Charting guides: Chinese Almanac, Chinese Perpetual Calendar

All those born in the Jiazi, Renzi, and Wuzi decades start counting from the Shen position. Those born in the Gengzi and Bingzi decades start counting from the Yin position. For example, if someone was born in the Xinwei year and belongs to the Jiazi decade, place Jiazi on the Shen position and count forward one position for each of the twelve earthly branches. When you reach the Mao position, you will find the year Xinwei, which is the position of the calamity. The same method applies to others. Then check where the命宫 (destiny palace) falls. If it falls in the brothers, servants, migration, or appearance sectors, it is considered a true calamity. If it falls in any other sector, it is not considered a calamity. If it falls in the third sector, the person will not live past three years. The sixth and twelfth sectors are similarly judged, while the ninth sector means death before thirty. If the current year's heavenly stem, along with the big and small years, also conflict with this position, it is unavoidable. The rhyme says: those born in the Jiazi, Renzi, and Wuzi decades start counting from Shen, while those born in the Gengzi and Bingzi decades start counting from Yin. Count until you reach the year of birth, which is the position of the calamity. If it falls in the third, ninth, sixth, or twelfth sectors, it is considered a true calamity.

The small pass is about dangers within a thousand days or a full year, and no child can escape it by the age of three or five at the latest. Those born in the Year of the Dragon or the Year of the Dog have their pass in the years of the Dragon and the Rat. Those born in the Year of the Pig or the Year of the Rooster have their pass in the years of the Pig and the Horse. Those born in the Year of the Monkey have their pass in the years of the Horse and the Ox. Those born in the Year of the Goat have their pass in the year of the Rabbit. Those born in the Year of the Tiger have their pass in the year of the Snake. Those born in the Year of the Snake have their pass in the year of the Sheep. Those born in the Year of the Rabbit have their pass in the year of the Rat. Then look at where the命宫 (destiny palace) falls. If this killer star falls in the third, sixth, ninth, or twelfth palace, it means the child has encountered the pass. An old poem says: if it falls in the sixth or ninth palace, the child will not live beyond three hundred days; if it falls in the twelfth or third palace, the child will surely die by the age of five. If there is also a bad star involved, how can the parents not worry?

Another song says: Those born in the Year of the Rat, Pig, or Rooster are afflicted by the亥 (pig)煞; those born in the Year of the Tiger are afflicted by the巳 (snake), and those born in the Year of the Rabbit or Dragon are afflicted by the子 (rat); those born in the Year of the Snake are afflicted by the未 (sheep), and those born in the Year of the Horse or Monkey are afflicted by the午 (horse); those born in the Year of the Ox or Sheep are afflicted by the卯 (rabbit). To know the severity of this affliction, one should look at the third, sixth, ninth, and twelfth houses. There is another method of calculation, which assigns the earthly branches to the twelve houses and determines the affliction based on the constellations: the Year of the Rat belongs to Scorpio, the Years of the Ox and Sheep belong to Taurus and Capricorn, the Year of the Tiger belongs to Virgo; the Years of the Rabbit and Dragon are listed together (the original text is missing a character here, making it hard to determine exactly), the Years of the Snake and Monkey can be inferred from this; the Year of the Horse belongs to Taurus, the Years of the Sheep and Ox belong to Sagittarius; the Year of the Rooster belongs to Aquarius, the Year of the Dog belongs to Gemini, and the Year of the Pig belongs to Pisces. This passage is already incomplete. For example, those born in the Year of the Rat start the affliction from the卯 (rabbit) house. If this affliction falls in the third, sixth, ninth, or twelfth house, it indicates a short life, which cannot be avoided. All of this is taken from the "Broad Trust Collection."

Various Killers in the Gates

The following are the rhymes explaining various karmic obstacles. The first one says: children born in spring's third month who are born at the hours of Hai and Zi will not pass the gate, those born in summer will be unfortunate at the hours of Mao and Wei, those born in autumn should avoid the hours of Yin and Xu, and those born in winter will face death if born at the hours of Chou and Chen. (The "Hua Cheng Book" says autumn should avoid Chen and Xu, and winter should avoid Chou and Yin.) The second one says: the gates in spring are at Chou and Si, in summer at Chen and Shen, in autumn at Wei and Hai (those of the double fish sign), and in winter at Xu and Yin; if the birth hour falls into these gates, one must survive the hurdles at three and nine years of age to preserve life. (This is actually Guchen and Guasu, as mentioned in "San Ming Zuan Ju.") The third one says: in January and July, remember Si and Hai; in February and August, avoid Chen and Xu; in March and September, remember Mao and You; in April and October, encountering Yin and Shen will bring crying and sorrow; in May and November, encountering Chou and Wei is bad; in June and December, encountering Zi and Wu is dangerous. (The Si in January and Hai in July are the gates, which are actually the six harmful combinations.) The last one says: metal turns into iron when it reaches Xu, fire dies out at Wei and Shen, wood withers at Chen, and water and earth vanish at Chou and Yin. All of these are from "Guang Lu."

The "Golden Lock" in the book of destiny refers to the phrase "metal transforms into iron at戌". The "Little Child Golden Lock" calculation in the "Purple Micro Taiyi Bureau" is different. It says: starting from the戌 position, count backwards through the months, counting to the month of birth. Then from that position, count forward through the hours, starting from子. If the hour falls on辰,戌, 丑, or 未, it is considered a "kill star" or "obstruction". If someone is born in the months of寅,申, 巳, or 亥 and sees the hours of子, 午, 卯, or 酉, it is considered a "kill". If someone is born in the months of子, 午, 卯, or 酉 and sees the hours of辰, 戌, 丑, or 未, it is considered a "kill". Similarly, if someone is born in the months of辰, 戌, 丑, or 未 and sees the hours of寅, 申, 巳, or 亥, it is also considered a "kill".

There is also a concept called 「Adult Death」: if the heavenly stem of the day pillar or the hour pillar in a person's birth chart is capable of overcoming the命宫, then the person will die in that year. Further, if that month also overcomes the命宫, then the person will certainly die within that year and month. Another concept is called 「Three Killers」: those born with a water or earth destiny should avoid the years of寅, 卯, and 巳; those with a wood destiny should avoid巳, 午, and 申; those with a fire destiny should avoid申, 酉, and 亥; and those with a metal destiny should avoid戌, 子, and 寅. If a person's birth chart includes two or three of these, they will certainly suffer from mental dullness, lack of energy, and a short lifespan.

Child's Destiny Examples

The method of calculating a child's destiny is as follows: for a boy born in a yang year or a girl born in a yin year, count forward from寅 to卯, starting with one year on寅, two years on卯, and three years on辰; for a boy born in a yin year or a girl born in a yang year, count backward from申 to未, starting with one year on申, two years on未, and three years on午. In each case, the child moves through one year per position. Whenever the years 辰, 巳, 戌, or 亥 are encountered, there will be calamity. This method is called "Child's Destiny." This passage is from "Five Phases Quick Discussion."

Interpreting Male Fate Examples

When calculating a man's destiny, each pillar in the four pillars system has its own significance: the year pillar represents the father, the fetal pillar represents the mother, and the month pillar represents brothers; if the person is an official, the month pillar also indicates colleagues and friends. The day pillar represents oneself and one's wife or concubine, while the hour pillar represents children; for officials, the hour pillar is also called "Imperial Seat," from which one's fortune and misfortune throughout life are judged. Any man born on a day of Taohua (Flowers), namely Zi, Wu, Mao, or You, is expected to marry a wife whose year pillar belongs to Zi, Wu, Mao, or You. If the day branches of the husband and wife form a Triple Harmony, Liu He (Six Harmonies), or if their heavenly stems are compatible, it indicates that the marriage is unlikely to last until old age. For example, a person born on Jiazi day is supposed to marry a woman whose year pillar is Zi, Wu, Mao, or You. If he marries a woman from the years Shen-Zi-Chen, Chou, or if her heavenly stem is Jia or Ji, the marriage is likely to be short-lived. If the force that harms the wife has already manifested in his fate, and the wife remarries, then this rule does not apply. Some people may repeatedly harm their wives, marrying women whose day stem and branch are completely different from their own, only then will they no longer be affected. The same principle applies to those born on days of Yin, Shen, Si, Hai, Chen, Xu, Chou, or Wei.

When assessing a person's destiny, the wife is determined by the day of birth. One must find in the four pillars the element that is overcome by the day stem. This is called the wife star. If there is no such element in the four pillars, it is called "no wife in the chart." In such a case, one should look at the position of the day stem. If it is in a place where the wealth element is strong, there will be a capable and helpful wife or a beautiful concubine. If the day stem also carries "nobleman," "lucky horse," and other auspicious deities and is located in the year pillar, it indicates that the wife comes from an official family and marries the husband with a royal title. Conversely, if the day stem is in the dead, tomb, critical, or ruined place of the native's wealth element, it will harm the wife, and some people may remain unmarried all their lives. For example, a man named Jiang, a judge, has the year pillar Gui Hai with the nayin element of water, the month pillar Xin You with the nayin element of wood, the day pillar Ding Chou with the nayin element of water, and the hour pillar Ren Yin with the nayin element of metal. There is no fire at all in the four pillars, and the day stem is in a place with no life qi. Therefore, although he held an official position all his life, he could only be accompanied by incompetent people.

The *Yu Men Guan Ji* says: If earth is considered the wife star, and earth is seated in the position of wood, such as寅 or卯, or in the stems 甲 or乙, then the wife star is seated in a position that restrains itself. The other five elements are to be judged in the same way. If the "Liu" (favorable position) of the day stem appears in the hour column, and the hidden stem method encounters "reputation killer," then it indicates wealth and also that one will attain official position through the wife. For example, a person born on a丙 day encountering aGuisi hour, or a person born on a壬 day encountering aXinhai hour, falls into this category. If the day column carries the official star or the seal star of the year column, it indicates that the wife will take away the husband's authority, or that the husband's salary comes from the wife's family's influence, or that the wife comes from a noble family, such as a驸马 or郡马. If the day column is seated on the husband's own wealth star, and the hour column is in a flourishing position, then one will gain property from the wife, and the wife will be wise and capable. If the wealth star is in a dead, buried, or exhausted position, then the property obtained is from the wife's deceased relatives. If the day column is seated on "nobleman," it indicates that the wife comes from a prominent family. Otherwise, the wife is certainly virtuous and beautiful, and there will be beautiful concubines and young servants around her.

The following are combinations that are considered harmful to the wife: if the day pillar has inherent punishment, it indicates harm to the wife; if the day pillar conflicts or is broken with the year pillar, it indicates harm to the wife; if the day pillar carries the year pillar's "Yangren," it indicates harm to the wife; if the day pillar carries the year pillar's "Jiesha," it indicates harm to the wife; if the day pillar carries the year pillar's "Liu'e," it indicates harm to the wife; if the day pillar carries the year pillar's "Yuanchen," it indicates harm to the wife; if the day pillar carries the year pillar's "Kongwang," it indicates harm to the wife, and may result in marrying three or four times or remaining unmarried for life; if the day pillar carries the year pillar's "Mukù," it indicates harm to the wife, or repeated harm to the wife, or marrying only a prostitute. If the day pillar carries the official seal, it often results in marrying a prostitute or concubine as the official wife, and the official wife is often harmed, but if the Five Phases flow smoothly, it can turn into good fortune. If the day pillar has punishment, harm, conflict, or destruction, and is combined with evil killing spirits, it often leads to separation from the wife. If the day pillar is occupied by "Chenfu Sha," it indicates the wife may be separated or die an untimely death. If the day pillar has its own "Yangren," it is called "Ri Sha," or if the "Yangren" of the hour pillar returns to the day pillar, it indicates harm to the wife. If the "Yangren" of the day pillar returns to the year pillar, it is called "Chao Yuan Yangren," and it also indicates harm to the wife.

If the day pillar falls in the dead, tomb, or绝 (cut-off) position of the native's destiny wealth star, it indicates a tendency to harm the wife. For example, if someone's nayin sound element belongs to metal, then wood is considered the wife's element. Wood is in the dead and cut-off positions at the hours of Wu, Wei, and Shen. If the day of birth falls on these hours, the prediction comes true. When making the judgment, it is still based on the nayin sound element's five phases. An ancient poem says: For those whose nayin sound element is metal, wood is considered the wife's element. When they reach the hours of Wu and Wei, it is the death and burial period of the wife's star, and the next hour is the cut-off position. Although it may not lead to the destruction of the family, the wife will certainly suffer first. If the day pillar is occupied by Huagai, it indicates repeated harm to the wife, often resulting in marriage to a prostitute, nun, or concubine. People born on the days of Chen, Xu, Chou, or Wei are more likely to have this pattern. An ancient poem says: If one is born with Huagai, it indicates a life of loneliness. Even if they have sons, they will die before their time. If both the day pillar and the hour pillar meet Huagai, the wife will suffer repeated harm, and the spouse will be either a prostitute, nun, or servant.

The book "Cun Zhu Chi Bi" says: If the day pillar is occupied by "Huagai," it indicates the wife is not chaste or filial. If the day pillar is occupied by "Yimai," it suggests the wife is often sick, lazy, or lonely; if there is also a conflict among the Five Phases, it also leads to loss. Those born on Xinyou day are said to harm their wives, while those born on Guisi day are likely to have spouses with illness or indulge in wine and debauchery. If the year pillar and day pillar have the same heavenly stem and earthly branch, it is called "Zhu Ben Tong Gong," which indicates harm to the wife; only marrying someone born in the same year can avoid this, commonly known as "Fenghuang Chi." Chen Zhi said: The "Fenghuang Chi" formed by brothers in the same palace only causes inner discomfort. If the day pillar conflicts, breaks, or is in a criminal relationship with the hour pillar, or forms the six harms, it indicates difficulty in marriage and difficulty in having children, applicable to both male and female fate. When the day pillar and hour pillar form combinations such as Shen day and Hai hour, Wei day and Si hour, Yin day and Xu hour, Chou day and Si hour, or their mutual exchanges, it is called "Jing Lan Xie Chong," indicating difficulty in finding a spouse. If this is combined with the food god, it is called "Jue Fang Sha," indicating more daughters than sons. Cases like Jiachen and Renshen, which also carry "Dao Shi," are particularly accurate. The ancient text referring to "Jing Lan Dui Di" and "Zhuangzi Gu Peng" refers exactly to this situation. If the day pillar is self-punishing, it indicates the wife is often sick. If the day pillar is occupied by "Muyu Sha," it indicates marrying a beautiful but unchaste wife.

When calculating a person's destiny, the "Nayin sound element" of the day pillar is used to determine the number of spouses. Those with the sound element of water have one spouse, those with fire have two, those with wood have three, those with metal have four, and those with earth have five. In severe cases, the number is doubled, according to the "Broad Trust Collection." When the spouse star position of a person is in conflict with another position, that year is considered the year of marriage. Few people marry in years that form a Triple Harmony or Liu He with the day pillar. Additionally, one must consider whether the destiny pattern is harmonious or not, according to the "Inch Jewel and Square Treasure." The saying "the sun shines on the close relative, the old wife shows no respect" means that the day pillar represents the wife or concubine. For example, a person born in the Yichou year who encounters a Xin day, the Xin metal harms the year's dry branch, which is the Yi wood. If they encounter a Gui day, the Gui water drains the Yi wood. If they encounter a Jia day, Jia is the elder brother of Yi, and the wife is likely to be disobedient. Since the year pillar represents parents, if the earth branch also has conflict and is accompanied by harmful stars, the wife will show no respect to elders. However, if there is another heavenly stem that supports, the situation changes. For example, when Yi wood meets Xin metal, if the destiny has a Ren character, the Xin metal generates Ren water, which in turn generates Yi wood, resulting in a smooth and harmless situation.

"The day branch suddenly comes before the year branch, causing laughter and fear of a wife's ugly reputation" refers to the day pillar, which is responsible for the wife, if its earthly branch comes before the earthly branch of the heavenly stem, indicating the husband fears his wife or the wife has a strong temper, leading to being laughed at by others and gaining a bad reputation of being a wife who dominates her husband. This is the view from the "Chen Zhi Yuan Mei." The "Zi Xu Ju" states that whenever a凶杀 (kill) star falls on the wife's position, although the couple may be harmonious, they are inevitably harmful to the wife's family; once the wife's family declines and disperses, the wife herself may live a long life. The phrase "gǔ pén gē chù shì guān fū" refers to "gǔ pén shā" (funeral drum killer), also known as "wàng mén guǎ" (widow at the gate). The mnemonic says: those with nayin sound element of water encountering the亥 (Hai) branch will have the fate of being a widow at the gate; those with fire encountering the寅 (Yin) branch will have distant marital affection; those with earth or wood encountering the巳 (Si) snake will surely lose their wife; those with metal encountering the申 (Shen) monkey will be long-term complaining of being a widower. This is the view from the "Li Yu Ge."

Interpreting Female Fate Examples

When analyzing a woman's destiny, the year pillar represents her father-in-law, the胎元 represents her mother-in-law, the month pillar represents her sisters-in-law, the day pillar represents both her husband and herself, and the hour pillar represents her children. If a woman is born on a day of 子, 午, 卯, or 酉, she is traditionally expected to marry a husband whose heavenly stem belongs to 子, 午, 卯, or 酉. Similarly, if she is born on a day of 辰, 戌, 丑, or 未, the same principle applies. If the husband's day stem harmonizes with her own, or if their earthly branches form a triple harmony or aLiu He, it indicates that the couple will not live together until old age. If a woman's fortune falls on her胎元 and year pillar, it signifies she was born into a wealthy family with prominent parents. If it falls on the month pillar, it indicates her brothers will be prominent. If it falls on the day pillar, it indicates her husband will be prominent. If it falls on the hour pillar, it indicates her children will be prominent. If both the day and hour pillars are favorable, she will be supported throughout her life by both her husband and sons.

For a woman's fortune, the "Nayin" elements in the four pillars are most favorable when they are generated from the upper to the lower, indicating a particularly deep store of blessings. It is most unfavorable when the lower element overcomes the upper one, suggesting a person who is deceitful and oversteps their proper place. If the "Nayin" of the year pillar overcomes the "Nayin" of the hour pillar, it is unfavorable for children. There is another saying: if the "Nayin" of the year pillar and the hour pillar overcome or clash with each other, or if they use刑 (punishment) or破 (destruction) to harm the "Nayin" of the hour pillar, it indicates more daughters than sons. A woman's fortune is good if she can contain vitality in a place of decline, hide death qi in a place of strength, carry damage within emptiness, and have the Five Phases not entangled with each other. Conversely, if vital qi hides within a place of decline, death qi suddenly turns strong, and there is alsoInauspicious Sha (fate of death), then she is considered a woman of low destiny.

For a woman's destiny, if her day pillar is seated upon the Lu Spirit and the Glory Spirit of the year pillar, she may receive titles such as Lady of a County or Lady of a State. The Glory Spirit refers to those born in spring seeing Jia or Yi, those born in summer seeing Bing or Ding, those born in autumn seeing Geng or Xin, and those born in winter seeing Ren or Gui. For a woman's destiny, having punishments and clashes but without emotional connections is considered the best, followed by having no emotional connections but also no punishments or clashes, then having the husband's Lu Spirit on the day pillar and a full store of resources in the destiny, these are all patterns of women who can receive titles. If a woman's destiny has the Nobleman, along with the Star of Virtue and Resolution and the Star of Virtue and Charity, and also has an official star on the day pillar, she is considered a virtuous and capable wife.

For a woman's destiny, the official star (印绶) should be empty rather than solid, while the repository (库藏) should be full. The Five Phases should be calm and unexcited, with no mutual interference, each enjoying its own fortune. This is the superior pattern of purity and integrity. Another view states that for a woman's destiny, the repository should be empty and the noble influence (贵气) should be solid. The term 'solid noble influence' refers to the Nobleman (贵人) not falling into the position of emptiness (空亡). For those with a low destiny, it is the opposite: the noble influence is empty while the repository is full. If they also commit the 'Guchen', 'Guasu', and 'Yuanchen' stars, they are considered to have bad character.

For a woman's destiny, if the印绶 (representing husband or support) is strong, it will take away the husband's authority. If the库藏 (treasure house) is strong, it can help accumulate wealth for the husband. If the four pillars do not fight against each other and do not involve complicated relationships, the person will not be jealous. If the slave宫 (slave or servant position) is occupied by「浮沉杀」 (floating and sinking killer), it indicates that the person will beat the slaves to death. In female destiny, the five elements that overcome me represent the husband. If the four pillars do not contain the five elements that overcome me, it is called「局中无夫」 (no husband in the destiny). If the day pillar also falls intoKongwang (void), and carries strong energy along with harmful influences, it indicates a destiny that is harmful to the husband and extremely lowly.

The book "Cun Zhu Chi Bi" says: A woman's destiny with a nayin sound element belonging to metal is said to have a husband of the fire element. If such a woman has repeatedly encountered both Guasu and Guchen, and the fire element reaches the Xu and Hai branches, which are the burial and dead places for fire, then even if she marries, it will be in vain. A woman whose birth year and day stem are the same is said to be harmful to her husband. Only by marrying someone with the same nayin sound element and the same age can this be somewhat resolved. A woman should not have the "Liu Ri Zao" (six early days), which refers to six days of Jia. If she has this, it is called "Dai Jia Fu" (carrying the Jia husband), and if both the month pillar and day pillar have this, it also indicates harm to the husband and eventual widowhood. For example, a woman born in the year Jiawu has nine out of ten cases of harming her husband. A woman born on the day Jiawu is even more so, which is called "Jin Shen Dai Jia" (metal god carrying Jia), and the effect is especially severe.

For a woman's daily pillar, it is not advisable to have strong vitality. Those with strong vitality are called "receiving the prosperity of the husband," and such people, if not of low status, are likely to harm their husbands. If they also possess sufficient fortune and virtue, they become the favored concubine in the palace; if they have about five or six parts, they are the wives of high-ranking officials; if they have three or five parts, they are close to the powerful; and those with less are high-class courtesans. Lower still are nuns or secondary wives, and in severe cases, they may harm their husbands and be immoral. These days refer to Bingzi, Gengzi, Wuwu, Guiyou, and Xinmao. Among them, Wuwu day is most favorable, Guiyou and Xinmao are next, while Bingzi and Gengzi are considered lowly. Another view states that Wuwu, Guiyou, and Xinmao days are generally good but have some flaws. Another view says that for a woman's birth day, it is most undesirable if her vitality is strong but her fortune is weak, as the daily pillar represents herself. It is also most undesirable if her birth day falls in the positions of Capping, Officialdom, or Prosperity, which indicate immorality, evil, or multiple marriages. If a man's birth day falls in such positions, it indicates that his wife is beautiful but unfaithful.

For a woman's birth date if it falls in the dead, tomb, or end positions of the official ghost star, it indicates a husband who is oppressive. If the official ghost star falls into kongwang, or if the day pillar falls into kongwang, and the birth date has no life qi, then it indicates no husband at all. Even if there is a husband nominally, it is as if there is none. An old poem says: If the position representing husband in the five phases falls into kongwang, and the self is lowly, where can a good husband come from? Such a woman is either fallen into the streets or becomes a servant or concubine. Even if she marries a lowly husband, she herself remains a prostitute.

If a woman's day pillar or hour pillar is directly afflicted by Huagai, it indicates she will have no husband or children; even if she does, by old age they will be completely harmed. If a woman's day pillar or hour pillar is afflicted by criminal damage, harm, kongwang, conflict, feiren, yangren, jie sha, wangshen, shan piao, or da bai, it indicates harm to husband and children. The severity of these afflictions should be considered separately, and the number of husband and children should still be determined by the nayin sound element of the day pillar and hour pillar.

If a woman's destiny involves the Six at the Top, Yuanchen, Xianchi, Huagai, and Pan'an in her month pillar, day pillar, or hour pillar, she is considered an evil woman, likely to harm her husband, have few children, and suffer from frequent illness and jealousy. If her day pillar or hour pillar carries the six self-inflicting patterns, she will have neither a husband nor children, indicating a completely evil fate, which will surely bring about harmful consequences.

If a woman's destiny is located on Yangren, it often indicates difficulties during childbirth and excessive menstrual flow, and she is prone to cold deficiency diseases in middle age. If she is afflicted by卯 or酉, she is likely to suffer from pain in the ribs and sharp pains due to blood and qi disorders. If all four pillars of a woman's destiny are composed of yang stems, she is unlikely to give birth to a son; if all are yin stems, she is unlikely to give birth to a daughter. If the time pillar is a yang stem, the first child is more likely to be a son; if the time pillar is a yin stem, the first child is more likely to be a daughter. If there are many instances of寅, 申, 巳, or 亥 in the four pillars, it often indicates the possibility of twins: multiple instances of亥 suggest twin sons, and multiple instances of巳 suggest twin daughters.

The book "Cun Zhu Chi Bi" states: If all four pillars are yang stems, it indicates no sons; if all are yin stems, it indicates no daughters. If the time branch is in the middle positions such as Zi, Wu, Mao, or You, it indicates the child is the middle child in the family, and the same applies to the positions of the first, third, and fourth months. For women, some give birth every three years, some every two years, and some every year. These are verified by the nayin sound element of the time pillar, using the numbers one for water, two for fire, three for wood, four for metal, and five for earth. If a woman's nayin is earth, but there is excessive fire in her destiny, it indicates difficulties in childbearing throughout her life. Similarly, if there is excessive dryness in the five phases, the situation is the same.

If a woman's day pillar or hour pillar is afflicted by Kongwang, Yangren,劫杀, or Wangshen, some may never have children, others may suffer repeated miscarriages or face difficulties during childbirth. This should be judged according to the strength and balance of the Five Phases. Some may never marry, and even if they have children, they are often discordant and unfilial. If the hour pillar is afflicted by 'Fuyin' or 'Fan Yin', it is unfavorable for children. Even if she gives birth in middle age, she will certainly experience decline in old age. If the day pillar is afflicted by Fuyin, it indicates a harsh relationship with the husband; marrying someone of the same age can avoid this. If the month pillar is afflicted by Fuyin, there will be discord with sisters-in-law and sisters. If the胎元 is afflicted by Fuyin, it is unfavorable for close family members. The interpretation for Fan Yin is similar.

For a female's destiny, if she is born on a壬 or癸 day and encounters丙子 or癸亥, or if she is born in a year of申子辰, and repeatedly sees壬 or癸, it is called "flowing killer." This indicates a low social status and potential for unchastity. If a female's destiny has excessive water without earth to control it, her behavior will be unrestrained. If there is excessive fire without water to restrain it, her nature will be licentious. Generally, if the five elements lack balance and control, it leads to harming the husband and causing problems with children, or otherwise results in poverty, low status, and superficiality. If the day pillar or hour pillar of a female's destiny is afflicted by "eight exclusive," or if the fetal pillar or month pillar is also afflicted, it indicates promiscuity and diseases related to exhaustion. If "nine shame" is heavily present, it also indicates licentiousness, as well as difficulties during childbirth and death by misfortune. The "bathing" and "Xianchi" are divine stars associated with alcohol and lust, also indicating promiscuity. If "ten evil great defeat" is present, it indicates licentiousness and destruction of the family.

If a woman's birth chart has no life qi but sits on 'Guìrén' (Nobleman), and if her four pillars include 'Tiāndé' (Star of Virtue and Resolution) and 'Yuèdé' (Star of Virtue and Charity) or if her time pillar has a禄 (favorable position), she may be born into a humble family but give birth to a noble son. She may serve officials or receive a grant of honor through her son's success. If a woman's chart has too many harmonies, she is likely to be a nun, prostitute, servant, or concubine; the same applies if her triple harmony, Liu He (Six Harmonies), and the combination of heavenly stems and earthly branches are all harmonious. If she also has 'Guìrén', she is mostly a high-ranking courtesan, otherwise someone in the service of the powerful; some may receive honors due to the fortune falling on the day pillar or time pillar.

For a woman's fate if she encounters "Taohua Jie" (Flower劫), it indicates that she may become involved in prostitution at a young age and suffer from poverty and begging in old age. The method to determine this is as follows: those born in the years of Yin, Wu, and Xu, if born during the亥 hour (water hour) in the winter months; those born in the years of Si, You, and Chou, if born during the寅 hour (tiger hour) in the spring months; those born in the years of Shen, Zi, and Chen, if born during the巳 hour (snake hour) in the summer months; and those born in the years of Hai, Mao, and Wei, if born during the申 hour (monkey hour) in the autumn months. An ancient poem says: When Taohua and Jiesha (劫杀) clash, men will either become thieves or commit adultery; if women suddenly encounter this, it means they will enter the brothel at a young age and fall into poverty in old age. This is the view from the "Guangxin Ji" (广信集).

A woman's destiny differs slightly from a man's, and generally one hopes that the Five Phases are not harmed, not excessive, nor deficient, but rather balanced with a subtle presence of nobility. If it also includes "Lù Mǎ" (favorable wealth and power) and "Guì Rén" (noble person), with the self-sitting "Cháng Shēng" (growth) and "Dì Wàng" (prosperity), and also "Liù Hé" (harmony of the six directions), then the nature is clever, virtue is excellent, and appearance is especially beautiful. One must not allow the Five Phases to be overly strong, for excessive strength may lack gentleness; nor should they be harmed by death and decline, for death and decline may lead to licentiousness and a low character. If the Five Phases are balanced, the most important blessings are concentrated in the day pillar and hour pillar, which is best, because the day pillar represents the husband and the hour pillar represents the son. If all blessings are added to the day and hour pillars, then one will certainly achieve honor through the husband and son. A woman's fortune is naturally connected to her husband and son. Such a person should be repeatedly honored with noble titles and marry a virtuous husband early. If the blessings of the day and hour pillars are insufficient, then it is just an ordinary fate. If the blessings are concentrated in the month pillar and the胎元 (fetal origin), then it is only being born into a wealthy family, but ultimately cannot become the husband's fortune.

The most favored aspects for a woman's destiny are "Jinyu" (Golden Chariot), "Liu He" (Six Harmonies), and being seated in a prosperous position. This brings deep blessings and benefits to family members. If the destiny includes the "imperial seal" (印绶) and "ghost of fortune" (禄鬼), or if it contains both water and fire or gold and water elements, her appearance and physique are beautiful. If she is seated in a "growth" (长生) or "prosperity" (帝旺) position and also has "Guanfu" (Official Symbol), or if the five elements and the heavenly stems and earthly branches do not interact with each other, she maintains family purity, can withstand harsh circumstances, and avoids immoral behavior. If the "horse" (禄马) is in a dead or declining position, her life is simple and not extravagant. If the "imperial seal" is accompanied by "kill" (杀), she has authority and can bear great responsibilities. If "Six Harmonies" are in a generating relationship, her family thrives and her social interactions are harmonious and fulfilling. If the time pillar has "Nobleman" (贵人) and "Post-horse" (驿马), she will have many virtuous and filial sons, and there will be no worries during pregnancy and childbirth. If the day pillar has these, she will marry a wise and intelligent husband and live a happy life.

Among women whose fate is of low status, it is especially easy to determine their characteristics: they should most avoid the stars Xianchi, Zibai, Dahuos, Tianzhong, as well as Lingke, Xingchong, Qisan, and Zixing, combined withInauspicious Sha. Such people tend to have coarse and vulgar characters, and indulge in licentious behavior. Even if their fate contains noble patterns, they are likely to have a reputation for being promiscuous. They should also avoid the conflict between Kuigang. If this occurs, they are likely to be fierce and rebellious, unwilling to obey, or to live a wandering life. If they have excessive strength in旺 and encounter劫杀 in the middle, with continuous conflicts, they tend to be fierce and impetuous, and have poor relations with their six relations. However, such people are actually chaste and virtuous, not promiscuous, but they often bring troubles upon themselves. If Xianchi and Dahuos are in the same palace, they tend to be seductive and deceitful. If Tianzhong and Bubaie follow each other, their characters are often deceitful, and they may suffer disgrace from improper relationships. If there is also Xingchong, they will certainly be caught by the authorities for improper relationships. In summary, if a person's fate includes Dahuos, Xianchi, or Tianzhong, they are certain to have disgraceful affairs.

A woman of low destiny often has her day pillar and hour pillar located in the dead or exhausted positions, and also carriesInauspicious Sha, leading to either poverty or low status. If the Five Phases are overly prosperous but accompanied byInauspicious Sha, she is likely to be poor and have to work hard or earn a living by herself in the market, becoming a common and unremarkable woman; however, those with prosperous Five Phases are generally not reduced to the level of courtesans or prostitutes. Among women of low destiny, if the Five Phases are even more dead or exhausted and accompanied byInauspicious Sha and punishments, she will either become a prostitute or a lowly servant. If the chart shows "无礼之刑," or "天中" with an official seal, or a combination entering theStorage and encountering "大耗," she is likely to be a matchmaker, fortune teller, or seller of medicine and charms; those with "建禄" and "贵人" may be market middlemen, and are also women with a bad reputation.

If a woman's birth date includes "Great Expenditure" and "Xianchi," both she and her husband will have wandering hearts and experience mutual disturbances. If "Guanfu" is also present, she is likely to marry a violent and cruel husband, suffering rejection, expulsion, and humiliation, or alternatively, she may harm her husband, and her life will be filled with worries. If a woman's birth time includes "Jiesha," "Great Expenditure," and "Kongwang," her children are unlikely to succeed, and she will be constantly troubled and distressed, or she may give birth to unfilial and rebellious sons. If "Xianchi" is present, she is likely to suffer repeated miscarriages.

When a woman encounters the "Great Expenditure" star in her stream year and large cycle, it is an ominous sign, bringing disturbances related to her husband and son; if it also harms herself, it may lead to serious danger to her life. The reason why "Great Expenditure" is particularly凶 is because it corresponds to the number eight, which is the ultimate yin number, according to the "Zhu Shen Jing." Women should avoid being in a very prosperous state, as excessive prosperity is not suitable even for their appearance, and their vital energy will become unbalanced. Men are yang embracing yin, while women are yin embracing yin. Therefore, men are naturally favorable in prosperity and unfavorable in decline, while women are naturally favorable in decline and unfavorable in prosperity: men gain blessings when prosperous and misfortune when declining; women gain blessings when declining and misfortune when prosperous.

Therefore, it is said, "When 登明 is abundant, beauty is complete; when 太乙 is numerous, desires are excessive." "登明" refers to 亥, and "太乙" refers to 巳. 亥 is the time of nightfall, while 巳 is the time of dawn. Therefore, in female fate, those with many 亥 are outstanding in appearance and quality, while those with many 巳 tend to be more inclined towards sensuality. It is also said, "When wood is abundant, it becomes妖妍; when water is clear, it becomes clean; when metal is numerous, it leads to early death; when fire is strong, it brings about firmness and strength." For women with much wood, their figures are slender and graceful, and they appear alluring. Those with much water have broad and pure dispositions, as water's form is vast and its nature is clear and calm. Those with much metal are impetuous and prone to early death, as metal's nature is hard and brittle. Those with much fire are decisive and strong-willed, as fire's nature is fierce and intense. Those with much earth have abundant fields and ample resources, shining virtue as a woman, and a broad maternal example, because earth's nature is thick and benevolent, capable of supporting all things.

"Carrying the virtues of Heaven and Moon" means: "Heavenly Virtue" belongs to the Yang aspect, starting from the position before the Qian trigram in the first month, moving in order from亥; "Monthly Virtue" belongs to the Yin aspect, starting from the position after the Kun trigram in the first month, moving in order from 未. If a woman's destiny includes both virtues, she may receive titles such as Lady of a County or Lady of a Township; even if not both, her family will be prosperous and wealthy. "Possessing禄, 命, and 身 wealth" means: the element that the heavenly stem of the year overcomes is called "Lúcái," the element that the earthly branch of the year overcomes is called "Mìngcái," and the element that the Nayin sound element overcomes is called "Shēncái." As long as any of these three types of wealth appear in one's destiny, there will be no scarcity. If all three are present, the husband will certainly achieve honor and the son will certainly attain high status.

"The phrase 'those who are cut off by the Yin blade harm the respected relatives, and the most undesirable is pure Yin which is not suitable for offspring' means: the position after the禄 is called 'Yin blade.' A man obtaining it will harm his wife's relatives, while a woman obtaining it will harm her husband's relatives. Additionally, for a female's birth chart, if all the heavenly stems in the year, month, day, and hour are Yin, and she is born between June and November, this is considered extreme Yin with no Yang energy, known as 'pure Yin,' which usually results in no children, because isolated Yin cannot produce things, and solitary Yang cannot generate life."

"The bone marrow breaking calamity and the殃 Luo affecting inside and outside" means: "Bone marrow breaking" is also called "White Robe Kill," and those who receive it will have injuries affecting both the mother's family and the husband's family; "Recommend Pillow Star" refers to the Capping position, and those who receive it will have a life full of disputes and troubles. These two are only used for female fate, not for male fate. "Mandarin Ducks fear seeing water,倾国倾城" means: any of the three patterns "Phoenix," "Lingge," and "Fengzhi," formed by three identical earthly branches and three identical heavenly stems, when falling on a female's fate, becomes "Mandarin Duck Kill," indicating a person who is淫秽 and unfaithful; if there is an excess of water in the fate, the person will tend to become a courtesan with beautiful appearance and charm.

The place where Tianyi is located is called "Nobleman," and the place of prosperity is called "Joy God." If the main stem carries both and they are in the same palace, it is called "competing in the nest," indicating a mistress who runs away secretly. If they fall into Kongwang, this rule does not apply. All of this comes from "Hu Zhong Zi."
