasty's Shaoke revival, the Xia Dynasty has experienced a long period of maintaining the established order across several generations.

The year Jiawu, 1887 BC, was the fourteenth year of King Jǐn of Xia. From Yiwei to Gengzi, a period of six years, there was nothing significant. The year Xinchou, 1880 BC, marked the death of King Jǐn of Xia, and the throne returned to the branch of Bujiang, with his son Kongjia ascending the throne. Kongjia had a fondness for ghosts and spirits and enjoyed licentiousness, and the decline of the Xia dynasty began with him. The years Renyin and Guimao, followed by Jiachen to Guichou over ten years, and Jiayin to Guihai over another ten years, all had no significant events. The term 'Renwu' in the final section is still a homonym error for 'Renxu'. By this point, the 360 years of the 181st cycle were completed.

Despite opposition from the nobles, Banggeng led the people to migrate south across the river and returned to the old capital of Chengtang, Bo, and changed the state name to "Yin." The three chapters of the "Pan Geng" in the Book of Documents were the announcements he made to his subjects when he moved the capital. Eventually, he found a slave who was building a wall in Fu Rock and appointed him as prime minister. Because he was discovered in Fu Rock, he was given the surname Fu, known as Fu Yue. Under Fu Yue's assistance, Wu Ding governed the world well, known as the "Wu Ding Revival," which was the most prosperous period of the Shang dynasty.
