Break the official position
Charting guides: BaZi Chart Calculator
In the four pillars, there were originally no wealth, official positions, or official seals, but there could be a branch that breaks out the official star. For example, on a day ofGuimao, the卯 breaks out the午's己土 as official; on a day of癸酉, the酉 breaks out the辰'sWu Earth as official; on a day ofJiawu, the午 breaks out the酉's辛金 as official. The column also needs another character to triple harmonize and hold the noble quality. The Yuanli Fu says: "卯 breaks out午, 午 breaks out酉, wealth and official position are both excellent." It also says: "If the year and day branches do not have a breaking official branch, but the month and hour branches have a breaking or harmonizing official branch, it indicates nobility. For example, on a day ofJiayin, the day itself does not break, but if the month hasBingwu and the hour hasJisi, then the午 breaks out the酉's辛 official, and the巳 harmonizes it. Moreover, the丙 and 戊 in巳 harmonize the辛, so it is considered noble." A poem says: "卯 breaks out午, 未 then has great official position; 午 and 未 breaking out酉 are treated the same way; 丑 breaking out巳 and 午 are not treated this way; 子 breaking out卯 and 辰 are not difficult to apply."
Flying Wealth (a term referring to unexpected or sudden wealth or gains)
The term "Flying Wealth" refers to a situation where the day stem matches the month stem, and the day branch matches the hour branch. Using the repeated earthly branch, one can create a conflict with the opposite palace to generate wealth. Those who possess this pattern are likely to gain wealth and official rank, but they should avoid being drained of energy. If energy is drained, it leads to misfortune. For example, if someone is born on a Renshen day and the hour branch is also Shen, the two Shens conflict to bring out the wood in Yin, which is considered wealth. If the year or destiny encounters Zi, it forms a water trinity. Suppose the day stem is Geng and the branches form a situation that drains energy, turning it into a damaging official, then it cannot generate wealth. If the heavenly stem of the year or destiny meets the seven harmful stars and attacks the body, it will certainly lead to death. Because the "Flying Wealth" pattern requires the earthly branches to remain unchanged and not form other trinities. For instance, in a birth chart with Wuyin, Jiwei, Wuyin, and Jiayin: there are three Yins, one Geng seven harmful star, and in June there is no wealth energy, the same stem is very strong; yet it gains wealth by the three Yins conflicting with Shen's growth water. If the destiny moves towards the northwest, it will accumulate great wealth.
Loss of wealth
This pattern is exemplified by someone born on Yimao day, whose八字 lacks wealth and officials. In such a case, the character Mao is used to break out the earth element in Wu and Wei to represent wealth. It is best if there is either Yin or Xu to secretly combine with the wealth energy. It is undesirable for劫财 to fill the empty position. If the wealth position is already present in the column or has been filled, the position that is being broken will not be broken. For example, on Gengshen and Xinyou days, the wood in Yin, Mao, and Chen is broken to represent wealth; on Bingwu and Dingwei days, the metal in You and Xu is broken to represent wealth; on Renzi and Guichou days, the fire in Si and Wu is broken to represent wealth. These days are either day blades or day lodgings, so their essence is strong, allowing the use of breaking to obtain wealth. For other days where the main element is weak, they cannot break and obtain such unexpected wealth. Those who fit this pattern often achieve sudden success and gain unexpected wealth. A poem says: If the destiny does not have wealth, look for broken wealth; the wealth obtained by breaking can pile up like mountains. If the fortune moves towards officials and official stars, then blessings will be abundant, but fear punishments and clashes and filling the positions which bring calamities. Another verse says: Breaking Wu and Wei with Mao can obtain wealth, breaking You with Wu and Wei is the same; breaking Si and Wu with Chou brings broad wealth sources, breaking Chen and Mao with You brings good fortune without difficulty.
Tiger and the Horse meet in the Snake's position.
This pattern applies to days born on Xin or Gui, when the chart contains Chou and Yin. Take Yin to刑巳 and Chou to合巳, bringing out the Ji and Wu in巳 as the official stars for Xin and Gui. It is best if there is also You to合 the valuable energy. If there is only刑 without合, the禄 cannot be retained; if the chart contains Shen or巳, it does not fit the pattern. For example, the birth charts of Renxu, Xinhai, Xinchou, Gengyin, Jiaxu, Xinwei, Guichou, and Jiayin all fit the pattern and are prosperous. The poem says: For days born on Xin or Gui, look at the year, month, and hour. If Yin and Chou appear, it is extraordinary. Yin刑巳 and Chou合巳, bringing out the禄 in巳, which forms the foundation for fame and wealth.
A sheep strikes a pig and a snake.
This pattern applies to days of Xinwei and Guiwei: use two or three Wei characters to combine with Hai, then from Hai, the巳 (Si) contains Bing and Wu, which serve as the official stars for Xin and Gui. It is best if the column contains either You or Chou to combine and hold the valuable energy, but it is feared if it is filled, or if there is a conflict or a crime. For example, the birth charts of Jiaxu, Xinwei, Guiwei, Guichou, as well as Gengshen, Guiwei, Xinwei, and Yiwei all fit this pattern and are all indicative of high status. The poem says: this pattern of sheep attacking pig and snake is the strongest; when the day stem meets Xin or Gui and is paired with Wei, it is most appropriate; if the column also contains You or Shen, which combine and hold the official energy without damage, one can enter the court. All these patterns require that the column does not have wealth or official positions; if there are wealth or official positions, they are not considered.
Six Yin facing the Sun
The *Xiji篇* says: For six days of Xin, if the hour is Wuzi, it is disliked if there is Wu position, and the fortune is favorable when traveling in the Western direction. This pattern is based on six days of Xin: Xin takes Bing as its official star and Gui as its longevity star. It is favorable to have Wuzi as the hour—Wu can combine with Gui, and Zi is the place of growth for Xin. Wu's strength is in Si, and Wu generating Xin is considered the official star. Wu is also the son of Bing, and when Bing meets Wu to generate Xin, Bing turns to generate Wu and combines with Xin, thus becoming noble. On such days, Xin receives its official star. The column should only have one Zi, more than one is not good. It is also disliked if there is Wu to clash or Chou to hinder, as this prevents the Yin from facing the Yang. It is also disliked if Bing or Si fills the empty position. Traveling in the Western direction, where metal is strong, is favorable; the Eastern and Northern directions, which are the places of wealth and official stars, are secondary; the Southern direction, which is a dead or dying place, should be avoided. This pattern is suitable for birth in the months of Shen, Chen, Hai, Mao, Wei, or You. If born in the four seasons' months, it is considered according to the official star; if born in the months of Bingwu, Bingyin, or Bingxu, it is considered according to wealth and official star; if born in the months of Jiayin or Yimao, it is considered only according to wealth—overall, the month is the main factor. Traveling fortune is not restricted to the North or South, but it is best if the person's strength is strong. If this pattern is truly formed, it is likely that reputation surpasses wealth, the person is proud, and it may harm the wife and children. If it violates the above taboos, then poverty is the result.
The secret manual says: On a辛 day, at the子 hour, one should avoid moving through fire areas. If one goes to the northwest, it is auspicious, but if one goes to the southeast, there will be misfortune. An ancient song says: On a辛 day encounteringWuzi is called the Morning Sun. In terms of fortune, one favors the western direction, and one's official position will flourish. If the丑, 午, 丙, and 丁 do not appear, one can wear a golden belt and a purple robe to enter the court. It also says: On a辛 day with the birth time atWuzi, the戊 activates the丙 fire as the official for辛; the six yin metals form the Morning Sun pattern, and the foundation for wealth and status is not difficult to attain. TheZi Palace should only have one, but if it connects with the丑 position, the blessings will be limited. If the丙, 丁, 巳, and 午 are not present, moving towards the west is highly beneficial. It also says: The Morning Sun pattern favors the western direction, and moving towards the east is also auspicious; however, one should fear the northern direction as it brings misfortune, and the southern position, which is the fire position, will clash and cause calamity.
Six Yi Rats are Auspicious
The "Xiji Section" says: Yin wood alone encountering the Zi hour is called the place of the Six Yi Rat and Preciousness. Yi uses Zi and Shen as its precious deities, and "single encounter with Zi" means using the rat (Zi) but not the monkey (Shen). Yi uses Geng metal as its official star. When the time is Bingzi, the fire on the Zi branch is remote and returns to the original禄 (favorable position) in Si. Si combines with Shen, and Shen moves the Zi. This is called the Triple Harmony of Shen-Zi-Chen, which is a meeting of preciousness. It means that the Geng metal in Shen comes along with it, and thus the Yi day obtains its official star. If the time is Shen, the official star is clearly revealed, so it is not preferred. If there are many Zis, it is called "gathering preciousness," which is especially good. If there is a Wu in the year or month that conflicts with Zi, or a Chou that hinders it, then Zi cannot remotely combine with the禄 position. If Shen or Geng appears, the official star is clearly revealed; if You or Xin appears, it is a harmful star revealed and injured by Bing, so Zi becomes ineffective. The same applies to the year and the fortune. This pattern requires the month to be in the wood position and the day branch to be in a strong wood position. Water as the印 (nurturing star) is acceptable, but gold and fire should be avoided. If the year or fortune meets Shen or You, it will be dangerous and bring regret. If it goes to the East, it gradually loses strength, and if it goes to the Wu fortune, it will lead to death.
For example, if someone is born on the day of Renyin, Xinhai, Yiwei, and Bingzi, it exactly matches this pattern. However, if the day is Yiyou, the You branch will harm the Zi branch; if the day is Yichou, the Chou branch will interfere with the Zi branch. The Zi branch is most feared when it meets the Mao branch, which causes conflict, or the Chou branch, which interferes. Having multiple Zis is not a problem. If the heavenly stems reveal Xin but Xin is not strong, and there are also Bing and Ding to combine with or control Xin, Bing combines with Xin to form water, and even if the fortune moves in a favorable direction, it will not harm the noble status. For example, if someone is born on Jichou, Bingzi, Yimao, and Bingzi, there are two Zis flanking a Mao; or if someone is born on Dingsi, Renzi, Yichou, and Bingzi, there are two Zis flanking a Chou. Although they commit the aforementioned taboos, they are formed within the auspicious situation of being flanked by noble elements, so they are very prosperous. If born in summer, it is only considered according to the principle of official status; if born in July or August, it indicates poverty and low status. If born in the month of Gengshen and the fortune moves towards the north, it can be considered according to the principle of official status. If born in the months of spring, summer, autumn, or winter and there is a wealth repository, it is favorable to have a water formation, official status, food god, and a fortune moving towards the south. In general, if the month contains strong wealth, official status, or educational elements, it should be considered according to wealth and official status, and the conflict between Wu and Zi should not be considered a disaster.
If the mouse and gold (mouse wealth) pattern is formed, and there is a future combination that connects with the hour of Wu, although there may be some damage, wealth can still be achieved, but only with empty reputation. The "Heart of Divination" says: If the person is born under the hour of Yi (Ethylene) and the pattern of mouse and gold is formed, and if the hour of Wu comes to clash, they will be extremely poor. A poem says: If the person is born at the hour of Bingzi (Bing and Zi), the wood of Yi should not be broken by Wu or harmed by Mao; if the four pillars do not meet Shen, You, or Chou, they will be appointed to an official position at a young age. It also says: For a person born on the day of Yi, if they are born at the hour of Zi, it is called the mouse wealth pattern, which is very special; it is most disliked if the character Wu comes to clash, and the characters Xinyou and Gengshen are also not suitable. It also says: For a person born on the day of Yi, if the hour is Zi, they have both official stars and this pattern; if they are attacked by Gengshen or Xinyou (which are like horses and cattle), they will become beggars.
The day's fortune returns at the hour.
The "Xiji篇" says: When the day stem's wealth is in the hour position and there is no official star, it is called "Qing Yun De Lu" (ascending to the clouds with virtue). This pattern occurs on seven days: Jiayin, Dingwu, Wusi (when the day is Wu and the hour is Si), Jiwu, Gengshen, Renhai, and Guizi. These are all cases where the day stem's wealth is in the hour position. Favorable signs include the day stem sitting in its strength, having a seal star to nourish it, the wealth element appearing in the month, having a damaging star or food god, and having Heavenly Virtue and Monthly Virtue. These indicate great wealth and honor. Unfavorable signs include punishment and clash, Kongwang (void), death and decline, as well as劫财 (robbery wealth) dividing the wealth, 倒食 (reversal food, which is also called枭神) forming a connection, and official stars or evil officials controlling it. Even if these can still be used, they are not pure. The same principle applies to years and months. For example, when the day is Yi and the hour is Jimao, it is a biased wealth element in the hour; when the day is Bing and the hour is Guisi, the official star is revealed; when the day is Xin and the hour is Dingyou, it is a biased official star in the hour. These cannot be considered as the "wealth in the hour" pattern. It is also necessary to examine the overall situation of the four pillars.
If there is an official star in the month or if the heavenly stem reveals wealth and official star, then it is only considered according to wealth and official star. If the hour branch is the禄 (lucky position), and the year, month, and hour branches also have禄, it is called "聚福归禄" or "五行归禄". If the day's禄 is in the hour and the hour's禄 is in the day, it is called "互换禄". If the year's禄 is in the hour and the hour's禄 is in the year, such as Jiashen meeting Gengyin, Yiyou meeting Xinmao, Renwu meeting Dinghai, and Guihai meeting Renzi, these are all indications of great wealth and happiness. If there are multiple禄 positions, such as Jiayin with寅 in the hour and born in the first month, and both wealth and official star are weak, then it is only considered according to 建禄. If the month stem is the same as the day stem and only the hour has禄, it is called "分禄", which is not useful. If each has its own禄, it is not a problem. This pattern has seven rules: the first is "青云得路", such as Wuzi, Jiayin, Yihai, and Jimao, where there is no official star in the column, the body is strong and the structure is complete, and there is also a seal to support it. Although there is a conflict between Zi and Mao, it does not break the structure, so it is considered wealthy.
For example, in the case of Renwu, Gengxu, Renzi, and Xinhai, the body is strong and there is an assistant of the seal, so he passed the Wu Chen examination and became a magistrate in the Ministry of Justice; this case is more appropriate to be considered as a miscellaneous qi pattern, so he passed the examination in Wu Chen year during the Dingchou period, because of the conflict between Chou and Chen, and the confrontation as well. The second is called 'official star sitting on the official position', for example, in the case of Bingshen, Bingshen, Bingshen, and Guisi: Bing takes Gui as the official star, born in the seventh month of metal, with support, and the fortune moves to the northwest, where the official star is strong and flourishing; Bing sitting on Shen originally has no strength, but three Bings support each other, and the impulse of the long life in Yin is activated, Gui official star sits on Si, the useful god is on a noble position, thus achieving both wealth and official position, so he passed the examination at a young age and became a prime minister in his middle age. The third is called 'returning to the official position with two virtues', for example, in the case of Xinhai, Xinmao, Jiayin, and Bingyin: Jiayin sits on Yin, which is a special official position, and gets Bingyin as the food god and the official position, Jiayin is also the monthly virtue; the monthly stem Xinmao is the official star of Jiayin, Xin has no strength in the second month, but the two Jins in Yin combine with the two Xin, leaving two Yins as the official position of Jiayin, the monthly virtue meets the returning official position, thus becoming a hero who serves the country.
The fourth is called "Returning the Official to the Seal," as in the case of Bingxu, Guisi, Wuwu, and Dingsi: there is no official star in the column, and Jia and Ding are the seals of Wu. The禄 of the day and hour are exchanged with each other; Wu, Wu, and Si are all fire elements, which are the seals, and they give birth to the person too strongly. When traveling through the western direction of the food god and official star, it generates wealth. Gui combines with Wu to form the fire element, so the person achieves success at a young age and reaches the rank of third class. The fifth is called "Returning the Official to the Harmful Official," which most fears the presence of an official. As in the case of Renchen, Yisi, Jihai, and Gengwu: Wu sits on Hai, and Hai contains Jia as the official, which is driven away by Si. There is Yi as the harmful official, which is combined with Geng to become true metal harmful official; using Ren as the wealth, the wealth sits in the repository, and the禄 returns to the day. When traveling through the southern direction to strengthen the body and the western direction to strengthen metal, the harmful official removes the seven harmful officials, generates wealth, and becomes useful, thus becoming a noble and solid person of high status. The sixth is called "Returning the Official to the Harmful Official," as in the case of Jiashen, Bingyin, Wushen, and Dingsi: Wu sits on Shen and gains growth, the year's heavenly stem reveals Jia as the harmful official, the harmful official returns the禄 to Yin, but there are two Shens to control it; Wu's禄 returns to the hour's branch, and there is no official to mix with it, so he holds military power and shakes the borders.
The seventh phrase is "Returning the Wealth to the Day's Stem," as in the case of the combinations Jihai, Bingyin, Dingchou, and Bingwu: the day's stem is sitting on the wealth repository, and Bing (丙) comes to take away the wealth, but there is壬water in Hai (亥) to control Bing. Yin (寅) also combines with Hai (亥). When the fortune meets the official star or evil spirit, the twin brother is strong enough to bear the burden. The food god (己土) returns the wealth at the hour, able to control the official star or evil spirit. When the fortune moves to Xu (戌), You (酉), or Shen (申), these are all strong wealth positions, so it is noble. The Yuanli Fu says: returning the wealth and meeting the wealth brings good fortune; even without wealth, returning the wealth still leads to poverty. It also says: when the day's wealth returns to the hour, the four pillars and the years and fortune do not like to meet the official star; if there is punishment and harm, the fortune is reduced by half. A poem says: the day's stem is born with the wealth returning to the hour, no conflict, no punishment, and not falling into Kongwang; the official star or evil spirit does not come, while the wealth and the scholar star are strong, with the injurious star and food god present and the body strong, the wealth can be abundant. Another poem says: for those born in the first heavenly stem, the wealth is in Yin (寅); if the official star comes, the noble status is difficult to achieve; if the body is not strong, it is happy to meet the scholar star to be born; if the wealth is abundant, it is happy to meet the food god; if there is a conflict, disaster will come, and if suddenly attacked, the fortune has no root. The years and fortune follow this principle, leading to noble status and surpassing others.
Arms the Fortune (拱禄) and Arms the Wealth (拱贵)
The "Xiji篇" says: "The patterns of 'arrogating the Lu Spirit' and 'arrogating the Nobleman' become ominous if the empty position they are supposed to be enclosing is filled by a real character."the so-called "arrogating" refers to mutual facing and enclosing, meaning that the earthly branches of the day pillar and the hour pillar enclose the empty position in between. Here, "Lu Spirit" refers to the position of the Lu Spirit of the day stem, which is the officialdom position of the day stem. "Nobleman" refers to the position of the official star, and some interpretations take it to mean "Tianyi Nobleman." There are five combinations for "arrogating the Lu Spirit":Guihai day withGuichou hour,Guichou day withGuihai hour, with亥 and丑 enclosing子, which is the Lu position of癸 water;Dingsi day withDingwei hour,Jiwei day withJisi hour, with巳 and未 enclosing午, which is the Lu position of丁 fire and己 earth;Wuchen day withWuwu hour, with辰 and午 enclosing巳, which is the Lu position of戊 earth. There are also five combinations for "arrogating the Nobleman":Jiashen day withJiaxu hour, enclosing酉;Yiwei day withYiyou hour, enclosing申; the enclosed positions are all the positions of the official star, hence noble. Jiayin day withJiazi hour, enclosing丑;Wushen day withWuwu hour, enclosing未;Xinchou day withXinmao hour, enclosing寅; these three combinations not only enclose the official star and nobleman, but also include "Tianyi Nobleman."
All instances of the "arch" pattern require that the heavenly stems of the day pillar and the hour pillar be the same, and the禄位 (Lu position) and贵位 (noble position) being拱 (supporting) must align with the qi of the month's stem. When the big year (dàyùn) reaches a position where the day's main element is strong and the Lu and noble spirits are in a favorable position, it is considered very good. Encountering the "印绶" (imperial seal), "伤官" (hurt official), "食神" (nourishing spirit), and wealth also brings good fortune. This pattern should avoid "刑" (conflict), "冲" (clash), "破" (break), and "害" (harm). It also should avoid "羊刃" (Yangren) and "七煞" (seven evils), as these can damage the day and hour pillars, causing the noble quality to be lost. Especially dangerous are "填实" (filling up) and "空亡" (void). Just like a vessel, it is better empty than full, as an empty vessel can hold things, while a full one is useless. Therefore, it is preferable to have a virtual support rather than a solid one. A vessel must be intact to hold things; if it is broken, it is useless. Hence, the fear of encountering "空亡" (void). The interpretation of the current year's heavenly stem is the same as that of the big year.
The essay states: Those with strong fortune and high status must come from the pattern of夹禄. For example, if someone is born on aGuichou day and has aGuihai hour, the亥 and丑 bracket the子 position, which is the禄 of癸. Since癸 water is born in autumn and winter, its fortune is deep and powerful, which is true夹禄. Conversely, if someone is born on aWuzi day and has anJiayin hour, although the子 and寅 bracket the丑 which contains a noble spirit, the戊 earth is weakened by the甲 wood. The day's ruler is itself restrained, so how can it hold onto noble fortune? Other examples should be examined in the same way. The "Three Lives" says: Those who have夹禄 and夹贵 must certainly hold a position of high rank. The "Mirror of the World" says: Those who have拱禄 and拱贵, if their pattern is pure, can be compared with kings and dukes; but if they are filled by real characters, they only have empty fame and profit. This pattern requires wealth and official seal, and does not like harmful influences. It fears the appearance of official positions and evils, and also fears falling intoKongwang.
The poem says: The day pillar and hour pillar both enclose the Lu spirit in the middle, like a pearl hidden in the Golden Chest; this pattern is most pure. The person's destiny is extremely noble and high, a gentleman's fate, able to achieve the rank of minister without worry. Another poem says: A noble spirit formed by an empty arch, together with the position of禄, is most important when it is not filled or falls into Kongwang; once there is a clash or punishment, plus the Yangren and seven evils breaking the official star, it will be unable to bear the burden. Another poem says: The pattern of arching禄 and arching noble is originally rare among various patterns; still, one should look back at the monthly branch as the main guideline. If there is another useful god in the monthly branch, then the monthly branch is prioritized; only when the monthly branch has no useful god does one take this arch pattern as a rare pattern for use.
Conflicts with the Official Star (Lü)
This method involves using the concept of "conflict to bring out the luck." For example, if someone has the庚 (geng) metal, its luck is in申 (shen). If the four pillars do not contain申, but they haveGengyin (geng yin) day, and there is another寅 in the year, month, or hour, the two寅 will work together to conflict with申, bringing out the luck of庚. Similarly, if someone has甲 (jia) wood, its luck is in寅. If the four pillars do not contain寅, but they haveJiashen (jia shen) day, and there is another申 in the year, month, or hour, the two申 will work together to conflict with寅, bringing out the luck of甲. This pattern is most dangerous if丙 (bing) fire harms庚 (geng) metal or if庚 (geng) metal harms甲 (jia) wood. It is also dangerous if the luck position is filled by a real character; once filled, it does not indicate high status. Other heavenly stems follow the same principle. Examples such asJisi (jisi), Dingchou (dingchou), Gengyin (geng yin), Wuyin (wu yin), Xinsi (xinsi), Yiwei (yiw ei), Jiashen (jia shen), Renshen (ren shen), Yimao (yi mao), Jiashen (jia shen), Xinmao (xin mao), and the three instances of Xinmao (xin mao) all fit this pattern and indicate high status.
Six Yin follows Gen.
"The Six Rens Tending Toward Gen" refers to a person born on a day of Ren encountering the Jiayin hour. The Yin belongs to the Gen position in the Eight Trigrams, and Yin combines with Hai, thus revealing the hidden wealth of Ren secretly. Therefore, it is also called "Hidden Wealth Pattern." The classic text says, "Visible wealth is not as good as hidden wealth," which refers precisely to this principle. This pattern should avoid the presence of Hai, which would fill the wealth position explicitly. It also fears conflicts, punishments, and destruction. The days of Renyin and Renchen are the purest. If there are many Yins in the four pillars, the person will be very wealthy, because the wood of Jia in Yin is the food god of Ren water, and Jia wood generates Bing fire, which is the wealth star of Ren water. Wealth being strong can generate official stars, thus it is favorable. However, it is disliked if officials and evils harm the day's main element, or if Shen metal and Geng metal damage Jia wood, for if Jia wood is damaged, it cannot generate wealth, which becomes harmful. It is also said that when there are many Yins on a Ren day, it is borrowing the Jia wood in Yin to secretly attract Ji earth as the official star of Ren, and borrowing the Bing fire in Yin to secretly attract Xin metal as the intellectual star of Ren. It fears Wu combining with Yin and Shen conflicting with Yin. It dislikes the explicit appearance of wealth and official stars, and prefers the environment where the main element is strong. The same applies to the analysis of the current year and the big destiny. The mnemonic says: A person with the pattern of Six Rens Tending Toward Gen, if born in the Hai month, will certainly be poor. The "Xiangxin Fu" says: People with the pattern of Six Rens Tending Toward Gen have abundant wisdom and are generous and kind. The "Zhenbao Fu" says: People with the pattern of Six Rens Tending Toward Gen are most remarkable when the wealth and intellectual stars are clearly visible in the heavenly stems. However, if officials and evils invade, they become poor and lowly.
Six Jia approach the Heavenly Stems.
"The phrase 'six Jia days approaching the dry" refers to people born on the six Jia days whose birth time includes the hour of Hai. Hai belongs to the dry position in the Later Heaven Trigrams, which is the location of the heavenly gate and the dwelling place of the Northern Pole. Jia wood relies on it for growth. Hai can also combine with the original禄 (favorable position) of Jia wood in Yin. The reasoning is similar to 'six Ren days approaching Gen'. This pattern should avoid the presence of the character Yin, which would fill the禄 position, and also avoid the character Si, which would harm or conflict with it. It is also said that when a Jia day is accompanied by the hour of Hai, Hai contains Ren water, which is the official (印绶) of Jia wood. Therefore, it is favorable to see Xin metal to generate the official, and unfavorable to see the wealth star (财星). If the four pillars contain Mao to combine with Hai, then Hai cannot combine with the禄 in Yin anymore. If the day's main element is weak and meets Si, You, and Chou to form a metal circle, there will be too much metal deity (金神), and if this is repeated in the big years and destiny years, disaster will occur. The 'Xiangxin Fu' says: people with the pattern 'six Jia days approaching the dry' are benevolent, upright, and have a peaceful heart. The 'Zhenbao Fu' says: for people with the pattern 'six Jia days approaching the dry', it is best if the heavenly stem reveals the official (印绶). Even if the wealth star appears repeatedly, they can attain high official positions. The 'Qilima' says: Ren approaching Gen and Jia approaching the dry are both famous officials in the imperial court. The poem says: the pattern 'six Jia days approaching the dry' is most special; people born on Jia days who have the hour of Hai are the ones who possess it. If the big years and destiny years lead to a prosperous wealth position, lawsuits and misfortunes will come. Looking closely at this poem and the previous fu, one is cautious about wealth and the other is favorable to wealth; my opinion is that if the heavenly stem reveals the official, it is cautious about wealth, but if the day's main element is strong, it is favorable to wealth."
Wealth and Official Star are both auspicious.
The "Ji Shan" states: Those born on six days of Ren (water) sit on the Wu (horse) position, called "Lü Ma Tong Xiang"; those born on days of Gui (water) sit on the Si (snake) position, called "Cai Guan Shuang Mei." Here, "Lü" refers to the official star, and "Ma" refers to the wealth star. The two sentences essentially mean the same thing. For Ren water, the wealth and horse are represented by Ding fire, and the official and Lü are represented by Ji earth, both of which are in the Wu position. For Gui water, the official and Lü are represented by Bing fire and Wu earth, both of which are in the Si position. In a person's destiny, the Lü, Ma, wealth, and official stars are rarely all present together. Moreover, in these two cases, the wealth and official stars are both hidden within the day branch, making the person noble and esteemed.
These two days are favorable as they occur in autumn when metal is strong. In autumn, wood is weak and cannot overcome earth, so the official star is not harmed, hence it is called being free from calamity. If there are strong wood in寅and卯, it would only be elegant but not substantial. If born in winter, water is in charge, and the black tortoise is in power, which can make one noble and powerful. If the four pillars originally have wealth and official stars, and one is born on these two days, it is even more favorable. For example, a birth chart withJichou, Dingmao, Renwu, and Guimao, where the year and month reveal丁fire and己earth, which are the wealth and official stars for壬day, and all converge on the day branch午, which fits this pattern, so the person is highly esteemed. The "Luo Lu Zi" says: Those with禄and马in the same native place will not be in the position of the Three Palaces but will certainly be honored in the Eight Seats. It also says: Often, officials enjoy their salaries, and they are all people with禄and马in the same native place.
The days Jia Xu, Yi Chou, Yi Si, Bing Shen, Ding Chou, Wu Chen, Ji Hai, Geng Yin, Xin Wei, Ren Xu, and Gui Wei also contain hidden wealth stars and official stars in their day branches, and are thus considered as "Lusha Tongxiang" (Lusha meaning wealth and official, Tongxiang meaning harmonious companions). However, the classic texts specifically select Ren Wu and Gui Si, because the wealth and official stars sitting on Ren and Gui are exactly the proper wealth and official stars, while the other days contain either partial or mixed wealth and official stars, which are not pure enough. Following this logic: Jia Xu and Yi Chou days are favorable when born in the month of metal or earth, leading to wealth and honor, but excessive metal energy is harmful, as it may injure the body and drain energy. If the person's fate lacks officials or dignitaries, they will certainly become wealthy. Bing Shen and Ding Chou days are favorable when born in the month of metal or wood, but excessive earth is harmful, as it may form a group and thus destroy the official star, resulting in wealth but not honor. Ji Hai day is favorable when born in the months of Chen, Xu, Chou, or Wei, or when there is another supporting element to assist and generate it, which would be auspicious.
On a day with Gengyin, it is favorable to see fire. It is best when this occurs after the Winter Solstice, when the first yang energy begins to emerge and the fire energy gradually strengthens, indicating a noble destiny. If the metal is strong and the fire is powerful, the metal can be refined into sharp weapons. If a person is born in autumn and encounters fire again, it is even more favorable. Emperor Taizong's birth chart is Bingwu, Gengzi, Renwu, Bingwu. The壬 water day ruler is born in the month of Zi, indicating strong and powerful energy. The year stem丙 fire is stirred by the month branch, with two丙 fires in the same position, which then clash with the hidden Geng gold in the day branch. The Geng gold, having been clashed and controlled, moves away from the丙 fire and takes position in the current day's Wu. The time stem丙 fire is in the month branch Zi, and the壬 water is the child of Geng gold, thus also taking position in the Wu. Through this transformation, the four pillars become Bingwu, Bingzi, Gengwu, Renwu, with all positions showing the presence of禄 and 马, forming the image of water and fire in harmony, known as "Six REN Transformation." Therefore, it indicates great wealth and honor. Generally, a highly esteemed destiny is formed by combining two or three patterns together, being able to adapt and thrive in all directions. It is not considered as conflicting or confused because of the multiple patterns, just as the saying about exploring the source of a river. An old song says: When禄 and 马 are in the same position without conflict or control, and wealth and officialdom are in the same branch, it brings great honor and distinction. The noble aura of the Three Palaces and Eight Seats is truly unique. However, if the force of conflict and control is too strong, fame, reputation, and material gains will be lost.
Day's Noble Influence
The concept of "day nobleman" refers to the day branch being occupied by "Tianyi Nobleman." Only four days meet this condition: Dingyou, Dinghai, Guisi, and Guimao. These people are pure in character, have benevolence and virtue, and are handsome, without being arrogant or conceited. When the noble energy is concentrated in the day pillar, and is further assisted by wealth stars, food stars, and official stars, this noble energy transforms into good fortune. This pattern favors triple harmony, six harmony, and compatibility with the ancestral home and tomb. When the person's fortune reaches the nobleman's territory and the wealth is strong, good fortune will manifest. It is most unfavorable to have conflicts, clashes, destruction, harm, and kongwang. If theseHostile God (hostile gods) are encountered again during the fortune journey, and the year's master also joins in, especially if "Kui Gang" (a term for a certain type of auspicious or inauspicious combination) is present, it will certainly lead to poverty, low status, and a short life. If another pattern is formed, this should not be considered. The "day nobleman" also distinguishes between day and night birth: those born in the day should have Guimao or Dinghai, while those born at night should have Guisi or Dingyou. If the day and night selection is incorrect, it is not considered proper. The classic texts say: "Nobleman" is a title of kindness and joy, and a name of respected virtue. When encountering wealth, official positions, official stars, and food stars, it is auspicious. When encountering seven evils, Yangren (a term for a certain type of inauspicious combination), and conflicts, it is inauspicious. If the fortune journey again encounters "Kui Gang," the harm will be severe.
Ancient songs say: When the day stem is seated on the branch of a nobleman, if it also meets the "Kui Gang," then the fortune is incomplete; encountering the month builder's禄 on the year is not considered auspicious, but only when the day nobleman appears again is it a rare and extraordinary fortune. Another song says: The "Ri De" and "Ri Gui" patterns indicate a person with a kind nature, and if they also meet wealth, official position, and the seal, then prosperity, honor, and success will follow; but once punishments, clashes, the seven evils, or the Yang Ren appear, the good turns bad, and the person cannot withstand the consequences. Another song says: For a癸 day, sitting on巳 or卯 indicates an extraordinary destiny; similarly, for a丁 day, sitting on亥 or酉 follows the same pattern; one must avoid encountering "Kui Gang," and distinguish between day and night in choosing the appropriate elements; one must also guard against punishments and harms that disrupt the order of hierarchy; when the destiny moves to a place of harmony and meeting, fame will surely rise, but if the destiny includes Kongwang, then misfortune follows closely; only by upholding thick virtue to match this honor can one avoid violating the various ominous warnings mentioned earlier.
Daily Virtue
This pattern only includes five days: Jiayin, Bingchen, Wuchen, Gengchen, and Renxu, which are selected from the five yang heavenly stems: Jia, Bing, Wu, Geng, and Ren. Jia sitting on Yin is in the position of officialdom and receives a salary, Bing sitting on Chen is the official star entering the warehouse, Geng sitting on Chen has both wealth and official rank, and Ren sitting on Xu has all three marvels present. Yin is the first of the three yangs, and Chen and Xu are the places where Heavenly Gang and River Chief reside. These groups of heavenly stems and earthly branches are different from other positions, so they are called "day virtue." People who conform to day virtue are kind-hearted, have a robust appearance, and have compassion for the poor and respect for the elderly. They do not have malicious or cruel intentions. When facing misfortune, they receive help, and when encountering difficulties, they can find solutions. They are unlikely to suffer from sudden misfortunes and will certainly have abundant blessings. The text says, "People with day virtue have good hearts and are steady, kind, and sincere in their actions," which refers to this. When their fortune moves to a place where their own strength is strong, it is most extraordinary. If their strong fortune has already declined, and they move to a place of Heavenly Gang and River Chief, they will surely die. Some people have not yet received their blessings, even though their pattern is good, but when their fortune reaches Heavenly Gang and River Chief, they will face calamities. Once they escape from this period, they can rise again, but their strength will always be weak. This pattern is best when there is only one occurrence, and then it is favorable to see wealth and official rank. If day virtue appears multiple times, it is not suitable to see wealth and official rank again. As for punishments and clashes, broken relationships, harm, empty loss, and the combination of Heavenly Gang and River Chief, they are all major taboos.
The poem says: Renxu and Gengchen are days with virtue and official power. Outside of Jiayin, the Wu and Bing stems need to be seated on Chen, which means riding on the back of a dragon. When the fortune moves to a place where the self is strong, the person's heart is kind and charitable, and if the day virtue is abundant, natural blessings will be rich. Another poem says: Day virtue does not like to meet "Kui Gang", once it meets, it turns into a凶sah, which is very hard to bear. In the destiny chart, if day virtue appears repeatedly, it is originally still auspicious, but when the fortune moves to Kui Gang, the blessings will not be prosperous. Another poem says: If day virtue is repeated, it can avoid calamities. If there is an official star, it is not good to go to the wealth place again. As long as it is not broken by conflict and does not fall into Kongwang, it can be considered as a pillar of the court. Another poem says: Day virtue with bad stars prefers a strong day ruler, but does not like wealth stars and strong official places. Such people are gentle in nature and even more charitable, and their whole life will have especially good fortune and longevity.
For example, Zhang Zhu, who once served as a deputy director of the Salt Transport Office, had a birth chart of Jiashen, Wuchen, Wuchen, Renxu. The day stem was seated on Wuchen, which was exactly the day virtue. He rose from the position of a scholar official to hold a golden belt and purple robe, and was granted a fifth rank official title. This is exactly this pattern. Another case was Gengchen, Jimao, Wuchen, Jiayin. Gengchen, Wuchen, and Jiayin all formed three day virtues, and should be judged according to this pattern. However, the Jiayin column is most忌 to meet Gengchen. His fortune also led him into the Renwu wealth area, where the fire in the wealth area was the Yang Blade, which all violated the prohibitions of the day virtue. In the Dingsi year, the寅 and巳 columns clashed, and he died in April, at the age of thirty-eight. This person had a heavy personality, could not be described as charitable, and was long plagued by illness.
Kui Gang
This category includes four days: Gengchen, Renchen, Wuxu, and Gengxu. Chen is the Heavenly Gang and Xu is the River Chief, both belonging to the yin and yang extinction places, hence the name. However, the Jia stem is excluded because Jia is the first among the ten stems. When Jia is on Chen, it is the Azure Dragon, and when on Xu, it is the禄堂, which brings good fortune without any misfortune. This category requires the day positions to repeat and the added characters to be numerous, so that they can suppress and control effectively. The classic text says: "The gathering of the Heavenly Gang and River Chief brings extraordinary blessings; such people are intelligent, excellent in literature, decisive in matters, and wield power with a tendency towards warfare." The essay states, "The nature of the Heavenly Gang and River Chief is severe yet principled, and they are intelligent," which refers to this meaning.
When one's fortune moves to a place where the day stem is strong, there are many paths for prosperity; but once the wealth star or official star appears, calamity comes immediately, and if there are also punishments and evils, the situation becomes even worse. If the Qiu Gang (a type of star) is only present in the day column alone, and is further afflicted by conflicts, clashes, and controls, then it is definitely a fate of a petty person, with continuous punishments and penalties, and when poor, it will be extremely destitute. When the fortune moves to a place where wealth and official stars are strong, one must also be cautious of sudden misfortunes. If the month stem contains wealth, official, and official seal stars, and the Qiu Gang is only present in the day column, then directly use the wealth, official, official seal, and food stars for calculation. Even if there is some damage, as long as these stars are properly positioned, there will not be great harm. One must always consider the main theme of the month stem, and use what is appropriate, without being stuck on minor details.
It is also said that on Gengxu and Gengchen days, if a person's fate does not have official stars, but the Qiu Gang stars are repeated and harmonious with each other, they will have great wealth surpassing fame. However, as soon as there is a wealth star, the pattern is ruined. If in the big year or destiny path one moves to a place where wealth is strong, the calamities become unpredictable. A person born on Gengchen day in September, although there is a conflict between Chen and Xu, if their destiny path moves to the southern direction and there is fire in the four pillars, they can still be considered a noble destiny. A person born on Gengxu day in March, even if there is official star and official seal, they cannot be used, because Geng metal uses the Ding fire in Xu as the official star and the Wu earth as the official seal. The Ji water in Chen is the injurious star of Geng, which both harms the official star and drains the energy of Geng metal, so the pattern is ruined.
On a Wuxu day, if there is no wealth star, one does not achieve prominence, and it is also not suitable to see the official star; however, if the Heavenly Gang and the Earthly魁 are repeated and harmonious with each other, then both wealth and status can be achieved. On a Renchen day, one fears seeing wealth and official stars, and most prefers the印绶, also preferring combinations that can remove the wealth star and control the seven evils. The interpretation for the flow year and big destiny is the same. It is also said that Chen is a water reservoir and belongs to the Heavenly Gang; Xu is a fire reservoir and belongs to the Earthly魁; when Chen and Xu appear together, it is called 'Heavenly Impact and Earthly Strike'. The 'General Overview of Zi Ping' says: when the day's main element encounters the Heavenly Gang and Earthly魁, if it is weak, it will be extremely poor and cold; if it is strong, it will achieve unparalleled prestige.
The poem says: Nenchén, Gengxu, Gengchen, and Wuxu together form the four positions of Kuigang divine stars; as long as there are no wealth or official stars or criminal stars mixed in, and the day master proceeds to a strong position, his noble status will surpass his peers. Another poem says: the four days of Kuigang are most important; when they meet repeatedly, one can hold great power; Gengxu and Gengchen fear the exposure of official stars, while Wuxu and Nenchén fear the continuous appearance of wealth stars. Another poem says: in the four pillars, days with Kuigang often show similarity, and noble status comes precisely from here; but if the day master is alone and faces many clashes and controls, and wealth and official stars are exposed, calamities will be endless. According to this pattern, all take the branches Chen and Xu, the difference being only in the heavenly stems; among them, Gengchen is called both Ridé and Kuigang, and the methods of the two patterns are completely different, so there is no need to force a rigid interpretation. For example, the birth chart of official Zhang Shi is Gengwu, Dinghai, Wuxu, Bingchen, and the birth chart of official Liu Daxiu is Dinghai, Guichou, Gengxu, Wuyin; although these two charts are days of Kuigang, in reality they only use wealth, official, and seal stars for their analysis.
Fortune Virtue is refined and delicate.
This section specifically examines the situation when the three branches of巳, 酉, and 丑 form a metal trinity, and then determines the day stem. For example, on days of Yisi, Yiyou, and Yichou, the 乙 wood takes 金 as its "seven evils," so it is favorable to have the印绶 to transform the evil, and also favorable to have the food and injury to control it. It is not favorable to be born in June when 未 is present, because 未 is the wood warehouse, and 乙 wood sitting on its tomb is further confronted by strong 金, which can then harm the wood. It is also not favorable to be born in August, as the evil energy reappears. When the person's fortune moves to the land of the印绶 and the official strength, they can achieve blessings. For days of 丁巳, 丁酉, and 丁丑, the 丁 fire takes 壬 water as its official, and it is favorable to have strong 金 to generate water. However, it is not favorable to be born in August, as fire is dead and exhausted in August, leading to many delays in achieving fame and success. It is also not favorable to be born in November, as the癸 water in November becomes the seven evils of 丁, and the lifespan is not strong enough. In the four pillars, it is favorable to see the wealth star and official star, and if they are in their strong positions, it indicates nobility. When the person's fortune moves to the land of the official strength, they can achieve blessings.
On the days of Jisi, Jiyou, and Jichou, the earth element Ji is governed by the wood element Jia as its official star. However, the metal triad of Si, You, and Chou constantly harms the Jia wood official star, which is referred to as 'stealing qi'. How can this be considered auspicious? Actually, it is not. Metal can generate water, and water is the wealth for Ji earth. Therefore, it is favorable to have a fortune in water, leading to success. In the four pillars, one should not see Bing or Ding or the fire triad of Yin, Wu, and Xu, as these would damage the metal triad. Also, there should be no punishments, clashes, breaks, or harm. It is also not favorable to be born in the fourth month when fire is strong, as the qi is shallow and the person's establishment is late, leading to many failures and loneliness throughout life. On the days of Guisi, Guiyou, and Guichou, the metal god is used as the official star. The metal triad of Si, You, and Chou can generate the water element Gui. Therefore, it is favorable to be born in autumn and winter. It is also not favorable to be born in the fourth month, as water is at its end in Si, but metal is in its growth phase in Si, so metal can generate water, and water does not truly reach its end. When the official star and the official star's fortune come, blessings can be realized. However, it is still unfavorable for fire wealth to harm the metal. On the days of Xinsi, Xinyou, and Xinchou, having a complete metal triad in the four pillars is most favorable. If fire elements like Wu and Xu are strong and break the triad, it can lead to disaster. If there is strong Bing fire, that is the official star for Xin metal, or if there is the position of Yin and the 'Tianyi Nobleman' is present, these are all favorable. The interpretation of the current year's heavenly stem and the big destiny is the same.
An old song says: Yin wood on the Yi day, when seated on the branches You, Chou, and Si, if born in June, can only sigh in sorrow; even if he holds office and gains wealth, it will not last long, and even if he has literary talent, it is not worth boasting. Another song says: On the days Yi Si, Yi You, and Yi Chou, if born in August, his life is short; if the four pillars again meet fire to form the official star, he will certainly lose his position and office. Another song says: Yin fire on the Ding day, when seated on the branches You, Chou, and Si, if born in the month of Chou, his lifespan is short, and with many ups and downs in fame and fortune, he will find it hard to bear failure and indulgence. Another song says: On the days Ding Si, Ding You, and Ding Chou, if born in August, his life will not be long, and both his prospects and fame will be bleak; he should especially avoid drinking too much and associating with improper friends.
Another verse says: When the Yin Earth day (己) meets the branches巳, 酉, and 丑, it is called "Fortune Virtue," and is known as the mythical beast Pi Xiu; if this refined quality is invaded and destroyed by fire, fame and fortune will come to an end all at once. Another verse says: On the days of Jisi, Jiyou, and Jichou, there is naturally a good fortune and refined quality, but it is most afraid of fire in the four pillars invading and disrupting it; even if one attains official rank, it will not last long. Another verse says: When the Yin Metal day (辛) forms a metal trinity, it indicates a promising future, with a rare and extraordinary destiny and a special affection; once fire in the four pillars invades and disrupts the trinity, both fame and fortune will fail. Another verse says: When the Western Metal energy is seated beneath the Yin Soft day (辛), it is not afraid of rest or captivity, but rather it thrives when the ghostly evils are active, and one can gradually achieve official rank and reach the island of Yingzhou. Another verse says: Those born onGuisi or Guiyou, if the month is of wind wood, all affairs will be delayed, and efforts will be in vain, with fame and fortune naturally difficult to expect, thus understanding that people are ultimately bound by the Five Phases. Another verse says: Those born onGuisi, Guiyou, and Guichou, if born in the fourth month, will not last long, and the success or failure of official rank will only be clear in old age, and it is most dangerous to indulge in women and alcohol.
