Tianfu Nobleman
Charting guides: BaZi Chart Calculator
The term "Tianfu Nobleman" refers to a situation where the official star is located at its own禄 position, meaning a person has both official position and禄, which is considered a blessing from heaven. For example, the day master of Jia uses Xi as its official star, and the禄 of Xi is in You. Therefore, when the day master is in You, it is considered as "Tianfu Nobleman." Similarly, the day master of Yi uses Shen as its official star. If the column contains Xiyou and is further assisted by the blessing god, and is in a thriving and vital position, it is most favorable. This is also called "Lugan Fushen." Those who encounter this are likely to achieve high academic success, hold prestigious official positions, and often take on important duties such as drafting imperial edicts and handling literary affairs.
Heavenly Stem generates the official salary.
The classics state: If metal meets fire, it holds great power and can serve as a defense commander or governor (such as on days like Gengwu, Gengyin, Gengxu, Xinsi, Xinwei, etc.). If water meets earth, it enters the official ranks and enjoys the salary of a deputy minister (such as on days like Renwu, Renxu, Kuisi, Guichou, Guiwei, etc.). If wood meets metal, it removes decay and transforms calamity into power, creating a powerful influence like thunder (such as on days like Jiashen, Jiaxu, Yisi, Yiyou, Yichou, etc.). If fire meets water, it controls military power and serves as a general defending the three borders (such as on days like Bingshen, Bingzi, Bingchen, Dinghai, Dingchou, etc.). If earth meets wood, it is a proper official position, bringing good fortune of the eight seats and the three platforms (such as on days like Wuyin, Wuchen, Jimao, Jiwei, Jihai, etc.). This is the essence of the White Tiger holding the world pattern: the day's ruler and the official and noble elements should be balanced and equal; if one is excessive or lacking, it fails to achieve a harmonious state. It is most dangerous to have conflicts, clashes, breaks, or harm, as any damage to the noble energy will ruin the pattern.
For example, on a Gengwu day, if the day's stem is sitting on a Ding fire official star, it is favorable to see Jia or Yi wealth stars that can generate the official star, and Wu or Ji scholar stars that can generate the self. It is unfavorable to see Bing fire seven evils that mix with the official star, and also unfavorable to see Gui water official star, as well as Zi which clashes with Wu. The same principle applies to other stems. It is also said that when the day's ruler is sitting on an official star, it is not very unfavorable to have a clash, just like holding something in your hand, there is no reason it would be taken away. Such people are clever and lustful, quick-witted and changeable with strategies. If the official star is only in the day's branch, one needs to go through a wealth and official star fortune to succeed. If the birth month has the official star's strength, the branch has wealth and official star, and the hour also has the same, then it is truly prestigious. On a Renwu day, the day's stem is in the same native land as the official and horse, and if it meets Gengxu hour, it is even better: Ren sits on its own wealth and official star, with Geng and Xin controlling the Jia and Yi, allowing Ren to obtain Ji earth as official and noble status. For example, on a Wuchen day, the Chen branch has Yi wood as the official star of Wu. Those born in spring are prosperous, while those born in autumn are only of empty reputation without real fortune. An old song says: the official star sitting on the day is most special, mostly due to ancestral blessings and a solid foundation; if one further goes through the scholar's land in fortune, then one can change from a green robe to a purple robe.
Annual Virtue Official of the Year
The official star found in the heavenly stem and earthly branch of the year pillar is called "Sui De." Its favorable or unfavorable nature is the same as the official star in the month's stem. When this occurs, the person is certainly born into a family of officials or inherits an official position from their grandfather. If the month's stem is also in the area of wealth and official star, and the person's fortune progresses towards a strong wealth and official star, and the day's stem is strong, their status is certain. Generally, encountering an official star in the year's stem brings the greatest fortune and success at an early age. For example, in the case of Guiyou, Gengshen, Bingzi, and Bingshen: the official star is present in the year pillar, and the pillar forms an official star combination, with the fortune returning to the day's stem. The fire of the day's stem overcomes the metal of Sheng and You, which represents wealth, thus achieving both wealth and official star; the two Bing stems strengthen the day's stem. At the age of seventeen or eighteen, when the person enters the Wuwu fortune, although Wu conflicts with Zi, the Sheng and Zi form a water combination, which prevents the conflict from occurring, and the day's stem remains strong, thus achieving early success and advancement. An ancient rhyme says: the official star in the year's stem is like the root of a plant, certainly born into a wealthy and noble family; when the fortune meets a strong body, wealth generates official star, and the seal star supports, the fortune is boundless. It also says: the official star in the year's stem is called Sui De, which is favorable when it meets wealth and the seal star, and the body's palace is strong; if it does not meet the seven harmful stars or biased official stars, the person will achieve unparalleled wealth and honor.
The official in the hour position is in the correct position.
"The official star in the hour" refers to situations such as when on a Jia day, the酉 (You) or 辛 (Xin) hour is used, or on a Yi day, the 申 (Shen) or 庚 (Geng) hour is used. The official star in the hour is the same as that in the month, but its strength is weaker, and its benefits usually manifest in old age or through having a capable son. It also requires the presence of a seal star to assist. An ancient song says: A single official star is useful and does not need many; too many may harm the body, while too few brings harmony. If the day master is strong and meets another seal star to nourish it, one is sure to rise quickly in officialdom and achieve success in the imperial examinations.
Official, Seal, Rank, and Repository
The text says: Among the official stars, if the禄库 (wealth and official position repository) is seen, and wealth is also present, then gold and jade will come from heaven. For example, on days of Jia or Yi, if Yichou appears; on days of Bing or Ding, if Gengwu appears; on days of Wu or Ji, if Renchen appears; on days of Geng or Xin, if Yiwei appears; on days of Ren or Gui, if Bingxu appears; these are cases of this kind. There is a case with the combination of Dingchou, Xinhai, Guiyou, and Renxu:癸 (water) takes 丙 (fire) as wealth, and 戌 (earth) is the wealth repository; it takes 戊 (earth) as official star, and 戌 (earth) contains strong 戊 (earth), and the wealth repository also supports it; 酉 (metal) is the印 (supporting official), and 丑 (earth) is the印 repository. Wealth, official star, and印 all meet the repository and are strong, and there is no conflict, so it is considered noble.
When there is mutual punishment (xiang xing) and encountering a noble or respected person (yu gui)
The classic text says: When the day and the hour are in mutual conflict but also meet the nobleman, it indicates someone who holds authority and enforces laws. It also says: The tiger (寅) conflicts with the snake (巳), and the snake conflicts with the monkey (申); on days of geng and xin, encountering the tiger is the nobleman; the rabbit (卯) conflicts with the rat (子), and the rat conflicts with the rabbit; when gui and yi are paired, they become rich and pure; the dog (未) conflicts with the dog (戌), and the dog conflicts with the dog; when jia and wu meet the sheep (未), they naturally achieve honor and prominence—these are all unfavorable for serving as a scholar official, but they indicate control over military power. For example, the birth chart of Liu Yingjie, the Minister of War, is guiwei, yimao, bingxu, wuzi: the rat (子) conflicts with the rabbit (卯) but is supported by yi and gui, and the sheep (未) conflicts with the dog (戌) but is supported by wu, so he served successively in the military and judicial departments; although he had a reputation in literature, he never held a position in the academy or the Hanlin Academy.
Triple Harmony meets Favorable Influences
The text says: Among the triple harmonies, if one can meet the nobleman and the official post, one will have much wealth and grain throughout life. For example, in the case of the birth chart with Yisi, Yichou, Yisi, and Xinsi: Yi is the day master, and Geng is considered the nobleman. Although Geng is not present in the heavenly stems, the earthly branches Si, Chou, and the hidden You form the triple harmony of the official post, so it is called 'triple harmony meeting the nobleman,' also known as 'hidden official pattern.'
Metal and Wood are separated.
The classic says: if wood meets metal with a gap in between, it can attain the rank of a high official; if wood lacks metal, it will never be shaped into a useful tool. For example, the birth chart of Yang Bo, the Minister of Revenue, is Jisi, Gengwu, Yimao, Gengchen: the ethereal wood in Yimao is strong in its own position, and born in the month of Wu (fire), with two Gengs in between acting as tools to shape and refine the wood, thus making it into a useful tool, leading to great prestige and highest rank.
Water and Fire in Mutual Restraint (Hexagram 63)
The text says: If fire meets water and forms the Ji Ji hexagram, one may command a military force of ten thousand. For example, in the case of the birth years and times of Xinsi, Xinchou, Bingzi, and Wuzi: the day stem is Bing, sitting on the Zi branch, which is the official position. The month and hour further strengthen this official position, with multiple instances of rare combinations. Bing takes癸 as its official, and癸 takes戊 as its official, with each supporting the other in forming the official position. Bing also combines with辛, which is the wealth that nourishes the official, transforming into true water. The戊 in the Wuzi hour combines with the癸 in the Zi branch, transforming into true fire. This forms the Ji Ji hexagram, indicating great wealth and high status.
Metal and fire complement each other.
The text says: Metal cannot be shaped into objects without fire to temper it. For example, in the case of the combination of Yisi, Xinsi, Gengwu, and Xinsi: Geng sits on Wu, entering the land of fire, which is the place of official rank and prestige. It is also favorable to be born in the fourth month, gaining the energy of growth. The heavenly stem has two Xins, supporting each other, while the earthly branches have Si and Wu, forming a pure fire environment. The metal is born from fire, and the fire is strong, with both sides having vitality, thus leading to prestige. It also says: When metal meets its ghost, it should not be excessive or deficient. Because metal must have fire, and fire should be in balance with metal. If there are two fires and two metals each in a flourishing state, it is even more excellent.
On the Partial Official Star
"The term 'biased official' refers to situations where Jia meets Geng or Yi meets Xin, like two men cannot live together or two women cannot share a home, making it impossible to form a harmonious relationship, hence called 'biased official.' Since it is seven positions apart from the day master and mutually attacks, it is also called 'seven evil.' It is like a petty person who is fierce and unrestrained; without proper rules and punishments, it will definitely harm its master. Therefore, if it is controlled, it is called 'biased official,' but if it is not controlled, it is called 'seven evil.' If the day master is strong and has a seal to help transform the evil, this is what the classics say: 'when encountering evil, look for wealth.' If the body is strong and the evil is weak, having a wealth star brings good fortune; if the body is weak and the evil is strong, having wealth will invite ghosts and steal energy, leading to poverty or early death. If the food god appears to control the evil, this is what the classics say: 'when one controls it, it becomes the foundation of nobility.' If the Yang blade combines with the evil, this is what the classics say: 'evil without a blade cannot be evident' and 'when encountering evil, look for the blade.' All these methods of controlling, combining, generating, and transforming should be neither excessive nor insufficient, like using the power of the petty person to protect the gentleman, thus achieving authority, which is the destiny of great power and high status."
This kind of person is intelligent by nature. However, they should avoid having a weak day stem, multiple appearances of seven煞, or the simultaneous presence of three punishments, six harms, jiesha, and wangshen. Also, if the qiu gang and each other conflict, the dangers are endless. If there is only one seven煞, but there are two or three places that restrain it, then it is favorable to travel through the southeast direction to restrain the seven煞, so that the seven煞 loses its strength and can be manifested. Otherwise, if during the journey of fate, there is again a restraining force, then the laws will be fully used but there will be no people to govern. Even if they are fierce like tigers and wolves, they will not be able to show their abilities. Therefore, it is not advisable to only focus on restraining. The balance must be appropriate. The classic says: if there is originally a restraining force, then the seven煞 coming out becomes a blessing; if there is no original restraining force, then the seven煞 coming out becomes a disaster. This is exactly what it refers to. For example, if Jia is seen with Geng and Shen, or Yi is seen with Xin and You, and the column has strong and vital seven煞, it is suitable to travel through the southeast direction to restrain Geng and Xin, so that the seven煞 loses its vitality and can be manifested. Otherwise, if born in the寅 or卯 month, or the day stem is seated in the growth, officialdom, or prosperity position, and there are more similar companions to support, then ghosts can be transformed into officials, and seven煞 can be transformed into power. If the journey of fate leads to the native land of the official, wealth and honor will certainly be achieved. However, if the age and fate again move towards the seven煞's land, disaster will come quickly.
For example, if someone is born in the year of Jiayin (甲寅), their body is strong. If the year and month also contain Gengshen (庚申), which is a harmful influence, and there is no fire visible in the column to control the harmful influence, but the earth branches Zi and Chen form an imprint pattern, then the harmful influence can generate the imprint, and the imprint can then nourish the body. This can be considered as a favorable situation for authority and status. The harmful influence appearing in the heavenly stem of the year is different from that in the month and hour branches, because the year stem is the master of a person's life and is most important. If someone born in the year of Jiayin or Yiyin (乙) encounters the year of Geng or Xin, and is born in the months of Shen, You, or Chou, with a lot of metal in the column, and then the big year moves into the metal territory, and the flow year and the master year both appear, the danger is especially severe. However, if they are born in the months of Yin-Wu-Xu (寅午戌) or in the months where wood is strong, there is fire to control the harmful influence and the body is strong, so metal in the dead position cannot cause harm, which is favorable. The classic says: When Jia meets Geng, it leads to decline and decay, both the branches and the roots wither. When Yi meets Xin, it causes damage and depletion, both the root and the sprout are harmed. The fierce Bing fire meets Ren, and the fire becomes dark and dim. The bright Ding fire meets Gui, and the light is extinguished. Wu in the position of Jia should be cautious of blessings turning into calamities. Ji in the position of Yi, the original fortune is naturally damaged. Geng meets Bing fire, the strength is naturally weakened. Xin meets Ding fire, it is harmed by the attack. Ren meets Wu earth, the path is blocked and difficult to pass. Gui meets Ji earth, it is hard to stay and move about.
If the heavenly stem's禄 is in a favorable and thriving position, it can support the day master; especially when the Yangren appears, it naturally combines and controls the seven evils. It is also said that when the Five Phases meet the month's branch偏官, only one should be present in the earth branch; if there are more, it is not good. If the four pillars are all evils but are controlled, one will certainly hold a high official position. If there is only a slight presence of a proper official, resulting in a mixture of official and evil, one will be poor and lowly. If the evil is strong in the four pillars but the running year is pure and the body is also strong, one will hold an official position with clear dignity. It is also said that if both the body and the evil are strong without control, and the running year is again strong in evil, even if one becomes prominent, it will not last long. The "Ji Shanjian" says: if the body is strong but the evil is weak, one can borrow the evil to gain power; if the evil is heavy but the body is weak, there will be lifelong injuries. The "Ding Zhen" says: if the seven evils are assisted by wealth, the evil becomes even more dangerous. It is also said: the Yangren is like a weapon, without the evil it cannot be retained; the evil is like a military order, without the Yangren it lacks respect; when both the Yangren and the evil are present, one's fame can shake the heavens and the earth. The "Siyuan" says: the evil cannot be separated from the seal, and the seal cannot be separated from the evil; when the evil and the seal mutually generate, one will achieve fame and success.
The "Miaoxuan Assignment" says: "Slaughter is martial skill, seal is literary grace; having slaughter without seal lacks literary talent, having seal without slaughter lacks martial vigor. This is very well said—those with both slaughter and seal should be both literary and martial." The "Youxuan Assignment" says: "Seven Slaughters meeting the position of Growth, a woman can attract a noble husband." The "Luoyi Assignment" says: "Slaughter appearing in the children's palace, certainly brings rebellious sons." The "Qianlima" says: "Seven Slaughters, if controlled, can also bring many children." The "Xiangxin Assignment" says: "Partial official, seven slaughters, their power surpasses the Three Marquises; fond of wine and beauty yet loving contention, noble bearing yet supporting the weak and bullying the strong, temperament like a tiger, impetuous like wind." An old song says: "Partial official should not be generally considered凶 (evil), if controlled, it grants abundant clothing and food; if there is food god in the heavenly stem and a combination in the earthly branch, sons and daughters fill the eyes, and one receives official honors. It also says: if seven slaughters appear as the main element, it is only because the day stem is weak and suffers great damage; if the official star is mixed with calamity and slaughter enters, one's whole life is free from misfortune."
It is also said that the seven evils in the main stem originally cause worry, but once tamed, they bring no trouble; a person's life is upright with no deviation, and he will be granted the title of ten thousand households. It is also said that the biased official in the month's position is originally a harmful spirit, but if it is controlled, he can attain high official rank; even if his own prosperity comes late, his blessings will surely extend to his descendants. It is also said that the biased official in the month's branch is most feared when it is in conflict, but the harmful official and Yangren are welcomed when they meet; if the day stem is strong and prosperous, it is a sign of nobility, and proper control ensures smooth affairs. It is also said that if the body is weak and the evil is strong without a controlling force, many disasters will occur; how could he endure another official prosperous place, leading to illness and punishment that may cost his life. It is also said that the evils for Jia and Yi are the庚 and 辛 appearing in the heavenly stem, and it is favorable if there is water and wood in the month; if the fortune moves towards wood and fire, he will gain fame and fortune, but if it moves towards water, he fears fire and metal. It is also said that for Bing and Ding born in May, encountering many evils is not good, but if the fortune moves towards wood and fire, he will achieve great success; if the fortune moves towards metal and water, he will suffer misfortune, and if the子 conflicts with the午, it is the most dangerous. It is also said that for six days of Yi, if born in Si, You, and Chou, the fortune is most feared if the wealth star is present; if the fortune moves towards the metal place, it is certain that his life will be short.
It is also said that on a day of Geng, if all the Yin-Wu-Xu fire trigrams are present and the heavenly stems are revealed with earth, it is considered auspicious; if fire is very strong, then fame and reputation will be prominent, but if the destiny is weak and confined, then it is undesirable to travel towards the water direction. It is also said that for those born on six days of Bing, if there are many亥 and子, the malevolent stars will be incorporated into the seal and become harmonious; traveling east brings fame and success, but traveling west brings many difficulties. It is also said that if there is much yin water (Gui), it will be harmed by Si, and the malevolent stars need water to subdue them; although fame and fortune may be high, one might fear a short lifespan. It is also said that if a day of earth meets the卯 position and the triple harmony is complete, it is not undesirable to have gold and water present at birth; if the fire and wood are strong, fame and fortune will be prominent, but if one travels to the southwest坤 position or the northern坎 position, there will be continuous misfortunes. It is also said that if Jia and Yi meet Shen, it is good if there is an invisible seal to generate them; if water and metal are strong, an official robe will certainly be worn. It is also said that if Jia and Yi are born in the寅 month, having much metal is actually auspicious; it is not desirable to have much water again, and fire and earth are the sources of food and clothing. When all these statements are considered together, the favorable and unfavorable aspects of the partial official star become clear at a glance.
Heavenly Stem occupies the position of malevolent influence.
"The term 'Heavenly Stem Sitting on a Harmful Force' refers to days such as Jiashen and Yiyou. For example, on a Yiyou day, the hidden Yin metal within Chou is considered a harmful force. It is favorable if this occurs in spring or summer, as the Yi wood is strong and the harmful force is naturally controlled, so it is not desirable to have visible Bing or Ding fire. However, if it occurs in autumn, when grass and trees wither, and the hidden harmful force is present, it can cause harm. Whenever such days occur, the day stem should rely on strong vitality and avoid being further harmed by official or harmful forces. It is favorable to have a seal (printing) to transform the harmful force, or to have wealth and vitality, which brings good fortune. If the harmful force is strong but is restrained by a damaging official, it is also considered noble. If there is neither support nor resolution, and one encounters a strong harmful force in later life or encounters another harmful force, the person will likely have facial scars, be short and deformed, have clubbed fingers, or have tumors on the body. Their nature will be cunning, greedy, fierce, and bold, they will act recklessly without fear, and frequently break laws and regulations. Those who are heavily harmed may die young. If this pattern is suitable, it indicates a noble position in military service; however, the person is often impulsive, cunning, deceitful, and ambitious, with a tendency to plot against others and be unkind."
The nobleman in the hour position.
The "Xiji篇" says: When the seventh deadly star appears in the hour position, it is not necessarily bad; as long as the month's ruler controls it and the day stem is strong, that deadly star can instead become a powerful official. The classics say: When the hour position has a biased official, the body must be strong, and even if there is a conflict or punishment from the yang blade, one can still bear it. If there are too many controls, one should go through a period of strong deadly star; if there are many deadly stars but few controls, disaster will surely follow. Generally, when there is a biased official in the hour position, it is best if it is clearly visible in the heavenly stem, and only one occurrence is ideal. If it appears repeatedly in the year, month, and day positions, it will instead lead to hardship and toil. If the body is strong but the deadly star is controlled too much, one should prefer a period of strong deadly star or a period that forms a triple harmony with the deadly star. If there is no control at all, one must go through a period of control to achieve success. One should be cautious about a weak body; even if one receives good fortune, once the period ends, success will not last. It also says: A biased official in the hour position does not fear a conflict with the yang blade, as the person is steady in character and unbending in nature. If the deadly star has no root, it should be placed in a strong position; if it has a root, it is not suitable to have wealth, as wealth is the root of the deadly star. If there is only one deadly star but multiple controls, even if one's writings surpass Li Bai and Du Fu, one will still not achieve fame.
The book "Du Bu" says: A bad star in the hour position without a root is most valuable when the bad star is strong; a bad star in the hour position with many roots, although the bad star is strong, may not be harmonious. The "Jing Shen Fu" says: A biased official in the hour position that is controlled is a sign of a son who is exceptionally outstanding in later years. An old song says: A biased official in the hour position is favorable if the Yangren comes to clash with it; if the body is strong and the control is appropriate, then wealth and official rank will be abundant; if the official star also comes to mix in, and the body is weak with much wealth, it will lead to poverty. It also says: A single strong biased official in the hour position, if the day branch is strong, will bring great joy; if there is wealth and the seal, then wealth and official rank will be abundant, and this person is certainly a natural pillar of the state. It also says: When the hour meets the seven bad star, it is a biased official; if it is controlled and the body is strong, it is a good fate; if it is controlled too much, it is favorable to travel through a period when the bad star is strong; if it is in triple harmony and has a good position, success is not difficult. It also says: When the hour meets the seven bad star, it is said to have no son; this principle needs to be carefully examined in the world; if there is another control in the month and the hour, it can be determined that he has a son, but the son comes late and is of high status.
Seven Evils in the Year Column
The text says: If the seven deadly stars appear in the year pillar, this is a sign of noble fortune, which does not need to be restrained. Instead, it is favorable if the day master is strong, has a Yangren to harmonize with it, and the column contains wealth. If one then experiences a fortune in wealth, they will gain prosperity and clarity. The most unfavorable situation is when the day master is weak. Since the seven deadly stars symbolize small people, and they are located in the position of ancestors, they are like old ministers in the court or old servants left by the grandfather. If the day master is strong, the old servant will work diligently for the young master. But if the day master is weak, they cannot be the master of the small person, so the small person will not work diligently, but instead become something harmful. If the seven deadly stars appear in the heavenly stem of the year, the person is certainly born in poverty. However, if the four pillars and the fortune are harmonious, it indicates that a noble person will be born from a humble family. If the deadly stars are strong and the day master is weak, or if there are excessive conflicts and clashes, it will certainly lead to poverty. In severe cases, it may even involve mourning and punishment. It also says: It is not advisable to restrain the seven deadly stars that appear in the year pillar. Instead, it is favorable if the four pillars contain many deadly stars, and then they can be restrained. If the day master is strong and the amount of restraint is moderate, it is favorable to travel through a place where the deadly stars are strong. However, if the restraint is excessive, or if the deadly stars are strong while the day master is weak, or if there is a mixture of official and deadly stars, and the years and fortune are also like this, then the person will be a mediocre and unambitious individual.
If the controlling force is insufficient, and the destiny reaches a place where the body is weak and the malevolent forces are strong, calamity is certain. There is a case with the heavenly stems and earthly branches as follows: Wuxu, Gengshen, Renwu, and Guimao. The stem Wu combines with the stem Gui, the branch Mao combines with the branch Xu, and the stem Ren is seated on the branch Wu. Both wealth and officialdom are complete, so this person is of high status. An ancient song says: If the year's stem is Ren and the year's branch is Xu, wealth is strong and the body is powerful, the official position comes naturally; if the person later moves to a place where wealth is strong, he will be intelligent and loyal. Another saying goes: The seven harmful stars in the year's stem are not necessarily evil, if they are controlled or combined, they can transform into power, which is very beneficial; if the body is strong and not afraid of damage, this person is likely to enter the palace and serve in the court. Another saying says: If the year's stem harms the day's stem, the relationship is not harmonious, it is necessary to have strong control in the heavenly stem and earthly branch; when the harmful stars are strong, it is good to move to a place where the body is strong, but in early years, there is inevitably a dangerous situation.
Official and malevolent stars are mixed together.
In a person's destiny, if both officials and harmful influences are present, it is called a mixture. In such cases, only wealth and its supporting elements are considered useful. If the original chart already contains wealth, and the person's fortune progresses through wealth, they will prosper. However, the main body must be strong enough to bear the wealth. If the body is weak and there is a mixture of officials and harmful influences, the person tends to have a short life and poverty. If the body is strong and the harmful influences are controlled, it is good. If there is no control, it is acceptable if the harmful influences can be transformed into a supportive structure. A poem says: when officials and harmful influences are mixed, one must use the principles of destiny to analyze, and the details must be carefully examined. If the body is strong and timely, then the light and heavy aspects can be distinguished, and wealth and fortune will be clearly identified. For example, in the birth chart of Ren-Chen, Bing-Wu, Bing-Chen, and Gui-Si, both the body and harmful influences are strong, and the official star is transformed from Wu, with both virtue and excellence present. Another example is Ding-Hai, Ren-Zi, Ding-Wei, and Gui-Mao, where Ding is transformed from Ren, and Hai-Mao-Wei forms a wood structure, creating a clear and unique combination of water and wood. Another example is Jiawu, JiSi, Xinyou, and Jiawu: on a Xin day, the fire in Si is the official, and the two Wus contain Ding fire as harmful influences. It is favorable that they are strong and concentrated, and the Si and You form a metal structure, which can overcome the harmful influences. Although there is no control, the person's early years were supported by the western direction, making the body even stronger, thus leading to success. By examining these three birth charts, one can understand that it is not correct to immediately conclude that a mixed situation leads to a low status.
Specialofficial stipend must be controlled.
This section refers to the six days of庚 (Geng) metal when the time is巳 (Si):巳 is the place of growth for庚 metal, and it contains two Lu Spirits, 丙 (Bing) and 戊 (Wu). 戊 can generate庚, but 丙 is the seven煞 (seven calamity) of庚. If the pillar has壬 (Ren) or 癸 (Gui) to control 丙, then one should hold a military position and command troops. If the fortune moves to a calamity place, it will not be auspicious. The poem says: When庚 day meets the Si hour, it is also necessary to have control to be extraordinary; a military official in power becomes a general, but suddenly encountering the seven煞 brings disaster.
Abandoning one's destiny to follow a malevolent force
The "Dubo" says: To abandon the destiny and follow the malevolent force, one must meet the malevolent force and follow the wealth. It is forbidden for the malevolent force to go away and follow the malevolent force. This refers to the pattern of following the malevolent force: because the malevolent force is too strong, the day's ruler has nowhere to take refuge, and thus is forced to follow it; one must travel through the strong malevolent force and the wealth's territory, and there must be no single instance of a same heavenly stem or a nurturing element in the four pillars, in order for this pattern to be considered. If the fortune path supports the day's ruler and makes it strong, and it becomes a rival to the malevolent force, then following the malevolent force is not exclusive, and it becomes a disaster instead. The classic says: To follow the malevolent force, one must consider the strength and softness. This means abandoning the heavenly stem to follow the earthly branch, each following the nature of the five elements: yin stems follow the earthly branch, and those with pure malevolent force are more likely to be noble, because yin softness can easily follow others; yang stems follow the earthly branch, and those with pure malevolent force are also noble, but less so than yin stems, because yang hardness does not easily accept control. Water, fire, metal, and earth can all follow, but yang wood cannot follow, because dead wood is harmed by the axe. The "Yuanli Fu" says: A person who is both rich and noble is because the malevolent force is strong and the body is soft. When there are many ghosts, they become like none, and thus are not harmful. An ancient song says: If five yang stems are on the day and all meet the malevolent force, abandoning the destiny and following it leads to a short life; but if five yin stems meet this situation, with a weak body and strong malevolent force, it can be considered a good fortune.
Official and Harmful Stars: Their Retention and Removal in General Discussion
The *Xiji篇* says: When the official star and the seven deadly stars are mixed together, there are cases where the official star is removed and the deadly star remains, or where the deadly star is removed and the official star remains. This refers to situations where the official star and the deadly star appear together in the four pillars: either the official star is present in the month pillar and the deadly star in the hour pillar, or the deadly star is present in the month pillar and the official star in the hour pillar, or both appear in the four pillars. If something removes the official star while leaving the deadly star, it is treated as a partial official star; if something removes the deadly star while leaving the official star, it is treated as a proper official star. When determining which one is removed and which remains, one must carefully examine which of the official star or deadly star is stronger or weaker: those appearing in the heavenly stems are easier to remove, while those hidden in the earthy branches are more difficult to remove. Only when there are many and strong food god or food god stars that can remove both the official and deadly stars can they actually be removed. The food god stars on five yang days can both remove the deadly star and retain the official star; the food god stars on five yang days can only remove the official star but not retain the deadly star, and must be combined with the yangren to remove the official star and retain the deadly star. For example, for someone born on a Jia day, Jia takes Xin as the official star and Geng as the deadly star: if the official star is strong and the deadly star weak, having one Bing fire food god star that removes Geng metal, and Bing also combines with Xin, this is called removing the deadly star and retaining the official star, with mutual harmony and indicating wealth and honor; if the deadly star is strong and the official star weak, having one Ding fire food god star that removes Xin metal, and also having Yi wood yangren that combines with Geng, this is called removing the official star and retaining the deadly star, with mutual harmony and also indicating wealth and honor.
The five Yin days' food god can remove the evil influences but cannot retain the official position; the official position must be retained by the day ruler itself. The five Yin days' injurious official can both remove the official position and retain the evil influences. For example, if someone is born on a Yi day, then Geng is the official and Xin is the evil influence. If the official is strong and the evil influence is weak, and there is one Ding fire food god to overcome Xin, then Yi will combine with Geng, which is called removing the evil influence and retaining the official position, which is harmonious and indicates high status. If the evil influence is strong and the official is weak, and there is Bing fire injurious official to overcome Geng, and Bing also combines with Xin, this is called removing the official position and retaining the evil influence, which is also harmonious and indicates high status. The Yuan Li Fu says: removing the evil influence and retaining the official position should be considered as being of high status, while removing the official position and retaining the evil influence indicates holding power. It also says: when the official star and the seven evil influences are mixed, there are cases where the evil influence is combined with and thus becomes of high status, which refers to this very principle. Combining with the evil influence has two meanings: one is to remove it, and the other is to bring it in. Combining to bring in is removing the official position and retaining the evil influence, while combining to remove is removing the evil influence and retaining the official position. For example, if someone is born on six Jia days, and the heavenly stem reveals Xin as the official and Geng as the seven evil influence, this is a case of official and evil influence being mixed; however, if there is a Yi wood to combine with Geng, the seven evil influence, and a Ding fire to overcome Xin, the official, this is removing the official position and retaining the evil influence.
For example, if someone is born on six Ji days and the stem Jia appears in the column as the official star, and the stem Yi appears as the seven calamities, this is a case of official and calamity stars conflicting. However, if the stem Geng appears in the column to control the official star Jia, and also combines with the seven calamity Yi, this is called removing the official and keeping the calamity. The previous example is Yangren combining with calamity, while this example is the injurious star combining with calamity. Another example is when Jia uses Xinyou as the official star and Gengshen as the calamity star. If it is on Jiashen day, then Shen is considered the calamity, and if the column also has You as the official star, since Shen is the long life place of water, the calamity transforms into the seal star to nourish Jia wood. Although there is You metal in the column, there is also Wu fire in the middle of Wu to damage and control it. This is again removing the official and keeping the calamity. People with such a configuration are usually clever in mind, unwilling to enjoy fortune and virtue, do not trust others, and often work hard themselves. Another example is when someone is born on six Geng days, and the stem Bing appears as the calamity, and the stem Ding appears as the official star, which is again a case of official and calamity stars conflicting. If the column has the stem Ren to control the calamity Bing and also combine with the official Ding, this is called removing the calamity and keeping the official. The text says: combining with the official star does not bring honor, and combining with the seven calamities does not bring misfortune.
The concept of "combining the official star" refers to a neutral element in the pillar combining with the official star, thus removing it and resulting in lack of status; "combining the malevolent star" refers to a neutral element in the pillar combining with the seven evil stars, thus removing the official star and losing status, or removing the seven evil stars and eliminating disgrace. If the day master's heavenly stem and earthly branch combine directly with the official or evil star, then combining the official star brings status, while combining the evil star leads to disgrace. The classic text says: when the official and evil stars are balanced, the desired one is kept and the disliked one is removed. This means when the official star and seven evil stars are evenly matched in the pillar, if there is something that generates and supports or combines with them, its power is concentrated and should be retained; if there is something that damages or destroys them, its power is scattered and should be discarded. If the official star is supported and the evil star is damaged, it means removing the evil star and keeping the official star; the opposite is removing the official star and keeping the evil star. If neither the official nor the evil star is supported or combined with, yet both are damaged, then one should consider which element in the pillar has the strongest power and use it as the useful god; if this element is a good god, it should be treated as good. If both the official and evil stars are supported and combined with, yet neither is damaged, then it is a mixture of official and evil stars, which usually leads to poverty and low status.
It is also said that among the year, month, day, and hour, if there are four positions all being officials or four positions all being evils, one should take the clearly visible ones and discard the hidden ones. When an official is clearly visible, it should be retained; when an evil is clearly visible, it should be retained. One must be careful to distinguish. If both sides are evenly matched and it is difficult to determine which is heavier, then one should look at which one is supported by birth and assistance, and which one is in season, and choose the former. If something is out of season and has no support, it should be discarded. If it is unclear whether to remove or retain, it becomes a mixture. For example, if someone is born on a day of Jia with the month of July in the first ten days, the evil is in season, and even if there is Bing fire, it cannot remove it. It is also said that the patterns of removing officials and retaining evils are most suitable when the body is strong. If the body is indeed strong, even if there is no element to remove the evil, it can transform the evil into an official. For example, if Jia meets Geng, it is considered an evil. If Jia is seated on寅 and has a禄, it is strong, and the Jia wood itself has the fire energy to control the evil, without needing to see Bing or Ding. If Jia is born in the autumn season, it is necessary to have Bing or Ding to control it. If the column originally lacks such control, it will only manifest when it reaches a destiny that controls the evil. It is also said that when the heaven and earth branches combine too much, it is called 'greed for combination and forgetting the official'.
The concept of "greedy combination forgetting official stars" refers to the situation where the day master's heavenly stem combines with the hidden heavenly stems in the earthly branches, as well as with the stems and branches of the year, month, and hour, either openly or secretly. If these combinations are strong and harmonious, the day master becomes attached and reluctant to let go. Even if there is an official star present, it may be treated as wealth stealing energy or official stars harming the body, thus becoming unfavorable. As a result, the official star seems ineffective and the wealth star also fails to bring benefit, hence the term "greedy combination forgetting official stars." Generally, if凶神 are combined with other elements, the situation turns from bad to good; if吉神 are combined with other elements, the situation turns from good to bad. Whether a god is auspicious or inauspicious depends on what the overall chart favors or dislikes. The "Essence of the Art" states: On a yang day, the food god can secretly combine with the official star, but on a yin day, the food god harms the official star. From this, we can understand that if there are no official or official stars in the four pillars, the food god is favorable, but if there are official or official stars, the food god is unfavorable. It also says: greedy combination can forget both the evil stars and the official stars. For example, if a person is born on a day with six癸, and the heavenly stem reveals 己 as an evil star, but if another heavenly stem reveals 甲, which is the combination partner of 己, then 己 is combined away and no longer functions as an evil star. This is called "greedy combination forgetting the evil star."
For example, in the case of Jiashen, Gengshen, Jiazi, and Yihai: the heavenly stem Geng on the year branch harms Jia, but the stem Yi on the hour branch combines with Geng, thus removing the harmful influence. However, the month branch also has a Shen, and with two Shens, the harmful influence remains unclear and too strong, so the person only becomes an official of low rank. Another example is for people born on six days with the stem Ren, when the heavenly stem reveals Ji as the official star, but if the stem Ji is combined with the stem Ji, the official star is no longer present, which is called 'greed for combination and forgetting the official'. For instance, in the case of Xinchou, Bingshen, Jiaxu, and Jisi: the stem Jia on the day reveals the stem Xin, which is the official star, but it is combined by the stem Bing, so the person becomes wealthy but not clear. The mnemonic says: when the water stem Ren meets the yang earth stem Wu, it harbors anger and causes disputes; suddenly the water stem Gui comes to help, combining with the harmful influence, thus the harmful influence no longer shows its power—this is an example of 'greed for combination and forgetting the harmful influence'. It also says: when the water stem Ren meets the earth stem Ji, it originally intended to use Ji as the official star, but suddenly the yang wood stem Ji provokes disputes, leading to the real noble influence being combined away, resulting in countless hardships—this is an example of 'greed for combination and forgetting the official'.

Ren rides a dragon's back
The *Xiji篇* says: When a yang water day is repeated and meets the position of Chen, it is called the land of JIN riding on the dragon's back. This pattern is based on the day being JIN (Ren) sitting on Chen: JIN uses Ding as its wealth and Ji as its official, and JIN borrows the branch Chen to secretly clash with Xu's Ding and Wu, thus obtaining wealth and official status. The column must have many Chens to be able to clash, and if there is also a Yin to combine with the wealth and official, it is even better; it is not suitable for wealth and official to be clearly revealed. It is favorable to run a path of strong self and the path of injury and food; it is unfavorable to run the southern land of wealth and official. If there are Ding, Si, Wu, or Xu in the column, it can only be considered as wealth and official. If the day is Yin and the column has many Chens, it also takes this pattern: JIN uses Ji as its food, Ji combines with Ji to become JIN's official, and Ji can produce Ding to become JIN's wealth; Chen can clash with Xu, Yin also comes to combine with it, so it becomes noble. If the day is Renchen and the year, month, and hour are all Yin and Wu forming a fire pattern, the wealth is in a strong and flourishing position, and the wealth is abundant but not pure, so it is just a wealthy fate. It also says: For Renchen day, taking many Chens to secretly clash with Xu's fire, earth, and metal as the three marvels of wealth, official, and seal; if three Chens are combined with one Yin, the noble qi of clash and combination has strength. If the day is Renchen and the year, month, and hour are all Yin, the strength is weak, and it can only use the Ji wood in Yin as the food to produce wealth, so it is a wealthy fate.
The column should ideally contain the Earthly Branches of Chou and Wei as signs of prestige, but it is most feared to see Ji as official, Wu as malevolent, Yi as injurious, and Ding as harmonious, for such combinations would prevent the formation of a proper pattern. Even if there are many Chens, they should be reduced in number. It is also undesirable to encounter the Northern direction of Hai and Zi in one's destiny. There is another saying: the day of Renchen is called the Qigang day, which favors a strong body and is afraid of encountering wealth and officialdom; the fortune or misfortune should be determined by one's destiny. If the column contains both Shen and Zi, it should be considered according to the Runxia pattern; at this time, if one's destiny involves the years of Wu and Ji, then Chen and Xu will clash, and if both the year and destiny arrive together, good fortune may turn into misfortune, which is called "riding the dragon and encountering a clash," and thus the pattern is not formed. There is a case of Jichou, Wuchen, Renchen, and Gengzi: the person passed the imperial examination in the year of Jiazi and died in the month of Yimao in the year of Wuchen, because the official Ji and malevolent Wu were too strong, and they overcame Ren, resulting in misfortune. A poem says: a person born on the day of Renchen is called riding the dragon, and the official star arises from the opposite direction. If there are many Chens in the four pillars, then official rank and honor will be achieved; if there are many Yins, then one will only become a wealthy man. Another saying is: if there is a lot of water and the character Chen appears, then Ren riding the dragon's back is a great honor; if both Yin and Chen appear in the column, then wealth and honor will be achieved and one will stand in the court. Another saying is: Ren riding the dragon's back brings great joy, and if there are also Yins, it will bring even greater success; the most feared thing is the official star breaking the pattern, which will bring disaster and injury, even shortening one's life.
Zi is far from Si, which is the official position.
The *Xiji篇* says: On a day of Jiazi, if the time is also Jiazi, it is feared that the presence of Geng, Xin, Shen, You, Chou, and Wu will be unfavorable. This pattern pairs the day of Jiazi with the time of Jiazi: Jia takes Xin as its official star. The two Zi in the time can remotely combine with the Wu in Si. Wu originally wants to combine with the癸 in the Zi, but it fears being restrained by the Jia wood in the Zi, so it cannot directly combine. Wu and Bing share the same residence in Si. Bing and Wu are like father and son; when Wu moves, Bing also moves. Bing then combines with the Xin metal in You, which in turn restrains Jia wood. Thus, Jia day obtains its official star, and Wu is able to combine with the癸. This is called the triple harmony of Si, You, and Chou forming the official star pattern. The year and month most fear the presence of Wu to冲 the Zi or Chou to绊 the Zi, which would prevent the remote combination. It also says: This pattern uses the癸 water in the two Zi to remotely combine with the Wu earth in Si as Jia's wealth. Bing and Wu share the same residence in Si. Bing is Jia's official star, and Wu is Bing's official star. When Wu moves, Bing also moves. Bing sees Wu in the Zi greedily combining with the癸 wife star, which transforms into a seal, and Bing then combines with the Xin metal to serve as Jia's official star. This is like a person having a son to continue the family business and inherit the family name, thus achieving the dignity of a father.
This pattern favors birth in the months of壬,癸,亥,子 where the official star is strong, or in卯,寅 where the self is strong. If the person travels through a region where the official star is strong, they will certainly achieve academic success, enjoy wealth, gain authority, and become rich. It is disliked to see the characters 庚, 辛, 丙 clearly appearing, or 申, 酉, 巳 coming to break the pattern. If there is a transformation or control, it will not cause harm. If there is 丑 to tie up or 午 to clash, the score will be reduced, and the same applies to the years and travels. If born in 酉 month or 丑 month, it is only considered as the official pattern, taking the virtual appearance of 庚, which also indicates wealth and honor, depending on the month's strength; or one can use the harmful star to generate the official star. If this pattern is truly formed, it is especially feared to travel through the southern direction. For example, the birth chart of Fan Jizhu, the Minister of the Ministry of Personnel, is Gengzi, Jimao, Jiazi, Jiazi, which is exactly this pattern. The classic says: On the day of Jiazi, when the official star meets the禄, the person will certainly be rich and prosperous throughout their life. The poem says: On the day of Jiazi, if the time is also Jiazi, the official star and honor will be clearly present. If there is 丑 to tie up or 子 to clash, the official star and harmful star will clearly appear, leading to bad fortune and delayed official success. It also says: When 子 remotely combines with 巳, it needs careful consideration. For Jiazi, another Jiazi is needed. The癸 water invites the戊 earth from 巳, and the丙 fire combines with 辛 metal in 酉. In secret, it prefers the triple harmony of 申, 酉, Triple Harmony and the six harmony of Six Harmony. On the surface, it fears 庚 and 辛 to invade the two 癸. If there is no 丑 or 午, it can be considered a high pattern, achieving academic success, and attending the Qionglin banquet.
Chou remotely benefits Si's official position.
The *Xiji篇* says: On days of Xinchou and Guichou, the presence of many Chou earths is not favorable for official stars; if the year or hour is in the Zi or Si palace, it results in empty fame and empty profit. This pattern only applies to the days of Xinchou and Guichou. On Xinchou day, Jia is the official star, and on Guichou day, Wu is the official star. Both Jia and Wu have their strength in Si, and only Chou can break Si. If there are many Chou in the pillar, the strength of Jia and Wu in Si is broken, allowing Xinchou and Guichou to remotely connect and obtain the official star. It is unfavorable to see Zi, which ties Chou, or Wei, which conflicts with Chou, and also unfavorable to have Si filled in, otherwise it is only empty fame and empty profit. The same principle applies to the years and months. Xinchou day is favorable if born in autumn, and Guichou day is favorable if born in winter. The pillar should have much metal and water to match this pattern. If there is also Shen or You, and one of them connects with Si, preventing the loss of noble status, it is even better. On Xinchou day, the absence of Bing, Ding, Si, and Wu makes it pure; on Guichou day, the absence of Wu, Ji, Si, and Wu makes it pure. If there is no conflict or obstruction, the person is sincere and virtuous, achieving both wealth and status. If there is slight damage, it still indicates wealth and sufficiency.
If born in the month of Chen, Xu, Chou, or Wei, one should use the mixed qi method. If born in the hours of Mao, Chen, Shen, You, or Hai, it should not be considered in this category. For example, if a person with the day stem Xin is born in the months of Bingyin, Bingwu, or Bingxu, then it should be considered only in terms of official stars. If born in the month of Jiayin, since wood generates fire, one should use wealth and official stars. If a person with the day stem Gui has too much earth, it should be considered in terms of official stars or harmful stars. If born at the hour of Guihai, it should be considered in terms of mutual support for official stars. If born in a month of strong metal, it should be considered in terms of the official star. If born in a month of strong fire, it should be considered in terms of wealth. If born in the month of Jiayin, even with a damaging official, it is not a problem. It is suitable to travel through a period of strong official stars and strong self, which often leads to high status. This category is generally similar to the flying heavenly禄 and horse of Xinhai and Guihai. The classic says: For days of Xin and Gui, the official star is combined with the禄, leading to a life of wealth and abundance. A poem says: For days of Xin and Gui, encountering Chou often, it is called the remote Si combination of official stars. Do not say that they do not like strong official stars, who would believe that the arrival of official stars brings success. Another poem says: For the day stems of Xin and Gui, the presence of Chou can break Si, and Si contains the official star. Seeing many Chous is good, but the presence of Zi in the middle is not advisable. Another poem says: For days of Xin and Gui without official stars, relying on many Chous to combine remotely, the禄 of Ji and Wu in Si comes to support. The branches prefer to see You and Shen to combine, and if the pattern is formed, wealth and status will be abundant. Xin should avoid丙,丁, and Si, Wu. Gui should avoid Wu, Ji, and the horse (Wu), the snake (Si), and theOwl Spirit. The presence of Zi can hinder Chou, leading to a lazy mind. If the pattern is light, then the fortune will be reduced.
Conjunction, Mutual Assistance, Favorable Days, and Auspicious Horses
For example, if someone is born on a Jia day and the column does not contain You, Xin, or Chou, but has multiple Mao to conflict with You, and Si, You, and Chou form the official star for Jia day, then it is favorable to have Ren and Gui to nourish and assist, and it is unfavorable to have You and Xin to fill the vacancy. If there is only one Mao, and it is moved by a conflict or a combination, it is also a good fate. For someone born on a Yi day, if the column does not contain Shen or Geng, but has Yin to conflict with Shen, or Zi and Chen to combine and support Shen, or Si to conflict with Shen, these can form the official star for Yi day. It is favorable to have Ren and Gui to nourish and assist, and it is unfavorable to have Shen and Geng to fill the vacancy. For someone born on a Wu day, if the column does not contain Mao or Yi, but has You to conflict with Mao, or Hai and Wei to combine and produce Mao, then Wu gains an official star. It is favorable to have Ren and Gui as wealth and Bing and Ding as official seal, and it is unfavorable to have Mao or Yi. For someone born on a Ji day, if the column does not contain Yin or Jia, but has Shen to conflict with Yin, or Wu and Xu to combine and produce Yin, then an official star is formed in secret. It is favorable to have wealth and official seal, and it is unfavorable to have Yin or Jia. For the days of Bing and Ding, it is the reverse conflict of the official and horse pattern. For the days of Geng, Xin, Ren, and Gui, it is the flying heavenly official and horse pattern. The same logic applies to the other days. In all these cases, the conflict and combination should avoid the official star being clearly visible or damaged. The best situation is when the official star is present in the month and is strong. If the conflicting god is combined and not restricted, it will certainly lead to a clear and noble official position, reaching the rank of general, prime minister, marquis, or duke. If any element is missing, the score will be reduced. If the conflicting god is broken, it can only lead to a close relationship with the noble and have enough food and clothing. In severe cases, it will result in poverty. The same principles apply to the years and the ten years of destiny.
The Wubao Jing says: Yi takes Geng and Shen as its husband (official star). If these are not present in the pillar, but there are Zi and Chen, they can combine with the Geng in Shen to serve as Yi's official star. With this, there is no need for the寅 to be in conflict; having寅 is even better. If Zi and Chen are not present, then the method of conflict is used to bring them out. The ten days of Jiayin, Yimao, Bingwu, Dingwei, Wuwu, Jiwei, Gengshen, Xinyou, Renzi, and Guihai are themselves strong, and the most important is to conflict with their禄. The days of Renchen, Renxu, Wuchen, and Jichou have a slower effect in conflicting with their禄. Other dry and branch combinations do not use this method. For example, the birth chart of the Ming Shenzong, Guihai, Xinyou, Guihai, Xinyou: the main Guihai is strong, and it conflicts with the巳 to bring out the Bing and Wu in the巳 as Gui's禄. It also has two You to combine with, which is most excellent.
