The year's ruler is the horse.
Charting guides: BaZi Chart Calculator
The term "岁带正马" refers to a situation where the person's year pillar carries their own official wealth. For example, if someone born on a Jia day has their year pillar sitting on Wu and the year stem shows Ji, or if someone born on a Yi day has their year pillar sitting on Si and the year stem shows Wu, then the year pillar carries their official wealth, and the likes and dislikes are the same as having official wealth in the month pillar. If the year pillar carries official wealth and the person is born in the months of Chen, Xu, Chou, or Wei, or in the summer months, the Ji earth is prosperous and strong, not subject to punishment or clash, and not taken away by others. The day stem is also strong, which indicates inheriting a wealthy family legacy. However, if the person is born in the months of Yin or Mao, and the four pillars also carry a share of the same element, or if the person's fortune leads to a place of official wealth and theft, then poverty is certain.
At the time, the proper horse is present.
The phrase "when the time branch carries the proper horse" refers to a situation where the day stem, for example, Jia wood, is born in the hour of Si or Wu. In such cases, the hour branch contains the person's wealth star. As long as there are no conflicts, clashes, destruction, or theft, it indicates that the person will marry a beautiful wife, receive wealth from outside, have sons who achieve honor and prestige, and have abundant family wealth. This wealth is not inherited from the parents, but earned through one's own efforts, attracted through one's own actions. Therefore, it is suitable to be frugal rather than extravagant.
Wealth is prosperous and generates official status.
The "Ji Shan Chapter" says: Being both rich and noble is certainly due to strong wealth that can generate official status. Wealth inherently has the ability to generate official status; if wealth is taken as the useful god, then official stars should not appear clearly. Once official stars appear, it becomes the wealth and official status pattern. If there are injurious stars or food stars in the four pillars, even if wealth is abundant, it cannot generate official status. For example, if the person is born with earth as the main element, then亥 and子 water and壬 and癸 water are considered wealth, and寅 and卯 wood and甲 and乙 wood are considered official stars. If the person is born in the month ofRenzi orGuihai, and the four pillars do not contain寅卯 or甲乙, this is called "wealth being strong and generating official status." Such a birth chart often leads to wealth first and then nobility, or through contributing grain to gain official status, or serving as a royal consort's attendant. If the official star in the month is not damaged or restrained, it also indicates success in the imperial examination. However, if the heavenly stem is revealed with庚 or辛 metal, which restrains wood, the wealth cannot generate official status, and thus this pattern is not applied.
Heavenly Stem occupies the position of wealth.
For example, if someone is born on a Dingchou or Gengchen day in spring, the wood of Jia and Yi is considered wealth. It is favorable to have Wu and Ji earth as the official seal to nourish the self, and favorable to have Ren and Gui water as the food and destruction to generate wealth. It is unfavorable to have Geng and Xin metal to steal the wealth. Especially, if the stream year also meets the official or evil star, it is particularly bad. Because in spring, metal is naturally weak and cannot support wealth, thus failing to bring good fortune. For those born on Jiawu or Yiwei days in summer, Ji earth is considered wealth; for those born on Jiachen day in summer, Wu earth is considered wealth; for those born on Bingxu or Dingchou days in autumn, Xin metal is considered wealth: the favorable and unfavorable factors are the same as before. Only the days of Renwu and Guisi are considered "Lù Mǎ Tóng Xiāng" (wealth and horse in the same native land), with wealth and official both hidden in the day branch. Therefore, they are not discussed solely in terms of wealth.
Discussing the concept of偏财 (biased wealth)
What is called "biased wealth"? It refers to cases where Jia wood meets Wu earth, or Yi wood meets Ji earth, and so on. This is wealth that I can overcome, but with the same yin and yang attributes. It is not wealth brought by a wife, but wealth shared by many. It is most忌 to be divided or taken away by siblings or other similar competing forces. If the four pillars also lack the protective influence of official stars, then misfortunes will arise. The classics say: biased wealth prefers to be visible, and does not fear being hidden. It fears being divided or taken away, and also fears falling into Kongwang. If either of these two situations occurs, one cannot hold an official position and will lose the wealth. If the wealth is weak, one must wait until the fortune reaches a prosperous place for wealth to flourish. If the wealth is originally strong, then everything is favorable, but one must fear that the day's main element lacks strength to bear such wealth.
A person with a partial wealth pattern is generous and not stingy with money, yet is emotional in dealing with others and often has cunning intentions. If wealth is well positioned, not only will the source of wealth be abundant, but it will also strengthen the official star, as abundant wealth naturally generates official power. When the fortune reaches a prosperous and strong position, both happiness and official rank will arrive together. Upon encountering an official position, fortune will be realized. If the original four pillars already contain an official star, it is considered a good fortune. However, if there are many siblings (same zodiac) appearing, even when reaching an official position, the realization of fortune will be uncertain. Partial wealth is most significant when it is present in the month's stem, but it is not desirable to have it in all four pillars. If the partial wealth in the year is strong and connected with the month's stem and the overall energy of the four pillars, it indicates receiving abundant property from uncles, cousins, or ancestors, or being supported by the maternal relatives' property.
The main principle is: if the day's stem is strong, the wealth star is vigorous, and the fortune moves towards a place where wealth is strong, then prosperity can be achieved. If there are punishments, conflicts, destruction, or harm, or if the same kind of elements or thieves take away the wealth, or if the wealth star is too weak and the day's stem is too weak, or if there is too much wealth that turns to generate harmful elements, these are signs of losing ancestral property and a life of hard work. If the month's stem contains wealth, it indicates wealth and prosperity in youth; however, if the birth time does not support the wealth star, or if there are thieves or destroyers of wealth, and the fortune later falls into a bad place, then the ancestral property will be completely lost in old age, leading to a life of poverty, becoming a fate of being rich at first and then poor.
If the year and month originally lack wealth, but the day and hour carry wealth, and there are no劫财 or败财, nor any clash or control, then it indicates that one will start from nothing and achieve great success in middle and old age. If the four pillars have excessive wealth but a weak body, and in youth the fortune flows directly into weak and confined areas, then there will be frequent misfortunes and everything goes against one's wishes; but when middle age comes, if the fortune suddenly reaches the land of印绶 and parents, or if the triple harmony can support me, then sudden success will come. If in youth one rides on strong energy, but in old age falls out of the pattern, one will not only be in a desperate situation, but also face many troubles and disputes—because wealth can benefit oneself, but also bring criticism. If the four pillars mutually generate and also carry a noble pattern, without falling into kongwang, and further meet strong fortune and triple harmony of wealth, then it is a noble destiny; as for the depth of blessings and wealth, it depends on the weight of the pattern.
It is also said that if a person's destiny includes two sources of wealth, even if their body is weak, it is not a problem. If the original destiny uses the official wealth as the main element, and the body is strong, then wealth will be obtained. If the original destiny uses the biased wealth as the main element, and the body is strong, then wealth may be lost. It is also said that the preferences and aversions of biased wealth and official wealth are generally the same, except that there is a slight difference in whether they like the official star. Having official wealth is not as good as having biased wealth, for biased wealth is heavier and more substantial, thus bringing greater fortune. Biased wealth is most afraid of劫财 (robbery wealth) and 比肩 (similar elements), which can cause loss of wealth. If these appear in the year pillar, the harm is the greatest; if they appear in the month pillar, the harm is slightly less. These robbery elements are also known as 'Guchen' and 'Zhu Ma', which indicate the possibility of harming the wife and children, causing financial loss and poverty. Even if the original destiny has these忌 (taboos), when the fortune moves to a place where wealth is strong, it can still bring good fortune. However, if it moves again to a place with similar elements or robbery elements, there may be decline and even death, or legal troubles and financial loss. The "Tongming Fu" says: If biased wealth appears in the month pillar and there is no robbery wealth, one can become the richest person in the world. The "Xiangxin Fu" says: Those who have biased wealth revealed in their destiny are light-hearted about wealth and righteousness, enjoy being flattered, like to talk about others, and are fond of drinking and indulging in pleasures, which is the reason for this. The "Jing Shen Fu" says: Those with biased wealth and a strong body are people who travel around seeking profit, like merchants. The "Ao Zhi" says: Biased wealth can prolong life. The "Qian Li Ma" says: Those whose destiny shows biased wealth tend to love concubines more than their official wife.
An old song says:偏财 originally represents shared wealth, but it is most忌 to have brothers or rivals in the heavenly stems and earthly branches; if the day's main element is strong and the wealth is also abundant, it is all good fortune, and if there is also an official star protecting the wealth, it is even better. Another song says: for someone with strong main element and偏财, there should be an official star; when the fortune enters the wealth area, success and fame will come quickly; but if brothers or sisters take away the wealth, then achievements will not be realized and misfortunes will follow. Another song says: the偏财 position often originates from another place, the person is generous and charming with a strong personality; they often establish several businesses elsewhere, pursuing fame and profit, and are busy all the time at home.
When the Wealthy Star is in the Hour Position
The "Xiji篇" says: When the time stem carries a biased wealth, it is most feared to meet brothers and rivals. For example, if the day stem is Jia wood and the time stem is Wuchen or Jiaxu with Wu hidden in Xux, this is such a case. This pattern prefers to see Xin metal as the official position to protect wealth and Ren or Kui water to assist and nourish. It fears Geng metal as the seven harmful stars and Yi wood as the劫财 (rival wealth). It is also not advisable to see another Wu or Ji in the four pillars. If the day stem is too strong, traveling through the Eastern direction of Yin and Mao will result in loss of wealth. Other stems should be considered in the same way. This pattern is similar to the "time stem biased official" pattern; only one is acceptable, not multiple. It is best if the heavenly stem is revealed, and if not, it is secondary if hidden in the earthly branches. If the four pillars have officials and印绶 (supporting elements) to assist and the day stem is strong and healthy, it is considered a good fate. It is most feared if the year or month conflicts and breaks the pattern, or if there are many brothers and rivals, which will make the fortune incomplete. An ancient poem says: The time stem biased wealth most fears being conflicted, and brothers' rivals are all to be feared. It is preferred to travel through the place of body strength and official position, and no other stems or branches should reveal wealth, which is considered noble.
Abandoning one's destiny to follow wealth
The "Dubu" says: To abandon the destiny and follow the wealth, the earthly branches must form a wealth pattern. If the day stem still has a little root qi to rely on, the destiny will be harmed, which is certain. For example, if the丁 fire is born in the酉 month, and there are many 庚 and 辛 gold in the four pillars, the day stem has no life qi at all, so it must abandon itself and follow the wealth trend. When the fortune reaches the northern direction where wealth and official positions are strong, it is considered to be in the right pattern. Going to the southern direction will bring disaster. An ancient song says: If the day stem has no qi and the whole chart is full of wealth, abandoning oneself to follow the wealth is the beginning of happiness. When the fortune reaches the place where wealth and official positions are strong, it will bring prosperity and wealth. If instead, one meets the roots that support the day stem, it will instead bring disaster.
The sun is seated on the heavenly wealth.
For example, if the earth element戊 or己 overcomes water, it is considered wealth. If the water's storage is in the branch辰, and the day branch is exactly this wealth storage, it is called "day sitting on heavenly wealth." An ancient rhyme says: when the heavenly stem of the year overcomes the earthly branch below, it is called heavenly wealth; when it reaches the storage place of the wealth, the gate of the storage is opened. Once the wealth is stored, there will be plenty of grain, cloth, and silk, and the family becomes wealthy with piles of gold and silver. For example, Bi Zhuanwang's birth chart,Jisi, Guiyou, Gengchen, Jiashen, is exactly this pattern.
Discussion on the Combination of Favorable and Unfavorable Wealth in Divination
In the Essential Records of the Five Phases, there is a concept called "generated wealth." For example, if a person with Jia or Yi wood sees Wu or Ji earth, these earths are seated on Shen, Zi, and Chen, which are the positions of growth, prosperity, and storage respectively. When the heavenly stem and earthly branch are in such combinations as Wu Shen, Wu Chen, or Wu Zi, they form a self-contained and harmonious relationship. If a person's destiny enters a noble pattern, they will not only be noble but also very wealthy, and often hold positions responsible for managing money and grain. If they do not enter a noble pattern and lack the assistance of auspicious deities, they may only be wealthy commoners. If the wealth is self-generated and self-prosperous, such as a Jia wood person seeing Wu Wu or Ji Hai, they will be wealthy. Other cases can be similarly inferred. There is also "wealth through generation and harmony." For example, a Jia wood person seeing Wu or Kui earth, or a Ji earth person seeing Kui or Wu earth, or a Geng metal person seeing Jia or Ji wood, the combination of Wu and Kui generates wealth, indicating the ability to achieve wealth and honor. There is also "parent and child wealth." For example, if a person with a wood destiny sees a fire month and a soil day or hour, wood generates fire, and fire generates soil, representing parent and child generation, indicating that the person will often encounter good fortune throughout their life.
There is also the 'Class of Wealth Evil Spirit': those with the Fire triad (Yin-Wu-Xu) who see Yi and Geng, those with the Metal triad (Si-You-Chou) who see Ding and Ren, those with the Water triad (Shen-Zi-Chen) who see Wu and Gui, and those with the Wood triad (Hai-Mao-Wei) who see Jia and Ji, also known as the 'Subtle Evil Spirit', indicating success in both reputation and wealth. There is also the 'Wealth and Prosperity Evil Spirit': those with the Fire triad (Yin-Wu-Xu) who see Xin-Chou, those with the Metal triad (Si-You-Chou) who see Yi-Wei, those with the Water triad (Shen-Zi-Chen) who see Bing-Xu, and those with the Wood triad (Hai-Mao-Wei) who see Wu-Chen. These are spirits that bring together wife and wealth; encountering them indicates a prosperous household, the possibility of a beautiful wife and unexpected wealth; however, one should be cautious of the wife possibly poisoning the husband. There is also the 'Reputation and Wealth', which occurs when the food spirit is seen in the repository: for example, a person with the Wuzi sound element (belonging to fire) who sees Gengxu, the Wu earth uses Geng gold as the food spirit, the fire repository is in Xu, fire overcomes gold and gold is considered wealth. When such a combination is present, the person enjoys a lifetime of salary. There is also the 'Longevity Wealth', for example, Jia wood uses Wu and Ji earth as wealth and sees Wushen, and the癸 water uses Bing and Ding fire as wealth and sees Bingyin. Wealth is seated on the longevity, and such people often gain unexpected wealth.
It is also said that most diviners only regard cases such as Jia wood meeting Wu earth or Yi wood meeting Ji earth as wealth, but they do not know that cases such as Jia combining with Ji and meeting Bing or Xin, or Bing combining with Xin and meeting Wu or Gui, are the true sources of wealth. If these occur in a position that is prosperous and strong, they indicate a wealthy and flourishing family. There is another method: using the Nayin sound element to compare with the true Five Phases generated by the heavenly stem. For example, a person born in the Yihai year, whose Nayin sound element is fire, if in the month, day, or hour there is a Geng, then the true Five Phases generated by Yi and Geng is metal. Metal is considered wealth in relation to fire, which is called 'heavenly wealth,' indicating a life of abundance and ease. If the Nayin sound element instead controls or restrains the heavenly stem, such as in the Dingmao year whose Nayin sound element is fire, which can control the metal generated by Yi and Geng, this is called 'ghost wealth,' indicating a person who can gain wealth from the world, or who may rise to prominence through being a cunning official. The same principle applies to Wuyin and Wushen, as well as Yiyou and Yimao. If these are further combined with the four earthy branches, Chen, Xu, Chou, and Wei, it indicates a person who may make a living through skills and can also gain substantial wealth from the world.
On the Official (印绶)
The term "印绶" refers to the name of the element in the Five Phases that generates me. For example, if Jia or Yi wood is born in the month of Hai or Zi, or if Bing or Ding fire is born in the month of Yin or Mao, then the "印" is the source of my energy, the Life Qi, my parents, and it protects my official star so that it is not harmed or overcome. It is like a person being born with something to assist and nourish them, enjoying ready-made blessings, which is indeed wonderful. People with this pattern are intelligent, wise, kind and generous in nature, speak kindly, speak a bit slowly, have a full and solid appearance, can eat and drink well, and rarely suffer from illness or encounter misfortune. They are only somewhat stingy with money. Those who hold this pattern often hold official positions, receive imperial edicts, and whether they hold a civil or military post, they manage the seal. This pattern favors the presence of the official star, because the official star can generate the "印". The classic texts say: "The印 depends on the official star to be generated." They also say: "If there is an official star but no印, then it is not a true official star; if there is both an official star and an印, then it brings about great blessings," which refers to this.
The印绶 should avoid the财星, because the财星 can destroy the印绶. The classic texts say: when the印绶 is born in the month or year or time position, it should avoid seeing the财星; once the person enters the财 position in their destiny, they should retreat and give way, which refers exactly to this. The same applies to the flow year and the big destiny. If the印绶 is not damaged, it can usually receive the blessings of the parents, have wealth readily available, and enjoy wealth and honor. Comparing various destinies, those with more印绶 are superior; the印绶 in the month is most important, followed by the day and time; although the印 in the year stem is also significant, it must be supported by the禄 position in the month, day, or time to be useful. If only the印 is revealed in the year position, but there is none in the month, day, or time, it is not helpful. Originally, having the official star in the four pillars is best; if the印绶 is scarce and the official ghost is abundant, or if it has already entered another pattern, one should not focus solely on the印绶. If the印绶 also meets patterns such as拱禄, 专禄, 归禄, 鼠贵, 夹贵, or 时贵, it is especially remarkable, but it may result in few or no children; people with many印绶 are often refined and lonely.
All cases of the official seal pattern favor the presence of seven poisons, because seven poisons can generate the official seal; however, seven poisons should not be too numerous, as too many will harm the body. If the original chart does not contain seven poisons, encountering them in the big years will bring fortune; if the original chart already has seven poisons, then encountering the wealth star or the official seal reaching its dead or extinct state, or approaching the storage, will indicate misfortune. The classic texts say: although seven poisons can generate the official seal, they fear encountering the wealth land, as wealth will destroy the official seal and assist the ghost seven poisons, which will certainly bring misfortune. Other patterns all favor the day's main element being strong, but the official seal pattern favors the day's main element being slightly weak and receiving nourishment. If the original chart already has wealth to harm the official seal, encountering the same element or the day's main element becoming strong in the big years can bring fortune; if the original chart does not have wealth to harm the official seal, then it is not suitable to encounter the same element again. If there is neither official nor seven poison, nor wealth star, and the big years go towards strengthening the day's main element, then the person's life will be ordinary.
The "Yuan Yuan Lun" discusses the concept of印绶, saying: For example, if the day stem is Jia wood and the birth month is Zi month, it is considered the 正印 (true nourishing element). If the birth month is Hai month, it is considered 偏印 (biased nourishing element). It is most favorable to encounter 「Heavenly Virtue」 and 「Monthly Virtue」. In Zi month, the Heavenly Virtue is at the position of Xun, and the Monthly Virtue is Ren. In Hai month, the Heavenly Virtue is at the position of Yi, and the Monthly Virtue is Jia. At the hour position, seeing You and Xin (the 正官, true official) is excellent. If instead, one sees Shen and Geng (the 七煞, seven evils), then there must be 比肩 or 劫财 to assist the body and to harmonize with the 七煞, which would make the fortune noble. This pattern fears the presence of Wu and Ji (wealth elements) which would damage the 印. It also dislikes Bing and Ding (food and injury elements) which would generate wealth and thus destroy the 印. For the day stem of Yi wood born in Hai or Zi month, the preferences and aversions are the same as for Jia wood. For the day stem of Bing fire, if born in Mao month, it is considered the 正印, with Heavenly Virtue at the position of Kun and Monthly Virtue at Jia. If born in Yin month, it is considered 偏印, with Heavenly Virtue at Ding and Monthly Virtue at Bing. It is favorable to see Zi and Gui (the 正官, true official). If instead, one sees Ren and Hai (the 七煞, seven evils), then there must be 比肩 or 劫财 to assist the body and harmonize with the 七煞. This pattern fears the presence of Shen, Geng, You, and Xin (wealth elements) which would damage the 印. It also dislikes Wu and Ji (food and injury elements) which would generate wealth and thus destroy the 印. For the day stem of Ding fire born in Yin or Mao month, the preferences and aversions are the same as for Bing fire.
The day master of Wu Earth is born in the month of Wu, which is the true official (positive official), Heavenly Virtue is in Hai, and Monthly Virtue is in Bing. If born in the month of Si, it is the biased official (negative official), Heavenly Virtue is in Xin, and Monthly Virtue is in Geng. It is favorable to meet Mao and Yi, which is the true official. Yin and Ji are seven evils, and when evils appear, there should be a helper such as a same zhi or a thief to support and harmonize with the evils. It is unfavorable to meet Ren and Gui, which are wealth that destroy the official. It is also unfavorable to meet Shen and Geng or Xin, which are food and injury that generate wealth and destroy the official. Ji Earth born in the months of Si and Wu has the same favorable and unfavorable aspects as Wu. The day master of Geng Metal is born in the month of Wu, which is the true official, Heavenly Virtue is in Gān position, and Monthly Virtue is in Bing. If born in the month of Si, it is the biased official, Heavenly Virtue is in Xin, and Monthly Virtue is in Geng. It is favorable to meet the official star Ding Fire in Wu, and the seven evils Ji Fire in Si. When evils appear, there should still be a helper such as a same zhi or a thief to support and harmonize with the evils. It is unfavorable to meet the strong wealth of Ji and Yi, which destroy the official. It is also unfavorable to meet the injurious and food stars of Ren and Gui, and the wealth in Wu that destroy the official. Xin Metal born in the months of Si and Wu has the same favorable and unfavorable aspects as Geng. The day master of Ren Water is born in the month of You, which is the true official, Heavenly Virtue is in Yin, and Monthly Virtue is in Geng. If born in the month of Shen, it is the biased official, Heavenly Virtue is in Gui, and Monthly Virtue is in Ren. It is favorable to meet the official star in Si or Wu, or the seven evils Ji. When evils appear, there should still be a helper such as a same zhi or a thief to support and harmonize with the evils. It is unfavorable to meet the strong wealth of Bing and Ding, which destroy the official. It is also unfavorable to meet the injurious and food stars of Ji and Yi, and the wealth in Wu that destroy the official. Gui Water born in the months of Shen and You has the same favorable and unfavorable aspects as Ren.
The classics say that those who do not involve themselves in legal troubles or punishments have their official seal and Heavenly Virtue in the same palace. It is also said that those who eat vegetarian food and have a kind heart find their official seal particularly favorable when it meets Heavenly Virtue. For example, the birth chart of Meng Chong, an official of the Board of Inspection, is Yihai, Dinghai, Yichou, and Bingxu, which shows the official seal and Heavenly Virtue in the same palace. Another case is Jiayin, Bingyin, Bingyin, and Dingyou, where Heavenly Virtue is in Ding and Monthly Virtue in Bing, while the official seal is in Yin. Another case is Gengshen, Gengchen, Gengzi, and Renwu, where Heavenly Virtue and Monthly Virtue are both in Ren, and the official seal is in Chen. This pattern requires the official star to be strong and flourishing, and it is most unfavorable if it is in a dead or exhausted state. For example, if the wood of Yi is supported by Hai or Zi, and gold comes to complete its path of benevolence and righteousness, then the generation and nourishment between them is harmonious. However, if the original nature of the official star meets earth, the pattern becomes mixed. If one travels through the Northwest, both official and governmental positions bring good fortune. But if the hour is in Mao, Chen, or Si, or if one travels through these directions, wealth and official star fall into dead or exhausted states. If in the coming year wealth comes to harm the official star, then one is certainly doomed to death without doubt. Once the official seal is qualified, the most dangerous thing during major changes in fortune is when the official seal changes through combination. If it forms a triple harmony in the earth branches, or turns into a pattern of official star, or wealth, or seven evils, it is most unfavorable.
The text says: Metal relies on earth to be born, but if the earth is too thick, the metal is buried; wood relies on water to be nourished, but if the water is too strong, the wood will float away. If fire is too fierce or earth is too dry, they cannot grow all things, for example, when the day ruler is the earthy Ji and sits on the firey Wu. If metal is too hard, it cannot produce water, for example, when the day ruler is the metallic Geng and sits on the earthy Xu. When strong earth meets strong fire, such a combination will surely lead to eye diseases, boils, and heat illnesses. Fertile earth cannot produce metal, dry metal cannot produce water, and water in a dead state cannot produce wood; in such cases, one must be careful and not treat them all as favorable. If water is born from metal and meets the autumn season, then the water is clear and the metal is white, making it beautiful and admirable; when one water is paired with three metals, it is called the "complete form." If fire is born from wood and meets the spring season, then the wood is excellent and the fire is bright, with the fire emitting red and green flames; at this time, seeing metal will harm the wood and extinguish the fire's flame. Therefore, the metal and wood as parents are considered favorable even when they are numerous; however, when there are too many fire parents, the fire becomes dry and the earth becomes fierce, and when there are too many water parents, the water becomes excessive and the wood floats, and when there are too many earth parents, the earth becomes heavy and the metal is buried, these are not favorable.
It is also said that for a day stem of Jia Wood born in the month of Zi, the time of Jisi is to be avoided, and the hour of Wu is feared because it conflicts with Zi. For a day stem of Yi Wood born in the month of Hai, the time of Wuchen is to be avoided, and the hour of Si is feared because it conflicts with Hai. For a day stem of Bing Fire born in the month of Mao, the time of Xinmao is to be avoided, and the hour of You is feared because it conflicts with Mao; if born in the month of Yin, the time of Gengyin is to be avoided, and the hour of Shen is feared because it conflicts with Yin. For a day stem of Ding Fire born in the month of Yin, the time of Gengzi is to be avoided, and the hour of Shen is feared because it conflicts with Yin; if born in the month of Mao, the time of Xinmao is to be avoided, and the hour of You is feared because it conflicts with Mao. For a day stem of Wu Earth born in the month of Wu, the time of Guimao is to be avoided, and the hour of Zi is feared because it conflicts with Wu. For a day stem of Ji Earth born in the month of Si, the times of Renzi and Renxu are feared, and the hour of Hai is feared because it conflicts with Si. For a day stem of Geng Metal born in the month of Wu, the times of Jimao and Yiyou are to be avoided, and the hour of Zi is feared because it conflicts with Wu; if born in the month of Si, the time of Wuyin is to be avoided, and the hour of Hai is feared because it conflicts with Si. For a day stem of Xin Metal born in the month of Si, the times of Gengyin and Jiawu are to be avoided, and the hour of Hai is feared because it conflicts with Si; if born in the month of Wu, the times of Xinmao and Yiwei are to be avoided, and the hour of Zi is feared because it conflicts with Wu. For a day stem of Ren Water born in the month of You, the time of Dingwei is to be avoided, and the hour of Mao is feared because it conflicts with You; if born in the month of Shen, the time of Bingwu is to be avoided, and the hour of Yin is feared because it conflicts with Shen; if born in the month of You, the time of Dingsi is to be avoided, and the hour of Mao is feared because it conflicts with You. All these day stems prefer to see a same-element companion to unblock the energy flow, and they fear the presence of food god and official star which consume the influence of the heavenly stem and generate wealth. If these are violated, and the fortune moves to a place where the day stem and its heavenly stem are weak, but the wealth star is strong, then the person will be greedy for wealth and damage the heavenly stem, leading to loss of position and official rank.
The classics say: When the official star and the wealth star appear together, all affairs will be difficult to achieve. It also says: When the official star appears in the month and is pure without the wealth star, it indicates success in the imperial examination and achieving a high rank. It also says: If the body is strong and the official star is numerous, then encountering the wealth star is not a problem; if the body is weak and there is an official star, then encountering a harmful star is not a problem either. It also says: When the official star has a root, it is favorable to meet the wealth star; when the official star has no root, it is unfavorable to meet the wealth star. Here, the term 'root' refers to the official star. If the official star has both the official and wealth stars, then the wealth star can generate the official star, the official star can generate the official star, the official star can generate the body, and the body can restrain the wealth star, forming a prosperous and noble situation, so it is not unfavorable to meet the wealth star. It also says: When the official star has a root, meeting the wealth star brings fortune, meeting the official star brings prominence, meeting a combination brings obscurity, and meeting a clash brings disaster. The "Tongming Fu" says: When wealth and official stars are intertwined, one should consider the strength of each; if wealth is light and official is heavy, then one should choose the official over the wealth, and the nobility is evident; if official is light and wealth is heavy, then one should choose the wealth over the official, although it may be against the禄, but if the heavenly stems and earthly branches are strong and prosperous, it can instead bring wealth. The "Baojian" says: When the official star is harmed by wealth, the mother dies early. The "AoZhi" says: When the official star is harmed, one will lose the ancestral property and leave the homeland. The "Luoyi Fu" says: When the official star is in the position of the child, it can receive honor and support from children. The "Qianlima" says: When encountering the official star, one should also consider the official star; among ten cases, seven will be noble. The "Zao Weilun" says: When the official star meets the Huagai, one can hold a position in the Hanlin Academy. The "Wanqi Fu" says: When the official star meets the wealth star, it is凶; when it meets the official star, it is吉; if there is an official star but no official star, even if one is wealthy and noble, there will be injuries; if there is an official star but no official star, even if one is prosperous and noble, there will be deficiencies. The four pillars most fear encountering death or decline, while the year, month, and day trigrams prefer to see growth.
Ancient poetry says: When one's destiny meets the印绶, the fortune is not light, and in youth one can calmly enjoy what is already available; if the印star is prosperous and strong and numerous, the fortune is especially deep, receiving the grace of ancestors and establishing fame and achievement. Another poem says: Meeting the印star in the month is most favorable when accompanied by the official star; when the fortune moves into the official's territory, the fortune is certainly pure; if the fortune reaches a dead or exhausted place, it is harmful to oneself, and if one then moves into the wealth territory, nothing will succeed. Another poem says: If the印star is not lost, one enjoys complete fortune, serving as an official and inheriting the grace of ancestors, possessing fields and gardens; the official receives imperial edicts, and the grain and wealth are abundant, spending ten thousand coins on a single meal. Another poem says: A pattern with many印stars is originally strange, yet one must carefully examine the earthly branches; if the earthly branches carry Xianchi and the heavenly stem also forms a harmonious combination, then it is a person who is frivolous and wasteful, leading to ruin. Another poem says: Those with many印stars enjoy what is already available, but one must fear the food god secretly causing conflict; if one does not die young and go to the underworld early on, one will have to be lonely, leave home, and suffer from chronic illness. Another poem says: Those with印stars should not have the day master too strong, even if there is no problem, it is only ordinary; unless the original destiny has many officials and evils, one can have a reputation and be capable of being a pillar of society. Another poem says: Those born with印stars have pure prosperity, but encountering many officials and evils instead brings out spirit; if the印star reaches a dead or exhausted place or the wealth is strong, without salvation, one will ultimately become a person in the underworld. Summarizing the views of various sources, the favorable and unfavorable aspects of印star are now clear.
At this time, there is a birth and a supporting element.
For example, if the day stem is Jia Wood and it is born in the Zi hour, then the癸 Water in Zi is taken as the印绶 to support the day stem. Such people are intelligent and resourceful, and can enjoy official salary comfortably. In the year and month, there should be the 辛 Metal 正官 to generate the印, and the fortune should move towards the Northwest, where both official and印 are strong, indicating a noble destiny. However, if the戊 and 己 Earth in the four pillars are too heavy, and there is also the Wu character to冲破 the Zi Water, and the fortune moves towards the Southeast, where both official and印 are weak, then nothing will be accomplished, and such a person will merely be a low-ranking official or a common citizen in the market.
The child is accompanied by the official star.
The classics say: When the position of the womb meets the nourishing influence, one can enjoy a thick salary of a thousand measures. For example, on days like Gengyin, Xinmao, Bingshen, and Yiyou, the day stem is in the position of the womb in the day branch, and the day, hour, and month are all in the place of the nourishing influence, which indicates a high status. The classics also say: When the day and hour form the womb pattern, and the month is in the place of the nourishing influence, if there is also the seven harmful stars and the official star and nourishing star are present, the official position can reach the level of the Three Grand Ministers.
Abandoning the seal (position) to pursue wealth
The classics say: To discuss abandoning the official seal in favor of wealth, one must first distinguish between the biased official seal and the proper official seal. The principle that the official seal is disliked by wealth is quite clear: if the proper official seal is in the month, it must not be seen with wealth; if the proper official seal is in the year or the hour, but wealth is seen in the month, then one should take wealth as the main element, still preferring the official seal to nourish the self and counteract the wealth, which is considered auspicious. As for the biased official seal, seeing wealth in the month, year, or hour is not a problem, which is called "abandoning the official seal in favor of wealth," discarding the lighter one to take the heavier one. For example, if the day's main element is壬water born in the month of申, or if the day's main element is丙fire born in the month of寅, and the day's main element is sitting in the position of growth, and wealth is also present in the year or hour, this is a case of strong self and a favorable situation for wealth. Such a transformation will certainly lead to abandoning the family's legacy and establishing one's own career to stand on one's own.
On the Reverse Consumption (Dao Shi)
"Dao Shi" is another name for the偏印, also known as "Tun Dan Sha." The food god is most忌 to meet it. For example, if Jia wood produces Bing fire as the food god, Bing fire can then produce earth, which is Jia's wealth. Wealth becomes strong and then produces metal, which is Jia's official. When the food god is strong, both wealth and official are complete. Now, if Jia wood meets Ren water, it becomes Dao Shi: when Ren water is strong, it will overcome Bing fire. Bing fire being overcome cannot produce earth, so Jia has no wealth. Ren water also combines with Ding fire, which harms Jia's Xin metal official, so Jia has no official. Ren water overcoming Bing fire allows Geng metal seven evils to remain unharmed and turn to harm Jia wood, causing Jia wood to suffer misfortune. This is why those who use the food god most忌 to meet the偏印.
If a person's destiny includes a倒食 (reverse food), their fortune is shallow and their lifespan is short; however, if there is something that restrains or combines with it, this is not the case. For example, on a Jia day, seeing Renchen or Renxu, the earth in Chen and Xu can control Ren, and there is also Ding fire to combine with it; on a Yi day, seeing Guiwei or Guichou, the earth in Wei and Chou can control Gui; on a Bing day, seeing Jia Shen; on a Ding day, seeing Yi Si or Yi You; on a Wu day, seeing Bing Zi, Bing Shen, or Bing Chen; on a Ji day, seeing Ding Hai; on a Geng day, seeing Wu Yin or Wu Chen; on an Xin day, seeing Ji Mao or Ji Hai; on a Ren day, seeing Geng Wu or Geng Xu; on a Gui day, seeing Xin Si or Xin Wei. These偏印 (biased wisdom) do not harm the food god, because they are already restrained. If the day's main element is strong, and wealth and official positions are supported and nurtured, the biased wisdom can be used as a blessing to help the main element: on a yang day, it can secretly combine with the official position to generate wealth, and on a yin day, it can secretly combine with the wealth star; if the original destiny does not have a food god, then it is simply considered as biased wisdom and not called reverse food.
It is also said that if a person's destiny includes the food god and also encounters the hawk god, it is like being controlled by a superior, with no freedom in anything; they hesitate and waver in their actions, feel regret and laziness, start things but fail to complete them, and their wealth comes and goes repeatedly. Their appearance is crooked, their body is short and small, they are timid and lack confidence, and nothing they do succeeds. They also harm the six relations, causing the death of their mother in childhood and harming their wife and children as they grow older. The essay says: the hawk god is also called the biased print, and if the day's ruler is strong, it can bring wealth and blessings; but if there are punishments and evils, it leads to a short life and poverty. If the wealth star appears, one must work hard day and night; if the evil star is born, one must carry burdens without rest. If the body is weak and the biased print appears repeatedly, it brings sorrow and early death like Yan Hui; if the true food meets the hawk god, it is unavoidable to suffer the misfortune of Han Xin. The first encounter brings laziness, and repeated encounters bring a crooked appearance. The essay "Wanqi" says: when the hawk god meets the official and evil stars, there are many successes and many failures; when the biased print meets the wealth star, it can turn disgrace into honor; if the body is strong, it brings honor, but if the body is weak, it is ordinary; those with the injurious star have a prosperous life, while those with the food god are lonely in the world. An old poem says: among the print stars, the biased one is called the hawk god; in the four pillars, the most desirable is the wealth star; only when the body is strong does it bring blessings, but when the body is weak and the hawk god is strong, it becomes even more cruel.
For instance, in the combination of Bingxu, Bingshen, Jiaxu, and Renshen, the Jia wood sees Bing fire as a food god, but also sees Ren water as a reverse food. Jia wood is born in the month of Shen, suffering from the control of the seven deadly stars without any life qi. The two Bing fires further drain its energy. When Ren water comes to control the Bing fire, the seven deadly stars (Geng metal) can then exert their controlling power, so this person has neither fame nor fortune. Another example is the combination of Renshen, Renzi, Jiaxu, and Bingyin. The earth branches form an official bureau, and the time branch returns to the native's hour, allowing the water's essence and fire's brilliance to combine perfectly, forming a clear and bright image of wood and fire. Another case is Jiwei, Renshen, Jiazi, and Bingyin. Here, the seven deadly stars are transformed into official stars, the time branch returns to the native's hour, and the refined qi is obtained. This combination has both the clarity of wood and fire and the freshness of water and wood. Both of these combinations are of great importance. Previously, it was said that reverse food is to be avoided, but if it is met with control or combination, it can instead lead to great fortune. Therefore, one should not immediately consider reverse food as a bad omen.
On Mixed Qi
The term "zaji" refers to the four branches: Chen, Xu, Chou, and Wei. Chen contains Yi, Wu, and Gui, representing the repository of water and earth; Xu contains Xin, Wu, and Ding, representing the repository of fire; Chou contains Gui, Xin, and Ji, representing the repository of metal; and Wei contains Ding, Ji, and Yi, representing the repository of wood. Each of these should be analyzed according to the qualities they contain in relation to the day stem. They may function as official, wealth, or intellectual resources for the day stem. Officials bring fortune, wealth is the source of sustenance, and intellectual resources are the fundamental support for oneself, being most important for a person. Each of the four repositories contains three elements, all of which are impure energies in the universe, hence the term "zaji" is used.
The classics say: Wealth, official position, and official seal are all complete, and they are all contained within the four earthly branches of Chen, Xu, Chou, and Wei. This refers to this pattern. This pattern favors the revelation of heavenly stems and the conflict or punishment of earthly branches, and it is disliked when the earthy branches are suppressed by earth; the rest of the favorable and unfavorable aspects are the same as those discussed earlier regarding the official wealth and official seal in the main season. For example, someone born on the sixth day of Jia with the month of Chou: the metal of Xin in Chou is the official, the earth of Ji in Chou is the wealth, and the water of Gui in Chou is the official seal. We look at which heavenly stem is revealed, and according to that, we determine the order of fortune. We also need to consider the depth of the solar term, and see which one is in season. In general, revealing wealth indicates richness, revealing official position indicates nobility, and revealing official seal indicates enjoying the blessings of one's father and grandfather and receiving the honor and protection of imperial edicts. If none of them are revealed, then there should be some conflict or punishment, and the day's main element should be strong. It is most disliked if the day's main element is weak. However, if the conflict or punishment is too strong, the fortune stored in the repository will be scattered. If the original four pillars already have destructive or harmful elements, it is even worse to encounter such a conflict or punishment in the destiny. If one encounters such a destiny, it becomes excessive, damaging the refined qualities, and thus becomes inauspicious. If there are no destructive or harmful elements originally, then it is favorable to encounter such a conflict or punishment in destiny.
The *Jingjian* says: For miscellaneous qi wealth and official positions, if the day's ruler is strong and the treasure warehouse is disturbed, one can achieve success; but if the disturbance is excessive, it may result in loneliness and poverty. It also says: For the pattern of miscellaneous qi wealth and official positions, having many wealth stars in the four pillars is a good fortune; if other patterns are present in the four pillars, then the judgment should follow that pattern. It also says: In the pattern of miscellaneous qi wealth and official positions, there are sub-patterns such as the proper official position, the biased official position, the proper wealth, and the biased wealth; in the pattern of miscellaneous qi official and ministerial influence, there are sub-patterns such as the proper ministerial influence and the biased ministerial influence, and one must clearly distinguish between biased and proper. If it is the biased official position, some restraint is also needed. If the treasure warehouses are repeated and there is no punishment or clash originally, and the noble qi does not appear in the heavenly stem, with the earthy element Wu Ji soil pressing on top, it is hardest to achieve success in youth. Therefore, young people whose wealth and official positions are locked up, with things buried in the tomb, cannot manifest. It also says: The four earthy branches, Chen, Xu, Chou, and Wei, are also the places of decline, nourishment, and capping; if one sees this in the hour position, it is called the "hour tomb pattern," which is treated the same as the month position, but the success comes later. For example, in the birth chart with Ding Hai, Wu Zi, Bing Shen, and Ji Chou, the fire is considered to have the tomb in Chou as the wealth warehouse; when the destiny reaches the Wei year and clashes with the Chou warehouse, wealth is achieved. If the birth chart contains Yin water, then Chen is the official warehouse; when the destiny reaches the Xu year and clashes with the Chen warehouse, official position is obtained.
If there are other combinations such as Wuchen or Jichou lying over the repository position in the four pillars, then wealth and official positions cannot be achieved, and it cannot be considered a good destiny. If there is originally a clash, but a harmonious combination appears in between, then the clash will not take effect. It is also said that when the month stem is located in the repository position, it carries the qi of the four directions and their corners: for example, if the repository is wood and it moves towards the east, or if the repository is fire and it moves towards the south, or if the repository is water and it moves towards the north, or if the repository is metal and it moves towards the west, then when the destiny moves to the place of birth and growth, it will certainly achieve success. However, for example, if the month stem is located in the water repository of Chen, but the destiny moves towards the south without any combination to bring out the water, then it can only be considered as earth.
It is also said that ancient people regarded the places where the Five Phases are buried as warehouses. If a person's destiny includes a warehouse and also encounters the Five Phase that is naturally overcome by their own destiny, then it is called having wealth in the warehouse, and such a person will certainly have a prosperous family. Conversely, if a person's destiny includes a burial place and also encounters the Five Phase that they fear, then it is called being without support in a dead end, and such a person will certainly face obstructions. If the Five Phases are in sequence as warehouses and are pure without being broken, and if there are auspicious deities present, this is the pattern of holding an official position in two government offices. If although broken, it is still in a thriving state, or although broken it has entered a dead end, as long as there are auspicious deities present, it is then judged in descending order. If both the Five Phases are overcome and broken without any auspicious deities, then such a person is merely an ordinary commoner.
This type of "treasure tomb" pattern, regardless of whether it is noble or humble, only brings personal prosperity in one's lifetime, but is not beneficial to the six relations, and is also difficult to have offspring. There is another type called "treasure head ghost": those with Jia or Yi see Xinwei, and should avoid Dingsi again; those with Bing or Ding see Renxu, and should avoid Wuyin again; those with Wu or Ji see Jiachen, and should avoid Gengyin again; those with Geng or Xin see Dingsi, and should avoid Guisi again; those with Ren or Gui see Wuchen, and should avoid Jiayin again. It is also called "chariot evil." If one violates the forbidden characters, it leads to vehicle damage, horse foot injuries, women's diseases and misfortunes, and common people suffer from theft. The "Shen Bai Jing" says: if the birth day is afflicted by this but can be used beneficially, and the hour does not violate the forbidden characters, it often brings wealth and honor; scholars may achieve success in the imperial examinations early, and common people may excel in their skills.
There is another type called 'Kutou Cai' (treasure at the head): those with Jia or Yi see Jiwei, those with Bing or Ding see Gengxu, those with Wu or Ji see Renchen, those with Geng or Xin see Yichou, and those with Ren or Gui see Bingchen. Scholars are often capable of holding positions responsible for managing money and grain, and common people also have prosperous family businesses. This is equivalent to having wealth and officialdom revealed. Conversely, if someone of the metal element sees JiChou and the Nayin element is fire, or someone of the wood element sees YiWei and the Nayin element is metal, or someone of the water element sees BingChen and the Nayin element is earth, or someone of the earth element sees WuChen and the Nayin element is wood, or someone of the fire element sees RenXu and the Nayin element is water, such a configuration is considered 'Mu Zhong Feng Gui' (meeting a ghost in the tomb), which is very dangerous and suspicious.
An old song says: miscellaneous wealth and official positions should be taken from the month's palace, and only when they are revealed by the heavenly stem can they be considered abundant; when wealth is abundant and officials are strong, it is suitable to have a clash that opens the storage, but one must avoid having both heavenly stem and earthly branch heavily suppressing them. Another song says: miscellaneous wealth has never been pure, only when revealed by the heavenly stem can it be genuine; if the day's ruler is strong, wealth is abundant, and officials are generated, then encountering a clash or punishment in the fortune path can actually gather treasures. Another song says: the month's palace as the main outline should not be clashed, for out of ten cases where the palace is clashed, nine are ominous; only when wealth and officials are truly hidden in the storage, does encountering a clash lead to success. Another song says: when the storage in the hour's column meets an official, success comes late, and it is most unusual to encounter a clash or control; as long as there is no suppressing earth above the noble quality, both high official position and prestige are suitable.
Another verse says: Those who are young and cannot achieve success are those buried in the grave, because their wealth and official positions are locked inside the storehouse; having something that breaks or harms can instead open the lock, and those that are suppressed and hidden will ultimately suffer. Originally, the combination of Ding and Ren takes the辰 (Chen) as their grave, but when Wu earth comes and harms them, the rich become poor; if there are also the wood of Yi and Mao or Jiayin, they will rescue them, and the wealth star will surge forth, naturally leading to honor and prominence. Another verse says: Mixed wealth and official positions, along with the official seal, should be treated the same way; in the pattern, the most disliked are ghosts, evils, and excessive wealth stars; it is best to have more support from our own side, although we like to meet them, we must do so in moderation. If there is too much wealth, it is suitable to step back and give way; if the official position is strong, the fortune is endless. Greed for wealth and damaging the official seal, remember this point, otherwise fighting over trivial gains is just a waste of effort. Another verse says: Wealth and official positions mixed in the storehouse are most favorable when they generate the self and proceed to a strong land; when the evil forces are heavy and the body is weak, it is suitable to have them restrained; when there is too much wealth and the storehouse is full, it needs to be broken open. If there is another favorable element in the Five Phases, seek another pattern; if the four pillars are without emotion, there is another interpretation; if the big years and the ten thousands of years move to a place of strong wealth, the reputation will grow day by day, especially strong.
