In the year of Bingchen, eighth lunar month, on the day of Jiayin, the Month General is Si (Taiyi), and the divination is cast at the hour of Hai. The person seeking the divination has a birth date of Jisi and is forty-eight years old this year. They are asking about matters related to seeking wealth. This case is found in both "Koujian" and "Fangben Zhan'an," and the interpretation is from Shao Yanhe.

The outer circle of the Heaven Plate, with the twelve Earthly Branches, each carries a Heavenly General: Wei carries 'Nobleman', Shen carries 'Teng Snake', You carries 'Vermilion Bird', Xu carries 'Liu He', Hai carries 'Gou Chen' (written as 'Chen'), Zi carries 'Azure Dragon', Chou carries 'Tian Kong', Yin carries 'White Tiger', Mao carries 'Tai Chang', Chen carries 'Black Tortoise', Si carries 'Tai Yin', and Wu carries 'Heavenly Empress'. The hour of Hai is night, and on a Jia day, the night Nobleman is at Wei. The Nobleman is located at the Earth Plate position Chou, and the generals proceed in order. The general Si is added to the hour of Hai. The Heaven Plate is six positions apart from the Earth Plate, with each branch opposing the other, forming a 'returning echo' situation. The four lessons are arranged from right to left: the first lesson, Jia's lodging palace is at Yin, with Yin having Shen, carrying Teng Snake; the second lesson, Shen has Yin, carrying White Tiger; the third lesson, the day branch Yin has Shen, carrying Teng Snake; the fourth lesson, Shen has Yin, carrying White Tiger. The three transmissions: the first transmission is Yin, with the hidden stem Jia, representing a brother, carrying White Tiger; the middle transmission is Shen, with the hidden stem Geng, representing an official ghost, carrying Teng Snake; the final transmission is Yin, with the hidden stem Jia, representing a brother, carrying White Tiger.

Shao Yanhe said: This is money that must be fought for repeatedly and is very thin. It should be obtained on the day of Wuyin. Looking at the lesson pattern, there is originally no wealth: both the first transmission and the final transmission are brothers in the branch of Yin, and brothers indicate competition and seizure of wealth. Therefore, it is possible to obtain it because the person's birth stem is Jisi, and Yin is considered as 'De' for Jisi, with the fire of Teng Snake suppressing the metal of Shen. In addition, the person's age in the year forty-eight falls on Chou, and the earth of Chou is the wife wealth of the wood of Jia. Therefore, the money is obtained on the day of Jiaxu. (The original text first says 'on the day of Wuyin' and later says 'on the day of Jiaxu', with two different day branches.) This lesson should also be considered in terms of transformed qi: the day stem is Jia, and the birth year is Ji. Jia and Ji combine to form earth, which is the wealth of Jia wood.

On Jiayin day, Guo Yüqing divined the safety and danger of the provincial capital.

In the year of Xinsi (1641), the fourteenth year of the Chongzhen era, on the thirteenth day of the twelfth lunar month, on the day of Jiayin, the Month General was Chou (a great auspicious sign), and the divination was cast at noon. The person seeking the divination was then in Yangwu County, Henan Province, and cast the divination to inquire about the safety of the provincial capital, Kaifeng. "Chongzheng" is another name for "Chongzhen," changed due to taboo avoidance. By the end of this year, the bandits were advancing toward Kaifeng for the second time. This entry comes from the "Ke Jing Ji," and the interpretation was provided by Guo Yuqing.

The outer circle of the Heaven Plate consists of the twelve Earthly Branches, each associated with a Heavenly General: Chou is associated with the Nobleman, Zi with Teng Snake, Hai with Vermilion Bird, Xu with Liu He, You with Gou Chen, Shen with Azure Dragon, Wei with Tian Kong, Wu with White Tiger, Si with Tai Chang, Chen with Black Tortoise, Mao with Tai Yin, and Yin with Heavenly Empress. The noon hour belongs to the day, and on a Jia day, the day's nobleman is Chou. Chou general is placed on the noon hour, and the Heaven Plate moves ahead seven positions relative to the Earth Plate. Therefore, the generals move in reverse order. The four lessons are arranged from right to left: the first lesson has Jia's lodging palace on Yin, with Yin having You, which is associated with Gou Chen; the second lesson has You having Chen, which is associated with Black Tortoise; the third lesson has the day's branch Yin with You, which is associated with Gou Chen; the fourth lesson has You with Chen, which is associated with Black Tortoise. The three transmissions: the first transmission is You, hidden dry branch Xin, representing official ghost, associated with Gou Chen; the middle transmission is Chen, hidden dry branch Bing, representing wife wealth, associated with Black Tortoise; the final transmission is Hai, hidden dry branch Gui, representing parents, associated with Vermilion Bird. The three branches You, Chen, and Hai seen in the lesson and transmission are exactly the branches that are self-punishing.

Guo Yuqing said: The entire chart is full of self-punishment signs. You, carrying theInauspicious Sha of 'fragmentation', also rides on Gou Chen, and injures both the day stem Jia and the day branch Yin completely. Yet it is the initiating transmission god. The most dangerous thing in divining cities is precisely this. The danger has already reached nine parts. Fortunately, the transmissions can generate the final transmission, and the final transmission's亥 water returns to nourish the day stem and day branch, thus there is a rescue in danger. You is placed on the earth plate at the position of Yin, which belongs to the northeast direction, so the injured part is the northeast corner of the city. On the next day, on the Yimao day at the time of巳, because of snow, another divination was done, resulting in a chart where the day stem is covered by the god Zi, which is added by Yi. This is exactly White Tiger riding on the tomb god as the initiating transmission. Tomb also symbolizes digging into the city and making pits. Similarly, thanks to the final transmission's亥 water nourishing the stem and branch, life qi is revived from the tomb, which is first confused and then clear, also considered as a rescue in danger.

In the two lessons, the "you du" both fell into kongwang; they would not be filled until the beginning of the jiazi shen. Even the saving deity, the water of hai, also fell into kongwang. Therefore, I predicted beforehand that the enemy troops would arrive on the twenty-third day. When the lesson was cast, the enemy troops were still over one hundred li east of kaifeng. I was in yangwu county, north of the yellow river, and submitted the divination paper and documents to the various officials. At that time, the commander-in-chief ding shenglin, the governor gao luji, and the inspector ren minshui urgently summoned me to kaifeng. I entered the city early on the twenty-third day, and that afternoon the enemy troops arrived at the city gates and immediately launched an attack on the northeast corner. For more than twenty days they continuously attacked day and night, creating an extremely critical situation. Eventually, the city was saved; these events were witnessed by ding and his colleagues.

On the Jiayin day, Fan Xuantong divined a covered object (shayu) as described in the guide.

In the year Xinsi, in the eighth lunar month, on the day Jiayin, at the hour Renshen, Fan Xuantong from Shaoxing, Zhejiang, came to seek a divination. He wanted to know what was wrapped inside the handkerchief case in his sleeve. This was a "shefu" divination, where the diviner is not told in advance what is concealed, but must deduce the actual object based on the Five Phases, forms, colors, and objects indicated in the divination chart. This case is recorded in "The Six壬 Guide."

This is a lesson pattern diagram written out as a flat circle. The outer circle lists the twelve branches each accompanied by their respective Heavenly Generals:寅 is accompanied by Teng Snake, 卯 by Vermilion Bird, 辰 by Liu He, 巳 by Gou Chen, 午 by Azure Dragon, 未 by Tian Kong, 申 by White Tiger, 酉 by Tai Chang, 戌 by Black Tortoise, 亥 by Tai Yin, 子 by Heavenly Empress, and 丑 by Nobleman. Since it is the day of Jiayin and the time is Shen (申) in the daytime, the daytime Nobleman is used, and the Nobleman is located on 丑. The twelve Heavenly Generals are then arranged in sequence from there. The middle section shows the four lessons, counted from right to left: the first lesson has the day stem Jia (with its lodging palace in寅) with亥, which is accompanied by Tai Yin; the second lesson has亥 with申, which is accompanied by White Tiger; the third lesson has the day branch寅 with亥, which is accompanied by Tai Yin; the fourth lesson has亥 with申, which is accompanied by White Tiger. Since the day stem and branch of Jiayin are both in寅, the four lessons only show two different entries, making it an "eight-special" lesson. The right section shows the three transmissions: the first transmission is丑, representing the wife's wealth, accompanied by Nobleman; the middle and final transmissions are both亥, which hide the stem of the ten-day cycle癸, representing the parents' wealth, accompanied by Tai Yin. In the Jiayin ten-day cycle, the stems Zi and Chou are empty, so the first transmission 丑 is not marked with its hidden stem.

Chen Gongxian said: Jia is a yang day, and the eight specialized divination lessons follow the example of counting three positions from the day stem in the order of the heavenly stems. Therefore, the initiating transmission is at Chou. Then, combining the heavenly stem at the day stem and Hai, we can determine the hidden object. Chou, in the twelve earthly branches, is the ox, which has a yellowish-black color. Hai also signifies a pair, indicating that the hidden object must be two items, one yellow and one black. Chou is also the nobleman for Jia day, indicating that the object is valuable. Chou also carries the Tianyi, meaning it can treat illness. Chou's number is eight, and Hai's number is four, so the weight is determined to be four and eight. Fan Xuantong was greatly impressed. He opened his sleeve and looked inside a small tube, and indeed found two pieces of stone yellow (realgar), each weighing about four and seven tenths parts.

On Jiayin day, the king's judicial officer divined about the future (Oral Mirror, Fang's case records).

In the year of Wushen, sixth lunar month, on the day of Jiayin, the month general is "Wei" (Xiaoji), placed on the hour of Xu to cast the divination. The person seeking the divination is Wang Si Fa, born in the year of Yihai, thirty-four years old this year, asking about his official career prospects. This case is recorded in both "Koujian" and Fang's "Zhan An."

The flattened lesson pattern diagram. The outer circle shows the twelve branches with their corresponding heavenly generals:寅 is occupied by the Azure Dragon, 卯 by Gou Chen, 辰 by Liu He, 巳 by Vermilion Bird, 午 by Teng Snake, 未 by Nobleman, 申 by Heavenly Empress, 酉 by Tai Yin, 戌 by Black Tortoise, 亥 by Tai Chang, 子 by White Tiger, and 丑 by Tian Kong. Since it is戌 hour, which is night, on a Jiayin day, the night nobleman is used, and the nobleman is located on 未. The twelve heavenly generals are thus arranged in reverse order. The four lessons are arranged from right to left: the first lesson, on the day stem Jiayin (with its lodging palace in寅), shows亥, which is occupied by Tai Chang; the second lesson, on亥, shows申, which is occupied by Heavenly Empress; the third lesson, on the day branch寅, shows亥, which is occupied by Tai Chang; the fourth lesson, on亥, shows申, which is occupied by Heavenly Empress. Since the day stem and branch are both Jiayin, it remains an "Eight Special" lesson. The three transmissions: the first transmission is丑, representing the wife's wealth, occupied by Tian Kong. A "空" is marked before the character 丑, indicating it falls in the旬空 of the Jiayin cycle. The middle and final transmissions are both癸亥, representing the parents' wealth, occupied by Tai Chang.

Shao Yanhe said: The亥 (Xia) is the true birth year of Wang Jifa (he was born in the year of Yihai). The亥 is placed above the day stem and day branch, and it generates with the stem and branch, which is originally very favorable. However, the亥 is at the end of the Jiayin cycle, belonging to the "closed mouth" deity, which indicates one parent is silent, meaning there will be mourning. Moreover, his year of life also falls on亥, and there is again the deity of grandparents on top of the parents'爻, indicating the parents going to visit the grandparents (superiors), which is an omen of death. The丑 is in the旬空 and carries the Tian Kong, making it the first transmission, and the spirit of emptiness and storage has already begun. Furthermore, the辰 is the锹锄杀 (active earth killer), which indicates the burial of the earth, so this year's October will be the mother's death, and the next year's January will be the father's death. This person will later certainly start school, hold positions such as the platform advisor and attendant, which are types of officials who speak on behalf of the court, but will never be assigned to govern a local area. He will die in the year of Wuzi, either at seventy-four or seventy-eight years old. Later it turned out that Wang Jifa indeed mourned his mother in the tenth month of that year and his father in the first month of the next year. At thirty-seven he obtained a position in the Wenzhou legal office, at thirty-nine he became the Tai Chang Si Xuelu, then moved to the national university's official position and the position of Zhengyan, and throughout his life he never governed a local area. He died at seventy-eight.

This lesson involves the亥 (Hai) trigram added to the寅 (Yin) trigram at the beginning of the ten-day cycle. When the parents' trigram is thus added, it indicates the parents' death. The self-trigram also encounters a closed mouth, so the career path remains unsmooth. Since the number seventy-four is broken, it is also mentioned as seventy-eight. How do these two ages come about? The Hai trigram is added to the Yin trigram, with Hai corresponding to the number four and Yin to the number seven, combining to form seventy-four. The character Hai appears four times in the lesson, and adding another four gives seventy-eight. Moreover, there is a Hai trigram on both the day stem and the day branch, hence the two interpretations coexist.

There is another view:亥 represents the parents' yao, which falls at the end of the ten-day period and becomes a true closed mouth. It also rides on Tai Chang, which signifies mourning for parents. Its yin spirit shows Shen metal riding on Tian Hou. Shen and亥 are exactly in mutual harm, so there is no need to doubt the death of the parents. The initial transmission is Chou, which originally belongs to earth, but it falls in the empty period and also rides on Tian Kong, empty on top of empty, so he cannot become a local official responsible for guarding the land.亥 is the position of the heavenly gate, also the place of growth for Jia wood and the location of the school of literature. The middle and final transmissions are all亥, so it is concluded that he can start school and rise through scholarly achievement.

On the Yimao day

On Yimao day, Liu Yun Gan divined the future (case record, oral commentary).

In the year Wushen of the Jianyan era of Emperor Gaozong of the Song dynasty, on the Yimao day of the tenth month, the "Mao" (Taichong) was taken as the month general, and the class was started on the "Wei" hour. The person seeking the divination was Liu Yun Gan, an official in the transport bureau, born in the Dingmao year, aged forty-two that year, asking about his future prospects. This case is recorded in the Fang Ben's "Zhan An" and "Kou Jian."

The flattened lesson pattern diagram. The outer circle shows the heavenly generals riding the earthly branches: Chou rides Teng Snake, Yin rides Vermilion Bird, Mao rides Liu He, Chen rides Gou Chen, Si rides Azure Dragon, Wu rides Tian Kong, Wei rides White Tiger, Shen rides Tai Chang, You rides Black Tortoise, Xu rides Tai Yin, Hai rides Heavenly Empress, and Zi rides Nobleman. Since the time is Wei hour, which belongs to the day, and the day is Yi, the day's nobleman is used, and the nobleman is on Zi. The heavenly generals are arranged in order from there. The four lessons are arranged from right to left: the first lesson, the day stem Yi (with its lodging palace in Chen) has Zi, which rides Nobleman; the second lesson, Zi has Shen, which rides Tai Chang; the third lesson, the day branch Mao has Hai, which rides Heavenly Empress; the fourth lesson, Hai has Wei, which rides White Tiger. The three transmissions: the first transmission is Ji Wei, which is the wife wealth hexagram, riding White Tiger; the second transmission is Yi Mao, which is the brother hexagram, riding Liu He; the third transmission is Gui Hai, which is the parent hexagram, riding Heavenly Empress. Wei, Mao, and Hai form a triple harmony of wood. The wood is buried in Wei, strong in Mao, and born in Hai. The movement follows the path from burial to strength, then to birth. The day Yi is in the Ji Yin decade, with the empty position in Zi and Chou.

Shao Yanhe said: In this case, the day stem is seated upon a nobleman, and the nobleman turns back to nourish the day stem. The three transmissions form a wood pattern. The ethyl wood is born in亥, reaches its prosperity in卯, and is stored in未. The transmission starts from the storage, moves to the prosperity, and then proceeds to the birth in亥. This person will certainly rise from poverty to honor, eventually reaching the rank of attendant official. However, he will first lose his wife and suffer loss to his family, then adopt a son from his brother. Later, he will marry a younger wife who brings a great amount of wealth. He will live to nearly ninety years old. At that time, he held the position of court counselor (the text later refers to him as surnamed Qian, which conflicts with the title head "Liu Yun Gan," suggesting a possible error in transmission). In the year Xinhai, he lost his wife; in the year Yimao, he lost his son, and then adopted his brother's son as his heir. In the year Gengshen, he remarried at the age of fifty-four, with his wife being thirty-nine years old, and she brought with her tens of thousands of coins. Later, he rose to the position of deputy minister of the personnel department and died at the age of eighty-seven.

The reasoning is as follows: Both Yi and Mao are generated by the water of Hai and Zi. The three transmissions form a curve and straight wood pattern to support, moving from the storage to the growth, which indicates longevity and rising from obscurity to prominence. The final transmission, Hai, is the position of the heavenly gate, and the wood pattern also signifies control over government offices, so it is predicted that he will attain the rank of Deputy Minister. This textbook shows the father and son being of the same type and occupying Liu He, which symbolizes the adoption of a brother's son as a son-in-law. The wife and wealth line is empty and buried, and it is occupied by the White Tiger, indicating the loss of the spouse first. Mao is the禄神 of Yi wood and is placed on Wei. The final transmission, Heavenly Empress, is the growth god and returns to the禄 position, so the later wife should be indicated by the禄 on Wei, meaning the later wife will have abundant wealth. Another interpretation is: Heavenly Empress represents the wife, returning to the position of Mao. Wei represents the previous wife, occupied by the White Tiger, and its hidden wood at Mao will attack it, indicating the loss of the wife. Heavenly Empress represents the later wife, occupying the growth position and being adjacent to the禄 of the day stem, so the later wife will have abundant wealth.

On the day of Yimao, a person with the birth year Jiashen consults about litigation (from the Central Yellow Classic)

On the Yimao day of the eleventh month, with 'Chou' (Daji) as the Month General, the class is started on the 'Si' hour. The person asking the question was born in the Jiashen year and is inquiring about a legal case. This case is taken from the Zhonghuang Jing.

The lesson pattern is exactly the same as the previous case: the general at Chou is added to the time of Si, and the Heaven and Earth plates are exactly the same as those derived from the previous case where the general at Mao was added to the time of Wei. The outer circle of the twelve branches with their respective heavenly generals: Chou is accompanied by Teng Snake, Yin by Vermilion Bird, Mao by Liu He, Chen by Gou Chen, Si by Azure Dragon, Wu by Tian Kong, Wei by White Tiger, Shen by Tai Chang, You by Black Tortoise, Xu by Tai Yin, Hai by Heavenly Empress, and Zi by Nobleman. The four lessons are arranged from right to left: the day stem Yi has Zi, which is accompanied by Nobleman; Zi has Shen, which is accompanied by Tai Chang; the day branch Mao has Hai, which is accompanied by Heavenly Empress; and Hai has Wei, which is accompanied by White Tiger. The three transmissions: the first transmission is Ji Wei, representing the wife's wealth hexagram accompanied by White Tiger; the middle transmission is Yi Mao, representing the brother's hexagram accompanied by Liu He; the final transmission is Gui Hai, representing the parent's hexagram accompanied by Heavenly Empress. The sequence Wei, Mao, Hai still forms the Triple Harmony of wood. The term 'Shen Ming' mentioned later refers to the person seeking divination being born in the year Ji Shen, with their destiny in Shen; the hexagram seen at the position of Shen is Chen, which is accompanied by Gou Chen, exactly the layer that needs to be addressed in the interpretation.

The interpretation says: The first transmission originates from the hidden spirit of the day branch, and the position of Wei is occupied by the White Tiger. This seems like the White Tiger and the burial deity are in control, which appears very ominous. Fortunately, the three transmissions form a wooden structure to support the day stem. Moreover, Wei is the relief deity for the eleventh month, so although the White Tiger is on Wei, it is located at the亥 position, meaning its claws and teeth have nowhere to be deployed, so there is no need to be afraid. As for the personal destiny on Shen, although there is Chen with Gou Chen, the Yi wood can naturally restrain the Chen earth. Moreover, this Chen is the original position of the day stem Yi, which is its lodging palace. The heavenly stem hidden in Chen is Geng, and Yi and Geng combine and transform, indicating a wife following her husband. The husband also shows affection for the wife, creating a spirit of benevolence and righteousness. This is the most intimate and harmonious combination, where neither harms the other but supports each other, thus becoming a fortunate event. Furthermore, the triple harmony of the wooden structure flows through the three transmissions, the Yi wood receives support, Gou Chen is restrained, the White Tiger loses its power, and it returns from the burial place to the place of growth. Is this not a very auspicious lesson?

On the Yimao day, Chu Yan divined for Lady Princess Li's illness, and the divination was precise and to the point.

In the first year of Emperor Renzong's Huangyou reign, the princess of Li General's family was thirty-three years old. On the fifth month, she suddenly fell ill and by the end of the month her condition became critical. The imperial physicians deliberated repeatedly and dared not administer medicine. On the 23rd day of that month, by imperial decree, Chu Yan was sent to Li's house to cast a divination, to wait on the spot for the report. That day was the Yimao day and the Hai hour. Using "Xiaoji" (Wei) as the Month General, it was placed on the Hai hour to cast the divination. This case is recorded in "Yizhen Jianxue."

The outer circle shows the heavenly generals riding the earthly branches: Chou rides the Azure Dragon, Yin rides the Sky Void, Mao rides the White Tiger, Chen rides the Tai Chang, Si rides the Black Tortoise, Wu rides the Tai Yin, Wei rides the Heavenly Empress, Shen rides the Nobleman, You rides the Teng Snake, Xu rides the Vermilion Bird, Hai rides the Liu He, and Zi rides the Gou Chen. Since it is the亥 hour, which belongs to night, and the day is 乙, the night nobleman is used, with the nobleman located on Shen. The heavenly generals are then arranged in sequence from there. The four lessons are arranged from right to left: the first lesson, on the day stem 乙, shows Zi, which rides the Gou Chen; the second lesson, on Zi, shows Shen, which rides the Nobleman; the third lesson, on the day branch Mao, shows Hai, which rides the Liu He; the fourth lesson, on Hai, shows Wei, which rides the Heavenly Empress. The three transmissions: the first transmission, Jiwei, is the wife's wealth hexagram riding the Heavenly Empress; the middle transmission, Yimao, is the brother's hexagram riding the White Tiger; the final transmission, Guihai, is the father's hexagram riding the Liu He. The three transmissions still form the triple harmony of wood, with the three hexagrams being Wei, Mao, and Hai. However, since this lesson uses the night nobleman, the heavenly generals riding the hexagrams are entirely different from the previous two cases.

Chu Yanyan submitted a detailed report stating that the princess's illness was caused by eating cold food and being startled by a white animal, which allowed a wind path to enter her meridians, resulting in convulsions during the day and some relief at night. The illness was located below the liver and gallbladder, hidden and not immediately visible. At the hour of the rat (midnight), a divine physician would appear in her dream, and upon waking she would vomit, and by evening her pulse would return to normal, ensuring her safety; the court physicians were therefore instructed to prepare harmonizing medicine in advance. That night at three to four o'clock, the princess indeed dreamed of a purple-robed monk holding a willow branch dipped in water, which he used to sprinkle on her body. Upon waking, she sweated profusely and vomited, and then felt gradually better. The emperor was pleased with this outcome and sent an inner attendant to the Li family to ask them to report the entire incident truthfully. The princess said that on the Dragon Boat Festival, after the hour of the horse, she had drunk with a military officer and eaten a cold zongzi, during which a white lion cat jumped onto the table, knocked over the wine vessel, and she had felt unwell at that time. Upon reviewing the detailed report, the emperor summoned Chu Yanyan to the private hall and asked him why the previous divination had predicted this outcome so accurately, ordering him to explain in detail.

Chu Yanyi proposed that on the previous day, which was the Yimao day, at the亥 hour, the Xiaoji at Wei was taken as the month general and placed on亥, and Wei became the first transmission, with the upper rider being the Heavenly Empress. The middle transmission was Taichong at Mao placed on Wei, with the White Tiger as its rider. The final transmission was Dengming at Hai placed on Mao, with Liu He as its rider. This divination is exactly the "Original Head" pattern. The White Tiger, aInauspicious Spirit, does not attack the day stem, so the illness is not serious. The first transmission, Wei, is theStorage of wood, placed on亥, which is the position of extreme yin energy, indicating severe cold. Within Wei there is also hidden Ding fire, and Yi wood takes Ding fire as its food god, which governs food, so it is concluded that she had eaten something cold. The middle transmission, Taichong at Mao, placed on Wei, has the White Tiger riding on Mao wood to restrain the first transmission's Wei earth, thus causing an incident involving a white animal. According to the method, using Chou and Wei as meridians, and Si and Hai as the air passages, it is said that the wind enters the meridians. The entire divination forms a curve and straight wood pattern, and strong wood energy indicates wind. The first transmission, Wei, is also the month builder and the position of the sun in May, so the illness occurs during the day. Wood corresponds to the liver and gallbladder, and Wei is the墓库 of wood, with墓 meaning concealment, so the illness is hidden beneath the liver and gallbladder, not easily detected. The Tianyi in May is at Shen, and now Shen is placed on Zi, which is the personal year of the princess, and also receives the transmission from Shen. Shen is the绝地 of wood, and in divination, when wood reaches its绝, its spirit returns to heaven. Looking at the personal year's hidden spirit, it is supported by the Tiangang at Chen, which is the dream spirit, so dreams can be experienced. Shen is also the nobleman of the day, with Tianyi riding on it, so the dream is of a divine physician. The day stem has Gou Chen falling into water, which naturally indicates vomiting. All the statements I have made are factual, and I respectfully submit them for your consideration.

On the Yimao day, Guan Lu divined about the wind coming to respond to the season. (Direct reference to the biography of Guan Lu in the Records of the Three Kingdoms)

On the Yimao day of the seventh month, using 'Si' (Taiyi) as the Month General, the divination starts at the 'Wu' hour. The case concerns a sudden wind blowing and asks what event it should indicate. This case is found in "Liu Yin Zhi Zhi," which is a quotation from the "San Guo Zhi · Guan Lu Zhuan."

The flattened lesson pattern diagram. The outer circle shows the heavenly generals riding the earthly branches: Chen rides Gou Chen, Si rides Qing Long, Wu rides Tian Kong, Wei rides Bai Hu, Shen rides Tai Chang, You rides Xuan Wu, Xu rides Tai Yin, Hai rides Tian Hou, Zi rides Gui Ren, Chou rides Teng Snake, Yin rides Zhu Qu, Mao rides Liu He. The time is wu (noon), which belongs to the day, and on the second day (Yi day), the day's nobleman is used, with the nobleman located on Zi. The heavenly generals are then arranged in sequence from there. The four lessons are arranged from right to left: the first lesson, the day stem Yi (with its lodging palace in Chen) has Mao, which rides Liu He; the second lesson, Mao has Yin, which rides Zhu Qu; the third lesson, the day branch Mao has Yin, which rides Zhu Qu; the fourth lesson, Yin has Chou, which rides Teng Snake. The three transmissions: the first transmission is Chou, representing the wife's wealth, riding Teng Snake; the middle transmission is Zi, representing the parents' wealth, riding Gui Ren; the final transmission is Gui Hai, representing the parents' wealth, riding Tian Hou. Both Chou and Zi are marked with a '◎', indicating that on the day of Yi Mao, the Zi and Chou positions are empty in the Jiayin cycle. The three transmissions, Chou, Zi, and Hai, move backward in sequence, forming the image of 'retreating and consuming'.

Guan Lu was in the official office of Dian Nong Xiaowei Wang Hongzhi when a whirlwind came from the direction of Shen. He interpreted the situation saying: today's day branch is Yimao, the star ruler is in Shen, Shen conflicts with Yin, which is a sign of death and mourning; the wind arose at the hour of Wu, and Wu represents the horse, which is a sign related to horses; Wei falls on Shen and becomes the White Tiger, which signifies a superior person, a sign related to fathers. Taken together, there will be an official riding a horse coming from the east, and it is feared that the father will mourn his son. The next day, an official from Jiao Dong arrived, and indeed Wang Hongzhi's son had died.

Cheng Shuxun notes: This divination method originally belongs to the "Fengjiao" technique, which involves predicting auspiciousness or misfortune by observing wind direction and wind sound. However, the phrase "if the wind is not in Shen, it is the tiger" still incorporates the concept of Heavenly Generals from the Six壬 system. Since the wind is coming from the direction of Shen, one should examine the deities and generals governing the position of Shen. The focus of the interpretation lies here.

On Yimao day, Zheng Ziyun divined about his future prospects (recorded in Fang Ben's divination case and oral commentary).

In the year of Wushen, in the tenth month, on the day of Yimao, the "Mao" (Taichong) is taken as the Month General, and the class is started on the "Chen" hour. The person seeking the divination is Zheng Ziyun, born in the year of Yihai, thirty-four years old this year, asking about his official career prospects. This case is found in the Fang Ben "Zhan An" and "Kou Jian."

The lesson pattern is the same as the previous case—when the general is placed on the hour of辰 with the general of卯, and on the hour of午 with the general of巳, the heavenly and earthly plates are exactly the same. Outer circle: 辰 is multiplied by Gou Chen, 巳 by Azure Dragon, 午 by Tian Kong, 未 by White Tiger, 申 by Tai Chang, 酉 by Black Tortoise, 戌 by Tai Yin, 亥 by Heavenly Empress, 子 by Nobleman, 丑 by Teng Snake, 寅 by Vermilion Bird, 卯 by Liu He. The four lessons, read from right to left: the day stem 乙 has 卯 on it, which is multiplied by Liu He; 卯 has 寅 on it, which is multiplied by Vermilion Bird; the day branch 卯 has 寅 on it, which is multiplied by Vermilion Bird; 寅 has 丑 on it, which is multiplied by Teng Snake. The three transmissions: the first transmission is 丑, which is the wife wealth hexagram multiplied by Teng Snake and is in the empty旬; the middle transmission is 子, which is the parents hexagram multiplied by Nobleman and is also in the empty旬; the final transmission is Guihai, which is the parents hexagram multiplied by Heavenly Empress. The禄 of 乙 wood is on 卯, and 卯 is both on the day stem and the day branch, which is the foundation for the following statements.

Shao Yanhe said: This lesson indicates that he will have to take the imperial examination again next year, and will achieve success in the year of Hai. He will rank high in the list. Afterwards, he will serve in the court continuously without being assigned to an outer post, and will eventually reach the position of the Eight Ministers, which is equivalent to the level of the Minister of Works. However, he will eventually be demoted and will never obtain an official residence. Later, Zheng Ziyun passed the provincial examination at the age of twenty-nine, was promoted again at thirty-five, and achieved the imperial examination success at thirty-seven. He first served as a professor in Lin'an Prefecture, then successively held positions such as the Secretary of the Imperial Academy, the Vice Minister of the Imperial Academy, and officials in the Ministry of Works and the Ministry of Justice, all of which were central government posts. Later, he was dismissed due to a disagreement with Qin Hui over a single phrase.

The basis for the deduction is that the禄神 of 乙 wood is in 卯, and it proceeds backwards to 亥, which is the long life position. From 亥 to 卯, the entire area is full of life and prosperity, and the earthly branches are connected continuously. The禄神 is exactly where the sun god is located, and the Vermilion Bird serves as the ceremonial attendant. If the middle transmission and final transmission do not fall into Kongwang, this would be a noble pattern of the Five Officials. Now, as it proceeds backwards to a position near the heavenly gate, it indicates that he will hold an official position of eight seats in the court. 子 is the Purple Micro Palace, and 亥 is the distant celestial palace, both of which indicate positions of eight seats. Unfortunately, it has retreated into Kongwang, so it indicates that he will suffer a demotion in his later years.

On the Yimao day, the three meanings hall's boat surface echoed and cracked; what event should be predicted? (Guo's divination case)

In the year Jisi, third month, on the day Yimao, using the hour You (from the term Congkui) as the Month General, the divination was started with the hour Wei. At that time, a person was in a hall called Sanyi, and suddenly a sound was heard on the table, which then cracked open. The person consulted about this strange omen and what it might signify. This case is recorded in Guo's "Divination Cases."

The flattened lesson pattern diagram. The outer circle shows the heavenly generals riding the twelve branches: Wei rides the Azure Dragon, Shen rides Gou Chen, You rides Liu He, Xu rides Vermilion Bird, Hai rides Teng Snake, Zi rides Nobleman, Chou rides Heavenly Empress, Yin rides Tai Yin, Mao rides Black Tortoise, Chen rides Tai Chang, Si rides White Tiger, Wu rides Tian Kong. The time of Wei hour belongs to the day, and on an ethereal day (Yi), the day's nobleman is used, with the nobleman located on Zi. The heavenly generals are then arranged in reverse order from there. The four lessons are arranged from right to left: the first lesson has the day stem Yi (with its lodging palace in Chen) with Wu, which rides Tian Kong; the second lesson has Wu with Shen, which rides Gou Chen; the third lesson has the day branch Mao with Si, which rides White Tiger; the fourth lesson has Si with Wei, which rides Azure Dragon. The three transmissions: the first transmission is Geng Shen, representing the official ghost hexagram, riding Gou Chen; the second transmission is Ren Xu, representing the wife's wealth hexagram, riding Vermilion Bird; the third transmission is Zi, representing the parents' hexagram, riding Nobleman, with 「◎」 indicating that Zi falls in the empty position of the Jiayin decade.

Wang Mufu said: The first transmission shows the monthly virtue, and the final transmission shows the nobleman. This sound breaking is not a凶咎, but indicates that an official is passing by, and it is feared that there may also be a fire. A while later, a fire broke out on the south side of the Left Guard Street, and the transport office sent out officials to put out the fire, which was fulfilled. The reasoning is: Shen governs officials and the position of inspection, and Shen combines with the day branch, so the prediction was made outside the door. The day stem and day branch both belong to the fire god, and the day stem is also occupied by the fire ghost, so it indicates fire. The next day there was a fight between monks, which also took Shen as the monk; the final transmission Zi forms an improper punishment with the day branch Mao. The three transmissions can foresee three things, but now two have been fulfilled, the remaining one should also be predicted in the same way. The middle transmission Xu is the storage of fire, and the dry and branch both belong to fire, which also indicates fire; the first transmission Shen is a劫杀, indicating that the matter comes suddenly.

On Yimao day, divination for hunting or trapping (straight indication)

In the first lunar month on the Yimao day, using 'Hai' (Dengming) as the Month General, the calculation starts at the Shen hour. The divination is about whether the thief can be caught. This case is from the "Liu Ren Zhi Zhi."

The flattened lesson pattern diagram. The outer circle shows the heavenly generals associated with the twelve branches: Shen (Hour of the Monkey) rides Gou Chen, You (Hour of the Rooster) rides Liu He, Xu (Hour of the Dog) rides Vermilion Bird, Hai (Hour of the Pig) rides Teng Snake, Zi (Hour of the Rat) rides Nobleman, Chou (Hour of the Ox) rides Heavenly Empress, Yin (Hour of the Tiger) rides Tai Yin, Mao (Hour of the Rabbit) rides Black Tortoise, Chen (Hour of the Dragon) rides Tai Chang, Si (Hour of the Snake) rides White Tiger, Wu (Hour of the Horse) rides Tian Kong, and Wei (Hour of the Goat) rides Azure Dragon. At Shen hour, it still belongs to the daytime, and on an Yi day, the daytime nobleman is used. The nobleman is located on Zi, and the heavenly generals are arranged in reverse order. The four lessons are arranged from right to left: the first lesson, on the day stem Yi (with its lodging palace in Chen), shows Wu, which rides Azure Dragon; the second lesson, on Wu shows Xu, which rides Vermilion Bird; the third lesson, on the day branch Mao shows Wu, which rides Tian Kong; the fourth lesson, on Wu shows You, which rides Liu He. The three transmissions: the first transmission is Xin You, representing the official ghost爻, riding Liu He; the middle transmission is Zi, representing the parent爻, riding Nobleman, marked with 「◎」indicating an empty period; the final transmission is Yi Mao, representing the brother爻, riding Black Tortoise. Black Tortoise is the god of thieves, and its presence on the final transmission's Mao indicates the focus for determining the location of thieves in this lesson.

Shao Yanhe said: The卯 (Mao) is occupied by the Black Tortoise, and the upper god of卯 is午 (Wu), so the thief is moving from Due East to Due South. The number of卯 is six, and the number of午 is nine. Six multiplied by nine equals fifty-four, so the distance is fifty-four li. The卯 governs trees and graves, and since there is also the Tian Kong above it, it indicates that he is hiding in a cave or earth pit. The middle transmission子 (Zi) water comes to overcome午 (Wu) fire, and the first transmission酉 (You) metal comes to overcome卯 (Mao) wood, so the thief will surely be captured. The time of the event will be on the day of酉 or子. Later, this prediction was indeed fulfilled.
