Two-Character Formula
Charting guides: Da Liu Ren Chart Calculator, Jin Kou Jue Chart
When divining for someone, there are ten things that must not be altered or changed: the three transmissions, the day branch along with the time of the inquiry, plus the person's age, the year's master, and the person's own destiny. If specific characters are found in these positions, one can determine danger and difficulties. The term 'ten' is calculated as follows: the three transmissions count as three, the person's age and destiny count as two, and adding the year's master, the direction of the person, the heavenly stem above the day, the heavenly stem above the hour, and the exact hour, making a total of ten. If the divination does not fall within these ten categories, the most important for determining good or bad fortune are the heavenly stem above the day, the three transmissions, the person's destiny, and the person's age, which are six in total. The remaining four should also be considered together.
Among the six places, if the characters寅 and亥 appear, the person is likely to fall ill. If the three transmissions, the year's stem, the day's stem, and the heavenly stem on the day all show寅 and亥 with vitality and they control the day's stem, and there is no saving god, then illness is certain. If the person's path on that day or one of the six places also shows寅 or亥 with vitality and they control the day's stem, it will definitely come true. If the characters寅 and辰 appear, it indicates a prolonged legal matter. If the lesson pattern, three transmissions, the year's stem, the day's stem, and the heavenly stem on the day all show寅 and辰, there will be legal disputes. Further examine the person's path on that day and the six places; if Gou Chen or Vermilion Bird control the day's stem, it can be concluded as an official matter. Even if Gou Chen does not control the day's stem, if the first transmission and the day's stem are both in captivity or in the墓地, it will still indicate legal issues.
When the characters 子 and 卯 appear, it indicates the presence of thieves or theft. If the lesson contains 子 and 卯, there is likely to be theft. If there is also the Black Tortoise (元武) overcoming the day stem (日干) or the Black Tortoise overcoming the wealth爻, this will also be accurate. Even if the Black Tortoise does not overcome the day stem or the wealth爻, if the wealth爻 falls into Kongwang or is overcome by the lower god, it also indicates loss of wealth due to theft. If we go further, even if the wealth爻 does not fall into Kongwang nor is it overcome by the lower god, but the wealth爻 is occupied by the Black Tortoise, then the wealth will be lost to thieves. If theYin Spirit of the Black Tortoise overcomes the day stem, there will certainly be unexpected loss of money. When making the divination, one must carefully distinguish. If the Post-horse (驿马) appears along with 巳 or 亥, the person is on the road. 巳 and 亥 originally indicate movement in and out, if among the six positions there is the Black Tortoise riding the Post-horse, the Six丁 God, or the wandering god, it indicates going to another place to seek wealth. Also, if the Heaven Plate's correct hour is added to the Post-horse, it indicates a long journey, and the reasoning is the same.
The trigrams Chou and Wu both enter the Three Transmissions, often indicating slander and disputes: if both Chou and Wu are present among the six places, it indicates being cursed and constant disputes; if the six places also include the Vermilion Bird, the prediction is even more accurate. The trigrams You and Wei combined often lead to separation between a daughter-in-law and her mother-in-law: Wei is the trigram of separation, and You is the trigram of solitude. If among these two trigrams there is a hidden Heavenly Stem that overcomes the Day Stem and falls within the six places, there will certainly be separation between husband and wife; if it also meets the angle trigram, the prediction is even more accurate. The method of calculating the angle trigram is: starting from Wei, the sequence is Chen, Wei, Xu, Chou; starting from You, the sequence is Wu, You, Zi, Mao, all of which are called angle trigrams. If the year trigram also stands for the trigram of separation, the prediction will be even more accurate.
If the person is uncertain in their mind, look at Shengguang and Chuansong: Chuansong is Shen, which belongs to the lung in the body; Shengguang is Wu, which belongs to the heart in the body. Wu placed on Shen indicates doubt arising in the heart. If Hekui falls on the year pillar and is accompanied by Yuanwu, then the person causing harm is a man with a beard, which is certain: Hekui accompanied by Yuanwu, with the hidden heavenly stem that emerges again being able to overcome the day stem, indicates that a man with a beard comes to cause harm.
The Collection of Communicating with the Divine
TheInauspicious Spirit has reached aInauspicious Spirit position: for example, if on a Jia day, the申 or酉 is used as the initiating transmission, or if the hidden heavenly stem is Geng or Xin, then it is the White Tiger. If the White Tiger falls in the three transmissions, the year pillar, or the day's heavenly stem, and coincides with the day's three punishments, four evils, six clashes, or six harms, then it becomes even more凶. Conversely, if the White Tiger is in the triple harmony,Liu He position, or combines with the noble god's heavenly stem, although it is凶, it can be reduced by half. AInauspicious Spirit with evil spirits and being punished, with no power to control it below: whenever aInauspicious Spirit orInauspicious General is accompanied by evil spirits, and sits on the three punishments, six harms, four evils, or conflicting positions, and the earth plate has no power to control it, it is a great凶. If the position it occupies is lower overcoming the upper, theInauspicious Spirit is controlled, and the degree of凶 is slightly reduced. On a Wu day, the寅 is the White Tiger with evil spirits, and if it is located on the亥 position, this is called being punished, which is a great凶 and indicates death; however, if the hidden heavenly stem in the亥 can overcome the寅, then the凶 is reduced by half.
It seems there is a way to save, but in reality, it cannot save and instead harms again: if the White Tiger is accompanied by a malevolent force and suffers from punishment, thus overcoming the day stem, it is凶. If the three transmissions, the year's stem, the person's birth stem, or the heavenly stem on the day can overcome the White Tiger, then it is a saving god. However, one must also look at which one arrives first: if the saving god arrives first, it is auspicious; if it arrives later, it is ineffective. For example, if on a Wu day, the寅 is the White Tiger and is placed on the亥, the water in亥 nourishes the wood in寅, so the White Tiger gains strength first, thus still indicating misfortune. Another example is when the庚 or辛, along with the申 or酉, appear in the three transmissions. Although they are controlled by the lower heavenly stems, it seems there is a path through the triple harmony. However, if they encounter the four malevolent forces, the three punishments, conflict, or the six harmful relationships, they end up being controlled themselves. The saving god arrives later and thus cannot save, so it is not necessary to use it. At this point, severe cases may lead to official troubles or exile, and after death, entering the underworld. Lighter cases may still suffer from financial loss and legal disputes: all these malevolent forces are most dangerous when they are accompanied by malevolent forces, suffer from punishment, and overcome the day stem. Severe cases may result in death, while lighter ones may lead to financial loss and legal issues.
A fortunate general arrives, accompanied by a fortunate deity, and further supported by a favorable malevolent spirit that resides together with the day branch. The Azure Dragon, Liu He, and Tai Chang are all fortunate generals; as long as the deities they ride upon do not fight or overcome each other, and do not overcome the day stem, but instead generate it, it is favorable. Even if the White Tiger or Black Tortoise appear, as long as they generate the day stem, it is suitable for seeking wealth and traveling far, and encountering an official is also auspicious. The classic says that when fortunate deities and generals generate each other, joy and seeking wealth will surely succeed; the "Baojian Jing" also says that when fortunate deities support the day stem, the position they occupy is not restrained, and there is no other harm, so everything is extremely favorable. Conversely, if restrained, it is not considered favorable, but merely average. When fortunate deities are not met by the Relief Deity to relieve them and can generate each other, it naturally indicates promotion in official position and accumulation of blessings and wealth. Fortunate deities most fear the Relief Deity; once the Relief Deity appears, all good things vanish; if the one coming to relieve is a malevolent deity, it is actually favorable.
Five Evils
Water overcomes Earth.
When the well falls into the river, life and death are in serious danger; matters concerning people fleeing or bandits should also be judged by the same method. When the Heavenly River and the Earthly Well are combined and appear in the divination, one should be cautious: the combination of Wu and Chen is called the Heavenly River, and the combination of Zi and Mao is called the Earthly Well; another view is that Chen is the Heavenly River and Wei is the Earthly Well. When encountering this pattern, searching for fugitives or bandits should be done near water sources.
The Heavenly River and Earthly Well combine precisely over the Day Stem and Day Branch, and the Day Branch itself is also in the position of water; if the Three Transmissions are all metal without any earth to interrupt, the person going out will have to beware of drowning. That is to say: the Day Stem is in a position of water, the Three Transmissions form either the Metal triad of Si-You-Chou or the Water triad of Shen-Zi-Chen, and the Heavenly River is pressing over the Earthly Well, which certainly indicates that someone will drown in water.
The Black Tortoise if riding on卯 and子, and also appearing on辰 and added to未, will complete the ominous signs of天河 and地井. If this group of malevolent spirits further attacks the day stem and day branch, it certainly indicates death by drowning in a well. Since未 contains井, if water energy is strong in the three transmissions and the Black Tortoise appears in the transmission, the calamity will certainly occur near water, or even death by drowning. For example, on an Yiyou day, if辰 is placed on未, it is exactly天河 pressing down on地井. If the day stem is also in the position ofKongwang, encountering such a divination will surely result in drowning.
Fire is harmful.
Fire malevolent spirits start from the戌 position and proceed in reverse order through the twelve earthly branches, which is known as the Month Aversion. If the Teng Snake or Vermilion Bird come to overcome the heavenly stem or the earthly branch of the day, the fire calamity becomes evident. The fire candle malevolent spirit starts from the巳 position and proceeds in the normal order through the twelve earthly branches. To determine whether this fire calamity affects a person or a house, the distinction is simple: if it overcomes the day stem, it affects the person; if it overcomes the day branch, it affects the house.
The Earthly Branch "土" is considered to be evil.
The Three Transmissions and the natal stem of the person's age both belong to the Earth element, and the position they occupy also coincides with the Kongwang star. When Earth falls into Kongwang, it will collapse. The day stem itself is also an Earth deity, so misfortune will manifest in falling from a cliff, collapsing walls, or the collapse of a house. That is to say, the Three Transmissions and the natal stem of the person's age are both Wood elements that overcome Earth, and the day stem itself is Earth. When this is established in the Kongwang position, it definitely indicates that the person will fall from a cliff or experience a house collapse. If the chart also contains Teng Snake and White Tiger, it signifies a death omen.
Metal hates Wood.
The person's age and their natal stem, together with the three transmissions, are all located between the jiesha, wangshen, the mourning-and-condolence spirit, and the guest spirit. The day stem is of wood and is being harmed by metal, which brings in a harmful spirit. It also violates the blood branch and blood taboo, leading to blood-related injuries. This means: if the day stem is wood and there is a ghostly spirit that harms the day, combined with the blood branch and blood taboo, it definitely indicates blood disorders or death by blade. The methods for calculating these evil spirits are as follows: jiesha is located in亥 in the first lunar month, and then proceeds in reverse order through the four young months; the mourning-and-condolence spirit is two positions before the heavenly stem, and the guest spirit is two positions after the heavenly stem; the blood branch starts in丑 in the first lunar month and proceeds in order through the twelve earthly branches; the blood taboo starts in丑 in the first lunar month, in未 in the second, in寅 in the third, in申 in the fourth, in卯 in the fifth, in酉 in the sixth, in辰 in the seventh, in戌 in the eighth, in巳 in the ninth, in亥 in the tenth, in午 in the eleventh, and in子 in the twelfth.
Wood dislikes Fire.
The day stem and day branch belong to wood but their energy is already weak, and they are further afflicted by true metal that comes to overcome them. There is no fire in the three transmissions to control the metal, so the matter will become obstructed and difficult to proceed. The initiating transmission god falls into the kongwang position, and when wood falls into kongwang it will break, resulting in an ominous sign of a tree falling and branches breaking, causing injury to the body.
Two tigers release.
This malevolent spirit begins in the辰 (Chen) position in the first lunar month, and the White Tiger overlaps with it, causing a harmful influence on oneself. If the year of the person's age also has the female White Tiger evil spirit, then when encountering a blade, there will actually be a bloodshed similar to a tiger attacking a person. The method of calculating the White Tiger evil spirit is to start from the辰 (Chen) position in the first lunar month and proceed in the order of the twelve earthly branches. The method for calculating the female White Tiger evil spirit is the same. It will only take effect when it coincides with the White Tiger.
Self-inflicted hanging
Heavenly and earthly knots are two malevolent forces that when they meet, the White Tiger is also involved with the silk and hemp evil spirit, and then combines with Kongwang. This creates ainauspicious sign of hanging by the neck in broad daylight. The method of calculating the Heavenly Knot is that in the first month it is in the辰 branch, and proceeds in the order of the twelve earthly branches. When the White Tiger meets the silk and hemp evil spirit, it indicates suicide by hanging. The method of calculating the silk and hemp evil spirit is that in the first month it is in the卯 branch, and proceeds in the order of the four middle branches. In fact, this is the same as the Taohua and Xianchi evil spirits. There is another version that says in spring it is in the寅 branch, in summer in the午 branch, in autumn in the酉 branch, and in winter in the子 branch.
Chapter on Explaining Illnesses
To determine whether a patient is alive or dead, one should look at Teng Snake and White Tiger: for a man's illness, observe White Tiger; for a woman's illness, observe Heavenly Empress; for a child's illness, observe Teng Snake; another text says that for a young girl, observe Tai Yin. These all fear their own Yin spirits attacking the Day Stem. Yin spirits and Yang spirits must also be distinguished as host and guest: for a man's fate, it is bad if White Tiger's Yin spirit attacks the Day Stem; for a woman's fate, it is bad if White Tiger's Yang spirit attacks the Day Stem. If a Yang fate is harmed by a Yin spirit, the person will surely die. If a Yin fate is harmed by a Yang spirit, the family must hold a funeral.
The White Tiger, Heavenly Empress, and Teng Snake, if they overcome the day stem, will certainly worsen the illness. Men fear the White Tiger, women fear the Heavenly Empress, and children fear the Teng Snake. Each of their yin and yang spirits has one that overcomes the day stem, and if the day stem is weak or falls in Kongwang, death is certain. If both the yin and yang spirits occupy strong positions, and the year stem is also overcome by them, death is unavoidable. The term 'each' means that the yin and yang spirits each have strong positions; if they overcome the day stem, death is certain, and if they overcome the year stem, death is also certain.
Among the Five Phases, if the Day Stem and the hour of divination both fall into a tomb, and also the places of death,绝地, and Kongwang are to be avoided; in such a situation, even if there is a saving deity, it still indicates misfortune. As for whether the outcome is favorable or unfavorable, it depends on whether the Day Stem receives support. In other words: the most dangerous situation is when the Day Stem of the current day and the main hour fall into a tomb together, or when White Tiger, Heavenly Empress, and Teng Snake also fall into a tomb; at this time, even if these elements do not harm the Day Stem, the patient will still die. If there is no tomb involved, but the Day Stem is located in a death place or绝地, it is still ominous. In such cases, even if there are saving deities or Relief Deities, they will not be of any help.
A child from one to fifteen years old is most afraid of the Teng Snake overcoming the day stem; if this happens, it is fatal. For girls, the Teng Snake's yin spirit overcoming the day stem is also fatal. For men aged fifteen to fifty, they should avoid the White Tiger being in command while their own energy is weak, which is dangerous; women of the same age should also avoid the White Tiger's yin spirit and the decline of the Heavenly Empress, as being overcome by them is also fatal. For men aged fifty to ninety, they should avoid the White Tiger being prosperous and strong to overcome them; women of the same age should avoid the Heavenly Empress being prosperous and strong, as encountering this is fatal, so elderly women should most avoid the Heavenly Empress being strong. As for the White Tiger entering its tomb, young people still fear it, but the elderly do not.
This passage discusses the correspondence between the White Tiger's yin and yang spirits and male and female elements, which differs from what was previously mentioned. For now, both interpretations will be considered. The following example is a divination concerning illness, specifically classified under children's ailments: the heavenly stem on the day is the White Tiger, and the hidden stem and branch is Gengwu, which attacks the day stem, indicating death. Its yin spirit is associated with Liu He, and the hidden stem and branch at the time is Gengxu, which also attacks the day stem. Additionally, the year pillar shows Teng Snake, leading to all aspects being ominous. Because Teng Snake falls on the year pillar, the diagnosis is made regarding a child's illness.
This is an example of divination: In the fifth month, with Wei as the month general, the lesson is cast on the day Jiashen at the hour Dingmao. The person consulting the divination has a birth stem of Yisi. The following is the layout of the lesson. The top three lines, from top to bottom, are the three transmissions: the first transmission is Chen, the middle transmission is Shen, and the final transmission is Zi, which together form the water triad of Shen-Zi-Chen. The next two lines are the four lessons: the line below, from right to left, is the day stem Ji, the day branch Shen, and the lower gods of the third and fourth lessons, Wu and Xu; the line above is their respective upper gods, meaning that Ji is seen by Wu, Wu is seen by Xu, Shen is seen by Zi, and Zi is seen by Chen. Among the four lessons, only Chen earth overcoming Zi water is an instance of upper overcoming lower, so Chen is taken as the initiating transmission. The twelve characters forming a square at the bottom are the earth branch compass, used to indicate the positions where the heaven plate is placed over the earth plate.
A lesson showing the presence of a hearse, a spade, and a mattock at the gate is very ominous for illness. The snake chariot is represented by the巳 branch, the spade by申, and the mattock by酉. These three are particularly feared in divination for illness. Additionally, the mourning robe evil and the death deity are both in a strong position. The mourning robe evil starts in巳 during the first months of the four seasons, in辰 during the second months, and in丑 during the third months. The death deity begins in巳 in the first lunar month and proceeds in order through the twelve earthly branches. If the death deity is in the same position as the day stem or if it overcomes the day stem, the person will certainly cry. The mourning robe evil is especially dangerous if it appears on the grandson's position. Even if there is a relief deity to generate and support or to resolve the situation, the illness will still remain stagnant and difficult. The white tiger overcomes the day stem, the five phases have entered the墓 (burial), and there are alsoInauspicious Sha (evil spirits) like the hearse. Even if there is a saving deity to reduce the danger, it is still difficult to survive.
The heavenly stem at the day's position acts as a saving deity and is appropriate for the time of divination: whenever a凶将 such as White Tiger controls the day's heavenly stem, it indicates that the illness will result in death. However, if the heavenly stem at the day's position is able to control the White Tiger, it becomes a saving force, and the person will not die. If the heavenly stem at the day's position also has strength at the time of divination, the matter being divined will not be feared at all. The White Tiger's shadow deity fights against it itself: when the White Tiger is placed on the earth plate, it is mutually controlling with the upper and lower positions, and the shadow deity also controls the White Tiger. In such a case, even though the White Tiger controls the day's heavenly stem, it is not considered凶. Although the divination contains凶 deities, they all fall into a state of decline, so even long-standing chronic illnesses will surely recover. The shadow deity and the bright deity of the White Tiger mutually control and attack each other, and they are placed in a state of decline. Even long-standing diseases will also recover.
This is another example of divination: the person consulting the divination has a destiny of Dingyou. In the eleventh month, Chou is the month general. The divination is cast on the day of Guichou, at the hour of Renzi. The person asking the question has a destiny of You. The following is the divination chart. The top three lines are the three transmissions, with the first transmission being Yin, the middle transmission Mao, and the final transmission Chen, in sequence. The next two lines are the four lessons: the line below, from right to left, consists of the day stem Gui, the day branch Chou, and the lower gods Yin and Yin for the third and fourth lessons. The line above is their respective upper gods, meaning Yin is seen on Gui, Yin is seen on Chou, Mao is seen on Yin, and Mao is seen on Yin. The twelve characters forming a circle at the bottom are the earthly branches compass. The day stem is Gui water, and the destiny is You, which is the basis for the following analysis.
The heavenly stem of the day is癸 water, and the superior deity governing the酉 metal is戌 earth. The戌 earth is capable of overcoming the癸 water day stem, and the heavenly general accompanying it is the White Tiger, indicating a dangerous illness with a risk to life. Fortunately, the deity above the day is寅 wood, which can overcome the戌 earth, acting as a saving deity. At that time, it is sufficient to control the White Tiger, so the person does not die. Whenever the deity above the day provides a rescue, all kinds of illnesses will not turn into dangerous conditions. This is called "the door of illness has a savior."
Chapter on the Manifestations of Diseases
The first transmission being both upper and lower earth is called heavy earth, indicating obstruction in the throat. The first transmission represents the day the illness began; even if there is no heavy earth, if the White Tiger is present, it still indicates throat disease, which is most important. What is feared is the element that overcomes the day stem's long life position, which is also a凶气, referring to the spirit at the long life position of the day stem. If both upper and lower are metal, it is called heavy metal, indicating illness in the abdomen and flowing tears and snot, because heavy metal overcomes wood, and wood in the human body corresponds to the liver, so it indicates liver disease. If both upper and lower are water, it is called heavy water, indicating stagnation of heart energy and pain in the lower abdomen, because heavy water overcomes fire, and fire corresponds to the heart, so it indicates heart disease. If both upper and lower are wood, it is called heavy wood, indicating abdominal distension like a drum.
When both the upper and lower parts are fire, it is called double fire, and this indicates a condition of shortness of breath and rapid breathing. If there is no double god in the chart, then use the White Tiger as the main factor to determine the illness. When predicting the nature of the illness, if the first transmission involves a double god, it indicates that the illness comes on suddenly. First of all, be cautious of the controlling element; secondly, be cautious of the White Tiger controlling the day stem. If this happens, death is certain. If the double god in the first transmission can control the controlling element, and the White Tiger does not control the day stem, then although the illness is severe, it is not a serious problem. The Five Phases must be combined with the five internal organs of the human body. Both the upward and downward elements, as well as the White Tiger and the double god, should be considered in the same way. The term upward and downward refers to the double god, meaning that both the upper and lower parts are of the same element, such as both being earth or both being metal.
Here I will explain again: discussing the mutual harm between the Five Phases and the five internal organs, whenever the gods on the Heaven Plate and the Earth Plate belong to the same category, it is called yǎngfú. If the first transmission is not a repeated god, then only the White Tiger is used for judgment, and there is no problem. The term 'qi' refers to the god located at the position of the day stem's growth. If the repeated god is neither in a favorable position nor in season, it is still okay, and the same method is used for judgment.
The use god is Taiyi in the branch of Si, and the heavenly general is also Teng Snake. The illness is located in the head: both Si and Teng Snake belong to the fire element. Fire has an upward nature, and strong fire leads to shortness of breath and difficulty in breathing. When the fire element declines, it causes red eyes, mouth sores, and headaches. When the upper and lower elements overlap and the energy is strong, it leads to disasters in the throat. This is called double gods, meaning the heavenly general and the god it rides upon belong to the same category. Yuanwu is riding on Dengming in the branch of Hai, leading to tearing eyes: both belong to the water element. Water has a downward nature, and strong water leads to diseases in the lower abdomen. When the water element declines, it flows upward, causing diseases in the head and eyes. When the upper and lower elements overlap and the energy is strong, it definitely causes heart pain.
The Tian Kong is located on Xu, causing difficulty in movement: Tian Kong and Xu both belong to Earth, and Earth can overcome the kidney. When Earth is strong, it causes pain in the waist and legs, and if severe, it may even lead to pain in the bone marrow. Gou Chen falls on Tiangang (Chen), which indicates illness of the throat: both belong to Earth, and their strength overcomes the Day Stem, leading to the disaster of choking. Chuansong (Shen) on Shen meets White Tiger, causing worry about the limbs and body: when the metal energy is strong, it leads to bleeding disorders; when the metal energy is weak, it causes skin diseases and hemorrhoids; when the metal energy is strong, it results in broken bones and injuries to the tendons.
Gongcao belongs to the寅 branch and pairs with the Azure Dragon, causing illness in the hips, with the liver, gallbladder, and splestomach in conflict: both Gongcao and the Azure Dragon belong to wood, which in the human body corresponds to the liver and gallbladder. When wood is strong, it tends to produce wind diseases; when wood is weak, it damages the spleen and stomach, mostly due to irregular eating habits. The卯 branch pairs with Liu He, causing illness in the chest and ribs, and damaging the skin for women: the卯 branch governs bones and flesh, and it is said to contain the Heart mansion, hence the reference to the ribs. When wood is strong, men suffer from chest and rib diseases, while women are more prone to wind disorders.
Tai Yin is on top of Congkui in You, indicating intestinal pain and lung disorders: when the metal energy declines, the kidney suffers pain; when the metal energy is strong, coughing persists. Zi is the initiating transmission and also occupies the position of Heavenly Empress, so the illness affects the root of a man: Zi is the beginning of all things, leading the ten heavenly stems and twelve earthly branches, hence referring to a man. Water in the human body corresponds to the kidney. If a woman's water energy is cut off, her illness will be difficult to stabilize.
Tai Chang and Xiaoji are not in the same position, making it difficult to resolve the symptoms of vomiting and choking: both Tai Chang and Wei are associated with wine and food. When the qi is strong, it leads to vomiting and choking; when the qi is weak, it causes weight loss and yellowing and swelling of the face. During the time of weak qi, men suffer from heart pain, while women experience shortness of breath and the development of sores.
Chapter on the Direction for Seeking Medical Treatment
For a man, use the Tiangang (Chen) and for a woman, use the Hekui (Xu). Add these to the year of birth to reveal the heavenly mechanism. A man should go to the direction indicated by Gongcao (Yin) to obtain medicine, while a woman should go to the direction of Chuansong (Shen) to see a doctor. Whether to use acupuncture or take pills and powders depends on the correspondence between the Five Phases and the five internal organs, which the physician should determine. The specific method is: for a man, place Chen on the year of birth; for a woman, place Xu on the year of birth. A man should seek medical treatment in the direction indicated by the Heaven Plate's Gongcao, while a woman should seek medical treatment in the direction under Chuansong.
The heavenly physician is present at亥, which is suitable for taking decoctions; when present at辰, 戌, 丑, or 未, which are the four墓 positions, it is suitable for taking pills; when present at a position belonging to wood, there must be some ghostly disturbances; when present at a position belonging to fire, moxibustion is suitable; when present at a position belonging to metal, acupuncture is suitable; the rest follow the same pattern. If the heavenly physician overcomes the day stem, it indicates that the doctor's prescription is inappropriate; if the day stem overcomes the heavenly physician, it indicates that the doctor's skill is not refined. As for the heavenly physician on duty during the month, the second position before the month builder is the heavenly physician; the second position before the day's earthly branch is the heavenly physician on duty for that day; the position that is opposite to it is the earth physician.
Secrets of the Mirror of the Soul: A Collection
Supreme Sovereign of the Year
If the Tai Sui or the month builder is used as the useful god and is accompanied by the Heavenly Nobleman, the matter being consulted certainly involves the king. If Tai Sui acts as the Nobleman and the month builder is the initiating transmission, and what it rides upon is a favorable deity, then it is certainly an affair carried out by royal command and will succeed. If it rides upon an evil general, meets death qi and suffers punishment, then it must certainly be a case reported to the imperial court for punishment. The deity following Tai Sui appears in the first transmission, and the heavenly general on the year pillar is also favorable. If a person in custody receives this divination, it is exactly a time of pardon. Tai Sui represents the king, and the Heavenly Empress represents the queen. If the year pillar and day branch are used as the basis for divination, then a person in prison will certainly encounter royal mercy and be released from misfortune.
The sovereign star falls into the heavenly net, and within it there are shackles and chains; if one commits a crime against the sovereign star and also encounters the White Tiger, it indicates continuous funerals. The heavenly stem before the day stem is the heavenly net evil spirit; if the sovereign star enters the heavenly net and carries punishment and harm, it indicates being shackled and chained. If the useful god is exactly the crime against the sovereign star and also meets death qi, and further harms the day stem and day branch, it indicates continuous deaths in the family. If the sovereign star's punishment falls on the current day, or if the month builder punishes the day branch, then good fortune leaves and misfortune arrives, leading to calamity. For example, if an ox year meets a Xinsi day and takes the ox as the initiating transmission, this is an example of the sovereign star's punishment being applied to the current day; another example is when a snake day occurs in the first lunar month and takes the tiger as the initiating transmission, with the tiger punishing the snake, which is exactly the punishment between the month builder's hour and the day.
The useful god being harmed by the annual break leads to loss or escape of people or property; if it is harmed by the monthly punishment, the household will not have peace. If the useful god is harmed by the annual break and is also accompanied by Tian Kong and Black Tortoise, it indicates loss of people or property. There are four types of annual breaks. If the useful god is harmed by the monthly break and coincides withInauspicious General such as White Tiger and Teng Snake which are weak, the head of the household will be uneasy. The example of monthly punishment is when寅 harms巳 and巳 harms申. The method of calculating annual punishment is the same.
