On the Xinsi day, the solar eclipse in the Gengyin year was accurately predicted.

In the seventh year of the Shunzhi era (Gengyin year), on the tenth month, on the first day of the lunar month which was also the new moon, at the time of Jiawu, an eclipse of the sun occurred. ZHUANG Gong Yuan cast a divination lesson to determine what omen this solar eclipse would indicate. This example is from the "Six壬 Guide."

This divination chart places the heavenly generals on both sides of the branches on the heaven plate. Reading them out: on寅 is "Gou Chen", on卯 is "Liu He", on辰 is "Zhu Que", on巳 is "Teng Snake", on午 is "Nobleman", on未 is "Heavenly Empress", on申 is "Tai Yin", on酉 is "Xuan Wu", on戌 is "Tai Chang", on亥 is "Bai Hu" ("Bai" refers to Bai Hu), on子 is "Tian Kong", on丑 is "Qing Long" — the nobleman starts at午 and the twelve generals move in reverse order. The heaven plate advances nine positions relative to the earth plate. The four lessons are arranged from right to left: the first lesson is 未 added with 辛 (辛 is寄托 in 戌, and 戌 position receives 未), the second lesson is 辰 added with 未, the third lesson is 寅 added with 巳 (巳 is the day branch), the fourth lesson is 亥 added with 寅; the heavenly generals on the four lessons are: on亥 is Bai Hu, on寅 is Gou Chen, on辰 is Zhu Que, on未 is Heavenly Empress. The three transmissions only indicate the six relations and heavenly generals without noting the concealed stems: the first transmission is 寅, representing wife's wealth, riding on Gou Chen; the middle transmission is 亥, representing children, riding on Bai Hu; the final transmission is 申, representing brothers, riding on Tai Yin.
Zhuang Gong Yuan said: This year's Tai Suo Yin is exactly the 'You Du' in the Bing day and Xin day, which only falls on Gong Cao Yin. Therefore, Yin is the You Du. It is located on the巳 ground ruled by the constellations Yi and Zhen, and it initiates the transmission. It also rides on Gou Chen, is covered with punishment, and carries凶煞. It can be concluded that there will be warfare in the area of Chu. Injuries from bows, arrows, and bullets are inevitable, and worries and fears will certainly be profound. The middle transmission is on Hai, which rides on Bai Hu and carries the post-horse, and it is located in the branch position. Its hidden spirit also clashes and controls the day branch. The final transmission is on Shen, which carries Tai Yin's knife. Shen is exactly the year's Suo, which is the year's breaking point. It turns back to clash and control the Tai Suo Yin. Fortunately, Shen falls in the ten-thousand period's void, so this plot will ultimately fail.
In addition, in the divination, the four images of "River Covering Well," "Black Tortoise Entering the Hole," "White Tiger Emerging from the Forest," and "White Tiger Riding the Year" are all present. When the Heaven Plate's Chen is placed over the Earth Plate's Wei, it is called "River Covering Well." When the Black Tortoise rides on You and is placed over the Earth Plate's Zi, it is called "Black Tortoise Entering the Hole." When the White Tiger rides on Hai and is placed over the Earth Plate's Yin, it is called "White Tiger Emerging from the Forest." The Yin that the White Tiger is placed on is exactly the Year Pillar, so it is called "White Tiger Riding the Year." This definitely indicates a lot of wind and waterlogging disasters. Unfortunately, the Thunder God and Thunder Harm also appear at the same time, forming a "Disease Embryo," preventing the convergence of heaven and earth energies. This is a sign that the people will suffer from many diseases. The next day there was a great thunderstorm, and the following year there was a flood disaster. The other divinations I made also came true.
On Xinsi day, in the ninth month, divination about family matters.

On the 26th day of the 9th month, using the卯 (Mao) as the general and starting the divination at the午 (Wu) hour, the divination was cast to inquire about family matters. This example is from Guo's "Divination Verification."

The divination chart is the same as the one used by Li Duiwei in his case of predicting the whereabouts of a thief. The Nobleman is positioned on Wu, and the Twelve Heavenly Generals are arranged in reverse order. On Wu is the Nobleman, on Si is the Teng Snake, on Chen is the Vermilion Bird, on Mao is Liu He, on Yin is Gou Chen, on Chou is Qing Long, on Zi is Tian Kong, on You is Bai Hu, on Xu is Tai Chang, on Shen is Tai Yin, on Wei is Tian Hou. The Four Lessons are arranged from right to left as Wu with Xin, Yin with Wu, Chou with Si, You with Chou. The heavenly generals above each lesson are: on You is Bai Hu, on Chou is Qing Long, on Yin is Gou Chen, on Wu is Nobleman. The Three Transmissions are Wu (Renwu, official ghost, riding Nobleman), Yin (Wuyin, wife wealth, riding Gou Chen), and Xu (Jia Xu, parents, riding Tai Chang). Yin, Wu, and Xu form a fire triad, making this a fiery lesson.

Guo Yuqing said: There is a man named Wang Zaiwen in our state who followed Zhang Zhenming, a scholar, to the capital city and stayed there for a long time. He missed his family and asked me to divinate about his home affairs. At that time, Wu Yu lão predicted: In this divination, death qi is on the residential line and serves as the initiating transmission, and it coincides with the month aversion. There will be death in the family. I was very impressed by his interpretation; within two days, a letter from the Wang family arrived — both of his young sons had died.
On Xinsi day, in the tenth month, divination for seeking wealth.
On the 18th day of the tenth month, using the寅 (Tiger) as the general and adding the巳 (Snake) hour to start the divination, the subject sought to inquire about wealth. This example is from the "Zhi Gui Ling Wen Lun."

Heavenly and Earthly Plates: The Nobleman starts at午 and the Twelve Heavenly Generals move in reverse order — 午 has 'Nobleman', 巳 has 'Teng Snake', 辰 has 'Vermilion Bird', 卯 has 'Liu He', 寅 has 'Gou Chen', 丑 has 'Azure Dragon', 子 has 'Tian Kong', 亥 has 'White Tiger', 戌 has 'Tai Chang', 酉 has 'Black Tortoise', 申 has 'Tai Yin', 未 has 'Heavenly Empress'. The Heaven Plate advances nine positions ahead of the Earth Plate, which matches the situation of 寅 general added to the巳 hour. The Four Lessons are arranged from right to left: the first lesson is 未 added to 辛, the second lesson is 辰 added to 未, the third lesson is 寅 added to 巳, and the fourth lesson is 亥 added to 寅; the upper gods and Heavenly Generals are respectively White Tiger on 亥, Gou Chen on 寅, Vermilion Bird on 辰, and Heavenly Empress on 未. The Three Transmissions: the first transmission is 寅 (戊寅, wife's wealth, riding on 勾陈), the middle transmission is 亥 (乙亥, son's offspring, riding on 白虎), and the final transmission is 申 (brother, riding on 太阴, marked with '◎' indicating it falls into the empty旬).
Divination interpretation: Yin is the wealth god on the Xin day, and it acts as the initiating transmission when placed on Si. Yin and Si mutually harm and conflict with each other, while the fire of Si turns back to harm the metal of Xin. Therefore, the path to seek wealth is long and distant, encountering obstacles and hardships along the way, with fear in the heart but ultimately failing to obtain it.
On the day of Xinsi, in the year of Jisi of the Qianlong era, Wang Zhouzun divined about his future prospects.

In the 12th month of the Jisi year of the Qianlong era, on the Xinsi day, the divination was cast using the Chou general added to the Yin hour. Wang Zhouzun from Taizhou divined his own future. This example is from Wang Mufu's "Divination Verification."

Heavenly and Earthly Plates: The Nobleman starts at午 and the Twelve Heavenly Generals move in reverse.午 has 「Nobleman」,巳 has 「Teng Snake」,辰 has 「Vermilion Bird」,卯 has 「Liu He」,寅 has 「Gou Chen」,丑 has 「Azure Dragon」,子 has 「Tian Kong」,亥 has 「White Tiger」,戌 has 「Tai Chang」,酉 has 「Black Tortoise」,申 has 「Tai Yin」,未 has 「Heavenly Empress」. The Heaven Plate is one position behind the Earth Plate, which matches the situation of the general 丑 added to the hour of寅. The Four Lessons are arranged from right to left: the first lesson has酉 added to 辛 (辛 is located in戌, so it is on戌), the second lesson has申 added to 酉, the third lesson has辰 added to巳 (巳 is the day branch), and the fourth lesson has卯 added to辰. The heavenly generals in sequence are:Liu He on卯,Vermilion Bird on辰,Tai Yin on申,Black Tortoise on酉. The Three Transmissions: the first transmission is卯 (己卯, wife's wealth, riding六合), the middle transmission is寅 (戊寅, wife's wealth, riding勾陈), the final transmission is丑 (丁丑, parents, riding青龙).卯,寅,丑 each move back one position, forming a 「retreating meal」 lesson.
Wang Mufu said: The stem of the day's heavenly stem itself is most忌 to fall into kongwang, especially since in the twelfth month the qi of metal is cold and condensed, and the qi of the stem can no longer revive. The three transmissions are also retreating, continuing to go backward; the final transmission enters the storage, and only the azure dragon is白白 falling into it, ultimately unable to end peacefully. The meaning of storage is 'stop', and chou is precisely the territory of Yangzhou - he must have stopped at Yangzhou. A few months later, this Wang state master indeed died in his residence in Yangzhou.
On the day of Xinsi and the year of Wuchen, the younger brother asks whether the elder brother will come.
In the year of Wuchen, month of Hai, day of Xinsi, using the卯 (Mao) as the general and starting the divination at the hour of Chen, there were two people who were acting as the younger brother to divinate whether the elder brother would come. This example is from Wang Mufu's "Zhanyan."

The lesson is the same as the previous one: the Nobleman is on the horse (Wu), the Teng Snake on the snake (Si), the Vermilion Bird on the dragon (Chen), the Liu He on the rabbit (Mao), the Gou Chen on the tiger (Yin), the Azure Dragon on the ox (Chou), the Tian Kong on the rat (Zi), the White Tiger on the pig (Hai), the Tai Chang on the dog (Xu), the Black Tortoise on the rooster (You), the Tai Yin on the monkey (Shen), and the Heavenly Empress on the goat (Wei). The Nobleman starts on the horse (Wu) and the twelve generals move in reverse order. The four lessons, from right to left, are the rooster (You) added to the metal (Xin), the monkey (Shen) added to the rooster (You), the dragon (Chen) added to the snake (Si), and the rabbit (Mao) added to the dragon (Chen). The heavenly generals above are the Liu He on the rabbit (Mao), the Vermilion Bird on the dragon (Chen), the Tai Yin on the monkey (Shen), and the Black Tortoise on the rooster (You). The three transmissions are the rabbit (Mao) with the Jia Mao (wife's wealth), the tiger (Yin) with the Wu Yin (parents), and the ox (Chou) with the Ding Chou (parents), making it a retreat and consumption lesson.
Wang Mufu said: The person we were hoping to see will not come again, so it would be better to make other arrangements. The younger brother divined about the elder brother. The day stem's deity is You, which is the same as Xin metal, and this is exactly the category of brothers. Although You is a strong and prosperous position, it carries the凶煞 Xuanwu, which signifies loss and reduction, and it is seated on the position of wealth, which is fixed and unmoving, making it difficult to expect him to move. Although the day branch's deity Chen is accompanied by Zhuque, which signifies messages and documents, it is also unreliable. Chou is the territory of Yangzhou, and the three transmissions start from Mao and gradually retreat into the metal's tomb, and metal is most afraid of entering the tomb, so he will not come. Mao is accompanied by Liuhe, which is exactly the category of brothers, and now it gradually retreats to the tomb; the tomb signifies delay, how could he arrive immediately? Moreover, the middle transmission Yin and the final transmission Chou are both in Gen direction, which means 'stop'. The final transmission is also the foot of the person, which has already entered the tomb and signifies stopping, so it is even more difficult for him to come. The two people did not believe my words. After I divined, I waited for two years, and the elder brother never came — the reliability of numbers has reached this point.
On the Xinsi day of the Jiyou year, Zhao Gong divined for his son's examination at the National Academy.
In the year Jiyou, during the first lunar month, on the day Xinsi, the divination was started with the hour Zi added to Hai. At that time, the beginning of spring had not yet arrived (the original text says 'not yet reached the beginning of spring in You', the character 'You' is likely a redundant addition). Master Zhao predicted the examination results of his son. The young man was born in the year Wuzi, at the age of twenty-two, on the thirteenth day of the first lunar month at the hour You. This case is found in the Song edition of 'Shao Yanhe's Divination Cases', 'Liuren Koujian', and the Fang edition of 'Divination Cases'.

Heavenly and Earthly Plates: The Nobleman starts at寅 (the night Nobleman on辛 day), and the Twelve Heavenly Generals proceed in order—寅 has 'Nobleman',卯 has 'Teng Snake',辰 has 'Vermilion Bird',巳 has 'Liu He',午 has 'Gou Chen',未 has 'Azure Dragon',申 has 'Tian Kong',酉 has 'White Tiger',戌 has 'Tai Chang',亥 has 'Black Tortoise',子 has 'Tai Yin', and丑 has 'Heavenly Empress'. The Heaven Plate is one position ahead of the Earth Plate, which matches the situation where the general of Zi is added to the hour of Hai. The Four Lessons are arranged from right to left: the first lesson is Hai added to辛 (辛 is located on戌, so Hai is on戌), the second lesson is Zi added to Hai, the third lesson is Wu added to Si (Si is the day branch), and the fourth lesson is Wei added to Wu; the upper gods and Heavenly Generals are sequentially: on Wei is Azure Dragon, on Wu is Gou Chen, on Zi is Tai Yin, and on Hai is Black Tortoise. The Three Transmissions: the first transmission is Wu (Renwu, official ghost, riding Gou Chen), the middle transmission is Wei (Guiwei, parents, riding Azure Dragon), and the final transmission is Shen (brother, riding Tian Kong, marked with '◎' indicating it falls into the empty period). Wu, Wei, and Shen proceed in sequence, forming a 'Lian Ru' course.
Shao Yanhe said: This lesson indicates that this person suffers from a condition of seminal leakage or frequent urination, along with hand and foot weakness and general physical exhaustion. The months of February and March are the time when his illness will manifest, and it will only subside in the fourth month. The official star is located at the position of the kitchen stove, indicating that he will eventually enter the heavenly kitchen and enjoy official benefits. He will certainly pass the examination this year, as the official star is aligned with the night nobleman. He will pass the examination in the Guichou year, as the nobleman's寅 is placed on the earth plate's丑. However, it is feared that he will not be able to enjoy this fortune, and his lifespan will end at the age of thirty-five.
Zhang's son has been suffering from nocturnal emissions since he was nineteen. Zhang, fearing that he would not have sexual relations, assigned a servant girl to accompany him. Indeed, he passed the local examination in the year Gui Chou, was appointed as a county magistrate in Hezhou, and later in Dingsi was appointed as a judicial officer in Shaowu. In Jiwei he suffered the loss of his father, and after completing his mourning period he was appointed as a county magistrate in Xinyu. He died on the twelfth day of the tenth month in the year Gui Hai. The reason for his fate is as follows: In the year Hai, during the month Hai, the Hai trigram was placed on the day stem Xin and was accompanied by the Black Tortoise. One metal was used to generate two waters, and since water represents the kidney, it naturally led to leakage. However, the final transmission fell on Kongwang, and on top of Kongwang came Tian Kong, so although he obtained official positions, they were all in vain. The number of Shen is seven and the number of Wei is eight, but when they fall on Kongwang, they are halved. He was all his life plagued by water, so he finally died in the month Hai of the year Gui Hai.
On the Xinsi day and Wushen year, Master Zhao Nianyi predicted the future academic prospects of his grandson before he began his studies.
In the year of Wushen, the 11th lunar month, on the day of Xinsi, using the寅 (Tiger) as the general and starting the calculation with the丑 (Ox) hour, Master Shao Nianyi, born in the year of Guisi, divined the future of his grandson's studies. This grandson was born in the year of Dinghai and was twenty-two years old. This case is recorded in the Fang edition of "Zhan An," but it is not included in the "Liu Ren Kou Jian."

The divination board is the same as in the previous example of Zhao Gong's divination (the same configuration of the寅 general added to the丑 hour and the子 general added to the亥 hour, both representing the Heaven Plate advancing by one position). The Nobleman starts on寅 and the Twelve Heavenly Generals proceed in order:寅 has the Nobleman,卯 has the Teng Snake,辰 has the Vermilion Bird,巳 has Liu He,午 has Gou Chen,未 has the Azure Dragon,申 has Tian Kong,酉 has the White Tiger,戌 has Tai Chang,亥 has the Black Tortoise,子 has Tai Yin, and丑 has the Heavenly Empress. The Four Lessons are arranged from right to left: the first lesson is亥 added to辛, the second is子 added to亥, the third is午 added to巳, and the fourth is未 added to午. The upper deities and Heavenly Generals are: on未 is the Azure Dragon, on午 is Gou Chen, on子 is Tai Yin, and on亥 is the Black Tortoise. The Three Transmissions: the first transmission is午 (Renwu, official ghost, riding Gou Chen), the middle transmission is未 (Guiwei, parents, riding the Azure Dragon), and the final transmission is申 (brother, riding Tian Kong, falling into the旬空). The three transmissions of午,未, and申 proceed step by step forward, forming a connected transmission lesson.
Shao Yanhe said: In this case, the day stem's heavenly stem is a thief and a leaking energy, and it is accompanied by the Black Tortoise, indicating loss and leakage. The three transmissions start from the dwelling position, with fire generating earth and earth generating metal, but finally fall into Kongwang. Not only is the future not prominent, but there is also a risk of early death. A connected transmission lesson prefers gradual progress and most fears falling into emptiness, so it is predicted that he will not survive four years and will die from kidney disease. Shao Gong's grandson indeed had a thin appearance and suffered from leakage symptoms, and he died in December of the Renzi year.
Xin metal needs to generate Hai water, as well as water ruled by Xuanwu, but it is excessively drained. The first transmission's official ghost, although riding Gou Chen and originally able to control it, is unable to restrain it due to excessive drainage. Cheng Shuxun's case: his year of birth and natal chart are both drained areas, and Hai is precisely his natal chart (his grandson was born in Dinghai). His body could not bear it, so after marrying in Jiyou year, he died of consumption. The final transmission is a kindred brother falling into Kongwang, hence the successive deaths of the Shao family's grandchildren.
Heavenly Stem辛 is overlaid by亥, which causes immediate loss of energy; the official ghost occupies the position of the house, as午 is the noble god of the day but has become the official ghost entering the house position; both the day stem and day branch are involved in self-punishment. Counting from the branch's one yin up to the stem's six yins — Cheng Shuxun's note:午 is one yin and亥 is six yin — the course of events moves only along the yin path, how can it last long? There is no need to ask about official rank or fame. Cheng Shuxun further notes: the three transmissions of this divination are exactly the same as in the case of Zhao Gong's son, but here亥 is the birth stem and also drains the energy of the day stem, making the danger even more severe.
On the day of Xinsi and the year of Jiaxu, divination about pregnancy and childbirth.
In the year Jiaxu, ninth month, on the day Xinsi, using the hour of Chen with the starting method of adding Mao, the divination was made about pregnancy and childbirth. This example is from Wang Mufu's "Zhanyan."

The lesson plate is the same as the previous two (Chen general plus Mao hour also moves the Heaven Plate by one position): Jia is on寅 with Nobleman, Mao has Teng Snake, Chen has Vermilion Bird, Si has Liu He, Wu has Gou Chen, Wei has Azure Dragon, Shen has Tian Kong, You has White Tiger, Xu has Tai Chang, Hai has Black Tortoise, Zi has Tai Yin, Chou has Heavenly Empress. Nobleman starts on寅 and the twelve generals proceed in order. The four lessons from right to left are Hai added to Xin, Zi added to Hai, Wu added to Si, Wei added to Wu. The upper gods and generals are: on Wei is Azure Dragon, on Wu is Gou Chen, on Zi is Tai Yin, on Hai is Black Tortoise. The three transmissions are Wu (Renwu, official ghost, riding Gou Chen), Wei (Guiwei, parents, riding Azure Dragon), Shen (brother, riding Tian Kong, falling into the empty period), which is a connected transmission lesson.
Wang Mufu said: This divination indicates that the child has already been born, and the good news is on its way, arriving by the fourth day. This is a father's divination concerning his child's conception: the day stem shows the presence of the god of descendants, and the character 'zi' (child) combined with 'hai' forms the character 'hai' (child). The first transmission is wu fire which overcomes xin metal, and the day branch represents the mother's position. Wu and hai are in the state of mutual destruction, which signifies the child has already been born. All these signs indicate that the child has already been delivered.
In the three transmissions, the Wu (午) is the Post-horse, and later it is also accompanied by the Azure Dragon, both indicating matters related to documents. The Shen (申) is called 'Chuansong' (传送), which also signifies communication, and the Tian Kong (天空) also governs messages. Shen also rules over roads, so it is determined that messages are on the way. It is said that the messages will arrive on the day of Si (巳), because the final transmission is Jiashen (甲申), and the hidden stem matches, which should correspond to the day of Si or Chou (丑). The course number is Lian Ru (连茹), indicating that more than one message is coming. The person being born is likely a girl, which is pleasant, as there are two yang elements surrounding one yin, and the day stem and day branch are not like and harmonious.
This divination suggests that the person being consulted may suffer from symptoms such as seminal emission and white discharge, along with hemoptysis. This is because one metal element is generating two water elements, and the亥 position is occupied by the Black Tortoise, so the issue lies here. The午 position represents official ghosts, and the strong and prosperous siblings are able to overcome午, while the two water elements at子 and亥 drain the energy, leading to hemoptysis. In general, when divining illness, the Initiating Transmission and Teng Snake govern internal conditions, while the White Tiger governs external conditions. If these signs fall on the Day Stem or Day Branch, the symptoms will manifest in the limbs. This particular discussion does not take into account the White Tiger, so it is not a standard example, but rather a supplementary mention.

This is a set of heavenly generals starting from Mao (day nobleman) and proceeding in order. The four lessons are arranged from right to left: the first lesson is Chou added to Ren (on the position of Hai, which is the lodging palace for Ren day, so Chou is on Hai), the second lesson is Mao added to Chou, the third lesson is Shen added to Wu (Wu is the day branch), and the fourth lesson is Xu added to Shen. However, the heavenly generals noted in the four lessons are Xu with Qing Long, Shen with Liu He, Mao with Tai Yin, and Chou with Tai Chang. The three transmissions also indicate Shen with Liu He, Xu with Qing Long, and Zi with Bai Hu. This set is based on the nobleman starting from Si (night nobleman) and proceeding in order, which does not match the set on the left side of the heavenly and earthly plates. Since the time is You hour, which belongs to the night, the night nobleman should be used, and the interpretation below is based on this set of four lessons and three transmissions, indicating that the heavenly generals on the left side of the heavenly and earthly plates are incorrect. The three transmissions are: the first transmission is Shen (parents, riding Liu He, marked with '◎' indicating it is in the empty position, as the day is Ren Wu, which belongs to the Jia Xu cycle, and the empty position is Shen and You), the second transmission is Xu (Jia Xu, official ghost, riding Qing Long), and the third transmission is Zi (Bing Zi, brother, riding Bai Hu).
Shao Yanhe said: When Liu He is placed on Shen and acts as the initiating transmission on the dwelling position, it indicates moving or rebuilding the house. A new house will be built within six years, because Wu represents the house, and it coincides with the day branch. Shen is the Post-horse, so it indicates moving. It also mainly indicates marrying twice. Xu is placed on Shen and carries the Azure Dragon, indicating that the son will pass the local examination. Zi is placed on Xu and carries the White Tiger, indicating that two young children will die next year. Three years later, there will be a lawsuit over land, and they will win, because Chou is placed on Xu and carries Tai Chang, and Chou represents land. The day stem is Ren, and Tai Chang is placed directly on the day stem, so the class god of land is seen, and thus the land can be obtained.
Wu Jiayun asked: Since Chou is capable of overcoming the day stem, on what basis can we conclude that he will obtain land property? Cheng Shuxun's case: Although Chou is capable of overcoming the day stem, within the ten-day cycle it functions as Ding. For a day stem of Ren water, encountering Ding signifies the movement of wealth. Moreover, Ding and Ren are in mutual combination, hence he can obtain land. As for the fact that Chou overcomes the day stem, it indicates that he must first go through a dispute.
On the day of Renwu, in the year of Jimao of the Qianlong era, divination was performed to inquire whether one would meet an important person and succeed in the meeting.
In the Jia Mao year of the Qianlong era, on the Ren Wu day, the divination was cast with the寅 (Tiger) general added to the戌 (Dog) hour. The person seeking the divination was born in the Ji Shen year and was fifty-six years old. He wished to know if he could meet the Nobleman when paying homage. This example is from Wang Mufu's "Zhan Yan."
Heavenly and Earthly Plates: The Nobleman starts at巳 (the night Nobleman on a壬 day), and the Twelve Heavenly Generals proceed in order—巳 has 'Nobleman',午 has 'Teng Snake',未 has 'Vermilion Bird',申 has 'Liu He',酉 has 'Gou Chen',戌 has 'Azure Dragon',亥 has 'Tian Kong',子 has 'White Tiger',丑 has 'Tai Chang',寅 has 'Black Tortoise',卯 has 'Tai Yin',辰 has 'Heavenly Empress'. The Heaven Plate is four positions ahead of the Earth Plate, which matches the situation of寅 general added to戌 hour. The four lessons are arranged from right to left: the first lesson has卯 added to壬 (壬 is placed on亥, so卯 is on亥), the second lesson has未 added to卯, the third lesson has戌 added to午 (午 is the day branch), and the fourth lesson has寅 added to戌; the upper gods and generals are in order: on寅 is 'Black Tortoise', on戌 is 'Azure Dragon', on未 is 'Vermilion Bird', and on卯 is 'Tai Yin'. The three transmissions: the first transmission is未 (癸未, official ghost, riding Vermilion Bird), the middle transmission is亥 (乙亥, brother, riding Tian Kong), and the final transmission is卯 (己卯, son, riding Tai Yin). The three branches亥,卯,未 form a wood trinity.
Wang Mufu said: You will definitely see him tomorrow, and when you meet, there will be much to say, but you will not get angry, and from then on, you will get along very well. This person went to the official office three times to request an audience, but was not seen. The next day he went again to report, and indeed was summoned. When they met, he was scolded a few words, but there was no anger, and the prediction was very accurate. The reason is that his birth stem and year stem both encountered Kongwang, so he could not be seen before. Now, the day stem and day branch have the卯 and戌 in harmony, and the hidden spirit of the year stem also meets the Nobleman. Tomorrow, it is exactly the third transmission, which is the initiating transmission, and the亥,卯,未 form a wood triad to generate the Nobleman, so he will definitely be seen. The reason for saying there will be much to say is because the transmission of the sixth is occupied by the Vermilion Bird. The reason for saying there will be no anger is because the transmission of the sixth contains Ding, which harmonizes well with the day stem Ren water. The three transmissions belong to wood, which for Ren water is a draining of energy, so the prediction is accurate in these details.
On Renwu day, seventh month divination to understand the intention (lost donkey)
On the 17th day of the seventh month, on a Renwu day, using the巳 (Snake) hour added to the戌 (Dog) time to cast the divination, the question was about what the person who came had in mind. This example is from the "One Character Yulianhuan."
Heavenly and Earthly Plates: The Nobleman starts at the卯 position, with the Twelve Heavenly Generals moving in reverse. At卯 is 'Nobleman', at寅 is 'Teng Snake', at丑 is 'Vermilion Bird', at子 is 'Liu He', at亥 is 'Gou Chen', at戌 is 'Azure Dragon', at酉 is 'Tian Kong', at申 is 'White Tiger', at未 is 'Tai Chang', at午 is 'Black Tortoise', at巳 is 'Tai Yin', and at辰 is 'Heavenly Empress'. The Heaven Plate is seven positions ahead of the Earth Plate, which matches the巳 General added at戌 hour. The Four Lessons are arranged from right to left: the first lesson is午 added to壬 (壬 is located at亥, so午 is at亥 position), the second lesson is丑 added to午, the third lesson is丑 added to午 (午 is the day branch), and the fourth lesson is申 added to丑. The heavenly generals for each lesson are: on申 is 'White Tiger', on丑 is 'Vermilion Bird', on丑 is 'Vermilion Bird', and on午 is 'Black Tortoise'. The Three Transmissions: the first transmission is午 (壬午, wife's wealth, riding on 'Black Tortoise'), the middle transmission is丑 (丁丑, official ghost, riding on 'Vermilion Bird'), and the final transmission is申 (parents, riding on 'White Tiger', marked with '◎' indicating it is in the empty旬). This lesson shows complete consistency between the Heaven and Earth Plates and the Four Lessons and Three Transmissions.
Xu Cibin said: The person asked about losing a donkey. This donkey is thirteen li away in the northwest, being herded by a man surnamed Jia. On the day Jiawu, he will get the news at the cattle market and go to Jia's place to bring the donkey back. On Jiawu day, it indeed happened as predicted. Therefore, the divination is interpreted as follows: At the time of the divination, the hour stem is Wu, which is called 'day break' because the hour stem is in conflict with the day stem. This indicates loss. The trigram Qinglong is also present. The initiating transmission is Shengguang (Wu fire). The hour Wu is the wife wealth of the day stem. The Xuanwu is also above it. Originally, this would indicate the loss of a horse; however, since Shengguang is weak, it is instead the loss of a donkey. It is not said to be stolen but rather lost, because the wealth is above the day stem and close at hand, so others cannot steal it. Shengguang counts nine, Xuanwu counts four, and the two numbers combined make thirteen, so it is thirteen li.
How do we know it is a person surnamed Jia who is raising livestock? Because the final transmission is "Guijimmen," and the White Tiger is added to Shen. The White Tiger represents the west, giving the character "Xi," and Shen represents the shell, giving the character "Bei." "Xi" and "Bei" combine to form the surname "Jia." How do we know that on the day of the ox (Mao) we receive news of a donkey? Because in the Jiashen decade, Shengguang at Wu is in Kongwang, and it is only filled in the Jiawu decade. Wu is the wife of the day stem, so on the day of Jiawu, the loss is regained, turning sorrow into joy. Yin water generates Shen metal, so he himself goes to bring back the donkey.
