嘗聞命之理微，鮮有知之真而順受之者。余謂功名富貴，有命存焉，遂捐厥職，訪道學者，以為之宗。行抵華山下，詢知希夷公曾得道於茲矣。

I have heard that the principles of destiny are subtle and obscure, and few people truly understand them and accept their arrangements with a level heart. I believe that fame and wealth each have their heavenly mandate, so I resigned from my official post and went to seek out those who study alchemy and divination, hoping to find a master to follow. When I arrived at the foot of Mount Hua, I learned that the recluse Master Chen Tuan had once attained enlightenment in cultivation on this mountain.

因陟其巔，謁其祠。將返，見一道者，年須弱冠，態度老誠，遂進禮。承出書示予，予問之，曰：“希夷公《紫微斗數》集也。”始觀排列星辰，猶不省其奧窔；既讀其論，論則有道理；玩其斷，斷則有神。即以賤降試之，果毫髮不爽。

So I climbed to the top of the mountain and paid homage at the shrine of Chen Tuan. Just as I was about to return, I saw a hermit of about twenty years old, yet his demeanor was mature and sincere. I approached him and paid my respects. He then took out a book and showed it to me. I asked what kind of book it was, and he said, "This is the 'Ziwei Doushu' compiled by Master Xiyi Chen Tuan." At first, I only saw the book filled with stars and celestial bodies, but I could not grasp its profound meaning. However, after reading the discussions in the book, I found that each point made sense. Upon further reflection on its interpretations, I realized they were extremely accurate. I immediately tried using my own birth date to predict the future, and the results were spot on.

於是喟然嘆曰：“造化至玄而闡明之，若對鑑焉，非心涵造化能之乎？星辰至遠，而指視之若運掌，然非胸藏星斗者能之乎？天位乎上，地位乎下，而人則藐然於中者，先生則以天合之人，人合之天，即星辰之變化而知人命之休咎，是非學貫天人而一之者，又孰能之乎？

I sighed deeply and said, "The workings of heaven and earth are originally extremely profound and mysterious. This book, however, explains them clearly and distinctly, like seeing clearly in a mirror. If one does not possess in his heart the principles of creation and transformation, how could he achieve this? The stars are extremely distant from the human world, yet this book points them out as if they were arranged on one's palm. If one does not have the entire sky's constellations stored in his mind, how could he do this? Heaven is above, earth is below, and humans are small beings between them. Yet Master Xiyi is able to harmonize heavenly ways with human affairs and human affairs with heavenly ways, using the changes of stars to foresee the good fortune, misfortune, and destiny of a person's entire life. If it is not someone who has integrated the knowledge of heaven and humanity and can unify heaven and humanity as one, who else could do this?"

猗歟休哉！先生真高人也，神人也。不然胡為乎而有是高志！又胡為乎而有是神數也！”予乃捧持之，遍示天下，俾世之人知有命而順受之可也。胡乃祖作之，而子秘之，則繼述之道安在哉？請志予言，以弁是書之首。時陳子去希夷公一十八代，諱道號“瞭然”，年方二十有六。

What an admirable thing! Master Xiyi is truly a great person, a divine being. Otherwise, how could he have such lofty aspirations and created such a marvelous system of divination? I then took this book in my hands and intended to make it known to the world, so that all people would understand that life is subject to destiny, and thus accept the arrangements of fate calmly. If our ancestors had written this book but their descendants concealed it and kept it secret, where would the principle of continuing their legacy be? I request that the above words be recorded and placed at the beginning of this book as a preface. At that time, the Daoist man named Chen was already eighteen generations apart from Master Xiyi, his Daoist name was "Le Ran," and he was only twenty-six years old.

時嘉靖庚戌春三月既望之吉，賜進士及第吉水羅洪先撰。

On this auspicious day in the spring of the third month of the sixteenth day of the Gengxu year of the Ming Emperor Jiajing's twenty-ninth year, Luo Hongxian, who had passed the imperial examination as a jinshi and was from Jixishui in Jiangxi, wrote this preface.

斗數至玄至微，理旨難明，雖設問於百篇之中，猶有言而未盡。至如星之分野，各有所屬，壽夭賢愚，富貴貧賤，不可一概論議。其星分佈一十二垣，數定乎三十六位，入廟為奇，失度為虛。大抵以身命為福德之本，加以根源為窮通之資。

The study of Purple Micro Astrology is extremely profound and subtle, with its principles and meanings difficult to fully explain. Even after repeated questions and answers in hundreds of discussions, there are still things that cannot be fully expressed. As for the areas each star governs, they all have their own specific domains: lifespan length, innate talent and intelligence, and the fortune of being rich or poor, noble or humble. These cannot be universally explained by a single set of principles. The stars are distributed across twelve palace positions, namely the Palace of Destiny, Brothers, Spouse, Children, Wealth, Illness, Migration, Servants, Officialdom, Property, Fortune Virtue, and Parents. The strength of the stars is also determined by their positions in thirty-six different ranks, such as Temple, Prosperity, Favorable, and Decline. When a star is placed in the most suitable palace, it is called "entering the Temple," which is a rare good configuration. When a star is placed in an unsuitable palace, it is called "losing its measure," and its power becomes ineffective. In general, predicting a person's fate is based on the "Palace of Destiny" and "Body Palace" as the fundamental indicators of one's fortune, along with the Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch of the birth year as the root for judging one's life's success or hardship.

星有同躔，數有分定，須明其生克之要，必詳乎得垣失度之分。觀乎紫微舍躔，司一天儀之象，率列宿而成垣。土星苟居其垣，若可移動；金星專司財庫，最怕空亡。帝星動則列宿奔馳，貪守空而財源不聚。各司其職，不可參差。苟或不察其機，更忘其變，則數之造化遠矣。

Stars may occupy the same palace or move along the same degree, yet each has a fixed limit in destiny. Therefore, it is essential to understand the key principle of the Five Phases and to distinguish whether a star is "in its proper palace" (得垣) or "out of its proper place" (失度). The Purple Emperor star (紫微) governs the day's image and leads all stars, forming its own palace. Although the Earthly Purple Emperor, which belongs to Earth, resides in its native palace, its position still moves according to the arrangement of the destiny chart. The Wealth and General star (武曲), which belongs to Metal, is responsible for the treasury and is most afraid of encountering "Kongwang" (空亡), which refers to positions such as Void Malefic (地空) and Plunder Malefic (地劫) where things fall short. When the Purple Emperor star moves, all other stars follow and change accordingly. If the Greedy Wolf star (贪狼) is located in a Kongwang position, wealth cannot be accumulated. Each star has its own duty and should not be confused or mixed. If someone interpreting a destiny chart fails to grasp the underlying principles and forgets to adapt according to the chart's configuration, they are far from the true essence of the system of star divination.

例曰：祿逢沖破，吉處藏凶。馬遇空亡，終身奔走。生逢敗地，發也虛花。絕處逢生，生花不敗。星臨廟旺，再觀生克之機。命坐強宮，細察制化之理。

For example, if the Wealth-salary star or a transformed Wealth-salary star is attacked by a malevolent star, a place that was originally auspicious may conceal danger; if the Star of movement meets Kongwang, one will be constantly moving and striving throughout life but will not achieve tangible results. If the destiny and body fall into a place of decline among the Five Phases, even if success is achieved, it will be like a fleeting flower, ultimately empty. Conversely, if one is in a place of absolute decline but encounters generation and support, it is like a flower that blooms but does not wither, capable of turning failure into success. When a star is in a flourishing position, one must also consider the principles of the Five Phases interactions among the stars in the same palace; when the命宫 is in a strong and prosperous palace, one must carefully examine the principles of mutual restriction and transformation within it.

日月最嫌反背，祿馬最喜交馳。倘居空亡，得失最為要緊。若逢敗地，扶持大有奇功。紫微天府全依輔弼之功，七殺破軍專依羊鈴之虐。諸星吉，逢凶也吉。諸星凶，逢凶也凶。

The Sun and the Moon, represented by the stars Taiyang and Taiyin, most dislike being in opposition, meaning Taiyang falling into the night palace and Taiyin falling into the day palace, where their radiance cannot be displayed. The starsWealth-salary star, 化禄, and Star of movement prefer to meet each other, meaning the禄 star and the马 star being in the same palace or mutually shining upon each other, which indicates a flourishing and flowing source of wealth. If the命身 falls into the Kongwang position, distinguishing between gain and loss becomes most important. If it falls into a declining position, then receiving support from auspicious stars can lead to extraordinary achievements. The two noble stars, Ziwēi and Tianfu, rely entirely on the auxiliary auspicious stars Zuofu and Youbi to display their functions. The two fierce stars, Qishash and Pojun, depend solely on Qingyang and Lingxing to carry out their harsh effects. Originally auspicious stars, even when encountering malevolent stars, can still turn to auspiciousness; originally malevolent stars, when encountering more malevolent stars, will become even more harmful.

輔弼夾帝為上品，桃花犯主為至淫。君臣慶會，材善經邦。魁鉞同行，位居臺輔。祿文拱命，貴而且賢。日月夾財，不權則富。馬頭帶劍，鎮衛邊疆。刑囚夾印，刑杖惟司。善蔭朝綱，仁慈之長。貴入貴鄉，逢之富貴。財居財位，遇者富奢。

Left and right ministers flanking the Emperor star Ziwēi indicate an excellent configuration; if the Tao Hua stars such as Tān Láng, Lián Zhēn, Tiān Náo, and Hóng Luán confront the Emperor star Ziwēi, the person is extremely licentious. When Ziwēi is joined by the Treasury star Tàifǔ, the Seal star Tiānxiāng, Left Minister Zuǒfǔ, and Right Minister Yòubì, it is called "Emperor and Ministers Celebrating Together," and such a person possesses the ability to govern the country and manage state affairs. When the Yang Benefactor Tiānkuí and Yin Benefactor Tiānyuè move together, the person holds a high position equivalent to the Star of Conferment. When the Wealth-Salary star Lùcún, transformed wealth Huàlù, and the Star of Examinations and Documents Wénchuāng, along with the Star of Talent and Eloquence Wénqū, illuminate the命宫 (Destiny Palace), the person is both distinguished and virtuous. When the Star of Brightness and Prestige Tàiyáng and the Wealth Star and Mother Star Tàiyīn are positioned before and after the Wealth Palace, the person may not hold power but will certainly be wealthy. When the Star of Movement Tiānmǎ is in the Wǔ palace and meets the Malefic of Injury Qíngyáng, it is called "Horse Head with Sword," indicating the person holds a military post to guard the borders. When the Star of Punishment Tiāngxíng and Lián Zhēn (transformed into imprisonment) flank the transformed official star Tiānxiāng (transformed into seal), it is called "Punishment and Imprisonment Flanking Seal," indicating the person specializes in administering punishments and corporal penalties. When the Star of Wisdom and Adaptability Tiānjī (transformed into kindness) and the Longevity Star Tiānliáng (transformed into荫庇) are in the position of the government, the person is a benevolent and kind elder. When noble stars enter noble palaces, they indicate wealth and status; when the wealth star is in the wealth palace, it indicates great wealth and extravagance.

太陽居午，謂之日麗中天，有專權之貴，敵國之富。太陰居子，號曰水澄桂萼，得清要之職，忠諫之材。紫微輔弼同宮，一呼百諾居上品。文耗居寅卯，謂之眾水朝東。

The Sun is located in theWu Palace, which is the time when the sun is at its zenith, called "the sun shining over the sky." This indicates that the person holds supreme power and possesses immense wealth. The Moon is located in theZi Palace, which is the time when the night moon is bright and the water is still, called "clear water with fragrant osmanthus." This indicates that the person can attain a prestigious and important position, and is a person who dares to speak frankly and give advice. When the Purple Micro and Left Assistant and Right Assistant stars are in the same palace, the person can command the obedience of many, which is considered an excellent configuration. The water star, Wen Qu, and the broken army star, which transforms into a consuming force, are located in theYin Palace andMao Palace, which belong to wood. Water nourishes wood and flows eastward without returning, called "many waters flowing east." This indicates that the person's aspirations follow the current and are difficult to maintain, and their wealth flows away like water.

日月守不如照合，蔭福聚不怕凶危。貪居亥子，名為犯水桃花。刑遇貪狼，號曰風流彩杖。七殺廉貞同位，路上埋尸。破軍暗曜同鄉，水中作冢。

The stars Sun and Moon are more powerful when they shine from the opposite palace or meet in the triple harmony palace rather than sitting in their native palace. The star Tianliang, which brings protection, and Tian Tong, which brings blessings, when gathered together, are not afraid of malevolent stars coming to clash. When Tanlang falls in the亥 or 子 palace, which belong to water, it is called 'water Taohua' or 'floating water Taohua', indicating a person who is lustful and unrestrained. When Tianxing meets Tanlang, it is called 'flowery staff', indicating a person who suffers punishment due to romantic affairs. When Qishash and Lianzhen are in the same palace, the person is at risk of a sudden death on the road or being found dead on the way. When Pojun is in the same palace as Jiumen, which has an ominous nature, the person is at risk of drowning and being buried in water.

祿居奴僕縱有官也奔馳，帝遇兇徒雖獲吉而無道。帝坐金車則曰金輿捧櫛，福安文曜謂之玉袖天香。太陽會文昌於官祿，皇殿朝班，富貴全美。太陰會文曲於妻宮，蟾宮折桂，文章全盛。

Lúcun falls in the Servant's House, even if one becomes an official, he will spend his days running errands and laboring for others; the Emperor Star (Ziwei) meeting a group of凶stars and evil influences, even if auspicious, results in a tyrannical ruler. Ziwei sitting in the Golden Car position is called "Jinyu Pengzhi," meaning the owner is supported and revered by others, thus achieving prominence. The Fortune Virtue House hosting stars like Wen Chang and Wen Qu, called "Yuxiu Tianxiang," means the owner is refined, elegant, and renowned for literary achievements. The Sun Star meeting Wen Chang in the Official's House means the owner can be listed among the court officials and stand in the golden palace, possessing both wealth and honor. The Taiyin Star meeting Wen Qu in the Spouse's House means the owner achieves success in the imperial examinations, excelling in literary fame.

祿存守于田財，堆金積玉。財蔭坐於遷移，鉅商高賈。耗居祿位，沿途乞食。貪會旺宮，終身鼠竊。殺居絕地，天年夭似顏回。貪坐生鄉，壽考永如彭祖。

The Wealth-Salary StarWealth-salary star residing in the Field and Residence宫 or the Wealth宫 indicates that the person accumulates great wealth and has a prosperous family business. The Wealth StarWealth star and general star and the荫 StarShelter star and longevity star sitting in the Migration宫 indicate that the person is a great merchant who travels extensively. The Expenditure StarExpenditure star and vanguard star with a耗气 transformation falling in the Official Position宫 indicates that the person experiences decline and hardship, living a life of begging on the road. The Star of Romance and DesireStar of romance and desire sitting in a旺宫 with no auspicious stars to restrain it indicates that the person is cunning and deceitful, acting like thieves. The General StarGeneral star and star of severity falling in the绝地 of the Five Phases indicates a short lifespan, like Yan Hui, a disciple of Confucius, who died at the age of thirty-two. The Star of Romance and DesireStar of romance and desire sitting in the Growth地 of the Five Phases indicates a long lifespan, like Peng Zhu, who lived a long life.

忌暗同居身命疾厄，沉困尪羸，凶星會於父母遷移，刑傷破祖。刑殺同廉貞於官祿，枷杻難逃，官符加刑殺於遷移，離鄉遭配。善福居空位，天竺生涯。輔弼單守命宮，離宗庶出。

When the afflicted star and the dark star, which is also considered an evil influence, fall together in the body palace, the native suffers from chronic illness and appears weak and frail. Malevolent stars shining on the parents' palace and the migration palace indicate harm to relatives and destruction of ancestral property. If the star of punishment, the severe general star, and the star of integrity are all in the official palace, the native is doomed to suffer from imprisonment or punishment. If the official symbol is combined with the star of punishment and the severe general star in the migration palace, the native will be exiled or sent away. When the star of wisdom and adaptability and the star of blessings fall in the kongwang position, the native is likely to have a connection with Buddhism and Taoism, living a life of asceticism like a monk from India. If either the auxiliary auspicious star is alone in the native palace without a pair, the native is often from a different family or is a son from a secondary wife.

七殺臨於身命加惡殺，必定死亡。鈴羊合於命宮遇白虎，須當刑戮。官府發於吉曜，流殺怕逢破軍。羊陀憑太歲以引行，病符官符皆作禍。奏書博士與流祿，盡作吉祥。力士將軍同青龍，顯其權勢。

If the Seven Killers are in the body palace and the命 palace, along with evil malefics, it will certainly lead to a violent death. If the Bell Star and the Malefic of Injury conjoin the命 palace and meet the White Tiger Star, there will certainly be punishment and killing. If the Official Star joins with auspicious stars, its harmful effects can be mitigated. The malefics of the current year are most dangerous when they meet the Expenditure Star. The Malefic of Injury and the Malefic of Delay and Entanglement only cause trouble when activated by the Tai Sui Star. The Bingfu and Guanfu Stars will bring misfortune. The Renshu and Boshi Stars joining theWealth-salary star of the current year will all indicate good fortune. The Lishi and General Stars accompanying the Azure Dragon will show the person to have power and authority.

童子限如水上泡漚，老人限似風中燃燭。遇殺無制乃流年最忌，人生榮辱限元必有休咎，處世孤貧數中逢乎駁雜，學至此誠玄微矣。

The destiny limits experienced by children are as fragile and fleeting as bubbles on water; those experienced by the elderly are like a candle burning in the wind, always in danger of being extinguished. Encountering a malevolent star without a beneficial star to counteract it is the most dreaded situation in the current year. A person's glory and disgrace throughout their life are clearly indicated at the beginning of each destiny limit; a person's hardship and poverty in life is precisely because their fate has encountered a mixture of good and bad, clear and turbid patterns. Only when one understands this level can one truly grasp the profound and subtle aspects of the star divination system.

原夫紫微帝座，生為厚重之容。天府尊星，也作純和之體。金烏圓滿，玉兔清奇。天機為不長不短之姿，情懷好善。武曲乃至要至緊之操，心性果決。天同肥滿，目秀清奇。廉貞眉寬，口闊面橫，為人性暴，好忿好爭。

The Emperor star, Ziwēi, when seated in the命宫, gives a person a dignified and steady appearance. The Treasury star, Tiānfǔ, when seated in the命宫, gives a person a pure and peaceful demeanor. The Sun star, Sūnghuáng (anciently known as Jīnwū), when seated in the命宫, gives a person a full and round face. The Moon star, Tàiyīn (anciently known as Yùtù), when seated in the命宫, gives a person a clear and elegant appearance. The Wisdom star, Tiānjī, when seated in the命宫, gives a person a medium height, and a nature inclined towards doing good deeds. The Wealth and General star, Wūqū, when seated in the命宫, gives a person an extremely strict and serious character, with a strong and decisive nature. The Blessing star, Tiāntóng, when seated in the命宫, gives a person a full body and clear, elegant eyes. The廉贞 star, when seated in the命宫, gives a person broad eyebrows, a large mouth and wide face, with a temper that is easily angered, fond of quarrels and conflicts.

貪狼為善惡之星，入廟必應長聳，出垣必定頑囂。巨門乃是非之曜，在廟敦厚溫良。天相精神，天梁穩重，心事玉潔冰清。七殺如子路暴虎馮河，火鈴似豫讓吞炭裝啞。暴虎馮河兮目太兇狠，吞炭裝啞兮暗狼聲沉。

The Star of Romance and Desire can be either benevolent or malevolent. When it is in its proper position, the person will certainly be tall and upright. But when it is out of its native place and falls into a place of loss, the person will certainly be unruly and noisy. The Star of Speech governs disputes and verbal conflicts—here, "is or is not" does not refer to questions of truth or falsehood, but rather to arguments and criticism from others. When the Star of Speech is in its proper position, the person tends to be sincere and kind. Those with the Star of Livelihood in their destiny appear radiant and vigorous. Those with the Star of Shelter and Longevity in their destiny are steady and composed, with a heart as pure as jade and a mind as clear as ice. Those with the Star of Severity in their destiny are as brave as Zilu, a disciple of Confucius, who could wrestle a tiger barehanded and cross a river on foot, fearless of danger. Those with the Malefic of Violence and the Hidden-Fire Malefic in their destiny are like Yuangang, the assassin, who would swallow soot to muffle his voice and pretend to be mute, concealing their intentions deeply. Those who wrestle tigers barehanded and cross rivers on foot have especially fierce eyes. Those who swallow soot and pretend to be mute have dark thoughts and a low, muffled voice.

俊雅文昌眉清目秀，磊落文曲口舌便佞，在廟定生異痣，失陷必有斑痕。左輔右弼溫良規模，端莊高士。天魁天鉞具足威儀，重合三臺則十全模範。

Those with the Wen Chang star in their destiny are handsome and refined, with clear eyebrows and bright eyes. Those with the Wen Qu star are free-spirited and upright, eloquent and persuasive in speech. When these two stars are in a strong and favorable position, they usually have distinctive birthmarks on their bodies. When they are in a weak and unfavorable position, they are sure to have scars on their bodies. Those with the Zuo Fu and You Bi stars in their destiny are gentle and kind, with proper manners and behavior, being dignified and refined gentlemen. Those with the Tian Kui and Tian Yue stars in their destiny have great presence and authority. If these two stars are combined with the San Tai star, they become perfect role models.

擎羊陀羅，形丑貌粗，有矯詐體態。破軍不仁，背重眉寬，行坐腰斜奸詐好行驚險。性貌如春和藹，乃是祿存之情德。情懷似火鋒沖，此誠破耗之威權。

Those with the star Malefic of injury in their destiny have an ugly and rough appearance, and their mannerisms carry an air of deceit and cunning. Those with the star Expenditure star and vanguard star in their destiny are unkind-hearted, have a thick back and broad eyebrows, and when they walk or sit, their waist is crooked. They are deceitful and enjoy taking risks. Those whose nature and appearance are as warm and approachable as spring are endowed with the virtue of theWealth-salary star star. Those whose hearts are as sharp and aggressive as a flame and a blade display the formidable power of theExpenditure star and vanguard star star, which is a consuming star.

星論廟旺最怕空亡，殺落空亡竟無威力。權祿乃九竅之奇，耗積散平生之福。祿逢梁蔭抱私財益與他人，耗遇貪狼浽淫情於井底。貪星入於馬垣易善易惡，惡曜扶同善曜稟性不常。

Discussing the strength and effectiveness of stars, the most feared is encountering Kongwang. However, if a malefic star falls into Kongwang, it loses its power and becomes harmless. The transformation of authority and wealth can make a person's senses and mind exceptionally sharp. The star of expenditure, however, gradually dissipates a person's fortune over a lifetime. When the wealth-salary star meets the shelter and longevity star, it often means keeping one's private wealth and giving it away to others. When the expenditure star meets the star of romance and desire, it leads to indulgence in improper desires, like falling into a well and unable to escape. When the star of romance and desire falls into the position of the Star of Movement, a person tends to easily change from good to bad. When malefic and benefic stars are mixed and support each other, a person's nature becomes inconsistent and fickle.

財居空亡巴三覽四，文曲旺宮聞一知十。暗合廉貞為貪濫之曹吏。身命司數實奸盜之技兒，豬屠之流。善祿定是奇高之藝細巧，伶俐之人。

The wealth star falling in the Kongwang position indicates a person who is scattered in their actions, looking around in all directions and unable to focus. When the star of talent and eloquence is in a flourishing palace, the person is exceptionally intelligent, able to infer ten parts from one. The dark star, which combines with the star of integrity, often represents a petty official who is greedy and takes more than they should. When such stars govern the body palace or the destiny palace, they indicate people who are cunning and dishonest, perhaps thieves or butchers. The star of wisdom and adaptability, when shared with the wealth-salary star, indicates a person with superb skills, meticulous craftsmanship, and a sharp mind.

男居生旺最要得地，女居死絕專看福德。命最嫌立於敗位，財源卻怕逢空亡。機刑殺蔭孤星論嗣續之宮加惡星忌耗，不為奇特。陀耗囚之星守父母之纏，決然破祖刑傷。兼之童格宜相，根基要察。

For a male's destiny, if it is located in the positions of growth and prosperity, the most important thing is that the stars should be strong and effective. For a female's destiny, if it is located in the positions of death and isolation, the focus should be on the quality of the fortune virtue palace. The native's destiny palace should be most avoided from being in a position of decline. The wealth palace should be most cautious about encountering kongwang. Stars such as tianji, tianxing, qishash, and tianliang, which carry the meaning of isolation and hardship, if they are located in the children's palace, which is the main position for descendants, and combined with bad stars, transformed evils, and the consuming star of puju, the matter of descendants will not have anything extraordinary. 紫微帝座以輔弼為佐，貳作數中之主星乃有用之源流。是以南北二斗集而成數，為萬物之靈。蓋以水淘溶，則陰陽既濟，水盛陽傷，火盛陰滅，二者不可偏廢，故知其中者，斯為美矣。

Therefore, those who can grasp the balance between them are considered truly skilled.

寅乃木之垣，乃三陽交泰之時，草木萌芽之所，至於卯位，其木至旺矣。貪狼天機是廟樂，故得天相水到寅為之旺相，巨門水得卯為之疏通。木乃土栽培，加以水之澆灌，三方更得文曲水破軍水相會尤妙，又加祿存土極美矣。

TheYin Palace belongs to wood, which is the time of the beginning of the three yangs in the first month, the place where grass and trees begin to sprout. When reaching theMao Palace, the energy of wood becomes extremely strong. The wood-related stars Star of romance and desire and Star of wisdom and adaptability are in their flourishing state here. Therefore, the water-related star Seal star and star of livelihood becomes prosperous and strong in theYin Palace, and the water-related star Dark star and star of speech becomes smooth and unobstructed in theMao Palace. Wood relies on earth for cultivation and also needs water for irrigation. If the three harmonious positions, which are the trigrams forming the triple harmony with this palace, also have the water-related stars Star of talent and eloquence and Expenditure star and vanguard star to support, it becomes especially excellent. Adding the earth-related star Wealth-salary star makes it even more perfect.

巨門水到丑，天梁土到未，陀羅金到於四墓之所，苟或得擎羊金相會，以土為金墓，則金通不凝。加以天府土天同金以生之，是為金趁土肥，順其德以生成。

申酉金乃西方太白之氣，武曲居申而好生，擎羊在酉而用殺，加以巨門、祿存、陀羅而助之愈急，須得逆行，逢善化惡是為妙用。

The metal star Wǔqū is located in the Shēn palace and tends to promote growth and nourishment, while the metal star Qíngyáng is placed in the Yǒu palace and specializes in causing destruction and conflict. With the assistance of Jùmén, Lùcún, and Tuóluó, the metal energy becomes even more intense and sharp. At this time, it is necessary to reverse the direction and restrain it, allowing benevolent stars to neutralize its harmful effects, which is considered a skillful application.

亥水屬文曲破軍之要地，乃文明清高之士，萬里派源之潔，如大川之澤不為焦枯。居於亥位將入天河，是故為妙。破軍水於子旺之鄉，如巨海之浪淜洶湧，可遠觀而不可近倚，破軍是以居焉。若四墓之克，充其瀰漫，必得武曲之金使其源流不絕方為妙矣。其餘諸星以身命推之，無施不可至玄至妙者矣。

TheHai Palace belongs to water, being the essential place for the Star of talent and eloquence and Expenditure star and vanguard star stars, both of which are water stars. The person with this position is one of literary brilliance and noble character, like the pure source of a long river, and also like a great river or lake that nourishes without causing dryness. The water star is located in the亥 position, about to flow into the Milky Way, hence it is considered excellent. TheExpenditure star and vanguard star star is also a water star, situated in theZi Palace, which is the flourishing land of water. It is like the mighty waves of the sea, powerful and overwhelming, suitable only for distant observation rather than close approach. Therefore, theExpenditure star and vanguard star star is at ease in the子 position. If it is restrained by the earth of the辰, 戌, 丑, or 未, the water flow becomes blocked and floods, at which time the Wealth star and general star metal star is needed to generate water, ensuring the continuous flow of the source, which is considered excellent. The other stars should be placed in the body palace and the命宫 according to this principle, and there is no place where this does not apply. The underlying principles are truly profound and mysterious.

命居生旺定富貴，各有所宜。身坐空亡論榮枯，專求其要。紫微帝座在南極不能施功，天府令星在南地專能為福。天機七殺同宮也善三分，太陰火鈴同位反成十惡。貪狼為善宿入廟不凶，巨門為惡曜得垣尤美。

If the身宫 is located in the position ofKongwang, then one should examine the entire life's fortunes and misfortunes from this position, focusing on its key aspects. 諸凶在緊要之鄉最宜制克，若在身命之位卻受孤單。若見殺星倒限最凶，福廕臨之庶幾可解。大抵在人之機變，更加作意之推詳。辨生剋制化以定窮通，看好惡正偏以言禍福。

Distinguishing the generation, control, and transformation of the Five Phases is used to determine one's life of prosperity or hardship; recognizing the goodness, evil, correctness, or bias of the stars is used to predict fortune or misfortune.

官星居於福地近貴榮財，福星居於官宮卻成無用。身命得星為要，限度遇吉為榮。若言子媳有無，專在擎羊耗殺。逢之則害妻妾亦然。相貌逢凶必帶破相，疾厄逢忌定有尪羸。須言定數以求玄，更在同年之相合，總為綱領用作準繩。

If the appearance宫 encounters malevolent stars, the person will certainly have a disfigured appearance; if the illness and injury宫 encounters a transformed inauspicious star, the body will certainly be weak and prone to illness. One must first clarify the predetermined fate in the birth chart before proceeding to explore its subtleties, and also refer to the actual situations of people born in the same year for verification. All these points are the main principles of the entire book, serving as a standard for deduction.

白玉蟾先生曰：觀天斗數與五星不同，按此星辰與諸術大異。四正吉星定為貴，三方殺拱少為奇。對照兮詳凶詳吉，合照兮觀賤觀榮。吉星入垣則為吉，凶星失地則為凶。

The so-called "Four Pillars" refer to the four main positions: the命宫 (Destiny Palace), its opposite palace, the wealth palace, and the official position palace. The so-called "Three Directions" refer to the two palaces of wealth and official position that form a triple harmony with the destiny palace. Within the four pillars, if there are auspicious stars, it can be judged as a noble destiny; if the three directions are dominated by malevolent stars, there will be few extraordinary benefits. The stars shining from the opposite palace should be carefully discerned as either凶 (malevolent) or吉 (auspicious); the stars that meet in the triple harmony should reveal whether a person is of low status or honored. If auspicious stars fall in suitable palaces, auspicious outcomes will follow; if malevolent stars fall in weak positions, malevolent outcomes will follow.

命逢紫微非特壽而且榮，身遇殺星不但貧而且賤。左右會於紫府極品之尊，科權陷於凶鄉功名蹭蹬。行限逢乎弱地未必為災，立命會在強宮必能降福。

羊陀七殺限運莫逢，逢之定有刑傷。（劫空傷使在內合斷）天哭喪門流年莫遇，遇之實防破害。南斗主限必生男，北斗加臨先得女。科星居於陷地，燈火辛勤。昌曲在於凶鄉，林泉冷淡。

The stars Qingyang, Tuoluo, and Qishan should be avoided as much as possible during their periods, as encountering them is sure to bring about injuries and punishments. (The stars Dijiao, Dikong, Tianshang, and Tianshi can also be grouped together for interpretation.) If Huake falls in an adverse position, scholars can only study alone by the light of a lamp and struggle to achieve success. If Wenqiang and Wenqu fall in areas where malevolent stars gather, one can only retreat to the mountains and forests, living a solitary and quiet life.

奸謀頻設，紫微愧遇破軍。淫奔大行，紅鸞差逢貪宿。命身相剋，則心亂而不閒。玄媼三宮，則邪淫而耽酒。（即天姚星）殺臨三位，定然妻子不和。巨到二宮，必是兄弟無義。

Frequently setting up cunning schemes indicates that the Emperor star is unfortunate to meet the Expenditure star, causing the Emperor star to be disgraced. Immoral and unrestrained behavior arises when the Hongluan spirit mistakenly encounters the Taohua star, the Star of Romance and Desire. When the Five Phases of the命宫 and身宫 are in mutual control, the person's mind becomes restless and unable to find peace. The Xuan'ao star, which is the Tianyao star, falling in the third house, the marriage house, leads the person to be lustful and addicted to alcohol. The Seven Killings star entering the third house, the marriage house, results in inevitable discord between wife and children. The Ji Men star falling in the second house, the brother house, causes brothers to lack affection and loyalty towards each other.

刑殺守子宮，子難奉老。諸凶照財帛，聚散無常。羊陀守疾厄，眼目昏盲。火鈴到遷移，長途寂寞。尊星列賤位，主人多勞。惡星應八宮，奴僕無助。官祿遇紫府，富而且貴。田宅遇破軍，先破後成。福德遇空劫，奔走無力。相貌加刑殺，刑剋難免。後學者執此推詳，萬無一失。

The official position宫 encountering the Emperor star and the Treasury star signifies both wealth and status. The property宫 encountering the Expenditure star suggests initial destruction of family fortune followed by eventual success. The fortune virtue宫 encountering the Void malefic and the Plunder malefic indicates constant effort with little result. The appearance宫 combined with Heavenly punishment and the General star inevitably leads to injuries and harm. Those who study this should follow these principles to ensure accuracy.
