A young official was taxed, born in the Gengwu year. At thirty-nine years old, he consulted about property and received the same divination lesson. This case is recorded in the Fang Ben "Zhan An" and "Kou Jian."

The lesson pattern is exactly the same as the previous case. Outer circle: Shen is乘 by the nobleman, You is乘 by the teng snake, Xu is乘 by the vermilion bird, Hai is乘 by liu he, Zi is乘 by gou chen, Chou is乘 by the azure dragon, Yin is乘 by tian kong, Mao is乘 by the white tiger, Chen is乘 by tai chang, Si is乘 by the black tortoise, Wu is乘 by tai yin, and Wei is乘 by the heavenly empress. The four lessons, read from right to left: the day stem Yi (located in Chen) has Chou on it乘 by the azure dragon; Chou has Xu on it乘 by the vermilion bird; the day branch Wei has Chen on it乘 by tai chang; Chen has Chou on it乘 by the azure dragon. The three transmissions: the first transmission is Xinchou, the middle transmission is Wuxu, and the final transmission is Yiwei. All three transmissions are wife wealth hexagrams, successively乘 by the azure dragon, the vermilion bird, and the heavenly empress. The day stem has wealth on it乘 by the azure dragon, which serves as the basis for the subsequent judgment about obtaining a field estate. The three transmissions are all wealth without any restriction, which is exactly the image of 'complete wealth transforming into ghost'.

Shao Yanhe said: In this divination, the day stem is seen to have wealth, mainly adding to the fields and estates, and no money is needed to buy it. In the middle, there will be a person who comes to claim it, but later it is given back to him. After that, one can still obtain wealth from others, which comes from the families that have finished their mourning period. In June, one should be cautious of domestic quarrels at home, or else there is a new grave of an elder relative at the front door, leading to disputes with others. The wealth obtained will eventually turn into official ghosts. In this year, there is a dispute over the child servant tax and the wife's family claiming the inheritance, resulting in twenty acres of land and some belongings. The third branch's mother-in-law, who is a widow, is dissatisfied with the share she receives and wants to take the case to the authorities. When the family divides the property, they do not want to divide the land, so they transfer all the land of the Tong family to this widow, and thus the family again loses their belongings.

The basis for the inference is that the wood of Yi is considered to have wealth in the branches Chen, Xu, Chou, and Wei, and also considers Chou and Wei as wife's branches, so the wealth comes from the wife's family. How do we know it is the other party who is dividing the property? On the day of Yiwei, the broken star falls on Chou, which represents land, and there is also the Azure Dragon on top of the land, so the wealth comes without having to buy it. The final transmission is Wei, which is occupied by the Heavenly Empress, indicating that the property of that family is returned. Since the property is returned and also gains wealth from others, it is because Chen is placed on Wei — that is, Yi is placed on Wei — and it turns back to attack the residence; the residence refers to the other party, so the other party becomes wealth. Chen also represents the multitude, so it is possible to gain wealth from many people. In the previous September, there was an elder who was buried in the graveyard in front of the Tong family's gate, encroaching on the land of Tong's tax office, thus leading to a dispute and a lawsuit. The wealth obtained was indeed transformed into official ghosts. Since the day stem represents the elder, the day stem is in front and the day branch is in back, and the day stem is placed on the branch, it is called the front of the residence. Chen is the tomb of the day stem, so it is called a new tomb. The classic says: if all three transmissions are wealth, they will turn into ghosts. If it is not in spring — when Yi wood is strong — then not only will the wealth not be obtained, but one's own wealth will also be lost.

On Yiwei day, divination about thieves and bandits (straight indication).

In the eleventh month on the Yiwei day, using 'Chou' (Daji) as the Month General, the class is started on the 'Mao' hour. The divination is about thieves. This case is from the "Six Rats Direct Point."

The flattened lesson pattern diagram. The outer circle shows the twelve earthly branches with their respective heavenly generals: Zi (子) is occupied by the Nobleman, Chou (丑) by the Teng Snake, Yin (寅) by the Vermilion Bird, Mao (卯) by Liu He, Chen (辰) by Gou Chen, Si (巳) by the Azure Dragon, Wu (午) by Tian Kong, Wei (未) by the White Tiger, Shen (申) by Tai Chang, You (酉) by the Black Tortoise, Xu (戌) by Tai Yin, and Hai (亥) by the Heavenly Empress. On a daytime divination for an Yi day, the Nobleman is at Zi. At Mao time, which is daytime, it matches, and the heavenly generals are arranged in order. The four lessons are arranged from right to left: the first lesson, the day stem Yi (with its lodging palace at Chen) has Yin, which is occupied by the Vermilion Bird; the second lesson, Yin has Zi, which is occupied by the Nobleman; the third lesson, the day branch Wei has Si, which is occupied by the Azure Dragon; the fourth lesson, Si has Mao, which is occupied by Liu He. There is no mutual control among the four lessons, indicating the昴 star lesson. For a yin day, the initiating transmission is determined by the position of You on the heaven plate, which falls on Hai on the earth plate. The three transmissions: the first transmission is Ji Hai, representing the parents' yao, occupied by the Heavenly Empress; the middle transmission is Ren Yin, representing the brothers' yao, occupied by the Vermilion Bird; the final transmission is Si, representing the sons' yao, occupied by the Azure Dragon. The symbol 「◎」 indicates that Si falls in the empty position (Kongwang). On the Yi Wei day, which belongs to the Jiawu decade, the empty positions are at Chen and Si. The Black Tortoise is on You, representing the class of the thief. The Azure Dragon on Si can control You, while the strong Hai water counteracts the Si fire. The subsequent conclusion that the thief is hidden by water and will eventually be captured is derived from the interactions among these three elements.

Shao Yanhe said: When the Black Tortoise comes to overcome the day stem, it certainly indicates loss of wealth. The Azure Dragon can overcome the Black Tortoise, meaning the thief is about to be exposed; but he was instead restrained by the strong亥 water, which suppressed the巳 fire. Therefore, the thief was able to hide in the water.戌 is the path he came from, and亥 is the direction he went, both located in the Northwest.酉 is the native branch of the thief, so this person must be of the chicken zodiac.酉 counts as six,亥 counts as four, and the hidden stem also gives乙 as eight and丁 as six, totaling twenty-four. Since酉 has no strength, it does not need to be doubled. One should search for him beyond twenty-four li, where there are trees in front of the door and water behind the house. Later, this prediction was indeed verified.

This statement is found in the Zhonghuang Jing, not in Shao Yanhe's divination records.

On Yiwei day, Zhang Xiang you divined for Zhao Guangbian about a journey to the south.

In the Dingyou year of the Chongzheng era, on the Yiwei day of the sixth lunar month, the 'Wei' (Xiaoji) was used as the Month General, placed on the Shen hour to cast the divination. A candidate for the imperial examination, Zhang Surname, asked H Zhao Guangbian, a specialist in military affairs in Jiujiang, about his intention to volunteer for military service at the border. This case is recorded in the Six壬 Guide.

The flat layout of the lesson pattern. On a Yi day, during the Shen hour which is daytime, the Nobleman is at Zi, matching the daytime condition, and the heavenly generals are arranged in order. The four lessons are arranged from right to left: the first lesson, the day stem Yi (寄辰) has Mao on it, with Mao occupied by Liu He; the second lesson, Mao has Yin on it, with Yin occupied by the Vermilion Bird; the third lesson, the day branch Wei has Wu on it, with Wu occupied by Tian Kong; the fourth lesson, Wu has Si on it, with Si occupied by the Azure Dragon. There is no mutual control among the four lessons, indicating the昴星 lesson pattern. For a yin day, the starting point is the position of You on the heaven plate, which falls on Xu on the earth plate. The three transmissions are: the first transmission is Wu Xu, a wealth and treasure hexagram occupied by Tai Yin; the middle transmission is Gui Mao, a brother hexagram occupied by Liu He; the final transmission is Jia Wu, a son and grandson hexagram occupied by Tian Kong. TheThe Post-horse of Hai-Mao-Wei is at Si, which is exactly the position of the旬空 (empty period) in the Jiawu period (empty periods are Chen and Si), which is referred to as「驿马旬空」. Xu is Hekui, and it is currently pressing on the earth plate's Hai position, which is called「河魁渡亥」.

Chen Gongxian said: Whenever the昴 star lesson occurs on a yin or yang day, even if the Teng Snake and White Tiger do not enter the three transmissions, it is only suitable for stillness and not for action. Because the Nobleman is in his original position, the Post-horse falls in the empty term, so maintaining the status quo is the best strategy. Moreover, the Hekui has crossed the Hai position, and the middle transmission is a broken bridge, so all matters are obstructed and difficult to proceed. Also, the Vermilion Bird has offended the sovereign's deity, so an official's memorial will certainly anger the emperor. Later, Zhao先生 was indeed exiled to the frontier. In the Renwu year, he was appointed as the overall governor of Yan and Liao, but was arrested for mismanaging military affairs and was executed. If this lesson is used to predict a lawsuit, it would mean the case reaches the court and the person is condemned to death.

On Yiwei day, Jingshi Jun substituted for Ming Xiaolian in divining the imperial examination (Guo's divination case).

In the Dingyou year of the Chongzheng era (i.e., Chongzhen), on the Yiwei day of the second lunar month, the lesson was cast with 'Hai' (Dengming) as the Month General, placed on the 'Xu' hour. Jingshi Jun cast the divination for Mingdu, a candidate, regarding the imperial examination. This case is recorded in Guo's 'Zhan An'.

The flat layout of the lesson pattern. The outer circle shows the twelve earthly branches each associated with a heavenly general: Zi (子) is associated with the Nobleman, Chou (丑) with the Teng Snake, Yin (寅) with the Vermilion Bird, Mao (卯) with Liu He, Chen (辰) with Gou Chen, Si (巳) with the Azure Dragon, Wu (午) with Tian Kong, Wei (未) with the White Tiger, Shen (申) with Tai Chang, You (酉) with the Black Tortoise, Xu (戌) with Tai Yin, and Hai (亥) with the Heavenly Empress. The heavenly generals are arranged in a clockwise order. The four lessons are arranged from right to left: the first lesson has the day stem Yi (乙) (with its lodging palace in Chen) with Si (巳) on it, which is associated with the Azure Dragon; the second lesson has Wu (午) on Si (巳), which is associated with Tian Kong; the third lesson has Shen (申) on Wei (未), which is associated with Tai Chang; the fourth lesson has You (酉) on Shen (申), which is associated with the Black Tortoise. There is no mutual control among the four lessons, and the only mutual control in the entire lesson is the remote control of the metal of Shen (申) and You (酉) over the wood of the day stem Yi (乙). Therefore, the Yin branch You (酉) is used as the initiating transmission, with the middle and final transmissions following in order as Xu (戌) and Hai (亥). The three transmissions: the first transmission is Dingyou (丁酉), a ghostly official爻 associated with the Black Tortoise; the middle transmission is Wuxu (戊戌), a wife's wealth爻 associated with Tai Yin; the final transmission is Jihai (己亥), a parent爻 associated with the Heavenly Empress. The heavenly stems hidden by the transmissions of You (酉), Xu (戌), and Hai (亥) are exactly Ding, Wu, and Ji, which is what is referred to later as conforming to the "Three Marvels Pattern." TheThe Post-horse of Hai-Mao-Wei (亥卯未) is in Si (巳), and Si (巳) is also associated with the Azure Dragon, which is directly above the day stem.

Guo Yüqing said: The Nobleman, when placed on the Day Branch and acting as the auspicious general Tai Chang, and the Azure Dragon covering the Day Stem and also serving as the favorable Post-horse deity; the official star issues the three transmissions, leading all the way to Growth, using the Wu Zi Yuan Dun method to deduce the heavenly stems of the three transmissions, which exactly form the Three Marvels pattern — this is a sure sign of success. Later, he indeed passed the examination.

On Yiwei day, Zhang SiZhi's divination on whether to advance or retreat and his actions (Guide to the Way)

In the year Jiashen of the Shunzhi era, on the Yiwei day of the fifth lunar month, using 'Shen' (Chuansong) as the Month General, the class was cast starting from the Wei hour. Zhang Sizhi, a gentleman from Feixian, was staying in the public office of the Fuhe Hall because the military forces of Gaozhen were stationed outside the northern city. He consulted about whether to advance or retreat. This case is from the "Liu Ren Zhi Nan".

The lesson pattern is exactly the same as the previous case: at the hour of戌 in the sign of亥 and at the hour of未 in the sign of申, the Heaven Plate advances one position in the same direction as the Earth Plate. Outer circle: 子 is乘 by Nobleman, 丑 is乘 by Teng Snake, 寅 is乘 by Vermilion Bird, 卯 is乘 by Liu He, 辰 is乘 by Gou Chen, 巳 is乘 by Azure Dragon, 午 is乘 by Tian Kong, 未 is乘 by White Tiger, 申 is乘 by Tai Chang, 酉 is乘 by Black Tortoise, 戌 is乘 by Tai Yin, 亥 is乘 by Heavenly Empress. Four lessons from right to left: the Day Stem 乙 (located in 辰) has 巳 on it, which is乘 by Azure Dragon; 巳 has 午 on it, which is乘 by Tian Kong; the Day Branch 未 has 申 on it, which is乘 by Tai Chang; 申 has 酉 on it, which is乘 by Black Tortoise. Three transmissions: the first transmission is Dingyou, which is the official ghost爻乘 by Black Tortoise; the middle transmission is Wuxu, which is the wife wealth爻乘 by Tai Yin; the final transmission is Jihai, which is the parent爻乘 by Heavenly Empress; 酉, 戌, 亥 proceed in order, which is the so-called "革故从新" lesson mentioned below. The 巳 on the Day Stem is theThe Post-horse of the triple harmony of 亥, 卯, 未, and it is乘 by Azure Dragon; the 申 on the Day Branch is乘 by Tai Chang.

Chen Gongxian said: One should settle in the southeastern water town for stability. Because the Tai Su, Guiren, and Jiesha are present in the day branch, and the Zhe Fu and Yimashu are added to the day stem, it is known that this place will still have military disturbances in the future. Fortunately, the Luo Wang on the day stem meets Kongwang, so the official will certainly be able to escape. However, the昴 star rides the Xuanwu to attack the day stem, and also attacks the Tai Su of next year, forming the image of "changing the old for the new," the time of the event will certainly be in the year of You. Zhang Xianggong thus crossed the river to the south. I comment: In this lesson, the official ghost is present in the third and fourth lessons, why is it not mentioned?

On Yiwei day, the course of Xiaoyan divination for a Zheng surname person with illness (guidance)

In the year of Jichou, eighth lunar month, on the day of Yiwei, at the hour of Xinsi, a friend from Huizhou named Cheng Xiaoyan consulted for a fellow townsman named Zheng about a sickness. This case is recorded in the "Six壬 Guide."

The lesson pattern is exactly the same as in the previous two cases. The outer circle: Zi is accompanied by the Nobleman, Chou by the Teng Snake, Yin by the Vermilion Bird, Mao by Liu He, Chen by Gou Chen, Si by the Azure Dragon, Wu by Tian Kong, Wei by the White Tiger, Shen by Tai Chang, You by the Black Tortoise, Xu by Tai Yin, and Hai by the Heavenly Empress. The four lessons, read from right to left: the Day Stem Yi (located in Chen) has Si accompanied by the Azure Dragon; Si has Wu accompanied by Tian Kong; the Day Branch Wei has Shen accompanied by Tai Chang; Shen has You accompanied by the Black Tortoise. The three transmissions: the first transmission Dingyou is the Official Ghost爻 accompanied by the Black Tortoise, the middle transmission Wuxu is the Wife Wealth爻 accompanied by Tai Yin, and the final transmission Jihai is the Parent爻 accompanied by the Heavenly Empress, continuing the progression of You, Xu, and Hai, forming the pattern of 'renewing by replacing the old'. The Shen on the Day Branch is the absolute point for Yi Wood, and the Si on the Day Stem, according to Chen Gongxian's method, is also the absolute point for Wei Earth. This is what is referred to later as 'mutual absolute points of the heavenly stem and earthly branch'.

Chen Gongxian said: This illness cannot be cured, and the person is already lying on the bed; during the convergence of August and September, it is probably his time of death. Because the day stem and day branch are both in the place of absolute depletion; the day branch's Shen is the absolute depletion of the day stem's Yi wood, and the day stem's Si is the absolute depletion of the day branch's Wei earth. From this we can see that Chen Gongxian used the theory of the Five Phases and the concept of growth. He placed the growth of earth in Shen. The course of the transmission forms an image of renewal. In addition, two post-horses are present on the person's position and the dwelling position, one with the Azure Dragon and one with Tai Chang, which is called the image of filial mourning and paper money. The person seeing the post-horse is not appropriate, so he cannot get up. Moreover, the person is placed on the position of Mao, which represents a bed and a coffin, so it indicates lying in bed without getting up. The three transmissions consist of two yin and one yang, with the middle transmission of Xu placed on the position of You, which is exactly the time of August and September. Later, when the time of September arrived, he died.

On the Yiwei day, Ruan Shifu interpreted the examination for Liu Ruoyi, as recorded in the Guide.

On the day of Yiwei in the second lunar month of the Dingchou year, at the hour of Bingxu, Ruan Shifu, a candidate for the Mingjing examination from Anqing, divined on behalf of Mr. Liu Ru yi for the imperial examination. This case is recorded in the "Six壬 Guide."

The flat layout of the lesson pattern. The outer circle shows the twelve earthly branches with their respective heavenly generals: Shen (Hour of the Monkey) is accompanied by the Nobleman, You (Hour of the Rooster) by the Heavenly Empress, Xu (Hour of the Dog) by Tai Yin, Hai (Hour of the Pig) by the Black Tortoise, Zi (Hour of the Rat) by the Azure Dragon, Chou (Hour of the Ox) by the White Tiger, Yin (Hour of the Tiger) by Tian Kong, Mao (Hour of the Rabbit) by the Azure Dragon, Chen (Hour of the Dragon) by Gou Chen, Si (Hour of the Snake) by Liu He, Wu (Hour of the Horse) by the Vermilion Bird, and Wei (Hour of the Goat) by Teng Snake. At night, the Nobleman is on Shen, and since the time is戌 (Hour of the Dog), which is also night, it matches. The heavenly generals are arranged in reverse order. The four lessons are arranged from right to left: the first lesson has the day stem Yi (with its lodging palace in Chen) with Si (Hour of the Snake) which is accompanied by Liu He; the second lesson has Si with Wu (Hour of the Horse) which is accompanied by the Vermilion Bird; the third lesson has the day branch Wei with Shen (Hour of the Monkey) which is accompanied by the Heavenly Empress; the fourth lesson has Shen with You (Hour of the Rooster) which is accompanied by the Heavenly Empress. The earthly spirits of the four lessons are the same as the first three cases, but with a different set of heavenly generals arranged in reverse. The three transmissions: the first transmission is Dingyou, an official ghost爻 accompanied by the Heavenly Empress; the middle transmission is Wuxu, a wife wealth爻 accompanied by Tai Yin; the final transmission is Jihai, a parent爻 accompanied by the Black Tortoise. This follows the pattern of 'changing the old for the new' with the sequence of You, Xu, and Hai. The Shen on the day branch is exactly where the curtain nobleman is located, and the Vermilion Bird on Wu can generate the Tai Su (yearly master) of Dingchou. The following interpretation about the timing being correct and the prediction of success in the first class examination is derived from these symbols.

Chen Gongxian said that when divining for someone else, he would certainly pass the examination this year. The initiating transmission is the official ghost of the day stem, accompanied by imperial favor, the middle transmission is Hekui and Heavenly Joy, and the final transmission shows growth and the sun, which is most favorable for the examination hall. The day branch also shows the nobleman of the curtain and the official star. The Vermilion Bird is generating the year's stem (the Vermilion Bird is on the horse, which can generate the year's stem, the ox), indicating that the article is elegant and in fashion. The lesson is named "Revolution of the Old and the New," indicating a promotion from the local examination to the first rank, which is certain. However, the day stem and day branch are both in the state of absolute depletion, so official career cannot be far-reaching. Later he was appointed as the chief of the Ministry of Punishment, and then retired calmly without further serving. He once used the same lesson to divinate for a military examination, and two candidates passed. I also used this lesson to divinate illness, and both patients died. (This is based on the earth's depletion in the snake, as water and earth share the same growth.)

On the Yiwei day, divination was made about Li Shusheng's participation in the imperial examination (Guo's case records).

On the Yiwei day of the Dingchou year in the second lunar month, using the Hai general added to the You hour to cast the divination, Jing Shihjun predicted for Li Shusheng, a candidate for the imperial examination, whether he would pass the examination. This example is taken from the "Guo Shi Zhan An." The branches on the Heaven Plate are all two positions ahead of those on the Earth Plate. The Heavenly Generals follow the Heaven Plate: the Nobleman rides the Heaven Plate Zi and arrives at the Earth Plate Xu, the Teng Snake rides Hai and arrives at You, the Vermilion Bird rides Xu and arrives at Shen, the Liu He rides You and arrives at Wei, the Gou Chen rides Shen and arrives at Wu, the Azure Dragon rides Wei and arrives at Si, the Tian Kong rides Wu and arrives at Chen, the Bai Hu rides Si and arrives at Mao, the Tai Chang rides Chen and arrives at Yin, the Xuan Wu rides Mao and arrives at Chou, the Tai Yin rides Yin and arrives at Zi, and the Heavenly Empress rides Chou and arrives at Hai. The four lessons are arranged from right to left: the wood of Yi is lodged in Chen, with Wu on Chen, which is the first lesson; Wu has Shen on it, which is the second lesson; the day branch Wei has You on it, which is the third lesson; You has Hai on it, which is the fourth lesson. The spirits on the four lessons ride in order Tian Kong, Gou Chen, Liu He, and Teng Snake. The three transmissions are Shen, Xu, and Zi: the first transmission is Shen metal riding Gou Chen, with the hidden dry branch being Bing, which is the "official ghost" and it conquers the wood of Yi; the middle transmission is Xu earth riding the Vermilion Bird, with the hidden dry branch being Wu, which is the "wife wealth"; the final transmission is Zi water riding the Nobleman, with the hidden dry branch being Geng, which is the "parents" and it generates the wood of Yi.

Guo Yuqing said: This lesson is called "Crossing Three Deep Pits," which is like wading through three deep pits in succession. Just the name itself is ominous. Moreover, the final transmission is the water of Zi, which although riding on the "Nobleman," is placed on the Earth Plate at Xu. Xu is the land of the Heavenly Net and Earthly Net, and the Nobleman falling into the net is called "Nobleman Falling," indicating that the examiner will not be able to help throughout the process. Although the lesson pattern also includes the "Meeting Vehicle" structure, which usually represents mutual communication and exchange, it ultimately cannot overcome the凶害 of crossing three deep pits. Therefore, at that time, we dared not agree that he could pass the examination, and Jing Shi Jun also understood this meaning. Cheng Shuxun commented: On the day of Yi, the daytime Nobleman is at Zi and the nighttime Nobleman is at Shen. In this lesson, the initial transmission is the metal of Shen, which is overcome by the fire of Wu below, and the final transmission is the water of Zi, which is overcome by the earth of Xu below. Both Noblemen are overcome, so naturally, he cannot pass the examination.

On Yiwei day, Luo Wanzao predicted the imperial examination (Tuo's case of divination).

On the Yiwei day of the Dingchou year in the second lunar month, a divination was cast for Luo Wenzhi, a scholar from Jiangxi named Wan Zao, to inquire about the imperial examination. This example is taken from the "Guo Shi Zhan An." The heavenly branches on the heaven plate are three positions ahead of those on the earth plate. The heavenly generals are arranged as follows: the nobleman rides on the heaven plate zi and is stationed on the earth plate you; the teng snake rides on the heaven plate hai and is stationed on the earth plate shen; the vermilion bird rides on the heaven plate xu and is stationed on the earth plate wei; the liuhe rides on the heaven plate you and is stationed on the earth plate wu; the gouchen rides on the heaven plate shen and is stationed on the earth plate si; the azure dragon rides on the heaven plate wei and is stationed on the earth plate chen; the tiankong rides on the heaven plate wu and is stationed on the earth plate chen; the baihu rides on the heaven plate si and is stationed on the earth plate yin; the taichang rides on the heaven plate chen and is stationed on the earth plate chou; the xuanwu rides on the heaven plate yin and is stationed on the earth plate zi; the taiyin rides on the heaven plate yin and is stationed on the earth plate hai; the tianhou rides on the heaven plate chou and is stationed on the earth plate xu. The four lessons are arranged from right to left: the wood stem yi is lodged in chen, with the earth branch wei on chen, which is the first lesson; the earth branch xu is on wei, which is the second lesson; the earth branch xu is on the day branch wei, which is the third lesson; the earth branch chou is on xu, which is the fourth lesson. The heavenly spirits on the four lessons are successively multiplied by the azure dragon, vermilion bird, vermilion bird, and tianhou. The three transmissions are wei, xu, and chou: the first transmission is the earth branch wei with the azure dragon, with the hidden stem yi; the middle transmission is the earth branch xu with the vermilion bird, with the hidden stem wu; the final transmission is the earth branch chou with the tianhou, with the hidden stem xin. All three transmissions are earth, and they all act as "wife wealth" for the day stem yi wood.

Guo Yuqing said: The earth of the tomb for the wood of Yi is the soil of Wei, which lies on top of the day stem. It coincides with the first transmission as the initiating transmission. The three transmissions are all earth: Wei, Xu, and Chou. A single wood of Yi cannot withstand the heavy earth forces. The chart does not show the night nobleman "Lanmu Nobleman" or the post-horse. There is neither support nor movement. I have long admired the writings of Luo Wenzhi, and once met Li Guangzhuo by chance in his residence. Every time I met a famous person, I cast a chart for him. Only Yu Gongliang, Wanxian, Zhang Jun, and Min Jun received good charts, the rest were not good. At that time I felt anxious and uneasy - among more than eighty people taking the examination, could only Yu Gongliang and the others pass? But when the results were announced, only Zhou and Ma failed. The fate was already determined, and it was like this. Cheng Shuxun remarked: The "Zhi Zhang Fu" says that the chart of a failed examinee has "punishment and harm together," which refers exactly to this kind of chart.

On Yiwei day, someone divined about a lawsuit (the case itself).

On the day of Wu-Yi (May 14th) in the fifth lunar month, using the method of starting the divination with the general of Wei (未) added to the hour of Mao (卯), a person consulted about a legal case. This example is taken from "Fang Ben Zhan An." The branches on the Heaven Plate are four positions ahead of those on the Earth Plate. The configuration of the Heavenly Generals is as follows: the Nobleman is riding on the Heaven Plate Zi and is located on the Earth Plate Shen; the Teng Snake is riding on the Heaven Plate Hai and is located on the Earth Plate Wei; the Vermilion Bird is riding on the Heaven Plate Xu and is located on the Earth Plate Wu; the Liu He is riding on the Heaven Plate You and is located on the Earth Plate Si; the Gou Chen is riding on the Heaven Plate Shen and is located on the Earth Plate Chen; the Azure Dragon is riding on the Heaven Plate Wei and is located on the Earth Plate Mao; the Tian Kong is riding on the Heaven Plate Wu and is located on the Earth Plate Yin; the Bai Hu is riding on the Heaven Plate Si and is located on the Earth Plate Chou; the Tai Chang is riding on the Heaven Plate Chen and is located on the Earth Plate Zi; the Tai Yin is riding on the Heaven Plate Mao and is located on the Earth Plate You; the Tian Hou is riding on the Heaven Plate Chou and is located on the Earth Plate Xu. The four lessons are arranged from right to left: the wood branch Yi is lodged in Chen, with Shen on Chen, which is the first lesson; Shen has Zi on it, which is the second lesson; the day branch Wei has Hai on it, which is the third lesson; Hai has Mao on it, which is the fourth lesson. The spirits on the four lessons are successively riding on Gou Chen, the Nobleman, the Teng Snake, and the Black Tortoise. The three transmissions are Hai, Mao, and Wei: the first transmission is Hai water riding the Teng Snake, with the hidden dry branch Ji, which generates Yi wood, representing "parents"; the second transmission is Mao wood riding the Black Tortoise, with the hidden dry branch Gui, which is of the same type as Yi, representing "brothers"; the third transmission is Wei earth riding the Azure Dragon, with the hidden dry branch Yi, representing "spouse's wealth." Hai, Mao, and Wei form a wood trinity.

Shao Yanhe said: This person was about to be put in chains and imprisoned when he appeared, but later remained safe. Because the day stem's heavenly stem, which is ethically associated with the god of justice, is Shen metal, which is riding on Gou Chen and affecting Yi. Shen metal overcoming Yi wood is the official ghost, and Gou Chen also signifies chains and imprisonment, so there was a danger of being imprisoned. However, Shen is also the day virtue of Yi (Yi combines with Geng, and Shen contains Geng). The final transmission, Wei earth, is also riding on Azure Dragon, which provides a solution amidst the danger, so in the end there was no harm. Later, he was indeed put in chains on the day of Bingshen, and was soon released. The three transmissions, Hai, Mao, and Wei, form a wood trinity, making it a "qu zhi" lesson, which exactly corresponds to the principle of first bending and then stretching.

In the year of Wuzi, sixth lunar month, on the day of Yiwei, the class was cast by placing the hour of You (卯) with the hour stem of You (未). The diviner in southern Shanxi received this class and asked what official position it represented. This example is taken from the "Six Yin Guide." The class format is the same as the previous example: the branches on the Heaven Plate are four positions ahead of those on the Earth Plate. The Nobleman is riding on the Heaven Plate's Zi and is located on the Earth Plate's Chen. The Teng Snake is riding on the Heaven Plate's Hai and is located on the Earth Plate's Wei. The Vermilion Bird is riding on the Heaven Plate's Xu and is located on the Earth Plate's Wu. The Liu He is riding on the Heaven Plate's You and is located on the Earth Plate's Si. The Gou Chen is riding on the Heaven Plate's Shen and is located on the Earth Plate's Chen. The Azure Dragon is riding on the Heaven Plate's Wei and is located on the Earth Plate's Mao. The Tian Kong is riding on the Heaven Plate's Wu and is located on the Earth Plate's Yin. The Bai Hu is riding on the Heaven Plate's Si and is located on the Earth Plate's Chou. The Tai Chang is riding on the Heaven Plate's Chen and is located on the Earth Plate's Zi. The Tai Yin is riding on the Heaven Plate's Mao and is located on the Earth Plate's Hai. The Heavenly Empress is riding on the Heaven Plate's Chou and is located on the Earth Plate's You. The four lessons, from right to left, are Shen added to Yi (Yi's lodging palace is Chen), Zi added to Shen, Hai added to Wei, and Mao added to Hai. The upper gods in order are Gou Chen, Nobleman, Teng Snake, and Xuan Wu. The three transmissions are Hai, Mao, and Wei: the first transmission is Hai water riding Teng Snake, with the hidden stem Ji, representing "parents"; the middle transmission is Mao wood riding Xuan Wu, with the hidden stem Ji, representing "brothers"; the final transmission is Wei earth riding Azure Dragon, with the hidden stem Yi, representing "spouse's wealth."

Chen Gongxian said: This must be an official in charge of matters related to forests, boats, and vehicles. The person is not of the imperial examination background, yet holds an office that is usually held by those who passed the imperial examination. In the future, his official rank will be great. Because in the summer month, the wood element is strong, which is the time when branches and leaves are flourishing. Moreover, the first transmission is accompanied by 'Teng Snake' and the final transmission by 'Azure Dragon', meaning the snake transforms into a dragon, indicating that his official position will be glorious. However, because the night nobleman 'Lanmu Nobleman' is seated in the Kongwang position, he did not enter office through the imperial examination. The卯 (Mao) element, which is associated with forests and vehicles, appears in the middle transmission, so it is known that he is an official in charge of vehicles. Someone asked what kind of official it is. The answer was: The official seal line is the initiating transmission, and the final transmission meets 'Imperial Grace', so he must be an official appointed through inherited privilege. Another question was asked: Can he be promoted to the position of military commander? The answer was: The official star is above the day stem, and the biased official star is above the day branch. He will first be promoted to the position of prefect, then transferred to the position of provincial governor. The person said: This is the divination lesson for Liu Gongbu of Qingjiang. Later, he indeed was promoted to the position of magistrate of Zhenjiang.

On Yiwei day, Xu Dicun divined about his mother's illness (Pastoral Divination Verification).

In the year of Jima, eighth lunar month, on the day of Yiwei, using the method of starting the divination with the general of Chen added to the Zi hour, Xu Dicun consulted about his mother's illness. The patient was born in the year of Jichou and was fifty-one years old. This case is taken from Wang Mufu's divination records. The Zi hour belongs to night time. On the day of Yi, the nobleman is located in Shen. The nobleman is on the earth plate at Chen, which belongs to the yang side. The heavenly generals are arranged in order: the nobleman is on the heaven plate at Shen and on the earth plate at Chen; the Teng Snake is on You and on Si; the Vermilion Bird is on Xu and on Wu; the Liu He is on Hai and on Wei; the Gou Chen is on Zi and on Shen; the Azure Dragon is on Chou and on You; the Tian Kong is on Yin and on Xu; the White Tiger is on Mao and on Hai; the Tai Chang is on Chen and on Zi; the Black Tortoise is on Si and on Chou; the Tai Yin is on Wu and on Yin; and the Heavenly Empress is on Wei and on Mao. The four lessons are arranged from right to left: Yi is located in Chen, with Shen on Chen, which is the first lesson; Shen has Zi on it, which is the second lesson; the day branch Wei has Hai on it, which is the third lesson; and Hai has Mao on it, which is the fourth lesson. The upper gods are successively accompanied by the nobleman, Gou Chen, Liu He, and White Tiger. The three transmissions, Hai, Mao, and Wei, form a wood trinity: the first transmission is water at Hai, accompanied by Liu He, with the hidden dry branch Ji, which represents 'parents'; the middle transmission is wood at Mao, accompanied by White Tiger, with the hidden dry branch Gui, which represents 'brothers'; and the final transmission is earth at Wei, accompanied by Heavenly Empress, with the hidden dry branch Yi, which represents 'spouse wealth'.

Wang Mufu said: If this divination is about a man's illness, it may still be treatable; but if it is about a woman's illness, it is difficult to treat and ultimately ominous. This is because for women, the day branch is the main focus. The day branch is in the position of Wei, which is theStorage of Yi wood. The three transmissions, Hai, Mao, and Wei, form a wood triad, which in turn counteracts the earth element of the day branch. The fundamental constitution is already weak. As for the cause of the illness, it is mostly due to a combination of wind and dampness, with the liver meridian being the most accurate diagnosis. The wood triad, which is of the "curved and straight" type, is responsible for generating wind. The Hai water element indicates phlegm, and the invasion of wood qi leads to dampness. The White Tiger is on the Mao, which also has the癸 dry branch hidden within it. The Mao is originally the禄神 of Yi day, but now it shows the "closed mouth" sign, indicating that the person cannot take in food. The White Tiger is in the middle transmission, indicating the illness is in the middle jiao. The person's birth day is Chou, and the upper god of Chou has the驿马 at Si, which is also occupied by the Black Tortoise. This indicates that the soul and spirit have already left the body. Wood represents a weak and thin physique. The Wei is the "Wind God" in the class of gods, and it is also the墓 of Yi wood. The wind is hidden inside and cannot be released, so the illness is getting worse day by day, and it cannot be cured by medicine.

The guardian deity "Yi Shen" has also fallen into the Storage position, making it impossible to get help. Moreover, the original birth day's巳 (Si) and戌 (Xu) are in mutual partnership, and with the Middle Transmission's卯 (Mao), they form the "Cast Seal" pattern, revealing a fatal sign. Furthermore, the Tai Su of the Ji Mao year is the卯 (Mao) wood, which is riding on the White Tiger, exactly the official ghost of the day branch's未 (Wei) earth. The illness is naturally severe. The days of巳 and亥 are probably unavoidable. Later, he indeed died on the days of巳 and亥. The day of亥 is particularly dangerous because the亥 (Hai) water conflicts with the original birth day's巳 (Si) fire; once the巳 is broken by the conflict, the "Cast Seal" pattern is destroyed, how can one live long? If it were a man consulting, the亥 (Hai) water on the day branch would be the long life position of the乙 (Yi) wood, and the wood cycle would generate itself, so he would not die.

On the Yiwei day, the scholar童 (Tong) consulted about his future prospects (from Fang Ben's divination case records·Oral Insights).

In the year Jiyou, third month, seventeenth day, Yiwei, using the戌 general added to the巳 hour to cast the divination, a scholar named Wuyin, born in the year Wuyin, thirty-three years old, asked about his future. This example is taken from the "Fang Ben Zhan An" and "Kou Jian." The branches on the Heaven Plate are five positions ahead of those on the Earth Plate. The巳 hour belongs to the day time, and on the day of Yi, the nobleman is in the position of Zi. The nobleman is on the Earth Plate at Wei, which is the Yin position. The heavenly generals are arranged in reverse order: the nobleman is on the Heaven Plate at Zi and on the Earth Plate at Wei; the Teng Snake is on the Heaven Plate at Hai and on the Earth Plate at Wu; the Vermilion Bird is on the Heaven Plate at Xu and on the Earth Plate at Si; the Liu He is on the Heaven Plate at You and on the Earth Plate at Chen; the Gou Chen is on the Heaven Plate at Shen and on the Earth Plate at Mao; the Azure Dragon is on the Heaven Plate at Wei and on the Earth Plate at Yin; the Tian Kong is on the Heaven Plate at Wu and on the Earth Plate at Chou; the Bai Hu is on the Heaven Plate at Si and on the Earth Plate at Zi; the Tai Chang is on the Heaven Plate at Chen and on the Earth Plate at Hai; the Xuan Wu is on the Heaven Plate at Mao and on the Earth Plate at Xu; the Tai Yin is on the Heaven Plate at Yin and on the Earth Plate at You; the Heavenly Empress is on the Heaven Plate at Yin and on the Earth Plate at Shen. The four lessons are arranged from right to left: the Yi is lodged in the position of Chen, with the position of You on Chen, which is the first lesson; the position of Yin is on You, which is the second lesson; the position of Wei on the day branch is with the position of Zi, which is the third lesson; the position of Zi is with the position of Si, which is the fourth lesson. The upper spirits are successively multiplied by Liu He, Tai Yin, Nobleman, and Bai Hu. The three transmissions are Si, Xu, and Mao: the first transmission is Si fire with Bai Hu, Si is the empty position (the day of Yiwei belongs to the Jiawu decade, the empty position is in Chen and Si), which is the "son" of the wood of Yi; the middle transmission is Xu earth with the Vermilion Bird, the hidden dry is Wu, which is the "wife's wealth"; the final transmission is Mao wood with Xuan Wu, the hidden dry is Ji, which is the "brother."

Shao Yanhe said: The day stem is connected with the god酉 metal, which is riding on the Liu He. This indicates that the person is likely to have a hemorrhoid resembling a lotus flower, which arises from anger during sexual activity. How do we know it is related to sexual activity? The god酉 belongs to the category of gods associated with sexual desire. How do we know it is anger? The metal of酉 is capable of overcoming the wood of Yi, and it also overcomes the hidden Yi wood in the day branch of Wei. Wood belongs to the liver, and the liver governs anger. What else could it be but anger during sexual activity? The main wife is unable to bear children, and one must rely on the offspring from a concubine. In the four lessons, the third lesson is occupied by a lower god that is stealing from the upper god, which indicates that the person's future prospects will not develop well.

The first transmission is the fire of巳, riding on the White Tiger, indicating a need to be cautious about water-related dangers concerning children. The first transmission is precisely the grandson's hexagram, but it is placed on the Earth Plate's water of子, and it is further afflicted by theInauspicious General White Tiger. Moreover, it is being overcome by the water below, so it is predicted that the children will suffer from drowning disasters. The middle transmission is the earth of戌: since戌 is yang and乙 is yin,戌 is the proper wife of the day stem. It is placed on the empty巳 (the grandson's hexagram), so where can a son come from? Moreover,戌 is precisely theStorage of the grandson's fire hexagram. The middle transmission is also riding on the Vermilion Bird, so one should also be cautious about the wife suffering from burns or scalds. The final transmission is the wood of卯, riding on the Black Tortoise, indicating a need to be cautious about injuries to the hands or feet when going out or riding. The god of documents is located on the盗气, so one's prospects will be difficult to achieve. The nobleman on the house hexagram is in six harm with the day stem, and the wealth and official rank of the final transmission falls into盗气. After thirty years, one will die in disappointment.

The day stem is connected to the god酉, which is riding on 「Liu He」. The酉 represents blood, and the image of Liu He is a lotus. Since it is also overcoming the day stem itself, it is interpreted as a hemorrhoid resembling a lotus. The巳 fire represents children, but the巳 falls in the旬空, and also rides on the White Tiger. The wife's爻, which is戌, also falls on the empty position of巳. Thus, there are no children and the wife is also harmed. Later, in the Xinhai year, a great flood occurred, and the son almost drowned; in the Dingsi year, the wife was burned on her foot after drinking alcohol; in the Yimao year, he rode a horse into the city and broke his left foot—everything predicted was fulfilled. At the age of sixty-two, due to the division of family property among his nephews, he became depressed and died.

Yi wood takes Xu earth as its wealth, but Xu is riding on Kongwang. The final transmission is also stolen by Xuanwu, the thief god, thus leading to loss of wealth. The number of卯 is six, and the number of Xu is five. Six and five multiplied together make thirty, so it is said that he will die thirty years later. Looking at the verification, each step is extremely precise, and Zhao Master did not make a mistake. In the Xinhai year,亥 and巳 are in opposition, which moves the son's爻. Therefore, it should be related to the son. The wife's爻 Xu is placed on巳, and巳 belongs to fire while Xu represents the foot. The foot is placed on fire, which is nothing but burning the foot. Since it is on the position of巳, it should be in the year of巳.

The Trigram Mao represents an ass in the category of animals. It is also the禄神 (favorable deity) for the day of Yi, so it should not be considered ominous. However, when it is combined with the Black Tortoise, it becomes ominous. Since an ass is similar to a horse, the wood of Mao overcomes the earth of Xu, which governs the feet, thus causing a broken foot. Yang represents the left, and Yin represents the right. Xu belongs to Yang, so the left foot is broken. Since Mao is combined with the Black Tortoise and is also attacked by You metal, it is judged as an accident occurring while riding. If there were no You to attack, such an accident might not occur. Generally, Mao relates to boats, vehicles, doors, palanquins, and donkeys and mules. When it is attacked by You, it indicates overturning or falling. I have tested this repeatedly and it has proven accurate.
