The Earthly Branch Xu belongs to the Earth deity. After the Vernal Equinox, the sun moves to the second position of Jiaolou, so Xu is the "Month General" for the second month. Hekui refers to Tiankui, which is the first star of the Big Dipper. This star is directly positioned over Xu, hence its name. In the second month of Jianmao, all things sprout their roots, and similar things gather together. The character "Kui" signifies gathering.

The deity Hekui was once an official in a prison in ancient times. The heavenly stem Xin is said to be located in the position of Xu, and the burial place of fire is also in Xu, so Xu is the original home of Tian Kong. It is paired with the musical note Shang, has a number of five, and its taste is sweet. It corresponds to the mansions of Kuixu and Loushu, and its associated animals are wolf, dog, and jackal. Its twelve palaces belong to the House of Aries, its territory corresponds to the state of Lu, and it belongs to the region of Xu. Its direction is northwest.

The hexagram Wu governs matters of deceit, official positions, and the escape of servants. If it initiates transmission, it signifies revisiting old matters or repeating past statements. It also indicates wasteful expenditure, loss of money or belongings, and leading a group of people.

The symbolic representation of Xu (戌) is derived by analogy: in the heavens, it is the star of the Handle of the Dipper, also the Heavenly Net, Ji Du, and the general of war. It is also considered an evil spirit (when riding the Black Tortoise, it corresponds). On earth, it represents officials who supervise and inspect (when Xu is added to the Month Builder, it corresponds), the chief of a district (when added to the Year Stem, it corresponds), officials in charge (when riding the Vermilion Bird and added to the Day Stem and Day Branch, it corresponds), officials who enforce justice, good people, elders, monks and Taoists, hunters, children, servants, and evil butchers and robbers (when riding the White Tiger and overcoming the Day Branch, it corresponds). It also represents soldiers (when Xu is added to Shen or Shen is added to Xu, it corresponds), the maternal uncle, the mother-in-law, and the younger sister. It also represents poor beggars (when riding the Black Tortoise and Tian Kong, it corresponds).

On the human body,戌 represents the life gate, bladder, and legs (戌 in the person's annual destiny indicates foot ailments). On the ground, it signifies city walls, temples, hills, ridges, prisons (especially when accompanied by Gou Chen), kilns and ironworks (especially when accompanied by Teng Snake and responding to the hours of巳 and午), empty rooms, servants' quarters, earthen objects, and tombs (especially when accompanied by Bai Hu and initiating transmission). On objects, it represents ceremonial robes (especially when accompanied by Zhu Què), seals, shoes, weapons, shackles and prison equipment (especially when accompanied by Xuan Wu and positioned at the execution place), swords, bells on city walls, iron hoes, shovels, locks and keys, mortars, tiles, stones (especially when accompanied by Gou Chen and responding to the hours of申 and酉), and prayer beads. In terms of products, it represents the five grains and silk and hemp in the fields.

The surname associated with Xu include Wei, Wang, Lu, Xu, Lou, and Ni. Generally, surnames containing the character for earth or the character for foot are under the jurisdiction of Xu. This is because Xu itself represents the earth deity, and in the human body, it governs the legs and feet, hence the symbolic association from these two aspects.

The outline of the Hekui (River魁) is: riding on Tai Chang (太常) indicates official seals and titles; riding on Zhu Que (朱雀) indicates officials and legal matters; riding on Qing Long (青龙) indicates high official positions. On Ren and Gui days, riding on Bai Hu (白虎) indicates the formation of high mounds and tombs. Riding on Gou Chen (勾陈) indicates gathering crowds. Riding on Liu He (六合) indicates a virtuous connection. Riding on Xuan Wu (玄武) indicates servants. Riding on Tai Yin (太阴) indicates maidservants and also relates to elders. Riding on Tian Hou (天后) benefits gentlemen. Riding on Teng Snake (螣蛇) and encountering the Month Aversion (月厌) indicates strange occurrences involving dogs, jackals, and wolves. Riding on Tai Yin brings general joy and relates to marriage matters.

Hekui governs the seal, and Tai Chang governs the sash, so when Hekui is occupied by Tai Chang, it becomes seal and sash, indicating that an official position is secured. The Vermilion Bird is the deity of documents, and Xu is the resting place of fire, so the Vermilion Bird is buried in Xu. Whenever there is a legal case, the officials in charge are those clerks. The Azure Dragon is the official in charge of the capital, and Hekui governs gathering people. Whenever discussing official positions, it necessarily involves the authority to command subordinates. Hekui is originally a malevolent deity, and the White Tiger is also a malevolent general. If on a Ren or Gui day, the Nobleman moves in reverse, and Hekui is occupied by the White Tiger to attack the day stem, it is called the "Liu Tu Evil Spirit." If a sick person encounters this, death is certain.

Gou Chen is the planet Saturn, and Hekui governs gatherings. When this deity and general appear together in the same position, it indicates an assembly of people. The卯 (Mao) and戌 (Xu) branches form a harmonious relationship, and since Xu is in the fifth position before the day branch, it is called "De He" (virtuous harmony). "Xuan Wu" represents a servant, and "Tai Yin" represents a maid. If these two generals appear on Xu, it is called "Yin Kong Tong Wei" (dark emptiness in the same position), indicating that servants and maids may have dishonest intentions, either fleeing or stealing. On six days when the branch is Bing (丙), the Heavenly Empress appears on Xu. The Xin metal in Xu is the official star of Bing fire, which benefits the virtuous, so it is referred to as the elder, suitable for meeting a superior.

The Teng Snake is present on the戌 day, indicating disturbances caused by dogs, jackals, and wolves. In spring, there are three distinctions: the day of辰,戌, 丑, or 未 is considered the Heavenly Dog煞, the戌 day is the Month Aversion煞, and the day of甲 or乙 with寅 or卯 is the Heavenly Joy. These three must be clearly distinguished. Additionally, on the days of戊, 己, and辰,戌, 丑, or 未, if the戌 day is occupied by the Teng Snake, it often indicates strange occurrences. However, if it occurs on the days of甲 or乙 with寅 or卯, and the戌 day is accompanied by auspicious generals, it instead signifies joyous events such as marriage and childbirth.

Congkui in You metal

The酉 (You) belongs to the metal element. After the Grain Rain solar term, the sun reaches the second position of the Big Beam, so You is the "Month General" of the third month. Congkui refers to the second star of the Big Dipper's handle, as this star is directly positioned at You, hence its name. Another meaning is that in the third month, the branches of plants grow outward from their roots, "from" signifies growing out from the root.

Congkui is a deity with a proper appearance and a yellowish-white complexion. In ancient times, he was a female shaman. The hour of You belongs to Xin metal's proper place of honor, so it does not accept other heavenly stems to "Lodging Palace". It is the native house of Tai Yin. Its five tones are Yu, its number is six, its taste is Xin, and it corresponds to the mansion of the Stomach, the Hairy Head mansion, and the Net mansion. Its birds are wild chickens and domestic chickens. Its twelve palaces belong to the Bull Palace. Its territory corresponds to the State of Zhao and the Ji State. Its zodiac sign is the chicken, and its direction is due west.

The酉 (You) branch governs secret and private matters, gatherings that disperse again, and matters of granting rewards. It also oversees metal blades, servants and attendants, and messages and communications.酉 is originally associated with metal, hence it governs blades; it is also the native branch of Tai Yin, hence it governs private affairs and female attendants.

The symbolic associations of酉 are as follows: In the heavens, it represents the literary star and continuous rain (when酉 is combined with子 at the first hour), frost (when combined with戌 at the ninth hour), snow (when combined with丑 and午 at the hour of酉), the sea (when combined with巳 at the fourth hour), and the river (when combined with子 at the first hour). In terms of places, it signifies private doors. In terms of people, it represents an imperial censor, close relatives, a nobleman of the阴 type, and women (if旺气 is present, it indicates a young woman). It also represents women of the maternal aunt's generation (when乘天空 and the energy is declining). It also represents concubines and servants (when乘六合 or青龙; if乘太阴 and combined with the day stem and branch, it indicates taking a concubine as a wife). It also represents female artisans, servants, wine sellers, and young slaves (when乘天空). It also represents nuns (when乘六合 and combined with寅 or申 at the hour). It also represents female entertainers (when乘太常 and combined with卯 or未 at the hour). It also represents old servants (when combined with子 or丑 at the hour).

The酉 (You) branch governs official rank andofficial stipend, military soldiers on the frontier (when accompanied by the White Tiger and responding at the first hours of寅, 申, 巳, and 亥), mourning for parents (when accompanied by the White Tiger, especially on甲 or 乙 days, indicating mourning at the gate), and marital discord. On the human body, it corresponds to the skin, mouth, ears, eyes, nails, bones, blood and essence, the small intestine, and lips and tongue. In terms of illness, it relates to tuberculosis, eye diseases (when accompanied by the Teng Snake or Vermilion Bird), red eye (when 丙 or 丁 is added to酉), and cuts (when added to 辰, 戌, 丑, or 未 and the season causes a conflict with the person's destiny). On the ground, it corresponds to white pagodas, alleys and small roads, temples, and granaries.

On objects, You represents stone tablets, gold and silver, jewelry, pearls, plates and mirrors, copper and lead (which respond to Tai Chang at the寅 hour), iron and stone, leather and felt. In terms of food, it represents wine and liquor, vegetables, and spicy items such as ginger and garlic, because the taste of You is fundamentally辛.

The surname associated with You is Zhao, Jin, Yue, Shi, and Liu (responding when Mao and You combine), Min (responding when Mao and You combine and multiply Liu He), Zheng (responding when Nobleman is involved), Cheng, and Lv (both requiring the Sun to be present). Generally, surnames with a single person radical or a metal radical are under the jurisdiction of You—since You belongs to metal, it takes the metal radical; its character shape also resembles a person standing upright, hence it takes the person radical.

The outline for the "Congkui" (From魁) is: riding on "Qinglong" (Azure Dragon) and "Baihu" (White Tiger) with prosperous and strong energy, it indicates gold and jade; riding on Qinglong and Baihu with trapped and dying energy, it indicates small knives. On Bing and Ding days, riding on "Taiyin" (Tai Yin) indicates money. Riding on "Tiankong" (Heavenly Void) indicates servants, riding on Taiyin indicates concubines. Riding on "Tianhou" (Heavenly Empress) and "Liuhe" (Six Harmonies) indicates internal and external private relations. Riding on "Xuanwu" (Black Tortoise) indicates matters related to water. Riding on "Taichang" (Great Constancy) indicates wheat. Riding on Tianhou with a hidden chant indicates the water of the nine rivers. Riding on "Guiren" (Nobleman) with prosperous and strong energy indicates rewards. Riding on "Zhuque" (Vermilion Bird) indicates chickens and birds, riding on "Tengshe" (Teng Snake) indicates strange birds. Riding on "Gouchen" (Gou Chen) indicates dispersion, without calculation of drawbacks.

The White Tiger is over the Congkui (You) and when its energy is prosperous and strong, it signifies gold and jade; when its energy is weak or dead, it signifies weapons and blades. The Azure Dragon over You and when its energy is prosperous and strong also signifies gold and jade; if the Azure Dragon initiates the transmission, then metal and wood mutually control each other, and matters will have a beginning and an end. On the six days of Xin, Tai Yin governs, and when its energy is prosperous and strong, it signifies gold and jade; when its energy is weak or dead, it signifies weapons, blades, and slaughter. On the days of Bing and Ding, Tai Yin is added over You, which signifies money, because the metal of You cannot take the shape of coins without fire to forge it; however, on the days of Jia, Wu, and Geng, even if Tai Yin is over You, it does not signify money.

On the day of Jia in spring, Tai Yin is in a state of confinement, indicating affairs concerning servants and concubines engaging in private relations; on the day of Wu, Tai Yin receives a favorable influence, with metal and earth mutually generating, leading to the convergence of two Yin energies, which signifies matters related to marriage; on the day of Geng, Tai Yin is at its peak, indicating matters concerning gold and silver wealth. "Tian Kong" refers to servants, and "Congkui" refers to maids, as their positions are adjacent, so together they are commonly referred to as servants and maids. Regarding private relations, they are governed by "Liu He," which is the gate of private matters. "Mao" and "You" are placed side by side, referred to as the internal and external private aspects of Yin. "You" is also called "Jiu Jiang," "Xuan Wu" is the general of water, and metal generates water, so the matter occurs by the water. If it occurs on six days of Ji, earth will overcome "Xuan Wu" water, causing the water to dry up.

"Tai Chang" governs wheat. On days of Ren and Gui, the metal and water elements generate each other, leading to wheat sprouts emerging and flourishing; however, on days of Jia, Wu, and Geng, the situation differs: on Jia day, Tai Chang joins You, causing damage to the wheat before it matures, as the metal of You overcomes the wood of Jia; on Wu day, the metal and earth elements generate each other, resulting in strong and robust wheat that both sprouts and bears grain; on Geng day, the metal energy is overly rigid, leading to firm but small grains. "Heavenly Empress" joining You represents water from the deep source, hence also called Jiujiu. "Nobleman" joining You indicates prosperity and reward when strong and flourishing, but if in a state of captivity or death, it signifies the nobleman's anger and blame, and in legal matters, it portends worry and the threat of imprisonment.

The Vermilion Bird combined with You indicates chickens and flying birds; if it also overcomes the day stem, it signifies imprisonment, legal disputes, and official documents. The Teng Snake combined with You indicates strange birds during the day and strange chickens at night; if the divination is done on one of the six Ji days in the second month, the Month Aversion falls exactly on You, making it even more significant. The Gou Chen combined with You indicates dispersion: on Jia day, the Azure Dragon is in charge and overcomes Gou Chen, while the son of Gou Chen is You metal, which in turn overcomes Jia wood. This mutual confrontation leads to a conflict and dispersion, so there is no longer any aversion. On Wu day and Geng day, the divine generals are in harmony and do not clash, also indicating dispersion. On Ren day and Gui day, the day stem is overcome by Gou Chen, but it is saved by the son of Gou Chen, which is You metal, coming to generate and support. This is called "dispersion without favor."

Chuansong Shen

The metal element is associated with the hour of Shen. After the Grain Full season, the sun moves to the position of Shicheng, so Shen is the "Month General" for the fourth month. It is called Chuansong because in the fourth month, all things have reached their peak of flourishing, the yang energy is at its height and about to decline, while a thread of yin energy is just beginning to emerge. This is precisely the time when yin energy is passed on and yang energy is sent off.

The deity known as Chuansong (Shen) has the appearance of a short neck, round eyes, some facial hair, and a tall figure. In ancient times, this deity was a messenger traveling along roads. The heavenly stem Geng is associated with the Lodging Palace (Ji Gong) located on the branch Shen. Water is also in its state of growth on Shen, so Shen is the native palace of the White Tiger. The five tones associated with this deity are Zheng, the number is seven, and the taste is辛 (pungent). It corresponds to the Turtle Beak mansion (Zi Xu) and the Three Stars mansion (Can Xu). The animals associated are monkeys, apes, and macaques. The twelve palaces belong to the Yin and Yang palace. The territory it governs is over the state of Jin and Yizhou. Its zodiac sign is the monkey, and its direction is the southwest.

The influence of the branch Shen is associated with travel, illness, and messages. Its symbolic associations include: in the heavens, it represents the money star, the heavenly ghost, and the heavenly physician. In terms of people, it represents the chief judicial officer (responsible for criminal cases), the general (when Shen is the first in the Triple Harmony Formation), messengers, officials, common people, filial sons, soldiers on campaign (if combined with Zi or Wu, it indicates soldiers fleeing), station guards, hunters (when combined with the White Tiger), silversmiths, blacksmiths, and maternal uncles, monks (when combined with the Azure Dragon and in the first of the four seasons), merchants, and physicians (when combined with the Liu He formation). In terms of the body, it corresponds to the lungs, gallbladder, large intestine, bones, and voice. In terms of events, it relates to illness, corpses, funerals and mourning, childbirth and nursing, water-related disasters (when Shen is combined with Hai and overcomes the day stem), enemies and attacks (when combined with Gou Chen), gifts and offerings, loss and leakage (when combined with Xuan Wu and in the hours of Zi or Hai), and licentiousness (on days of Ren or Gui).

On the earth, Shen represents temples, monasteries, city walls and buildings, roads, ponds and lakes, tombs, ancestral graves, and funeral caskets. In terms of objects, it signifies silk and cloth, flax and down, scriptures and documents, feathers, medicinal herbs, weapons (when Shen is combined with the position of punishment), and the grinding mill for processing grain. In terms of produce, it represents barley.

The surname groups associated with Shen include Yuan, Guo, Shen, Jin, Hou, Han, and Deng. Generally, surnames with the radical for metal or those with a radical resembling the bottom part of the character "走" (to walk) are under the jurisdiction of Shen. This is because Shen belongs to the metal element, hence the metal radical; also, Shen is the deity of travelers and roads, hence the radical representing movement.

The general principles of the "Chuansong" (Shen) divination are: riding on "White Tiger" indicates warfare with weapons; riding on "Tai Chang" indicates doctors or monks; on a Ji day, riding on "Gou Chen" and overcoming virtue indicates forming enmity or disputes; riding on "Azure Dragon" indicates roads; riding on "Nobleman" indicates taxation; riding on "Heavenly Empress" indicates lakes and ponds. Riding on "Tai Yin" when prosperous and strong indicates barley, but when in captivity or death indicates defending the city. Riding on "Teng Snake" indicates funerals; riding on "Tian Kong" indicates grinding mills; riding on "Liu He" indicates market transactions; riding on "Jie Sha" or "Black Tortoise" indicates robbery and plunder; riding on "Vermilion Bird" indicates hunters.

The White Tiger added to the hour of Shen indicates strife and weapons. There are five reasons for this. On a Jia day, the Azure Dragon is in charge, and the White Tiger causes injury due to a dispute over wealth; if the death star is also present, the effect is especially severe, which is a case of metal and wood conflicting, leading to bloodshed. On a Wu day, the Gou Chen is in charge, and metal and earth support each other rather than clash, so even if evil stars are present, it is not very凶. On a Geng day, the White Tiger itself is in charge, and the White Tiger holds virtue on that day; although weapons are involved, there is no harm to people, and it is actually favorable for meeting important officials, representing a mission to punish wrongdoing. On a Ren day, the Heavenly Empress is in charge, indicating mutual harm due to adultery; on a Gui day, the Black Tortoise is in charge, indicating bandits causing injury. These two situations are not the worst.

Chuansong is multiplied by Tai Chang, indicating doctors and monks. On six Ji days, Gou Chen is located on Chuansong (Shen), which signifies disputes and conflicts. This is because the virtue of Si is in Jia, and Gou Chen is on Shen, which is distant and thus exerts a remote influence, injuring this virtue, thereby causing enmity and disputes.

There are five layers regarding the interpretation of roads. On the days of Jia, Wu, and Geng, the position of Shen is marked as 'Azure Dragon,' but each signifies different matters: On Jia day, the road signifies wealth coming from this path, or news and goods from afar; on Wu day, the road signifies servants and official documents arriving through this path; on Geng day, the road signifies illness and mourning affairs coming through this path. If on Ren day the trinity of Shen-Zi-Chen water is formed, it indicates disorder among women, with matters being exposed on the road. On Gui day, it is most inauspicious to go out, as there will be loss or misfortune on the road.

The term "Nobleman" placed on the position of Shen indicates matters related to farmland taxes, because Shen is the place where water begins to grow, and "Nobleman" belongs to earth, which from a distance controls this water, thus indicating the image of levying taxes. Water is in its growth phase at Shen and in its prosperity phase at Zi. When "Heavenly Empress" is placed on Shen, it signifies lakes and ponds: on a Jia day it indicates a pond, on a Wu day it indicates a lake; however, on a Bing or Ding day, it is not considered as lakes or ponds, called "the sun obscured by clouds," implying confusion and lack of clarity in affairs, and one should also be cautious of someone secretly watching and plotting.

On six days with the stem Xin, when the Tai Yin is joined with the hour Shen, if the energy is prosperous and strong, it indicates a good harvest of barley; if the energy is in decline or dead, it suggests a military campaign of defending the city. The Teng Snake indicates mourning: on the day of Jia, it refers to the mourning of officials, wealthy families, or the powerful; on the day of Wu, it refers to the death of servants or slaves, or the death due to illness from official duties; on the day of Geng, it refers to death without illness but due to weakness and emaciation; on the day of Bing, it refers to the death of officials or those involved in the metal industry. As for the grinding mill, it is governed by Tian Kong. Liu He indicates trade and commerce: on the days of Ren and Gui, it refers to transactions made by women or marriage arrangements; on the days of Bing and Ding, it refers to transactions made by men, including the activities of brokers and official purchases. The Vermilion Bird indicates hunting or ongoing incidents of robbery and attack, and this item is also said to be under the jurisdiction of the Black Tortoise.

Xiaoji (Wei) has not yet arrived.

The Earthly Branch 未 belongs to the Earth element. After the Summer Solstice, the sun moves to the position of the Star鹑首, so 未 is the "Month General" for the fifth month. It is called Xiaoji (Small Good Fortune) because after the Summer Solstice, yin begins to grow, which aligns with the "Great Going and Small Coming" concept in the Zhou Changes (I Ching) Book of Changes, the卦否. The gradual growth of yin's softness is favorable for the "small" aspect, hence the name Xiaoji. Another meaning is that at this point, all things have already begun to show signs of accomplishment, thus taking the meaning of a small achievement.

Xiaoji is the deity known as Feng Bo, who in ancient times was a药师, someone who gathered and prepared herbs. The heavenly stem Ding is located in the position of Wei, which is the "Lodging Palace." The "Storage" of wood is also in Wei, so Wei is the native place of Tai Chang. The five tones associated with it are Zheng, the number is eight, the taste is sweet, and it corresponds to the Well Mansion and Ghost Mansion. The animals associated are An, sheep, and eagle. The twelve palaces belong to the Cancer Palace, the territory corresponds to the state of Qin and Yongzhou, the zodiac sign is sheep, and the direction is southwest.

The affairs under the influence of 未 are related to food and drink, marriage, and ancestral worship. Its symbolic associations include: in the heavens, it represents the star of wine and the deity of the heavenly ear (when combined with the hours of巳 and 午), the wind deity and ghosts and spirits (one interpretation says it refers to the household ancestors). In terms of people, it represents Tai Chang, who is the guardian, parents, the elderly, a stepfather (when combined with the temporary deity), a stepmother (when 亥 is combined with 酉 hours), a maternal aunt, a sister-in-law, an aunt, a younger sister, a matchmaker, a wet nurse, a widow, a Taoist priest, a winemaker, and a hat maker. In terms of events, it relates to inviting or summoning people (when it is combined with 青龙 and compared with the day stem), celebrations, banquets, parting (when it meets the fire deity in the person's age), and also drought, extreme heat, and locust plagues (when combined with 朱雀 and the hours of 亥 and 子). In terms of the body, it relates to diseases of the liver and the spine and bones. In terms of the land, it represents courtyards, walls, gardens (when combined with the hour of 辰), forests (when combined with the hour of 卯), earthen objects, wells, kilns, cemeteries (when on 甲 or 乙 days and the surname is of the horn tone), tea houses, taverns, and places for religious festivals. In terms of objects, it represents seafood, plates and bowls, crowns and clothing, seals, musical instruments, medicine, seed covers in fields, mulberry trees, wine vessels, and hemp (when combined with 青龙 and 天后 in the hours of 寅 and 卯).

The surname governed by 未 includes Zhu, Qin, Gao, Zhang, Yang, Du, Jing, Wei, and Yang. Generally, surnames containing the character 羊 (sheep) or with a 土 (earth) radical are under the jurisdiction of 未. This is because 未 corresponds to the sheep in the zodiac and belongs to the Earth element in the Five Phases, so these associations are derived from these two aspects.

The guideline for Xiao Ji is: riding on 'Tai Yin' indicates the maternal aunt or mother's sister; riding on 'Qing Long' indicates marriage ceremonies; riding on 'Tai Chang' indicates offerings of sheep and wine, worship and prayers to deities, and if 'Xuan Wu' and 'Gui Ren' are also present, it corresponds to this pattern. Riding on 'Teng Snake' with the 'Sang Che' evil sign indicates white mourning clothes. On Ren and Gui days, riding on 'Zhu Que' and 'Gou Chen' indicates disputes. Riding on 'Tian Hou' indicates the mother-in-law and mother. Riding on 'Tian Kong' indicates wells and springs, and also the 'Tian Er' evil sign; in the fourth lunar month, it is suitable for capturing and investigating. On Yi day, riding on 'Bai Hu' indicates tombs; on Xin and Ji days, riding on 'Bai Hu' indicates the wind god, and signifies strong winds.

The "Tai Yin" aspect over Wei indicates matters concerning maternal aunts, paternal aunts, or younger sisters. The "Qing Long" aspect over Wei relates to matters of marriage ceremonies. "Tai Chang" is the deity in charge of grain, and on days of Jia and Yi, there is also a earth element, which overcomes water. Grain, after being cultivated, becomes wine, so this aspect relates to wine. On days of Bing and Ding, the "Guiren" (Nobleman) is on Hai, forming the "Tian Zhu Sha" (Heavenly Pig Harm), and Wei forms the "Tian Yang Sha" (Heavenly Sheep Harm). Since Hai, Mao, and Wei form a triple harmony, this aspect relates to matters involving pigs and sheep. When "Guiren" is on Wei and "Xuan Wu" (Black Tortoise) is on Hai, they also form a triple harmony, relating to rituals and prayers to deities.

This is because the Black Tortoise is the general of the Big Dipper, in charge of matters related to ghosts and demons, but it is not allowed to be in the positions of Chou and Wei. Chou and Wei are the positions of the Nobleman, so the general being there would have no place, just like a gentleman does not quarrel with a petty person, hence only mentioning worship and prayer but not ghosts and demons. The term "white head" refers to mourning clothes; "Teng Snake" is also the ghost carriage and soul evil, when these three things occur together, it certainly indicates mourning clothes will be upon oneself. "Gou Chen" signifies disputes, meaning a superior general is present in a flourishing area. If the divination is done on a Ren or Gui day, there will certainly be disputes.

The Vermilion Bird governs lawsuits and documents. The Heavenly Empress belongs to water, which generates wood, and wood's burial place is in Wei, so it governs the maternal grandmother and mother. The Tian Kong governs wells and springs; if accompanied byInauspicious Sha (malevolent stars), it indicates something strange happening in the well or the well wall collapsing. In the fourth month, Tian Kong also acts as Tian Er Sha (Heavenly Ear Star), and whenever capturing a suspect encounters it, definite information will be obtained (Tian Er Sha starts in the first month at Xu and proceeds through the seasons of Chen, Xu, Chou, and Wei). On wood days when predicting illness, the White Tiger at Wei indicates the grave evil. On six Yi days, the White Tiger at Wei also indicates Feng Shi (Wind General), which signifies a strong wind.
