The secret says: It is not advisable to encounter the storage period in childhood, but encountering it in old age brings prosperity and flourishing. It also says: If a prosperous and strong official, a prosperous and strong seal, and a prosperous and strong wealth all enter the storage, there will be misfortune; if the injurious authority, the food god, and the strong self all meet the storage, disaster will occur. It also says: If a harmful force enters the storage, longevity will be difficult to extend. Therefore, those who take the official, the seal, the injurious authority, or the seven harmful forces as their useful gods should avoid the storage period. Only when they reach old age and encounter their own storage period is it considered auspicious.
On the Harmful Official (Shang Gan)
The concept of "Wang Gan" refers to a situation where I generate it, such as Jia wood encountering Ding fire or Yi wood encountering Bing fire. Jia wood takes Xin metal as its official star, but Ding fire, when strong, both drains the energy of Jia wood and suppresses Xin metal, preventing Xin metal from supporting Jia wood to achieve status, hence it is called "Wang Gan." In the case of Wang Gan, it is essential to eliminate the official star completely in order to regard it as a noble configuration. If the original birth already has an official star and it is further harmed, the harm becomes severe. The classic texts say, "Wang Gan meeting official star again brings numerous misfortunes," which means exactly this. Although Wang Gan is considered凶 (malevolent), it is still something I generate, belonging to me. After the official star is completely eliminated, Wang Gan can generate wealth, and strong wealth can then generate official star, creating a cycle of transformation that becomes harmonious. For example, if the month's stem is Wang Gan and the four pillars form a complete configuration, all falling into the position of Wang Gan without any conflict or disruption, and no official star is present, this is called "Wang Gan completely eliminated." There are also cases where the month's branch contains Wang Gan and the time stem contains Wang Gan, but the four pillars have no official star, which is also called "Wang Gan completely eliminated." If this is further combined with a strong day stem, strong wealth, or strong education, it can lead to success in the imperial examination and becoming a high-ranking nobleman.
People with this pattern are talented in many areas but arrogant and self-confident, with a high temper and a sharp, reckless mind. They often plan a lot but achieve little, frequently making things worse through their cleverness. They often feel that everyone else is inferior to them, and others therefore fear and dislike them. When there is a wounded official (shāng guān) but no wealth (cái), it leads to poverty. This is because the food god and wounded official generate wealth, while the seven deadly stars (qī shā) and official stars steal wealth. Therefore, the wounded official should see wealth, not the official star. For example, if Jia wood is born in the month of Wu (午), wood is already too weak and should not go further south. It is already too soft and cannot withstand metal to restrain it. Moreover, metal steals the energy of earth. Therefore, the official star should not be present. If there is no official star and the four pillars have no wealth to rely on, then even though one is smart and skillful, it is only empty fame and profit. The classic says, "When the wounded official has no wealth to rely on, even with skill, poverty is inevitable," which is exactly this meaning. The wounded official pattern mostly uses wealth, but sometimes uses the seal (yìn).
The Tianxuan Assignment says: When the day stem is in a position where it is harmed by the official star, it is suitable to remove the wealth star; when the wealth star is used, it is suitable to remove the official star. If both the wealth and official stars are present, then what can bring good fortune? If the day stem is strong, it is suitable to use the wealth star; if the day stem is weak, it is suitable to use the official star. When the official star is used, the wealth star must be removed to bring good fortune; when the wealth star is used, it is not necessary to consider whether the official star is present, and everything will go smoothly. When the harmful official star is used with the official star, it is not feared to have the official star; as long as the wealth star is removed, good fortune will come. If the original chart already has the harmful official star, it must meet the wealth star to bring good fortune. The harmful official star most prefers to travel through the wealth star's path; the official star and the strong day stem's path are secondary, and it is not preferred to travel through the official star's path. If there are many harmful official stars in the four pillars and the official star is present, it is not suitable to travel through the harmful official star's path again; if there is only one harmful official star, it is not a problem. It also says: The harmful official star pattern must completely eliminate the harmful official star; if the four pillars have the harmful official star and the official star is either hidden or present, the harmful official star is not completely eliminated, and if in the year or the big path the official star appears again, the official star comes strongly, and meets punishment and clash, yangren, seven evils, and harms the day stem. If the day stem is weak and the wealth star is strong, then it will certainly result in being sent away, imprisoned, or even death. If there is another saving god in the five phases, it will still result in disability. If the original chart has no official star, but the harmful official star and seven evils are too strong, and the path enters the official star's path, and the year's stem meets the official star, it will not suffer from eye disease, but there will certainly be disasters and losses.
The classic texts say that in the pattern of official injury (伤官格) of the Five Phases, only the cases where the day master is fire and the official is earth, or the day master is earth and the official is metal, are considered unfavorable when the official star appears. However, in the cases where the day master is metal and the official is water, or the day master is water and the official is wood, or the day master is wood and the official is fire, the appearance of the official star is not considered unfavorable. This is because: fire takes water as its official and earth as its injury; water fears earth to overcome it, and earth gains no benefit from water. Similarly, earth takes wood as its official and metal as its injury; wood fears metal to overcome it, and metal gains no benefit from wood. Therefore, in the fire and earth injury patterns, the appearance of the official star is unfavorable. Conversely, metal takes water as its injury and fire as its official; although water overcomes fire, when metal is cold and water is cold, fire is needed to warm them and enable them to function properly. Moreover, water gaining fire leads to a complete and harmonious state. Water takes wood as its injury and earth as its official; although wood overcomes earth, when water is excessive, wood floats and cannot survive without earth to control it. Moreover, wood gaining earth provides the strength to cultivate. Wood takes fire as its injury and metal as its official; although fire overcomes metal, when wood is too abundant, fire is extinguished, and metal is needed to cut and shape the wood for clarity. Moreover, metal gaining fire forms the image of objects. Therefore, the patterns of metal, water, and wood injury do not fear the appearance of the official star.
Therefore, the classics say: For fire and earth officials, it is favorable to completely eliminate the official star; for metal and water officials, it is better to see the official star; for wood and fire officials, when the official star appears, it must be strong; for earth and metal officials, it is better to remove the official star to achieve the official position; only for water and wood officials, both wealth and official star should be seen to be auspicious. This is exactly the principle discussed above.
It is also said that even when the pattern of a person with a wounded official (shāng guān) is complete, they may not necessarily have good fortune; and even when the wounded official meets the official, they may not necessarily have bad fortune. For example, a birth chart with two Dingwei and two Bingwu, with the day stem being Binghuo, sitting on Wu, the day stem is naturally strong. The four pillars have two Wus, two Dings, and two Weis, meaning both wealth and official are completely wounded. Although it is said that the wounded official is complete, the problem is that the four pillars have too much fire, which causes excessive dispersion of energy. If the person's fortune goes to the southeast, where fire is strong, there is not even a little wealth. The person's own strength is empty and unsupported, resulting in extreme poverty. Therefore, one should not simply consider a birth chart with a complete wounded official pattern and a strong day stem as a good fortune. Another example is when the day stem is JiaMu, and the four pillars have Xinjin as the official and Dinghuo as the wounded official. If the person is born in autumn, when the official is strong, even if there is Dinghuo, as long as Ding is sitting on Hai or Zi, or if there is Wu with Ren or Gui underneath, the Dinghuo will not damage the official. In the end, this person will have official rank. In the big years and fortune years, encountering evils, officials, and official seals are all good, but only the years when the day stem is weak should be avoided. Therefore, one should not simply consider a birth chart with an official in the wounded official pattern as a bad fortune.
It is also said that if a person's destiny originally contains only a little bit of the Wounding Official (Shangguan), it cannot damage the noble quality; or if one enters the official's territory in one's fortune, the official star will naturally become strong and vigorous; or if one enters the Seal territory, it will control the Wounding Official and the Seven Harmful Stars; or if there is wealth to support it; or if it transforms into another pattern through harmony: all these are not bad destinies. The only fear is to again enter the territory of the Wounding Official, at which time there may be illness causing one to be bedridden, otherwise there will be disputes over documents, lawsuits, and misfortunes following one after another. If the original four pillars already contain wealth, and one again enters the wealth territory, one can achieve fame and fortune; but if one enters the territory of the official and harmful stars, or if the wealth star is weak or dead, one will lose wealth and rank, either facing lawsuits or experiencing repeated tragedies.
It is also said that the official's injury in the four pillars is most harmful when it appears in the heavenly stem of the year. This is called damaging the foundation of good fortune, which cannot be removed for life. If there is another one in the month's branch, it is even more dangerous than the seven evils that harm the body. For example, if the day's master is jia wood and the official is xin metal, and the year is dingmao, and the month is yinwu xu, this is a case of repeated injury. Adding the卯 (mao) which is劫财 (jiacai) and yang blade (yang ren), it is called 'backing the official and chasing the horse', indicating that the person is hesitant and regretful in their actions, and damages the ancestral blessings. When the fortune moves to the official's territory, or when the year meets it again, or when the fortune moves to a harmful place while the body is weak, disaster will certainly occur. If the month is truly the official's injury and there is also an official star, for example, if the day is jia wood and the month is wu (noon) with the hour being xinwei, the wu contains ding fire which injures xin metal; if the day is yi wood and the month is si (snake) with the hour being gengchen or jia shen, the si contains bing fire which injures geng metal; if the day is bing wood and the month is wu with the hour being wu zi or gui si, the wu contains ji earth which injures gui water, these are all such cases. The general principle is: if the day's master is strong, then going through the injury fortune can still bring fame and fortune; but if the day's master is weak, going through the fortune of wealth and official will bring endless misfortunes.
It is also said that when discussing the concept of a wounded official (伤官), for a Jia day stem, the presence of Ding is considered as the wounded official; it is favorable for Ren water to harmonize with Ding and Gui water to overcome Ding. For a Yi day stem, the presence of Bing is considered as the wounded official; it is favorable for Xin metal to harmonize with Bing and Ren water to overcome Bing. For a Bing day stem, the presence of Ji is considered as the wounded official; it is favorable for Jia wood to harmonize with Ji and Yi wood to overcome Ji. For a Ding day stem, the presence of Wu is considered as the wounded official; it is favorable for Gui water to harmonize with Wu and Jia wood to overcome Wu. For a Wu day stem, the presence of Xin is considered as the wounded official; it is favorable for Bing fire to harmonize with Xin and Ding fire to overcome Xin. For a Ji day stem, the presence of Geng is considered as the wounded official; it is favorable for Yi wood to harmonize with Geng and Bing fire to overcome Geng. For a Geng day stem, the presence of Gui is considered as the wounded official; it is favorable for Wu earth to harmonize with Gui and Ji earth to overcome Gui. For a Gui day stem, the presence of Jia is considered as the wounded official; it is favorable for Ji earth to harmonize with Jia and Geng metal to overcome Jia. The "Ten Thousand Blessings Treatise" says: If the wounded official is present in the original birth chart's Yuanchen position and there is no official star, and if one also enters a wounded official cycle, this is called excessive leakage of energy, like a tree repeatedly encountering the fire position, which is called the dispersal of energy, leading to either poverty or early death. Such a birth chart favors a strong day stem and also favors entering an official cycle. The meeting of wounded official and official is originally a repeated depletion and obstruction, but when one enters an official cycle and it matches the chart, it turns favorable. This is because after the wounded official is completely exhausted, it is favorable to see the official star. If a wounded official is accompanied by wealth and also by the official star, the calamity is severe. If a wounded official is accompanied by the official star, the official and evil official stars do not cause punishment or harm. When there are many wounded officials, it is favorable to enter an official cycle, similar to when there are many food stars and the official star is used. When there are few wounded officials and one enters an official cycle, it becomes theOwl Spirit (a type of star) taking away the food. If a wounded official is accompanied by the official star, it is unfavorable to meet wealth. If a wounded official is accompanied by the official star, it is unfavorable to enter a cycle that suppresses the official. If the wounded official uses wealth, it is unfavorable to enter a cycle of similar elements. If the wounded official uses the official star, there is no need to avoid meeting the official or evil official stars. If there are many official stars in the presence of a wounded official, they should not be considered as official stars. If the wounded official is used as a basis for the official star, the official star in the year or month must be depleted, and the official star in the day or hour should not be harmed, as being harmed brings misfortune. It is also not favorable for the official star to be in the position of storage.
"The Thousand Li Horse" says: When a person has a wounded official and encounters an official, it is excellent if it can fall into the land of the seal or the land of wealth. It also says: When a wounded official meets wealth, there will be children. "The Heart of Divination" says: Those who have a wounded official and have it completely wounded are talented and skillful, good at scheming and arrogant, often deceitful and disrespectful to others, with great ambitions, high cheekbones, sharp bones, large eyes and thick eyebrows. "The Mirror of Divination" says: When a wounded official lacks wealth but has a Yangren, the person's actions are cunning. "The Bright and Clear Assignment" says: When a wounded official appears repeatedly, the person's life will certainly be hard and laborious. It also says: When there are many wounded officials and the day's ruler is strong but has no support, the person will certainly become a monk or a Taoist, or support themselves through skills. The secret says: When the wounded official is too heavy, there will be losses in children. It also says: If the wounded official appears in the year pillar, the parents are incomplete; if it appears in the month pillar, the brothers are incomplete; if it appears in the hour pillar, the children are fierce and stubborn; if it appears in the day pillar, the wife and concubine are unvirtuous. It also says: When the wounded official is not completely wounded, one must beware of unexpected disasters; when the wounded official meets wealth, one can enjoy a comfortable life; if the seven evil stars also appear, one must worry about illness and injury; if the day's ruler is strong but has no support, loneliness and suffering are inevitable; when the wounded official meets a劫财, accumulating wealth is like willow fluff carried by the wind; when the wounded official lacks the seal, seeking profit is like water droplets on lotus leaves that cannot hold rain.
An old song says: The official star is governed by the injurious official, and only when the official star is completely injured can one truly be a nobleman; if the injurious official does not fully injure the official star, and the official star is strong, then the calamity will be severe. Another song says: When the official star meets in the month and falls into the land of the injurious official, the injury is light and the strength is reduced, which is not too bad; but if there are also punishments, clashes, and destruction, then it is known that the official position will not last long. Another song says: After the injurious official has fully injured the official star, it turns to generate wealth, and the wealth becomes strong and generates the official star again, alternating with each other; if the four pillars do not have the official star clearly visible, one can conclude that the person will be wealthy and noble, without any doubt. Another song says: Meeting the injurious official is not favorable, but having wealth without the official star is the foundation of happiness; if the injurious official appears in the hour, day, or month, then when the fortune moves to a strong wealth position, the person will certainly be noble. Another song says: Only when the injurious official fully injures the official star is it considered special, but it is also feared that too much injury is not favorable; within this pattern, there are countless changes, and careful examination must be done with great effort.
Another verse says: When there is no official star in the destiny, the most dangerous thing is to be deprived of it; if one's fortune leads to the official's territory, then something unusual may appear; if both the stream year and the big fortune meet the seal star again in the birth chart, then wealth and honor are certain. Another verse says: The official star is not disliked when it meets the same kind of star, and the principle of the seven harmful stars and the biased official is the same; if there is no official in the destiny, then the same kind of star should be avoided, and if the day's main star is strong, it becomes even more harmful. Another verse says: If the official star is not fully harmed and meets the official star, it may result in beheading, hanging, imprisonment, or exile, causing various troubles; if it occurs in the month, then father and son cannot both survive; if it occurs in the day, then the main body is injured; if it occurs in the hour, then the children are in trouble, showing that wealth and honor cannot be complete; if the official star is exactly in the year of the heavenly stem, then that year will certainly bring sudden misfortune. Summarizing the above views, the joys and dangers of the official star are fully explained.
On the Food God (Shi Shen)
The concept of "food god" refers to the third stem following the day stem, which is the one that is generated by me. For example, Jia wood uses Bing fire as its food, and Yi wood uses Ding fire as its food. Bing fire is the source of Jia wood's energy, and Bing fire also generates Wu earth, which is Jia wood's biased wealth. Biased wealth is natural fortune bestowed by heaven, requiring no personal effort, and one can enjoy existing blessings. Between Jia and Bing there is a father-son relationship: when the son is strong and prosperous, he brings wealth and honor to support his parents, allowing the parents to live in peace and comfort. Moreover, Jia wood meets Geng metal as a seven evil star and Wu earth as wealth. The food god Bing fire can control the evil star Geng, preventing it from harming Jia wood, and can also generate Wu wealth, making the wealth useful to Jia wood. Whenever a person's chart encounters wealth and evil stars, if the food god is strong and prosperous, the evil star will be controlled by the food god and thus not cause harm, while the wealth will be supported by the food god and thus be abundant and continuous. Therefore, the food god is called "longevity star" and "title star," which is indeed reasonable. This pattern requires the day stem and the food god to be strong and prosperous, without being broken by clashes. Such a person will have abundant wealth and abundant food, a broad sense of fortune, a large and healthy body, a comfortable and easy life, children, and a long life. If wealth and food appear in the year or month columns, it indicates a wealthy and prosperous family background from the grandparents. If they appear in the day or hour columns, it indicates blessings for the wife and children. However, it is feared that both the day stem (mother) and the food god (child) are weak and extinct, which would result in no success in either direction.
Therefore, the classics say: the food god should be placed in a position where it is generated and flourishing, not in a position where it is declining or extinct. It also says: a flourishing food god is more effective than wealth and official positions. The food god most fears the biased official star, which causes the person to have incomplete undertakings, a crooked appearance, a short stature, a narrow-minded nature, frequent worries, and accomplish nothing. For example, if the Jia wood takes Bing fire as its food god, but the four pillars contain Ren water as Jia wood's biased official star, then Ren water will overcome Bing fire, and Bing fire cannot generate Wu earth or control Geng metal, causing Jia wood to be both restrained and lose its wealth, which is not a favorable situation. The "Yuan Li Fu" says: a person who uses the food god to control the malevolent star will suffer misfortune if the biased official star appears. "Yixing Chan Shi" says: the food god on a yang day can secretly harmonize with the official star, while the food god on a yin day can secretly harmonize with the correct official star; the official and the correct official do not need to be clearly revealed, as long as the food god is pure, it indicates nobility, wealth, and longevity. The food god should be only one, not too many, for fear of stealing and dispersing the original vital energy.
The classics say that when a single tree repeatedly meets the fire position, it is called scattering energy. This is exactly what is meant here. Those with many food spirits should go through a prosperous official position, while those with few food spirits should not, for it would lead to theOwl Spirit (weakening god) taking away the food spirit. Therefore, the food spirit prefers to have strong energy and the Lu spirit to support it; the best is to have the birth month's position as the official position, and the time position as the next best. If one also meets the nobleman's position, and travels through the place where the food spirit is strong and flourishing, great fortune and official position will result. This pattern should avoid the day's ruler being weak while theOwl Spirit is strong. Although the four pillars may like to see wealth, it should not be too much, for too much would not be pure, and one would only become a rich man. If the food spirit appears repeatedly, it becomes the injurious official, leading to few children. Even if there are children, they tend to be mischievous, stubborn, and rebellious. The food spirit should not enter its burial position, for that is equivalent to the injurious official entering its burial position, which shortens life. The most dangerous is to enter the Kongwang position; if the official or harmful star is also revealed, one tends to become a doctor, fortune teller, or other person from the lower class. If the food spirit is weakened and also enters the Kongwang position, one will not achieve high status; if one then travels through the dead or dying position or theOwl Spirit position, one will suffer from diseases related to the stomach and breathing, and will have difficulty with food and clothing, only able to endure hunger and cold.
It is also said that the Jia wood relies on Bing fire as its food. It is best if there are no Ren or Gui water, or Zi or Hai water in the four pillars. If there is water, the Bing fire itself will be restrained, become submissive, and unable to stand on its own, how could it then nourish its father, the Jia wood? If there is no such restraint, one should then look at whether the food god is strong and prosperous, and whether it is directed towards its own destiny land. For example, if Bing fire is born in the month of summer, and the fortune path goes through the southeast, both fire and earth are strong, then the wealth for Jia wood will certainly be abundant. If it is born in the first three months of spring, although Jia wood is strong and Bing fire is also born, the earth's strength is still weak, so it must reach a place where fire and earth are both strong in the south, then it can bring good fortune.
For example, if a person's destiny is based on the metal of Geng, then the water of Ren is considered the food. When the person's fortune moves through the northern region where water is strong, wealth will certainly be abundant; when it moves through the eastern region where wood is strong, blessings will come quickly. Careful analysis shows that Geng uses Ren as its food. The birth of Ren water is in Shen, so when it reaches Shen, the fortune is thick and prosperous. However, when Ren water reaches You, it is in the state of bathing and decline, so it is not good. Ren water produces Bing wood, and Bing wood is the wealth of Geng. This is the wealth generated by itself and distributed outward, not the wealth brought by the official wife. When Bing wood reaches You, it is trapped by metal, and Ren water itself is also in decline, so how can the wood help support its father? Therefore, this period can only be considered average. When it reaches Xu, if the heavenly stem meets Ren or Bing, it can only be considered half good and half bad. If it meets Wu earth, it can be considered a disaster; if it meets Geng metal, it can be considered a small fortune. When it reaches Hai, it is considered a great blessing. When it reaches Zi, it is the official of癸 water, which drains too much energy, damaging the original strength. Moreover, Geng metal dies in Zi, and Bing wood is in decline in Zi, so it should be considered as causing trouble and bringing disaster to the body. When it reaches Chou, it is the warehouse of Geng metal and also a place where water is strong. Combined with Jichou, which is the place where Geng metal is crowned and matured, it can be considered that this decade will be prosperous. When it reaches Yin, it is also good. When it reaches Mao, it is a disaster. The rest can be analyzed in the same way.
It is also said that the food god (食神) is disliked by the hawk god (枭神), but there are cases where one does not fear the hawk god. For example, in the column of Jihai, one does not fear the reverse food (倒食) caused by Ding fire, because Ding combines with Ren water to form wood, and Ren's strength is in Hai; in the column of Bingwu, one does not fear the reverse food caused by Ji wood, because Ji combines with Wu earth to form earth, and Wu's strength is in Wu; in the column of Yisi, one does not fear the reverse food caused by Gui water, because Wu and Gui combine to form fire, and the nayin sound element of Yisi also belongs to fire; in the column of Guisi, one does not fear the reverse food caused by Xin metal, because Bing and Xin combine to form water, and Ren's nobleman is in Si. Geng metal is the leader of all yang, so it does not fear Wu earth as reverse food, because Wu is the number representing yang returning to its source; Ji earth does not regard Xin metal as reverse food, because Xin is the beginning of the release of yin energy; Geng metal does not regard Ren water as reverse food, because Ren is the beginning of the release of yang energy. When there is Ding fire present, Xin metal does not fear Ji earth as reverse food, because Ding fire nourishes Xin metal; moreover, where there is Ding fire, there is also Ji earth, and yin and yang are interrelated, thus receiving the assistance of clear blessings.
The food god is the place where the ten heavenly stems gather blessings and fortune: a gentleman who possesses it will achieve success and wealth, while a petty person who possesses it will also have sufficient resources. If it falls in a place of accumulated good fortune, then one will have high official rank and substantialofficial stipend; if it falls in a place of accumulated misfortune, then one will have low status and a shallow destiny. For example, taking the day of Jiazi as a case: if the food god falls in Bingzi, it is the dignity of the "Fuxing" (Blessing Star); if it falls in Bingyin, it is the long life禄, also the禄 and Ma (horse) in the same hometown, and also the dignity of the "Xuetang" (Academy). If it falls in Bingchen, it is the proper印; if it falls in Bingwu, it is self-punishment that breaks the destiny; if it falls in Bingshen, it is the destruction of the body and禄; if it falls in Bingxu, it is the decline of the body and destruction due to Kongwang (empty void). The rest of the heavenly stems follow the same pattern. Whenever it meets birth and prosperity, the repository, the印, the "Tianyi" (Heavenly Sovereign), the "Tianguan" (Heavenly Official), the Huagai (Crown), the Wenxing (Literary Star), the Xuetang (Academy), as well as officials,印,禄, and Ma (horse), it is a place of accumulated fortune. When it meets destruction and damage, empty void, evil stars, punishment and harm, as well as rest, failure, death, and decline, it is a place of accumulated misfortune.
It is also said that Jia and Yi take Bing and Ding as their food spirits; if Bing and Ding are placed on寅 or卯 or巳 or午; Bing and Ding take Wu and Ji as their food spirits; if Wu and Ji are placed on辰 or戌 or丑 or未; Wu and Ji take Geng and Xin as their food spirits; if Geng and Xin are placed on巳 or午 or申 or酉; Geng and Xin take Ren and Gui as their food spirits; if Ren and Gui are placed on申 or酉 or亥 or子; Ren and Gui take Jia and Yi as their food spirits; if Jia and Yi are placed on亥 or子 or寅 or卯: all these are called "food spirit in a prosperous and strong position." If they are further accompanied by the Lu Spirit and a horse spirit in a prosperous and strong position, officials of the literary class may hold positions as close advisors to the two provinces and two ministries, while officials of the military class may become generals of the military commands, defenses, and local militias. Even without official positions, they indicate wealth and abundance. In summary, when the food spirit and the Lu Spirit appear together, and the four pillars are in proper order, this is considered the best situation.
The Hu Zhong Zi says: If one's destiny is afflicted by the "dào shí" (reverse eating) pattern, they are often controlled and troubled by others. If this pattern is repeated and layered, in children it indicates lack of milk, and in the elderly it indicates lack of food. If the proper food god is present with excess, it signifies wealth and prosperity. However, if many mouths compete for food but there is a deficiency, it indicates poverty and low status. Excess is like a Jia wood person having two or three Bing fires; deficiency is like having two Jia woods in the four pillars but only one Bing fire. It also says: When the day ruler and the time stem are repeated and consume each other, it is called "tūn dàn nǎo" (devouring the brain). If both the day and time are consumed by the food, it leads to diseases such as headaches and brain leaks. It also results in the death of the mother at an early age and the absence of a son to care for the person in old age. If within the "tūn" pattern there is another "tūn," such as a Jia wood person having the day and time stems meet with Ren water and also encountering Geng metal, it leads to poverty and death in the ditch. However, if there is a heavenly stem combination that rescues this situation, the harm can be mitigated.
The Xiangxin Fu says: Those who have the food god in their chart are most capable of eating and drinking, have a plump body and love singing. The AoZhi Chapter says: When the food god is in the month pillar and the day master is strong, such people are good at eating and drinking, have a full and thick constitution; if there are auspicious stars in the four pillars to support them, they will accumulate wealth and fame. The Youwei Fu says: Those with a strong and prosperous food god live longer as they age. The Yuanli Fu says: When the food god is in front and the seven evils are behind, one will achieve fame and success. The Baodian Fu says: When the food god is revealed in the month pillar and the official star is revealed in the hour pillar, one can achieve honor in the Imperial Inspection Office and become a minister who supports the country. The Wanqi Fu says: The food god is an auspicious star that controls evils, known as the longevity star; those with strong heavenly stems and a strong day master are wealthy and noble, while those with a strong food god but a weak day master are people with hardships. When wealth is strong, they can have a variety of dishes before them; when the official star is present, the rice cooker will have dust underneath. If only one food god is present, one can achieve fame and success; if there are two or three, they can only eat simple food in a narrow alley. If there are many yangren stars above, they will be busy all their lives; if there are conflicts and punishments, they will be struggling all their lives.
Ancient songs say: Using the food god to control the harmful force brings great good fortune; when wealth is strong, the wife and children will be prosperous and the offspring will be even stronger; if in the four pillars the harmful force that devours is controlled, it will surely serve the king on the golden terrace. Another song says: When the food god meets the禄, it is called "Heavenly Kitchen," best without clash and control, Kongwang, or official harmful force; if the fortune moves to the dead or extinct and biased official place, then we need to see whether the longevity star can combine and bring good fortune. Another song says: The food god and the official star should not appear together; only when wealth and official star appear, the good fortune will be more abundant; the food god prefers to move in the place where the day master is strong; if it meets the hawk god or the same kind, it will be empty. Another song says: The food god that is strong and prosperous is most commendable; it is best to move in the water, wood, earth, and metal places; without any official harmful force to mix, one's life will have abundant clothing and food and great honor. Another song says: For people with Jia wood, seeing Bing fire is originally a leakage of energy, but if Bing fire generates wealth, it is called the food god; such people are broad-minded and fat, with abundant clothing and food; if it meets the biased official, it indicates loneliness and poverty.
Another verse says: If the food god is strong and prosperous without being harmed or restricted, this pattern is superior to wealth and official positions; if the day master is also strong and the fortune moves towards wealth, one can enter the golden hall at a young age. Another verse says: If the food god is not harmed, longevity is ensured; the biased official is like a concubine, and once encountered, it is hard to bear; if there is no biased wealth to protect, this fate is like autumn grass suffering winter frost. Another verse says: The food god in the month is called 'Heavenly Kitchen,' and if a person's fate meets this, they will be rich and abundant; it is most forbidden for the hawk spirit to openly reduce fortune, and most disliked is when it is冲 (conflicted) and secretly erodes it. The food god can generate wealth, transform ghosts and evils, keep the body healthy, control the seven evils and turn them into good fortune, indeed accumulating something; scholars who meet this will benefit in exams, officials can receive important positions and imperial edicts. Summarizing the views of various schools, the joys and worries of the food god are fully explained.
Flying Heavenly禄 and Auspicious Horse
The *Xiji篇* says: If the month's stem is a food god, it may seem凶 but is not necessarily so; among these, there is a pattern called "reverse禄 flying冲". This pattern dislikes the appearance of official stars and also dislikes being restrained by a harmonizing god. Only four days fit this pattern: Gengzi, Renzi, Xinhai, and Guihai. They must be born in the tenth or eleventh month, when winter water is purely yin. The four pillars should also lack wealth and official stars. Only then can this pattern be used. It is also necessary that the branch of the month pillar, hour pillar, or year pillar matches the branch of the day pillar, so that they can jointly initiate the冲. The pattern dislikes the exposure of official stars; once an official star is exposed, the禄 flying冲 cannot take effect. It also dislikes being restrained by a harmonizing god; once restrained, the冲 cannot be formed. At the same time, there should be another character in the four pillars that harmonizes the禄 and horse produced by the冲, so that the noble quality will not be lost. This pattern favors food gods, food gods, and the running of a destiny that matches the day pillar's stem and branch.
For example, on a Gengzi day, Geng metal takes Ding fire as its official star. If born in the month of Zi, it is considered that the official star is in conflict with the month's ruler, which seems to be a bad situation. However, if there are many Zi characters in the four pillars, they can push the fire in Wu to emerge, allowing Geng day to obtain the official star, and thus should not be considered entirely as a bad situation. The four pillars should have either Wei, Yin, or Xu, and if one of these characters is present to combine with Wu, it is good. If there is a Chou character, the Zi will be distracted by combining with Chou, and thus cannot push the fire in Wu. If there is a Ding character, it is considered that the official star is revealed. If there is a Bing character, it is considered that the seven evils are revealed. If there is a Wu character, it is considered that the fire is filled, and if there is a Wu character, it is considered that the earth is consuming the fire. These all reduce the score. The same applies to the flow year and the big year. On a Renzi day, Ren water takes Ji earth as its official star. It also requires that there are many Zi characters in the four pillars to push the earth in Wu, allowing Ren day to obtain the official star, and the likes and dislikes are the same as on a Gengzi day. On an Xinhai day, Xing metal takes Bing fire as its official star; on a Guihai day, Gui water takes Wu earth as its official star. In both cases, the four pillars should have many Hai characters to push the fire and earth in Si, allowing Xing and Gui to obtain the official star. The four pillars should have either Shen, You, or Chou, and if one of these characters is present to combine with Si, it is good. If there are too many, it is not good. If there is a Yin character, the Hai will be distracted by combining with Yin, and thus cannot push the fire and earth in Si. If there is a Bing, Wu, or Ji character, it is considered that the official star is revealed, and these all reduce the score. The same applies to the flow year and the big year.
Ancient songs say: The pattern of official stars being directly opposed uses the stems Geng and Ren. Using the branch Zi to oppose and bring out the official star, the official star naturally becomes accessible; if the four pillars also meet one of the branches Yin, Xu, or Wei, which can harmonize with the official star, then official rank is achieved. Another song says: For days born on Geng or Ren with the month of Zi, the official star is opposed. If the branch Wu is disturbed, the fire of Ding emerges, and the earth of Ji also moves; as long as there is no conflict, destruction, or punishment, the person's fame and reputation will spread far and wide. Another song says: The flying heavenly horse and official star is recognized by few. For days born on Geng or Ren with the branch Zi repeated, it clearly indicates high status; if the four pillars are unobstructed and the official star appears, the person can rise to fame and reach the Phoenix Pool. Another song says: For days born on Xin or Gui, opposing the official star requires the branch Hai to be repeated. The fire and earth of Ji and Wu in the branch Si become prominent; if the branches You, Chou, or Shen are also present, and one of them harmonizes with the official star, then the person will achieve honor and success. Another song says: For days born on Xin or Gui with the branch Hai in the earthly branch, and the branches You, Chou, and Shen to harmonize with the nobleman; if the four pillars support each other and there is no earth stem Wu or Ji to restrain, the person's authority will spread over thousands of miles, and their fame will be far-reaching.
Reversed Wealthy Official Position
The month ruler is considered as a harmful official, and there is also a pattern called "reversed禄马", which shares the same preferences and aversions as "flying禄马", except that it does not consider the time pillar. This pattern only applies to two days: Bingwu and Dingsi, both of which occur in summer and are purely yang. For Bing fire, the proper official is癸 water; the pillar needs many and strong Wu characters to冲出 the癸 water in the Zi pillar, so that Bing day can obtain the official star. For Ding fire, the proper official is壬 water; the pillar needs many and strong Si characters to冲出 the壬 water in the Hai pillar, so that Ding day can obtain the official star. If there is also a character such as Chou or Yin, or Shen, Chen, Mao, or Wei, as long as one of these characters combines with the禄马 that has been冲出, it is excellent. Having too many such characters is not good. Bingwu day should avoid the character Wei, and Dingsi day should avoid the characters Shen and Chen, as these characters may interfere, causing the Si and Wu to be attracted to combine, and thus unable to冲出 the禄 in Zi or Hai. If the pillar contains Hai, Ren, Zi, or Gui, it indicates that the harmful official and the official are exposed, and the score should be reduced. The interpretation for the stream year and large year is the same.
An old song says: If a person born on a Jia day lacks an official star in their destiny but has many Wu characters in the chart, it forms a reverse冲 (clash) of the Lu and Ma (happiness and wealth), which corresponds with the official star of Gui water; as long as the Wei character does not interfere, even if Gui water and Zi water do not appear, their fortune will be high. Another song says: The noble aura gained through reverse冲 is unique, with Bingwu flying and clashing to produce the Lu spirit in Zi; although Gui water is the one that restrains Jia, it is actually its noble and prosperous element; once there is a conflict or the element is filled, it becomes an ordinary person. Another song says: The noble aura from reverse冲 is very great, with many Wu characters on Jia day being most favorable; without encountering the seven evils and without being hindered, a person of humble origin can ascend to the court smoothly. Another song says: On a Yi day, many Si characters indicate reverse冲, with the official star flying from the Hai palace; if the four pillars do not contain Hai or Ren water, and the Chen character does not hinder the Si snake, then prosperity and wealth will be abundant. Another song says: On a Yi day, reverse冲 for the official star requires strong Si characters, with Hai being the禄 (prosperity) of Ren water and also the land of noble people; if the four pillars do not contain Chen or Ren and Gui water, and the big year and destiny come to support, then prosperity and honor will naturally flourish.
Fuxing Nobleman
The "Fuxing Nobleman" refers to the situation where people born in the year of Jia see Bingyin or Bingzi, and those born in the year of Yi see Dinghai or Dingchou. According to the method of hidden stems, these are the true food god in the current ten-stem cycle, indicating a natural source of blessings. Those who encounter this are not necessarily of high status but will be wealthy. The other stems can be deduced in the same way. There is an old poem called "Jia and Bing Invite Each Other into the Tiger's Country," which is based on the year stem, hence using Bingyin and Bingzi as examples. If instead we start from the day stem and apply the hidden stem method, the calculation would be different.
The food god is in the same nest.
"The term 'food god in the same nest' refers to the situation where Jia wood takes Bing fire as its food god, and a person born in Jiazi sees Bingzi in their chart: both columns share the same earthly branch, and the food god and the day master share the same nest, which is like having something of one's own. Those who possess this pattern will not achieve high official rank but will be wealthy. The position in the month is less favorable than that in the day, and the position in the day is less favorable than that in the hour; if the day and hour columns are exchanged and both are strong and prosperous with a禄, then the person will achieve great wealth and status. For example, Han Wei Gong's birth chart is Wushen, Gengshen, Gengchen, Gengchen; Qin Hui of the Song Dynasty's birth chart is Gengwu, Jichou, Yimao, Renwu; and the birth chart of Wang Chonggu, a high-ranking official of our dynasty, is Yihai, Xinsi, Wushen, Gengshen, all of which belong to this pattern. As for the case where the food god is in the same nest but in a reversed relationship, such as Jiazi year meeting Renzi hour or Gengzi year meeting Wuzi hour, it also indicates a high status, but it may result in the loss of children."
The food god is in a harmonious combination.
"The 'food god with combination' refers to the food god being accompanied by another heavenly stem that combines with it. For example, a person with Jia wood sees Bing fire as the food god, and in their fate there is also Xin metal combining with Bing fire; a person with Ji earth sees Xin metal as the food god, and in their fate there is also Bing fire combining with Xin; a person with Yi wood sees Ding fire as the food god, and in their fate there is also Ren water combining with it; a person with Geng metal sees Ren water as the food god, and in their fate there is also Ding fire combining with it; a person with Bing fire sees Wu earth as the food god, and in their fate there is also Gui water combining with it; a person with Xin metal sees Gui water as the food god, and in their fate there is also Wu earth combining with it. Those who possess this pattern can hold official positions and wield authority and seals."
Hongluan Heaven Seal
"The Hongluan Tianyin" refers to the food god sitting on one's own repository: for Bing fire, the food is Wu earth, resulting in Wuxu; for Xin metal, the food is Gui water, resulting in Guichou; for Ren water, the food is Jia wood, resulting in Jiachen; and for Yi wood, the food is Ding fire, resulting in Dingwei. If such a combination appears in the day pillar or hour pillar, it indicates wealth and honor.
Ink pool surging spring
"The term 'Ink Pool Spring' refers to a day of Xin Si with the appearance of Gui Si or Gui Hai as the food god. For example, the八字 of Chen, a Minister of Court Discussion, is Xin Si, Ren Chen, Gui Si, Gui Hai, which fits this pattern. Similarly, Bing Yin prefers Wu Yin, Wu Shen prefers Geng Shen, Ji Si prefers Xin Hai, Geng Wu prefers Ren Shen, Jia Xu prefers Bing Yin, Ren Chen prefers Jia Shen, all belonging to the same pattern, indicating literary talent and high official rank."
On the Yang Blade (see the previous discussion on Yangren for reference)
"The 'Yang' refers to the 'Yang' in Yin and Yang, and 'Blade' refers to the blade of a knife. The 'Yang Blade' is located one position before the 'Lü' (favorable position), meaning that the strong energy exceeds its proper measure, thus causing danger. In detail: For someone with the Heavenly Stem Jia (wood), encountering the Earthly Branch Mao (Rabbit) is considered 'Yang Blade.' The Mao branch contains the Heavenly Stem Yi (wood), which is the younger brother of Jia. Yi can seize Jia's wealth, and also conflicts with the酉 (Metal) branch, which contains the Heavenly Stem Xin (Metal), the official position of Jia. Additionally, it combines with the Heavenly Stem Geng (Metal), which is Jia's seven deadly evil star. Therefore, it both seizes wealth, conflicts with the official position, and combines with the evil star, making it extremely dangerous. Only the five Yang Heavenly Stems—Jia, Bing, Wu, Geng, and Ren—have a 'Yang Blade,' while the five Yin Heavenly Stems—Yi, Ding, Ji, Xin, and Gui—do not. Hence, it is called 'Yang Blade.' However, when Yin Heavenly Stems encounter the 'Wounding Official' (a concept in Chinese astrology), the resulting harm is the same as that of the 'Yang Blade.' Therefore, when Yi (wood) encounters Bing (fire), it is also called 'Yang Blade.' Bing fire wounds Yi's official position (Geng metal), combines with the seven deadly evil star (Xin metal), and also reversely harms Yi wood. The harm caused by Yin metal to Yin wood is especially severe, so its danger is the same as that of the 'Yang Blade.' The 'Yang Blade' can be divided into three types: the first is the 'Seizing Wealth Blade,' which occurs when Jia encounters Yi, and is unfavorable for the wealth and official position pattern; the second is the 'Protecting Favorable Position Blade,' which occurs when Jia encounters Mao, and is highly favorable for the 'Returning Favorable Position' pattern; the third is the 'Opposing Favorable Position Blade,' which occurs when Yi encounters Bing, and is highly favorable for the pattern of 'Removing the Official and Retaining the Evil Star.'"
The *Xiji篇* says:劫财 and the Yang Blade are most undesirable when they appear in the hour pillar; if the flow year and big destiny also arrive together, calamity will come immediately. Here, the Yang Blade is specifically discussed in relation to the hour pillar, because the Yang Blade in the hour pillar is heavier than that in the year, month, or day pillars. For example, if someone is born with Jia wood as the day master, and the hour pillar shows Yi and Mao, this is the true Yang Blade. If the fate already encounters the Yang Blade, the calamity of harming the wife and breaking wealth has already been planted; if the flow year and big destiny again meet the Yang Blade, it is called "meeting together." Seeing Si and You indicates a conflict with the heavenly stem, while seeing Hai, Wei, and Xu indicates a combination with the heavenly stem. The Yang Blade is aInauspicious Sha, and the heavenly stem is aInauspicious Spirit; if the heavenly stem is supported by good spirits, being combined is still considered good; but if theInauspicious Sha Yang Blade conflicts or combines with the heavenly stem, it is called gatheringInauspicious Sha, and misfortune is inevitable.
The classics say: When the Yang Blade is in conflict or conjunction with the Tai Su, calamities will suddenly arise. This is exactly what is being discussed. However, one must distinguish carefully: if a person's destiny is weak, then this is indeed the case; but if the birth chart is strong, with a deep and robust qi, or if there are the "Heavenly Virtue" and "Monthly Virtue" as well as the gods of pardon to rescue, then it is just a false alarm and no major misfortune will occur. Alternatively, if the day pillar already has a blade and it is already in conflict or conjunction, and then the stream year and great destiny also bring conflict or conjunction, it is a great misfortune. If the Tai Su is in conflict or conjunction but the great destiny is not, or the great destiny is in conflict or conjunction but the Tai Su is not, then the calamity is considered to be half reduced. It is also said: if the day stem has no strength, then encountering the Yang Blade in the hour pillar is not considered凶. This means that the day ruler is in a state of death,绝, decline, illness, or sudden failure, and is not connected to the month's energy, unable to bear the wealth and official positions. At this time, encountering the Yang Blade can instead help to share the wealth star and resolve the seven evils. It is like a elder brother who is weak but has too much property, and with the help of his younger brother sharing part of it, he can manage this wealth and use it for himself, so it is not considered凶.
When the day stem is weak and encounters wealth and official stars, it naturally prefers the Yang Blade to share the burden of the wealth star and to bind the seven evils; if it encounters food god or injurious stars, the day stem being weak is further drained of energy, and it also prefers the Yang Blade to support it; but if it encounters the official star, then the day stem is no longer considered to be without energy. Previously, it was said that the Yang Blade is to be avoided, because when the body is strong enough to bear the wealth, it is not desirable to have it taken away; later, it was said that the Yang Blade is preferred, because when the body is weak and unable to hold onto the wealth, it is not to be avoided to have it taken away: these two situations each have their own meaning. This pattern is similar to the injurious stars. Any person whose fate encounters this pattern will have large eyes and yellow beard, be fierce in nature, proud and haughty, lack compassion and kindness, and instead show a mean and unfeeling attitude; they often suffer from chronic illnesses that do not heal, be greedy and violent, never satisfied, and be indecisive in their actions; they are often born out of wedlock, leave their ancestral home, and be adopted by others, and they may harm their father and wife. If the person's fate includes the Three Punishments, or self-punishment and the魁罡 (a term for a powerful star), they often achieve success and fame in the border regions. If the pattern becomes even more ruthless, or if it occurs in a place of strong wealth, it indicates a bad fate; but if the punishments and harms are all present and each has a strong position, and there is also a saving star, then the person will be extremely prosperous.
It is also said that the Yang Blade pattern generally does not favor the wealth (money) aspect, as wealth can stir up the blade. For example, if the day master is Wu (earth) and the blade is in Wu (noon), then the journey of Zi (water) which is the proper wealth is to be avoided; if the day master is Ren (water) and the blade is in Zi (water), then the journey of Wu (noon) which is the proper wealth is to be avoided; if the day master is Geng (metal) and the blade is in You (metal), then the journey of Mao (wood) which is the proper wealth is to be avoided. However, for the day master Ji (wood) with the blade in Mao (wood), the journey of Si (fire), Wu (noon), and Chen (earth), Xu (earth), Chou (earth), and Wei (earth) is not harmful, but the journey of You (metal) is to be avoided. Similarly, for the day master Bing (fire) with the blade in Wu (noon), the journey of Shen (metal), You (metal), Geng (metal), Xin (metal), and Chou (earth) is not harmful, but the journey of Zi (water) is to be avoided. This shows that the wealth which is to be avoided in the Yang Blade pattern is when the blade is in Wu (noon) and meets Zi (water) wealth, when the blade is in Zi (water) and meets Wu (noon) wealth, and when the blade is in You (metal) and meets Mao (wood) wealth. These are all the wealth that conflicts with the blade, hence they are to be avoided. As for Ji (wood) with the blade in Mao (wood), it does not avoid the wealth of Wu (earth), Si (fire), Wu (noon), Chen (earth), Xu (earth), Chou (earth), and Wei (earth), but rather avoids You (metal) which is the official. Similarly, for Bing (fire) with the blade in Wu (noon), it does not avoid the wealth of Geng (metal), Xin (metal), Shen (metal), You (metal), and Chou (earth), but rather avoids Zi (water) which is the official. So how can we generally say that the Yang Blade pattern avoids wealth? If the wealth is of the type that can generate the official, which is itself the Useful God, it should be welcomed, how can it be considered as something to avoid?
"The Mind and Heart" says: When there are multiple Yang Blades and wealth is present, it can actually lead to wealth and abundance, which is exactly this situation. Some people also say: For the heavenly stems of Jia, Wu, and Geng, encountering a blade and a clash often results in many misfortunes; however, for the stems of Ren and Bing, encountering a blade and a clash with Zi and Wu (which are the official positions) usually brings no misfortune, because Bing meeting Zi and Ren meeting Wu are both official positions, which are considered auspicious. It is also said: Jia wood takes Ji earth as its wife and wealth. If the four pillars have卯 (Mao) and Yi wood, Ji earth is harmed and cannot support Jia wood, so it indicates the loss of the wife. If in the big year and destiny, the劫财 (robber wealth) and Yang Blade are prosperous and strong, then it is indeed unavoidable. However, if other positions meet Geng, Xin, Sheng, or Xu, Geng metal can attract Yi wood as a wife and form a relationship, so it is no longer considered a seven evil for Jia; Xin metal can assist Jia wood to achieve honor, and also overcome Yi wood, the劫神 (robber god), thus turning misfortune into good fortune.
The classics say, "Jia marries his sister Yi to Geng, which is凶 but turns into吉," meaning exactly this. The same principle applies to the other stems. It also says that on the sixth day of Jia, encountering Yi Mao is凶, but encountering Xin Mao is吉. On Jia Shen day, encountering Ding Mao at the hour is not considered a刃, because the metal Geng in Shen combines with the wood Yi in Mao, turning it into wealth. However, if the wealth is clearly visible, it remains凶—Ding fire is a伤官, and Yi wood would take away the wealth. If both the year and the destiny come together, disaster is unavoidable. On Yi You day, encountering Geng Chen at the hour is not considered a刃, because Yi wood is under Geng metal, and the metal Xin in You can control the wood Yi in Chen. On Bing Zi day, encountering Jia Wu at the hour is not considered a刃, because the water Gui in Zi controls the fire Ding in Wu. On Ding Hai day, encountering Ding Wei at the hour is not considered a刃, because the water in Hai combines with Ding. On Geng Wu day, encountering Yi You at the hour is not considered a刃, because the fire Ding in Wu controls the metal Xin in You. On Ren Wu day, encountering Geng Zi at the hour is not considered a刃, because the earth Ji in Wu controls the water Gui in Zi. On Xin Si day, encountering Wu Xu at the hour is not considered a刃, because the fire Bing in Si combines with Xin. On Gui Si day, encountering Gui Chou at the hour is not considered a刃, because the earth Wu in Si combines with Gui. In all these cases, one should not encounter刑, 冲, 破, or 害 again. If none of these are present, then it is considered a good fate.
It is also said that the Yang Blade is a凶 star in the heavens and an evil demon in the human world. It favors the presence of a偏官 and an印绶, and dislikes the reverse chant, the hidden chant, the魁罡, and the triple harmony. In general, it is similar to the seven evils. Therefore, the Yang Blade favors the seven evils, and the seven evils also favor the Yang Blade; two凶 things restraining each other, just like the favor of the 正官 with the 正印, which is the union of good things leading to blessings. The classic texts say: the evils cannot be prominent without the blade, and the blade cannot have authority without the evils; when both the evils and the blade are present, it is something ordinary people do not possess. If the day's ruler is strong and not harmed by the official star, it is even better. If the original destiny already has both evils and the blade, and then the big years and the years of destiny meet them; or if there is only the blade but no evils, and then the big years and the years of destiny meet the evil's land, it will bring great blessings. If the original destiny has the blade and the印 but no evils, and then the big years and the years of destiny meet the evils, it will instead turn into thick blessings. If the four pillars originally have neither the blade nor the evils, and the destiny is matched with wealth and official stars, but then the big years and the years of destiny meet the blade and the evils, it will indicate a year of difficulty: disputes over wealth, brothers living apart, separation from wife and sending away concubines. If the original destiny has no blade, then encountering the blade in the big years and the years of destiny is not harmful, but it will indicate the possibility of harming the wife; if the original destiny has the blade, then encountering the blade again in the big years and the years of destiny is not advisable, nor should one go to the land of the official star and wealth; if one originally has the official star and wealth, and then encounters them again in the big years and the years of destiny, the harm will be very heavy, especially for those with a weak day's ruler, it will be particularly dangerous. It is also said that the day's blade only appears on three days: Wuwu, Bingwu, and Renzi, and the way of looking at them is the same as the Yang Blade.
The classics say: A red horse and a yellow horse lying alone, a black rat guarding an empty house, males will harm their wives, females will harm their husbands. This refers to the days of Bingwu, Wuwu, and Renzi. The day ruler does not like being harmed by conflict, opposition, destruction, or the Six Harmony. It should be controlled by the seven evils, and then if the person has official or educational luck, it is a good fate. The essay says: The day ruler most dislikes being opposed or harmonized, but prefers to be controlled by officials and evils. If it is both harmonized and opposed, it is凶; if it meets the official or educational luck, it is吉. If there is evil but no day ruler, doing things will be brave but without authority; if there is a day ruler but no evil, doing things will be confused and not successful. If there is no evil originally but the year meets evil, one should fear the invasion of misfortune; if there is a day ruler originally and the year meets another day ruler again, one should beware of disaster and danger. If the day ruler is in a prosperous position but the day master is in a dead position, that year is hard to consider as good; if wealth is strong but the official star is injured, that year does not necessarily have to be considered as bad. It also says: If there are many fires in the year and month on Wuwu day, it should be considered according to the official or educational luck; if there are many sons in the month and hour on Renzi day, it should be considered according to the "flying heavenly salary and horse"; if there are many wus onBingwu day, it should be considered according to the "upside-down salary and horse."
There is also "self-blade" which refers to days such as Guichou, Dingchou, Dingwei, and Jiwei. These days have the same day branch as the day stem, thus causing the day stem to be accompanied by a yang blade. There are also four days called "fei ren" (flying blade): Bingzi, Dingchou, Wuzi, and Jichou. These days have the yang blade in the opposite branch, which is triggered by the conflict of the day branch. The favorable and unfavorable aspects of these days are generally similar to those of the previous ones. The yang blade in the year column and the yang blade in the hour column are the most harmful. The yang blade in the year column indicates the destruction of the family's fortune, inability to inherit property from parents, and a life of giving without receiving, often leading to resentment. The yang blade in the hour column indicates harm to the wife and children, and no results in old age. If these appear again in the four pillars, there will also be illness among siblings. The yang blade in the month column is less severe, and the yang blade in the day column is even less severe. If a person's birth chart has many wealth and official positions in the month and day columns, but the day stem is weak, then having a yang blade in the hour column is not harmful. If the month column has seven evils and the hour column has a yang blade, and the day stem is strong, then it is very auspicious. If the month column has a yang blade and the hour column has only a slight presence of official star, which is not strong enough to control the blade, it is also considered凶 (unfavorable). It is also said that if a man's chart has broken wealth, stolen wealth, and injurious stars, it will definitely harm his wife and children. For a woman, it will harm her husband.
The text says: Losing wealth is a type of star similar to the companion star, and it is the god of robbery and plunder. When there is an abundance of wealth but the body is weak, encountering this is considered unusual; when wealth is weak but the body is strong, encountering it becomes a disaster. If there is wealth and one meets the robber star, as long as the fortune moves into the wealth area, one can still establish a family; if there is no wealth and one meets the robber star, even if it is not a year of wealth, one is bound to suffer loss. If the original destiny already has the robber star and one travels through a path of robbery, one can only live in poverty and hardship; if the day's ruler is strong and there is also the help of the official star, one will certainly achieve honor and fortune. The "Xiangxin Fu" says: Those with the robber star and the yang blade leave their ancestral home to establish their own households, appearing humble and benevolent on the outside, but being cruel and ignorant inside, with a tendency to be harsh and exploitative, without the heart of kindness and generosity. The "Xinjing" says: When there are many yang blades and the seven evils are present, one can achieve great honor, and pass the first class examination. The "Qianlima" says: When the yang blade and the biased official are both restrained, one can be appointed to an official position and hold military power. It also says: For a man encountering the yang blade, if his body is weak, it is considered unusual. It also says: When the yang blade is paired with the seven evils, one can enter officialdom and gain a wide reputation. It also says: When the yang blade enters the official and seven evils, one's fame will command the border regions. The "Yuxia Fu" says: When fire and metal interact to form the yang blade, it is like the fall of Green Pearl from the tower. It also says: When there are three or four yang blades, one is sure to suffer illness or even blindness. The "Jingshen Fu" says: When the entire chart is filled with yang blades, one is sure to die from being dismembered. The "Dingzhen Pian" says: When the yang blade meets the official star, even if one is rich, one will have a physical disability. The "Zao Weilun" says: When the yang blade meets the five elements' numbers, one will certainly repeatedly commit crimes and be exiled. I have seen many people who commit the yang blade evil who are blind, for example, those with the birth charts of Guiyou, Wuyin, Wuyin, Guichou, Bingyin, Gengyin, Bingwu, Yiwei, Dingmao, Guimao, Jiazi, Yihai, these three birth charts all have complete blindness in both eyes.
An old song says: When the Yang Blade appears in the hour branch, it is most favorable to have a strong official star to control it. If wealth star appears, it brings many troubles. If the flow year and big destiny year both clash and harmonize, misfortunes will suddenly arise and directly enter the family. Another song says: When the Yang Blade appears repeatedly and is again harmonized, there will be injuries. The person has a strong and stubborn character, with high spirit. If there are too many punishments and clashes, there will be many dangers. Only when there is control can good fortune be maintained. Another song says: When the Yang Blade meets the seven harmful stars and tends towards the official position, be careful that punishments and clashes will make the official fortune not prosperous. If, in addition to harmonization, there is a strong wealth fortune, one should be cautious of disasters and injuries. Another song says: The pattern of the Yang Blade and the same zodiac is not ordinary. It requires the appearance of the official star and the seven harmful stars. If the original destiny's Yuanchen does not have the official or harmful stars to control, and then the same zodiac and wealth star appear in the destiny, misfortunes will be hard to bear. Another song says: When the wealth star is weak and the Yang Blade is strong, and the destiny goes to a strong body position, it is very ominous. The lonely phoenix and single crane mourn in the quiet night, and in casual moments, they will cause the death of two or three wives.
Another verse says: When the blade meets the seven evils and the fortune moves to the official position, even if there are punishments, harms, clashes, or conflicts, it is still extremely prosperous; one should only be cautious about being combined with something else and moving to a place where wealth is strong, for that will certainly bring disaster and misfortune, and lead to punishment and injury. Another verse says: The day blade and the yang blade are viewed in the same way; the official star and the seven evils are both favored when they appear in the earth branch; if the year ruler does not harm the blade, then the clashes and conflicts in the earth branch can actually help build martial skills. Another verse says: The yang blade often resides before the禄 position; its person is strong-willed and decisive, with little compassion; it is not suitable to be combined with something else, and one should beware of disasters coming; if the wealth star appears, misfortunes will certainly follow; having officials and evils brings fame and reputation, without clashes or destruction leads to promotion and honor; if there are also punishments, harms, and the魁罡 together, one will achieve success in the border regions and hold great power. For example, a birth chart with Renshen, Renzi, Wuwu, and Yimao: the戊 earth day ruler sits on the yang blade; there are two壬 waters with申 and子, so the wealth is strong and abundant; although子 and午 clash, the申 and子 form a water trinity, so the clash does not affect午; the official star乙 wood at the hour position controls the yang blade, so it is only considered as a wealth and official star pattern, thus achieving great fortune. Another birth chart with Bingxu, Guisi, Wuwu, and Dingsi: the戊 earth day ruler receives the禄 in巳; although午 is the yang blade, it also receives the禄; there is also the印 to transform the blade's energy, thus achieving great fortune.
