Divination for pregnancy and childbirth begins by determining the roles of the eight spirits: the Chief Symbol governs the pregnant mother; the Snake governs miscarriage and spotting; the Tai Yin governs the midwife; Liu He governs the gender of the child; Gou Chen and Bai Hu govern the birth canal,催生 items, and the birth deity; Zhu Que and Yuan Wu govern the placenta and lochia; Jiudi governs the fetal deity; and Jiu Tian governs the birth deity. Then, using the eight gates for interpretation: Xiu Men indicates a safe pregnancy with a delayed delivery, often resulting in a male child; Sheng Men indicates a smooth pregnancy and delivery, often resulting in a male child; Shang Men indicates the mother experiencing fear but still results in a male child; Du Men warns of a possible miscarriage, often resulting in a female child; Jing Men indicates a safe pregnancy with a rapid delivery, often resulting in a female child; Si Men indicates unfavorable conditions for both mother and child, often resulting in a female child; Jing Men indicates concern for injury or loss, often resulting in a female child; and Kai Men is favorable for delivery but unfavorable for pregnancy, often resulting in a male child.
To determine the time of birth and delivery, take the four positions of each Heavenly Stem: its "womb" (胎), "nourishment" (养), "growth" (长生), and "death" (死). For example, Jia is in the womb in You, nourished in Xu, grows in Hai, and dies in Wu. Yi is in the womb in Shen, nourished in Wei, grows in Wu, and dies in Hai. Bing is in the womb in Wei, nourished in Chou, grows in Yin, and dies in You. Ding is in the womb in Hai, nourished in Xu, grows in You, and dies in Yin. Wu is in the womb in Zi, nourished in Chou, grows in Yin, and dies in You. Ji is in the womb in Hai, nourished in Xu, grows in You, and dies in Yin. Geng is in the womb in Mao, nourished in Chen, grows in Si, and dies in Zi. Xin is in the womb in Yin, nourished in Chou, grows in Zi, and dies in Si. Ren is in the womb in Wu, nourished in Wei, grows in Shen, and dies in Mao. Gui is in the womb in Si, nourished in Chen, grows in Mao, and dies in Shen.
Further dividing the nine stars'旺气 (prosperous qi): Tianpeng belongs to the prosperous qi of water, Tianren belongs to the prosperous qi of earth, Tianchong belongs to the prosperous qi of wood, Tianfu belongs to the prosperous qi of wood, Tianying belongs to the prosperous qi of fire, Tianrui belongs to the prosperous qi of earth, Tianqin belongs to the prosperous qi of earth, Tianzhu belongs to the prosperous qi of metal, Tianxin belongs to the prosperous qi of metal. Further dividing the nine palaces' mastery over birth periods and gender: the first palace encountering the day and hour of the original chart, as well as the寅 hour on申 day or未 day, indicates the birth of a male child. The second palace, belonging to the four directions' earth and being yang, indicates the birth of a male child. The third palace encountering the day and hour of the original chart, or giving birth on丑 or寅 day and hour. The fourth palace corresponds to the solar terms of申子辰 and the qi of巳酉丑; if this is opposite, the birth may encounter difficulties and punishments. The fifth palace corresponds to the solar terms of earth, indicating the birth of twins. The sixth palace corresponds to the solar terms of寅午戌, and the birth of a male child should be cautious of unexpected disturbances; if it corresponds to the qi of亥卯未, the birth of a female child should be cautious of falling into weakness and confinement. The seventh palace encountering the day and hour of the original chart, as well as giving birth at the亥 hour on辰 day or巳 day, indicates the birth of a female child. The eighth palace belongs to the four repositories' earth and is yin, indicating the birth of a female child. The ninth palace encountering the day and hour of the original chart for birth, or giving birth at卯 hour on酉 day or巳 hour on亥 day.
The method of portal divination states that the earth gate should not suffer punishment, ensuring a safe pregnancy; if the heavenly gate is accompanied by auspicious deities and the Heavenly Horse, childbirth will be free from worries. A pairing with a yang star indicates the birth of a male child, while a pairing with a yin star indicates the birth of a female child. The method of the three stems: the first stem indicates a stable pregnancy but delayed delivery; if the opening occurs, it signifies the birth of a male child, and if the closing occurs, it signifies the birth of a female child, thus determining the cause. The second stem indicates a suspended and undetermined fetal position, nearing childbirth, with signs of miscarriage and punishment and clash hidden between opening and closing. The third stem indicates a weak fetal energy that leads to immediate childbirth, with the timing determined by the Heavenly Horse and White Tiger at the moment of opening and closing. Additionally, the first stem is favorable for the first child, the second stem for the second child, and the third stem for the third child; by determining which stem the mother's birth year falls under, one can know the outcome.
Discussing the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches: The Day Stem represents the mother, and the Hour Stem represents the fetus. The gender is determined by the Nayin sound element. A birth in the order of generation is favorable for delivery, while a birth in the reverse order depends on the hour. The transformed deity, the combined deity, the fetal position, and the position of crime are all determined according to odd and even, yin and yang. Further combine with prosperity and strength, weakness and confinement, solitude and deficiency, as well as the meaning of the lesson's origin, the useful deity, and the flying palace and hidden palace. If the overall divination image has no flaws, it is a good omen. If it transforms into the mother's deity or the official ghost deity, there will be danger to the mother and child. One must also carefully examine the year of movement, the original destiny, and the Nayin sound element. Only when "Heavenly Joy" and life qi appear at the right time will the delivery occur.
On the Chief Symbol: For a woman in childbirth, the Chief Symbol is the main focus, while for the fetus, the Liu He is the main concern. Then, one should seek the principles of auspiciousness and inauspiciousness from the aspects of mutual conflict and the state of prosperity and strength. When the Teng She and Bai Hu stimulate the Liu He, it indicates the time of delivery. When the Jiudi and Tai Yin combine with the Liu He, delivery will occur after the month is completed. One should also examine whether the day and hour are free from harm, ensuring the mother and child are safe and united. Furthermore, one should specifically look at which of the Six Relations the Chief Symbol originates from, and whether the flying cycle reaches the palace in a way that is mutually generating and harmonious. As for auspiciousness or inauspiciousness and the gender of the child, one should carefully consider the yin and yang and the odd and even, determining them based on the official star and the Six Instruments.
On Duty Gate: Using the concept of Duty Gate to determine whether the child is male or female. If a favorable gate falls in a yang palace, the child is likely a strong and fierce son like a dragon or leopard. If a yin gate falls in a yin palace, the child is likely a graceful and ethereal daughter like a fairy from the Jade Pool. It is most undesirable to encounter punishments, restrictions, or voids. If the palace restrains the gate, the child is mostly unlikely to survive. If the gate restrains the palace, there may be some danger. If one wishes to predict a completely auspicious pregnancy and childbirth, it is necessary for the palace and the Post Horse to be mutually supportive. When the Heavenly Horse rises and moves vigorously, that is the best situation.
On the Ten Heavenly Stems: The Six Instruments represent the mother, and the Three Marvels represent the child. They should be examined according to birth, combination, conflict, and confinement. The positions of fetal development, nurturing, birth, and death should be carefully analyzed based on the day branch and time. When considering the origin and movement of the palace, both upper and lower aspects should be investigated. On the Nine Stars: The Nine Stars are divided into yin and yang to determine fetal development. Prosperity, strength, weakness, and confinement should be assessed based on the day and hour. If the fetal position encounters death qi, waste qi, or isolation, it should be analyzed according to the sequence of the palace and the five phases. If the fetus enters a tomb but is also supported by a beneficial force, it can distinguish between a quick or delayed delivery; if the fetal energy is currently strong, then delivery is imminent. The physical form of the fetus can also be inferred: entering the official ghost, wife's wealth, or seal official positions has different implications. If the transformation is empty and then supported by a beneficial force, the child will be like a traveler who cannot stay; if the transformation is death and sits in a tomb, there will be worries at the time of delivery.
On the Nine Palaces: The Nine Palaces begin with the starting point, which is divided according to the solar terms, and then further divided into hours. However, dividing too finely may cause obstructions. If the position of the fetus is on the Post Horse, it indicates movement and change in the fetal condition. If the position of Growth also coincides with the Post Horse, then childbirth will be smooth. If the metal and fire combination meets an empty position, labor is about to begin. If the water and wood combination meets an empty position, things will not go well. If the wasted earth combination falls into an empty and陷 position, miscarriage is certain. All these must be considered in relation to the woman's birth year and destiny to determine the meaning. On the Gates and the Three Mandates: There is a special method for divining pregnancy and childbirth, which depends on the yin and yang of the Gates and the opening and closing of the Three Mandates. If it meets yang and is open, childbirth will be smooth. If it meets yin and is closed, the fetal condition will be stable, and there is no need to be cautious.
Discussing auspicious and inauspicious patterns: obtaining "Wu" (青龙返首) is most favorable for predicting pregnancy; obtaining "Flying Bird Falling into a Pit" (飞鸟跌穴) indicates a吉祥 outcome for childbirth. Encountering "White Tiger Rampant" (白虎猖狂) suggests possible danger for the mother; encountering "Azure Dragon Fleeing" (青龙逃走) implies potential hardship for the fetus. Although the遁格 pattern generally indicates favorable outcomes, there may be minor flaws. Fraudulent or deceptive patterns are not inherently inauspicious, but their use in matters of pregnancy and childbirth may involve uncertainties. If "Three Marvels in Command" (三奇得使) is obtained, one should examine the Six Instruments and the Eight Symbols' yin and yang to determine whether the child will be a son or a daughter. If "Yü Nu Guarding the Gate" (玉女守门) is obtained, one should investigate the sequence of palace positions and the associated burial sites to discern whether it is favorable for a male or a female. Encountering "Téng Shé Twisting and Turning" (螣蛇夭矫) indicates that pregnancy is not a favorable omen and one should also be cautious of dishonest midwives. Encountering "Zhu Que Throwing Himself into the River" (朱雀投江) suggests that the child may live a long life, but one should also be wary of premature birth.
When encountering "Hidden Chant" or "Flying Stem," the mother will inevitably experience discomfort and moaning; when encountering "Flying Palace" or "Hidden Palace," the infant will certainly face difficulties. When encountering "Great Pattern" or "Small Pattern," mother and child will find it hard to both be safe; when encountering criminal pattern or contradictory pattern, both before and after childbirth will be unsmooth. When encountering "Year Pattern" or "Month Pattern," the fetal energy will be heavy as a mountain; when encountering "Hour Pattern" or "Day Pattern," the mother will be confused and helpless at the time of giving birth. When encountering "White enters Fluorescent" or "Fluorescent enters White," the speed of childbirth should be considered separately, and fortune and misfortune should be calculated according to each palace. When encountering "Return Chant" or "Hidden Chant," divination regarding childbirth should clearly distinguish whether it is the star returning and hiding or the gate returning and hiding, and each should be carefully analyzed: if the stars are light and unstable, the fetal energy will be insufficient; if the gates encounter return chant, there will be many troubles during childbirth. If both stars and gates form return chant, although childbirth may be quick, there will still be some hindrance. When encountering "Five Unfavorable Hours," it indicates calamity; when encountering "Six Instruments Hit by Crime," it indicates misfortune. Entering the tomb or falling into the sky net and earth net indicates unfavorable childbirth. In addition, the birth years of both the mother and the father should always be considered.

The first palace, when in command, indicates a gentle and virtuous nature; when not in command, the person may be reckless and fall into the company of the disreputable. The second palace, when in command, signifies a kind and sincere character. The third palace, when in command, indicates a decent appearance; when not in command, the person may have facial blemishes or moles and be inclined to licentiousness.
The method of door and gate: For a male family, they look at the heavenly gate; for a female family, they look at the earthly gate. If the door and gate are occupied by the "Chief Symbol," "Too Yin," "Nine Heavens," "Nine Earths," and "Six Harmonies," these are auspicious deities, indicating prosperity for the male family and flourishing for the female family. The method of the three stems: The first stem is suitable for pairing with the eldest son and daughter, which is favorable for the first marriage; the second stem is suitable for pairing with the middle son and daughter; the third stem is suitable for pairing with the youngest son and daughter, which is favorable for remarriage or taking a second wife. If a stem is yang and opens without being harmed, the male family will be prosperous and wealthy; if a stem is yin and closes without being harmed, the female family will be abundant and beautiful.
In discussing the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches: the Day Stem represents the male partner, and the Hour Stem represents the female partner. The judgment should be based on the generation and control relationships of the Nayin sound elements. If the Hour and Day Stems are mutually generating or harmonizing, the two families are in harmony. If the transformed spirit (huà shén) changes its form, one should check whether it makes sense: if it transforms into the parents' yao or official ghost yao, the marriage is unlikely to succeed; if it transforms into the descendants' yao or wife's wealth yao, this marriage can be accepted. If metal and water harm each other, one should check whether the season is appropriate; if water and fire control and assist each other, then both upper and lower aspects should be considered. In general, if something is in a state of rest and is controlled, the matter is still acceptable; if it is in a flourishing state but suffers from punishment and clash or is subdued, it is not favorable. Finally, one should also examine the birth years and life spans of both parties, as well as the superiority and inferiority of the harmful gate and the rest gate to determine the overall situation.
On the Value Symbol: For a man's marriage and a woman's marriage, it is important that yin and yang are in harmony, and that each supports the other, so that the marriage can be properly established. "Teng She" and "Zhu Què" are like matchmakers who facilitate the marriage, while "Gou Chen" and "Bai Hu" are those who disrupt the marriage. "Jiu Di" indicates delay, "Jiu Tian" indicates speed, and "Yuan Wu" signifies false affection and deceit. In summary, the Value Symbol is a key factor in determining marriage. On the Duty Gate: The Duty Gate has traditionally been used to examine whether a marriage will succeed or fail. The direction and the age of the person are also verified through this. If the combination is harmonious and not overcome, it is a favorable sign; but if it falls into a weak and confined position, or into an empty or trapped state, then all efforts are in vain.
On the Ten Heavenly Stems: The Three Marvels and Six Instruments differentiate yin and yang, and the circumstances of male and female partners have different embellishments. It is good for the Three Marvels not to enter their墓 (mound) and the Six Instruments not to be bound. As for proper conjunctions or lateral conjunctions, they should be carefully examined day by day. On the Nine Stars: The classification of the Nine Stars can recognize a person's temperament, and like divining one's destiny, it is important to consider their origin. The qi that has passed and the qi that is coming should be discussed according to the seasonal timing, and from this, the secrets of poverty, wealth, nobility, and humility are revealed.
Discussing the Nine Palaces: Those who start with the Water formation often indicate a tendency towards licentiousness; if they receive auspicious deities without suffering punishment, they may indeed appear dignified. However, they are still disliked for being out of season and encountering isolation and emptiness, which would lead to an uneasy marriage and future hardships. Those who start with the Fire formation are suspected of having insincerity and deceit; if they receive auspicious deities, the man will be talented and the woman will be beautiful, indicating a good match. However, if they are out of season and encounter punishment or storage, there will be problems shortly after marriage. Those who start with the Wood formation indicate a gentle and mild nature, suggesting a refined and virtuous woman and a gentleman. If they encounter punishment, imprisonment, emptiness, or wasteland, they may suffer from hidden illnesses and injuries, and lack control over their own lives. Those who start with the Metal formation indicate mutual harmony; if they are in season and not affected by conflict, they will form a good relationship like a peacock shot through by an arrow on a screen. However, if they encounter punishment, conflict, emptiness, wasteland, or storage, they will bring about problems such as dullness, thinness, darkness, and obesity.
Discussing the gate and door: When both the heavenly gate and earthly door are auspicious and peaceful, the two families are suitable for marriage. If the gate is凶 but the door is吉, the male family will not prosper; if the door is凶 but the gate is吉, the female family will suffer. If both the gate and door are凶, both families will suffer damage. Discussing the three heavenly stems: The first stem (孟甲) encountering a favorable gate is most suitable for marriage. The second stem (仲甲) and third stem (季甲) are mutually supportive, and the same principle applies. The most dangerous situation is when the stem is in囚气, accompanied by刑克 and 阖, and if it also falls in 休气 or 废地, both parties will hesitate and be indecisive.
Discussing auspicious and inauspicious patterns: obtaining "Wu" signifies marrying a wealthy and prosperous husband; obtaining "Flying Bird Falling into a Hole" indicates a bride being welcomed with a hundred carriages. Encountering "White Tiger Rampant" or "Azure Dragon Fleeing" leads to mutual harm between the couple. Obtaining "Heavenly Escape" and "Human Escape" suggests a harmonious and respectful marital relationship like that of Liang Hong and Meng Guang. Obtaining "Three Deceptions" and "Five Falsehoods" often indicates a second marriage or a wife who is not the first wife. Obtaining "Three Marvels in Command" signifies a bride in splendid attire and great honor; obtaining "Female Guardian at the Door" suggests a strong-willed wife who dominates the household. Encountering "Tang She Twisting" indicates a quarrelsome and noisy wife; encountering "Red Bird Drowning in the River" suggests an untrustworthy matchmaker. Encountering "Hidden Heaven" and "Flying Heaven" often indicates a fierce and stubborn personality; encountering "Hidden Palace" and "Flying Palace" suggests mutual embarrassment and discomfort. Encountering "Great Pattern" and "Small Pattern" indicates being single, widowed, or childless; encountering criminal patterns and contradictory patterns suggests a violent and stubborn nature in both partners. Encountering "Year Pattern" and "Month Pattern" is unfavorable to the in-laws; encountering "Hour Pattern" and "Day Pattern" suggests an unstable marriage. Encountering "Fluorescent Entering White" and "White Entering Fluorescent" indicates both parties harboring private intentions. Encountering "Five Unfavorable Times" suggests changes in the middle of the relationship; encountering "Six Instruments Attacking Crime" indicates a hot-tempered and impulsive nature. Entering a tomb or falling into the Heavenly and Earthly Net indicates suffering injustice; encountering "Return Chant" and "Hidden Chant" along with gate pressure may lead to misfortune. If both partners' birth years and months are in a mutually generating and harmonious relationship, they will live happily together, old and white-haired, with many descendants.

The nine stars are used to distinguish mountain shapes: Tianpeng belongs to the water form, with a square shape and a sharp tip; Tianren belongs to the earth form, with a winding shape and a sharp tip; Tianchong belongs to the wood form, long and slanting; Tianfu belongs to the wood form, clear, elegant, and graceful; Tianying belongs to the fire form, with a shape similar to the sharp and hollow shape of the water form; Tianrui belongs to the earth form, leaning to one side and not straight; Tianqin belongs to the earth form, square and upright; Tianzhu belongs to the metal form, with a shape that is upturned and has a notch; Tianxin belongs to the metal form, resembling a door or a hollowed-out opening. The nine palaces are used to determine the shape of the site: the first palace forms a water site, the second palace belongs to the earth of the four directions, the third palace forms a wood site, the fourth palace corresponds to the seasons of Shen-Zi-Chen and the climate of Si-You-Chou, the fifth palace corresponds to the seasons and forms an earth site, the sixth palace corresponds to the seasons of Yin-Wu-Xu and the climate of Hai-Mao-Wei, the seventh palace forms a metal site, the eighth palace belongs to the earth of the four reservoirs, and the ninth palace forms a fire site.
The method of examining the entrance and exit: look at the facing mountains that face the case to determine the heavenly gate, and examine the two sides that support and the winding ridge that tightens the energy to determine the earthly gate. The heavenly gate is considered favorable if it aligns with the "Heavenly Nobleman," "Heavenly Horse," and the three auspicious gates of opening, rest, and life. This is considered good. The earthly gate is considered favorable if it aligns with the阴 nobleman, nine evasions, and the five false formations. This is considered excellent. The method of the three stems: the first stem examines the left side's form, which governs the coming dragon; the second stem examines the middle's form, which governs the site; the third stem examines the right side's form, which governs the river water. When encountering an opening, it is only required that it is not harmed; when encountering a closure, it should not be blocked. Between internal and external openings and closings, one can determine the auspiciousness or inauspiciousness of the front and back. If the metal formation has an opening but the sand and water are not collected, blocked, or locked, or if it is entirely closed and cannot transform the energy, it lacks benefit.
The day stem represents a person, the hour stem represents the land, and the sitting mountain and direction are embodied in the nayin sound element. When two stems mutually generate and harmonize, it is suitable for relocation of a tomb. If the land element reversely overcomes the person element, it will not be satisfactory. The nayin sound element of the day pillar represents the sentiment of the sitting mountain, while that of the hour pillar represents the momentum of the direction. If neither the mountain nor the direction is harmed, this place is suitable for building a tomb. If one of them is injured by punishment or injury, one should consider changing the mountain or the direction. The mountain and direction should not overcome the land element; if a land master randomly selects a direction without proper knowledge, he has not truly inherited the tradition. If the person element is overcome and causes harm, then another mountain and direction should be considered. From the harmonization, the dragon spirit can be determined. When the prosperity is transformed, one must distinguish whether it is genuine prosperity or false prosperity, and whether it falls into a state of confinement. The transformed energy and the nayin sound element should mutually generate and harmonize; with such a place, one can achieve official rank and wealth. If further the chief symbol and duty gate are in a strong and flourishing condition, then everything will proceed smoothly from beginning to end, and the tomb can be established.
On the Chief Symbol: When using the Chief Symbol to determine the land, first examine the mountain shape to see which form it belongs to, and observe the characteristics of wood, fire, metal, earth, and water. Then combine this with the prosperous and strong, weak and confined, and the concepts of isolation and deficiency. Investigate the season and examine the position of the palace, and the situation will become clear. The conditions of the tomb site are questioned through the Taiyin and Jiudi. The Bright Hall, roads, and case mountains are examined through the Vermilion Bird and Tengshe. The direction and barriers are questioned through the Jiu Tian. The main mountain and the surrounding hills are described by the Black Tortoise and White Tiger. As long as the Useful God does not commit a crime, does not encounter isolation, does not form a pattern, and is compatible and mutually generating, the land can be dug and a tomb can be built.
On the Duty Gate: The Duty Gate should be considered separately for the mountain and the direction. The changes and transformations between them are quite varied. If a star moves from a weak and confined position to a flourishing one, it is suitable to build a tomb. However, if a star moves from a flourishing position to a weak and confined one, one should avoid starting any construction. It is best to examine both the flying palace and the hidden palace, ensuring they do not harm each other, so that the mountain and direction are harmonious. What is to be avoided is whenInauspicious Sha stars appear on the day and hour of breaking ground, which indeed brings danger. It is even more important to avoid the Duty Gate falling into an inappropriate palace, as one should then urgently relocate the tomb to avoid trouble.
Discussing the Ten Heavenly Stems: Each stem should be checked according to its governing position, and one must avoid having the official ghost to overcome and block the way. Especially if the mountain is located in a position that is disliked, then the land should be considered invalid for that year. If Jia and Yi are prosperous and strong, then the earth qi is flourishing, and the dragon ridge on the left has power. If the main mountain is controlled instead, then trees should be cut down to reduce its strength. If Geng and Xin are resting outside, there is no danger; but if they face upward toward the sky, the White Tiger terrain on the right will be missing. If Bing and Ding are in command, then the peaks are lively and beautiful; if there is any flaw, it will bring disputes and conflicts. If Ren and Gui have their original qi, the coming ridge is deep and solid; if they are dry and weak, the descendants will face difficulties. Wu and Ji are the places where qi gathers and forms a resting place, and they need the life qi and evil qi to be properly balanced. Then check which stem is in a lonely, overcome, or damaged position, and this will determine the deficiency and decline of that area. Finally, classify them according to sons and daughters, parents, wife and wealth, and officials and ghosts, and the wealth and status of the children will be determined by this arrangement.
Discussing the nine stars: generally, the nine stars are valuable when they are pure. If they lose their original energy and transform into official ghosts, they are destined to decline. When a good star is supported by another good star, it becomes even more auspicious; when a bad star is further strengthened, its harmful effects become even more terrifying. As long as the original star can generate the original tomb, and both the flying palace and the hidden palace take care of the ancestral mountains, it is considered beneficial. To examine the changes in form and situation, one must study the concepts of incoming and outgoing energy and the meanings of the stars that are added or overlaid. Then, by carefully analyzing the prosperity, strength, weakness, and confinement of each star, one can determine whether the terrain is beneficial or not.
On the Nine Palaces: The starting point of the Nine Palaces is used to determine the ancestral ridge of a mountain. If the original layout is not isolated, it can be considered a favorable site. If any part of the layout falls into the empty period, the transformed energy will not be genuine, and it cannot be considered good. Even if the entire layout is not harmed, one must carefully examine the original layout: from which palace it originates, to which palace it flies, and the trend of passing through fields and ridges must follow the terrain. Then observe how many chens the returning layout has passed through, and carefully examine whether the fetal energy can be transformed into a solid form. If each section enters a thriving area, this is a favorable site bestowed by heaven. For the upper period layout, it is suitable to be biased to the left; for the middle period, it follows the center; and for the lower period, it is suitable to be biased to the right. One should distinguish the conditions of each period according to their order, whether they are in command or not, all determined by the seasonal changes.
Discussing the gate and door: The prosperity or decline of the gate and door is easiest to verify by observing the yin and yang noble stars. If a yang noble star of good fortune is present at the heavenly gate, blessings will come earlier. If a yin noble star of good fortune is present at the earthly door, prosperity will come later. If the gate is favorable but the door is unfavorable, the family's fortune will gradually decline. If the door is favorable but the gate is unfavorable, the family will start off with difficulties. If both the gate and door are entirely unfavorable or entirely favorable, then the fortune will follow this pattern throughout. Discussing the three heavenly stems: The three heavenly stems govern the left, center, and right sides. Dragon, tomb, sand, and water each have their own positions. Within the concepts of opening and closing there are subtle distinctions. As long as the useful god is properly placed, it will be a divine land of blessings.
Discussing auspicious and inauspicious patterns: obtaining "Wu" (青龙返首) indicates the shape of a dragon returning to its ancestral origin; obtaining "Flying Bird Falling into a Cave" (飞鸟跌穴) signifies the image of a snake entering a dragon's nest. Encountering "White Tiger Rampant" (白虎猖狂) requires understanding that the water on the right side is violently flowing without restraint; encountering "Azure Dragon Fleeing" (青龙逃走) suggests fear that the dragon pulse on the left is rushing away without looking back. Each遁格 (dun ge) has its own use, among which obtaining "Earth遁" (地遁) is especially favorable. False patterns also vary, and when encountering "Ghost Pretender" (鬼假) in a burial context, it is actually very auspicious. If one obtains the "Three Deceptions" (三诈) pattern, one must consider the depth and shallowness during the excavation; if one obtains the "Three Victories" (三胜) palace, and it is located near mountainous terrain, it is a superb site. Obtaining the "Three Marvels with Duty" (三奇得使) indicates that the qi pulse spreads far and wide; obtaining "Female Deity Guarding the Gate" (玉女守门) suggests that the surrounding area is strictly protected. The three gates and four doors must not be harmed or injured, just as the duty gate, time origin, and day origin are. "Heavenly Horse" (天马) and the private door of the earth are best when accompanied by "Liu He" (六合), "Jiu Tian" (九天), and the chief symbol and duty gate. Encountering "Tie Sha Twisting" (螣蛇夭矫) indicates an unstable site, and one should be cautious of roads cutting through and damaging the site; encountering "Red Bird Falling into the River" (朱雀投江) indicates that the case mountain is low and sinking, and one should suspect that the original water is rushing directly away. Encountering "Hidden Dry" (伏干) and "Flying Dry" (飞干) suggests that this site will surely undergo change, and it may eventually become a battlefield in the future. Encountering "Flying Palace" (飞宫) and "Hidden Palace" (伏宫) indicates that this site will surely encounter misfortune, and one should observe whether ants gather in the site or if wind penetrates the coffin in the future.
When encountering "Great Obstruction" or "Small Obstruction," it indicates that water does not flow towards the site but instead flows against it, causing conflict. When encountering "Crime Obstruction" or "Contradiction Obstruction," it suggests that the surrounding landforms cannot be gathered together, leading to damage to the entrance and exit. When encountering "Fluorescent into White," it indicates the spread of scandal and legal troubles. When encountering "White into Fluorescent," it suggests decay of corpses, rotting coffins, and suffering. If the year, month, day, or hour encounters "Contradiction Obstruction," the fortune of dragon, grave, landforms, and water can be determined from this. When encountering "Five Unfavorable Times," it indicates that the people in the family are not thriving. When encountering "Six Instruments Mutual Attack," it indicates that wealth is scattered. When entering a tomb or falling into the heaven and earth net, the surrounding landforms all carry criminal and harmful influences. When encountering "Return Chant" or "Hidden Chant" along with gate pressure, the mountain and direction cannot achieve auspiciousness. When the chief symbol and duty gate are weak and confined, even if burial takes place, it will not bring fortune. When the day and hour encounter mutual attack or harm, even if this time is used, it is inevitable to suffer loss. It is essential that the nayin sound elements of day and hour are not subjected to mutual attack or harm, and the chief symbol and duty gate are in a state of growth and strength. Only then is the burial time considered excellent.
Field and grain divination
When divining the harvest of crops, first determine the responsibilities of the eight deities: the Chief Symbol oversees farmers and crops; the Snake oversees locusts and frog pests; the Tai Yin oversees seeds; the Liu He oversees young crops; the Gou Chen and White Tiger oversee the strength of oxen and calamities; the Vermilion Bird and Black Tortoise oversee the heads of ears of grain, drought, locust plagues, and also shallow roots suffering from waterlogging; the Jiudi oversees field ridges and accumulated harvests; and the Jiu Tian oversees the fields and planting. Then, using the eight gates, determine the sequence of agricultural activities: the Xiu Men oversees water diversion and irrigation, the Sheng Men oversees spring plowing, the Shang Men oversees weeding and field cultivation, the Du Men oversees the growth of stems, the Jing Men oversees flowering and stem elongation, the Si Men oversees autumn harvest and fruiting, the Jing Men oversees reaping, and the Kai Men oversees the emergence of ears, leaf expansion, and grain development.
The ten Heavenly Stems correspond to the following crops: Jia governs seedlings, ox power, manual labor, and dry rice; Yi governs the wooden part of plants; Bing governs flowers and beans; Ding governs ears and hemp; Wu governs millet, sorghum, cotton, and beans; Ji governs rice and field ridges; Geng governs barley and also governs pests; Xin governs wheat and seeds, and also governs hail; Ren governs sap and late rice; Gui governs harvest and fruiting. The nine stars correspond to the following: Tianpeng governs芒稻 and sticky rice, and also governs water disasters; Tianren governs dry rice and dry grains, and also governs storms; Tianfu governs grains and millet, and is also a god of fortune; Tianying governs the shock of flower ears and drought; Tianrui governs the god of ripe grains; Tianqin governs crops and is the god of governance; Tianzhu governs pests, plagues, and withering; Tianxin governs seeds.
The nine palaces each govern specific crops: the first palace governs beans. If it is in command, water is abundant; if in harmony, water is sufficient and there is a good harvest. The second palace, when in command, results in good growth of crops, and it belongs to the four directions' earth. The third palace governs flax. If it is out of command, drought should be guarded against; if in harmony, the flowers will be beautiful. The fourth palace corresponds to the seasons of Shen-Zi-Chen and the climate of Si-You-Chou. The fifth palace corresponds to the seasons and is the overall master of the five grains. The sixth palace corresponds to the seasons of Yin-Wu-Xu and the climate of Hai-Mao-Wei. The seventh palace governs wheat. If it is out of command and is also attacked, pests and poor harvest should be guarded against; if not attacked, there will be a harvest. The eighth palace belongs to the four reservoirs' earth. If it is out of command, crops will be uneven and withered. The ninth palace governs millet. If it is in command, there will be a bountiful harvest; if out of command, the field will be full of weeds.
The method of portal divination: observe the planting and flowering of crops to determine the heavenly gate, and observe plowing and harvesting to determine the earthly gate. If it opens during a yang period and is timely, it indicates a bountiful harvest; if it closes during a yin period and is untimely, it indicates a poor harvest. The method of three heavenly stems: the first heavenly stem is suitable for planting early grain, the second for mid-season rice, and the third for late millet. If it opens during a yang period and is not harmed, it is not afraid of drought; if it closes during a yin period and encounters harm, it should be concerned about water disasters.
Discussing the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches: The Day Stem represents the farmer, the Hour Stem represents the field, and the Nayin sound element oversees the strength of the oxen used for plowing and the seeds sown. If the Hour Stem nourishes the Day Stem, it is favorable for renting land and farming. If the Day Stem overcomes the Hour Stem, it may still allow for preservation. If the opposite occurs, one should beware of calamities. The transformed deity and harmonious deity of the Nayin should be examined according to the Earlier Heaven numbers. Among the Lesson Patterns, the most feared are metal and fire. Pestilence, famine, and drought should be categorized and identified. Earthly and wooden elements are suitable to use, while water elements should be cautious of flooding. One should examine the condition of the fields and seeds one by one, and then carefully consider the season before making a judgment.
On the Chief Symbol: The Chief Symbol and Liu He both fear being harmed or afflicted. In flying palace and hidden palace, strength is achieved through birth and prosperity. If Vermilion Bird, Qingsha, Black Tortoise, and White Tiger are placed in positions of weakness and confinement, it is still acceptable, but it is most dangerous if they are strong and aggressive. On the Duty Gate: The Duty Gate governs spring plowing and eastern farming, as well as autumn harvest and western success. According to the order of the eight gates, the superiority and inferiority become clear. It is good if it is in season and encounters water without forming a harmful pattern. If the Useful God is prosperous and strong, then agricultural affairs can be carried out everywhere.
Discussing the Ten Heavenly Stems: The stages of growth such as sprouting, growth, flowering, and grain formation are each associated with the Heavenly Stems. The seasonal weather conditions are also sequentially arranged. If the main stem is riding on life qi and is not subjected to punishment or attack, and the auxiliary deities can also support it, then the harvest of grain will be abundant like clouds. Discussing the Nine Stars: The Nine Stars are classified according to the Five Phases, each with its own category. If the auspicious stars are in command, there will be a good harvest. If the Useful God does not harmonize or generate with the stars on the Heaven Plate, it indicates that human efforts are uneven and things will be obstructed and unsmooth. Discussing the Nine Palaces: The Nine Palaces start with their initial numbers and represent the things they belong to. If they are prosperous, strong, mutually generating, and harmonious, then the crops will mature. If the hour encounters a criminal pattern or a state of isolation and deficiency, then according to ancient methods, such an unfavorable year should be suitable for changing to planting millet.
On the gates and doors: When the stars in the four seasons are in command and enter the gates and doors, if they are not blocked or harmed, the grain and millet will be abundant. If the gate is auspicious but the door is inauspicious, the autumn harvest will be empty. If the door is auspicious but the gate is inauspicious, the spring plowing will be disrupted. On the three stems (Jia): The three stems are used to distinguish the fields for sowing. When does the opening occur and when does the closing occur, each has its own order and competition (note: following this, the text is unknown). If the three auspicious gates combine with the 'three victories' pattern, then the crops will be as dense as clouds, spreading across the fields (note: meaning the ridges of land).
Discussing auspicious and inauspicious patterns: obtaining "Wu" and "Flying Bird Falling into a Pit" are both auspicious signs. If they are not subjected to punishment, not entering the grave, nor falling into emptiness, naturally there will be thousands of granaries, and everyone will praise. Encountering "White Tiger Rampant" and "Azure Dragon Fleeing" is originally considered inauspicious; but if they meet the assistance of the Thunder and Wind trigrams, it will first be dangerous but eventually result in a good harvest. Obtaining "Earth Concealment" and "Human Concealment" leads to success in all endeavors; obtaining "Three Deceptions" and "Five Falsehoods" is suitable for adapting to circumstances. Obtaining "Three Marvels in Command" ensures abundance of all crops; obtaining "Yü Nu Guarding the Gate" means that although there may be minor damage to the native things, ultimately profit is achieved. The three gates and four doors are for farmers to work and rest, and it is favorable to have the Benevolent Star shining. As for encountering "Heavenly Horse" and the secret door of the earth, these are like windmills and water wheels, but one must beware of falling into a penal pattern.
When encountering "Teng She Tiao Jiao," the crops cannot flourish and produce grain; when encountering "Zhu Que Tou Jiang," the excellent ears of grain will be gathered into the granary. When encountering "Fu Yin" or "Fei Gan," there will be locust plagues; when encountering "Fu Gong" or "Fei Gong," the farming will be chaotic and disordered. When encountering "Da Ge" or "Xiao Ge," there will be floods and pests; when encountering criminal patterns or contradictory patterns, there will be drought and blight. If the year, month, day, or hour encounters "Bi Ge," then according to the waxing and waning of the Five Phases, the calamities or blessings can be judged. When encountering "Ying Ru Bai," the summer grain will be damaged; when encountering "Bai Ru Ying," the autumn harvest should be guarded against. When encountering "Wu Bu Yu Shi," efforts will be in vain; when encountering "Liui Ji Xing," farming will also be obstructed. Entering a tomb or falling into the heaven and earth net, or disputes may arise due to adjacent fields. When encountering "Fan Yin," "Fu Yin," and door pressure, even if one has rented land, the mind will remain restless. This passage from the "Wu Hou Fu" is more reliable than the "Qian Jin Jue," and should be carefully considered by tenant farmers when farming. Further check the person's age and birth year to see if they encounter favorable or harmful conditions, and by combining with related deities, the judgment of agricultural matters will be most accurate.
