On the Repository and Burial Grounds

Charting guides: Chinese Almanac, Chinese Perpetual Calendar

The essay says: Those who have wealth stored in their warehouses have thousands of granaries and ten thousands of chests; those who fall into a dead end with no support have one hundred plans but none succeed. This is because the burial ground of the Five Phases is its warehouse: if one's destiny includes a warehouse and meets the element that the Tai Sui (Great Year) overcomes, it is called 'wealth in the warehouse', and such people will certainly have abundant family resources; conversely, if one's destiny includes a burial ground and meets the element that the Tai Sui fears, it is called 'no support in the dead end', and such people will certainly be blocked and stagnant everywhere.

Specifically, those who have wealth in the warehouse are: people with a wood destiny get Xinwei, people with a fire destiny get Gengxu, people with a earth destiny get Renchen, people with a water destiny get Jiachen, and people with a metal destiny get Guichou. Those who are helpless in desperate situations are: people with a wood destiny get Yiwei, people with a fire destiny get Renxu, people with a earth destiny get Wuchen, people with a metal destiny get Jichou, and people with a water destiny get Bingchen. This passage is from the "Hu Zhong Zi."

When the positions of year, birth, month, day, and hour are all calculated to fall on the repository or tomb in the process of divination, this forms a particular pattern. If the entire configuration is pure and not damaged, and if auspicious deities are present, it indicates a pattern of two officials governing; if it is broken but still in a state of birth or prosperity, and accompanied by various auspicious deities, it suggests the ability to hold a position responsible for managing finances and grain, or a pattern of two officials at the first level. If it is broken and there is mutual conflict among the elements, but there are auspicious deities present, one can still hold an official position, though it will be accompanied by many difficulties, and the position may be either a central government post or a local official position. The judgment should be made according to the relative importance of the elements. If there is mutual conflict and destruction, and no auspicious deities are present, then it should be considered as the pattern of a wealthy commoner. However, regardless of whether one is high or low in status, such patterns rely solely on personal achievement. Although they may bring honor and prosperity, they are not beneficial to the six relations, and descendants are also difficult to obtain. This passage is from the "Lin Kai Wu Ming."

Xuanchē shā

The configuration and respective taboos for Xuan Che Sha (轩车杀) are as follows: Those born on Jia or Yi days encounter Xin Wei as Xuan Che Sha, and it is most忌 to see Dingsi again. The Sheng Bai Jing (神白经) states that the time pillar should avoid Dingsi and Ji. Those born on Bing or Ding days encounter Ren Xu, and it is忌 to see Wuyin. The Sheng Bai Jing states that the time pillar should avoid Wu and Geng. Those born on Wu or Ji days encounter Jiachen, and it is忌 to see Gengyin. The Sheng Bai Jing states that the time pillar should avoid Geng and Yi. Those born on Geng or Xin days encounter Dingshou, and it is忌 to see Guisi. The Sheng Bai Jing states that the time pillar should avoid Guisi and Yi. Those born on Ren or Gui days encounter Wuchen, and it is忌 to see Jiayin. The Sheng Bai Jing states that the time pillar should avoid Jia and Bing.

These evils are actually ghosts sitting on the tombhead. Once they are offended by the forbidden characters, traveling will result in broken wheels and broken horse legs; women may suffer from serious illness, while ordinary people may easily fall victim to theft. The "Shen Bai Jing" says: if the birthday is affected by it, one may actually gain benefit; if the time pillar does not offend the forbidden characters, there is likely to be a wealthy and prosperous person born.

Kutou Ghost

The method of pairing for the Kuthou ghost is: those born on Jia or Yi days meet Xinwei, those born on Bing or Ding days meet Renxu, those born on Wu or Ji days meet Jiachen, and those born on Geng or Xin days are not recorded in the original text. Those born on Ren or Gui days meet Wuchen. These are the same as the previous Xuanche slaughter, meaning that scholars encountering them are likely to achieve success in the imperial examinations at an early age, while ordinary people encountering them are likely to excel in skills and abilities beyond the common.

Kutou Cai

The method of matching for "Kutou Cai" is: people born on Jia or Yi days meet Jiwei, those born on Bing or Ding days meet Gengxu, those born on Wu or Ji days meet Renchen, those born on Geng or Xin days meet Yichou, and those born on Ren or Gui days meet Bingchen. Those who are scholars or officials encountering this usually hold positions responsible for managing grain and storage. Ordinary people encountering this will have a prosperous and comfortable household, but it indicates that the Six Relations are lonely. This entry is also from the "Guangxinji."

Luolu Zi says: When the Storage is located among ghosts and evils, it is most dangerous and suspicious. Ying和尚 explains: This refers to the Five Phases' Storage being combined with the ghost that overcomes me. For example, a person with a Jia metal destiny fears the fire of Jichou, a person with a Yi wood destiny worries about the metal of Yiwei, a person with a Ren water destiny fears the earth of Bingchen, a person with a Wu earth destiny is concerned about the wood of Wuchen, and a person with a Ren fire destiny fears the water of Renxu. All such patterns are particularly dangerous and uncertain.

On Wealth

Heavenly Wealth

Wealth is the element that I overcome: those with the heavenly stem Jia or Yi (wood) see Wu or Ji (earth) as wealth; those with the heavenly stem Bing or Ding (fire) see Geng or Xin (metal) as wealth; those with the heavenly stem Wu or Ji (earth) see Ren or Gui (water) as wealth; those with the heavenly stem Geng or Xin (metal) see Jia or Yi (wood) as wealth; and those with the heavenly stem Ren or Gui (water) see Bing or Ding (fire) as wealth. This passage is from "Lin Kai Wu Ming."

Another instance of heavenly wealth

Another type of heavenly wealth is when the heavenly stem corresponding to the nayin sound element of the native's pillar actually meets the true five phases wealth, and they are compatible with each other. For example, a person born in the year of Yihai, if their four pillars' heavenly stems include Geng, this is considered heavenly wealth. The nayin sound element of Yihai belongs to fire, which can overcome Geng, and the compatibility between Yihai and Geng leads to the manifestation of true metal, as if the heavenly stem itself presents wealth. Such people are destined for wealth and comfort, and will not experience shortages or worries throughout their lives.

True Wealth

Most diviners only consider combinations like Jia meeting Wu and Yi meeting Ji as wealth, but they do not truly understand what constitutes real wealth. True wealth is determined by the Five Phases and the transformation of elements. For instance, Jia and Ji form earth, and when this earth is supported by water formed by Bing and Xin, it becomes wealth. Similarly, Bing and Xin form water, which is supported by fire formed by Wu and Gui, and so on. The sequence is: Jia and Ji form earth, supported by water from Bing and Xin; Bing and Xin form water, supported by fire from Wu and Gui; Wu and Gui form fire, supported by metal from Yi and Geng; Yi and Geng form metal, supported by wood from Ding and Ren; Ding and Ren form wood, supported by earth from Jia and Ji. This is true wealth, and it must be in a position that is strong and vigorous. If this element is strong and vigorous, it indicates wealth and prosperity. However, if it falls in a position of decline or absence of vitality, then even though there is wealth, it is as if there is none.

Generate Wealth

The concept of "generated wealth" refers to the harmonious combination of the heavenly stem and earthly branch that naturally forms wealth. For example, people with the heavenly stem of Jia or Yi (wood) take the heavenly stem of Wu or Ji (earth) as their wealth. The branches Shen, Zi, and Chen correspond exactly to the growth, prosperity, and storage of earth; thus, the combinations Wu Shen, Wu Chen, and Wu Zi naturally form a complete set, hence called "generated wealth." Those whose fate enters a noble pattern are not only prominent in status but also certainly wealthy, often holding important positions related to managing finances. If someone does not enter a noble pattern and lacks auspicious deities supporting the generated wealth, they may still be extremely wealthy commoners who can attain official titles by contributing grain. There is also another type of self-generated and self-prosperous wealth. For instance, people with the day stem of Jia or Yi see Wu Wu or Ji Hai as their wealth. The rest can be inferred similarly. This passage is from "Lin Kai Wu Ming."

Generate and harmonise wealth

The wealth star combined with the heavenly stem that harmonises with it is called "generative and harmonious wealth". For a person born on a Jia day, the stems Wu and Gui are harmonious; for a person born on a Yi day, the stems Ji and Jia are harmonious; for a person born on a Bing day, the stems Geng and Yi are harmonious; for a person born on a Ding day, the stems Xin and Bing are harmonious; for a person born on a Wu day, the stems Ren and Ding are harmonious; for a person born on a Ji day, the stems Gui and Wu are harmonious; for a person born on a Geng day, the stems Jia and Ji are harmonious; for a person born on a Xin day, the stems Yi and Geng are harmonious; for a person born on a Ren day, the stems Bing and Xin are harmonious; for a person born on a Gui day, the stems Ding and Ren are harmonious. Those who have these combinations are likely to establish a family, achieve success, and attain wealth and status.

Son and Mother Wealth

For example, a person with a wood destiny who first encounters fire, and fire then generates earth, and earth is the wealth that wood controls, so if the month pillar shows fire and the day or hour pillar shows earth, this is called "mother and child wealth," indicating that the person will encounter many good things in their life.

There is wealth beneath wealth.

For example, a person with a fire destiny who also sees fire in their month pillar, and then sees earth in their day and hour pillars, earth is the wealth that fire controls. Wealth is further supported by wealth, so it is called "wealth below wealth."

Classified as a Wealth Destroying Malevolent Star

The Triple Harmony Formation and the harmonized elements that form wealth along with malevolent influences are called "Classical Wealth and Malevolent Force". For those with the Fire Triple Harmony Formation (Yin-Wu-Xu), seeing the harmonization of Wood and Metal (Yi and Geng) forming Metal signifies this. For those with the Metal Triple Harmony Formation (Si-You-Chou), seeing the harmonization of Fire and Water (Ding and Ren) forming Wood signifies this. For those with the Water Triple Harmony Formation (Shen-Zi-Chen), seeing the harmonization of Earth and Water (Wu and Gui) forming Fire signifies this. For those with the Wood Triple Harmony Formation (Hai-Mao-Wei), seeing the harmonization of Wood and Earth (Jia and Ji) forming Earth signifies this.

Wealth and Finance Killer

When the wealth (财) and its repository (库) or resting place (墓) come together with aInauspicious Sha (malevolent influence), it is called "wealth meets calamity" (财会杀). For those with the fire trinity (寅午戌), encountering Xinchou (Xinchou) is considered; for those with the metal trinity (巳酉丑), encountering Yiwei (Yiwei) is considered; for those with the water trinity (申子辰), encountering Bingxu (Bingxu) is considered; and for those with the wood trinity (亥卯未), encountering Wuchen (Wuchen) is considered. All of these are deities that bring together wealth and spouse, indicating prosperity, the ability to marry a beautiful wife, and frequent unexpected wealth. However, one must be cautious of being poisoned by a woman, which could lead to death. An ancient poem says: "When wealth and calamity meet, merchants rely on their wife's family to become wealthy in the region, yet they must also beware of a single cup of poison, which may cause their life to end like the moon being obscured by clouds." This statement is also found in the "Broad Trust Collection" (广信集).

Reputation, position, and wealth

Among the food god (food spirit) there is also the presence of the storage and burial places, which is called 'fame and status wealth'. For example, a person with the nayin sound element of Wuzi (戊子) belonging to fire, who meets Gengxu (庚戌): Wuzi takes Geng as the food god, and the burial place of fire is on Gengxu. Fire can overcome metal, and metal is considered wealth. Thus, the food god, storage, and wealth all come together. Those who meet this combination will have a steady income throughout their lives. The rest can be inferred in the same way. This pattern is mentioned in the 'Luolu Zi' under the section on the hierarchy of status and wealth.

External Wealth

External wealth is obtained only when the wealth star is in the Longevity Palace. For example, for Jia wood, the wealth is Wu and Ji earth, so seeing Wushen is favorable, because earth is born in Shen. Similarly, for Gui water, the wealth is Bing and Ding fire, so seeing Bingyin is favorable, because fire is born in Yin. People of this type often gain unexpected wealth. This passage is from the "Book of Li Xuzhong."

Ghost Wealth

The heavenly stem shows a ghost that overcomes me, but the nayin sound element of the native's pillar can overcome this ghost, which is called "ghost wealth." For example, the nayin of Dingmao belongs to fire, while Ding itself belongs to wood in the true five phases. If the heavenly stems in the four pillars contain Yi and Geng that combine to form metal, then the metal ghost in the heavenly stems will overcome wood. However, the nayin of Dingmao is fire, which can melt the Yi-Geng metal, turning the ghost into wealth. Therefore, it is called "ghost wealth." People with this pattern often earn wealth in their lifetime, or become rich by being cunning officials. For instance, Dingmao and Dingyou with Yi and Geng, Wuyin and Wushen with Bing and Xin, Yiyou and Yimao with Wu and Gui, all follow this pattern.

If one also carries the four earthly branches of Chen, Xu, Chou, and Wei, the person will become a skilled artisan and gain substantial wealth from the world. In general, those with the ghost wealth pattern do not rely on property left by their ancestors, but mostly earn their fortune through their own independent efforts. If they suffer from injuries caused by criminal stars and are accompanied byInauspicious Sha (malevolent stars), even if they reside in a place of great fortune, they are likely to become thieves. If they encounter bad luck, they often lose their lives due to unjust gains. However, if they are helped by auspicious deities and are in the position of Zi, they will have sudden wealth, though it comes and goes quickly. This passage is from the "Yuzhao Baodian."

The Wealth Repository Producing Metal Pattern

For example, the earth of Wu and Ji can overcome water to represent wealth, and this wealth falls exactly on the burial ground of water, which is this pattern. The rhyme says: the heavenly stem of the year column overcomes the stems of the following columns, which is called heavenly wealth; if the place being overcome is exactly the burial ground, it is just right to open the wealth storage; once the wealth is stored, there will be plenty of grain, cloth and silk in the family, and the wealthy families will have mountains of grain. For example, Bi surname状元 (top scholar), born in the year of Jihai, month of Guiyou, day of Gengchen, and hour of Jiashen, exactly fits this pattern. This comes from the "Purple Virtual Bureau."

The three types of wealth repositories, namely禄, 命, and 身, are all derived from the element that I overcome. Taking the example of the Jiazi pillar: Jia is the禄, belonging to wood, and wood overcomes earth, so earth is the禄 wealth; theStorage of earth is in Chen, so Chen is the禄 wealth repository; Zi is the命, belonging to water, and water overcomes fire, so fire is the命 wealth; theStorage of fire is in Xu, so Xu is the命 wealth repository; this pillar'sNayin sound element belongs to metal, and metal is the身, which overcomes wood, so wood is the身 wealth; theStorage of wood is in Wei, so Wei is the身 wealth repository. The same method applies to other pillars. Those who possess these three types of wealth repositories are likely to have abundant wealth and can rely on their own diligence to achieve success; they often face hardship in their youth but gradually achieve their desires.

The concept of "wealth and honor" (财绶) refers to using the heavenly stem of the birth year to control the month builder (月建). For example, if someone is born in a year with the heavenly stem Jia or Yi, and the month builder is in the Earthly Branches Chen, Xu, Chou, or Wei, or if someone is born in a year with the heavenly stem Bing or Ding and the month builder is in Shen or You, then this condition is met. When this occurs, it indicates a high official position and a particularly prominent seal or emblem. This statement is from the text San Ming Qian (三命钤).

Luolu Zi says: If both wealth and destiny have vitality, then even if they are away from the禄 position, one will not be poor; conversely, if wealth has already declined and destiny is weak, even if one sits on the建禄, one will not be rich. Wang's commentary explains: A person's life is mainly determined by wealth and destiny. In the Five Phases, what is overcome by me is called wealth. If both wealth and destiny are in the flourishing places of the Five Phases, even if the four pillars are away from the禄, one will not be poor or lowly. But if both destiny and wealth lack vitality, even if one has the建禄, one will still not achieve wealth and honor.

Ying和尚 explains that both wealth and destiny should be in a strong position. For example, if the Gengyin nayin belongs to wood, the Geng's strength is in Shen. Now if Dinghai nayin belongs to earth, the wood can grow and the earth becomes strong, even though it is away from the Geng's strength in Shen, it does not result in poverty. Another example is when fire is in Si and meets metal and earth, or when it faces Shen and meets water, these can be called wealth and destiny with vitality. As for cases where wealth is exhausted and destiny is weak, such as a person with Wuxu nayin belonging to wood born in the month of Dingsi, although he is in the land of his strength and wealth, his destiny is weak and wealth is exhausted, so even with a strong position, he cannot become rich. This principle applies not only to the month pillar but also to the day and hour pillars. This passage is from Luolu Zi.

Anyone whose nayin sound element indicates abundant and strong wealth in their destiny may have money, but it comes in a murky and unclear way. If wealth is located in the dead, extinct, storage, or repository positions, although it may indicate wealth, the person tends to be stingy, greedy, and untrustworthy. Moreover, such wealth is often obtained through the death of others. This passage is from the "Broad Trust Collection."

The body is weak and unable to overcome wealth.

For example, if metal overcomes wood and wood is considered wealth, but the gold of the Renyin nayin meets the wood of the Wuchen nayin, both being weak, the gold cannot overcome the wood, instead it merely wastes its own strength. Similarly, the fire of the Dingmao nayin is in a position of self-destruction and is insufficient to overcome the strong metal of the Guiyou nayin. This is the principle of the Five Phases. This passage is from the "Guangxin Ji."

Small surplus leads to great loss, perhaps indicating a place where wealth is seized.

Ying和尚 explains: For example, a person with the nayin sound element of Bingchen belonging to earth, when encountering Guisi, Bing's luck is originally in Si. Earth also takes water as wealth. However, the 'jiesha' is also seated in Si, so the wealth reaches here and is cut off, and the destiny reaches here and declines. This is called 'a little surplus but a great loss of the original capital', which may just be the place where wealth is seized. This passage is from Luolu Zi.

Volume Twenty · Discussion on Huagai

Huagai position

The Huagai is determined by the triple harmony formation of the year branch. Those born in the Yin-Wu-Xu years have Huagai in Xu, those born in the Si-You-Chou years have it in Chou, those born in the Shen-Zi-Chen years have it in Chen, and those born in the Hai-Mao-Wei years have it in Wei. If someone's chart contains one Huagai, they are likely to be close to noblemen and often tend to become monks, Taoists, or mystics. If Huagai is in the same palace as the seal or the official position, or if Huagai appears in three of the year, month, day, or hour pillars with stable positions, then the person is likely to have a prosperous income and strong foundation. Only when these three conditions are met in the year, month, day, and hour pillars is it considered the best. The Lin Kai Wu Ming says this.

The Huagai is when the Triple Harmony is placed in the Storage position. For example, the combination of Yin, Wu, and Xu forms the Fire Triple Harmony, and Xu is the Storage for Fire. People with Huagai in their destiny are usually learned and talented, with a naturally intelligent disposition. Another explanation is that Huagai is actually the Storage Killer. The difference in its auspicious and inauspicious effects is determined by examining the prosperity and strength, or weakness and confinement, of the heavenly stems in the year, month, and day, as well as the number of auspicious and inauspicious deities. It is also necessary to distinguish whether the person can control the killer deity or whether the killer deity controls the person. Based on these factors, one should make a careful judgment. The Three Destiny Theory states this.

Huagai is a celestial star that can shelter and protect people, representing a noble and refined deity. It signifies a person with a broad-minded nature, a clear and bright spirit, a tranquil disposition, and a tendency not to quarrel over right and wrong. Such a person enjoys pursuits related to immortality, alchemy, and skillful arts, but tends to lack prosperity in wealth. Only when Huagai appears together with 'JiaGui' and 'ZhengYin' does it bring about the blessings of nobility and refinement, enabling official success. However, even in such cases, it is still not advisable to hold actual power. When Huagai appears in the day pillar, it tends to harm the spouse; when it appears in the hour pillar, it tends to harm the children. In essence, it is a star symbolizing solitary dignity and integrity. The "Zhu Jing Jing" states this.

The Huagai generally indicates good fortune. If it is in the same branch as the year's heavenly stem's repository, it becomes double good fortune, indicating great wealth and status. The "Three Essentials of Destiny" states that Huagai should be in the repository, tomb, or capping position for the best result. For example, someone born in the year Guimao with a nayin element of metal, if Huagai is in Wei, and encounters Dingwei, then Wei is the capping position of metal; if someone is born in the year Xinmao with a nayin element of wood and encounters Wei, then Wei is the repository of wood, and encountering Guiwei, Gui water nourishes wood, which is the proper nourishing element for a wood destiny, forming the most valuable pattern. Other cases follow the same principle. This is from the "Luolu Precious and Common Patterns."

The term "heavy gold and heavy cover" refers to a situation where Gengchen appears again with Gengchen, resulting in two layers of metal overlapping on the Huagai position. When two identical heavenly stems are aligned, it is called "heavy gold," such as Xinchou appearing again with Xinchou. As long as two layers of metal overlap on the Huagai, it counts. If there are also "Lu Ma" and other refined spirits supporting this, such a person is destined to receive a noble title. The "Chen Zhi Yuan Sui" states this.

Huagai is known as the Star of Art, and Wang Shui is the Tai Pu.

Huagai is originally a star associated with purity and proximity to nobility. Those who possess it are inclined towards esoteric studies, such as Buddhism, Taoism, and divination. This is mentioned in the "Hu Zhong Zi." The rhyme from "Lin Kai Wu Ming" states: if the seal star and the storage are both located on Huagai, a person's character becomes refined; if the seal star is heavily overlaid, one may attain a high official position; but if the position of Huagai is occupied by "kongwang" or is broken by a clash, then one is merely a reclusive and idle practitioner of divination.

The rhyme says: The presence of Huagai repeatedly is generally a good omen, but one must beware of the conflict and destruction; if Huagai appears again in a prosperous and strong position, the person will certainly attain high official rank. Conversely, if Huagai is repeated but accompanied by conflict and destruction, although the person may be intelligent, he will only be a wandering fortune teller. This is mentioned in "Cun Zhu Chi Bi." The "Ba Zi Jin Shu" says: A virtuous person with Huagai will gain blessings, but an ordinary person born under Huagai is not advisable; it also says that a gentleman with Huagai is intelligent and fond of women, while a petty person with Huagai and the "xuanzhen"Inauspicious Sha will be exiled and relocated.

Anyone with the Huagai star in their time pillar tends to have their career interrupted or abandoned midway. Those born on壬 or癸 days are especially affected, often losing their children in old age. For women, having Huagai in the time pillar indicates difficulty in bearing children. An old poem says: The Huagai star indicates few siblings, as it is a solitary star in the heavens; if it falls in the time pillar or the胎元, it often indicates being adopted or being a庶出 child. The above is also mentioned in the "Broad Trust Collection."

Volume Twenty · Discussion on Jinyu

"Jinyu" is a beneficial deity among the Five Phases, usually located two positions before "Lu", two positions before the person's birth stem, and two positions before "Yimash" according to the theory in "Lin Kai Wu Ming". The concept of "Jin Yu" and "Lu" refers to the case of someone born in the Jiazi year, whose "Lu" is in寅. The position two before寅, which is辰, is called "Jin Yu". This indicates that such a person is likely to gain unexpected wealth, and if they enter officialdom, they will have a good reputation. Ordinary people encountering this also indicate that they will marry a wife who brings dowry. If they become a monk or a Taoist, they will certainly have a particular skill.

The "Purple Void Bureau" says: The two positions before the official position of fortune (Lü) are called Jinyu. Those who encounter Jinyu have particularly thick blessings, are mostly intelligent and wealthy, and live a stable and peaceful life with little to worry about.the so-called "fate meeting Jinyu" means that, for example, a person born in the Year of the Rat (Zi) has Jinyu in the Year of the Tiger (Yin). If a person encounters Jinyu, there will be many carriages and horses at their door, and their relatives by marriage will connect with noble and aristocratic families. However, they should be cautious of women secretly attacking them. The above is also mentioned in "Three Fate Discussions." The "Eight Characters Gold Book" also says: The second position before the post-horse (Yi Ma) is where Jinyu is located. If one is born in this position, and later in life their fortune reaches here again, they will become increasingly successful in officialdom as they grow older.

Jinyu is like the banner in one's destiny and the ceremonial standards of the three realms of heaven, earth, and humanity. The person with Jinyu has a gentle nature, a dignified appearance, and a temperate and restrained manner. For women, encountering Jinyu does not necessarily mean wealth but signifies honor; for men, it often brings multiple wives and concubines, along with the blessings of Yin Virtue supporting them secretly. Those who meet Jinyu in their day pillar or hour pillar often receive assistance from virtuous and prominent individuals, enjoy peace and security among their family members, marry wise and virtuous spouses, and have numerous descendants. Members of royal families usually have this star. If ordinary people with such a configuration are in a place where their energy is weak, they may only end up marrying into another family. The Zhujing Jing says this.
